The idea of pink haired Sylvain has hung around me for a good while now, so I commissioned @fulgurbugs to make him a reality! Turning it into a slightly Sylveth piece was my own indulgence <3

Fulgurbugs was amazing to work with as always! I cannot recommend them enough. They got the coloring exactly right on Sylvain's new hair and dealt with my various "Wait actually can you change--" messages.

I got another "Desmond gets turned into an animal" idea(got a few more im saving up). XD

What if he got turned into a Zinogre from Monster hunter? I think he looks pretty cool and with the lightning abilities he could come off as almost divine, summoning lightning to punish the evil.

And Stygian Zinogre has the assassin colours if you wanna do that. ^^

I just spent 20 minutes trying to find this "Desmond as a monster hunter creature" post but @saberamane and me thought of a few different other Monster Hunter ‘bosses’ that Desmond could reincarnate as.

Ngl, I don’t know Zinogre all that well because we didn’t farm it that much when my childhood friend and I were playing Monster Hunter Rise but it was pretty fun to fight (mainly because we got a Kulu-Ya-Ku caught up in the mix and monster fight is always fun).

Anyway… so this one actually usually have Fulgurbugs that helps charge up its lightning attacks.

They usually look like fireflies and can be seen in Zinogre’s opening movie in MHR.

Sooo… how about Desmond as a Zinogre pup when Altaïr first finds him and he grows up to be as large as a usual Zinogre (and maybe it evolves into a Stygian Zinogre later on?).

And when Altaïr died, Desmond gains his first Fulgurbug.

Each time one of his ancestors died, he gains one more Fulgurbug until…

According to the legends compiled by Arno Dorian who had seen the legendary beast of the Assassins, he was always followed by five ‘fireflies’ bigger than any firefly Arno had ever seen.

Or… if you really want to make Desmond all the more divine. He’s always surrounded by Fulgurbugs and they’re not just the main five (Altaïr, Ezio, Ratonhnhaké:ton, Edward and Haytham), it’s every ancestor that have died.

So the small balls of light surrounding the Zinogre? They’re actually Fulgurbugs which actually makes Desmond be the strongest Zinogre because of how many seemingly immortal Fulgurbugs he has with him at all times.

If they made an Octopath TV show or something, what order do you think they would go in? Personally, I think it would have to go Cyrus -> Therion at the very start, since Cyrus is the most likely to assist Therion with breaking into House Ravus, and if we started with Therion he'd probably never recruit anyone else

Like the easy obvious answer is that it goes in OCTOPATH order, Ophilia -> Cyrus -> Tressa etc. Cyrus -> Therion to start isn't a bad option either, but in my opinion idk if it'd matter if we started with Therion because I think people would join him whether he wants it or not. Oh you don't want Haanit to help?? Too bad. She's coming and so is her murder cat. You want Alfyn to fuck off??? Good fucking luck dude once he decides you're his friend he will never ever ever leave you alone

If I had to pick like...the ideal way to do it. I kinda like the...not quite non-linear? Idk what the word is but like...the fact that there isn't one singular main character the story focuses on at once would work differently in a non-interactive medium, right? Like- different characters are the focus of different episodes, maybe it takes time for everyone to meet everyone else, it still COULD go in OCTOPATH order but it could easily turn out something like how @fulgurbugs has her Duopath comic where two characters are following their specific plots where they are but the others are still very much there, but off doing things elsewhere. And maybe it switches around! Very much seems like it could be a golden opportunity to play around with perspective and tone and dynamics.

and for GODS SAKES have a few episodes where the plot doesnt necessarily advance but we get some good breathing room character studies. Watching 90s Trek makes me miss the days of tv shows that are not constantly making the journey from point A to point B and instead like to occasionally meander and explore things. lets get an episode in the frostlands where everyone's snowed in. let's have some comic relief/character driven episodes where Tressa is doing some ferengi merchant nonsense. Have Therion go through some stuff to build trust with the team so we can like see it happening instead of just filling in the blanks in our minds (as fun as that can be)

This is sort of a part 2 to this post about the fanged wyverns

Zinogre is a REALLY polarizing monster to me. I like pretty much everything about him, but only in a vacuum. So, I redesigned him to fit in better with the more grounded design of a lot of other monsters, and go more in in making him the wolf monster.

Changes I made:

- Reclassified as a fanged beast instead of a fanged wyvern. Explanation for why is in the previous post.

- Usually pack hunters. The ones we fight are separated from the rest of them, as hunting more than one at a time would be stupid.

- There are multiple factors behind the fulgurbug symbiosis. For the Zinogre, they can use them to help hunt their favoured prey, both directly using their electricity and using them to set traps. This saves a lot of energy for the Zinogre. It also acts as a deterrent for larger predators, such as the Raths, but as this allowed Zinogre to get bigger and bigger, this has become less of a factor. For the bugs, they are incredibly tasty snacks for a wide variety of animals that Zinogre like to eat, and therefore bond with them to stay safe.

- Colour scheme would be a bluish green with goldish brown patterns for the softer fur on most of their body, and silver for the bristly electro fur. The electro fur folds down when not being charged. I tried keeping the forelimbs large and beefy, but toned it down a bit. Also not happy with how the paws turned out, might make them look more like a wolf's.

- I'd make them a little bit smaller than the Zinogre we have, but mostly from shrinking the tail.

Will probably do Tobi Kadachi and Lunagaron as well. Probably won't make an entire post for Odogaron, as I think his design is just about perfect, even if he was a fanged beast. Tobi Kadachi is also pretty solid on the ecology part, so it would just be a visual change. Magnamalo, again, might just get ignored by me, but if I think of something I might do him.

I'd also like to apologize for if this comes across as too negative. I really like Zinogre, I just find him to be WAY too overdesigned, and to have questionable ecology. I just wish for Monster Hunter to stick closer to its more grounded and natural design philosophies.

My friends have gotten me big into Monster Hunter lately and my ADHD brain randomly popped out a G-Witch/Monster Hunter AU; constantly in flux but the most concrete idea is Suletta as a Rider instead of a Hunter, paired with the Zinogre, Aerial - Suletta uses an Insect Glaive but instead of a Kinsect she can use Aerial's fulgurbug swarm. Riders were supposed to have been driven out due to superstitious persecution but have remained hidden until the beginning of this prospective story. Miorine desperately wants to do field work but Delling keeps her sequestered in either Botanical or Ecological research (not sure tbh). Through similar shenaniganery as canon she makes the case to act as Suletta's Handler. May post more later.
