When your friend brought you home the other night, I didn’t see a coward. Just a man beat up too often and for too long, maybe. You’re not yellow. You’re just blue.

Had plans for what I was going to do tonight and then Fugue was on ITV3… oh my god, I love that episode. The acting is sublime and there’s so many amazing lines and interactions between the cast. The final scene with Thursday and Morse is heartbreaking and Shaun’s tearful face at the end overlooking the skyline of Oxford says so much…

Been having a bad time of the feels lately, remembered this and banged out an hour at the piano with Beethoven’s Tempest Sonata and I’m a bit better.
Thank you Fred Thursday and Russ Lewis

This is still one of my favourite Morse and Jakes moments - just because of how Jakes acts like a jealous sibling after Thursday says Morse will pick him up the next morning 💀

Fugue just published online my poem "In a Kingdom of Little Gusts and I Want Out." This poem is particularly close to my heart. I hope you enjoy it. Thankyouthankyouthankyou to Maggie Nipps, Reid Davis and everyone at Fugue!

I’ve heard of the “nerdy child mispronounces the word in adulthood because they learned it from reading”, but what about “the nerdy child can’t spell the damn word because they learned it by talking to the adults who used advanced vocabulary they preferred to hang out with rather than kids of their own age”?

I read the word. "Fugue," I say to myself. Pronounced exactly like "fugu," the Japanese word for pufferfish. "Wait, that's not right," I tell myself, "It's supposed to be pronounced differently."
"Differently how?"
"I don't know."
"Give me something."
"Ok fine. 'FWEEG.'"

I wanted to write a fugue again, and a few school friends and I give ourselves a monthly prompt to write to, and this month's gave me an excuse to write another fugue. I thought I would be so big brain and try to write one in the Locrian mode, despite a) being really rusty on writing counterpoint in general, b) being really rusty on writing in modes, and c) Locrian being one of the trickiest modes to write in convincingly because it doesn't have a perfect fifth.
Considering the time I spent on it I had fun. Please do not hold to the standard of shit I spend considerable time on. It doesn't quite sound like it's pulling to C as the mode center like it should, but hey I tried
