just wanted to tell y'all abt KOSA. kosa (kids online safety act) is a bill that limit the amount of explicit content that kids view. sounds good, right? nope. the bill is written by a bunch of fucking bigots. so the "explicit" content includes LGBTQ+ & other minorities. that means they can sue the website for having queer content. so yk how ao3 shut down & we're all freaking out? imagine if the website was permanently shut down or heavily limited bc this bill was passed? & then they come after tumblr, tiktok, twitter, wattpad, etc.

i heard that Biden was interrupted in his campaign speech like 10 times yesterday and i went to listen to it but i had to stop because the crowd would always drown out the protesters. A protester would yell "how many children have to die in gaz-" and then be drowned out by "4 more years!" You think the same crowd that would have the "stop racism and islamophobia etc" signs on their lawns would not be so politically opposed to people who used their freedom to dissent publicly against a president who claims to support his "diverse constituents unlike trump" while carpet bombing said diverse constituents' relatives. Pro-biden and pro-trump supporters have the same cultish mind sets as trump crowds fuck them. Youre not allowed to criticize the president that exists in their heads the ones they made fan edits for and thought would "save america from fascism." and if youre busy trying to write a response to my post about how these protesters are "allowed to do what they do but they shouldn't protest in such a vital stage of the election year" may i suggest that you understand that there is no "moral" reason not to protest a president that is sending billions of dollars to weapons to destroy Gaza. If you cant find that defensible or brave then might i suggest you read the first amendment and complain there. Because at that point its all respectability politics about a president that is responsible for genocide.

For those worried about their favorite TV shows and if they would continue or not, while I completely understand your concern, do you know what you would continue to get if the WAG weren't striking right now? All of your favorite TV shows continue to get canceled after its first season cliffhanger to avoid paying residuals. Getting invested into a good show, but having it get canceled on a cliffhanger - leaving you with a hollow conclusion and a feeling that you wasted your time. Having to advertise, beg, and plead streaming services to renew your favorite shows. Spending all of your time making fanart, writing fanfic, creating AUs, and sharing gifs to promote your favorite show in order to find out that Netflix deemed it not popular enough for it to be renewed and canceling it due to pure corporate greed. I have spent the last two years seeing Netflix and everyone else do everything in their power just to avoid paying their writers anything above starving wages, and seeing all of my favorite shows suffer as a direct result of that. I have seen so many fandoms grow and then completely flatline the very moment it's officially confirmed that it's canceled. I know people who don't watch new content at all, or they wait until the entire show is available and concluded in full, specifically because the future of media in streaming services is so uncertain.

Your favorite TV shows were already facing a bleak and dark future before the strike. Don't believe the big studios when they say that the strike would cancel or delay your favorite shows. We got here in the first place because they were more than willing to kill good art in order to actively screw over writers.

Like, Steve's type has always been smart, passionate people, so what if as a freshman he's into a girl who's very political and (for Hawkins) left-wing. She just lights up when she talks politics so instead of exam talk and gossip, she spends the dinner portion of their dates explaining how trickle down economics is utter bullshit and the arguments against government spending are just thinly disguised racism.

And Steve pays attention because she's hot, and he learns because he's paying attention.

Of course the relationship doesn't last, and Steve keeps his mouth shut about politics around Nancy, because her parents are republicans and she doesn't seem to care very much. He's still 17 when election day comes around in 1984, but when his ex is home from college for the summer he helps her fold Mondale leaflets (at her house; Steve's parents would absolutely disown him for even speaking against Reagan).
