Movie!Ginny meets Book!Ginny.
“Well, how do we send her back?” Hermione asked, wringing her hands nervously.   Ron squinted at the other, less bright Ginny. “Why does it look like there’s grey paint poured on her skin,”   “What do you mean?” Harry asked, trying to remain respectful. She was right there after all.   “It looks like there’s some muddled filter over her. Like I'm looking through a dirty lens,” he said, gesturing vaguely in the other Ginny’s direction.   “Yes, where I come from, everything is grey, sad, and lifeless,” she said quietly.   Ginny, his Ginny, hummed at the back of her throat. “That must suck,”   “I don’t know,” the other Ginny shrugged.   There was a long silence. “You really don’t talk all that much, do you?” Ginny asked the annoyance in her voice was palpable.   The other Ginny shook her head.   “Right, well-“ Harry began but was swiftly interrupted.   “Your shoelace is undone,” the other Ginny said, pointing at Harry’s foot.   “Oh, erm…” Harry looked down. Indeed, the laces were loose, spilling onto the floor. “Thanks,” he crouched to fiddle with them while the rest of the room fell silent.   “Fucking hell,” Ginny sighed, collapsing into a chair opposite herself.

It's official the HBO series will happen.
What's your thoughts?
I'm so so annoyed.
But before getting into my personal feelings, I find it a very weird investment choice. In ten years? Yes, it would have made sense, but now? It's too early. The movies are still very relevant for a lot of people. That mixed with JK Rowling's current reputation is a recipe for disaster. The only way for them to not get cancelled on season 2 is to make a bloody masterpiece. It seems the only way for people to forget JK Rowling's transphobic shit.
I think the two main driving factors were JK Rowling trying to regain popularity and also I believe they want to give it a final try at a Harry Potter cinematic universe, Marvel or Star Wars style. But to do that they need some decent central material, so clearly they couldn't use those godawful movies.
It could be a masterpiece, but I don't believe it will be.
They showcase Rowling being an executive producer as a reassuring thing but frankly, that worries me even more. Do I really need to pull out all the interviews in which she shows she doesn't remember what she has written? Because I can. Every single one of my mutuals here on Tumblr knows those books better than that woman, I can bet whatever you want on that.
I thought a lot during the years about how a Harry Potter tv series should be, I have notes written down, but I have zero trust in these people.
If Steve Kloves gets anywhere near that writing room I'm going to personally set it on fire with all the people working on this project inside
I hope they are going to use the possibilities the media they are using gives and show things even when Harry is not there. And I also hope they are going to use the fact that everybody already knows the story. In season 2, show us what goes on with Ginny and the diary, we already know Ginny has the diary, and the birds in the sky already know Ginny has the diary, you don't need to make it a mystery for the viewer, just for Harry. And in general, if they are smart (and I don't think they are) they are going to show a lot of Ginny's storyline that we didn't get in the books. A story of mental health with a strong female character? They'd be fucking idiots to waste it.
In moments like the Yule Ball, show us what is going on with every character. Show us Ginny meeting Micheal, explore why Hermione likes Krum, show us George trying to not be jealous of Fred with Angelina.
Show us Ron and Hermione when Harry is not there!!! Maybe let them speak about Hermione's relationship with her parents and try to give some sense to the fact that she has children young despite the fact that she seems everything but family oriented from Harry's perspective.
Show us what happens at Hogwarts during the war, especially considering how fucking boring the Horcrux hunt is (some of the most boring writing I've ever seen).
Hermione is a character that aged really badly in terms of contemporary feminism, and it will be even worse in the later seasons if they get to do them because they'll come out in a decade. Don't change her character to adjust to new times. Make sure the narrative addresses her wrong behaviour without changing the story. For example, make Harry and Ginny have a conversation on how wrong she was at setting the canaries on Ron, but save the storyline by making Harry convince an angry Ginny to let Ron and Hermione sort their shit out on their own.
Throw away the children's filter. Show us alcoholic Sirius Black that lives with the ghost of his best friend.
Also, while I'm on that: more Harry bonding with Sirius!!!!
Give us special episodes focused on other storylines. Give us one special episode on James and Lily's story, who cares if we see Snape being friends with Lily before DH, everybody already knows the story!! Give us an episode on the story of the three Black sisters! Give us an episode on Remus and Tonks. And at the very end, give us an episode on Harry and Ginny getting back together.
Remember that you are working with a visual art. When Harry looks at Ginny dancing at the Yule Ball she should have a green dress that matches Harry's green robes, so that you can have a shot of them dressing coordinated but dancing with other people. HBP has a binary structure of juxtaposition of light and dark, fucking show it!! On this note, Ginny should always look a bit brighter if she is around Harry.
In general, use those fucking colours!! Visual art!!!!
I want to be able to see what's on the bloody screen
So many cool things could be done, but they are not gonna do them, and that's why I'm going to hate every single second of it.
I hope to be proven wrong.

I won’t even do this anonymously i stg.
I follow you on Instagram and I know this isn’t an ask but I just gotta get it off my chest:
We need a romione shipper to script the Harry Potter remake. Like, y’all are the most borderline annoyingly passionate part of the fandom, but the biggest deal is that you all understand Hermione and Ron. (Both of which were completely ruined in the films)
Generally, romione shippers also have a good deal of respect/correct understanding of Harry, Ginny, Snape, Dumbledore, Draco, etc as characters, so that’s unlikely to get fucked up.
Praying for a romione shipper to get hired to depict these characters the way they were supposed to be depicted.
Fuck it, here’s my crack at it from a discord convo a while ago.:
Now imagine if the music was playing in the tent, Ron is back after the locket has been destroyed. Hermione is sitting in the chair sulking and Ron switches from the death watch’s radio to a song on the wireless.
The camera is focused on Hermione. A freckled hand enters the frame and her eyes dart to it before looking up, off screen. She hesitantly reaches forward, still frowning, and the camera pulls back, and we see it’s Ron, pulling her up (and figuratively out of her negativity)
Hermione’s stone-faced expression remains, but Ron’s is soft. His eyes are on her. He’s sorry, but he doesn’t know how to say it properly, not after his first botched attempt.
He starts shuffling awkwardly, swinging back and forth because he sure as hell doesn’t know how to dance.
The camera keeps them centred. Hermione on the left, and Ron on the right. It looks like the room is turning around them. They’re the focus.
“I know Krum was probably better at this than me,” Rom starts, and Hermione makes to pull her hand out of his grip, but Ron tightens his hold. Not aggressive, he’s serious. It forces her to look at him, and the room isn’t spinning anymore.
“But I don’t care,”
Hermione let’s Ron continue to dance with her, and slowly, the cold expression softens somewhat as she understands just how immature they all are.
She smiles, and the music gets louder. It’s all we hear now, and now the camera is turning around them as she joins the dance. Not following anymore but leading with Ron. Multiple cuts throughout their dance as they laugh and joke around. Then, the camera turns away from the dance, and we see Harry sitting at the kitchen table, smiling at his two friends, the sword of Gryffindor lying on the table next to the marauders map.
(The lighting when Hermione is pulled out of the chair changes completely. There’s more colour in the shot when Ron is there. ++ saturation. How about get a filmmaker who actually uses all the tools of the craft at his disposal, and not David fucking Yates and Steve “The Fucktard” Kloves)
The camera moves across the floor towards Harry, and as it is about to reach his head he turns his attention from Ron and Hermione to the map on the table.
His expression saddens, and the camera follows his attention to the map, where we see Ginny’s dot.
PLEASE, Warner Bros, I beg of you.
Tumblr media
Also, (though i know your opinion on them has soured) I fucking adore Ron and Harry’s friendship, and I love how they’re blokey blokes. We NEED that represented ASAP.
I love love love that ficlet omg😭❤

Movie!Hinny Positivity Post
Scrolling through my posts, I realize I tend to shit on Movie Hinny, Ginny, and Harry a lot lmfaooo, so I thought I’d make a Movie!Hinny positivity post to prove to myself I really can be optimistic about a mostly pessimistic adaptation if I try. Feel free to reblog and add more to this list if I missed any!
1. The MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS HOT DAMN. The songs “Ginny” and “When Ginny Kissed Harry” has to be in my top 3 movie songs (right after “Snape to Malfoy Manor” aka the title theme song to DH1). They are just so angelic and beautiful that it makes their kissing scenes way more palatable to watch imho.
2. The intense, piercing, soul-searching way Harry looks at her in the last three movies (though mainly HBP). Even though they don’t really speak to each other much in HBP, their heated looks manage to tell a story of their own that I don’t even think Romione does until some parts of DH1. Seriously, Harry doesn’t look at anyone in the heated way he looks at Ginny, not even Cho, Romilda, Luna, or the waitress diner girl at the beginning of HBP, whom if they were given noncanon romantic looks were nowhere near as searing as the ones he gave to Ginny. (The only time he gets even close is to Hermione during the noncanon dancing tent scene but I’m trying to keep this post positive lmfao so let’s move on…). For instance, even if you don’t like these scenes there’s no denying the actors - especially Dan Rad - mastered the great art of eye-fucking. Think about it: the looks when Harry gazes up at her while she’s at the top of the Burrow all-Repunzel-Flynn-Ryder-style with the song “Ginny” playing in the background, when Harry finishes that tension-filled hug also at the Burrow, when he’s listening to her brothers tease Ginny about Dean in Fred and George’s shop, when Ginny walks in late during Slughorn’s dinner and he stands up and stares at her, when she walks in the RoR in DH2 and the hard set of Harry’s jawline and eyes go soft when they see her, when SHE ASKS TO ZIP UP HER DRESS AND THE UP-AND-DOWN LOOK HE GIVES LITERALLY RIGHT WHILE HES DOING IT OH MY FFFFING LORDDDDD 💦💦💦🌊🌊🌊. Anywho.
3. The hug Ginny gives Harry after Dumbledore dies. A beautiful addition to the books that actually contributes to the strength of their relationship. In the books, Ginny is the only one to pull Harry away from his beloved mentor and idol’s body, but in the movies, she stays with him and holds him through his pain, really emphasizing her role as his greatest source of comfort. Both versions of course were cute, but this was not bad either.
4. When Ron says “you know why I listen to the radio every day? So I don’t hear Ginny, or Fred, or Molly” and Harry goes “you think I’m not listening too? You think I don’t know how this feels?!” Okay, I know that the focus of this fight in the movie was not on Hinny but at least it shows that Harry was thinking about her even if not all of his actions in the tent scenes did.
5. Right before the Golden Trio Disapperates from Fleur and Bill’s wedding and Harry shouts “Ginny!” while running to protect her but Lupin holds him back and pushes him toward his friends. (Which btw is very much reminiscent of when Lupin holds him back from running to Sirius right after he dies AND as we see later in DH2, when Arthur holds Ginny back from running to “dead” Harry as she shouts “No. NO!”). An uncharacteristic thoughtful small scene written by the man himself, Steve Kloves, everyone, who would’ve thought.
6. When they kiss in DH2 spontaneously and Ginny goes “I know,” which many assume to mean that she knows that Harry was about to tell her he loves her. This was also their least cringey on-screen kiss, so extra points for that. ALSO FUN FACT which y’all might know already and I’m just slow but did you know that Daniel Radcliffe and Bonnie Wright actually improvised that kiss scene? There’s an interview online in which DR talks about it (he says something along the lines of “I could die any minute now, Ginny. We should probably kiss” in that very awkward, dry way that he’s known to talk in interviews lmfaoooo.)
7. when Hermione says “how does it feel like, when you see Dean with Ginny?” and after the whole Angry Bird™️ live action moment she performs, Harry goes “It feels like this.” I’m not a huge fan of this scene generally for other reasons but something about this dialogue was very poignant and was a good summary of his feelings even if the actual acting/scripts for other parts didn’t always match up.
8. The deleted scene of Harry desperately clutching Ginny’s hand while marching toward the Great Hall in DH2. Also plot-wise, it makes a lot more sense if they had not removed it because otherwise one is left questioning how Harry showed up in the following scene in which he accuses Snape.
9. In the Epilogue scene where Albus falls behind and Ginny and Harry look at each other with the same cadence as an old married couple who just internally know each other and their child and how to console him. It just screams long-term intimacy and maturity, I love it. The glance happens for a millisecond but it’s definitely, obviously there.
10. In COS where Ginny runs away from Harry when they first meet is honestly the cutest thing in the history of forever. Plus the way Harry runs and I mean runs to her cold almost dead body and grips her hand when he finds her on the Chamber floor.
11. This is less of a Movie Hinny thing but a Movie Ginny thing but you guys. The sheer COMMAND my girl has on the Quidditch field in the match against Slytherin. Even though the focus is on Ron’s victory (another soundtrack song that ranks prolly #5 for me), if you pay attention to Ginny’s plays, she’s absolutely fucking fierce and impressive as hell. To the point that the strength of her Quaffle throw knocked a few Slytherins against the hoops too. Again, it’s subtle but unmistakably, purposefully there.
12. Another Movie!Ginny appreciative moment is literally almost all of her dialogue in GoF. (“I think you’re in love, Ron.” “I’m not wearing that it’s ghastly.” “Don’t be so rude.”) She’s hilarious and where was that sass and spunk in the later movies where they actually mattered??
13. Again, again, again, the friendly but awe-encompassing looks he gives her in OoTP when she beats the shit out of that dummy with her Reducto spell and when he compliments her Patronus (“Excellent, Ginny!”). You can definitely see that the movie producers, director, and whatnot are trying to get viewers to see her at least as powerful and contributive, if nothing else.
What Movie!Hinny positive moments did I miss that you appreciated?

Below the cut:
Traumaposting about mental illness and life in eggmode, boymode, and early transition
Discussion of lingering now-verboten feels for a certain bestselling British fantasy series about a magical boarding school, including unabashedly relating to shitty representation and thinking villains are kinda cool
As a kid, I related more with the werewolf teacher because he needed accommodations at school and subsequently medication. As an adult, now I related with the Byronic shapeshifter wrongly convicted of terrorism who was totally the aforementioned teacher's BF because he's descended from a family with a history of actual real-world-style mental illness (or at least the author presented it as Actually Crazy) and he spent the last year of his life shacked up as a NEET failson with his shitty mother, though at least in his case she was just a painting. He's honestly a BPD icon (I will fight you) and thus one of the harder parts to let go of in terms of my remaining attachment to That Series Over There.
The other lingering attachment for me—in this case as cautionary mixed with "shit, really, I'm starting to think that character is cool?"—is focused mainly on David Tennant's character in the fourth installment. Okay actually, as much as I generally love Tennant and the energy he brought, the version in the books is the one that's really relatable (in the aforementioned "shit, really?" way) to me: also a mentally ill NEET failson with a fraught relationship with parents, but with the added element of sneaking around behind parents' backs and putting on a nearly year-long charade involving consuming a substance every day to change one's physical appearance.* Tennant is too manic and unsubtle in his menace; I prefer to headcast him as the closest British equivalent of either De Niro in Taxi Driver or Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler.
Oh and the other character from that series that I'm still kind of attached to is Bonham Carter's character. In this case it's definitely in a thirsty gay "I just think evil women are neat" way.
I am currently trying to transfer both my Wolfstar blorbo feels, and my ethically conflicted attachment (whether in a meowmeow way or a thirsty way) to villains, toward my own OCs, a number of whom are derived at least partly from depotterized AU versions of the characters discussed above. So honestly, the only other thing I want to mention on the subject is that, though the original context for the teacher's lycanthropy was just serophobia/ableism and homophobia mixed in a spectacularly nasty manner while the House of Black's history of mental illness was largely just dumb goffik stereotypes about evil families (with the occasional not-so-evil tearaway heir, like the Byronic shapeshifter), I admittedly feel I kinda do "gotta hand it to" She Who Must Not Be Named** for actually spelling out an explicit parallel between the teacher's lycanthropy and the shapeshifter's mental illness:
Teacher: Looking rather ragged, aren't we? Finally the flesh reflects the madness within.
Shapeshifter: Well, you'd know all about the madness within, wouldn't you?
*Thankfully, in my case that arc ended with me moving out on my own, instead of falling through a fucking curtain to whatever the wizard afterlife is, like the Byronic shapeshifter; getting straight-up murdered, like the werewolf and his similarly queercoded Manic Pixie Dream Beard; or having my soul eaten, like Tennant's character. Also in my AUs they're all WLW but that's just my own tastes.
**Or rather, whoever wrote that particular exchange in the movie. IMDb lists both She Who Must Not Be Named and Steve Kloves as screenwriters.

uugh yeah the FB movies actually make me feel better about the terrible fact that the books only two canon queer characters are evil / punished for their gayness. At least in the movies their love seems mutual, and a GOOD thing. Albus' love is shown in a genuine romantic/sympathic light and its the one thing humanzing aspect about Gellert. I'm just gonna pretend they somehow find a way, if Minerva can be both unborn and a teacher at Hogwarts then Grindeldore can pull off a double act as well lol
I was fucking astonished at how much softer FB3 was than any examination of Albus and Gellert’s relationship that we’d gotten up to that point. Somebody - not necessarily JKR, as we know she was unsatisfied with the third film to the point of not staying for the screening at the premiere, and both Steve Kloves and David Yates either rewrote her original script or fought with her to include details, but somebody - seems to be aware that what happened to Albus’s character in DH was gross, and tried to change it. He’s got a reciprocal, warm, soft relationship with Gellert! His brother is on speaking terms with him and not the bitter old man from the books! Everyone’s okay with this relationship, no one’s homophobic enough to talk shit to Albus’s face! It’s almost this apology for what came before? Even if Gellert is at his most WTF in this film, it gave me all that and I have no choice but to stan.

When did you start shipping hinny
A bit of backstory in my venture into HP. I saw an ad for the reunion special, and thought to myself "Why have I never seen Harry Potter?". I then bought a HBO subscription the same night and watched PS. And it was love at first sight. I then watched a movie a day for the next week. And I ordered the books straight after finishing DH pt. 2. Whilst I waited on the books, I found this concept called fanfiction. And I started reading stories, which caused me to fall deeper in love with the world of Harry Potter. And when the books finally arrived, I couldn't put them down. Ever since I finished them, I have had PPD(Post Potter Depression) and tried to drown that with fanfiction. Which has worked pretty well so far.
Anyway, back to the question:
I think it was during CoS.
Ginny being so awkward around Harry is brilliant. The way she runs out of the kitchen when she see him is adorable. The way he panics over her (almost) dead body. Ginny defending Harry against Lucius is also precious. Unfortunately Ginny didn't really appear before OOTP again, so I didn't really think about them all that much during PoA and GoF. (I will never forgive Steve Kloves for that.)
In OOTP I just couldn't get behind Cho/Harry, so I started looking elsewhere for someone to ship Harry with. The obvious choice had been Hermione, but she was clearly in love with Ron and her and Harry had zero romantical chemistry during those movies. Maybe it was a subconscious decision made during CoS, but I started shipping Hinny. I cherished the few scenes they had throughout the rest of the movies, but I didn't LOVE them, like I do now.
That wasn't until I read the books. And oh my, the movies RUINED Ginny Weasley. She is such an amazing character, and truly the perfect woman for Harry. And without a doubt soulmates. I wish we had gotten more scenes with them in HBP, but I will take what I can get. Their kiss was brilliant(fuck whoever gave it to Ron/Lavender in the movies). Their banter was fantastic(fuck whoever cut that out of the movies). Their obvious strong love for each other(fuck whoever ignored that in the movies.)
I can understand if people who have only seen the movies don't ship them. Because they are severely underdone, and not reading the books first will forever haunt me. But book Hinny is nothing less than fantastic. I love them.
And fanon Hinny, whew. That is even better. The way some of the authors write them is breathtaking. I can't put into words how glad I am for discovering fanfiction. I don't know how I would have coped with the rough patches that has occurred during these past 14 months, if I didn't have fanfiction.
Steve Kloves or whoever is to blame for movie Hinny, made me crave some good Hinny content so much, that I started writing it myself. And whilst I wouldn't classify it as good Hinny content, at least not the first few drafts. It still clenched that need for more good content temporarily.
This answer got a lot longer than expected, and turned into a rant about Steve Kloves. But thank you so much for the ask anon :D

Nothing makes my blood pressure rise like reading old articles criticizing Ron and Hermione’s relationship. This one in particular makes me want to scream and throw things. The author clearly has never read the books and falls victim to the horrible treatment of Ron’s character in the movies. (Fuck Steve Cloves with a capital F). Dammit, I need to stop doing this to myself.
