happy to report that scavengers reign completely nails the body horror and psychological horror and has a SUPER awesome setting that makes it all feel believably horrific and beautiful at the same time. the planet is functioning perfectly but sadly for the survivors on the planet its quite fond of merging things together! which is! not pleasant for humans!

This has been sitting in my sketchbook for a while gathering dust. I was intending to line/color it digitally, but with school going on that might take a good bit longer to actually happen. Might as well share the sketch in the meantime.
I've talked about this vaguely before but I think, despite their extreme differences, Ed and Double D have a certain overlap in their interests. Ed likes gory horror/sci-fi media and the concept of monsters/mythical creatures/aliens etc. Double D likes bugs/arachnids and isn't exactly skeeved-out by descriptions and depictions of less than stomachable medical ailments. Ultimately when hanging out these subjects will pop up on the frequent. Ed likes grotesque stuff and Edd knows a lot of grotesque stuff that people don't typically like to hear about. This means a fun time for them...excluding Eddy...

also linda saying that she and louise don't have a lot of things that they do together "and this one i didnt have to force" reminds me of in season one when she said that gene and bob aren't always so good at father-son bonding and they dont have a lot in common :( Not much commentary there it just reminded me of that. but in later episodes bob and gene did find a lot of things to bond over like their love of music etc

Ruidus history, new species and more information about how things worked before all the craziness started, after so many centuries under the same "rulers" it's quite incredible no one succeeded in defeating them but the resistance as it is now could be recent because they put a great effort in controling everyone there in more than way.
There's many questions that come with every answer but I'm so glad that they're able to ask all they can about everything.

With Mayuri's predilection for psychedelics and undermining his opponents, I think the Pernida fight would've been so cool with mushrooms.
Like.
Mayuri messing around with rate of decomposition of a mushroom to counteract Pernida's physical drawing of reishi which he would've started formulating from his extensive knowledge of Quincies reishi absorbing abilities before he necessarily knew Pernida was doing so physically. And better yet, using a certain mushroom to basically treat Pernida like a big old cancer growth. (Like, cue big, wide smile as Mayuri reveals the reishi that Pernida has been absorbing is the reason his advancement is halting. Because he would use that mushroom JUST to say that)
I don't feel he would need to win and would love to see him lose, but I think it just would've been even more fun--for me--and crushing--for Mayuri <3-- if he would've actually applied his exhaustive knowledge of quincy to the Pernida battle if only because he was under the assumption that he would be exclusively fighting quincy in the big quincy war. Don't even think he needs to recognize Pernida as a quincy early on even!
Honestly, appalling that Mayuri doesn't have more canon dabbling with mushrooms. Like using altered cordyceps in his fight with the zombies?? Creating a horrible malformation of a coffin mushroom that decomposes Giselle's zombies in 3 minutes rather than 3 years...................AH.
I feel like it would've fit TYBW more than the weird fantasy thyroid thing that hardly made sense and had me squinting for 15 minutes trying to cobble together even that vague description--fantasy thyroid thing--when reading descriptions of how Mayuri was using Nemu to beat Pernida and reviving Hitsugaya & Matsumoto.
Also, he would still get to make people trip balls and question their sanity, which is part of his pyramid of fulfillment.
ALSO roots and spores are very convenient when trying to bullshit that Mayuri was actually doing something All Along when he definitely was not.

Watching tmnt 2012 for the first time. I feel like I'm either tripping balls or witnessing nightmare fuel every episode.

I love the idea of Mia doing everything she can to be the best single mother to Rose. I like to think that they were really close when they were little.
They had tea parties, they made blankets forts, they baked together, they played with toys together.
They had no idea how hard it was for her mother until she started getting older, and noticing things. But she never wanted to talk about, especially since she would be too young to understand it. Maybe when they were older, but even then she was scared to. The most she’d say is stuff about their father was that he was a good man and would’ve loved her, or that he died to protect her. Classic “he’ll always be with you” type stuff. She always tried to guide Rose in a direction that so that they’d never make the same mistakes she did in life.
She always doubted herself in her abilities to do this alone. Of course, she wasn’t alone, she had Chris for support and help…but it still didn’t change the overall feeling of not being cut out for motherhood. Since Ethan died, confidence was sort of sucked out of her. He was her guide though, the fact that she knew he would tell her to keep going and not give up, to try her best.
In the first few years she was really struggling to hold herself together. There were so many moments where she just completely broke down behind closed doors. One day Rose saw her and tried to comfort her, but being 3 years old she didn’t exactly understand what was going on.
Rose didn’t grow up with much exposure to other kids due to living under protection but eventually she was able to go to school. Mia was super worried about how it would go, but she at least wanted normalcy in their lives. She and Chris weren’t happy about the bullying at all (obviously. They were pissed), and at one point Mia sat down on the couch with them to talk. Rose kept saying bad stuff about themself, and it really hit deep for her to hear, and also had a lot of self hatred. She wasn’t the best at lifting people up anymore, but she made sure to never let them believe those awful things about themself. To shower them in support and validation.
At some point Rose either went to boarding school or to live under stricter protection. It’s not exactly clear, maybe a combination. Mia didn’t want her to go but she didn’t really get a say in it. Chris is probably their link together since it’s likely he sees both of them, but probably Rose more. Maybe they were able to call each other on occasion, but it still felt rather isolating.
Needless to say, Mia still has all of Rose’s old toys, some of her clothes, and even her old bedroom…hoping that one day she’ll come back, perhaps once she’s older.
