noooo how could you do this to me now im gonna go on a long rant
1) after sonic rivals sonic invites silver to go back to his timeline anytime he wants so he can give him a tour of past mobius(he feels bad bc its clear this hedgehog he just met has only known grief and suffering his whole life). silver is at first still wary of sonic just bc its in his nature to do so(left over from 06) but as he learns more about the past and about sonic he gradually warms up to him and eventually all his friends. this is basically my explanation for his attitude shift/character development from hostile to friendly in the later sonic games lmao.
2) sonic loves showing silver all the places and sights he missed due to his ruined future. strongest examples being the ocean, snow, and the stars(anything to do with nature really). he’s really happy that he gets to travel with someone who can catch up with him and doesn’t mind him constantly jumping from place to place.
3) silver has occasionally considered just staying in the past with sonic permanently, but he comes to the conclusion that it would be irresponsible of him to just abandon his timeline for his own selfish wishes(his own words). he has a period where he ignores sonic and tries to distance from him but sonic tracks his ass down and has a good talking to him about how its not wrong to take care of his mental health once in awhile.
4) for the sake of canon i’ll say that there’s only been one silver in the entire timeline(i have another theory that there’s multiple silvers but that would be way too complicated). whenever silver goes back to check on the future, sonic starts to miss him real bad and gets anxious that he might run into trouble and never return. he’s usually chill with his other friends being away(ex. knuckles and blaze) but bc silver is so far away and the future is so prone to getting fucked over sonic cant help but worry about his friend/maybe more than friend
5) silver never asks for anything but sonic is good at reading his cues and he absolutely spoils him with gifts he thinks he'll like cause what else is he gonna spend those rings on. He buys silver a bunch of books, gardening equipment, star charts, you name it. Silver doesnt even have a place to keep them so they're all piled up in a storage room in sonic's house for future use.
6) sonic has a stupid amount of nicknames for silver such as silv, silvs, silvsy, and maple(that's what his quills are based on)
7) as silver gets friendlier, he tends to use that friendliness to put on a strong face in front of other people and one of the only people he trusts to be more honest around and vent his frustrations to is sonic.
8) sonic is the first one to realize he has a crush and he has a mental panick over it before he tries to court silver(?) with the help of his friends except silver is dumbass and never catches on to the flirting or the gifts(sonic regularly gives him shit anyways)
9) sonic's efforts are all for nothing bc silver confesses first. He just has an epiphany one day and turns to sonic saying smth like "I like you, I think I have for a long time now."
10) I'm not good at established relationship hcs but uhhhh they have a long distance r/s cause of silver's time traveling. Tails makes a communication device that can work from the future and they regularly text each other. Silver is totally touch starved and craves hugs a lot. Sonic doesn't complain bc chest fur soft.
Extra) reverse sonilver** sonic has a mega crush on silver and makes super horrible flirt attempts with him every time he sees him. he’s literally seen the end of the world so he doesn’t want to have any regrets if he dies(of course he backs off if it seems like he’s actually bothering him). reverse silver is more uptight and on edge cause he’s expected to be constantly saving the world, so he doesn’t know how to deal with sonic lol. in truth silver likes him back but just doesnt know how to confess or how to even act in a relationship so he just says this is fine.
