As much as I enjoy "[Character] did nothing wrong" jokes, I really do enjoy the fact that the MXTX main characters and their love interests very much did some wrong things, actually. Like, yeah, some of their horrific crimes or even just mild wrongdoings are down to impossible circumstances and personal damage that was caused by someone else, but they all have agency and guilt and have to deal with the sort of interpersonal conflicts where no one is the winner. It is so, SO humanizing to have them be imperfect and rude and petty and selfish sometimes! They have hurt people unintentionally and intentionally! It makes their good qualities and efforts to improve shine all the brighter!
And also, I really love it as an aspect of queer romances specifically. If Wei Wuxian or Shen Qingqiu or Xie Lian had never done anything wrong in their lives, then the fact that they fall in love with men might carry an unintentional "look at these poor, innocent gay people who are being mistreated for no reason" message, which could carry the unintentional suggestion that queerness can be "earned" with good behavior. No, these characters have fucked up and have fucked up BADLY. There are such fascinating themes in these books about loving people who are seen as monsters or have done monstrous things, about having done unforgivable things yourself, about questioning what exactly is "sinful" and what you do with your life after your good reputation in "good society" has been utterly ruined.
This also brings up themes about "deserving". None of the characters are loved because they necessarily "deserve" to be loved, but because someone chose to love them. They get happy endings not because they "deserve" them - lots of characters in these stories "deserved" better and died anyway - but because they fought for them and were lucky. And I personally find that more interesting and touching than "[Character] did nothing wrong".
Keep the "[Character] did nothing wrong" jokes coming, though. They're often very funny. I especially love it when they're about characters who very obviously did many things wrong on purpose and aren't sorry about it in the slightest.

it’s kind of funny how i put off reading scum villain for so long after reading and consuming adaptations for mdzs and then reading tgcf. im not really a fan of the fan-service sex scenes in danmei because it just takes me out of the story emotionally, and i had a friend warn me that this was pretty much the case with svsss. but like….not so much? at least not the main story.
to back up, my first introduction to any danmei media was watching the untamed. i fucking LOVED the untamed. it consumed my every waking thought for like a solid month lol. it’s actually hard to describe in hindsight just how captivated i was by wei wuxian and lan wangji. and because i loved it so much, i chose to wait for the english translations to be officially released instead of finding unofficial versions online. in the meantime, i “read” tgcf (skimmed) for the first time (bad idea. i finally reread it though last month for real and damn. not quite relevant though). anyway, when i finally got to book 4 of mdzs, well i knew there was the infamous bathtub scene coming, but i underestimated how much this scene would just…cheapen the entire story for me. and this is my own fault, i know, for taking the untamed so much to heart and not being prepared to engage with such different characterizations of the two characters i adored so much. like nothing could’ve prepared me for the fact that lan zhan was actually a nymphomaniac who was determined to have rough sex with wwx every day…it just made the story feel less meaningful to me. it took away the gravity it developed for me.
so knowing how the sex scenes in mdzs affected me, of course i was skeptical of svsss based on what i’d heard. and well maybe it’s because svsss was so tonally different from mdzs and tgcf, and maybe because i knew something very graphic was coming, but shen qingqiu and luo binghe boning to save the world at the end of the main story actually made…perfect sense?? like it wasn’t even really supposed to be romantic at all and yet it felt 110% more earned and necessary than the scenes in mdzs. which was just really surprising to me.
anyway i don’t make this to start mdzs vs. svsss discourse but more so just to discuss my thoughts on the two as someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy gratuitous sex scenes and reads mostly for romance and plot (personal preference!). i still love mdzs and it’ll always have a special place in my heart, but watching the untamed and getting attached to that version of the story first definitely gave me unrealistic expectations for the source material.
im just rambling about this because im curious if anyone had a similar experience with how they read the mxtx novels? also in discussing the novels, im not giving tooooo much weight to the extras.
i’ll add another probably unpopular opinion that the lack of explicit content in tgcf (ik, due to censorship) actually worked in its favor in terms of emotional impact for me.
so yeah i just wanna know what people out there think of sex scenes in mxtx and their gratuitousness and how that affects the novel for you!!!

MXTX Side Characters Tournament Submissions
SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED
Rules
One character per submission. If you want to submit multiple characters, please do so in separate forms
No main couples (Bingqiu, Wangxian, or Hualian)
Preliminary polls may occur to decide whether or not to include other significant characters like Feng Xin, Mu Qing, or Liu Qingge. Minor but popular characters like Six Balls will be allowed.
Tag: #mxtx side characters tournament
Submission List below the cut (Dealer's Choice not included)
SVSSS
Zhuzhi-lang
Submission 1: Snake boy my beloved
Submission 2: I love him
Shang Qinghua / Airplane
Submission (2): He's a sidekick and he's so sidelined that despite creating the universe he's treated as an afterthought - doubly a side character! But also? So relateable. He would absolutely have been on tumblr in his first life, he gets so excited about his blorbo who treats him terribly (until they finally get a happy ending in the extras - also! he has to wait for the extras to get his happy ending! very side-character of him). He holds the fascinating position of being mostly irrelevant to the story and yet without him the themes would totally fail. He deserves a win on something for once, okay?
Sha Hualing
Submission: Her cringefail losergirl swag has captivated me
Mu Qingfang
Submission: Ppl tend to completely forget he has a mad scientist side (see Jinlan arc) and if he gets into the tournament I'll have a reason to bring it up.
Daoist nuns triplets
Submission: Authors of "Song of BingQiu" and the true culprits behind the ass wine extra. Stop crediting Liu Mingyan with their hard work!
Mobei-jun
Submission: He's a demon tsundere who doesn't realize his human boyfriend is scared and easily squishable. Got demoted from king to cabinet minister during a hostile takeover but is pretty chill about it. Huge boobs.
Six Balls
Submission: When he was born he weighed as much as six balls. Current ball number unknown.
Helen of Troy*
Submission: uhm she isn't a Side character ? but she is referenced heavily by the main character and the subtext. This is integral to the plot of SVSSS because the subtext is where it's actually at. If all you do is read the book you will have several misconceptions of the plot. Anyway Shen Yuan!Shen Qingqiu is a metaphorical Helen of Troy within the story AND HE FUCKING SAYS THIS HIMSELF INSUSJSKS
*will have to pass a preliminary poll to be included in the tournament (<-thinks it would be funny to put her in)
Ning Yingying
Submission: Her glow-up in the SVSSS timeline is real! Instead of becoming Luo Binghe's childhood sweetheart, she roasts him for referring to her too familiarly. Love this for her.
Gongyi Xiao
Submission: He is such a Good Person who didn't deserve his fate :(
Qin Wanyue
Submission: Scum Villain's wettest and most pathetic loser! Of course, she's so pathetic that she's constantly overshadowed by more bombastically pathetic characters, but I think she deserves her chance at recognition.
OG Luo Binghe’s Harem
Submission: Binghe's harem the whole collection all of them together an amalgamation of all the wives
Tianlang-jun
Submission: Incredible character who does it like him
TGCF
Quan Yizhen
Submission: He's a good boi and thinking about him makes me cry a lil'.
Yin Yu
Submission: The guy of all time. The most average god ever. Someone give him a break. His face is so average that Xie Lian thought it was fake
Ling Wen
Submission: Girlboss. Did nothing wrong
Bai Jing (Brocade Immortal)
Submission: no 1 ling wen simp (just like me fr)
MDZS
A-Qing
Propaganda: She's so smart. She tricked so many people into thinking she was blind for so long. Also, she was really kind and considerate. Like she didn't have to save all of those people from Xue Yang. Oh and she's an excellent judge of character and super brave. Really hope she wins, she's such a fun little genius girl
Su Minshan / Su She
Propaganda: Idk I just kinda like him
Submission 2: Look at him having his own life and grudges and friendships and priorities completely unrelated to the main characters! He was so right to curse Jin Zixun
Wen Ning
Submission: This poor guy dealt with so much shit in life, only to be killed, resurrected, and forced to deal with Wuxian's bullshit for years on end
Jiang Cheng
Submission 1: Extremely traumatized yet also somehow the most normal and functional by the end. Huge bitch but I (and at least one of the other characters) think he deserves to be even worse after everything he's been through
Submission 2: Simultaneously badass and the most cringefail man. Extremely funny and stylish but still manages to be very uncool. Cries a lot. Also he's lost a lot of tumblr polls—let's give him another shot! We definitely love him more than his dad did!
Submission 3: He's got mommy issues AND daddy issues. He loves his sister and his shige so much. He's traumatised and incredibly competent. He rebuilt his whole sect! He's an asshole (affectionate). He's purple! He's got the coolest weapon ever conceived. I'm so worried about his blood pressure basically all the time.
Wen Qing
Submission 1: Doctor, mad scientist, war criminal, protective big sister... she has the range!!
Submission 2: Wen Qing my beloved!! She did surgery on a grape. Mad genius for real. Also a loving sister with a very sharp tongue and maybe no sense of how far is too far. Can't wait for them to find her alive in a Koi Tower basement!
Submission 3: Justice for my girl!!!!
Submission 4: She's bitchy and pragmatic and cares deeply and did an unprecedented operation (experimental and nonconsensual!), what's not to love? Also she deserved better.
Jin Ling
Submission 1: He may be a brat, but he has a good heart and a friendly dog. He thinks he's the main character of a much less intense story which keeps almost getting him killed
Submission 2: Bestest boy in the whole world. He's got a dog! A helicopter uncle! His dad's sword! Yeah he can be a little brat but he's SIXTEEN okay (or thirteen, or whatever, MXTX HELP) and he's got an incredible capacity for forgiveness. He's so good!
Xue Yang
Submission 1: No propaganda submitted
Submission 2: It's not that he's evil. He lacks empathy and he goes into a disassociative state and commits atrocities.
Xiao Xingchen
No propaganda submitted
Song Lan
No propaganda submitted
Fairy (Jin Ling’s dog)
Submission: The cutest, smartest, and goodest doggo! She's the one who led WangXian to the Nie sword tomb to save Jin Ling! and led Jiang Cheng to Guanyin Temple to save Jin Ling! and led Lan cultivators to the temple to help Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen (and Jin Ling!)
Bichen
Submission: this sword has been through a lot…
Lan Xichen
Submission: Pay your respects to the captain of the WangXian ship! Those idiots would keep pining for another 13282627 years if it weren't for him!

Once more, why Jiang Cheng's homophobia is not funny, cute, or anything to do with a sibling dynamic:
Hi! So first of all I want to clarify that I’m not in any way saying jc isn’t a homophobe, because I mean, it’s pretty obvious. However back when I read the mxtx interview I read her answer as ‘wwx acted all of a sudden very different with lwj, to the point where it was jarring for jc who had not seen him act that way before.’ I do not think jc understood at all wwx’s affections towards lwj, and this did not think it was disgusting because he saw it as flirting. (½)
I find it weird that people use it as a 'proof’ that jc is homophobic when it’s not straightforwardly telling us it’s homophobia, and also since you know, the novel is right there and tells us far more clearly that jc is, in fact, a homophobe. (2/2)
So, here, I agree the interview isn’t a stated full explanation in itself and not to be used as evidence alone.
I think that at the time it was not fully homophobia on his part when he had first noticed Wei Wuxian’s attention for Lan Wangji in Cloud Recesses. Jiang Cheng had never understood Wei Wuxian’s penchant for wanting to be around Lan Wangji and I think that his surprise of Wei Wuxian flirting with a man (He himself talks about how he never thought it odd with Wei Wuxian flirting with women all the time) Lan Wangji was always the strange outlier for flirting. It steadily devolves into more overt homophobia as they get older.
Cloud Recesses when they’re 15,
Wei WuXian replied, “Yeah, I also thought that he should be praised for having the courage to come see me. He was probably told by his uncle to come check if I was kneeling properly.”
Jiang Cheng instinctively felt a foreboding sensation, “Were you kneeling properly?”
Wei WuXian, “I was kneeling properly. After he was some distance away, I found a stick and started to dig in the dirt. The pile beside your foot. There’s an ant hole there that I went through tons of trouble to find. When he turned his head, he saw that my shoulders were shaking, and he definitely thought that I was crying. He even came back to ask me. You really should have seen his expression as he saw the ant hole.”
“…” Jiang Cheng spoke, “You should get lost and go back to Yunmeng as soon as possible! I don’t think that he wants to see you ever again.”
The part that sticks out here is the fact that Jiang Cheng feels any sense of foreboding at all for a silly situation that Lan Wangji had walked away from seeing Wei Wuxian was actually okay. It’s the first seed of him continuing the line of thought that “He hates you”. He is already feeling strange about Wei Wuxian’s flirting and chooses to sort of project this hate into Lan Wangji for Wei Wuxian.
Lotus Pier summer after Cloud Recesses lessons:
I just thought of someone.”
Jiang Cheng, “Who?”
Wei WuXian, “Lan Zhan.”
Jiang Cheng, “Why would you think of him for no reason? Reminiscing what it felt like to copy sect rules?”
Wei WuXian spat out a seed, “It’s fun to think of him. You don’t even know—he’s just too amusing. I told him, ‘Your sect’s food is disgusting. I’d rather eat stir-fried watermelon peel than eat your food. If you have time, come have fun with us at Lotus Pier…'”
Before he even finished, Jiang Cheng slapped his watermelon off, “Are you mad? Inviting him to Lotus Pier—are you trying to torture yourself?”
Wei WuXian, “Why are you so upset? My watermelon almost flew away! I was just being polite. Of course he wouldn’t come. Have you ever heard of him go anywhere by himself to have fun?”
Jiang Cheng had on a stern expression, “Let’s make this clear. I don’t want him to come, anyhow. Don’t invite him.”
Wei WuXian, “I never knew you hated him so much?”
Jiang YanLi sat down between the two, “Who are you talking about? A friend you made in Gusu?”
Wei WuXian responded happily, “Yeah!”
Jiang Cheng, “What a shameless ‘friend’ you are. Go ask Lan WangJi and see if he wants you as one.”
Wei WuXian, “Fuck off. If he doesn’t want me, I’ll bother him to the point that he does.” He turned to Jiang YanLi, “Shijie, do you know Lan WangJi?”
Jiang YanLi, “I do. He’s that Lan-er-gongzi whom everyone describes as handsome and talented, isn’t he? Is he really that handsome?”
Wei WuXian, “He is!”
Jiang YanLi, “Compared to you?”
Wei WuXian thought about it for a moment, “Maybe just a bit more handsome than me.”
He formed a tiny bit of space between two fingers. Taking the plate away, Jiang YanLi smiled, “He must be truly very handsome, then. It’s a good thing you made a new friend. In the future, you two can visit each other in your free time.”
Hearing this, Jiang Cheng spat out his watermelon. Wei WuXian waved his hands, “Forget it, forget it. All that’s at his place is bad food and a whole lot of rules. I’m not going again.”
Jiang YanLi, “Then you can bring him here. This is a good opportunity. Why not invite your friend to come stay at Lotus Pier for sometime?”
Jiang Cheng, “Don’t listen to his nonsense, Jie. He’s super annoying in Gusu. Lan WangJi would never want to come home with him.”
Wei WuXian, “What do you mean!? He would.”
Jiang Cheng, “Wake up. Lan WangJi told you to get lost, didn’t you hear? You still remember that?”
Wei WuXian, “What do you know!? Even though he told me to get lost on the surface, I know for sure that he secretly wants to come play with me in Yunmeng—in fact, he would love to.”
Here Wei Wuxian is still in the belief that Lan Wangji does like him. Jiang Cheng of course isn’t amused by Jiang Yanli’s indulgence in Wei Wuxian’s daydreams. Wei Wuxian continues to, well, essentially pine innocently about Lan Wangji, his fellow disciples even encourage it leading to… Jiang Cheng sulking even further over the fact that Wei Wuxian is in fact pining over another boy. He puts two and two together as Wei Wuxian is flirting with the girls on shore later on and he talks of the things he will do with Lan Wangji as he visits. He talked of training with Lan Wangji in the same way he invited the girls to watch him train.
Phoenix Mountain Hunt:
Lan WangJi suddenly raised his hand, stopping a flower tossed over from behind him.
He looked back. Over at the side of the YunmengJiang Sect’s riding formation, which hadn’t departed yet, Jiang Cheng clicked his tongue impatiently, seated at the front. However, the person beside him sat on a horse with black, gleaming hair. His elbow was at the head of the horse as he looked to the side as though nothing happened, talking and laughing with two slender-bodied maidens.
Lan XiChen saw that Lan WangJi had drawn the reins and ceased to move forward, “WangJi, what happened?”
Lan WangJi, “Wei Ying.”
Wei WuXian finally turned around, face full of surprise, “What? HanGuang-Jun, did you call me? What’s up?”
Holding the flower, Lan WangJi seemed to be quite cold. His tone seemed cold as well, “Was it you?”
Wei WuXian immediately denied it, “No, it wasn’t.”
The maidens beside him spoke at once, “Don’t believe him. It was him!”
Wei WuXian, “How could you treat a good person like this? I’m getting angry!”
Giggling, the maidens pulled their reins and went to the formations of their own sects. Lan WangJi lowered the hand that he held the flower with and shook his head. Jiang Cheng spoke, “ZeWu-Jun, HanGuang-Jun, apologies. Don’t pay attention to him.”
Lan XiChen smiled, “That is fine. I will thank Young Master Wei’s kindness behind the flower in place of WangJi.”
When they slowly rode into the distance, carrying with them the clouds of petals and fragrance, Jiang Cheng glanced at the colourful sea of handkerchiefs waving on the watching towers before turning to Wei WuXian, “Why are you throwing out flowers along with the girls?”
Wei WuXian, “I think he looks nice. Can’t I throw a few as well?”
Jiang Cheng pointed his nose into the air, “How old are you? Who do you think you are, still playing tricks like that?”
Interestingly enough, this flower scene is similar to what had once occurred during the summer of Lotus Pier. This is after it had been established that Wei Wuxian thinks Lan Wangji now dislikes him morally. Yet he still reaches out to tease and flirt with him, leading Jiang Cheng to continue asking why well into their early 20’s is Wei Wuxian still doing this. It was excusable when they were younger but now this is inexcusable and troublesome for someone who is supposed to be his righthand acting on whims still and flirting with a man of reputation. Jiang Cheng actively had encouraged the rift between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji after the return from the Burial Mounds. He agreed very readily that Lan Wangji wanted to imprison Wei Wuxian instead of extending any help in regards to Wei Wuxian’s volatile disposition that went on for years after this altercation, convincing himself and Wei Wuxian of Lan Wangji’s supposed hate.
Wei WuXian was in such a state of distress that he couldn’t remember whether or not he called someone’s name at all. He only managed to pull himself together after Jiang Cheng commanded the dog to back away. After a moment of hesitation, he abruptly turned his head away. On the other side, Jiang Cheng left his seat. There was a whip attached beside his waist. With one hand on it, he bent down to look at Wei WuXian’s face. After a pause, he straightened up and asked, “Speaking of it, since when have you been so close to Lan WangJi?”
Wei WuXian immediately understood whose name he had unconsciously called out.
Jiang Cheng smiled menacingly, “It really is quite curious how far he went to protect you, back on Dafan Mountain.”
A moment later, he corrected himself, “No. You weren’t necessarily the one whom Lan WangJi was protecting. After all, the GusuLan Sect couldn’t have forgotten what you did with that loyal dog of yours. How could someone so celebrated for his righteousness tolerate the likes of you? Maybe he’s familiar with this body that you stole instead.”
His words were cruel and sinister. Every sentence seemed well-meaning on the surface, but was actually derogatory. Wei WuXian couldn’t bear hearing it any longer, “Watch your language.”
Thirteen years later his taunts have become more refined as he is well off into hating Lan Wangji himself now that Wei Wuxian had been dead. He taunts that Lan Wangji is more promiscuous than presented as well as using Wei Wuxian’s old goodwill for Lan Wangji for him to go on the defense. Jiang Cheng however thinks using the fact these men are gay is only a tool, he does not believe they are as his disgust of Mo Xuanyu being gay does disgust him. His suspicions have turned into bigotry instead finally in the years that Wei Wuxian was gone.
When Jiang Cheng accused him, Wei WuXian couldn’t defend himself at all, but he just couldn’t bear it when those words were being directed at Lan WangJi.
Wei WuXian reprimanded, “Jiang Cheng, just listen to yourself. What are you saying? Is it appropriate? Don’t forget who you are. After all, you’re the leader of a sect. Insulting a renowned cultivator in front of Uncle Jiang and Madam Yu’s spirits—where is your discipline?”
His original intention was to remind Jiang Cheng to at least hold some respect for Lan WangJi. However, Jiang Cheng was always sensitive. From those words, he managed to make out the notion that he wasn’t fit to be a sect leader. Immediately, darkness crawled up his face, bearing an eerie similarity to how Madam Yu looked when she was angry. His voice was harsh, “Who is the one insulting my parents in front of their spirits?! Could you two please understand whose sect you’re in? I don’t care if you act so shamelessly outside, but don’t you dare fool around inside our ancestral hall, before my parents’ spirits! After all, they were the ones who brought you up—even I feel ashamed for you!”
Wei WuXian never expected such a huge blow to crash down on him. He was both shocked and furious, blurting, “Shut up!”
Jiang Cheng pointed outside, “Mess around outside however you want, whether under a tree or on a boat, hugging or otherwise! Get out of my sect, get away from anywhere my eyes can see!”
Hearing him mention ‘under a tree’, Wei WuXian felt his heart skip a beat—could Jiang Cheng have seen the moment where he crashed into Lan WangJi’s arms?
His guess was not wrong. Jiang Cheng did indeed go out to find Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi. He chased after them in the direction that the street vendors pointed at. A voice in his heart seemed to tell him which places Wei WuXian would definitely go. He caught up to them in just a while. Yet, he just so happened to see Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi enveloped in a tight embrace under a tree, unwilling to let go of each other even after so long.
Goosebumps immediately ran down Jiang Cheng’s body.
Although he’d made guesses at the relationship between Mo XuanYu and Lan WangJi before, they were only attacks trying to offend Wei WuXian, not that he really suspected anything. He’d never thought that Wei WuXian would have ambiguous ties with a man, because after all, when they grew up together, Wei WuXian had never expressed any such interest. He’d always loved good-looking girls with a passion. On the other hand, it was even more impossible for Lan WangJi. He was famous for his asceticism, seemingly interested in neither men nor women.
But hugging like that seemed intense no matter what. At least, they didn’t seem like normal friends or brothers. He immediately recalled that Wei WuXian had always stuck to Lan WangJi ever since he came back. Lan WangJi’s attitude towards him was also different from what it was before he was reborn. At once, he was almost certain that the two really were in that kind of relationship. He couldn’t turn around and leave, yet he didn’t want to say a single word to the two, so he continued to hide himself as he followed them. Every single look and movement that passed between them seemed different in his eyes. For a while, the shock, absurdity, and slight disgust that he felt combined to overpower his hatred. It was only after Wei WuXian brought Lan WangJi into the ancestral hall that the long-suppressed hatred was awakened again, devouring his courtesy and rationality.
Wei WuXian was holding something back, “Jiang WanYin, you… apologize right now.”
Jiang Cheng mocked, “Apologize? For what? For exposing your thing for each other?”
Wei WuXian raged, “HanGuang-Jun is only my friend—what do you think we are?! I warn you. Apologize right now—don’t make me beat you!”
Hearing this, Lan WangJi’s expression froze for an instant. Jiang Cheng laughed, “Well, then I’ve never seen “friends” like that before? You warn me? Warn me against what? If you two had the slightest trace of integrity left, you wouldn’t have come here and…”
Seeing the change in Lan WangJi’s expression, Wei WuXian thought he must have felt insulted by Jiang Cheng’s words. He was so angry that his entire body was shaking. He didn’t dare think about what Lan WangJi would think after being shamed like this.
Obviously in the penultimate scene Jiang Cheng himself is being “the unreliable narrator” that fans love to accuse Wei Wuxian of. He says he never expected this of the two, but all the years of his behavior shows that he had always gone out of his way to keep the two away from each other and had always been mildly homophobic when the two did express interest in the other however innocent it had been in their youth.
All of this is to say, when it comes to how MXTX worded that interview answer, I think it was meant as a careful nudge for those who had still tried to insist that Jiang Cheng didn’t mean to be homophobic, actually wasn’t homophobic and was just angry at any other actions of Wei Wuxian and lashing out about that etc, it was her telling people to simply pay attention to the underlying shadowing of Jiang Cheng and how he exasperated his own pre-existing biases that morphed into an uglier hate.

mdzs vol. 1 chapter 2: the intractable-- first readthrough thoughts
“He could swear there was not a single wandering ghost in this world who was more decent and honest than he!” I believe you!!! Wei Wuxian NG+ run, nerfed build, unlocked romanceable NPC
I seriously feel for poor Mo Xuanyu, probably more than intended by MXTX lol. I’d be surprised if this wasn’t a common sentiment in the fandom, though. “What kind of hellish life was he fucking living?” indeed. Thank you for dying so that Wei Wuxian can get a second chance, Mo Xuanyu!! (weeps for fictional side character who dies basically page 1)
“If he delayed seeking food any longer, he might just become the first malicious ghost in history to die of hunger immediately after being summoned.” This chapter is full of hysterical lines and this was such a funny detail. WWX was so worried about his unrecovered spiritual power or whatever but it turned out he was just really fucking hungry. Like yeah that’s so real that happens to me every Sunday.
“Truly, out of the mountains a tiger can be bullied by a dog, in shallow waters a dragon can be mocked by a shrimp, and a plucked phoenix is lower than a chicken.” I just love this line.
“Everyone knows I like men. Even if he has no shame, I know not to make myself suspicious…I don’t care if you don’t care about your reputation, but I still care about mine!! I STILL GOTTA FIND A GOOD MAN!!!” Smiling beatifically.
“When it came to outrageous behavior, Wei Wuxian was an expert.” No kidding
I love Jingyi and Sizhui’s dynamic. Sizhui is calm and unfailingly kind, while Jingyi is instantly getting riled up by WWX’s antics. Looking forward to seeing more of these juniors.
“Wei Wuxian had swiftly finished inspecting the spirit-attraction flag. The drawn patterns were correct, and none of the spells were missing either. There were no mistakes, so no mishaps would occur if the flags were used.” He’s a good boy your honor
“This was a good sprout very worthy of encouragement, and Wei Wuxian mentally gave him a nod of approval…Wei Wuxian wondered who among that terrifying group full of uptight sticks-in-the-mud known as the Lan Clan had managed to raise such a junior.” Your future husband
The Supreme Evil Lord gets fucking resurrected and then just instantly starts selflessly trying to save everyone. Like this is your bad guy, cultivation world???? You sure?????
That being said, WWX’s utter control over the most evil of spirits is such a sexy trait like I get it Lan Zhan I really do
aaaand WWX’s gashes heal, revenge fulfilled. Crazy how if Mo Xuanyu stayed alive uhhhhh one more day the trash would’ve taken itself out for him. (Unless I’m mistaken??)
“Wei Wuxian was just about to let loose the whistle he held under his tongue when—right then—two strums from a guqin sounded in the far distance.” Let’s fucking gooooo!
“This time, the note was higher pitched, piercing through the sky like the austere harshness of winter’s first approach.” So lovely, so ethereal. As expected of ice prince Lan Zhan. Also the Seven Seas version has the most beautiful artwork of Lan Wangji and his guqin in this chapter! I wasn’t expecting it!
“Of all people who could have come, it had to be the Lan family; of all people to come, it just had to be Lan Wangji!” Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, etc. (Fleabag voice) This is a love story.
This is going down pretty similarly to how I remember it in The Untamed, except for Wei Wuxian doubling down on the cutsleeve thing, obviously. Eager to see where else things diverge…I'm having a fucking blast WWX is a delight

as good righteous and emotionally true as all those posts about jiang cheng having a completely stunning yet totally useless entry to guanyin temple are i do want to point out that technically he helps by holding wei wuxian’s flute. jiang cheng can contribute so long as it is by supporting wei wuxian. he is allowed to help like a boring girl sidekick from the eighties or that one dude from the jumanji reboot is allowed to help. he gets to support wei wuxian specifically in the necromancy he’s just spent the past sixteen years blaming for the death of his sister and destruction of almost everything he holds dear and i just think that’s very funny.

i feel like since i read it, and a lot of people haven’t/don’t want to (and that’s so valid and sexy of them) i should round up some highlights (subjectively) from the mdzs novel (missing from/in comparison to the untamed show or just in general) so u can all experience it without actually having to read some of the nonsense if ur really curious
#there’d have to be different categories I think. i could do things that are bad and things that r good too but#my intent would be to focus on the good/funny/interesting in a meaningful way#could also do a ‘should I read this extra?’ and warn u guys of which ones have freak shit in them#this would all be subjective tho so.#I have nothing the fuck better to do rn other than uhhhh make memes using the art applications I should be practicing art with#ok some category ideas include: ‘i’m baby 🥺’ ‘tender.......’ ‘absolute dumbassery on main’ ‘gay panic’ ‘gay feelings but no homo’#‘the juniors’ by which I mean things that expand on their chars#also anything that would significantly expand on chars/plot points/events#things that are either very different or slightly but it makes something nuanced in a significant/interesting way#I could just do a whole list of what I could jokingly call a cringe comp aka freak/unnecessary shit#which could also be ‘reasons not to read/parts to maybe skip if u do want to’ or ‘mxtx critical’ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#‘genuinely funny’ ‘things that made me want to pull my fucking hair out but not in a bad way necessarily’#‘wei wuxian is bisexual’ ‘wei wuxian is so oblivious and/or full of internalized homophobia/heteronormativity it hurts’#i was abt to say I’m willing to offer this as a public service but then I thought abt it and what if ppl paid me to#like not just for mdzs fuck dude I’ll become the new . what’s it called. the website that summarizes books for u.#but like upon request and it could both be an academic summary and some fun lists of things.#unrealistic actually huh. i suppose I could always try and set up one of thos lil donate/pledge things and pretend my Brain and ability to#organize ideas and lists and pick out details#i Forget where i was going with that. I think I was trying to say it is one of few skills I have but. that’s also subjective#anyway lmk if anyone would be interested in knowing what ur missing in mdzs and/or other novels or shows or whatever i can make it funny#it’s not actually much unless u wanna go deep on the analysis and think way too hard abt it#some parts of mdzs rotted my brain ngl#watch me end up deleting and redoing half these tags later bc I got on that adhd just typing what I’m thinking shit

Ranking power levels of the main MXTX couples is kind of funny to me, because I don't really see the point generally, because (there's no real reason for any of them to fight and) they're each working on completely different world-builds with slightly different genre rules. Also, even so, it seems relatively clear to me at first glance? (Obviously, this is all personal opinion.)
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are powerful and skilled cultivators, but still human, as is Shen Qingqiu. Wei Wuxian is probably the most "powerful" of the three of them due to sheer cleverness and destructive potential, able to raise armies of the dead and all that, though at great personal cost. But in any given fight, you generally just have to stab or hit someone once in the right place, so Lan Wangji and Shen Qingqiu are also able to potentially take on far more "powerful" opponents if they target weak spots quickly enough. Everything depends on circumstances.
Luo Binghe is interesting because, while he's able to be killed, he is an incredibly powerful cultivator and also descended from demons who "fell from the heavens". I tend to think of him as a "demi-god" of sorts and I figure it's potentially within his capability to challenge actual gods. The world of SVSSS is not the same as PIDW, so I am not counting "Protagonist Halo" as particularly relevant, but the fact that actual mountains and hellish abysses are getting shifted around in SVSSS using the Xin Mo sword is very relevant here.
I think cultivators like Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, and Shen Qingqiu are definitely in with a shot against someone like Luo Binghe if they're sufficiently clever/lucky and the heavenly demon in question is sufficiently unstable/unlucky. (See: the sealing of Tianlang-Jun, Luo Binghe's birth father.) Especially Wei Wuxian, with the potential armies of the resentful dead (which he probably doesn't want to do) and all of the other inventions of new forms of cultivation that he can potentially do if given motivation and preparation time. (All of these characters are HAPPILY MARRIED NOW, they don't want to fight, leave them ALONE.)
Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are so incredibly fuck-off powerful and skilled that the sheer difference in ass-kicking abilities is actually incredibly funny. Do I think that Luo Binghe armed with the Xin Mo sword could give gods and ghost kings a lot of trouble? Sure. Do I think that Demon Emperor Bing-Ge could make the heavens shake? Yes. Do I think that Luo Binghe would ultimately win that fight? No. Hua Cheng picks fights with gods and ruins their fucking lives for funsies, essentially, and I like to imagine Xie Lian snapping the Xin Mo sword in half with his bare hands because it's funny to me.

Okay so having finished The Untamed--
spoilers now but also, I haven't read the book yet so pls don't get into it with me about it if it's super different--
one thing that's really sticking with me is the parallels between Jin Guangyao and Jin Guangshan's deaths.
Specifically, the way Nie Huaisang's choice of final blow resembles what Jin Guangyao did with his father, and how deeply that underlines the way nhs chose to become his enemy in order to defeat him. In a way the plot-level scheming doesn't really achieve that comparison.
Because, see, the thing about Jin Guangshan's death, about Meng Yao bringing in those women to stage a weird noncon death orgy is--that was just theater. For an audience of basically the two of them, since he killed off most of the witnesses afterward.
Jin Guangyao bought and spent a bunch of women's lives to kill his father in a poetically fitting, humiliating way. A way that only worked because the man was already dying!
Meng Yao had good reasons to kill his father. Arguably his being quicker off the mark and more proactive about it would have made things better for everyone. But no. He waited all that time, until he could have just smothered the man with a pillow and gotten away with it, and then launched this elaborate punishment death for him.
For a man whose treatment of sex workers as disposable was one of the main crimes Meng Yao held against him.
The main irony is not at the old man's expense here dude, what are you doing.
All his other crimes were in service of something! Even if it was something fucked-up and/or lame and awful and clearly not worth it, he had a goal he was working toward and in some cases probably really was telling himself he had no choice--I don't think that's an excuse you'd proffer quite that incessantly if you hadn't been using it internally.
But killing Jin Guangshan like that--that was just for his own satisfaction. Using those women up so he could pointlessly enjoy it.
So then when Nie Huaisang chooses to kill Meng Yao by abusing Lan Xichen's trust--equally, he didn't have to do that.
Meng Yao was exposed and injured and outnumbered and alone. Even if they'd all walked away right then he was likely to die, from blood loss or infection or being caught by the cultivation world and strung up like Mussolini.
Of course, after all this trouble Nie Huaisang would want to be sure. That's why he inserted himself into the scene at all, I'm sure; he probably wanted to see it play out but he definitely wanted to make sure the revenge landed. Of course he wasn't going to risk handing his target over to justice and risking him talking his way out after all, or slipping away and moving to Japan. (Side note: I think it's very funny jgy suggested 'I'll move to Japan' as an acceptable alternative to 'I'll die.')
Nie Huaisang isn't a strong fighter, but Jin Guangyao isn't all that powerful either, as these things go, and he's down an arm and demoralized. Nie Huaisang could definitely have insisted on having him tied up, if he thought he needed the extra edge, created a distraction, and choked his enemy to death with his bare hands, if he'd wanted to. He could have sent an assassin into his cell if the man was sentenced to imprisonment.
He had a lot of options, is my point.
But he didn't do those things. Instead, he used Lan Xichen.
He used Lan Xichen exactly the same way Jin Guangyao had, abused his trust and love to manipulate him into being the instrument of killing his own sworn brother. If Lan Xichen wasn't broken already, Nie Huaisang ensured it, and he damn well knew what he was doing.
A friend of mine argues he did it because it would hurt Lan Xichen as well, as vengeance on him for being the instrument of Jin Guangyao's plot to kill Nie Mingjue. Idk if this is like, something that's outright stated in the text or just A Reasonable Interpretation, but it's not better that way--it's less careless, but it just even more emphasizes that he knew.
He knew who he was emulating.
And that's part of the point of interest to me because it's very clear that Huaisang does know who he's imitating, whose game he's choosing to play back at him. What he's choosing to become.
It's not so blatant in their both using Wei Wuxian because, firstly, he's the main character so we expect him to be at the center of things; secondly, everyone wants to use Wei Wuxian; thirdly, Nie Huaisang's schemes are comparatively beneficial to him.
Wei Wuxian himself has a marked tendency to reduce himself to his utility; it's easy to let it go, as a trespass against him, especially when it literally gives him another chance at life.
When you look at how they both reduced Lan Xichen to a piece in the game, though, leveraged his affection and his trust to make him into a murder weapon--then it stands out.
Obviously they're both schemers but that's just an archetype. Spy-versus-spy beat-them-at-their-own-game isn't inherently intimate like this, even when it's vengeance. Even when it's revenge on someone you used to trust.
And Nie Huaisang knows. I don't think Jin Guangyao ever did. I think he lies to himself a lot and in the end that's a significant element in his downfall, but also he just--doesn't perceive himself with any of the detachment he's able to turn on most of the world. I don't think he ever in his life noticed the ways he'd become his father.
But Huaisang sure as fuck knew what he'd decided to become.
Which is why that endscene tying up his plot thread focuses on his not wanting to be Chief Cultivator--he didn't do all this to get Jin Guangyao out of the way and replace him. He doesn't want to become the new metaplot villain, the way jgy replaced jgs who replaced wen ruohan.
So maybe things will be okay.
This relationship between Nie Huaisang and Jin Guangyao and how nhs' self-awareness of how he's committed to a form of villainy and chooses to restrain himself, which is what promises an end to the abuse cycle on the political stage, ties in really interestingly to some of the other stuff mxtx does with the concept of villainy but this post is already long enough.

Morally grey? How people get to that conclusion when MXTX said, AND I QUOTE “Both WWX and LWJ are highly ideal characters, so there wouldn't be too much dispute on their moral standing.” she even mentions JC negative energy. People just didn't read the same thing we did (If they read it at all). She goes further to say there is not much special about LXC either, he sees through his brother and that's all. That to be able to do that doesn't mean it's the same with others (hence how JGY deceived him so spectacularly). She goes on and on basically going against every meta or whatever this fandom created. it's kinda funny how had they payed attention.. we wouldn't see how this is all just proof that people read too much into things just to satisfy their own fantasy.
Yeah. MXTX is very clear about how she intends this story to be read -- WWX and LWJ as highly ideal characters with moral authority. Readings of the text that undermine that are missing the entire intended point of the story. Like, you can decide that JC was in the right because he had to keep face and protect his people, and read the story with that understanding, but because that is not the intended message, you're going to be missing themes about standing up for the right thing even when it requires personal sacrifice, and so on.
The thing about MDZS is that there aren't really competing moral imperatives here where neither side is portrayed as wrong, just as having different priorities. That is not the central moral issue of this story. As we proceed through the flashbacks and discover what actually happened with WWX's downfall and death, what we discover is that WWX took a moral stand and everyone else put their own feelings of resentment and desire for revenge ahead of morality and treating people humanely.
This is not even ambiguous in the text. When WWX arrives at the Jin banquet looking for Wen Ning and accuses the Jins of wanting to be the new Wens, this exchange occurs:
Another guest cultivator stood up, "Of course it's different. The Wen-dogs did all kinds of evil. To arrive at such an end is only karma for them. We only avenged a tooth for a tooth, letting them taste the fruit that they themselves had sown. What's wrong with this?"
Wei WuXian, "Take revenge on the ones that bite you. Wen Ning's branch doesn't have much blood on their hands. Don't tell me that you find them guilty by association?"
Another person spoke, "Young Master Wei, is it that they don't have much blood on their hands just because you say so? These are only your one-sided words. Where's the evidence?"
Wei WuXian, "You think that they killed the innocent--aren't those your one-sided words as well? Shouldn't you be the first one to show evidence? Why would you instead ask me for evidence?"
The person shook his head, the words 'this man refuses to reason with me' written all over his face. Someone else sneered, "Back then, when the Wen Sect slaughtered our people, it was thousands of times crueler than this! They didn't treat us with justice and morality, so why should we treat them with such?"
(Chapter 72, ExR)
WWX's position here is clear. He tells them that targeted revenge is fine, but don't extend it to people who were not involved. He also advocates for innocent until proven guilty.
The sects' position is likewise clear. "They didn't treat us with justice and morality, so why should we treat them with such?" They want to resent and punish all Wens. They do not want to be just and moral.
WWX's conversation with JC that leads to his defection further underscores this.
Wei WuXian finally lost his temper, "Jiang Cheng! What- What do you think you're talking about? Take it back--don't make me give you a thrashing! Don't forget. Who was the one that helped us burn Uncle Jiang's and Madam Yu's corpses? Who returned to us the ashes that are in Lotus Pier right now? And who took us in when we were chased after by Wen Chao?"
Jiang Cheng, "I'm the one who fucking wants to give you a thrashing! Yes, they helped us before, but why in the world don't you understand that right now any remnant of the Wen Sect is a target of criticism? No matter who they are, with a surname of Wen they have committed a most heinous crime! And those who protect the Wen are at risk of being condemned by everyone! All the people loathe the Wen-dogs so badly that the worse they die the better. Whoever protects them is against the entire world. Nobody would speak for them, and nobody would speak for you either!"
(Chapter 73, ExR)
The moral positions here are equally clear. WWX emphasizes that Wen Ning and Wen Qing helped them, very significantly. They owe help in return.
JC acknowledges the debt and says that it does not matter in the face of the world's criticism. This is not a competing moral imperative that he claims, unless you want to try to stretch it beyond what JC is actually saying here. His objection is that people will be angry if they help the Wens because right now everyone hates the Wens. He does not want to take the world's anger.
Just a couple chapters later, we get a final clear statement of the intended moral message of this situation:
"But, let the self judge the right and the wrong, let others decide to praise or to blame, let gains and losses remain uncommented on. I, too, know what I should and shouldn't do."
(Chapter 75, ExR)
Judge for yourself what is wrong and what is wrong. Other people will say whatever they will say. Don't do it for what you will gain or what you might lose.
It does not matter to WWX if protecting the Wens will gain him the world's condemnation and result in him losing his position in society. The right thing is the right thing.
And what makes WWX a hero is his willingness to stand up and do the right thing. It is everyone who lets fear of the world's condemnation stop them from doing the right thing that this story frames as in the wrong.
So yes, MXTX tells us in the postscript how we are meant to read the story, at least in terms of WWX's moral position. But MXTX's words, while helpful, shouldn't actually be necessary. The actual story is clear about its moral position -- which is also something I've discussed from another angle here.
This is not meant to be a story with morally gray characters. If people believe it is, I think they're bringing their own assumptions in, not taking the text as it is.

10 Characters, 10 Fandoms, 10 Tags
Tagged by: @oddishblossom. Thank you! 💖
This was certainly a trip down memory lane haha. I forgot I was really into a few of these a while back. I may not be in most of these fandoms now, but I put them in for them being my obsession at some point in time.
Rn my head is filled with MDZS anyway so xD
1. Wei Wuxian ~ MDZS
He is one of my absolute favorite characters of all time. I adore everything about him, he's outrageously smart, calculated, intelligent, witty, funny, sexy, he invented necromancy, his morality is perfect (in the novel) what more do you want?
I really have to keep this short and not a 10k essay xD
2. Xie Lian ~ TGCF
Xie Lian's character compelled me through his absolute resilience and tenacity, despite all his trauma. He's been through an outrageous amount of pain and suffering, yet he's selfless but unafraid to fuck ship up when needed. He also recognizes and loves Hua Cheng for exactly who he is and I love him too.
3. Luo Binghe ~ SVSSS
Going from withstanding Shen Jiu's physical and emotional torture, to falling madly with Shen Qingqiu to being 'betrayed' by him and to coming back (all demonic and sexy) to being obsessed even more up to marrying him. He's been through a lot, he's willing to endure whatever it takes if it means he can be with Sheng Qingqiu. The entire plot was altered due to his infatuation with him.
4. Zuko ~ ATLA
If you've followed me for a while I posted a bit / spam reblogged ATLA on this blog. Zuko was always the most compelling character in ATLA for me and I will always love and defend him. He deserves a lot of love and recognition for his growth and development.
5. Chuuya ~ BSD
My gorgeous smart-ass half god, half jerk in love with Dazai. Port Mafia executive Nakahara Chuuya. I theorized a lot about him when I was OBSESSED with BSD and his character is extremely interesting to delve into. + he can fuck up an army with his hands in his pockets xD
6. Shogo Makashima ~ Psycho-Pass
Wouldn't be able to talk abt this show now due to it being so long ago, but at the time I watched this I remember thinking: 'this is the absolute best, most intricate and most well designed villain of all time and I am IN LOVE'. Of course, it's been a long time since and I've the same opinion about others now, but still worth putting here for my brainrot back then.
7. Kageyama Tobio ~ Haikyuu
Before MXTX I was extremely invested in Haikyuu. I loved everything Tobio represented from the first moment he showed up on screen and god knows I fought to defend him a lot.
8. Alucard ~ Castlevania
Castlevania was my shortest obsession, but during the time I watched it I feel in love with Alucard. I cried over my half vampire boy finally getting the happiness he deserves.
9. Envy ~ FMA
I know not everyone's favorite, but he always stood up as that villain that wasn't ridiculously OP for no reason, as FMA does. He had his insecurities and vulnerabilities, he was very realistic and believable!
10. Fushiguro Megumi ~ Jujutsu Kaisen
Megumi's ability not to care what others think judge things by his own ideology is what drew me towards him. Plus he's extremely stoic and calculated.
This was difficult because from each of these fandoms I love a lot of characters and I'm into a lot of ships. I could re-do this list for the same fandoms with a whole set of characters, a few times over haha.
And now for the 10 Tags too:
This is a lot and y'all really don't have to if you don't want to <3
Tagging: @hualianaddict @novas-grimoire @captain-stab-a-hoe @dual-domination @my-surname-is-jin @sweet-sweet-days @shigacajun @anisthasiazewicor @mushrooms-and-ivy @theheartconstellation
Sorry if I missed anyone in the 10 tags list and sorry if some of you already did it. If anyone else wants to do it, please do and you can say I tagged you!

MXTX Hunger Games Day 1
"Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, Jin Guangyao, and Qi rong away from the Cornucopia."
I like to imagine that Wangxian are just holding hands the whole time XD.
"Mobei-Jun retrieves a trident from inside the cornucopia"
Honey, you have Ice powers, just freeze the river.
"Wen Qing grabs a backpack and retreats."
Smart woman
"Song Lan rips a mace out of Lan Xichen's hands."
5 seconds in and Song Lan chooses violence, I am both surprised and approve.
"Ling Wen grabs a backpack, not realizing it is empty."
Oh my God, XD. You already suffer enough in canon with the mountains of paperwork.
"Xiao Xingchen runs into the cornucopia and hides."
You know, this is my fault for putting a blind man in the Hunger Games.
"Mu Qing,Hua Cheng, Shi Qingxuan, Liu Qingge, Sha Hualing, Feng Xin, Jin Ling, Ning Yingying, Pei Ming, and Nie Huaisang all run away from the Cornucopia."
This all feels canon in a very "fuck this shit, I'm out" way. (Except for Hua Cheng, he's just finding a nice place for him and Xie Lian to rest and plan things out.)
"Xue Yang finds a canteen full of water."
I'm very proud of Xue Yang for not committing murder the second it became allowed. That shows a lot of restraint on his part. XD
"Jiang Yanli finds a bow, some arrows, and a quiver."
"Liu Mingyan finds a bag full of explosives."
Goddam the women are going to grab up all the tools, men, step up your game.
"Yue Qingyuan snatches a bottle of alcohol and a rag."
Meanwhile, sugar-gege is going to spend his last days getting white- girl-wasted.
"Luo Binghe, Jun Wu, and Shang Qinghua get into a fight. Luo Binghe triumphantly kills them both."
First of all, Luo Binghe deciding that he will kill everyone, so no one would hurt his shizun is somehow the most in character decision this simulator could come up with. Second of all, Jun Wu, it's what you deserve. And GODDAMN POOR HAMSTER COULDN'T EVEN LAST A SECOND. XD. Death to the author has a whole new meaning.
"Wen Ning grabs a shovel."
Poor Wen Ning, just trying to clean up the slaughter he just witnessed.
"He Xuan and Xie Lian retrieve a trident from inside the cornucopia."
Given how many tridents are being handed out I'm assuming they're near an ocean.
"Shen Qingqiu snaps Shen Jiu's neck."
I shouldn't find this as funny as I do, the husbands who murder together stay together. (Given that Shen Yuan wanted to castrate Shen Jiu, for abusing Luo Binghe, when he was reading PIDW I shouldn't be surprised.)
"Jiang Cheng, Nie Mingjue, Lan Sizhui, and Mianmian run away from the Cornucopia."

the recluse at the end of the moonlit path | rated T
reincarnation au, post-canon, lan wangji is immortal, and wei wuxian is an artist visiting gusu. he invites himself into lwj’s life and is very confused but very happy when lwj just... lets him. way less angsty than the immortality thing makes it sound, good vibes!
under the starlit sky | rated T
this was my first fic in over a year, so I kept it short and simple to test the waters, both writing and characterization-wise. post-canon, just quiet wangxian moments and nothing else. some feels, but mostly sweetness.
all of you (only you) | rated T
decided to live dangerously and write my first tgcf fic from hua cheng’s pov. post-canon hualian, a very tender and self-indulgent domestic fic. lots and lots of kisses and healthy communication aka classic hualian. they only drink Respect Each Other juice. short and soft read.
all yours (all mine) | rated E

Manga/Manhua/Webcomic recommendations I have
These are either REAL gay or REAL Femdom you know. Maybe not in the erotic department, but in the Feelings~
So I’m recommending these cause I think they deserve more recognition and attention. If they do, the artist may get more big bucks to keep the ball rolling.
A lot of these are Chinese based novels that I got into after falling in love with Mo Dao Zu Shi and all of Mxtx’s works. I’ll link them, tell you guys the chapter number, and rate them so you guys can get an idea of what they’re like.
College Student Empress, +32 Chapters
https://manganelo.com/manga/ho922575
Tumblr media
9/10 Okay, talk about a smart dom. She is such a babe and so clever, I love her. She somehow gets reincarnated into an empress and has to brains her way out of not being assassinated by an unknown attacker while also maintaining the life of said empress. Art is gorgeous, surprisingly the hair styles are really cool. The only downside is that the emperor is a whiny immature little man child that everyone consecutively agrees to punch in the face. Maybe he’ll transform into a nice passive sub one day. Also, beautiful women everywhere and the MC is hilarious.
To Be Or Not To Be, +56 Chapters
https://manganelo.com/manga/ox920326
Tumblr media
9/10 Ahh, this is a good one. The cover is very misleading actually. Another gets reincarnated into a royals body, this time around business man gets reincarnated into an emperor’s body of a book he reads who is supposed to be the villain. Very Scum Villain esque. Let's see, lovely art, great characters, very gay, plenty book subversions cause of that gay. And what- ah, what’s this?
Lesbians?! In my 2020?! The year of Lesbians?!
Devil Wants To Hug, +56 Chapters
https://manganelo.com/manga/vb920111
Tumblr media
8/10 A soulmate sort of story. Lovely characters, nice conflict, very very gay. Demons, gods, cultivators, the likes. Some fun amnesia thrown in there for the mix! Art is pretty in its own style. I personally really like when all the characters become chibis. Those are actually the first chibis that I have ever found to be cute.
I Accidentally Saved The Jianghu’S Enemy, +9 Chapters
https://manganelo.com/manga/cj923095
Tumblr media
7/10 This one’s kind of fun. Both main characters are kind of little shits if I’m being honest and I like them for it. Gives off a very Mo Dao Zu Shi vibe to it. The boy in red is like Xue Yang and Wei Wuxian mixed really nicely together. It’s basically about a medical practitioner with a shady past saves the life of evil boy who is super shady. It doesn’t have much in the way of chapters right now, but the art style is very pretty and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
As Lovely As The Peach Blossoms, +24 Chapters
https://manganelo.com/manga/et923098
Tumblr media
6.5/10 Very cute. Very soft. Different than the rest of the other stories in a way, plot wise. Art style isn’t amazing, but it is pleasant and gentle. There is a smidge of homophobic actions, but it’s easy to push through. Its about these two who have known each other for a long time, finally get reunited.
Silent Lover, +19 Chapters
https://manganelo.com/manga/jw922352
Tumblr media
6/10, whaaa, is that a bad ranking. Nah, not really. There are other ones I have read that aren’t on this list at all and are no good! Now this one does have its strengths and weakness. Firstly the strengths, good plot, good characters, especially the antagonist, she is such a BITCH, I love her. Art style is very pretty. There is crossdressing and gay shit galore. Set in some timeline of ancient China. I honestly relate to the MC and find him to be very reasonable even if OTHERS think he’s too wimpy. Now, flaws. Uhh, it’s one of those stories where the top is pretty terrible at first and abusive. I think it’s some sort of romanticized theme that I’m seeing in a lot of these East Asian Stories. Makes me con-cerned. Thankfully it doesn’t last too long, as expected.
Villain Initialization, +60 Chapters
https://manganelo.com/manga/mc922174
Tumblr media
10/10 would recommend! Holy shit, this one is so fucking funny and relatable. You got super powers, you got second chances at repeating your life, you got a villain- you got a hero maybe becoming... you know 😳. The art is awesome, all the ladies are god damn hot, the villain’s super suit fits in all the right places. Holy moly, I hope this gets adapted into something cause it is that fucking gooooddd!
