I've been going thru your and other ppl's posts on fujocourse and women's sexy media about men fucking vs gay men's sexy media about men fucking, and I was wondering if you've seen the movie "Fire Island"? I really thought it straddled that line in pretty curious ways. Like, it's a modernized Pride and Prejudice AU, and there's nothing more female-fannish and tumblr-ready than anything Pride and Prejudice, but it also carries the raunchy, uncompromising sort of sex-positivity that (modern) fandom circles would cringe away from, and depict a lot of gay man culture and behavior that fandom circles would declare "fetishistic stereotypes! no real gay man ever, real gay men want to be married with kids! no kink at pride!". And yet it manages to land all of it, combined with a sweet shmoopy romcom ending of Mr Darcy And Lizzie But Gay Dudes sharing that true love's kiss in the end. I really enjoyed it, and I enjoyed thinking about how outraged it would make certain fandom circles, while gay men reacting to the movie on youtube thought it was nice but too meta about the culture and not sexy enough.
Ofc The Gay Movie of the year in fandom is Red White and Royal Blue because that book and movie are factory made and assembled for fandom (has hollywood finally figured it out, bc if so they're bound to make a TON of money out of movies like that), but I thought it would be interesting to check out Fire Island as like, a control group thing.
--
I haven't seen it. Sounds cute.
There are certainly gay dude-made movies that have some overlap with BL-y type spaces. Latter Days comes to mind.

pretending that we have gender equality and acting like the rules are the same for everyone without taking history, power and context into account... I feel like I see it happening a fair amount among Youth on the internet and it's kind of infuriating.
like there are plenty of things that I think are a-okay for women and gender minorities to do and annoying at best when a cis man does it, especially a cis het man
a friend and i were just discussing how on Reddit, a scantily clad woman in public and a cis het male flasher in public will be treated as if they're both the same and that is effin bonkers
(tbf it's reddit, i know, i know)
but for a tumblr/fanficland example, I also see this with the fujocourse; its entire existence is kinda predicated on this

honestly I get so grouchy about fetishization fujocourse because if I wrote a fic just about the shit my husband gets up to on Grindr-- the stuff real gay dudes do-- it would be called hypersexualizing~

"my source is myself and millions of other mlm who've been harassed" lmao I wonder where all these other millions of mlm are in fact you know what I also can say I also totally totally know millions of mlm who /are/ pro-fujoshi and haven't been harassed. it would be an equally true statement to yours seeing as how neither are based in fact, and just hearsay from a source with no hard proof- just like yours. Get a new argument. Bring me actual proof such as screenshots and shit that mlm shippers are actually causing harm to a significant number of people and maybe just maybe I'll give your argument a chance

Teen girls liking M|M and why I support it
Acctually, lets stop with the "Teen girls are fetishising m|m" bullshit.
You will defend the crap out of a 17 year old guy because he is "just a kid" if he did something wrong but will not stop talking shit about an eleven year old watching yaoi anime.
"Oh but they are straight and cis and..." *You* don't know that! Thats a developing human trying different interests. Have you ever thought they didn't have any other experience with non straight romance before and thats why it's not 100% down-to-earth when they try to write it? Because, by your own definition, they are kids? Kids who are trying their best to be supportive and learn while creating spaces where they can enjoy thenselves without the media and the people around them putting them down. Straight romance treatment of girl characters is exausting so offen, can you blame them for wanting to escape it? Sometimes it's shit when none of the characters you are supposed to project into in love stories look or act like you, so longing for something that doesn't even resemble you can be good.
No one bats an eye when "unrealistic" romance media is made to teen girls if it's straight. No one cares if so much of this genre is about putting their viewers down. No one even cares about boys watching animes with girl characters that are just boobs, they are kids, they can learn. So what is the dang problem? That they are excited about it? Having a place where they feel liberated to gush about relationships that thankfully don't involve them and being able to put that distance between them and media?
And I'll say more. "Fetishising" is a sexual word. When someone says grown man fetishize lesbians is because they get of on it. It's all over p*rn sites and a lot of people have been harassed over it. A pre-pubescent girl saying 'OwO hot, they are cute' to a scene on a fanfic is not the same thing?? The few cases of couples being bothered by little girls I've seen online are weird, and mostly frowned upon by other girls with similar interests. You can't belittle a whole group because of it. They are young. Some people will accidentally go to far. It's normal.
I'm not cis nor straight, but I've not always known that. And I started watching BL because anime girls annoyed me but I'm such a big romance fan. That, and being in fandon, was my introduction to the idea that people aren't always straight, and I own so much of my journey on being on these accepting communities. Even If they weren't always 'accurete to the experience', too idealized or if we don't use the same terms anymore, to them being gay wasnt shameful or hatefull, It was good! Gay people were the heroes of these stories and were allowed to fall in love and be different in stories that were funny and cute. Maybe some stereotypes were prevalent, but I much more prefer what a well intentined 15 year old wrote with maybe a lack of research to what was on mainstream at that time. BL was unlike gay media of when I was youger because even kids could watch it.
And you know what? I did. I felt awful coming on this site and being accused of harming people that I wanted to support, but looking back, I don't regret it, because at least I'm here. And even considering some of the people I saw were straight, they were on my side, and that is more than some of us can ask.
It's ok to want your allies to treat you the way you want to be treated and It frustrates you if you feel like you are being idealized, but kids aren't perfect activists and groups aren't monolithic. Don't make serious accusations just to make people who most likely care feel bad.

Fuck you again
Some asshole said that he's 'superior' to fujoshi because he ships mlm and wlw pairings based on "deep mental connections" instead of "personal sexual fulfillment".
Fuck that bullshit mentality. There is absolutely nothing wrong with shipping and creating smut of fictional characters for no other reason than that you find them attractive. Sex is not tainted nor dirty and at the end of the day fiction is a toy to play with.

The fucking people on this site I s2g
Women writing/reading queer content isn't fetishizing, get over yourselves
And if your response to a woman saying she likes male insert better than female insert stories is to tell her you'll "shove your cock up her ass" because you think she's fetishizing men, then you need to seriously reexamine your priorities, and maybe stop sending rape threats to strangers in the internet just because they disagree with you.
If you're so against fetishizing queer people, talk about the fact that the porn industry has entire categories of lesbian content that caters specifically to the male gaze.
Y'all don't blink when men to ask women to make out with each other, when men constantly talk about how hot lesbians are, when men ask lesbian couples to include them in their sex lives.
But the SECOND a woman on here says "I like m/m content more than m/f or f/f" y'all start harassing her and sending rape and death threats.
Thinking it's okay for men to do something while harassing women for doing an extremely toned down version of the same thing is literally just misogyny. Get over yourselves.
Anyways this blog is, has been, and always will be, pro fujoshi.

once again saying that about 90-98% of "anti-fujoshis" ("fujoshis" isnt even a real word but i digress) are transphobes, terfs, radfems, or young people who have been brainwashed by the above!!!
there's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying mlm content (no matter how "gross" it is) even if you aren't mlm yourself!!
its not progressive to hate people you assume to be cishetallo women/fem-aligned people just because they're writing fanfiction or drawing fanart!!!
big reminder that many people who engage in fandom question their sexuality and gender and being able to explore these topics vicariously helps a lot!!
even if they arent exploring their identity, its an asshole move to say they can't do it because of some innane reason like theyre women!!
Big Oof: demonizing people you asume to be women or fem-aligned people because they enjoy BL content makes you the same (if not worse) than the misogynistic 4chan users who originally coined the term "fujoshi" (woman too tainted to marry)!!!!

Hello olderthannetfic-sensei!
I discovered your blog after I learned that my worldview counted as "proship" and that meant a lot of Tumblr (ostensibly) hates me and wants me to do terrible things to myself. I've been doing my best to understand the opposition's point of view, and I keep coming up short, so I thought I'd ask and see if you can point me anywhere helpful.
Do you happen to know what anti demographics look like? Am I mostly dealing with actual children, or are most of them older? The only antis I've dealt with personally have been trans men- at the risk of upsetting the trans community, are trans-masc antis common? Is that where most of the anti-fujoshi blowback is coming from? Also, where did all of this originate? I've heard it came from the Voltron ship wars, but I don't know if that's accurate.
How do they define their own views (when they're not being tantrum-y children)? Is there anything more concrete than "we are decent people calling out the bad ones?"
Thank you for reading this, and whether or not you respond, I hope you have a good day.
--
The stereotypical anti is American, like 22-24, genuinely worried about social justice, but also cripplingly anxious and surrounded by other people with little life experience. they have a completely understandable terror of growing up into this job market/environmental crisis/world, and no clue how to fix anything other than by lashing out at people on the internet. They've unlearned queer=bad without unlearning the underlying queer sex=bad messages their generically conservative upbringing instilled in them.
But, of course, antis come in all ages and a variety of backgrounds.
Yes, trans-masc antis are common, but that's more because of the demographics of fandom than because it's a trans thing. You'll find plenty of salty trans-mascs responding to posts here and telling antis where to stick their nonsense.
Some of the favorite anti talking points easily trap m/m fans who feel they like m/m "a different way" from "those annoying people over there", but this includes queer women. The arguments from other types of queer people echo the trans-masc arguments.
"I found my special place for me where I finally felt safe and seen and now YOU PEOPLE turn out to be here too, and I cannot deal!"
That's what it all boils down to. People want BL to be for them and they perceive something or other as threatening that. There are antis who froth about het or other parts of fandom too. It's not all the fujocourse.
--
No, antis did not spring fully formed from the brow of Voltron fandom. They've been around for years, and the modern upswing was already getting going even aside from Voltron. It's a famously wanky fandom, but it wasn't alone.
The term 'anti' was originally self-applied, but by now, most antis think it's something others force on them. They self define as "normal" (yes, using that word). No, there is nothing more concrete than "decent people calling out the bad ones". Most anti rhetoric isn't that clearly thought out.
I'd go read @fiction-is-not-reality2's back catalogue for posts about the development of the term.

Lesbians and bisexual women who consume and create m/m content are not fujoshis. Gay trans men sure as hell aren't fujoshis. I mean, even cishet women who interact respectfully with m/m content aren't fujoshis. It refers specifically to cishet women who only consume and create m/m content because they view it as something sexual because it is taboo and don't care about actual gay men, along with blatantly hating gay women. We cannot go around accusing every woman but especially wlw who makes m/m content of being a fetishist and we can't do it to trans men either. We cannot dilute what the term fujoshi means and the severe homophobia that mindset is rooted in.

FUJOSHI PRIDE FLAG!
The pink represents the cishet women who are fujoshis!
The blue represents the gay couples they fetishize!
The guillotine represents the immense harm they do to the mlm community and our great desire for them to stop fucking clowning!
