~FLASHBACK~
Nachi : "I guess...I think I'll stay here..."
Nachi's decision surprised Futaba very much, as she knows that Nachi always stays by her side and goes with her anywhere, claiming that he wants to protect her, but later she realizes the reason.
Futaba : "Nachi, I told you before, you're not to blame."
Nachi : "The Oni got to this state because of my recklessness, the least I can do is to stay by his side until he wakes up.”
He said and heaved a trembling sigh, his gaze directed to the ground, for some reason refusing to meet Futaba's eyes.
Nachi : "If he didn't- if he didn't interfere-"
Futaba : "If Koga hadn't intervened at that moment, you would've taken his place now."
Futaba interrupts him while looking at him with a serious look, Nachi raises his head and looks at her surprised by her response, so she continues.
Futaba : "Your fate wouldn't be different from Koga's if he hadn't intervened to save you. Blaming yourself will never solve anything, Nachi."
Nachi : "I'm fully aware of that but..."
Futaba : "I'm upset because Koga's current fate is unknown. Who knows what might happen to him in the coming days? But at the same time, I'm glad that things are finally over."
Futaba tried to motivate herself after the crisis ended despite the result, trying to put on her usual smile, strengthening her spirit, pretending that it wasn't that bad and that things would get better. Nachi noticed how upset she was but didn't force anything on her and decided to go along with her.
Nachi : "Okay. But- be very careful, if you get into any trouble I'll know and I'll come running to you. The oni may not be around right now but don't worry, your bodyguard will stay by your side even if he's away."
Futaba : "Haha, alright."
~FLASHBACK ENDS~
...
This conversation lingered in Futaba's mind for a long time, letting her feet lead her instead of the other way around. To find that she has arrived without realizing at her house, but she's surprised by the presence of two entities standing in front of the door.
Futaba : "Father and...Fukajiro?"
It was just whispered words but yet one of the two entities could hear it, Fukajiro turns to the other side and finds Futaba standing there. Her face lights up after seeing her friend, so she runs up to her holding her with her short arms. Futaba didn't react this time, it seemed like she was getting used to Fukajiro's habits.
Futaba : “Fukajiro, I'm so sorry I ran off and left you in the middle of the street for no reason.”
Fukajiro : "No need to be sorry. Your father told me the tale and I'm sure that article is a complete fibs."
Fukajiro looks with her emerald eyes into Futaba's eyes and adds to that look a small wink, trying to ease up on her friend. For some reason, Fukajiro's words comforted Futaba a bit, even though Fukajiro didn't know what was really going on around her, so Futaba patted Fukajiro's little head, stroking her brown hair that reminded her of the wet soil after a rain.
Fukajiro : "If you want to bring out what is in your heart, know that I'm always at your service."
Fukajiro kept looking at her with her emerald eyes refusing to untie her arms from Futaba hugging her more, while Futaba looked back at her and got a feeling...Her words sounded familiar, similar...warm...
Furaba : (She reminds me of him...)
That's what was going through her head after hearing what she was told, a bitter smile on her face still stroking Fukajiro's brown hair.
Futaba : "Thank you Fuka, I was in need to hear this today."
Fukajiro : "Why friends then?"
Fukajiro seemed to take the friendship between her and Futaba very seriously, going to her house to check on her and give her motivational speech despite her young age. After an exchange of words between them, the two friends said goodbye to each other and went their separate ways.
Several days have passed since the incident, gossip and rumors about the collapsing phenomenon have disappeared during these days. He was standing in front of his house's doorstep looking at the road left and right. It seemed as if he was impatiently waiting for something or someone, but what he was waiting for didn't appear. Sad expressions appeared on his face, as if he was about to cry.
"Masanobu. It's cold outside, come in before you get sick."
The mother calls out to her only child, Masanobu, who responds with only a simple nod but turns back to look outside, hoping that whoever Masanobu was waiting for will come but didn't...
That day Futaba was hanging out at Racord as usual trying to cheer herself up after what happened to her, but she came there alone because Nachi was still on his word that day.
Oji : "There you go, a delicious, sweet, warm cup of milk for bright eyes."
Futaba : "Thank you, Oji."
Oji puts the cup of milk in front of Futaba and receives thanks from her with a simple smile, then Futaba begins to drink the milk slowly. Kuro and Ginnojo joined the same table that Futaba is sitting at but didn't say a word and stared at Futaba after she finished her cup putting it on the table and stared at the empty cup for a while but Kuro then decided to break the awkward silence.
Kuro : "It's great to have things back to normal in the capital, don't you agree?"
Trying to lighten the atmosphere around them, Kuro uttered these words, looking at Futaba, but Futaba didn't budge from what she was staring at, and Kuro's attempt to improve the atmosphere fails as he receives no response from Futaba, and Ginnojo doesn't know what to say to comfort her either.
Aoi : "How are you feeling today, Futaba?"
Aoi's question suddenly wakes her from her stupor, and her eyes meet his, smiling at him.
Futaba : "I'm fine, thanks for asking, Aoi."
Her reply seems very ordinary, but Aoi could sense how dim the words that came out of her mouth were. It is true that their problem has ended, but its end has cost a lot. Their attempts to clear the air are in vain, until they are surprised by the sounds of the shop bell ringing lightly, so everyone turns to see who is coming, and are more surprised that the visitors were four people. The twins, Toichiro and Shizuki.
Toichiro : “Ah, I expected to find you hanging around here as usual.”
Toichiro speaks in his usual tone, checking the number of people in the shop trying to make sure no one else is here. While Futaba looked at the twins with eager eyes as if she was waiting to receive something from them, but Yura shook his head lightly, trying to convey the idea to her by just nodding without saying a single word, so Futaba's looks returned to their coldness again.
Kuro : "Yura and Gaku? You two are here too?"
Ginnojo : "Aren't you supposed to be taking care of Koga at the moment?"
Gaku : "Nachi and Kuya are there with him, my brother and I came because the fox pulled us over saying he wanted to tell us something."
Toichiro : "Don't rush to accuse me, I remember saying you were free to come or not."
Toichiro said sarcastically, and Shizuki let out a tired sigh, reminding his master of the main reason for coming here.
Oji : "Is there something you wanna share with us?"
Toichiro : "Rather say 'Somethings' "
Toichiro moved his gaze towards Futaba again, his features becoming more serious.
Toichiro : "Remember the prophecy that Kogare came here to warn us about?"
Everyone was surprised by his sudden question, as it had been a while since Kogare had brought this from the prophet after she came to the Kitsune Village.
Shizuki : "According to Kogare, the prophet did not give us accurate descriptions of this ominous presence."
Toichiro : "So I went to the kitsune village myself to check what was said...and surprisingly, several theories began to emerge."
Toichiro affirmed, drawing everyone's attention to him more and more. As soon as he uttered the word 'theories', many things took place in the minds of Futaba and those with her. Perhaps what they will hear from Toichiro may be the key to solving this mystery despite its end.
Shizuki : "Mistress Futaba's suspicions about the culprit being an Ayakashi were correct, it remains a matter of knowing what kind of Ayakashi it was."
Toichiro : "Ayakashi using sand as a weapon? It's unusual and unheard of."
Ginnojo : "Aren't there any Ayakashi like that?"
Toichiro : " 'Maybe, maybe not, the possibilities are there.' This is what I said to myself, but after what I found out, I retracted my words."
Gaku : "It is said that the only kind that can do this are a single type of Ayakashi called 'Tsuchi'.
Kuro : " 'Tsuchi'?"
Oji : "Could it be..."
That's when Oji let out a soft gasp but he caught everyone's attention and they turned their eyes on him.
Shizuki : "It appears that Master Oji recalled something?"
Oji : “Right, but I didn’t expect to hear that word after all this time.”
Yura : "Tsuchi, you say?"
Gaku : "You know something too, brother?"
Yura : "Who wouldst believe, after all these many years. I didst believe that they hadst gone away all these centuries yond past."
Yura utter these words in an ominous tone, which never brought anyone a comfortable feeling.
Aoi : "What are you guys talking about? I don't understand a single thing."
Oji : “These Ayakashi have been around for hundreds of years.”
Kuro : "Hundreds of years? Meaning that they're older than you, Old Man Oji?"
Oji answered Kuro with a soft chuckle.
Oji : "Well, something like that. It is never known where they came from, as it is clear, of course, they are able to impose their control over the sand.”
Futaba : "Those who attacked us were made of sand, can they be the Tsuchi you speak of?"
Oji : "This is possible, but what made me wonder is if there are still more of them."
None of them said a word, waiting for Oji to continue, so Yura continued it instead.
Yura : "Thy Tsuchi hath historically been regarded as outcasts, since yonder time immemorial, and the Tsuchi hath been banished from the Ayakashi, by reason of certain tales told of them."
Silence still dominated the atmosphere, waiting to hear what Yura would say next, quite sure that what they would hear later might shock them a lot.
Yura : "Thy rumor hast spread, that a single one doth be born among them. A mighty one capable of felling all Ayakashi."
Futaba : "What?!"
Kuro : "Is this for real?!"
Aoi : "No way!"
Gaku : "Are you sure about what you're saying?"
Oji : "I also picked up some similar words, but I didn't believe it at first. Besides, I've never met any Tsuchi in my life."
Yura : "Me likewise, for I hath ne'er encountered a single one in the one thousand years I hath dwelt. Nevertheless, seeing what doth transpire at present, it doth appear that the rumors be true indeed."
Oji : "Despite the differences between the Ayakashi that still exist until today, they concured on one thing : 'The Tsuchi should never stay alive', fearing for themselves that this powerful individual would one day exterminate them."
Yura : "But, ere that might pass, all clues of the Tsuchi hath suddenly vanished, and it was deemed that the Tsuchi hath slowly dispersed."
Toichiro : "So given your story, the matter of these Tsuchi's disappearances was just a twist?"
Ginnojo : "Let us presume that the theory is true, why were the Tsuchi targeting the capital?"
Gaku : "According to what Nachi told us, what happened that night made it clear that the target of the sandmen was Futaba and not the entire capital."
After saying this, all eyes landed on Futaba, which Futaba, in turn, just realized the same thing, in addition to remembering that night again. The sand entity was targeting her only, using two similar to it in order to hinder her comrades from interfering and seizing the opportunity to take her.
Futaba : "You mean that, the Tsuchi want to get rid of me?"
Aoi : "And WHY Futaba of all people?!"
Oji : "Chill out, Aoi. Given their actions, it didn't seem like they had any intention of getting rid of Bright Eyes at first, it seemed like they wanted to take her somewhere. The question remains, where and why?"
Shizuki : “Let’s look at the matter from the other side. Considering the powers those Tsuchi have, I don’t think it was completely wrapped up that night.”
Shizuki's voice attracts attention with its cold tone that brought pessimism into the souls of Futaba and those with her, hoping that what Shizuki said has nothing to do with truth.
.
.
The sun begins to set toward the horizon, leaving behind a sky of fiery orange and crimson clouds that match the hair color of the girl walking under it. Futaba who was trudging home after hearing all those news and things, which probably no other girl her age could bear. After discovering a new Ayakashi, or rather...an Ayakashi that existed hundreds of years ago, possessing great power that no one knows what it is, in addition to not knowing how this Ayakashi affects others, causing them to collapse and enter a coma-like state, on top of all this, it targets her for a reason that is not yet clear, and the possibility of the Ayakashi returning again, given that the last battle was difficult, but its end was very easy, which raises suspicion. All this was enough to exhaust her psyche more, and that what the coming days bear may be very laborious for her, until she felt that the scene and location had changed for her, to find herself near the river bank. She remained standing, as if she was waiting for something or someone, but that wasn't the case. At that moment, she was recalling her memory of the first time she saw the Sandman, that night after which the course of events began to develop, and that their discussion a short time ago was the incentive for her to remember this.
Futaba : "Wait, the sand is still here...?"
Futaba hurried closer to the bank to find that the sand left there from that night was still there.
Futaba : "When sand is left behind, this is a sign that they have left the place completely, and if they don't, it means that they are still in the vicinity. But...if a long time has passed since that night, then this sand should disappear completely...unless-"
"Enjoying your stressful relaxation, Lady onmyoji?"
Futaba : "Whaa!!"
Because Futaba was deep in her thoughts, a soft voice came from behind her, causing her to be surprised, so she turned back and was even more surprised by the owner of the voice.
Futaba : "You...Chizuko?"
Chizuko : "Good day."
The prophet appeared from behind Futaba with her usual smile, indifferent to the reaction she had just received from Futaba. Meanwhile, Futaba is still confused by this sudden encounter.
Futaba : "What...are you..."
Chizuko : "I was on my way to see the young heir but fate brought me to you instead, doesn't it sound arousing?"
Futaba : "Young heir? are you talking about Toichiro? what do you want from him?"
Curiosity builds up in Futaba, wanting to know the Prophet's desire to see Toichiro, but the prophet quickly changes the subject.
Chizuko : "Seems that you're still tussling with case that is extremely sensitive, no?"
Futaba : "You know the identity of the one who cause all this, yet you ran to the Kitsune village to make your prophecy reach me. Why you didn't come to me in person?"
Chizuko : "Would you be able to pay off the price that I will ask of you if I came and tell you in person?"
Futaba becomes silent after hearing these words, as it is known that the prophet always demands prices that a human mind would never accept for every prophecy she gives.
Chizuko : "I didn't reach out to you the first time because I was fully aware of your inability to pay my simple bill, but now as the current situations start to become more hazard, I see you are capable."
Futaba : "What do you mean?"
Chizuko : "I can give you a straight information about the culprit. including the name."
Futaba : "Really? You will? But, it costs something...something unusual, am I right?"
Chizuko : "Definitely yes, a precious prophecy deserve a precious price to say the least."
Futaba : "What is that precious price you're asking which you think I have?"
Chizuko : "A soul."
Futaba : "A- a soul...? Whose soul...?"
Chizuko : "The soul of the first person that came to your mind the first time you heard the word."
Silence prevailed again, and only the sound of the breeze was heard caressing the grasses near the river bank. Futaba expected something like this, but what she did'nt expect was that the Prophet knew what she was thinking.
Futaba : "No...no way, I could never do this. why do you think I'll agree with this???"
Chizuko : "Then are you willing to see more people suffer one after the other from a hidden power no one knows anything about it? you'll abandon many lives only to save one life?"
Those words that Chizuko uttered were as cold as ice, and the logic stemming from her words was indisputable. Futaba stared at the prophet for a long time, waiting for other words, but this didn't happen, and panic almost dominated her thoughts.
Futaba : "I- No...I can't...do that...I...I'll find out the truth by myself, I don't need your prophecies."
Chizuko : "If that's so, then you need to hurry, all of those who have already fallen under the influence of this puzzled powers do not have much time, they won't be sleeping forever. The sand in their hourglass is about to reach it's last grains."
That's all Chizuko said before she was about to leave, leaving Futaba standing in her place, not daring to move her feet or say anything else, her eyes were directed to the ground trying to comprehend what happened and what was said moments ago.
Futaba : " 'The sand in their hourglass is about to reach it's last grains...' "

Ya’ll what got me in today’s Furaba episode was the parallel between Tohru trying to ‘teach’ herself to smile and laugh for Kyo’s sake and her teaching herself to speak politely like her dad when she was young for Kyoko’s sake.
Young Tohru was SOO scared of losing her mom to her dad’s death, she pushed down all her feelings and changed her character ENTIRELY to keep her mom happy. But now, even though she tried SO HARD to change again, she couldn’t contain those feelings. Her hurt was shown to not only to Kyo, but to all her friends, despite her best efforts.
It really is a subtle, but perfect cherry on top to not only Tohru’s love for Kyo outgrowing her love for Kyoko, but in turn, Tohru’s character development, as she didn’t need to change or hide her feelings to receive love from her important people. She got it by being her true, honest self.
Like??? That alone had me CRYINGGG

I feel like no one is talking about how not only is this scene important for Tohru’s and Kyo’s relationship overall, but Tohru’s development herself. For once, we finally see Tohru be selfish. It’s not “Shisho-san doesn’t want you to go away,” or “your friends don’t want you to go away,” it’s “I don’t want you to go away.” Tohru is personally saying she, SHE, doesn’t want Kyo to go away. Of course because that would be a traumatizing thing to happen for him, but also because she loves him and wants him to be by her side. I think Tohru can’t accept the fact that her love is selfish. It’s selfish and raw and beautiful but she just can’t accept it because she doesn’t even want to think about the fact that she’s doing something for herself since she has no regard for her own personal feelings or wants whatsoever. She thinks so low of herself that she believes she doesn’t even deserve to love. I’ve been thinking about this a lot and it makes the scene 10x sadder. Tohru is such a tragically complex character. Ugh I love her so much🤧

Yuki Sohma: An In-depth Character analysis Pt. 2
Hey everyone! I hope you are all well. Now that the series of Fruits Basket has ended, it’s really difficult for many of the anime viewers to say goodbye to this masterpiece of work by Natsuki Takaya. But somehow, we have to get over it. Remember, this will always remain as a special work in your heart.
Although this is a character analysis, I have included my thanks for the Furaba team now that it has ended.
Read Part 1
[Spoilers ahead! Read at your own risk. Also a disclaimer, I am a Yukiru fan, love Kyoru and Yuchi and I don’t want to hurt anyone. If you have different theories, let me know. ^^]
Tumblr media
(Look at this guy from this...
Tumblr media
to this! He looks so mature here... T^T)
Moving on to the topic in hand, I was sobbing at the last Yukiru conversation in the anime. That short scene was the most important scene from the episode. Ah, I didn’t watch the whole season 3, just some snippets but I was compelled by my curiosity to watch the last episode at least to say them goodbye. I don’t have much to write now, as I had mentioned many scenes in the first part, so just grab a cup of coffee or tea while listening to my thoughts.
Let’s start today from something different from the anime. I was reading about Yuki’s character from the fandom website, and here are some screenshots which piqued my interest-
1. Comparing 2001 and 2019 Yuki (Kyo’s revealation of his True form)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So 2001 airing of Fruits Basket had a little bit different plot from the 2019 one(which followed the manga). As you can see, when Kyo runs from Tohru after being transformed into his true form, Yuki chases after them in order to help them. In my opinion this was really a good thinking, but not the best. We can figure out by now how much Yuki was confused about his feelings regarding Tohru in reboot series. Since there was not much content in the former series, so the action taken by Yuki was appropriate. Otherwise, fans would have felt that he didn’t care about all this, which is not true. On the contrary, in the reboot, Yuki stays in the house and just watches Tohru running after Kyo. And in this version, he was also not convinced by Kagura to chase after them, because both of them were uncertain about their feelings. The result of staying silents ends up in Yuki starting to distant himself from Tohru in the next episode.
Sometimes I don’t understand why viewers say that Yuki just flirts with Tohru. You can see how much care he harbors for her, and that’s not in a romantic way, but as a good friend. He is consistent with his behaviour towards her from the start to end(that is how dear she is to him).
Tumblr media
2. Former Conclusions which are excluded in the reboot
Tumblr media
In 2001 anime, since not much plot was there, it was easy to imply that Yuki also had somehow developed romantic feelings towards Tohru. (When I first read this, I couldn’t believe it as I am just an anime viewer who has not read the manga nor watched the 2001 anime T^T). So, it’s general for some viewers to imply the same thing by the end of season 1 reboot (which was my case). It’s easy to shape this relationship as love at first, but after thorough thinking, like Yuki did, it is to be concluded that their bond is not love at all, but something much more pure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.  Author’s information on their relationship
Tumblr media
The last point is regarding the ribbon that Yuki gave Tohru on White Day. One can see how much both care for each other. Yuki started to distance himself from her for both of their sakes, and so does Tohru when she realises how much Yuki has changed gradually as the time has passed. I can consider Yuki as a small child leaving his nest (his home) and finally becoming a full fledged responsible guy.
Tumblr media
4. Why Yuki didn’t call Tohru by her first name (Season 2 episode 4)
This is really a short scene but has its own importance. When Haru turns into his dark form and is about to attack Tohru, both Yuki and Kyo along with Momiji get shocked, but Kyo is the first one to punch him and save her. At that time, Yuki’s face is overshadowed with his bangs, and in my opinion, I guess he was about to extend his hand before Kyo came.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fruits Basket has amazing imagery throughout the series. Here you can see Haru asking Yuki to call Tohru by her first name, to which Yuki first gets shocked, then seems tensed about it. Haru is looking out of the window through broken glass which represents the confusion of Yuki’s feelings, now gradually breaking apart. And the multiple images shown refer to the multiple possibilities he thought about his relationship with Tohru, but that all got compiled to a single answer; his one and only true answer to the problem.
Yuki realises how selfish he has been about this thing, while there were much more problems going on in their house. He learns to be like Tohru and Haru, worrying for everyone and helping everyone out. So he takes a bold step afterward to visit Haru in the Sohma estate as the later had been suspended. When Tohru asks to accompany him, he firmly says no and proceeds to go by himself. In other words, he didn’t want to lose what he learnt from Tohru, that is; caring for others.
But, in the last episode, he has gathered enough courage and feelings that he can now return to her. Tohru as well as Haru cared so much about him, and now that he has reached the finish line to happiness, he wants to thank the ones who made him feel that he was also important; that he was needed by them. Shimazaki Nobunaga-san, you are really fantastic! The way Yuki says her first name is so heartwarming. And one can see Tohru smiling in the end. Even though he was slower than Kyo for this, still he did it. (So proud of you Yuki!)
We can also see how Yuki transforms with the help of Tohru. And this can also be seen by the change of his dressing style at the end of graduation. Earlier, he used to wear collared buttoned up shirts with dark hues, like blue, white, which represented how much tied down he was to the Sohma clan and the curse. But with the help of Tohru, he was able to change. This can be seen by the way he dresses, with loose fitting clothes and little bit vibrant color added to it by the time the curse breaks.
Tumblr media
(I loved the transformation he went through... Aww.)
5. Yuki’s ‘Confession’ in the Beach Arc (Season 2 episode 7)
I knew that I couldn’t cool myself off till I get to know about the true meaning behind this scene. And so I did.
Yuki and Tohru are great as friends, their dynamics are so pure, enjoyable, but one can actually figure out that they are not meant to be for each other. One instance is in season 2 episode 7. Tohru was in inner conflict about her dad but didn’t let it show on her face. No one actually pointed out her gloom either, except for Kyo. And we can’t blame Yuki for not noticing this, because he was suffering internally at that time too.
In a particular scene where Tohru was covering sleeping Momiji, Kisa and Hiro with a blanket, a smile blossoms on Yuki’s face. But upon seeing Kyo being with Tohru, he gets a little jealous and makes an excuse to Haru to leave the spot.  But this is not defined as him being ‘romantically’ jealous. He was confused about his actual feeling for Tohru, and just to not get any misunderstanding, he takes this step. The reason being, Kyo had more interactions with Tohru because he genuinely understood her. And after Tohru running after Kyo, which Yuki considered more of a womanly step, he couldn’t stand seeing him getting more distanced from someone he cared about.
Tumblr media
There’s a great imagery when Yuki returns from the Sohma meeting. Tohru was waiting for him by the beach, and she sees him coming from far in pitch dark night. This sky covered with clouds is his past traumas that he has been dealing with. But when Yuki sees Tohru, the clouds slowly start to dissipate and moonlight shines, which implies the way Tohru helped him out in his hard times.
Tumblr media
Remember when he said about the closed lid to his feelings? Let me tell you what do I think of that concept. Yuki didn’t actually know what he wanted or what were his exact feelings for Tohru. He had a little bit hint about the ‘motherly’ feeling, because she always listened to him, worried for him and cared for him. (Although in my point of view, this is more like a close friend helping another, not motherly affection). But he didn’t want this possibility to be the answer to his confusion. That’s why he kept distancing himself from her, trying to see her in a romantic light, but he couldn’t see the affection that she had for Kyo, for others. By this episode, he has already come to the conclusion about his true relationship with Tohru. Even though he didn’t want to accept it, but he couldn’t refuse it either. That’s why he said that he was sad. She was like a vast expanse of sky, and that meant that Yuki couldn’t have her all to himself. Thinking of this situation as goodbye to his former feelings and the beginning of a new feeling, he cries on her shoulder. (And thinking about he strong he must have been at that scene makes my tears well up too T~T).
About all the things he said in that scene, be it comparing her to the sky or how she was dear to him, I think that he didn’t say it out loud. That’s because he just silently kisses her forehead and leans on her shoulder. If he had tried to say all that, then Tohru must have been confused. (and she was even confused when he didn’t say anything.) So, in that prospect also, Yuki took the decision perfectly. And that change in him which he accepts is seen when he shares such a warm relationship with Kakeru and student council, and his developing feelings for Machi.

6. Why their ending up together would have been difficult to understand.
I was thinking at some point that how similar Tohru and Yuki are to each other. Which is another reason why they didn’t end up together, and it’s for the best.
Tohru was raised by Kyoko to such a sweet girl. Similarly, Yuki was changed by Tohru and was able to find his true self.
Both their partners, i.e. Kyo and Machi were helped by both of them to get over their traumas and to grab to the joy that they were both providing.
Both wish for the happiness of others.
Both are selfless.
That’s why one can see that their dynamics are so good, yet they are unable to complete each other, because they are similar. Both are nice to others, but have lot of pent up emotions inside. These hidden emotions can only be seen by Kyo in case of Tohru and Machi in case of Yuki. So I loved how it turned out.

(Both Kyo’s and Yuki’s expressions are so soft!)
7. The essence of the last conversation of Yuki and Tohru
Ah, so we have reached the end, huh? Anyway, at some point we had to say goodbye to this, and now is the time.
I absolutely loved how this made it end in a complete circle. The series started with Yuki and Shigure discovering Tohru in the woods, giving her shelter in their house, and Yuki taking care of her fever with Tohru thanking him the next day. And the series ends with Yuki now thanking Tohru for being a part of their family, and helping every Sohma member. The change that she brought to them is something which makes her irreplaceable in their hearts. Even though she will  leave with Kyo, but everyone will remember her everyday, if she has been doing well and whether she is happy or not.
Yuki further says that he will be sad, now that no one will be there to say him ‘welcome home’. But he will also be happy because he was able to meet her, who had the vital role in making him realize his importance. Yuki’s dialogues with Shimazaki-san’s voice will bring anyone to tears. Yuki also reveals that she is like a mother to him.

Now I know that many readers might ask me why I am not accepting the fact that she was like a mother to him, even though he himself said that. The reason is, I just don’t know how to digest this. After all the beautiful moments that they shared, him helping her with every little chore, their conversations, I just can’t. It feels more as what a close friend would do for him/her. And I never found any scene which truly depicted that they are related just like a mother and child. In fact, this relationship they have is something more.
Tell me, if he saw her as a mother, then why did he profusely blush when she called him by his first name (he didn’t even blush that much when Machi said it), or Shigure asking him about his rushing along with Kyo to bring her back from her relatives? Or many other short moments? You can see the same deep blush of Tohru when she is with Kyo. Yuki’s this cute side changes by the second half of the second season, with his blush now accompanied by a happy face, which makes us understand how much he values her as a friend. Honestly, some bonds have no words to define them. They are just bonds, but they will always be special to the ones who have it. It will reflect selflessness, care, worry and each one wishing happiness to the other.

(His eyes were shining with joy... HNGH, so beautiful!)
The last part when he extends his hand to her for a handshake has again such a pretty touch to it. In the manga, it is seen that Yuki and Tohru handshake with their right hands, but the same scene here is with their left hands. Actually, left hand is close to the heart right? Handshaking with left hand symbolises the deep friendship that both the sides have, which will always remain close to their heart.

(Darn you Furaba team, you really want me to sob, don’t you... Also, look how beautiful they look! Yuki and Tohru look so much more mature and their blushing is like a cherry on the cake ^^)
And this series is brought to an end with our female protagonist saying “I will see you again” which again implies that they are just getting separated from the family due to change in their environment and situation, but they will make sure to see each other once again.

(Team, you won... *sobs*)
One thing I want to add is how Kyo and Yuki became friends too... It’s so precious! I really liked how Yuki helped Kyo to move on and leave negative thoughts behind when he was not visiting Tohru in the hospital. That scene portrayed how much both idolise and adore each other. The last conversation that they share is Yuki addressing him as stupid cat and Kyo addressing him as stupid rat, which is so sweet in itself.

(I wish all of you happiness.)
Also, I felt so bad for Momiji and Kagura with their unrequited love... Please let them have a great significant other!
