Some recs for adult animation I enjoy:

People always seem to think I only watch kids' shows, so here's a list of animated television shows I adore, that were all made with adults in mind:

King of the Hill - Genuinely didn't think I'd like it, but I actually really love it? I expected something that was basically just The Simpsons or Family Guy, but got a surprising amount of emotional depth from the main cast. Bobby Hill is my son boy.

Futurama - I am legally obligated to list Futurama. I have watched the entire series so many fucking times. I'm going to watch the reboot and we all know it.

Disenchantment - It's more than just "Futurama medieval fantasy" but tonally, they are pretty similar. I enjoy it immensely. Bean is a #bicon, and that's fucking canon <3

Samurai Jack - The original show aired as a kids' show, but the revival apparently put it into the adult category. I haven't gotten that far yet, but holy shit, it's so good so far. Even the "kids' show" part is pretty mature, imho.

Bob's Burgers - I fucking love Bob's Burgers. I need to catch up on the more recent seasons. A sitcom that DOESN'T have parents who clearly hate each other? Whaaaat?

Harley Quinn - I'm not caught up, and there are aspects I have critiques of, but overall, it's been fun as fuck. I LOVE this interpretation of Ivy so fucking much.

Metalocalypse - My dad's a metal musician, so this was on in my house all the time when I was a teenager. I haven't watched it in *years* but I still reference the early seasons in conversation constantly. The Duncan Hills will wake you, motherfuckers.

Big Mouth/Human Resources - They are better than you think they are, and the "ugly style" reminds me of classic Klasky-Csupo. Compare it to Rugrats and tell me it doesn't have similar caricature styles. Story-wise, it nails the exact blend of panicked awkwardness I felt as a disaster tween, it has SO MANY queer characters. They dramatically improved on their more problematic aspects after getting called on it in seasons 1 and 2. And Human Resources made me sob like a little baby in the episode with Kieth from Grief.

BoJack Horseman - Starts off as a goofy gross-out humor sitcom but very quickly becomes a serious drama. Incredibly heavy and dark, but holy shit the catharsis. Delves into a lot of musings about morality, celebrity culture and Hollywood, generational trauma, and the perpetuation of cycles.

Tuca & Bertie - Goofy slice-of-life about characters navigating their 30s. Lots of musings about family, trauma, sexual abuse, queer dating in your 30s, friendship, and trying to survive it all. I relate so fucking much to the main cast.

Magical Girl Friendship Squad - It's a magical girl cartoon about milennials. Their magical girl weapons are birth control pills and a bong. It's fucking amazing. I'm really sad nobody else seems to have heard of it. :(

Little Demon - Sitcom about the Devil's daughter. Unsure if it's going to get a season 2, since it's about to get taken completely off of Hulu. Still worth watching if you can, because it's so fucking good. Centers on a teenage girl navigating Being A Teenage Girl while also dealing with her dad being the Devil and her mom being a traumatized mess who's figuring her own shit out.

Q-Force - The advertising did this show so fucking dirty. It was genuinely fucking funny, and it was clearly made with love. This isn't straight people making fun of us, this is queer people making queer comedy. Watch it.

Arcane - Arcane's politics are all over the place and I am in my "Silco Was Right" corner, which is right next to the "Magneto Was Right" clubhouse. But goddamn, the animation is gorgeous and the story is intense.

The Legend of Vox Machina - I haven't watched Critical Role, so I can say with confidence that this show is fucking amazing even if you have zero interest in the original gameplay streams. Fantasy animation for grownups, where they can show blood and titties, my beloved. <3

Popular culture and the duties of archivists [Part 1]

Peel Archives has written about archives and archivists in popular culture before, and as such, I've listed them in a bibliography page on this website. I recently came across two posts by archivist Samantha Thompson in April 2018 and July 2015 about the duties of archivists and what information they keep. In April 2018 post, where she notes that in film, archives "are generally mysterious places," hiding and revealing secrets that move the plot forward, with one of the biggest mysteries is "how all that stuff got into the archives in the first place," with old documents somehow ending up in the archives, but it's never shown how this happens. That's definitely true. I mean, there are even series where characters literally set the archives on fire and there are no consequences for their actions. With that, I'd like to compare what she says to the archivists that I've found in popular culture up to this point.

Arrangement

Thompson writes about how archivists organize and store records, engaging in an arrangement of records in a way that doesn't disturb "important connections, clarifies how the records were used, related, or collected," while making it easier "to navigate the records." This includes physically processing records based on the organization established, when sorting, filing, labeling, and rehousing them in specific archival containers. This connects to Lore Olympus, where, at the end of episode 111 ("You Tell Me"), the two of the Fates (Atropos and Lachesis) talk about how they need to refine their filing system for records. This is alluding, I would argue, to the arrangement that archivists engage in, as these records, memories stored in a videotape format akin to VHS, have to be stored and organized in a specific way. Unlike Steven in Steven Universe, these tapes are stored correctly.

This contrasts with the infinity archive, confused with a library, in the Mystic Archives of Dantalian. How, in the world, are all those records arranged, described, and selected? That is, of course, never explained.

Description

That connects to description, which are ways to systematically summarize descriptions, giving "researchers snapshots of what they can expect to find in collections," with these descriptions forming finding aids or guides to the collections themselves. As she puts it rightly, not every individual item can be listed, but a description can help see if a collection is good for research. It could be said that Futurama touched on this with the Physical File Archive, although there is some debate as to whether that is an archive or a records center since it has semi-active records. However, no archivists were seen in the episode. There is implied description by archivists like Filis in Tri-Squad VoiceDrama, Destiny in the X-Men comics, and Robert Nicholas in Vatican Miracle Examiner. The same can be said of the books and materials collected in the family library, or more accurately a library-museum-archive hybrid, in the Whispering Woods in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

The Timeline

As always, I am your little gremlin host. Today we simply look at the last 2 months to see wtf's goin on in the world in my attempt to guage the stability of our timeline.

If anyone lives in the middle of the fucking Atlantic Ocean and wants a porche and a VW, great news! There's apparently a cargo ship called Felicity Ace that is ON FIRE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WET ASS LIQUID OCEAN. The crew safely abandoned it, and under Maritime law, the ship is now Finders Keepers TM. I'm sure that whatever life forms arise from this latest environmental disaster will appreciate being able to drive in style

Nintendo has announced they are shutting down the 3DS and Wii U e stores in March 2023, and some people say they've already hit the Wii U store. Because nothing stops piracy like making games even harder to come by, obviously. Titles such as Xenoblade Chronicles X, Twilight Princess HD, Wind Waker HD, the entire catalog of the 3ds Pokémon games, and more are gonna be harder to find soon, much like my will to live

Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard. Good, keep the annoying CoD and LoL players on Xbox

Attack on Titan started its final season- er, the second half of it, which is totally different from being a season, I'm sure. I for one am very excited to finally see the day weebs shut the fuck up about Attack on Titan and finally watch and talk about something else. HiS wHoLe sQUaD!!!!!

Shenmue, the game from the SEGA Dreamcast, has an anime now. Now you too can experience a game from the 90s set in the 80s by watching an anime from the 20s that looks like it came from the 10s. Catch it on Toonami Saturday nights, or Crunchyroll

Jurassic World has another movie coming out, proving that everyone most definitely learned their lesson from the original movies and stopped bringing back mutated versions of ancient murder machines

Pokemon has released Legends Arceus, a game where everything wants to kill you, and for the first time since the Switch era started, most fans agree that it rocks, but needs more polish. Finally, some good fucking food after 6 (really 3) garbage fire games

Chip n Dale has a new live action movie in the works based on the amazing Rescue Rangers cartoon show. Of course, what Disney crypt raid or franchise revisit would be complete without making fun of very iconic and beloved voices they themselves made, and what live action adaptation would be complete without replacing those iconic voices with some generic guy's boring ass voice?

There are truckers in Ottowa being annoying and protesting over vaccine mandates, because they can't just be annoying everywhere else. It's okay to be afraid of needles, guys, I swear it doesn't hurt! I've been jabbed 3 times and the 5g microchips doesn't interfere much with the government tracking devices in literally everything else.

Futurama is in talks about getting another season on Hulu, once again proving Matt Groening is some sort of necromancer but for cartoons. Of course the biggest news from this is that the voice of Bender- aka arguably the most popular character from the show- John DiMaggio, does not want to come back unless they can negotiate his contract better and open the floor to give him and his fellow voice actors a raise. This very reasonable act of ensuring everyone is paid fairly is apparently one of the evilest things you can do to the fans, according to like, 5 guys on Twitter. But sure, I'm so certain replacing the show's most iconic character's very iconic voice will go over very well with everyone, like replacing Mario's Charles Martinet with Chris Pratt.

Norway got 15 gold medals in the Olympics! Holy shit! They beat their own record from 2010 where they earned 14, shared with Canada. There's nothing to make fun of here, that's just cool

Apparently a lot of Catholic baptisms are suddenly being invalidated due to the usage of "we" instead of "I," which has thrown many of the religion into a frenzy due to having similarly worded Baptisms. Basically, imagine you've lived your whole life by the book, helped countless unfortunates, gave away your riches, confessed every sin, served your god dutifully and worshipped him every hour of every day and attended each and every church session no matter what, gave a kidney to the little girl with an extremely rare blood type that you happen to match, you are a genuinely good person and an excellent example of Christianity and have never asked nor expected anything in return, and you STILL don't get into Heaven because St Pete asked for RC Cola and you were given Sam's Cola, and couldn't tell the difference once the guy poured it into your red solo cup. That's about the situation a lot of people seriously think they are in.

The following has to do with politics and war. If that's not your vibe, scroll on. I should also mention I am just an ordinary Joe with a hardly a penny to his name. I am not a news reporter, I'm not a journalist, or anything of the sort. However, most of this can be found by Google, so take that as you will

The Trumps apparently aren't cooperating with subpoenas, and Trump apparently got pissy about them going after "children" like his 40 year old daughter Ivanka. 40, that's barely out of diapers! Hey, remember when he said on live TV that he'd date his own daughter if he could?

Speaking of, apparently the horse's ass is keeping very important TOP SECRET docs at Mar-A-Lago, including love letters (as he called them) to Kim Jong-un and President Obama's presidential letter to him. Hey, at least he didn't violate the Presidential Records Act- oh wait, HE DID, and much like last time, he probably won't get punished for it.

Rudy Giuliani, aka Mr "LETS HAVE TRIAL BY COMBAT," was also subpoenaed. He claims its illegal. I wonder how legal inciting violence and an attempted coup is?

Just a personal opinion, I'm very tired of hearing anything about the Trumps or any of their cronies. Follow the example of the Dodo bird: Look stupid, go away, and never be heard from again. Please.

And in a very serious turn of events, Russia is trying to invade Ukraine. I don't want to frighten anyone, so you can Google if you need more info, but things are looking pretty grim. But if you have anxiety or depression, try not to doom scroll, okay?

Pitch Me your thing!

HELLO HELLO MY SUNBEAMS. For most every category, there was an impressive turn-out for pitches, so I thought we’d utilize the weirdness of this year’s GIFTENING to give something new a try. The popular vote winner for each category will happen on the first day, but on the second, the winner will be chosen from YOUR PITCHES. Mostly those pitches will be to me. The exception is in Miscellaneous, where you’ll be pitching to my family, because what I want to do and what is most entertaining isn’t necessarily the same thing.

So! How will we do this thing? GLAD YOU ASKED. I’ll link you to a form in a minute with space for one pitch. Once you fill it out, you’ll be asked if you want to do another. There’s no limit to the number of pitches you can send in! But remember that if you submit multiple entries for the same category, you’ll basically be competing against yourself.

NOW WE’VE GOT SOME RULES FOR DOING THIS (which I mostly stole from Holligay, because I have no creativity this year). Please read them carefully! I’ll toss pitches that break any of these, and I’d rather your hard work not go to waste.

Miraculous AU: Our own heroes!/No One’s Tool!

Miraculous AU Time! Got inspired by a good fanfic (A mother’s love by  PenguinProduction05 ) and thought this would be a fun AU to work on!

So season 1 plays the same, but Marinette and Adrien get much more smarter than in canon, and more comfortable with eachother.

Basically being on their own for most of season 1, they become much more dependent on each other when in combat and eventually in their daily lives. Ladybug starts to become much more close with Chat and enjoys his company, and Chat stops flirting as much and instead becomes more of a partner, checking how Ladybug is and when she is alright.

Chat still wants Ladybug to know eachothers identities, but over time as the akumas keep coming it changes from love to practical reasons. What if something happens to one of them when they aren’t transformed, such as being sick or injured. What if something happens in their normal life that would affect their ability to be heroes?

Ladybug contemplates this, and agrees. Despite the risks there could be revealing their identities, its just as much of a risk not to reveal them given how something could happen.

So they eventually reveal their identities to eachother, despite Tikki’s protests. Cue a lovey dovey Adrinette moment.

Suddenly Fu appears! (About time)

Despite not doing anything all of season 1, Fu learns about their reveal to each other, and comes to them to get back their miraculouses, as they broke ‘his rule’. All so he can give them to new children and leave the responsibility of fighting an adult villain to them while he sits back and drinks tea.

Ladybug and Chat Noir metaphoricallly say ‘fuck that!’

1, because Chat and even Ladybug (to an extent) love being heroes.

2, because Fu did nothing all season, and now just when Ladybug and Cat Noir are starting to work as equal partners and a team, Fu now comes in to dictate how they should act.

They book it and leave, with Fu not giving chase because he doesnt want to risk exposing himself to Hawkmoth.

Cue the Volpina episode (with some changes), and Adrien and Marinette recover the Miraculous spell book.

They think that Gabriel might be Hawkmoth, but he throws them off with akumatising himself.

Deciding they should keep the book and need to decipher it, they give copies of the books pages to Jalil Kubedel to decipher in order to learn about the order of the Guardians, given that Fu is after them as well and probably wont help. As thanks for allowing him to decipher the book, Jalil locates and provides a warehouse for the heroes to use as a makeshift base, under the guise of it containing stuff for the museum (which is partially does). Alix finds out about this, and so joins in on helping the heroes by helping to locate Hawkmoth.

And so Ladybug and Chat stand by eachother as heroes, with Jalil and Alix (by proxy) being their initial allies. The latter two learn their identies eventually, but agree to keep it a secret, along with their work to decipher the book.

Also, turns out one of the rules about the Order of the Miraculous (as described in the Miraculous Spellbook) is that Unity and truthfullness are key attributes of the order, and that no other miraculous team ever had to hide their identities (at least for very long). Meaning that Fu’s statements about secrecy were for his sake rather than the Order’s or his mission.

Gabriel does ground Adrien, but Ladybug and Chat learn a spell (thanks to Jalil’s deciphering) that can make a mimic copy of the book, and give that to Gabriel. Gabriel doesnt notice this however, as he already scanned the book, and normally uses his computer to read the pages anyway.

Fu learns they have the book once they uncover the Power up potions and use them againt Syren, and demands the book back. Of course Ladybug and Chat Noir say ‘hell no!’.

Cue season 2

Ladybug and Chat Noir eventually start to encounter more trouble, as they not only encounter new akumas, but also another problem - new heroes.

See, Fu decided that he could not risk Ladybug and Chat Noir still being active (even though for the most part they are doing the same thing as before, and it was his fault they didn’t know about him and started to do their own thing), so he sent other heroes out with one rule - to get the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous by any means necassary.

This in turn causes most akuma battles to turn into three way battles where Ladybug and Cat Noir are fighting akumas as well as the rest of the Fu Squad(tm).

Also like in canon, all the other heroes are temps. Fu uses magic to transport and return miraculous boxes, similar to how Futurama uses tubes to transport people and post. But, you know, magic.

Rena Rouge comes first. At first believing she was just another Volpina, Ladybug and Chat Noir learn that the new hero is not an akuma, but another hero chosen by Fu to fight the rouge heroes. They eventually defeat her (while they are stopping an akuma) but refuse to take her miraculous (because they are better than that and Fu) and instead leave.

Marinette learns Alya is Rena Rouge after the latter stops working on the Ladyblog and instead opens up a new blog dedicated to general news in Paris. 

Carapace eventually appears as the occasional partner of Rena Rouge. He does what Rena Rouge says, but doesn’t feel right about what he’s doing. Out of all the heroes, he’s the one who inadvertently help Ladybug and Chat Noir the most, using his power when the heroes need it the most. Not that he’ll ever admit it...

Ryuko, Roi Singe, Viperion and Pegasus all appear earlier than canon due to Fu desiring to reobtain the rouge Miraculouses. Their group starts to become a trouble for the heroes, but Ladybug and Chat Noir pull through.

Although the new heroes attempt to come off as the good guys, their perception of them is mixed given how they interfere with Ladybugs job of purifying akumas. This does not mean they haven’t changed any opinions, as some people in Paris have started to resent Ladybug and Chat Noir, mainly for how their battles have started to affect Paris negatively.

Queen Bee however, comes as an Ally to Ladybug and Chat Noir, much to their suprise. After one of Fu’s transports goes wrong, the box ends up in the hands of Chloe instead of its intended target, who belives it to be a signal for her to help Ladybug and Chat Noir, much to the latter two’s confusion. Chloe eventually learns the truth about the situation, and ends up joining the rouge heroes as an ally. Although skeptical at first given who she is and the nature by which she joined, Ladybug and Chat Noir warm up to her, and eventually welcome her as an ally in the fight against Hawkmoth.

Jalil and Alix help by giving Ladybug and Chat Noir new power up’s via deciphering the miraculous book, as well as teaching them to unlock new abilities. Ladybug learns how to create objects of her own will using magic, while Chat Noir learns how to imbue his claws with destructive energy, making them capable of clawing through anything.

Cue Heroes day, and Scarlett Moth occurs. Due to the sheer amount of akumas, Ladybug and Chat propose an alliance with the Fu Squad, promising to return their miraculouses if the Fu Squad helps defeat Hawkmoth (given thats the whole reason they continued to remain heroes). The latter group agrees given the situation.

Working together, they take down the akuma army bit by bit and fight their way to the top, but Hawkmoth escapes thanks to the help of Mayura.

Ladybug and Chat leave before the Fu Squad can come after them. Despite seeing them leave, none of the heroes stop them, given how Ladybug and Chat Noir helped to save Paris and also the Fu Squad.

And so Ladybug and Chat Noir continue on, fighting akumas and the Fu Squad while working to take down Hawkmoth.

NS fanfics

Listen. I just want a fanfic that ends the way it should be. Naruto ‘saved’ Sasuke at the valley of the end after the 4th war. Sasuke doesn’t remain this evil guy who seeks to separate or kill Naruto, Sakura and the village again (even though he had valid reasons for why he wanted to). Sasuke is not an obstacle between Naruto and Sakura because he was not interested in a first place. (I see a lot of SS/NH shippers say that NS seem like siblings, but that is just not the case.  When I think of SS and NH all the feelings are one sided on Sakura and Hinata’s side respectively. Even though Sakura is canonically older of the three, Sakura reminds me of a girl who has a crush on the handsome older neighbor guy who is friends with her friend, Naruto who has a crush on her, and Sasuke in the equation treats her like a little sister. Absolutely NO INTEREST. Let me get back, I want Sasuke to have not gotten off lightly, but I also do not forsee him wanting to stay in Konoha. I want the truth about the UCHIHA MASSACRE to be revealed. Itachi is dead and gone, it is time for Sasuke to have justice and not people looking at him like he had no reason for doing what he did to Danzo. Plus it would be nice if people recognized just how much Itachi sufferred to protect the village (JUSTICE!!)

I want Naruto and Sakura and whomever else to be complacent in the fact that Sasuke isn’t going to go around doing evil things and let Sasuke travel around with Team Taka until he feels ready to come back to Konoha, and when he does feel ready he adopts Juugo and Suigetsu as Uchihas and they move into a compound in or just outside the village (I do not think Sasuke would be fine mentally to go back to the Uchiha compound so maybe he gives that as an orphanage space for kids who lost their parents, ect,), but Karin doesn’t want to be adopted because she loves him and they explore their relationship and talk out their issues/feelings. (SASUKARIN) 

Also Orochimaru is NOT given a pass to roam around Konoha freely and he is not given a pass to EXPERIMENT ON HUMANS which is what he was exiled for IN THE FIRST PLACE. NARUTO and the village as a whole are NOT OKAY WITH THAT. Orochimaru is under heavy surveillance, not doubting Yamato’s prowess but maybe chakra restraints on Orochimaru, idk the dude (?) is weird.

MEANWHILE 

Naruto and Sakura just as what was shown canonically hang out in Sasuke’s absence, occasionally meeting up with the other teams, squad leaders (funny Gai and Kakashi Inserts, Iruka (Iruka does not look 70, he looks as he should- younger than Kakashi). When they meet up with other teams, Naruto remembers Hinata’s confession, and feels that before he can confess to Sakura he goes to HInata to show her gratitude for putting her life on the line for him twice but tells her he cant return her feelings as his heart already belongs to one woman (just as Jiraiya did). (Also since NH like to try to spout BS about Hinata being a healer, maybe she actually healed Neji until more professional help came instead of just watching him bleed out right in front of her-a medic no matter where is supposed to heal, periodt!),  Neji is ALLLIVEEE.

After one particular outing, Naruto walks her home (not being forced but because he wants to) everything is calm and Naruto finallly confesses her feelings, he even tells her EVERYTHING, about disguising as Sasuke to kiss her. He either leaves to let her collect her thoughts but tells her he wont stop wooing her. Sakura does not need to react then and there. She starts to think of everything he has ever done for her, him encouraging her and protecting her and more, remembers the times Sasuke even told her how much Naruto cared like the gaara fight. How he is her motivation to become stronger. She thinks about how she had to revive him TWICE, how his heart was and is in HER hands and knows that they complete each other. Heaven and Earth symbols galore.

She finds him the next day (training with Kakashi/Tsunade or whomever as works on studying to become hokage (he is a good fighter, but needs to learn more leadership and hardships of a leader.-> I actually didn’t mind Kakashi as Hokage I do wish he did cooler things or was more badass as Hokage but I like the Idea of Tsunade passing down the mantle to Naruto.) SHE asks him on a date.(Now you know how symbolic this is). They walk together, Naruto fumbles/doesn’t know where to put his hands in nervousness until she uncrosses her arms from behind her back and takes hold of his hand with a blush on her face. Maybe a little clip/ image of their younger selves holding hands/walking together as they did. (I love younger Sakura’s cute little green dress).

Further down the line, Naruto reminsces about meeting Sakura’s parents for the first time and how accepting they were and no cliches about Mebuki knowing or being friends with Kushina. (Becasue i’m like why weren’t they more around Naruto even though his parentage was a secret anyone could look at his face and know that he is Minato’s child and thus Kushina’s, especially if they were close friends). OR maybe Mebuki remembers when she had invited Naruto over for dinner once or twice way when they were genin and she noticed how their personalities complimented then but said nothing because she knew Sakura was so Sasuke- focused then (I don’t like adding to much noncanon things but this is not bad). --MAYBE RTN COULD BE INPUT HERE INSTEAD to satisfy the whole meeting the parents concept.

On a Hinata note,  watanukisakuya has a good idea for rewriting the Last movie. This would show Hinata’s growth and ability to do something without thinking about n-n-naruto kun. I rather a badass mother and clan leader Hinata than a housewife (no offense to housewives but this is the ninja world hunny). I do not know who she would end up with but I admit to being biased to KibaHina ShinHina or maybe someone from within a clan. It would be cool if it was a lower branch member (not Neji they are cousins), and work to end the slavery (She sves her own family, especially out of gratitude for Neji, no help needed from Naruto).

The wedding

The night before I do want Naruto’s swing in frame (XD) think about his lonliness and the waterfall training with Bee when he thought about his anti self, to how much love he is receiving now and how happy he is. This would essentially be in Naruto and Sakura POV. This doesn’t need to take 40 minutes of characters finding gifts, but be focused on NARUSAKU’s journey together. Naruto thinks of all the people who have helped/supported him. I did like Iruka standing in as his father. I want Naruto to think about his parents and their sacrifice so that he could be here. Sakura remember’s Minato request of her to take care of his son and promises to do just that. Tsunade and Naruto thinks of Jiraiya.

Beocming Hokage

They do have their son Shinachiku, Hanami and Hanako, and Lastly Arashi. (Shinachiku is already born and twins are on the way, Arashi has not been concieved yet).

We finally get to see Naruto become Hokage.  Yes, Shikamaru is his advisor. (Even though I hate the Boruto series, I love the idea of a bond between their children).

 Naruto has to deal with the after affects of the war. Addressing smaller villages concerns about 5 nations having all of the power and wars that essentially hurt small villages the most. War relief fund set up between all the big villages to help smaller villages. (I do not know how to manage the ideas of the Daimyo’s v. leaders of villages yet.) Though Hinata would have dealt with Slavery in her clan, I would like their to be some failsafe that Narutoo put in place to make completely sure. I want Naruto to make sure that there is never another Danzo.

Sakura deals with the strains of motherhood, being a wife, and the head of the hospital, helping run the orphanage w/ Team Taka and Ino in the old Uchiha compound.

Naruto the Next GEN

It would not be titled after new character. Everyone did not pair up and have babies at the SAME TIME. Sasuke would probably have had a baby first out of everyone with Karin. I think NaruSaku would follow. Maybe Ino has a baby by the time NS are on the twins. SOME Pairings babies would be the same age, give or take a few months, but split up ages amongst the rest.

NO NO ASTRONOMY. I hate it. No trains. No futurama look to the village, Leave it as the same aesthetically pleasing rustic village look)

(Ninjas will be ninjas so people will still train, if not only to just defend themselves and keep the tradition alive (like dojos) but yes some people do fall off on being ninjas. Not as many people want it.) There are more jobs though.)

For some reason, I have the impression that the world of Naruto as we know it is not the entirety of the globe, so there are still other villages (Yes, they might have been caught up in the infinite tsukuyomi as well without knowing whats going on)..I don’t know if the other villages are evil or not etc)

The many things wrong with The Dreaming issue 5 (2019) ...I will not be kind...

Warning!  It’s long!

1.   Let us begin with the stupid Trumpisms.   I feel like Simon Spurrier thinks he has to punish or “re-educate” us poor, ignorant, Americans for electing Donald Trump.  It appears that no one has broken it to him yet that Trump lost the popular vote by over three million voters.  So why are we being punished because we’re stuck with him?  We’re already resisting as best we can or does he not watch the news? 

 There’s no way in Hell the color palette for this cover was an accident or happenstance.  For you non-Americans, the Republican (Trump) Party have a popular symbol.  An elephant that is usually drawn in red, white, and blue.

2.  The ugly and immature symbolism.   The Dreaming is bleeding color! (says the plot synopsis from the solicitations and DC Vertigo’s Facebook page).  Without diversity, without color, The Dreaming becomes bland, all white, and dreams die.  Do you know where I first saw this same literal story?   Rainbow  Bite in 1985!  Not only is it condescending and lacks the charm of the symbolism from The Sandman: Overture but it’s stolen, whether accidental or not, this is from a kids show from when i was a toddler in the 80s!    

3.   ‘Y’all.”   I know Judge Gallows is meant to be a cliche, old west style judge. But this is like watching a 1970s Doctor Who Brit actor put on what they think is an American accent.  The y’all(s) feel forced, and that takes a lot when it’s not said out loud.   He sounds like the damn chicken lawyer from Futurama.

4.    “His creator.”     It’s like Simon both knows and doesn’t know the original lore, all at once, it’s baffling.     As Lucien’s dying it looks like he’s half-reverted to a raven form.  @missghostlymoonshadow  you were right! 

 However as he was one of Dream’s ravens that indicates he used to be human (even if Lucien claims otherwise).   There was even some suggestion that he’s Adam.  Not sure about that as it’s very close to the novel Lilith but not impossible either.  

5. It’s Daniel the asshole, ladies and gentlemen!     I’ve complained about this before.  That whenever anyone other than Neil Gaiman writes Daniel, no matter how hard they seem to try, Daniel comes off as a f--king asshole.  Supposedly he has no choice, he has to leave.   But he’s so f--king cold here, so, so cold. 

You... Heartless... Little... Asshole...  

Morpheus was more kind to Dora in the flashback than Daniel is here!   WHY do people keep making Daniel crueler than Morpheus was pre-character-growth??!     Granted I’m starting to think there may be something wrong with Simon Spurrier, himself, that he thought what Lucien did on the steps of the castle with “I did warn you” is perfectly okay.  He doesn’t treat it like anything bad that he just uncreated a bunch of Merv’s friends on the steps of the castle.  In fact he treats Merv like he’s overreacting for being upset by it!  (Clearly he never read the start of Sandman: Overture or even The Dolls House.)  And yet we’re not supposed to be sympathizing with Merv’s behavior.  He made that clear.  Who (besides Dora) Are we supposed to care about?!??

His narrations try to keep us from pitying those that actually deserve pity.

Because how dare Cain actually give a damn that his brother is acting weird!

Unless Daniel turns out to be wearing a control collar ala X-Men, or has a magical-bomb implanted in his spine (Suicide Squad) this is going to be very hard for The Dream Lord to justify and even then it’ll be a little hard to forgive.  Daniel’s walking around, obviously still has access to some power.   Whatever his “I have no choice” is all about it seems like it can’t be quite equatable to Morpheus in the binding circle, in his glass bubble.   

6. I still want to know what the Hell happened to the griffon.   That griffon wasn’t of The Dreaming.  He was a gift from The Greeks.  Why did you replace him?  For the sake of cultural diversity?  There’s no in-story explanation.   Eve being any race she feels like makes sense.   But this doesn’t make sense and it’s jarring.  The Griffon wasn’t a dream entity.   See “The Wake.”

7.    Oh, look, someone skimmed Dream Hunters, or they didn’t and just picked up a few bits and pieces of Japanese folklore...

8.  MIlam Cascades is being far over-used and retroactively at that.   Trying to insert that into the original Sandman now doesn’t work.  I get the lore, I understand it’s origin, but really stop.  You’re just trying to make a mini Dream vortex.  or Vortexes... er Vortices.   

I NEVER want to be subjected to Milam Cascades again!  I’m starting to hate it as much as I hate the stupid revisions to Nuala’s necklace to make it a Macguffin, the existence of Echo, Cain and Abel’s sister wives, and Danny Nod.  (Creations from the first version of The Dreaming.) 

Do NOT retroactively describe things you want to insert into the original Sandman!  YOU are not Neil Gaiman!   Only he has a right to do that!  How dare you!

This is egotism. Not only is Milam Cascade being used as a mini Dream Vortex (the way Matthew’s death in the first version of The Dreaming was used as a mini knock-off of The Wake) but to have the audacity and arrogance to insert it into the original Sandman lore, to retroactively TAINT the original Sandman with this crap!    No.  if Neil, himself, did it, I would begrudgingly accept it.  But not here.  Not like this.   I don’t care if it’s “With Neil’s consent.”  He consents to a LOT of stuff, including the first, now defunct, version of The Dreaming.  

Wow, I’m more angry about that than I originally thought...

 9.   How dare you!  How DARE you do this to Lucien!    How dare you!   You saw how much it was despised that Matthew was killed off in the late 90s / early 2000s version of The Dreaming and yet you go and use Lucien like this?  And what’s worse is we’re supposed to pretend his behavior in issue 2 was okay because of it.  And no one reacted badly to him uncreating dream entities on the steps of the castle and acting like it was a form of punishment (”I did Warn you.”) except Mervyn, who was OBVIOUSLY in the wrong, because he’s an EVIL racist now!

 So, first you write Lucien badly, but I guess the memory fading was supposed to make that justifiable. Then you don’t even address that what he did was wrong, except through a character who you’ve gone out of your way to make unlikable and ridiculously out of character.   And now poor Lucien is dying and “Won’t be at peace in The Dreaming.” 

Thanks, Satan.

10.  Still no explanation for randomly turning Mervyn into a redneck Trump supporter and classist caricature.  The biggest OOC (Out of character) moment being when he made the “You people” comment to Erzulie in The House of Whispers comic book.  Do you not remember how Merv would look like a deer in headlights if caught backbiting Morpheus but you think he’d be racist to a Voodoo goddess to her face?!  This... Does not make sense...

Yeah, no....

He should be afraid Erzulie will turn him into a spiced pumpkin jam in her cupboard.  

11.   The only sword in Destruction’s realm should have been his own and he took that with him when he abandoned his post. (See Brief Lives.)

12.  He writes Cain as a knife-happy muppet that wants to stab everything.  We’re supposed to know something’s wrong with how Abel’s acting but this is what he thinks is normal for Cain?  Cain ONLY kills his brother, it’s his compulsion.  As they are both mostly immortal this is kind of a thing for them.  And Simon Spurrier has yet to justify having THE KEEPER OF MYSTERY spend nearly three pages explaining who and what he is.  (There’s no way in Hell he’s murder incarnate.  That’s like saying Bill Gates is Windows OS Incarnate.)

I’m okay with Dreamkin.  We can keep that term.  I’ve been trying to figure out what to call the creatures of the Dreaming for over a year and a half now.  Dreamkin works.     

The Morpheus flashback was... Okay...   I sort of liked those. 

Matthew’s still being written semi-decently.

The art is decent. 

There.  It’s done.  It’s written.   I’m going to go back to re-reading Goethe’s Faust again...

Dragon Ball 056

Goku chases General Blue into Penguin Village, where he meets Arale, the star of Dr. Slump.   It’s like when the Simpsons met the Futurama characters, only I’ve never actually seen that episode.   I know Bender and Homer drank together, but that’s about it.  Anyway, Arale wants to ride Kinto’Un, and she totally can because she’s pure of heart.  Also, the Ga-chans can ride it too, although they usually float in the air, so I’m not sure they’d even need to ride on the cloud at all.

Goku still has to track down Blue and get the Dragon Balls back, and Arale wants to help, so they’re all set.   Unfortunately, there’s no sign of Blue or the Dragon Balls at the site of the crash, so Goku has to assume Blue is still alive. 

Meanwhile, Blue has to hoof it through Penguin Village.   He thought he was heading for a Red Ribbon base, but now he has no idea where he is, or how to find transportation.   So when he sees a car coming, he stands in front of it and demands the driver get out.

Bad move, because this car is owned by a dude who just happens to be near a phone booth, and when he emerges...

Holy shit it’s Superman!   No, wait, it’s Suppaman, aka “Sourman” in the dub.   Because “suppa” means “sour” in Japanese, you see.   Suppaman talks pretty tough until Blue grabs the phone booth and crushes it in a bearhug.  

After that, Suppaman becomes very cooperative, although he has no idea what Hoi Poi capsules are, so all Blue can steal from him is his car.   He does inform Blue that the only airplane in town is at Dr. Senbei’s house. 

Look at this guy, he’s awesome.

Later, Blue has engine trouble, ans some kid shows up to help him.   I went ahead and looked this guy up, and he’s Obotchaman, an android boy created to rival Arale, but he ended up falling in love with her instead.   I guess he’s really smart, which is how he can fix Blue’s car. 

Unfortunately, General Blue is a little too grateful for his assistance, if you catch my drift.

Blue thinks Obotchaman is his “type”, which is pretty friggin’ unsettling.   Just in case there’s any confusion, he tries to get Obotchaman to come with him so he can buy him new clothes, and he gets upset when Obotchaman finally leaves.   I sort of wondered why Blue allowed him to go, but now that I know the kid is a robot like Arale, at least I know he never would have been able to keep him from leaving.  

So yeah, this whole gag aged really poorly, assuming it ever had a shelf life to begin with.  This scene doesn’t appear in the manga at all, so I assume someone at Toei had the bright idea to advance Blue from a homophobic stereotype into a pedophile.   It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, because Blue’s a pretty good villain otherwise.   The Funimation dub tried to salvage this by having Blue mistake Obotchaman for his little brother Samuel, which implies some sort of emotional story of how Blue lost Samuel long ago, but it doesn’t really square with the visuals.   Well, let’s move on. 

The local police stop Blue on the road, and he beats them up and takes their squad car.   This leads to a subplot where the PVPD thinks the Red Ribbon Army has invaded the town to turn it into a new base.  Later, Arale collides with the car and encounters Blue herself.

He doesn’t enjoy their company.

Later, Goku meets up with Arale, who has no idea that she just met the guy he’s looking for.   At last, Goku realizes that he can simply find Blue by tracking the Dragon Balls on his person.   Except the Dragon Radar is broken.  I was trying to think of how it got busted so soon after the last time Bulma fixed it, but then I remembered how he and Bulma kept swimming in that underwater cave, so it surely got wet a few times.   Arale suggests that he take it home to Dr. Senbei and let him fix it.

My thoughts on Crimes of Grindelwald have not yet hit any level of coherence, so I’m just going to do the drive-by shouty thing and leave them here.  Under the cut, because spoilers.

Warnings: spoilers.  Also unfiltered!Ri.

Things I Loved:

Pretty much all of the characters.  The cast is wonderfully talented, and I feel like they did a lot with what they had to work with.

IDK if this was a good thing or not.  I mean, as a fannish person I have been pretty much conditioned to love media where the cast makes the best of admittedly less than stellar writing, simply because I love the characters.  (See: Stargate Atlantis.  Also, Merlin.)

Newt and Jacob, eternal cinnamon roll squad.  Honestly, if the next three movies were just the two of them hanging out and being adorable cinnamon roll bros, I would basically be that gif from Futurama:

Newt and Theseus.  I just.  I love complicated sibling relationships, okay?  I really do.   I loved that it’s obvious that Theseus really does love his brother.  But he also very obviously doesn’t understand him.  That scene at the Ministry reads a lot like a neurotypical older sibling with a neurodivergent younger one; Theseus clearly thinks that everything would be so much easier if Newt were just a little bit less Newt, and doesn’t really get that Newt can’t.

Newt and Tina.  Oh my god, Newt and Tina.  Tina read Newt’s book.  I mean, I was totally with Jacob on team “don’t say that” when the salamander eyes thing came up.  And then it turned into this lovely way to demonstrate that Tina cares about Newt without beating people over the head.  Also, fire in dark water?  Damn, Newt.  A+ romance, go you.

Pretty much anything with Leta.  Holy shit, Zoe Kravitz knocked it out of the park.

Things That Drove Me Bonkers

Pretty much anything to do with the timeline.  I do not have anything new to say here that the rest of fandom hasn’t already said, so I’m just going to leave it at that and move on.

That fucking Tycho Dodonus prophecy.  Can we all agree that prophecy is a terrible narrative device?  Also, you did that one already, JKR.  Maybe try something new.

Literally nothing about Credence’s backstory -- imagined or otherwise -- made a lick of sense.  Do I buy Lestrange senior sending his infant son out of the country to keep him safe?  Sure.  Do I buy Lestrange senior sending his infant son out of the country to Mary Lou Barebone specifically without having some assurances that his heir would be returned to him unabused?  NOT SO MUCH.

Also, if he’s going to leave his heir in someone else’s care, why not leave Leta, too?  Lestrange senior clearly didn’t want her, being an aristocratic prick with no use for women outside of being how you get babies (preferably male).  It would’ve made a lot more sense to leave both his kids with Mary Lou.

What the fuck was up with Queenie.

Nagini.  I feel like they basically shoe-horned Nagini into the plot as a tie-in to the Harry Potter franchise, and then drastically underused the character.  Claudia Kim is a wonderful actress, and I think she could’ve done a lot more than just have Nagini function as Credence’s emotional support snake lady.

A Dumbledore?  Seriously?  

Mostly, I think that Crimes of Grindelwald was like watching the live action version of someone’s NaNoWriMo novel, where the author’s hit that panicked stage and basically goes, “well, it’s the word count that matters, I’ll go back and edit in plot and pacing later.”  And then no one did any editing.

Honestly, I think the whole thing would have driven me a lot less crazy if the bones of the story weren’t quite so good.  Because man, that movie could have been great.

Movies To Watch if You Ever Want To Cry

Wolf Children Ame and Yuki - Have you ever wanted to see what it’s like to be a single mother due to tragic circumstances, raise two lovely and cute children from infancy and then watch them grow up and move on from you? This is your movie.

The Prince of Egypt - Even though this movie does have a lot of strong religious themes, it isn’t too pushy on them and conveys them in a way that most fantasy and fiction movies do. Watch as you grow to love the characters, even the deeply flawed ones, and then watch them break apart or go through hardships.

Ed Edd N’ Eddy’s Big Picture Show - Even though it will be more heartfelt to long-term fans, if you know the simple premise and dynamics of the original show, this is a good one to watch. A lot of it is filled with comedy but there are many parts within it that invoke not only sadness but relief and contentment, especially the big reveal at the end.

Jersey Girl - Watch as a man falls in love with a wonderful woman and then watch as that woman dies in childbirth, the man loses his job, and that same man try to raise a wonderful daughter on his own while trying to let go of the past and move on to a brighter future.

Futurama: Bender’s Big Score - This movie is mostly a wonderful comedy with swiftly timed jokes and a stable plot that is not only enjoyable for newcomers but for long time fans of the show. There are many twists and scenes that will definitely make you cry as well as laugh.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army - Hoo boy, well, I was able to understand this movie before I read the comics or even watched the first movie, so if you have critical thinking skills the plot should be easy to understand. This movie pulls a lot of punches with its characters, and makes you feel and sympathize for them even between the gory and brutal action scenes. The relationships feel real and you can get a sense of joy when they succeed and sorrow when they fail.

Kaguya-hime no Monogatari - Based off of the Japanese myth of Kaguya, this movie takes you into what feels like a fantastical world based off of fantasies. The emotional turmoil of the heroine, Kaguya, will have you crying at the very least near the end.

Meet the Robinsons - Have you ever wanted a family that loves you, or even a family at all? Have you ever felt so worthless that you tried to do anything to have people want you? Do you feel as if you do nothing but fail? If so, you’re going to definitely cry about and relate to the protagonist and even the antagonists in this movie. Though over all, it is good at taking those things you’re sad about and cheering you up.

Rogue One - What are you doing? Go see this movie if you haven’t already.

The Last Unicorn - Ah yes, there’s nothing like a star-crossed romance and the process of learning that the world is bittersweet and cruel to get those tears a-flowin. The animation in this movie is beautiful despite the time it came out, and the soundtrack is unforgettable and entirely fitting to the film.

Up (2012) - You know why this is on here.

Train to Busan - This film is about a busy capitalist father and his daughter, a group of baseball teens, and an expecting wife and husband facing the beginning of an outbreak of zombies while on a train in Korea. This movie will play your heartstrings like the Devil plays a goddamn violin, it is a must see.

Romeo + Juliet - An exciting and colorful rendition of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”. The relationship between the Capulets and the Montagues was made a lot clearer to follow and the relationship between Romeo and Juliet felt much more real and passionate despite the short amount of time. You could sense the chemistry and the ill-timed infatuation of the two, and even get attached to their characters. A good adaptation for the modern age.

Inside Out - While the film does have its flaws, the experiences of the protagonist and the topics brought up within the movie are very touching and relatable for almost anyone. The movie itself is a fun entertaining one, and there are a few scenes that’ll definitely start up the waterworks.

Princess Mononoke - In this film, there really isn’t a clear-cut “good” or “bad” side. Both sides do bad and destructive things. Both sides are necessary and are needed in their own ways. And with the two protagonists, that distinction is made very clear. Beautiful heartwrenching music, stunning visuals, and characters so well-written they feel real, this movie is a must see for everyone.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - Yeah a lot of fans hate this movie but let’s be honest, no matter your thoughts on the series, Thorin’s descent into madness and then his death is utterly heartbreaking to watch, and made even sadder by the friendship (or potential romance depending on how you view it) between him and Bilbo.

When Marnie Was There - Ignore the lesbian undertones, you will be disappointed in where they lead, but other than that this is a beautiful movie and one I highly recommend seeing.

Mad Max: Fury Road - This movie is jam-packed with fast-paced action and loud fiery excitement but also lots of dramatic and heart-wrenching moments. You will end up caring about the characters and their world so their fates are made even more tragic in the end.

The Land Before Time - A baby Apatosaurus loses his mother and his home and goes through the 5 stages of grief.

Shaun of the Dead - A very funny take on the zombie apocolypse with a heart-wrenching scene near the end and a slightly uplifting ending. A must see for all fans of comedy and zombies.

Kung-Fu Panda 2 - Mostly filled with comedy and fuzzy and cute protagonists, this movie delves deep into themes like death, abandonment, inner peace, dictatorship, descending madness and genocide. A must see.

Heart and Soul - Four people with busy lives die in a bus accident just as a baby boy is born in a car that was nearby the scene. Those four people haunt the baby and become his guardian angels until he can grow up and finish their unfinished business. Very touching and highly emotional, this movie is a strong recommend.

Charlotte’s Web (1973) - I think you know why this is here.

Whale Rider - A young Māori girl wants to become chief of her tribe and tries to make her stubborn and closed-minded grandfather proud of her. While it has a happy ending, there are a lot of sad scenes in this movie.

Marley & Me - The dog dies. You get to practically raise that dog from when he was a puppy up until he gets old and passes away. That’s enough to make most people cry.

Spirited Away - A young girl’s family ends up in debt with the spirit world and so she is kidnapped and forced to work in a bath house for an unspecified period of time. The longer she stays, the more she forgets about her old life. A must see for anyone ever.

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants - Sounds shallow but was surprisingly deep and sincere on a lot of hard topics. Very strong in its female solidarity and very relateable and touching to many people.

Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch - Surprisingly, this one is more emotional than the first. Stitch is revealed to have a genetic problem with his body that causes him to “glitch” and ruin things. If this glitch is not fixed, he will no longer function and he will die.

All Quiet on the Western Front - I was never a fan of black and white movies, even less black and white war movies, but this was quite the surprise. Based off the book, the movie centers around a young man named Paul who enlists in the German army to fight in the war against France. Though it is dated, and some parts I did not agree with, you can still relate to things about most of the characters and feel bad for all of them for the things they have to witness and go through. No one is safe in this movie.

Holes - This movie is sad mainly because of Kate Barlow and Sam. It is the best book-to-movie adaptation I think humans will ever get.

Paranorman - It’s made by Laika what are you doing go see it!!

Kubo and the Two Strings - This one is sadder and also still made by Laika, go hecken see it!!!

The Rise of the Guardians - Abandonment and Isolation Issues the Movie.

The Game Plan - Dwayne Johnson plays an egotistical football star who finds out that he has a daughter who is now in his custody.

Monster Squad - A bunch of cool classic horror movie monsters come out to play in this feature-length film but also Frankenstein gets the friend(s) he deserves.

All Dogs Go To Heaven - A gambling stray dog manipulates a sweet young orphan into making him money to pay off a debt.

The 10th Kingdom - A young woman gets put into a fantasy world with her father by a prince who’s been turned into a dog by a witch who conspires to take the throne. She and her father try to find a portal home as the witch herself tries multiple times to kill them. There’s a lot of drama, cool fairytale references, and lots of smart writing and plot that A must see for most!!

Inspired by Martin Hanford’s Where’s Waldo books, Richard Sargent of Hopewell Studios has presented robot fans with a similarly awesome challenge: Find Pixar’s WALL-E amid dozens of pop culture’s most famous robots, then identify them all. The amateur robotologist who correctly identifies the largest number of ‘bots by August 31 will even be awarded a print from Hopewell.

Yep, my parents before I was born fell in love with this perfume, but didn’t know the name and started looking for it. Some time later they found a girl wearing it and asked her what its name was. In that period they were looking for a name to give me, so once they’d found out it was called Alyssa Ashley they liked the name and I ended up being called Alyssa. 2: When was the last time you cried? Really cried? I don’t know. But I cried today watching chicago fire if it counts. 3: Do you like your handwriting? It depends on the days and how much I concentrate on my writing.
