Translated Racing On magazine article on the Prince Tokyo Fujitsubo R33 Skyline GTR N1 racecar
Pics plus a translated article from a Racing On magazine on the Prince Tokyo Fujitsubo R33 Skyline GTR N1 racecar.
Translation below.
The range of modifications to the N1 regulations was expanded and the Super N1 became durable. 1996 R33 GT-R In class 1 where fierce battles were fought by the R forces, the title battle between two GT-Rs was entangled until the final race. Hit the spot on the platform, Prince Tokyo Fujitsubo GT-R.
It is known that the current Super Taikyu series started in 1991 under the name of N1 Endurance Round Series and has reached the present, but during that time it was called the "Super Taikyu Series" for only two seasons. Unexpectedly, it may have been buried in a valley of history. It was the first year of Super Taikyu's endurance, the 90th year, when the class champion was won by Tomohiko Ko and Hidenori Fukuyama. It was Prince Tokyo Fujitsubo GT-R. NI may have a strong impression that it is a vehicle with very limited modifications, probably because N is an image of normal, but it is actually an abbreviation for the national "N" and is the first in Japan. Means a standard. While the basic layout was completely unchangeable, many parts could be replaced on their own, so the top teams put more effort into scrutinizing the parts and incorporating different specs for each race. In addition, all unnecessary parts have been removed to reduce the weight thoroughly, and as a result of repeated work such as scraping to the tip of the bolt, the weight of the R33GT R is far more than 1500 of the base vehicle. It was about to drop to 13504, which is below. From these things, you can imagine how much the hand was. Also, except for the weight adjustment of the piston and connecting rod, the engine was not modified to the extent of so-called overhaul, but for turbo cars he is allowed to adjust the boost pressure, and the maximum output is squeezed out 450 horsepower. It is said that it was. The tires that catch this are Yokohama, Dunlop, and Oats (7 Toyo (Trampio).
The tire wars were unfolded and created a competitive edge. For that reason, Fukuyama looks back on those days and says, "He wasn't a car that an amateur could ride quickly and get on with." It was the brakes and he was the mission that required the most delicate treatment in the car. Because he had to use the brakes, he had to use the normal putt and outside the hose, and the mission was not allowed to be modified. As mentioned above, "Bar" was added to the series name this year, but the reason is that it is a heat countermeasure, and the addition of brake ducts, oil coolers such as differentials and missions, which are not permitted under normal regulations, are added. It was possible to install it freely, and the modification range was Nl + a. In addition, from the middle of this year, a capacity ab caliper and a large-diameter 2-piece rotor will be set as optional parts for the R unit. became . Although these changes were reported to have significantly reduced the burden at the time, it seems that he wasn't enough from the driver's point of view. Around the time of R, and for that matter, the fact that the R device was better than it was a year before its debut is now a more accurate expression, and a drama that seems to prove it will occur in the final battle. However, this will be described later. Now, let's talk about the Prince Tokyo Fujitsubo GT-R car and the boundaries at that time. R's debut was not a little in that year, and R33's debut match was deprived of R's victory, but from the second round, it started to make good progress, and from 1990. Is going into a one-make state of the R device. Although it decreased compared to the R heyday, the GT-R of nearly 10 cars was always competing for the fullness. To be precise, there was another rival vehicle called Mitsubishi GTO, which was unreliable despite the speed of one shot, and never beat the GT-R. The drama that was waiting for the final race At that time, the Brins Tokyo Fuji Acupoint GT-R was running because the Super N1 endurance in 1996 decreased from the R32 heyday, but it was always close to 10 GT-Rs. The championship was competing
It was affiliated with the same Nissan Prince store. I didn't care about it at the time, but it was done by a professional mechanic with only the involvement of the ment, and while the maintainer Alkene was reading the Nissan Prince Chiba GT R, which was sponsored and managed, the rival at that time was just the forerunner. The dealer team, which was less often involved, was the direct raceports section itself. Now, this time Chiba won the championship, and the opening race at the TI Circuit in Round 3 was the year-old Sendai Highland, where both Nissan and Nissan retired, but the second race was unfolding. Seesaw games between MIN Princes, but it's not hard to imagine that this year wasn't exactly the case throughout the season, but it's definitely not to lose. " I wonder if it wasn't there, because it was only ripe and strong, so I went to Prince Tokyo Motors Nissan Beads Motorsport Tokyo. In Kanto Prince Tokyo will grace the kit English and 4 year old Fuji Spi Hardway. Round 5 Tokachi Speedway 2 hour race with overwhelming mood, last 3 hours mission trouble In second place. Furthermore, in Round 6 of the Suzuka Circuit, the wheel nut broke when changing tires, and he was forced to make a pit stop for a long time. He gave his second win. And he said Prince Tokyo Fujitsubo GT-R, he challenged Sportsland SUGO in the final round as a point leader, but felt a disturbing mood. And as he mentioned earlier, he combined with the issue of braking and the reliability of his mission, and in Fukuyama's words he would tell him what the final race was like. "The gear broke immediately on behalf of Sunako from me. It broke often. At that time, I gave up and ran, but Prince Chiba, who was running at the top, right front) Brake rotor But it broke straight and splattered. I was able to get back what I was about to lose. We scored in the position, but we couldn't escape because we changed turns with them. We had the champion cup at that time. There are still broken rotor fragments in it (laughs). ”Looking back at the final race, even the team that was extremely fast and strong suffered from these troubles many times. Furthermore, Fukuyama looked back on the situation at that time. "At that time, there was a lot of drama. See-saw games and people turning around. If you pull out the performance of the car by 1 100% and it breaks, the driver will run at the last minute without losing time. Obviously unfinished and unfinished charm was really interesting compared to racing cars. There was a lot of competition. For example, tires. There were many makers, but I didn't think there was a big difference. I think. I was defeated. ”The driver may have said, but there was no one in the qualifying, but it was good in the race. Also, depending on the course, it was a good match. He was Toyo when we won his championship. In that sense, it was a good time for the tire makers to be well-proportioned. " "He was a little unpopular, probably because he was more luxurious than R, but I didn't dislike it, he was doing lithe movements, and the all-base became longer.
I don't know. The appropriate word to praise the car is the Barnacle GT-R, which is equipped with this car, which is Prince Higashi, which is as delicate and tough as it is. In that car, that's right. ”. After fixing it, I was able to avoid running again and returned to the bit, and the brakes barely turned the crash, but it didn't break! I couldn't get to the speed when I tried to rake up to the sound, so I just used the engine brake and put the car in the car. When the brake pedal reaches a depth of 200 ° C due to carbonization of the barrier, the heat of the oil seater is transferred to the caliber and the key is completely removed. The low rake was tough, and at one point it was a car with a break of 0 kg, so it was always a little heavy. 135 DETT This was a great machine, and when it comes to the appeal of the engine, "it was more than enough to supplement the RB250 brake, and it was still vulnerable around the time of the R33." The door of the ward that I liked, including the design

for the name ask meme: S Q U A L O
oh hey, it's been a while! i was actually just feeling nostalgic for khr, thank you.
S: How stealthy are they?
Squalo is not very stealthy. In fact, when he enters a room, he announces his presence to everyone with his loud demeanour. Some of his moves during battles are slightly sneaky at least, but that's about it.
Q: Are they patient?
Considering all the shit he puts up with from Xanxus, I'd say Squalo is actually pretty patient. Somehow, he manages to deal with Xanxus' outbursts without actually losing his own temper. I don't count him yelling as real impatience because that is just regular Squalo behavior. Squalo is very loyal and patient, despite the varia clowning 24/7, and I appreciate that. He may lose it because of Bel at times and then chase them around the Varia mansion but it wears out quickly.
U: What’s their voice like?
Loud and deep. But it does sound like he makes his voice a bit deeper than it actually is, imo. Maybe all the screaming affected his voice? Could very well be so. I would like it to be a bit more hoarse at times because of how much he strains it. He must have even lost his voice, a few times. Something the rest of the Varia would quickly make jokes about because it is very noticeable when Squalo is in the room but not partaking in conversation...
A: What are/were this character’s best subjects in school?
Pretty average grades as a whole but better than average in social sciences & physical education. Even if his behaviour in physical education had a bit too much force to it than the teachers would've liked....Sometimes causing accidental injuries to himself and others because of his intensity.
L: What is their favourite board game?
Hard to say? I have a hard time imagining Squalo being able to relax enough to sit down for a board game, especially one that's longer. He's so stressed. I don't think he'd like monopoly, but I can see Bel making him play with them and mammon and both of them getting mad at Mammon in the end due to how seriously they're taking it (and because of how good they are at it). It ends with Squalo flipping the board right before going bankrupt, if not earlier than that.
O: What would it take to break them, inside and out?
This is a hard one. I suppose losing one of the original Varia members would hurt him more than he'd let on. It wasn't very noticeable with Mammon's death, but I'm sure it affected him in some ways, causing him to help Bel in the dumb "kidnapping Fran to replace Mammon" plot. He knew Mammon is important to Bel but I like to think that he, too, felt that something was missing (other than just a mist guardian). Squalo would probably express a lot more pain on the outside if something happened to Xanxus, they're just closer to each other, despite their outwardly relationship. Hell, he kept his promise to Xanxus for 8 years when the Varia had no idea if he was ok or not. If he actually saw Xanxus die, I'm sure it would be the thing to break him. They both value each other, even if Xanxus is shit at showing it. His reaction when Squalo actually died in front of his eyes in the rainbow arc says it all though. They're friends and they care for each other, no matter the slapstick.

"What the fuckle is Shuckle?"
All hits point to Bulbapedia and/or the blog of the person whose idle speculations seem to be behind Bulbapedia.
Bulbapedia is highly speculative and lists several creatures that have traits in common with Shuckle, none of which look a damn thing like it.
Barnacle is one owing to the -ckle and -tsubo in its English and Japanese names, even though its Japanese name isn't a good portmanteau (fujitsubo, "barnacle;" tsubo, "jar;" tsubotsubo, "Shuckle;" it could just be "jar-jar").
No one has yet asked Sugimori et al what it is, though the thought has occurred. Or the record of such a question is missing.
-.-
Remember when people were dismissing the idea that Bulbasaur was a frog so it could be some obscure proto-mammalian reptile and then it turned out that the line's current/finalized designs were based on frogs? I keep this in mind whenever I read Bulbapedia.

You said once that Heian is a story rich with Tale of Genji intertextuality as it is Tsukihime intertextuality. From someone who hasn't read it, what other instances of this in action can you expand upon?
I might been missing a few pieces since it's been a couple years since I read Heian and a few years more for The Tale of Genji, but these are the parallels that stood out to me.
1/
I guess I should start by explaining what I meant in my previous post. So, The Tale of Genji is a heavy long-runner series covering from the circumstances behind Hikaru Genji's birth to the major events of his son's life after his death. And the major early chapters of Hikaru's life are about him courting many different women in an attempt to ultimately choose his wife.
You probably know that Hikaru Genji is a controversial figure. This is true in the story, to the people of the time, and even more so to the people of our time. And the main source of Genji's discourse is his arguably main wife, Murasaki no Ue. What's important to understand about Hikaru is that despite his divisiveness, Murasaki Shikibu's narrative voice always described him as the perfect man. That character is her ideal no matter how much the characters and readers disagree. And the first chapter, the one before Hikaru's birth, establishes that he is the perfect man because his mother Kiritsubo no Koi was the perfect woman. Lady Kiritsubo dies between the first two chapters and that's when Hikaru's quest for a wife begins.
One of the relatively early wife-candidates-of-the-week is Fujitsubo. Her gimmick is straight-up samefaceing. Fujitsubo is the perfect woman because she's somehow a palette-swapped second coming of Kiritsubo. Hikaru obviously wants her but his father obviously also wants her because she's Lady Kiritsubo 2, and it's the dad who gets her because he's the emperor while Hikaru is an illegitimate prince not in line for the throne. With their social status preventing a real relationship, the 18-year-old Hikaru Genji started his relationship with Fujitsubo's 10-year-old niece Murasaki, in whom he saw the budding image of a future new Fujitsubo (Kiritsubo 3?).
Tsuna's backstory in FGO Heian is pretty much all built on references to this character trio. Tsuna came across a woman described word-for-word as "beautiful enough to be taken as the Emperor's wife" and instantly fell in love with her but couldn't actualize this love due to social class differences. Later Tsuna meets Ibaraki, recognizes the woman's face on the younger girl, and is nice to her because he likes seeing "that face" happy. Tsuna's and Ibaraki's relationship can be interpreted as a non-romantic version of The Tale of Genji's main couple, but I can't shake off the grooming undertones that come from its inspiration, and even if I could, the idea of Ibaraki being used as a proxy for her mother is still creepy regardless.
2/
One important thing about The Tale of Genji is that it's the oldest novel we know of, so its earliest chapters were instrumental in popularizing novels as a format. For context, The Tale of Genji had a periodic release format, with each chapter being published as its own separate scrolls, so later chapters were published after the public had read the previous ones and their social impact was already tangible to the author.
One of the most memorable sections of The Tale of Genji (meaning more memorable to me specifically than generally notorious) comes in one of the middle chapters, I'll guess around chapter 25. In this scene, Hikaru Genji catches his wife Murasaki reading a novel. Hikaru parrots the time's popular opinion Genji-spawned novel trend: that prose is literature for dumb people and that only poetry has real value. Murasaki, as the character with the author's name would, verbally tears him apart with a big speech explaining what prose can do that poetry can't and how this new form of literature has just as much potential and value as the poetry classics.
In one of the first chapters when Kintoki's party is crashing at Murasaki's house, there's a similar conversation, where Kintoki tells Murasaki (author) about the things that a writer can do that a warrior like him can't, raising many similar points to Murasaki (character).
3/
Nagiko got a short section giving out her Tale of Genji opinions. It's mostly a repeat of her comments at her debut event's epilogue, but it is there. The whole motivation for her boss fight is that she loves the books' cheery and vibrant depictions of romance despite Hikaru being an unbearable character (based and correct).
Could be related to Hikaru Genji having too many love interests, in contrast to Sei Shounagon's very "one and only" views of romance.
4/
Speaking of a character's whole motivation in the plot, let's talk about Murasaki's. She's a funny character that gets a lot funnier with full context. The Heian Singularity/Lostbelt is set in a time when Murasaki Shikibu had already published many chapters of The Tale of Genji and caused a major cultural phenomenon. The whole capital was crazy to know what would happen next and this pressure gave her immense writer's block. So she fought in the Holy Grail War, risking her life for a chance to wish for the perfect conclusion to Hikaru Genji's story. She lost but Babbage gave her new motivation to write with her own hands the perfect conclusion that her perfect man deserves.
So? What's the conclusion Murasaki writes for Hikaru without any magical interference? You see, The Tale of Genji in its final form is comprised of 55 scrolls, each released separately as one chapter. The 42nd of these scrolls is Hikaru's death chapter. After 41 chapters deriving world-changing popularity, how did the genius Murasaki Shikibu close his story? With boldness and commitment to the bit. See, to Murasaki's authorial voice, Hikaru Genji is too hot and perfect. So hot and perfect that his death is too monumental of a tragedy to be possibly put into words. Thus, Murasaki published an entirely blank scroll and in the next one, Hikaru Genji was inexplicably dead.
Hikaru's death is my favorite thing about the Tale of Genji, not only for getting rid of the worst boy but mainly for the narrative power move that is still as insane writing for today's standards as it was back when it was published in the first novel ever. But this moment of genius is also a perfect thing to turn into a writer's block joke. Easily one of my best contenders for Sakurai's funniest joke.

A3! Event Story Translation “Ah, My Dearly Beloved” [ Chapter 2 ]
After reading a stimulating book, Azami goes to room 103 for consultance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Azami
Phew…
…Alright, get to reading already.
Manga
“What a woman——!”
“Lady Fujitsubo, won’t you reciprocate my love?”
“Oh, but I mustn't…”
Azami
T-t-this is too inappropriate!!!!!
I can’t believe I’m reading such a shameless book! This HAS to all be exaggeration, just for the fun of it…!
Sigh… guess I’ll just have to read the original…
Azami
*Knocks and enters*
Tumblr media
Gah…
Chikage
This would mark the second time I’ve seen that face.
Azami
Didn’t think you’d be here…
Itaru
Senpai, doesn’t he look like he hates you more than usual? Did you do something?
Chikage
Oh, but I haven’t a clue.
Itaru
Yeah, that face is giving you away.
Azami
…Itaru-san, are you free right now? There’s just this small assignment I’m struggling on…
Chikage
You’re better off asking Tsumugi with old Japanese literature.
Azami
Aight, but won’t Tsumugi-san be a little late today——.
Wait, how the hell did you know it was about Japanese lit!?
Chikage
When I caught a glimpse of you at the bookstore, I saw you holding a book with a cover that looked like a historical one.
Besides, you reacted when “The Tale of Genji” was brought up, so I figured…
Azami
What’s with my luck today…
Chikage
That’s the part where you should be praising my amazing deduction skills.
Azami
You just get more unbearable by the second.
Itaru
Let’s see, you have an assignment on “The Tale of Genji” and you want me to bless you with my guidance, right?
Azami
Not sure ‘bout that last part, but you pretty much got it.
I got told in class to read the first part by the end of the month, we have to submit a written report by then.
I can’t handle romance stories so I thought I’d cheat a little and know the context by reading a manga.
The story… was a bit…
Itaru
Gotcha. Must’ve been overstimulating for you.
Chikage
Well, pictures would leave more of an impact since they’re easy to understand.
Itaru
I don’t mind, but there’s a lotta kanji in “The Tale of Genji” that I don’t recognize, I’m not good at that wordy stuff…
I’m more of a STEM kinda guy.
Tsumugi’s good at HUMSS subjects, but he’s preoccupied with his side gig for a while…
Azami
S’that so…
Itaru
Azami
Chikage
Too bad, classics aren’t my strong suit.
Azami
Even if it was, I’d eat my fist before I ask you.
Itaru
I mean, I’ve read through it before, I can teach you some of it.
I just finished this event, how does right now sound?
Azami
Sorry for the bother, and thanks.
*Knocking is heard from the door*
Chikage
Didn’t know it’d be crowded during visiting hours today.
Azuma
You’re invited for a drink after all, you would have known about the visit.
We’ve got some VIPs coming, so you should say hello too, Azami.
Azami
VIP…?

"Even if others think I'm silly, or putting myself in danger, I'll always choose to protect children like Lambo from mean adults like you!"
id: Haru Miura from Katekyo Hitman Reborn drawn wearing pink kneepads and elbow pads. She's nearly on her knees, and has injuries on her face and arms. She has Leviathan's umbrella weapons pointed at her, and her face is that of determination despite the tears. She is surrounded by lightning.
Request by @fujitsubos for Haru as a temporary lightning guardian.
I think one important thing to remember about Haru is that in the beginning, she was 10000% down to outright kill someone she thought was abusing Reborn. I think her as the lightning guardian actually would've worked a lot better than what canon did simply because of the fact that Haru would always choose to protect a child, no matter how silly people think she's being. If she knew Lambo was going through something like this, she'd take it upon herself to go through a training arc (I think she'd do good with daggers rather than a bulky weapon) and fight Leviathan with just as much seriousness as Leviathan did towards Lambo.

Touken Ranbu:  The Contradictory Tale of Genji
Went in expecting fanservice and just a good time, left impressed.
Tumblr media
Part 1/3 - Plot:
The videogame source material has a very barebones plot because it knows what it is:  a gatcha game for fujoshi to collect sword husbandos.  Basically, something evil is trying to change (Japanese) history and make the universe implode.  You, the player, are an onmyoji or priestess who is summoning famous swords like mad to save the world.  The touken danshi themselves basically have the personalities of their famous historical figure owners or forgers coupled with quirks related to random facts and legends surrounding them.  Some come with a Hachiko streak from losing their masters or their service in some darker parts of history.  (only your love can heal them!). Classic gatcha game fare.  In other words, there is a lot of room to be creative with this framework.  Just look at all the sexy derivative works spawned from the thirsty fujoshi.  This aspect of the fandom is surprisingly relevant to the plot of the musical.  Stick around and find out.
Anyways, the plot of this specific show features a Tale of Genji crossover.  The usual evil is messing with history again and a squad of swords are dispatched to fix it.   The problem of the day is the entire Heian court has been isekai-ed into the novel Tale of Genji.  The author Murasaki Shikibu and her fans have all gotten merged with the characters of the book.  The Heian era swords are unavailable for vague reasons, leaving a bunch of young swords not forged in this era to untangle fact from fiction.
Thus, we start with team Kanesada finding themselves escorting a lady-in-waiting who explains that everyone around her has been suddenly larping Tale of Genji and she’s the only sane person left in court.  They realize they are trapped in the book and reenact all the early chapters as they figure out how to undo the curse.  Some of the more hot-tempered swords try to brute force their way out only to realize that book characters have protagonist halos to protect them from getting KOed.  At the center of this vortex, the titular character Hikaru Genji is effectively an NPC who has gained sentience a la RE:  Creators.  We learn he functions similarly to the sword boys as the embodiment of the book.  Not being a weapon, he can’t do much by way of fighting but he is unkillable and can act as dungeon master in his own story by transferring protagonist status to his victims.  In other words, Genji can possess targets to simulate his story as a substitute while he dicks off.  He uses this power to go OOC and try to retcon his own story.  This is all quite convenient for him since he has a complicated relationship with his author.  He is half reverential of her and half resentful.  This culminates in Genji ultimately killing his own author.  In the merged universe, Murasaki Shikibu and her readership have merged with the female leads of The Tale of Genji with Murasaki taking the role of the unobtainable Fujitsubo no Nyogo, Genji’s true love.  In breaking the story with literal death of the author, all hell breaks loose with Genji going rogue.
As the touken danshi dig deeper, they learn the source of this chaos was a result of toxic fan culture!  While many people enjoy Murasaki’s book and come away from it positively, a stalker fan voices his concerns that this is all vapid fiction with no value nor contribution to reality (the “wake up, loser” argument).  They debate about the point of writing “fake” stories.  While Murasaki understands the man’s point of view, she disagrees and refuses to put down her brush as this work is her passion.  The man becomes so upset he is taken over by the evil powers to cause the time rift and alter history.  His reasoning is if everyone is so obsessed with the book, they may as well live in it rather than face the real world.
Back in the present, the touken danshi are having a bad time resolving the timeline.  They complain about needing grandpa Mikazuki’s help and keep getting possessed by Genji to reenact chapters while he escapes to cause trouble elsewhere.  However, during the final boss battle with evil Genji, the isekai-ed fangirls come to the rescue!  As they reminisce about their love of the novel (well, it would be equivalent of a serialized magazine at time of publication) and how it was therapeutic or inspiring for their real lives, they begin to return to themselves.  Now it’s important to note that Murasaki’s contemporaries did write derivative works or helped her transcribe chapters to share.  Therefore, these fangirls are effectively ancient Japanese fanfiction authors and thus have power to end Genji as much as the original author does.  But they love him as a character too much so are unable to strike the finishing blow and basically toss the responsibility to young Murasaki, Genji’s second wife who he had kidnapped as a child to groom into the perfect woman.  Unable to bear the suffering and moved by the women in his life both as characters and as his fans, Genji lowers his protagonist’s halo and accepts death.  The touken danshi are able to finally fix history and complete their mission.  When they return to modern day, they hear news that archeologists have found physical evidence that Genji existed as a historical figure and thus a conspiracy theory is born!  The touken danshi take this information with mixed emotions.
What an amazing story.  The theme was deep without being too obtuse.  The climax got meta and opened a lot of discussion about the value of fiction, derivative works, the dangers of escapism, censorship, and even spirituality.  Definitely worth a second viewing to digest all this.
There was a mini-revue number in the end where the cast performed an umbrella dance to anachronistic Touken Ranbu music.  Then the cast descended a staircase in parade order for final bows.  It was a much-needed break from the heavy and complicated plot.  It was also a small nod to the main cast’s Takarazuka roots or hina doll staging, which is a common set design when using Heian costume.  The umbrella dance reminded me of the finale Sakura dance OSK does at the end of their performances.  Perhaps this is a proud Osaka tradition.  I haven’t seen a different Touken Ranbu show (yet) so I don’t know if this is a part of the brand.

i think it's right and good for kasen to be the centre of this because .
As himself, he'd admire and revere tama-sama, perhaps with the forever-imposed image of Mary looming over her . But as the carrier of tadaoki's heart, he retains that sliver of dare I say eros? Rather than the philial love. And guden kasen, even if he is a wooden doll in pale imitation of a human, nevertheless has the propensity to love. hes a fool for taking over genjis place as protagonist without a functional foolproof strategy, but that's his impulsive nature, so he dooms himself to the role, and he's perfect for it .... that's the reason why I believe we're shown kasen sharing that deep intimate embrace w aoi and their son, basically surrounded by women as genji is, whisking wakamurasaki away, even pleading fujitsubo to let him inside her blinds like she used to when he was little . amorous to the bone despite his story . and then we have ookurikara , next to take on genjis mantle ..... fraternizing with his best friend, the secretary captain, tou no chuujou, standing outside of suetsumuhana's residence saying he's sent her two poems but she hadn't replied to any, and the only time he's onstage as genji w all of the women he's looked at with scorn and they've all decided they'll all be better off without him........ very delicious loved by all / loved by none contradiction brought about by whether it's kasen or kara playing genji .

whoops, I mean, did Genji ever have sex with Asagao* and Tamakazura?
Tumblr media
Hi nonny! You're right, it’s sometimes hard to tell exactly which relationships are consummated in the text, because of the general ambiguity with which sex is talked about in the narrative (though we are left in no doubt that sex does happen, and frequently). An expert could probably give you better answers to this question, but here's what I think:
Asagao: no, I’m fairly sure not. It’s made surprisingly clear in the text that she repeatedly rejects Genji's advances, yet she still maintains an important place in his... mental landscape of women, let's call it. I suspect that, much like in the case of Fujitsubo, her unreachability is one of the things that makes her so alluring to him, thus suspect that he never managed to consummate. I also think that she occupies a large enough space in his mind that if he had managed to do the deed, as it were, it wouldn’t have passed by unremarked—particularly because she’s one of the women who makes Murasaki feel most insecure, so apart from anything else, it would have arisen in the text as a source of tension between her and Genji.
Tamakazura: hmmm well. She was living under Genji’s roof for several months, and he certainly did attempt to court her, but she greeted his advances with fear and aversion and was by and large protected from more overt sexual advances by her official status as his (foster) daughter. I’m going to assume that if he had succeeded in consummating, he would have given up the charade and officially taken her as his wife, instead of trying to marry her off to other illustrious suitors (including his own half brother).
I will say that the way that Tamakazura's sexual experiences are approached within the text is very interesting to me, because the one sex act we know for sure to happen, when Higekuro inflitrates her rooms and rapes her, leading to their unhappy marriage, is markedly absent from the text--and not just in the usual polite ambiguity surrounding matters of the bedchamber. There’s almost a black hole there. There’s no lead up, no courtship, and the narrative has been setting Tamakazura up to enter court. Then, at the beginning of the 'Makibashira'/'Beloved Cyprus Pillar' chapter, the state of affairs has drastically changed without warning: Tamakazura has been forcefully wedded to Higekuro under shameful circumstances that are only ever alluded to. The narrative jarr is really quite shocking--I remember I was quite confused when I first read it--and it really serves to emphasise the violence of the violation committed against her. It also interests me because Genji's own trespasses and sexual coercions are never portrayed with this much shock or abruptness, raising interesting questions--is the text excusing or downplaying his actions? Are his actions more 'permissable' than Higekuro's because he generally follows the conventions of Heian courtship (on the surface, at least)? Or is the contrast between the two meant to highlight the hypocrisy of Genji's position, and act as a commentary of the imbalanced power dynamics that underlie Heian gender and sex relations?
These are just my opinions, but like I said, it’s quite possible that there’s some firmer scholarly consensus out there about what passed between Genji and these women (though not necessarily in English)

TIL: Octomon’s “horns” are actually a separate barnacle digimon
Fujitsubo (フジツボ) means barnacle. I guess it’s a stalked/goose barnacle similar to binacle, except the stalks grow off the sides instead of underneath. At the least, I’m fairly certain there’s no barnacles that grow oni horns.

thought of Raikou and her heavenly king
I like Raikou a lot, but I'd be lying if I said anything to say about her. Out of all characters in Sakurai's recreation of Tsukihime, Raikou is by far the most derivative, to the point I really can't think of any Raikou character trait that isn't also present in Akiha. In fact, Raikou was the starting point from which I started noticing the connections that made the post above. For maybe 2 years, it was only Raikou=Akiha in my brain.
That said, Raikou was a very important personal step in my relationship with the other character. I don't think I need to anyone that, but Akiha is a very unapproachable figure and at least the original version of her route didn't help me at all with that. The first time I felt something positive about Akiha was when Hisui's route clarified the true nature of her relationship with Kohaku. For years, my take on Akiha has been "I don't like her individually, but I like her relationship with Kohaku", which is the one Akiha thing that Raikou lacks. However, as I found myself enjoying Raikou content, my reaction was obviously "Wait, I like Akiha now, actually".
My biggest hope for Raikou in Samurai Remnant is that the new context allows her to shine in ways that distance herself from her Tsukihime inspiration (and vice-versa as my hope for Red Garden) because I checked my tags for this and to this day I still haven't ever failed to mention one in a meta post about the other.
Kintoki for the longest time existed as a joke character and not one of the funny ones, as the protagonist of Heian, he's perfect. I love the idea of seeing a Heroic Spirit as a complete person secure of the ideals he stands for and then meeting his living counterpart in a period when the world he defended still leaves him lost and unsure of what he wants and cares for. I loved to see so much of Fate/Zero's Kirei reflected in such an ambiguously good guy, and I love especially Kintoki's relationship with Douman.
Tsuna I don't like. His role and backstory are quite well fit for Heian's themes, as just some guy who went so above his expected fate through the sheer power of caring, but Heian is a story as rich of The Tale of Genji intertextuality as it is of Tsukihime intertextuality, and I can't help but draw the worst possible implications out of Tsuna's backstory being meant to mirror Hikaru-gimi's relationship to Fujitsubo and Murasaki.
Urabe and Sadamitsu aren't in Fate/ yet, and honestly, I don't feel any need for them to be unless something super original is done with them. Urabe's fatherly archer archetype sorta overlaps too much with Tell, and Sadamitsu's only interesting legend is when he found the feral Kintoki and brought him to the civilization. Considering his initiative to take Kintoki to the human side, Sadamitsu could have potential as a character who actively wants to bridge the gaps between humans and non-humans whenever possible, but not in FGO, where the human and oni Servants are already sharing Chaldea's space without the need of his intervention.

I had the privilege of painting the new @citizenwatchus Promaster Mechanical Diver “Fujitsubo” for their booth at @windupwatchfair put on by @wornandwound and then it will reside at Citizen’s headquarters in NYC. This watch was inspired by a barnacle covered 1977 Citizen Challenge Diver that was found on a beach in Australia in 1983…still ticking. Such a fun one to paint and thank you for the opportunity!
