As a UT-Austin grad, me cheering Texas A & M on is nearly the collegiate equivalent of high treason, but I’m totally here for them being “nope” on Rittenhouse. I’m from the Midwest (98% white/62% Trump/45K in the whole county) and watched about 5 minutes of his trial and was “he’s gonna beat the charges but he totally sounds like too many people I grew up around time to quit listening”.
These days I can legit be proud of my city and my county (we mostly elect locals with some kind of a clue and I love my US House Rep and consistently go blue for statewide/DC level), but my state is so gerrymandered that barring miracles I will probably never have a governor/lieutenant governor/Attorney General/US Senator I actually voted for. (I am legit at the point where I’m “well, George P. Bush is a Trump supporter and a Republican but a) bro doesn’t want to sue every school district that wants to teach critical race theory and b) didn’t spend what felt like the last decade under investigation for at least three major felonies, he might actually be an improvement as Attorney General over Ken Paxton who imo only got cleared because his own office did the clearance”. I would also rather have Will Hurd who at least had some clue about border stuff from his CIA time and was “abortion up to 20 weeks or maternal health” running my state. You know you’re fed up when you’re missing semi-moderate Republicans and vote bluebonnet blue every time.)
