I have a friend who works as a DJ at a karaoke bar. She had a jar for tips. I gave her $20, which I can easily afford because I get paid $35 an hour and I don't pay rent because I live in my childhood home which my grandmother already owns. She acted like it was a major act of generosity.
I've also occasionally given $20 to homeless people, and they also acted like it was a major act of generosity.
Meanwhile, if you're working multiple jobs for a low wage and struggling to pay your bills and you give $50 to your landlord every single day, they'll make you homeless when they decide that they want $55 a day and you can no longer afford it.
And that's because poor and working class people are expected to question whether they deserve every penny that they have. They feel guilty accepting a gift from someone who can easily afford it. Meanwhile, capitalists regularly receive much more, and all they care about is trying to increase it further. A gift to your friend that seems like a lot is peanuts compared to what people regularly give to capitalists.

i'm sorry.. what?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Municipal Court is resuming evictions as early as Monday, saying landlord tenant officers have now received training on use of force and de-escalation tactics.
landlord.. tenant.. officers?
"Though the sheriff has the power to serve evictions, the task is usually handled by a private force hired by a court-appointed attorney known as the landlord-tenant officer. These private security contractors — who are often armed — have long been a part of the local eviction system."
so landlords have their own private military? this is class warfare
This follows the court suspending all evictions in July after multiple tenants were shot during evictions over the past several months. In one incident in March, a plainclothes landlord tenant officer shot a woman in the head. In another incident in July, police said a woman was shot in the leg. A spokesperson for the court's Landlord and Tenant Office said evictions will now be conducted in teams of two officers who have all received Pennsylvania Constable training.
this is LITERALLY class warfare
The LTO is funded by service fees from landlords and not taxpayer money. Fees to landlords will increase from $145 to $350 to cover the additional staff, training and insurance costs.
and who the fuck do you think is going to end up ultimately paying those fees in the end? where do you think the landlords are going to get the money? you're just giving them an excuse to raise the rent. oh my god this country is a complete and total failed state.

just thinking about how new yorkers understand if a restaurant or whatever has been around for basically forever it's likely that their main reason for their longevity is because the person who owns the business also owns the building. if a place has good cheap food and makes money hand over fist and people love it, it can just disappear if the landlord decides to raise the rent. this affects all institutions whether their product is expensive or cheap, so even the fancy restaurants and expensive stores close frequently because they cant keep up with rent
so basically, landlords make nyc expensive to live in by rent and cost of food and goods and also just like, you know, shape the food culture by forcing well-liked places to close
this has been your daily reminder that landlords are worthless parasites

Being traumatized is not an excuse to traumatize others.
But something is seriously wrong with society if traumatizing others because you were traumatized is easily recognized as evil while traumatizing others because you can is respected.
Everyone hates the supervillain who has a tragic back story. But many of those same people worship the police officer who imprisons people because they're told to or the landlord who evicts people because it's profitable.

here is your reminder that landlords are appealing to the Supreme Court to make rent controlled apartments unconstitutional
New York City landlords are preparing an appeal to the Supreme Court after a federal appeals court rejected their effort to void the state’s rent-stabilization law. The Second Circuit Court of Appeals on Feb. 6 dismissed two challenges to the law, one led by two real-estate trade groups, the Community Housing Improvement Program and the Rent Stabilization Association, and the other by a group of individual landlords. A three-judge panel unanimously held that rent stabilization did not violate the Fifth Amendment’s “takings clause” that the government cannot take private property without compensating the owner. It also rejected the claim that the law violated the 14th Amendment’s substantive due-process clause because it did not have a rational basis.
New York’s rent-stabilization law protects 2.5 million renters, and a ruling against it would also endanger rent controls in other states
they want you to be homeless and they want to profit from it.
