"Huh?" the black haired pirate frowned in confusion when he opened his eyes, "Where am I?"

The Straw Hat pirates were looking down at their older captain who laid on the bed inside Chopper's office. The younger Luffy looked at his older self with a frown, inching his face closer to his older self, "You... you look familiar..."

Without a doubt, he was an older Luffy. But the real question was more... how the hell did he ended up here?

The older Luffy adverted his eyes away from his younger self, his eyes widening at the sight. It was his crew standing in front of him, but somehow they all looked younger...

"What happened- did we beat that guy?!" He straightened up suddenly, catching the pirates off guard, "Tell me, Zoro- Did I beat him?"

The older captain looked at the swordsman with big eyes, making the green haired look at his crewmates in confusion, "Well... since you're here right now... I'd say no- you didn't beat the guy"

"Wha..." Old Luffy frowned, but visibly softened when he made eye contact with a familiar pair of eyes. He straightened his arms wrapping them around your body, making you send a look to your favorite navigator, "(Y/n)!"

He threw himself on your body, almost knocking your over in the process. Older Luffy wrapped his legs around your waist clinging into you like a Koala, "(Y/n), you tell me... did I beat the guy?"

Your older captain hid his face in the crock of your neck, causing your present captain to glare at his older self, "I'm not sure, Luffy, but-"

"Luffy...?" The older captain pulled away from your neck looking at you with teary eyes, "Are you mad at me?"

The Straw Hat pirates looked at their older captain... was he really crying?

"W-What?! Of course not!" You softly replied trying to calm him down as he sat on the ground, "Why do you think that?"

"B-Because you never call me Luffy!" The older captain whined- and to think that your captain would've matured over the years...

"What do I call you normally then?" You asked, fumbling backwards when Luffy wrapped his arms around your waist once more.

"You don't remember...?" Luffy quietly spoke, "You always call me love... or darling."

You blinked repeatedly in surprise. Do you really call your captain 'love' in the future?

Sanji almost fell on the ground at the revelation, putting two and two together. Zoro smirked slightly when he finally understood, he sent a knowing look at his present time captain as he asked, "And how do you call her, Luffy?"

"Hah?" The older Luffy frowned at the swordsman, "What do you mean, Zoro? I call her "(Y/n)" obviously! That's her name after all!"

Robin slyly smirked at the two, "And... what did you say your relationship with (Y/n) was?"

"She's my girlfriend!" Older Luffy stated proudly, "But you know that... you're the one who told me to confess-"

With a quick punch, the older Luffy got thrown away from you landing on his face as he hit the ground. The present time Luffy slowly walk in front of you, tightly clenching his fists, "Who the hell do you think you are?!"

The older Luffy jumped up, titling his head to the side, "I'm Luffy! The King of the-"

"I am Luffy!" Young Luffy pointed at his older self, "Clearly you are just a weird me- So you can't just hug her like that! We don't even know you!"

"Don't know me?!" Old Luffy walked so that he was now face to face to his young self, "She's my girlfriend you idiot- so back the hell up-"

"Luffy..." Usopp spoke up, placing a hand on his young captain's shoulder, "Let me explain something to you."

After what seemed like an eternity, young Luffy finally understood the situation. Much to his older self dismay- "Let go of her!- Hey don't touch me!-

The older Luffy was being held back by Zoro and Franky as he disparately tried to get his younger self off you.

"No." Young Luffy cockily smiled at him, his body pressed unto you with his face pressed against your chest, "She's my (Y/n)- so go find yours!"

zoro :

"Hah? You two aren't dating yet? Shit my bad."

The older green haired swordsman fakely apologized to his younger self and the pretty girl beside him.

You snapped your head to look a the present Zoro, your face turning into one of disgust.

"Dating?!" The flirty cook was glaring at the older swordsman from afar, not believing that the two of them could possibly bee dating in the futur, "And you expect us to believe that Marimo?!"

It was no secret for anyone, you and Zoro hated each other's guts. So the idea of the two of them dating was kind of hard to believe.

"Eh?" The older Zoro glared at the younger cook, "I don't care if you believe me or not! You, come with me." The older swordsman then grabbed the collar of his younger self, ignoring his complains as he pulled to a more isolated place of the Sunny away from the loud crew.

"The hell you want, old man-?" The young Zoro asked as they came to a stop.

The older swordsman took a deep breath, gripping harder on his younger self collar, "I want you to listen carefully to what I'm about to say, kid."

"Kid-?!"

"If you mess up what I have with (Y/n) now, I swear on her life that I will find a way to hurt you and make you regret it, are we clear?"

The two swordsman stared are each other, before the younger one broke their eye contact, "How did you... you know?"

The older one laughed loudly when his younger self looked away from him with the red on the tip of his ears, "How did I get with her you mean?"

"You know what- if you're here to laugh I can just-"

"Woah there kid- It was just a joked!" The older Zoro sighed happily, turning his gaze to look at the quiet sea, "I bought her a necklace."

"A necklace." The younger Zoro deadpan at his words, what type of cliché thing was that?!

"I asked Robin to tell me what my birthstone was... and well I bought her a necklace with a green topaz and she never took it ever since..."

The younger Zoro nodded at himself as if doing he was taking notes mentally. The older swordsman sighted once more, "Just don't be scared to show her how you feel- She's kinda oblivious so you're gonna have to tell her that you love her, though"

"Heh?! Who said that I loved her, old man?!"

"You're my mini me, idiot! Obviously I know how you feel!"

sanji :

"Is she- Is she as beautiful as we imagined?"

"Oh~ She's 10 times better then we imagined"

You stood beside Nami with a disgust expression on your face, "I think I'm gonna throw up."

"Pleaseeeee," The pretty ginger laughed, "As if you're not happy that you're dating the love of your life in the future."

"Nami. I told you that when I was drunk!" You hit her shoulder, "You can't use that against me!"

The young Sanji dropped on his knees in front of you, taking your hands in his, his usual charming smile plastering his face. "(Y/n)~ my sweet, beautiful angel please date me-" He got interrupted by his older self.

"You're doing it wrong." He pulled young Sanji off his knees, "Let me show you how to do it."

The older Sanji walked over you, taking your hand in his, while his other arm sneaked around your waist pulling you closer to him. Sanji's blue eyes flickered between your eyes and your mouth, "You have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen, my love..." He then leaned closer to your lips so that yours and his were brushing against each other.

"You're just... so mesmerizing-"

"Alright!! I get it! Get off her!" The younger Sanji ripped you away from his older self, pulling you against his clothed chest. "You can go back to see your future (Y/n)- this one's mine."

"I was just teaching you the basics, Sanji! No need to get all protective- I get to touch my (Y/n) all the time and anywhere!" Older Sanji lit up the cigarette in his mouth, "But if you want a real tip, take her on a stargazing date, tell her how beautiful she is- because you really are, my angel- and how badly you love her- AND then touch her however you'd like!"

"Watch your mouth!" Nami yelled at the older Sanji. Her eyes then drifted to her two friends who refused to even laid an eye on each other, "huh?"

"Don't worry, love," The older cook reassured the pretty ginger, "I assure you that (Y/n) is more than happy to be with me..."

"Really...." The navigator trusted Sanji with her life- she just didn't trust him with a woman- especially not when the woman is her best friend.

"Yeah," The older man chuckled as he watch his younger self starting to talk to you with blood oozing out of his nose, "She even asked you to be her maid of honour last week- I mean... In three years or so, she'll ask you to be her maid of honour... So have some faith in me, yeah?"

"Her maid of honour...?" Nami looked over at you, your face redder than normal as the younger Sanji whispered sweet nothings in your ears.

"Angel?" the younger cook spoke in your ears as he placed a hand ion your cheek, "Would you like to go stargazing with me tonight?"

You laughed quietly at his words, "Is that a subtle way of asking the permission of touching m-"

"Of course not!" Sanji straightened himself, "You're so much more than a pretty body... Everything about you is just amazing-"

"Ah what a shame..." "Why's that, my love?"

"I would've given you the permission to touch me~"

"(Y/n)! You can't say stuff like that! He'll bleed out!" Chopper yelled as her tried to stop the bleeding from the cook's nose.

"I'll see you tonight, my sweet angel~" Sanji screamed with heart eyes, ignoring the fact that he was bleeding out.

"No you won't!"

Heck speaking of that last ask, whose to say even for Dick’s more professional and cordial moments with those outside his family or closest allies, whose to say those aren’t a front to mask his more serious and strategic cunning to through those other people off guard if they’re suspected of doing bad?

This actually happens in canon but this time it's within the family.

In Batman and Robin Eternal the whole Batfamily is forced to a clean up a lethal mess that Bruce wasn't able to solve during his and Dick's days. Their opponent is a woman named "Mother" for which she is aptly named because her brilliance and manipulation were so high that Bruce was forced to admit defeat, unable to deal with her.

During the investigation, the rest of the batfamily is blissfully unaware of Tim's actions, histories, and secrets-except Dick.

While leaving the rest of the family in the dark to avoid raising suspicions, he goes to get some answers.

Of course he would never betray his family's trust without some evidence.

While Jason and Stephanie are busy yelling at each other, Tim quietly sneaks away to answer a call by "Mother." Dick is at the Drake's while this is happening thus indicating that both Dick and Tim have their own share of secrets and battle plans.

He asks questions about Tim to his parents as if he's never met Tim before. Someone should get this man an Oscar.

Of course everything goes to hell when an operative of Mother's shows up and starts firing at Dick. Tim's mom utters a codeword that isolates her and Jack and also notifies Tim. Dick neutralizes his opponent.

And then Tim shows up.

"It's your secrets, Tim. I respected your privacy. Never looked too close, until that became a luxury I couldn't afford...I thought you weren't one of Mother's children. Hoped you weren't. But I had to know."

While Tim is rightfully hurt, but the thing is-they can't trust anyone right now because Mother, their enemy, is inseparable from the batfamily. She gets into people's heads and uses them as operatives over their entire lifetimes from childhood to adulthood. And first and foremost, Dick is a detective. It's ingrained into him to identify any threat and act accordingly.

This scene is extremely important because Bruce was almost killed by Mother and Dick loves Bruce. For his part Bruce almost killed their world just so Dick could live and reversely, Dick would do anything to make sure Bruce was safe.

But here's where Dick's manipulation and cheerful demeanor come into play. The batfamily has no idea how good Dick is at manipulating people.

When Dick runs off to do this, they only say

They have no idea.

Dick never does anything without a plan, a backup, and a safety net. The only mistake in their understanding is that while they think that Dick looks for a safety net second, they don't know that Dick's already created his own net and the one they see is the one Dick tossed out to his allies when he needs them to catch him.

Even now, Tim only found out because his mom activated the alarms in his house. If Dick's enemy hadn't blasted in and opened fire at him then it's suffice to say that everyone would be none the wiser about his little side quest.

I don't think the batfamily will ever realize how cunning he is. They see him as a kind older brother who is too adherent to Bruce's rules. Afterwards Jason makes fun of Tim in an older brother way by implying if he's mad at his mommy lol.

The DC vs Vampires and why every single member of the family was blindsided was because they underestimated him and never expected it of him. That's how good of a manipulator Dick is and that is why they will never know.

Tim once said Dick was "ranting and raving" in Arkham during Future State but for someone who had supposedly lost his mind, he still was the reason they defeated the government and came out on top. Future State: Nightwing is a peak example of Dick's genius when it comes to controlling people even if it seems like lunacy from the outside.

Everyone sees him as the nice one and Dick is the nice one of the family but when his family's life comes into danger he will unearth any secrets that he let you have in order to keep them safe.

So basically he'll let you do anything: keep secrets, lie to him, ignore him, but if you endanger his family he is coming for you because as the song lyrics goes-

"I may be next to you but you don't know I'm undercover."

And that is what makes his character so excellent. The greatest spy and threat the good has ever had.

This is my favorite personality trait of his because he's the James Bond and Mata Hari of DC.

Ever since he quit being Robin he hasn’t been around as much, much to your dismay. You miss his presence. A little to much to your liking. You might have a fiancé but at last, your heart belongs to another. You know it’s not fair to him, but you hope that in time you’ll forget about Dick and can bring yourself to love him. Though it’s been 2 years with him and you still do not love him the way you do Dick, you have faith that your heart will come around. Until Dick Grayson walts back into your life. Literally. He walked into the gala and asked for a dance, Dick being Dick, whisked you away to the balcony. He stops dancing once on the balcony and his demeanor changes from a playful to a much more serious one.

“Don’t marry him.” He states. Looking at you. Not as a question but as a command.

Not what you wanted to hear.

“What?” You say, shocked.

He sighs.

“Don’t marry him.”

“Why?” You say, your eyes almost squinting at him, darring him to speak.

He sighs.

“You know why.”

You shake your head furiously, closing your eyes, to afraid to look at him.

“No. No. No. You don’t get to do this to me Dick.” You say never once opening your eyes, afraid tears will well.

“Yes.” He states, reminding you of your petty childhood arguments.

You feel his hand reaching for yours, you instantly open your eyes and and move your hand away.

“No. Dick. Stop it. You’re being mean” your voice cracking as you speak. You lean your head back, to keep the tears at bay, “you don’t get to say that. Not when I’m finally happy with my life. Happy without you.”

You bring your head back to look at him in his eyes. Not caring if the tears fall.

Now it’s his turn to shake his head, “I know that’s a lie. I can see it in your eyes. You don’t love him. Trust me I know you, I can tell.”

“You don’t even know me anymore!” You shout, ”Two years have gone since I’ve last saw you. You are nothing more than a stranger to me”

“Don’t say that. I’ve know you my whole life. I’ve loved you my whole life.”

“No you don’t say that. I see the way you look at my sister. You have loved her your whole life.” You let out a quick breath, furious at him, “I have been second to Barbara my whole life in everything. I will not be second to her in love. And I won’t be the person you settle for just because you can not have her.”

You turn to leave but not before dick says one last thing, “it’s not like that!” His voice cracking, resembling his adolescence, “The love I have for you is different from the love I have for her. It’s you. You’re the one I choice to laugh with and to cry with. You’re the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. Everything I’ve done and will do is all for you. It’s you above everyone else in the world. I love you and only you.”

You sigh, looking him dead in his piercing blue eyes, a single tear dropping “Stop it. I won’t. I can’t do it, Dick. Not when I’ve loved you for eternity.”

With that you leave him there, staring at your back as leave to return to the gala. He can only watch as you are in another man’s arms. Maybe this is the last time he sees you. So he soaks it in no matter how much he longs for you to be in his arms.

He walks up behind you, dressed in all black, peering at the fresh earth piled on top of a new resting place.

“I thought you were with the titans” you told him, not even looking at him.

“I came as soon as I heard. We might have not been close but he was still my brother. Plus I couldn’t let you be here alone. Even if you despise me, I don’t despise you.”

A moment of silence.

“He could’ve been great.” You say

“I know.”

“Jason was the best of all of us.”

“I know.” He says putting an arm around you

“I’m gonna miss him Dick.” You let him engole you into a full hug. Pressing your head to chest. It brings you comfort.

You pull away, after a moment, wiping any tears that might have fallen.

“I’m not marrying him”

He turns to you.

“I heard about that.”

Before he can talk more you quickly say, “and you are under no obligation to say anything or do anything. It just didn’t feel right. We don’t need to say anything. That is that”

“Are you finished?”

You turn to him, to finally look him in the eyes, “yeah”

“Good cause now I can do this” he says as he brings you closer to him to touch your lips. He’s grabs your face, as a weak attempt to bring you closer than you already are. He can’t help it, he loves you, and he wants you to know it. It is like no other kiss you’ve had, it is fierce and passionate, as if he is trying to say a million words. It is a kiss of pure love.

You eventually pull away to gasp for air.

“That was nice” you say panting

He chuckles, “it was wasn’t it?”

Don't Want to Be Your Girlfriend

Thank you @1-800-eat-shit for the prompt based off the tweet. I tried my best. I know this one is pretty short but I promise the third one you sent in will be longer. This another proposal story.

“I don’t want to be your girlfriend anymore.” Robin stated easily. 

She was sitting across from Nancy. Candles lighting up their faces. Plates empty. Robin’s fingers were tapping the table. She had watched Nancy’s finger circle her wine glass until she had spoken those words. Because the second the words slipped out Nancy’s hand stilled and her smile fell. 

The words sunk in and Nancy could feel the stabbing pain in her chest. The last thing she had been suspecting when she saw the candlelight dinner Robin had prepared for her was that this would be a break up dinner. A soft goodbye that would never truly be soft because losing Robin was like cutting out half of Nancy’s organs. She opened her mouth to say something, anything, ask for an explanation or beg for Robin to reconsider. She had never been a beggar but this time she would swallow her pride.  

“I don’t want to be your girlfriend anymore because I want to be your wife.” Robin spoke up first. She got up from her seat and dropped down to one knee. 

“Are you insane? I nearly had a heart attack. I thought you were leaving me.” Nancy shouted back, the pain fading away, her hands were still shaking.  

“I could never, Nance. I could never leave you. I’ve never loved anyone like I love you and being your girlfriend is no longer enough for me. I know that not much would change. I’d still get to come home to you and you will still tell me about your day. I’d still get to kiss you and cook you mediocre meals. You’d still curl up next to me on the sofa and fall asleep during a movie that really doesn’t deserve your attention. I’d still carry you over to our bed and hold you through the nights. But just knowing that you are my wife would mean so much to me. And I know you don’t really want to get married and I’m kind of putting you on the spot here so feel free to say no but will you marry me, Nance?” Robin’s hands were shaking too.

Nancy had said she didn’t want to get married. She’d told Robin that in the summer of 1986 when she had yet to break up with Jonathan despite the growing feelings that lingered in the space between her and the girl that was now kneeling in front of her. But it wasn’t 1986 anymore and she wasn’t dating Jonathan Byers anymore. 

Instead she was dating the most ridiculous girl she had ever met. She considered saying no just to scare Robin as much as Robin had scared her but she knew it wouldn’t work. Robin would hide the hurt behind comforting words and a soft smile and Nancy would feel guilty for the rest of the evening. So, she buried that plan. 

“Of course I’ll marry you, Robin.” 

“You will?” And Robin sounded genuinely surprised by the response. 

Nancy slid to her knees in front of her girlfriend, fiancée?, and grabbed Robin’s hands. “You will have to promise me one thing though.” 

Robin nodded. “Of course.” 

“Please never scare me like that ever again. I don’t know what I would do without you, Robin. So, yes. Yes, I’ll marry you. I’ll marry you a thousand times over. I love you, Robin Buckley.” 

“I love you too, Nancy Wheeler.” Robin beamed. “Oh wait, the ring. I bought a ring.” She pushed her hands in her jeans pocket and came back empty. “Shit, it’s here somewhere.” 

Nancy leaned back and watched her future wife scramble and turn and search for her engagement ring. Her heart had finally settled back into a normal pace, a smile overtook her face and she knew that spending eternity with this clumsy girl that finally pulled a silver band with a diamond out of her coat pocket and held it out was going to be the blessing she had been begging for at 17.

The Gotham night was as unforgiving as ever, echoing the tumultuous state of my heart. The weight of our recent fight still clung to my thoughts, its aftermath casting a shadow over our once vibrant relationship. As Red Robin, I soared through the city, seeking solace in the streets I patrolled, but finding none.

My mind replayed the heated words and accusations that had been exchanged between us. The pain and frustration in your eyes were etched deeply into my memory. Each passing moment without you felt like an eternity, and I couldn't shake the guilt that washed over me.

How had we reached this breaking point? The realization that I had pushed you away with my stubbornness and inability to see beyond my own perspective hit me like a punch to the gut. Our shared dreams, laughter, and moments of tenderness now seemed distant, slipping through my fingers like sand.

I thought about the countless nights we spent discussing cases, our minds intertwined in the pursuit of justice. The way your smile lit up a room, and how your laughter filled my soul with warmth. The chemistry we shared was undeniable, but somehow we had become entangled in a web of misunderstandings and hurt.

As I soared higher above the city, my thoughts wandered back to the fight, dissecting every word, every silence that had fractured our bond. I had failed to communicate effectively, to truly listen and understand your perspective. And in that moment, I realized the magnitude of my mistake.

Regret gnawed at me, threatening to consume me whole. The pain of losing you, the thought of a future without your presence by my side, was unbearable. But I had to face the reality that I had caused this rift between us, and now it was up to me to find a way to mend what was broken.

The night air whispered its secrets, offering me a moment of clarity. I knew I had to confront my shortcomings and apologize for my part in our unraveling. If there was even a sliver of hope left, I had to fight for it.

Descending from the rooftops, I made my way to your doorstep. The weight of my heart felt heavier with each step, the anticipation mingled with trepidation. I knocked softly, my hand trembling slightly. The door creaked open, revealing your weary but beautiful face.

"Tim," you murmured, your voice filled with a mixture of surprise and sorrow.

Taking a deep breath, I looked into your eyes, hoping you could see the sincerity in mine. "I'm so sorry," I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper. "I let my ego and stubbornness cloud my judgment. I pushed you away when I should have been fighting for us. You deserved better than that."

Your gaze softened, and for a fleeting moment, I glimpsed the flicker of hope. "Tim, it's not just about the fight," you replied, your voice trembling with vulnerability. "It's about the patterns, the lack of trust and understanding. We've been drifting apart for a while."

I felt a lump forming in my throat, realizing the truth in your words. It wasn't just about one fight; it was the accumulation of cracks that had grown wider over time. But I couldn't bear to let go without trying to mend what we had lost.

"I know I can't undo the past, but I promise you, Y/N, that I will do everything in my power to rebuild the trust we've lost," I pleaded, my voice filled with desperation. "I love you, and I'm willing to put in the work to make things right."

Silence hung in the air, the weight of uncertainty enveloping us both. Your gaze held mine, searching for sincerity, for the remnants of the love we once shared. And then, with a sigh, you nodded slowly.

"I still love you too, Tim," you admitted, tears brimming in your eyes. "But it's going to take time. We need to rebuild the foundation of trust and communication. Are you willing to do that?"

You once said you liked the idea of Gotham future state jaytim, even though they don't interact that much in it. Why is that? (Not trying to judge, just curious).

No problem!

In Robin Eternal, Tim basically dies, except he’s covered in Lazarus Goo so he turns immortal instead. I think that’d make for a VERY interesting dynamic with Jason, considering his own Lazarus experience. 

We also have both Steph and Jason going undercover for while, which could mean two of Tim’s Messy Exes pretending to turn evil, and I find that both deeply heartbreaking and very funny.

And in the middle of that you’ve got Cass, who shares both the Lazarus trauma and the messy ex issue (I can’t read Future State Batgirls any other way y’all). I just really like the idea of both Cass/Steph and Tim/Jason gradually rebuilding their relationships as they keep fighting in the resistance.

DC STUDIOS ANNOUNCEMENT

James Gunn and Peter Safran, the heads of the new DC Studios, finally announced a small part of their 10-12 year plan for the new DC cinematic universe.

Like the MCU goes in Phases, the DC films will be presented in Chapters.  Chapter One is entitled Gods and Monsters, and includes the following films:

Superman: Legacy - yet another reboot of Superman, scheduled for July 11, 2025.

The Authority - the Windstorm characters getting introduced in =to the mainstream DC Universe.  I think this  is a huge mistake, both in films and in the comics.  The Wildstorm characters work best on their own world, especially as many of them are analogues of already existing DC characters.  And at this point and time, grim and gritty has been done to death.

The Brave and the Bold - Batman (Bruce) and Robin (Damian), supposedly inspired by Grant Morrison’s stories (although Dick Grayson was the original Batman Damian worked with).

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow - a science fiction adventure based on the recent Tom King=written limited series.  While I admire the story King was trying to tell, it wasn’t really my cup of tea.  And he has earned my eternal wrath for what he did to Krypto!

Swamp Thing - a film about Swamp Thing (natch!).

The Batman: Part Two - the continuation of Matt Reeves’ noir Batman, set in its own universe.  Scheduled for October 2025.

Then there are television series:

Creature Commandoes - an animated series Gun wrote featuring Amanda Waller putting together a black ops team consisting of monsters.  This is probably the mysterious unnamed series Gunn stated a few weeks ago that he was working on.

Waller - a series starring Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and featuring the Peacemaker crew.  Not wild about this as I have always found Waller to be a detestable character, and certainly not one that should be leading a series.  This  also probably means we’re not getting a real second season to Peacemaker, which is a shame.

Booster Gold - Booster being Booster: trying to pass himself off as a great superhero using his future tech.

Lanterns - a series described as “True Detective with space cops,” this is what is replacing the previously announced Green Lantern series at HBO Max.  This series features Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Paradise Lost - a series set on Themyscira (Paradise Island) focusing on the intrigues and politics on a island of just women.  So, a Wonder Woman series without Wonder Woman.  I absolutely hate these type of series.  I would rather have another Wonder Woman film with Gal Gadot, thank you.

According to Gunn, this list is not all inclusive of everything coming in Chapter One.

Before any of this happens, there are still the upcoming films Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Blue Beetle.

Gunn stated that events in The Flash “resets the entire DC Universe” (I guess it’s a version of Flashpoint), and that Aquaman “leads directly” into Chapter One.

I’m not real excited by what I see so far, although The Brave and the Bold could be fun if done right.  And I’m downright not looking forward to a couple of these (The Authority, Waller).  I’m going to go into “wait and see mode” and hope for the best.

That is if my ancient, dilapidated carcass manages to live long enough to see any of these come to pass.

Which is HIGHLY unusual because there's usually tie-ins but this was so bad it has been collectively ignored by virtually the entirety of DC. Please don't read Arsenal/Red Hood for Roy's sake. He is way more than that. It's just so frustrating because the three comics were supposed to be one of the main comics for him but Scott Lobdell does such a fantastic job desecrating people that there aren't a lot of other good comics focused solely on Jason Todd to read.

Have you had a chance to read Tim drake: robin yet? It’s been… uh… divisive to say the least

Of course it's divisive -- a loud, obnoxious chunk of "comics Tumblr" doesn't actually like or read comic books, they just make up their own bullshit so they can whine when canon doesn't match up to it and feel superior to the pro creators without having to put in any actual work.

I liked the first issue, personally. The art takes some getting used to but the stylization is fun, it's very expressive and suits the tone well. The idea of Tim taking on a villain who uses some kind of superpower to play out classic mystery stories is really fun and suits Tim perfectly -- the kid was a canon member of the Baker Street Irregulars at 13, he's always been a mystery nerd. I'm intrigued to see what happens when/if they start taking on stories that don't have animals as the central antagonist, and the foreshadowing was very rewarding.

I like the setting, too. It's a new, unique part of Gotham, and I like the emphasis on how Tim cares about his community -- that one panel where he describes all of his neighbors is one of my favorites, it's so true to his character (and in stark contrast to some of fandom's dumber misinterpretations of that character). It's a shame that two of those characters were apparently introduced just to die but still, it's a nice touch.

And y'know, as much as I think Darcy could've gotten a better introduction -- she comes out of nowhere if you skipped Future State: Robin Eternal -- I like her. I think she's cute and fun and clearly some variety of queer in addition to her hearing aids. I like that she gives Tim a supporting character to shoot the shit with who's in the know but isn't an established hero who'd feel like they were playing second fiddle -- unlike, say, Rose Wilson and Connor Hawke over in Damian's series, or Cass in Batgirls. Kinda the same way I felt about Bernard being his closet key; when it's a supporting character who already exists primarily in his orbit, it feels less egregious when the focus is fully on Tim. (So long as they still feel like characters with lives outside him, of course, which imho Darcy and Bernard both do).

TL;DR -- I like it, it's different but it's fun and I'm looking forward to seeing where it's going.

Alright, so I put together a Twitter thread about the recent queerbaiting that DC has pulled with Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain. It's an interesting and frustrating story so I decided to repost it here. There is a demonstrable shift in how the two have been written in Future State and beyond. This is a long post but I wanted to be thorough.

First, some background: One thing that frustrated a lot of fans about Steph and Cass's friendship between Batman and Robin: Eternal and the beginning of Joker War was that there wasn't much interaction between them at all. They became friends off-panel,  and Cass and Steph's relationships with Harper and Basil, and Tim respectively were much more heavily focused on than theirs. This led to the finale of Detective where they embrace feeling a little hollow for some. This changed w/ Joker War where we finally saw them being friends and they first started building hype to what seemed like an inevitable “Batgirls” comic.

It should be noted that this period where they weren't interacting much was also the time where we first got textual indications that they're both attracted to women, though it was never "confirmed" in that exact language.

Alright, preamble out of the way, let's get into the issue at hand. The story starts with Future State, which is really the REASON why everything else is so bad. The bait here is INTENSE. Throughout the story, Stephanie CONSTANTLY uses terms of endearment that are... well, it's literally just flirting. While it might seem like just taunting at first, the fact that she keeps doing it AFTER dropping her act says otherwise.

This alone would've been pretty blatant subtext... BUT the comic goes further once Cass starts opening up about things. The implication is extremely strong here that the two were romantically involved before and, by the end, are heading towards that again.

At this point, the only thing keeping it from being official was confirmation BY the writer and sure enough... The editor for Batgirls posted this panel in direct reference to the upcoming book and the Future State writer retweeted it with the bi pride flag colors and two girls holding hands.

That last bit is VERY important to remember going forward because some of what I post after this might not seem like bait out of context but remember this is the expectation Future State set: that Steph and Cass WOULD eventually get together.  With that in mind, let's look at Batgirls. First, the backup story leading to the ongoing comic itself, which features lots of affectionate body language and Steph and Cass sharing a bed at a hotel. Not inherently bait but in the aftermath of Future State it comes across as a reinforcement of what that comic had promised.

With the comic itself, the most bait-y stuff isn't in the pages of the comic but in how it was promoted. The solicitations talk about "their love for each other" and how laying low is "that much easier to bear because they have each other".

Variant covers added fuel to the fire: Steph and Cass holding hands next to a pair of conspicuously rainbow-colored skis and Cass falling asleep on Steph's shoulder could be dismissed as a coincidence, but having them write "XOXO Cassie+Steph" on the Valentine's Day cover is... less subtle

Within the pages of the book itself, the baiting is more restrained, restricted to Steph using some of the same flirtatious language as in Future State and a rather suggestive panel of their faces VERY close together as Cass holds Steph affectionately.

MOST of this stuff isn't particularly egregious individually, but when put together shows a clear pattern, and so it shouldn't be surprising that when THIS line showed up in the solicits for Batgirls #9, a lot of people had some hope they were FINALLY doing something.

But nope. The solicitations for the next issue confirm that what's ACTUALLY happening is that Stephanie is being paired with a new male love interest who, based on the cover, seems to be Kyle Mizoguchi, brother of Maps Mizoguchi from Gotham Academy. 

I think with all that put together there's a pretty clear case for this having been intentional bait on SOMEONE'S part. It's pretty frustrating to have your hopes built up (even to the tiny degree I allowed myself to hope) only to have one of the characters paired with the most random man possible.
