Tbh I think the fast fashion conversation should involve poor ppl but not in any way in the form of shaming but more like: “you are being taken advantage of by large corporations that have women and children enslaved to make crappy clothes in excessive amounts that have literal lead that will damage ur body in serious ways that ur pressured to buy via influencers that form a parasocial relationship with you and don’t care about you to overconsume them in large amounts that won’t last and have to be thrown away at some point and all that ends up fucking the environment. Plus, the cycle of consumerism is damaging to ur finances to keep u in poverty and mental health of always wanting more but never satisfied.”
I am saying right now you don’t need to throw out fast fashion items you currently own, if they fall apart, they can be repurposed. I am also saying I’ve been guilty of shopping fast fashion but am also making a commitment to eliminate fast fashion purchases and mindset in my life. The root cause of these fast fashion corpos to keep doing what they do is purely based on you buying from them and you, the consumer in this capitalist world, have the power to change that. Obviously there’s little you can do to avoid big oil or buying things made with prison labor without serious direct action but the fashion industry is one that is by design meant to be maintained by mindless consumerism and overconsumption.
If you are poor, please do whatever within ur means to avoid fast fashion, whether it’s buying from thrift stores other than goodwill and just buying less clothes and focusing on more important things in ur life. A better tomorrow is still possible if you allow it.

crocheting is inherently punk bc it's been used as a form of protest (yarn bombing) and it helps cut down on fast fashion
pass it on

Altered a pair of sweatpants that no longer fit me in the waist and Im in love with how they came out. 😍
1. Cut off the waistband and then hemmed the edge and top of the pockets.
2. Sewed a second hem around the bottom edge of the hem just to make sure it was tacked down really well and wasnt going to bother me when it rubs against my skin.
3. Hand sewed a blanket stitch around the top with embroidery floss. I picked out a color that matched the yarn I planned on using.
4. Crocheted thru the top of the blanket stitch using some hand-dyed, hand spun bamboo yarn. (I just winged the pattern but it was something like, first row sc, two rows of dc, two rows of hdc, last row single crochet, and I started decreasing during the hdc rows.)
5. Threaded some elastic through the top row to use as a drawstring and hemmed the raw edge of the elastic.
6. Fashion!!

I wish they'd start letting autstic people design clothing and clothing related ads
I have never seen a commercial that has made me want to buy clothing
I would make it like this:
"Hey schnitt for brains,
Are you tired of your favorite 25 year old hoodie getting more and more faded with each wash, and those 12 year old cigarettes holes aren't gettint any smaller?
Me fucking too
Why don't short have more and better pockets?
No fucking clue
Take a stand with me to defeat fast fashion, buy a sewing kit and learn how to mend your own clothing like a FUCKING BOSS "

FROM THE FORBIDDEN SOUP IT HAS RISEN!!!
The things you can do when you have enough gumption and a free day never fail to surprise me. I said to myself it doesn’t have to be perfect and I got a really damn cool jacket.
Jacket: €2,50 at a flea market
Batik dye: free from a pantry
I also still have black dye. Might do something with that soon

I’d be a terrible celebrity. They’d be like “who are you wearing tonight?”
And I’d be like “i don’t remember I bought these clothes 10 years ago and I removed the tags because I have sensory issues.”

i only like money bc of how fun it is to count. i fully believe that we should revert back to just trading things of equal value, because it’s so much more warmhearted than cash. like ‘holy fuck that’s an amazing painting! here’s a vase that i handmade out of clay!’ but nowadays it’s ‘here is a mass produced top made from slave labour and fossil fuels. that will be 50 papers please, or 50 digital concepts’ WHAT?

To say "but they wouldn't be able to get an higher paying job" or "well the country is underdeveloped so it's normal" or even "they are doing a simple job, sewing isn't dangerous" when talking about how fast fashion ruined and is still ruining millions of people's life is insane.
"From an American or an European point of view we are surprised to see how those people make 2 dollars a day, but it's normal there" NO IT'S NOT.
The people there wash in unclean water, entire families of 6/7 people live in deranged houses that even if restored would be able to contain just two of them, they don't have good healthcare and their job certainly doesn't help help on that matter. They eat what they can provide which is NOT ENOUGH if you make 2 dollars a day!
Calling "accidents" things like the Rana Plaza collapse is even more insane. People that worked there already informed the factory owners of the bad conditions of their workplace, even the same day of the collapse.
Calling it an accident is also an insult to the 1134 people that lost their life while being crashed on by the building or suffocated by the absence of air. After 8 hours they were still finding corpses and also injured people, about 2500 people.
But why does this kind of things happen?
Because a shirt cost 5 dollars and there are a lot of people that desperately need a job. If a factory can't afford to produce a shirt for 5 dollars, be sure that another one will take that job. When the prices start to drop again a fast fashion brand needs to keep up with the competition. The factory, that will be payed less, needs to save money and eventually the owners will start caring less about the conditions of their workers and their workplace.
Rana Plaza was not the first or these events:
In 2012 the Alì Enterprises fire in Pakistan caused 289 deaths and the Dhaka factory caused 112 deaths the same year. To this day people are still suffering because of underpaid jobs and of dangerous workplaces. The danger that they have to experience also extends not only to the collapsing of the building, but to the chemicals in the air.
No human being should be living in those conditions and no human being should be able to blatantly ignore those people.
And this includes the people that keeps buying on shein and other sites like that one.
