#some people enter the story as a villain and want to NOT DIE #and others are isekai'd as background filler that just want the character they love to live and be happy #there are plenty of examples of this trope but i thought it would be funny to throw derelict favourite on there T-T #like bro there are legendary tier stories and comparing them to the regular ones in the genre is so so funny to me #compares solo leveling to like. spare me great lord #the difference a male vs female lead can make in comic content is sooooooo funny #like yeah the plots are like 80% the same tropes over and over #but that just makes it very funny #it's not a surprise that the romance genre in manwha tends to have fem leads but it is very funny #if you look for a male lead the universe stares into your soul and asks if you are looking for yaoi #XD #omniscient reader's viewpoint is enough romance for me #male leads that have no romantic interest and actively try to stay away from romance subplots in their isekai'd world are superior anyway #💥🦅🔥

Mmm, yes, the Phineas and Ferb Marvel crossover episodes were better than Infinity War and Endgame.

Doofenshmirtz shooting the villains with waffles which was not only funny but an effective tactic?!#6. Baljeet Hulk #7. Candace writes marvel fanfiction #8. Stan Lee being the equivalent to the cabbage merchant #9. The villain song and dance number where Doof is leading them around getting them to commit petty crimes and they slowly die inside #10. just generally the marvel villains having to seriously go to Doof. Evil Inc and get his help albeit VERY begrudgingly #11. the humor was on point and actually clever #12. did I mention Perry being a superhero #like seriously when will marvel ever have the guts to make a platypus a superhero?#anyway #point is it was funny I had fun this was enjoyable and lighthearted and I miss when marvel was like that too #ah well #at least it spawned stuff like this

personally, re: hyewon's character, i don't think there's much to dislike about her. conversely, there's also not much to like - the issue is that she has little to no presence in the drama. her one on one conversations with taeoh are the most personality we get from her, and she appears for maybe two minutes in episode 4 alone. for the supposed female lead, her screentime, lines, and everything else are more befitting for a tertiary or secondary character. and when she's on screen, her appearance is bland and forgettable to a large degree, which i think is a mix of bad writing and perhaps more inexperienced acting (though i think it's kind of unfair to compare her as a new actor when she's starring alongside someone like ljw lol). the writers have failed to properly develop her character - some of which i think is intentional, but also, we're four episodes into a twelve episode drama and i still don't know what she wants or even what she does?

Am I the only one who feels like the Oppenheimer movie (aka the movie that should be starting conversations about the US's war crime of the mass murder of thousands of Japanese civilians but isn't) would not be getting nearly as much media attention and therefore ticket sales if it weren't for the Barbie movie and actually I think that's a little bullshit that the war centric "guy movie" gets to ride on the coat-tails of the "chick flick" and people are just gonna give it their money for the lols and the clout and artificially inflate its ranking in movie sales history? Yeah the Barbie movie is corporate propaganda but this is still a nation where kids are taught in school that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were razed to the ground in a justified act of "necessary evil." Fuck Oppenheimer.

did you miss anything in the heians fic? i don't think you missed anything in the heians fic. or if you did miss anything in the heians fic i don't know if it is anything that is necessarily of interest to anyone but me? y'all, i went in way too hard on this fic. the amount of research i did would infuriate and dismay you. and in all fairness i was being metaphorically swung around by the ankles and thwacked against a wall at work at the time of writing it, so i kind of had nothing else to do but get a little annoying about historical references, but. y'know. @ me maybe make it about samurai next time or like something people care about.

oh, here's a thing i guess—i kind of liked my rendering of the one historical poem presented in full in this fic, Michitsuna no Haha's poem of the barred gate. in Edward Seidensticker's translation:

Do you know how slow the dawn can be when you have to wait alone?

and in Sonja Arntzen's (superior) rendition:

Sorrow, sorrowing when one sleeps alone the time until night opens into day, how long it is perhaps you now know it too.

like DAMN Sonja. that hits DIFFERENT. but at the same time having decided to not commit to the 5-7-5-7-7 meter throughout because i'm too fucking lazy i wanted to keep the flow of the poetic exchanges less formalized and more conversational as they would have felt in real heians time, i wanted to compress the feeling Arntzen captured into something a little pithier like Seidensticker's version. (but less stupidly phrased. "how slow the dawn can be"? like my mans, surely "how slow the coming of the dawn" makes more fucking sense.) hence:

How long and chill the night when one must sleep alone—perhaps you understand it now!

and yes, i lost the "opening" imagery that plays on the barred gate, and yes, maybe i added in some meteorological allusions that weren't in the original, and no, i still don't speak any japanese and am just going on vibes, SORRY I KNOW THAT MAKES ME JUST LIKE ARTHUR WALEY WHICH IS DISGUSTING OF ME, but idk. all things considered, at the very least i think mine reads a leetle nicer than Ed's.

and additionally, here's a secret: i kinda fucked up my shinden-zukuri architecture in the first section frankly. there's no real reason why the lady of the house would be hanging out in the hisashi alone in the middle of the night while her ladies-in-waiting are asleep in the moya. i guess you could handwave it like "ohh she stayed up waiting for Kaneie ohhh she couldn't stay in the inner room with all those people ohh Desire was simply doing some fuckshit" but like. get real. be serious. why would she have a brazier out there? why would she call it "my rooms"? (i guess there's an argument to be made that by "my rooms" she's referring to her entire wing of the house but still.) she's practically NAKED hanging out out there fully dressed in multiple layers with the screen slightly cracked. UNACCEPTABLY whorish behavior.

fucking intolerable. i'm humiliated. this is worse than the poems not scanning in a language i have never studied and do not speak. Sonja Arntzen is en route to my house to visit unspeakable horrors upon my person at this very moment. and it's like noooo, Sonja, please, i'm not even a heians scholar, spare me and i'll help you hunt down Royall Tyler instead!! but she doesn't care. she just. doesn't. care.

call me weird but I think rom-coms without the forced "hate each other but also wanna fuck each other" chemistry (let's be honest, there's some where it's such a stretch it's ridiculous) and without the "love interest does some sketchy as fuck shit that should really have this story end with a restraining order or is entirely stupid/offensive but gets played off as The Most Romantic Thing Ever" can totally be great.
