Someone had a dental appointment this morning .... poor lil Javi lost *another* tooth today. Broke my heart a bit dropping him off - he was scared and I seldom see him like that. We get to pick him up in a few when he’s fully alert.

Just a dog.

From time to time people tell me “chill out, it’s just a dog” or “it’s a lot of money just for a dog.” They don't understand the distance traveled, the time invested, or the costs incurred by "just a dog".

Some of my proudest moments have occurred with “just a dog.”

Many hours have passed being my only company "just a dog", but not for one moment did I feel despised. Some of my saddest moments have been because of “just a dog,” and on those gray days, the gentle touch of “just a Dog” gave me comfort and the reason to get through the day.

If you also think “it’s just a dog”, then you’ll probably understand phrases like “just a friend”, “just a sunrise” or “just a promise.” “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

For "just a dog" I will get up early, take long walks and look forward to the future. So for me and people like me, it’s not “just a dog,” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the memories of the past, and the absolute joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out the good in me and takes my thoughts away from myself and daily worries.

I hope one day they can understand that it’s not “just a dog”, but the one that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.” So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog”, just smile because they “just don’t get it”.

Someone clearly does not want to be disturbed.....I found this amusing and a bit annoying since the reason he needed the catnap is because he spent quite a bit of last night jumping on the bed playattacking my other cat. Which meant I spent quite a bit of time gently removing him from the bed.

The gently was because many years ago my son accidentally kicked his cat, knocking him off the bed and breaking his leg. That’s the kind of accident that only happens off-hours on the weekend thus requiring a visit to the emergency vet hospital.

But I digress....Other than the lack of sleep, things have been going pretty well at Chez Em. We’ve had some delightful weather so I’m almost caught up on my yard work - my neighbor came over and cleaned my air conditioning unit because in his words, that’s what neighbors do - and my periodontist checked my gums and reported that I’m doing a really good job and don’t need to go back for even a cleaning until December.

I made a few upgraded bird feeder posts for my deck, hoping that the extra distance might help to dissuade the squirrels (who am I kidding) and I think I’ve mentioned before, I’ve actually been able to use my hot tub at night.

Next week I’m off to the beach for a quick trip - taking my friends and their car back to South Carolina, doing a bit of bonding with my BFF, but its a quick trip out of necessity....in less than three weeks I have my big trip to Israel, Jordan, and Egypt - which means along with all the usual pretrip stuff I need to be sure I set up payments for all of my September bills and mow the lawn at the last possible moment to avoid returning to a jungle. So I’m having my usual pre-trip stress - just multiplied by two cause there are two of them.

Technically three, because nine days after I return from Egypt I head down to Florida for a twelve day cruise, reuniting with some great cruise buddies from last year.

But I recognize that having pre-vacation stress is minor in the overall scale of problems.....and I”m grateful for these travel opportunities...I just need to learn to be a bit more chill about it all.
