Kobayashi Issa’s Haiku of the Day小林一茶の今日の俳句 Translation Discussion翻訳に関する議論 There is a lot happening in this haiku that shows the brilliance of Issa’s wordplay in Japanese. First, let’s begin by examining a few translation possibilities for: 菜うり (なうり) . I asked my AI Assistant the following: Please tell me the translation options in English for 菜うり (なうり) . The term 菜うり (なうり) in English can…

what a woman enjoys
╚══•.·.☆.·.♥︎.·.☆.·.•══╝
ʚ Naoya Zen'in x Fem Reader ɞ
───────────────
❥Summary: You are in an arranged marriage with Naoya Zen'in. He's never cared about your pleasure before, but one argument leaves him wondering what you enjoy in bed. He decides to find out what the answer is.
❥Word Count: 1.7k
❥CW: fem reader (reader has a vagina, referred to as "wife" and "girl"), smut, fem masturbation, penetration, creampie, voyeurism, possible dubcon since reader doesn't choose to be married to Naoya
────── ♡ ──────
"So this is what my little wife enjoys, huh?"
You swallowed thickly, fingers still rubbing incessantly on your clit. You were too nervous to look at him, choosing instead to keep your eyes squeezed shut.
"I asked you a question, and I expect an answer."
"Y-Yes! I… I like this…" you replied hesitantly, beyond embarrassed by your current predicament. You were bare naked on your shared bed, Naoya sitting in a chair at the foot of the bed while you sat in the center. You were spread eagle, allowing Naoya to watch you play with yourself, doing just what he demanded.
You wish you knew exactly what had caused this situation. You had heard some gossip from the maids about a conversation (or, rather, an argument) between Naoya and his cousin, Jinichi. Apparently, Jinichi had taken a woman to bed, and she was being so loud that Naoya had heard her when he got up in the middle of the night. Word has it that Naoya teased his cousin for "inviting a macaque" into his bed, and Jinichi replied by accusing Naoya of not recognizing a woman's screams of pleasure. This led to Jinichi accusing Naoya of not knowing how to please a woman at all, which of course led to a sparring match between the two that was less than lighthearted. The entire exchange was quite scandalous to the ladies who worked at the Zen'in estate, and they were chattering about it all afternoon.
You could only assume that your husband's pride had been severely wounded by the entire altercation. There was no other plausible explanation for why he would've stomped around the estate all evening up until you prepared for bed, no other reason for why he would've ordered you to strip naked and show him "what you enjoy in bed."
None of this was for you—you knew that—but you couldn't ignore the pleasure that was building in your core. You could feel your fingers begin to cramp up from how frantically they toyed with your clit. You were panting softly, trying not to make too much noise in your silent bedroom, fearing that your voice would travel through the thin fusuma. The last thing you needed was for someone to hear you in such a state.
Your fingers traveled lower, two digits pushing inside, searching for that gummy spot that made your toes curl.
Naoya had never bothered to please you in bed before. In his eyes, it was your job to please him, not the other way around. You were merely a warm hole for him to plant his seed; there was no purpose in bringing you pleasure (not that he could in the first place). It was safe to say that this situation was very random to you, completely out of nowhere (aside from his rumored conversation with his rugged cousin). If he had not acted like his usual stern self, you would've sworn he had gone mad.
You huffed in annoyance, unable to reach your g-spot with your own fingers. They just weren't long enough to reach that sweet spot inside you. You pulled your fingers out of your cunt with a sigh, moving them back to your clit instead. Your husband noticed your disappointment, resting his chin against his fist.
"What's the matter? Are your small, delicate fingers not enough?" Naoya teased, a smug grin spreading on his face.
"N-No… they're not…" you replied timidly. Naoya clicked his tongue in false sympathy.
"Poor little wife. Can't do anything without your husband, can you?" It took all your strength not to roll your eyes. He took your silence as an answer, chuckling quietly before leaning forward, patting the edge of the bed. "Come here."
You swallowed your pride and followed his command, scooting closer to the edge, your feet threatening to slip off the bed. Naoya hummed as you looked away in embarrassment, his hand trailing up your thigh as he examined you. He brought his hand to your cunt, his index finger pushing into you without warning, making you gasp.
"I don't believe I've ever seen you this wet before," he commented, pumping his finger in and out of your sopping cunt. "Is… is this normal for you… when you enjoy yourself?" he asked, the scarcest amount of insecurity in his tone. You sighed shakily when he added a second finger, nodding your head.
"Ye-Yes… yes, it is…" Naoya watched you closely before his eyes went back to your cunt.
"Hm. Strange." His fingers curled momentarily, making you gasp. Naoya took notice of your reaction, repeating the action, curling his fingers up into your g-spot again. You let out a moan this time, clenching around his fingers. Naoya's eyes widened, his gaze zeroing in on where his fingers disappeared inside you. He pushed them in and out of you for a few moments before adding a third finger, spreading you wide and making you keen. Your fingers kept working your clit all the while, moving faster, chasing your high.
"You're quite eager, aren't you?" He didn't wait for you to reply, pumping his fingers into you faster. "Sucking in my fingers like a cock-hungry slut. Who knew that my wife could be such a whore?"
"I-I'm sorry," you breathed, apologizing on instinct. Naoya chuckled, his free hand squeezing the underside of your thigh.
"It's alright, dear. You're only this way for your husband, right? You only get this needy for me, don't you?" You bit back an aggravated groan, nodding instead.
"Y-Yes… only you, Naoya."
"That's right," he breathed, pressing into your g-spot again. "You're only a slut for me, no one else."
"Naoya… p-please—"
"Don't whine. It's unbecoming." You shut your mouth, biting your lip when he removed his fingers. He stood up, peeling away at his clothes as he stared down at you. You kept still while he undressed, soon coming face to face with his erect cock. "Move back."
You followed his orders, scooting back to the center of the bed again. He followed you, crawling over your frame. He suddenly grabbed the backs of your knees, pushing your legs back, making you fall down to the bed.
"Hold your legs back," he demanded. You did as he said, holding onto the backs of your thighs. Naoya's eyes roamed over you, drinking you in as he breathed deeply. He sat up on his knees, stroking his cock languidly. He crawled closer a moment later, towering over you, his cock pressing at your entrance. He smirked to himself when he felt your entrance suck at the head of his cock, soon pushing into you with a sharp hiss.
"Shit—why are you so—fuck!" He continued to curse under his breath as he pushed into you, bottoming out soon enough. His cock felt a lot different when you were aroused, the fit snug instead of painful. This was probably the first time you could actually enjoy having his cock inside you.
"Naoya—"
"Shut up," he groaned, pulling out and thrusting back in, starting a reasonable pace. "I don't want to hear you complaining. You're going to take what I give you."
"O-Okay," you mumbled, already panting. His thrusts weren't too fast, but they were hard, his hips slapping loudly against yours.
"Fuck, yeah, fucking take it. You greedy slut, sucking me in—fuck!" he snarled above you, eyes squeezed shut as he thrust into you. Maybe he was trying to imagine you were someone else. You couldn't say that you cared; you had often done the same.
Your pussy squelched loudly, squishing and slurping with each roll of his hips. The added lubrication made his cock feel so much better than it did in the past. His dick filled you so well, your slick allowing him to thrust without difficulty, causing pleasure instead of the usual pain. You could feel pressure building deep inside you, growing with each smack of his hips against yours. You bit your lip, releasing one of your legs and moving your hand to your cunt, rubbing your clit to speed up your orgasm.
"What do you think you're doing?" You froze, nervously looking up at Naoya who slowed his thrusts for a moment.
"I… I just—"
"You think you can do better than me?" he snarled, pushing your hand away and replacing it with his own. "As if you could please yourself better than your husband."
His thumb circled your clit as his hips picked up speed again. You mewled, hips curling to meet his, and he smiled at the action.
"Look at you, bucking your hips into me like a filthy whore. You like all this, don't you?" You hummed quietly, but Naoya seemed displeased with this response. He pulled his hand away to slap at your ass, making you yelp. "Answer me when I ask you a question."
"Yes! Yes, I-I like it, I like it—oh, Naoya, I'm gonna c-cum—"
Naoya laughed breathlessly above you, almost in disbelief. His hand returned to your cunt, moving in time with his thrusts. You hadn't cum in so long that this sudden onslaught of attention sent you hurtling over the edge. Your nails dug into your legs, cunt pulsating as you came.
"Shit—what is—oh fuck—"
Naoya braced himself above you so he wouldn't collapse. You felt warm liquid filling you up as you came down from your high, his hips jolting into yours, twitching as he emptied his balls inside you.
The two of you stayed still for a minute, panting, composing yourselves. Naoya moved first, holding your hips down as he pulled out of you. You moaned softly at the sensation, letting him hold your legs apart and watch your combined fluids leak out of you.
"Not bad," he muttered to himself, watching his cum slip down between your ass.
"I… I'll go c-clean up," you offered, but Naoya kept a hold on you when you tried to get up.
"Did you enjoy yourself?" he asked, looking up to see your reaction.
"Uh… yes. Yes, I enjoyed it very much." He hummed.
"I enjoyed it, too. I didn't know you were capable of getting so wet for me. In fact," he continued, returning his thumb to your clit, "I think I'll have you like this from now on."
"You… what—"
"From this day forward, you will return to the bedroom after dinner and touch yourself until I arrive. That way, you'll be nice and soaked for me. Do you understand?" You suddenly dreaded the next evening.
"Y-Yes, sir." He smiled, patting your thigh.
"Good girl. Now, get on your hands and knees. I'm not quite done with you yet."

Chapter 3 of functio laesa Gojo x Fem!Reader; Geto & Reader [platonic]; Canon Divergent AU; Isekai. Fluff & Angst & Drama & Humor; Reincarnation; Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies; Incredibly Self-Indulgent; Eventual Happy Ending; Eventual Friendships & Romance.

This was supposed to be the first part of a much longer chapter, but eh. Blame my exams and my impatience, but please not me, for the early post. ^_^
Chapter warnings: None!
Tumblr media
Of the many things to call your new life, you never once thought you might call it boring.
Yet here you are. Three weeks since you were released from the hospital. Following a maid down an annoyingly long corridor. Trying, but not really, to stifle the noisy yawns leaving you at regular intervals. Terribly weary and sleepy like the one currently threatening to erupt from your mouth; except it never does, courtesy of the sudden stop the woman reaches outside a room, eyes darting from the closed fusuma doors to you before dropping to her feet. Appearing so very timid and uneasy.
You wonder if you must roll your eyes in exasperation or simply offer her a kind smile... You decide to do neither. Sliding the doors open, you walk in. Sighing only when they are shut quietly behind. Geto lifts a brow, evidently curious. "You're thirty minutes late. Everything's fine, I hope?"
Does he really hope so?
Maybe. Maybe not. But you choose not to comment on it.
The lavishly furnished living quarters, the banquet-esque meals and snacks, the freedom to move as you please within the mansion, the strained yet incredibly polite behaviour from everyone in his 'family'— you know the man cares for you enough to keep his word and ensure your well-being and dignity in this foreign place. Yet, yet, yet... you know this man to be no one but Geto Suguru, so... Yeah. You don't think you can ever be too sure about him.
"Miss?" Geto calls, pushing your speeding thoughts into a still, none too gently as he presses, "Did something happen?"
"No, not really," You reply quickly, hurried if not by the gravity in his words then certainly by that on his features, "It is just that one maid and her stupid fear of me is all. I wish I could somehow make myself look less scary to her, but more often than not, I just end up getting irritated and dismiss her before saying or doing anything."
Sighing once more, you move from near the door to sit on the zabuton. And frown at the smiling man across. Trying your best to shove a rapidly increasing annoyance behind a mask of confusion. "Did I unknowingly crack a joke, Geto-san?"
"Ah, no, you didn't," He answers, shaking his head. The smile on his face grows into a grin, though. "I was just wondering if the maid ever listened in on any of our little discussions... That might explain her strange fear of you, you never quite know."
This reply mustn't tick you off, no. It's possible, you never quite knowing. No one ever quite knows everything. And that's perfectly okay... Still, you find yourself narrowing your eyes slightly and letting go of the lightest hint of a scoff. "Yeah, sure, you might be right," You shoot back the next instant, resting an elbow on the chabudai and assuming a casual smile, "But I don't think anyone would be scared that stiff by overhearing those BORING ASS discussions– no, interviews you took of me," You correct, letting your smile grow a cheeky sting, "Regarding what not: my personal life, my family and friends, my school, my college, my hunt for part-time work–"
"Besides the fact of you being from a world where we're nothing more than fictional characters, yes?"
You fall silent. First by the way Geto interrupts you, yet again, with his smooth friendly smile. Then by the words he utters, taking a beat to register themselves in your brain— then two more to open the gates for panic to rush into that poor overworked organ of yours. You open and close your mouth once, then twice, before eventually sputtering, "But, but, I never meant to spill that fact! And that was the only thing I spoilt! Accidentally, that too!! It was an honest mistake, plus I was slightly tipsy from the sake, and, and–"
"I did not say that to blame you," The man says, no wonder in an effort to look kind, folding the newspaper neatly and placing it on the table. "I merely stated it as a possibility. One which might have been the reality, given the way you were declaring it for everyone in a ten-mile radius to hear," He finishes with a laugh, probably intended to cheer you up but producing the exact opposite results...
Something claws at the back of your eyes.
Rubbing them roughly, you mumble, "But it was an honest mistake, I swear. And, and–" You drag your eyes upwards from the floor to find his gaze trained on you, carrying a sliver of worry. The clawing sensation worsens behind your eyes, travelling to your throat now. You clench your fists to hide the waver in your voice.
"In case she did hear it, it would mean I'm in danger, right? 'Cause that's some pretty weird and sensitive info. And if people happen to get wind of it... Is my safety compromised here, Geto-san?" You finally give voice to the query tormenting your mind, squeezing every drop of solemnity you have into it and your expression. Totally refusing to reveal the shakiness you're feeling in every molecule of your body right now.
Geto watches you for some time, quiet and thinking... then suddenly stands up. And says, face set in a genial smile, "You wouldn't be too opposed to a bit of training, would you?"
For the first time in forever, you don't feel the need to analyse the words spoken to you. Nor the need to rehearse your words before speaking them out loud. Rising from the floor as well, you send the man a small, but genuine grin.
"Finally, you're talking business, Geto-san."
Tumblr media
The maid never heard anything from their conversations. She is simply scared of the Reader's resting bitch face. [Reader doesn't know she has an RBF, though. To her, her resting face looks pretty cute (and sort of indifferent).]

BNHA Observations, speculations and assorted info: Todoroki Mansion (Part 4: Dining Room)
So, in order to write my fic, I spend much time observing canon scenes, comparing the manga and the anime version, take note of details, translations and info in them as well as finding out how are some things called.
Since what I noticed/speculated/found out can be of use for other fic authors I thought to share as well.
Resources:
Chap. 192 “The Todoroki Family” (轟家 Todoroki-ke) Chap. 249 “The Hellish Todoroki Family” (地獄の轟くん家 Jigoku no Todoroki-kun-chi) Chap. 250 “Ending” (エンディング)
Ep. 90 “Vestiges” (面影 Omokage) Ep. 105 “The Hellish Todoroki Family” (地獄の轟くん家 Jigoku no Todoroki-kun-chi) Ep. 106 “The Unforgiven” (許されざる者 Yurusarezaru-mono)
OBSERVATIONS, SPECULATIONS AND ASSORTED INFO:
The dining in the Todoroki Mansion is a washitsu (和室), which means "harmony room" but which is the name used to mean "Japanese-style room".
Tumblr media
It's a room characterized by a tatami flooring (Tatami (畳) is a type of mat used as a flooring material in traditional Japanese-style rooms)...
Tumblr media
and sliding doors, be they Shōji (consisting of translucent or transparent sheets on a lattice frame) or Fusuma (vertical rectangular panels often painted)...
Tumblr media
....and, if the particular room is also meant to serve as a reception room for guests, it may have a tokonoma (床の間), an alcove for decorative items.
Tumblr media
HOW ONE REACHES IT?
In the manga from the Genkan, taking the corridor on the left, though we aren't shown more about how to reach it...
Tumblr media
In the anime it's possible to speculate it's reached always taking the corridor on the left but then we're shown you've to walk through the engawa...
Tumblr media
We know that in the anime the Shōji door with a lower door panel of the room doesn't open on the open part of the Engawa because, outside of the door, we always see a closed corridor.
Tumblr media
Natsuo takes the way on the right and then curves again on the right and then we'll see he has reached the engawa so we can assume that's the way one has to take to reach it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a little harder to say if the same applies to the manga as what's behind the characters entering in the room is left white... but since the wall isn't drawn it's possible the room opens on the outside...
Tumblr media
...but let's look at how the dining room is in details.
THE DOOR AND THE WINDOWS
As said before it's a large Shōji door with a lower door panel and some small Shōji windows above it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to the two small windows on top of the door, we've a marumado (円窓), a circular window with a flat bottom edge, on the left.
Tumblr media
Outside the Marumado there's another corridor, which is probably not the engawa as we don't see it having round windows. By the way, that corridor lead to the Butsudan room, though it's evidently in opposite places in the anime and in the manga as Enji is walking in opposite directions to reach it.
On the wall opposite to the door, on the left, there's a Shōji window the Shoin (書院) with, below it, a power point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Shoin (書院) is considered a decorative window-style structure which is usually located to the left of the Tokonoma in formal ones (since the Todoroki one is collocated to the right I guess their own isn't formal). A Shoin with an overhang toward the porch area is called “Tsuke-shoin” (付書院), and those without an overhang are called “Hira-shoin” (平書院).
SIZE OF THE ROOM
In the anime is clearly of 12 tatami mats.
In the manga is harder to say but maybe it's 10 tatami mats?
WALL IN FRONT OF THE DOOR
As shown in the images above and as said before, on the wall in front of the door there's a Shōji window, then an alcove, which I'm not sure could costitute a Tokonoma as what's displayed in it is a television.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The anime also adds, hung on the wall on the side opposite to the window, a picture.
Tumblr media
WALL ON THE RIGHT
As said before and as shown in the images before, on the wall on the left there's only the marumado window.
WALL ON THE LEFT
The wall on the left is the one of the Tokonoma. A formal Tokonoma structure is called Hondoko (本床) and consists of the following three parts: the Shoin (書院), a decorative window, the Tokonoma (床の間), an alcove and the Tokowaki (床脇), a space with shelves.
Tumblr media
In the manga we've already seen that the tokonoma structure isn't a formal one as the Shoin window is placed in the opposite side. Let's focus now on the Tokonoma, which contains a kakemono (掛物 "hanging thing"), more commonly referred to as a kakejiku (掛軸 "hung scroll"), and a vase on the right. We can also catch a glimpse of a flower arrangement which should be in front of the scroll.
Tumblr media
As for the Tokowaki, instead than an upper and lower cupboard with, in the middle some shelves, we've what seems to be a closet with a lower cupboard.
The anime instead went for a traditional Tokowaki.
Tumblr media
It has in the middle a Chigaidana (違い棚) which is decorative shelves consisting of two different levels and two cupboard-like shelves with sliding doors placed above and below the Chigaidana, which are called Tenbukuro (天袋 "top shelf") and Jibukuro (地袋 "bottom shelf").
CEILING
The ceiling is a Japanese Saobuchi tenjō (竿縁天井 "rod edge ceiling") ceiling, a flat wood ceiling supported by narrow wood beams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ON WHAT DO THEY SIT?
In the anime they're always sitting on Zaisu (座椅子) chairs, Japanese chairs with a back and no legs.
Tumblr media
In the manga, when Enji comes home after beating a Nomu and when he dreams his family eating together they're all sitting on Zabuton (座布団) Cushions.
Tumblr media
Only Fuyumi seems to be sitting in a seiza (正座) position (on her heels with her legs tucked underneath her). As she's a female her other option would be to sit with her legs tucked on one side. Males can also sit in a seiza position but the Todoroki males all seem to sit in agura (胡坐) position (cross-legged). Stretching the legs directly out in front of themselves is something one must not do so nobody does it.
The table should be a Zataku (座卓) table, a low, rectangular table suitable for sitting on Zabuton or Zaisu.
Tumblr media
SEATING ARRANGEMENT
Seating arrangements is very important in Japanese culture: The guest-of-honor is seated upon the kamiza (上座 "Chief seat" or "seat of honor") which is typically situated farthest from the entrance. The middle of the table is the most honored position, and the second most important person is seated next, at his right, the third most important person at his left. When there is a tokonoma in the room, the guest-of-honor is seated in front of it. The host or lowest-ranking guest is seated closest to the shimoza (下座 "lower seat").
So let's give a look at how the Todoroki sit...
To make things simpler I made a scheme showing the floorplan of the dining room and the seating arrangement.
Tumblr media
Enji, the family head, is always at the head of the table. I'll assume the first time they put him near the door because otherwise he wouldn't have been able to watch the tv.
The second time in fact, when the tv is not turned on, he's at the chair farther form the door.
The first time Shouto is placed at his right, which is the second most important place. It might be because Shouto is being a guest in a way, as he's temporally living at the dormitory, or it might be because this, in a way, remarks Shouto's status as Enji's heir, despite Shouto being the youngest.
The second time at Enji's right there's Bakugo, which makes sense as he's a guest. Technically the third most important place would be the one at Enji's right, but they've probably left Bakugo, Midoriya and Shouto all seated at the same side of the table so that they would be more comfortable. From what I could understand in theory in such scenario, Enji should have seated opposed to them, between Fuyumi and Natsuo (the middle place is the most important spot in this kind of arrangement), but this is no business dinner so I guess they didn't bother.
So the most important spot after the one Bakugo is having goes to Fuyumi's Enji's eldest child.
Interesting enough, when Enji came home from fighting the Nomu, that spot was given to Natsuo.
What's interesting to notice though is that the Todoroki's dining room comes with a problem.
Guests should be placed facing the Tokonoma but this here doesn't happen. In order to place Bakugo at Enji's right, they give their back to the Tokonoma.
That is unless Enji gives up his place as the head of the table and sits on the middle of the table between Fuyumi and Natsuo.
Now, Enji's dream in the manga.
The manga doesn't give us a way to figure out how the characters are placed in the room but the anime confirms the scene is seen from Enji's point of view as he enters in the room, so Rei and Fuyumi are next to the tv. In this arrangement, there's no spot for him and no head of the table.
In theory the most important person should be Rei, as she's the oldest (and she's placed far from the door)... which makes Shouto the second most important person again with Fuyumi coming third.
The anime added a dream sequence which has Rei seated at the head of the table but this time Natsuo would get the second most important place, then Fuyumi, then Shouto.
On a sidenote there's to say families might chose not to be so strict about seating arrangement and just go with what makes them comfortable so...
Still, to sum it up, manga and anime this time are pretty similar in how to represent the room, the biggest difference being merely how the anime, differently from the manga, decided to go for a traditional Tokowaki.

Izakaya Kamenoya, part 2
Last week, I did a post on the Izakaya Kamenoya, the favorite watering hole of the Gotei-13 middle management, and I promised you a follow-up with interior shots for everyone who, like me, immediately wanted to incorporate it into their fanfic.
So, here's the entrance!
Tumblr media
It appears to have a big main room, with a bar on one side, and tables lined up in a row on the other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: I am obsessed with the shihakushou-wearing bartender. Is the Seireitei a Kurt Vonnegut's Player Piano scenario, where you need to get a degree in soul-reaping just to tend bar? Is this an officer's bar, staffed by unseated people (which sort of defeats the point of separate bars where you can get get drunk and talk smack about your subordinates) Or is the bar a co-op of some sort, and this guy just pulled mixologist duty this week?
Ahem!
There are also private rooms! Kyouraku and Amagai get one in 172, and then they seem to have the same one when they come back with Ukitake in 179. I think it's kind funny that they don't have sword racks or something? Kyouraku's got his propped against the wall, and Amagai's are on the floor. I think Ukitake left his at home. More evidence that you are, in fact, allowed to carry your zanpakutou in the court as long as you don't draw it, in times without a wartime exemption.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kira and Hisagi seem to have a very similar, if not the same room in episode 305, although theirs is plastered with ads. I wonder if this is like the "Kindle with Special Offers" where it's cheaper if you take the room with flyers and Kira and Hisagi are nothing if not broke.
Tumblr media
The lady lieutenants get a private room for their zanpakutou spirit going-away party, as well. I can't really tell if their room is bigger, or if Amagai and Kyouraku just have a lot more space in theirs. I imagine they probably have a couple different sizes of private rooms at different cost levels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of cost levels! Rukia and Renji appear to have an entirely different private room in Episode 355! It's got cool patterned paper in the fusuma (or maybe those are supposed to be paintings of mountains?) They've got a much fancier live-edge table. If you go by counting tatami, this room does seem to be a little bigger. The shouji has a solid panel at the bottom-- Wikipedia tells me that this is called a kōshi, and is to protect against the door getting wet or kicked, so I almost wonder if this opens to the outside. Does Izakaya Kamenoya have a garden? Outdoor drinking for the summer? Also, I think it's notable that most people tend to show up in their work clothes, but Rukia and Renji have clearly dressed up for their Private Room at the Chili's Date.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The question is: is this Kamenoya's Deluxe Room for People with Kuchiki Money, or did they upscale sometime in the 17-month timeskip? Does...does the Seireitei have gentrification?
Fortunately, Izakaya Kamenoya makes one more appearance in the my favorite fanfic, the end credits to Episode 366, proving that, thank goodness, it is still an affordable drinks location where you can go get ripped and sob about your boss.

So close yet so far
That was the only way to describe your predicament. The hallways seemed to elongate at dizzying speed with every thud of your feet against the cold wooden floorboards. You were reminded of the dreams you often heard people have, where they would try to exit buildings but with every step, the door that stared at them almost mockingly would seem further and further away. You'd counted yourself lucky to have never experience those, yet perhaps gloating had not been such a good idea. Because here you were, in that exact scenario, but this wasn't a dream you could wake up from. If only.
The Estate was stupidly huge and you had a nagging feeling that he had insisted it be so just so it would take more time for you to escape. Your throat felt like a cement chute, dry and aching with every recollection of the times you had tried to escape. In retrospect, it seemed as though he had wanted you to, to test your so-called 'loyalty' to him by dropping little chances that were more so curses and giving you the opportunity to figure out an escape route. You were a doll, one for him to toy with.
The sickening realization caused you to swallow back bile rising in your throat. How long until he arrives? You reached the door, fingers hooking into the small hatch of the fusuma. Was this it? Would you be free? It seemed too quiet, too comforting, you felt dread pool into your stomach at the belated realization. Had he..actually gone on a mission? How many swords did he have?
And why was one of them, with the flame-shaped hilt that you recognized to be that of the former Flame Hashira's, leaning by the door which you were about to open if he really was on a mission?
Warm air flew over the expanse of your nape. But it did nothing to alleviate the drastic drop in your body temperature. If anything, it caused the hair on the back of your neck to stand up in alarm. Silence reigned, thick and nauseating. Your vision blurred and your grip on the hatch loosened. But you were so close to the outside, so close to being free, what if you managed to outrun him? Surely, he would not chase you in public, for all to see.. Outrun a hashira? Your consciousness mocked, but you were desperate and maybe, just maybe.. you regained your grip and began sliding the door, hearing the satisfying scrape against the ground-
« I hope you understand the consequences of your actions, » his voice was lathered in honey and if you hadn't been hyper aware of the mind games he played, you would not have registered the dangerous undertone, akin to the bitter aftertaste of dark chocolate. « You know what will happen if you open the door. » yet he made no attempt to stop you. His gaze was un-relented, boring a hole into the back of your head. You were breathing heavily, your mind fuzzy. The only clear fact was the freedom that laid behind the door. The fight had long left you, and when you slid the door just a little further and felt a sharp pain stab your neck, you didn't even scream.
Tumblr media
Tanjiro watched you from where he was seated at the foot of your bed. Your knees  were pressed against your chest and your palms rested on both of them, eyes refusing to meet his. If that bothered him in the slightest, he didn't give any indication of it. His face held no anger, but he regarded you like a mother would a child who had drawn on the walls. You weren’t sure what to expect as punishment.
Punishment like twice before. The first time you had made an attempt to escape and had been caught, he had resorted to locking you up in your room.
"As a warning." He'd said.
The second time, he had left you in the dark for days. A windowless room. Third time's a charm, but in your case, it was three strikes out.
"Our family works with fire," he spoke up. In his eyes, you were already married to him and his family. Or rather the remaining member of it. "You know that, don't you? » he stood up smoothly, bending towards you to tuck a strand of your hair behind your ear. His mouth tugged downwards when you flinched.
« And it will help me to teach you a well-needed lesson. »
Alarms seemed to go off in your mind, and your heart raced. You glanced around the room frantically, hoping to spot whatever he would use on you. Perhaps you would be smart enough to figure out how to turn it against him, but it seemed all luck had abandoned you. Your chest heaved and there was that dizziness again that seemed to cause the room to tilt sideways. The sheets wrinkled when you gripped them too hard.
« T-Tanjiro! » you tried, but your voice was hoarse. « I'm sorry, i'm sorry, please, please, i'll listen! I- i won't try to escape again-« you were crying now, and his gaze softened just a bit at the edges. Hope sparked in your chest. « I'll be good, i..i love you.. » the words hurt like glass cutting through your throat, but you forced them out. You love him. You had to.
He stared at you with sympathy and pity for a while, looking close to crying. But his resolve was stronger, it seemed, for he shook his head and closed his eyes. « It has to be done, » he whispered. « You'll thank me after, my love.. »
Out of the pocket of his green and black checkered haori, he fished out a single match and your heart seemed to get stuck in your throat as the realization of what was to come dawned on you. When he lit it, your eyes trailed on the small, dancing flame. You scooted backwards on the bed, looking around for something to throw at him, to smother the flame with.
But you severely underestimated a hashira's ability to quietly and quickly move around and when you felt cold air brush against your skin, he was on you, hunched over your body on the bed. The flame was dangerously close to your face, and your wide eyes zeroed in on that. In that moment, you held your breath. Waiting.
But the matchstick was soon lowered and Tanjiro sighed. « No matter how much i try, i can’t bring myself to hurt you. » he gingerly took your hand in his and for a heartbeat, you had hoped that he would lay a kiss on your palm. « But i still have to punish you in some way. You need..you need to learn.. » he looked up at you and those wine tinted eyes of his that had once held kindness were now fractured with desperation. A small portion of you felt bad. Life had been cruel to him, he had witnessed the death of his entire family, save for one. Now, he simply wanted nothing more than to retain what he had left. But this wasn’t the right way to do so.
A little goes a long way and the little kindness you had bestowed upon him on Mount Natagumo had lead him to develop an aching need for you.
He brought the matchstick to face level and observed it, lips pursed. You thought that the anticipation would kill you faster than he would, if ever. Finally, your palm that you thought he would kiss was pulled into the fire. You screamed, and instinctively drew your hand back or at least tried to. He had an iron grip on your wrist. The more you struggled, the worse the pain became and soon tears were choking your voice. He was also crying, looking like he was the one being burnt, but he held his posture.
When your voice failed you and you didn’t find it in yourself to struggle, the pain long since numbed, he released you. His face was streaked with tears and he gazed at your helpless, broken form in anguish. He blew the fire out shakily, kissing the charred skin in a feather-light way.
Throughout the entirety it took to cool, bandage and disinfect the wound the one he caused, he kept muttering his apologies almost like a mantra. You were unable to register it. In fact, it was as though your mind bad gone dormant. You let him do as he please, say what he wants to. You knew now that you would never be able to escape, and if you tried, you would be burnt. And you knew Tanjiro performed Sun breathing, but it wasn’t the warmness that you felt when you stepped outside. Tanjiro was scorching. He had scorched you. It was better to relent. You knew that much when he brought you in his embrace, tucking your head underneath his chin, the apologies still spilling out of lips.
You were a doll for him to play with.

Chihaya was listening to Tare when Taichi found her in high school. It was the same poem that secured her first win against Shinobu. Taichi's love was described as Shinoburedo and Koi su cho by Kana-chan--poems that talk about a strong love that cannot be hidden. Yura was the last poem read in their 2nd-year nationals competition, the card that Taichi offered to the gods and staked all his good fortune into while wishing for Chihaya to wake up and witness his fate. The Kaze wo poem provided the words of allegory for the heartbreak Chihaya experienced at Taichi's departure. Se was the poem Chihaya sent to Taichi on their 3rd-year regionals, a poem about asking fate for a chance to meet again. It was only when Chihayaburu was recited when Chihaya noticed Taichi's arrival in their 3rd-year nationals. Despite its disappearance, she thought it was okay as long as Taichi was with her. The same poem also helped Taichi win against Sudo despite disassociating himself from it; and against Arata's strong defense, leading to his first win against him. Fu was Taichi's second-best take from Arata, moving Chihaya to tears. It was also Chihaya's first card she took like a real karuta player and what Taichi admired ever since. Kimi ga tame described Taichi's secret support for Chihaya in the Queen match, collecting the 7 green herbs that symbolize luck for her. Chihaya took Su, a poem she described as "romantic", during her first realization that Taichi has always been with her, which happened after she recalled the memory of Taichi saying his feelings for her might fade away someday. Su was also the poem Taichi used to communicate with her during the Qualifier, motivating her not to give up despite having trouble with Makino-san’s reading. Tachi was the card Chihaya voluntarily kept and was the card of fate, winning her the Queen title. On the fusuma, Tachi is a poem that has always been a pair for Chiha for a thousand years. Tachi, the poem that reaffirmed Chihaya’s belief that Taichi is constantly with her from the very beginning. Chihaya described Taichi’s confession to her as a poem until it was her turn to recite her own poem to him with the simple words of “I love you”.
Can Taichihaya get any more poetic than this???!!!
