The thing that drives me insane about SPN is that the ending that would've worked best is the ending EVERY other fucking show wants to do even though it doesn't work for them.
Dean retiring from hunting and settling down, Dean and Sam going their separate ways to do their own things for a while, Cas becoming a regular dude to stay with Dean...it would've WORKED here because they DID THE WORK to make it obvious this is what the characters want and what would actually make them happy AND be good for them!
But no! I have to watch show after show of characters living the coolest lives imaginable go "welp time to stop all that and go be A Regular Person now," but the one time it would actually MAKE FUCKING SENSE they won't do it. Fuckers.

“It’s about the crew” and then cutting to a shot that Izzy is barely in, from a time before he was loved or accepted by these people. A shot that originally played behind his voiceover of distress and confusion from a time when he was being undermined and lied to, and was lashing out at the crew in return.
Not him saving the crews’ lives by standing up to Edward. Not him smiling as he stands on his new leg and reads the note they left for him. Not everyone dancing, happy and queer and FREE, as Izzy sings.
Cutting him out of their family — out of their reason for keeping on — before he’s even dead.

Me: "I know you're Jensen but I need you to pretend to be Dean right now." (His entire demeanor changed and he became Dean right in front of my eyes.) "And hug me like you'd hug Charlie so that I know you're alive. Because I need that."
Jensen: "Absolutely." (His eyes and voice were so soft like he truly, fully understood the gravity of what I meant.)
He pulled me into the hug, tight. Pressed me into him like he wanted to protect me from the world. Put his hand on my head and rested it against his chest, and held it there. I could hear his heart beating. No rebar has ever touched that heart.
Dean is alive and well. He lives in Jensen.
When we pulled away, he rubbed his hand on my back and I looked up into his eyes, and he was Jensen again. He looked so soft, so genuinely warmed by the hug. And then in that gentle, kind voice he has, he said "Thank you." As if *I* had given HIM a gift. As if HE hadn't given ME one. I thanked him, and he smiled.
I think he needed it as much as I did, and I hope he knows how much Dean is loved and missed.
Thank you, Jensen. For giving me Dean back. 🖤

“Dean’s eyes were still squeezed shut, but he was acutely aware of three things: one, his knees really fuckin hurt from that landing, two, the familiar smell of the bunker was filling his nostrils meaning their insane plan had actually worked, and three, Cas was back.”

i woke up out of a dream and that sentence was in my brain…

SAM BURNING DEAN’S BODY ALONE??? DEAN, THE MOST LOVING MAN IN THE WORLD, SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE WHO LOVE HIM ON ALL SIDES?
Nothing more heinous than trying to paint Sam as the only one who truly knew and loved Dean. Dean was SO loved. He deserved more and he HAD MORE.

Sometimes I think about how Dean was filling out a job application. I think about how he used to think his life was too chaotic and unsettled to have a pet, and then he got a dog. I think about how he finally understood that he wasn’t a ruthless killer. I think about how he stopped believing he’d die, too young, on a hunt. I think about how he finally started to hope that he could love a long happy life. Then I think about how that was all taken away from him on a cheap shot for shock value, and I get so incredibly angry.

i would like to take this time to thank Jensen Ackles and his portrayal of Dean Winchester.
without delving too deeply into my past, i just think Dean's character as a whole is so special to me because of it, and to see my internal monologues and battles painted into such a beautiful character after thinking these things were so ugly for so long is just... healing.
anyways time to go back to pretending the finale didn't happen! much love

So. Season 3 Dean can admit out loud that he doesn’t deserve the crap he got and that he doesn’t want to die. And yet we’re all just supposed to accept that season 15 Dean just gives in and has no problem with dying and doesn’t want to fight against the crap ending he’s getting? Mmm…kay…

Actually @mybrainproblems you have me reaching for my redacted-omitted-gunshots finale conspiracist tinhat again now because like. I look at all of Dabb's previous work and I look at 15x20 and I just think. Like. WHAT could possibly incentivize any writer, any storyteller, whether character or plot driven, to write an ending THAT horribly bad on every level for a show and character they put over a decade of work into??? And then I started thinking...what could possibly make ME do that? Is there anything?
And the first answer was no, but then the second answer was "someone else planning to do something even worse."
With everything we now KNOW is true about network interference and censorship of SPN basically from season 6 onward, with all those omitted script sections, with all the BTS details that were never, ever explained, and with the conflicting (but consistently so) reports from various actors and writers of different endings that got shifted/changed...I will never believe that any of the SPN writers, least of all Andrew "domesticate that masculine power fantasy" Dabb, actually liked or wanted that ending or thought it was in any way good. It's giving "mercy kill my child before the invading forces capture us" so fucking hard.

Things that keep me awake at night: the fact that they deleted nearly every mention of Cas after 15x18 including scenes they literally filmed. The angel with a goodbye that saved Dean's life and was planned from the very beginning of the season was left on the cutting room floor in the last 2 episodes.

I thought the first scene of s2e1, Stede’s dream, was supposed to be parodic. How silly would it be if Ed and Stede got back together without Stede ever explaining why he’d left! If Izzy was the only thing keeping them from a happy ever after! If they never had to confront and grow through the fears and flaws we’d seen in s1, and just got to kiss on the beach!
And then……… that’s literally exactly what happened. Complete with flash cuts back to that scene going hey, remember when this happened before??
It wasn’t parody, it was the sparknotes

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.
