Part 5:
There’s going to be a couple of more parts for the “First Meeting” Saga but then I’ll move on to singular one shots.
River winced as he felt the needle prick his skin. Nothing new, nothing serious. He’s made his own clothes and even repaired his tent a few times. He didn’t mind giving himself a job to make something for Little One. He took the old gown that the child was wearing and took the basic measurements from that. They’re going to have to burn it later or something. He didn’t want to make assumptions, but he had a feeling that something bad happened to Little One. Whether it was from the orphanage or what happened after he got out, it caused him to be scared of strangers. Little One hasn’t spoken yet, but he didn’t need to in order to show that something had happened.
No. He can’t think about this. At least not until it becomes important. He didn’t want to say it out loud, but because he was the eldest, he felt like he might have to be the one responsible for everyone else. He can’t explain why he felt like that, it was just instinct. It felt strange really to think and feel like that. Oh well.
River smiled as he put the finishing touches to his work. It wasn’t perfect, but that’s what made it fun. Who said that Snufkin’s smock had to be perfect anyway? After adding the final stitch and checking over what he deemed as his masterpiece. He smiled as he came out of his tent. He had a feeling that Little One will love his new garment, even if it’s made out of old materials. He strode out of his tent. Mumriken was sitting by himself, detangling some fishing line that he had. Samur was down by the river, washing the dishes from his morning. Jasmine seemed to have disappeared into his tent doing who knows what. Feltin had Little One wrapped up in his coat, seemingly done with giving the id a well deserved wash.
“You done here Feltin?” River asked as he approached the two.
“Just drying Little One off. Almost wouldn’t think that he was the same kid.” Feltin grinned, ruffling the boy’s hair a little. Little One whined and ducked away from the hand. Guess he wasn’t happy about the unexpected bath. At least he was clean and everyone can have a better look at him now.
“Definitely a lot better. I made something for you. Can’t exactly let you run around in those rags.” River smiled, holding the garment up for Little One to see. Little One’s eyes seemed to light up upon seeing the item of clothing. River couldn’t stop smiling as he gestured for Little One to hold his arms up. When the child obliged, he gently slipped the smock on with his head popping out almost right away. River helped with dressing the rest of him up before he stepped back, admiring his work. The smock was a bit uneven. It was made from different materials that River had to spare. Different shades of green and one sleeve that was a dark red. While the green sleeve was a normal length, the red one was longer and reached past Little One’s hand.
“There we go. Perfectly imperfect!” River grinned with pride as Little One’s curious eyes looked over his new clothes.
“Isn’t that sleeve a bit too long for him?” Feltin asked, an eyebrow raised at the long sleeve.
“Perfect for smacking Park Keepers.” River returned with a devious smirk.
“Smacking Park Keepers huh? I like your thinking.” Feltin smiled, looking just as mischievous upon hearing that. Better start Little One off while he was still young. Mumriken happened to look up at what the three were up to and smiled upon seeing Little One’s new look and clean face and hair. He placed the still tangled fishing line into his pocket and strode over to them.
“So this is who was hiding behind all that mud. Nice work you two.” He smiled, keeping a distance. He thought that three Snufkins being too close to Little One at once would be a bit much. Little One let a small smile make itself known before he suddenly spotted something by the river. He suddenly started going over to what he had spotted, going as fast as his little legs could carry him.
“Where’s he off to?” Feltin asked, scratching his head before picking up his damp coat. He’s going to have to dry it of somewhere.
“I think that he’s going to where Samur is.” Mumriken answered as he realised that’s where the tallest Snufkin was.
“Huh. Wonder why.” River muttered, watching as the toddler stopped near the tallest Snufkin. Samur didn’t seem to notice until he felt something small tug on his sleeve. He was a little surprised by that, but smiled when he saw the child standing right next to him.
“Oh, hello there.” He smiled, placing the dish that he was cleaning next to him. Little One looked at him curiously, even tilting his head a little. Samur briefly wondered if Little One was asking what he was up to or if he could hang around him for a little bit. “I’m afraid that you’ll find this very boring. Why don’t you go play with one of the others? It’ll be better than hanging around me.”
Little One glanced at Samur a little more, processing what he was told. He then tottered back up to the three Snufkins that had been watched him curiously. He then heard Jasmine emerging from his tent, carrying a fishing rod and bucket. He started to walk away, oblivious to the four Snufkins that were watching him.
“Where are you off to?” Feltin asked.
“What’s it look like? I’m going fishing.” Jasmine shrugged. Little One stared at him curiously and tilted his head before pointing. “What?”
“I think he wants to look at your fishing rod.” Mumriken suggested, looking at what the child was pointing at.
“Well…he can see it can’t he? Besides I don’t want him to hurt himself on the hook.” Jasmine shrugged with a bit of a frown. He ignored everything else as he started to head to a seemingly quieter spot along the river. “See ya later.” Jasmine didn’t wait for anyone to stop him as he disappeared to the far side of the river. It was a good enough distance away to not be disturbed.
“Well, that was a little cold.” Feltin muttered, watching as Jasmine walked off.
“If you’re not used to small children nor taken care of them before, I suppose it’s kind of natural.” River shrugged. Even he had to admit that he had never taken care of kids before, but even he didn’t feel cold towards Little One. Maybe he didn’t want to admit it, but he wondered if Jasmine was scared about taking responsibility for the child or he was just being too stubborn to spend time with him. It could be a problem if they don’t deal with it in the future.
“Okay…if it’s all the same to you, I was going to go explore the woods.” Mumriken offered, gesturing to the wooded area. He had been meaning to go there after they finished settling in to this new area. “Maybe try to find anything that we can use as resources.”
“Good plan. Take someone with you.” River agreed.
“I was going to take Little One.” Mumriken smiled, gesturing at the child. Upon hearing his given nickname, Little One looked up at him curiously. “Figured that he’d want to have a proper look around now that he’s out in the open.”
“Someone older.” River insisted.
“I can handle myself and keep an eye on Little One on my own.” Mumriken tried to convince the eldest.
“We don’t know what’s in there. What if something happens?” River pushed, not backing down from this arguement. “You’ll need someone else that’s capable with you.”
“What you’re saying is that you don’t trust me, right?” Mumriken frowned, crossing his arms. He can’t believe this. He has dealt with everything life had thrown at him since he was small. He can take care of himself very well, even the adults back in Moominvalley have mentioned it. So to be treated like he didn’t know any better was very foreign to him. He’ll just have to prove himself somehow. But for now he’ll just oblige with what River was asking of him. “Fine.”
Little One had been watching and listening to what each Snufkin was saying. Upon hearing that Mumriken needed to choose to go with someone else, his gaze immediately fell onto Samur. Without warning, he ran up to the tallest Snufkin again. Samur hadn’t been paying attention to what Jasmine was doing or what the eldest and second youngest were discussing, more focused on his own thoughts and what he was doing. So when he felt tugging on his smock, he was quite surprised.
“Changed your mind?” He asked. Little One didn’t respond verbally, but only tugged on Samur’s smock more, looking determined. “What is it?”
“I think that he wants you to come with us.” Mumrik concluded, scratching his head. Samur almost dropped the dish that he was holding in surprise. Why would Little One would want Samur to join him and Mumriken all of a sudden? Before, Little One wouldn’t get that close to anyone. Honestly, because he was the tallest, Samur thought that Little One would rather go with one of the others since they were shorter than him. He thought that his height would be quite intimidating to Little One. Apparently not.
“But-” Samur started, wanting to finish off his current task, and wanted to try to convince Little One to pick someone else. However, River gently took the dishes and cloth from his hands.
“I’ll take over for you.” He insisted, giving a patient smile.
“You sure? Thank you.” Samur asked before reluctantly accepting the help. He then felt the tugging on his smock becoming more persistent. He stood up with a small smile. “Alright, alright, I’m coming.” Little One grinned smugly before he pulled Samur’s hand in order to get him to move faster. Samur gave up and walked over to Mumriken with Little One running on ahead for a moment before looking back and making sure that they were following him.
“I think he really likes you.” Mumriken smiled as they started to catch up to Little One while he waited for them.
“What gave you that idea?” Samur asked with a raised eyebrow.
“He hasn’t done anything like this with me and I was the first one to connect with him.” Mumriken explained, continuing to smile encouragingly.
“Strange.” Samur muttered before he called over to Little One, who was running on ahead of them a little bit too far. “Little One. Slow down a little bit.”
“Well, they do say that some kids have good intuition.” Mumriken grinned as Little One once again waited for him and Samur again. River and Feltin watched as they started to disappear into the tree line. Seemed like things were slowly getting into place. Once everything has settled completely, they might be able to come up with a good routine in order to keep things running.
“With that settled, I’m going to make some bark boats.” Feltin grinned with a small shrug.
“Why?” River asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Because I enjoy doing it.” Feltin grinned more before he took off to find the materials that he needed for his crafts. River only stared at him confused before shaking his head with a grin. He still felt like he should be responsible for everyone. But for now, he’ll just let them go back to their own devices until he needs to intervene. It seemed right to do that for the time being. A part of him briefly wondered if this was normal. It almost made him feel like he was taking care of five younger brothers all of a sudden. It felt strange to think that, but he didn’t dwell on it for too long. This was definitely a strange time indeed.

In a fight between Fuzzy Felt Snufkin, 60s Snufkin, 70s Snufkin, 90s Snufkin, and 2019 Snufkin, who would win?
(Assume for the sake of the argument that they have all been placed into an enclosed arena and do not have time to strategize.)
Hello,
Fuzzy Felt Snufkin would win. This is because he's so small that the other Snufkins forgot about him. They all killed each other and Fuzzy Felt Snufkin was none the wiser.
Have a Moominous day!

My moomin ocs Nel and Nellie
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve been doing a lot of diving into the Moomin verse lately, that franchise has always seemed so lovely to me but I’ve never really looked at it closer until now. It is so great! I wish I grew up with it, but alas I am an American and it makes sense I only found out about it’s existence a few years ago. I am in the process of watching the 90’s anime series at the moment, but I may also visit the “fuzzy felt” adaptation since that seems to be the most accurate. But I am reading the original books too so there’s that. Lots of ideas for Christmas! I want to say Snufkin is my favorite character so far, but… Little My…. She’s a special little gremlin I love her
Also, naturally, Nellie and Nel are dinosaurs. Duh. Nellie is a velociraptor and Nel is a Microraptor.
Tumblr media
I will make proper moomin fanart soon though!! For all of you Moomin enthusiasts… :3

Little Snufkin ☆
Tumblr media
○ Sometimes Snufkin finds it very difficult to express his emotions in a healthy way. Regression is usually the aftermath of bottling up far too many big feelings, for him.
● Snufkin prefers to keep his regression a secret at all costs. He doesn't want anyone else to see all the ugly emotions and feelings he holds back. And he most certainly doesn't want to be coddled or looked down on because of it.
○ He doesn't actually have any little gear, at least, not really. But he does have a special fuzzy blanket that comforts him greatly on little nights. And honestly, he doesn't feel he needs any more than that. He's content with little.
● When he does regress, it's pretty much guaranteed he'll be in babyspace. And he hates that he's always so tiny. It makes him want to push off regressing for longer because he knows it'll leave him feeling far too helpless and invulnerable for his liking.
○ Regressing to babyspace also comes with unforseen consequences he wishes he could ignore. Like having an accident and not being able to clean up, or accidentally hurting himself because he's too stubborn to realize he needs help.
● One year, when he had returned for spring, Moomin gave him a gift. Even though he knew Snufkin doesn't like keeping many possessions, he felt this would be special enough for him to want to keep.
"It's for you. So you're not always so lonely when you're traveling for the winter." Moomin said.
It was a little handmade plush that looked like a moomin.
Snufkin laughed and smiled. It was silly, but it was also incredibly sweet and thoughtful. He tucked the plush inside a small pocket on his bag, leaving the top open so it looked like the moomin was peeking out of the bag.
He wouldn't admit it to Moomin, but it did, in fact, help comfort him a lot. Especially on sad little days filled with tears and wallowing in regret. He promised himself it was one thing he'd never let go of.

Big Brother Snuf AU: Names
If you haven’t already, please read the disclaimer by clicking HERE
This starts off with the POV from Jasmine (1969 Snufkin), so there will be some mild swearing.
How does one deal with a situation like this?!
Snufkin didn’t have a ruddy clue as to what was going on. One minute he was travelling south to spend the winter away from Moominvalley, then the next he was… wherever this place is. He had no memory as to how he got here either. It looks almost like Moominvalley but there were things with it that weren’t quite right. If that wasn’t strange enough, he found not one, not two, but four other mumriks saying that they were him! And they looked nothing like him either!
In fact he was so freaked out that he actually pulled out his gun and almost shot one of them. Thankfully, the weapon was knocked out of his hands before he could do any serious damage.
Since they finally stopped interrupting each other, the group had sat down and started explaining themselves. Since they started talking, Snufkin nicknamed the others in his head. The tall one was the Bean Pole, the red head was the Hippie, the shortest one was the Kid and the one wearing gloves was the Boss since he was the only one that seemed to calm everyone down and get their heads in straight.
Now that things have calmed down, they were all sat around in a circle. While they were calm, each of them explained the situation that they were in. Sounds like they are all in the same boat as him. Each one left Moominvalley for the South and ended up in this place instead. Normally Snufkin doesn’t believe in alternative universes and crap like that, but this is proving him wrong on so many levels. How his head hasn’t blown up right now is a miracle itself.
“So, we’re all in agreement that we have the same problem then. We all left our respective Moominvalleys and somehow came upon this valley.” The Boss said, glancing at each of them carefully.
“And apparently, we’re all the same being. Technically.” The Kid added on.
“Is there anything that we’ve not covered?” The Boss asked, wanting to make sure that all the details had been gone through.
“I don’t think so.” The Hippie shrugged, looking at everybody as if he were expecting them to add something got prove him wrong. No one spoke up. Snufkin merely shrugged before striking a match and lighting his pipe. Silence dawned o the camp. Other the sound of the river and campfire, everything remained still. Honestly, as awkward as it was, the silence was blissful. It gave everyone a bit peace to think separately.
“I’ve been thinking about something else as well. What do we call ourselves?” The Hippie suddenly spoke up.
“What do you mean?” The Boss asked, eyebrow raised.
“I mean, we can’t call each other Snufkin all the time. That would just confuse things.” The Hippie explained before taking out a tobacco tin to refill his pipe. That actually made sense. Can’t exactly get a particular Snufkin’s attention without confusing everyone else.
“Okay. Easy enough for me. I had to use this name once before, so I don’t mind using it again.” Snufkin smiled, smoke trailing out of his mouth and pipe. The others looked at him curiously. “It’s Jasmine.”
“Jasmine huh?” The Hippie repeated.
“Got a problem with that?” Jasmine grumbled, crossing his arms.
“No. Just didn’t expect it.” The Hippie shrugged, stuffing fresh tobacco into his pipe. Fair enough. Jasmine did suppose that it was kind of out of nowhere. He might have to explain how that name came about one day. Shrugging off that thought, he nudged the Bean Pole with his elbow.
“What about you?” He asked.
“I’ll need to think on it.” The Bean Pole muttered.
“I think Feltin would be good for me.” The Hippie interjected happily.
“Why?” The Kid asked, tilting his head slightly, almost like a cat.
“I don’t know, I just like the sound of it.” Feltin shrugged with a grin. Honestly, Jasmine had heard of stranger names, so he didn’t have a problem with it.
“The Moomin family had come back from a trip to the Rivera, so I like the sound of River.” The Boss smiled fondly as he seemed to relive that memory. Good name. And it linked back to the Moomin family as well which was a bonus. That means that there was two left to choose a name. Thankfully, the Kid came up with one quick enough.
“I’ve heard that our name can be pronounced differently in other countries, so I’ll go with Mumriken.” He smiled awkwardly. Good way to keep the original name in a way. One more left.
“Your turn.” Jasmine said, nudging the Bean Pole again. Really can’t call him that but he might have to go by that if he doesn’t come up with a name himself.
“You’ve had to have thought of something by now.” Feltin added curiously.
“You four had better luck than me at this.” The Bean Pole shrugged, truly looking like he was extremely indecisive. That can’t be good. Might have to call him Bean Pole after all.
“How something that sounds like a samurai?” Feltin suddenly suggested out of the blue, grabbing his matches. Everyone except the Bean Pole looked at him like he had grown a second head. “It’s just that, I suppose you’re kind of like one.”
“Okay, what’s in your pipe, other than tobacco?” Jasmine asked.
“Just tobacco. Why?” Feltin shrugged.
“I’m seriously starting to question it.” Jasmine smirked, scratching the back of his head. Feltin made a confused noise as he started to smoke his pipe.
“Samur.” The Bean Pole finally said with a somewhat defeated sigh. Everyone looked at him as he had been quiet for a while now? “I’ll go with Samur.”
Jasmine felt like singing “hallelujah” to the heavens but thankfully kept it in. Finally the Bean Pole (or Samur rather) came up with something. Guess Feltin gave him a good idea after all. However there was something that Jasmine was still quite curious about.
“What is it?” Samur asked as he realised that Jasmine was staring up at him. It was a little bit unsettling to be honest.
“Just wondering how old you are, that’s all.” Jasmine shrugged.
“Why?” Samur responded with a raised eyebrow.
“Because you tower over all of us, you bean pole.” Jasmine smirked. The look that he was given was a mixture of baffled and shocked. Clearly he had never been called that before. Feltin tried hard to suppress his snickering while Mumriken covered his mouth with his hand to try to hide away any laughter. Only River, somehow, managed to keep a straight face, but Jasmine could tell that he was laughing on the inside.
“I’m 17, if that helps.” Samur answered finally. Wait! What?!
“You serious?!” Jasmine sputtered, his pipe almost falling from his mouth. Everyone else just looked almost as surprised as he was. Guess Samur had a bit of a growth spurt at some point.
“How old are you then?” Mumriken asked.
“18. That’s why I’m more shocked that he’s younger than me.” Jasmine explained, still wide eyed.
“Since we’re adding age into this, I’m 16.” Feltin added, looking oddly amused by all this. Yes! Jasmine’s the eldest! He can be in charge!
“21.” River suddenly added, raising his hand. And there goes that thought of being the eldest.
“Really? You look almost the same age as me.” Jasmine commented.
“Cursed with a young face I guess.” River shrugged, looking nonchalant about the whole thing. Maybe he’s used to people pointing out how young he seemed. Guess it’s true what they say, looks can be deceiving. Last one to speak up.
“You’ve got to be 10 or something, right?” Jasmine smirked as he looked over at Mumriken.
“Excuse me!” Mumriken exclaimed, his eyes wide at the comment. He looked quite appalled at how causal he was accused of being that young, even if it was a joke. Feltin couldn’t stop snickering again, but Mumriken tried to ignore it. “I know that I’m shorter than you, but I’m not that young. I’m 13 at least.”
“Meh. Still a kid to me.” Jasmine shrugged, just barely able to keep himself room laughing. Not to be mean or anything, but he had a feeling that he was going to enjoy winding this kid up. And the look on Mumriken’s face pretty much confirmed that for him. River suddenly cleared his throat to get everyone back on track. Yep, still acting like a boss right now.
“Ages aside, we should set up camp.” He said, pointing up at the sky as it slowly started to turn orange. How the hell did it get so late already?! Time must have been jumbled up when they arrived at this place. “We’re going to be losing daylight soon by the looks of it. We’ll try to work out a plan in the morning.”
No one protested to that. They all set up their tents. The camp was quite widely spread. Not one Snufkin wanted to be so close to each other. And each one was respectful of each other’s space. Once camp was set up and they all had supper, they decided to call it a night. As Jasmine laid down, he didn’t go to sleep right away. He just kept thinking about how awkward this had been from the start. Just knowing that theirs were alternate versions of him and Moomin and Moominvalley was just crazy. Hell, these guys might have been through the same things that he had: the wine incident, being accused of conspiring with the devil, facing off against an evil doctor, meeting Santa, going up against a man who used shadows whilst being scared of his own, dealing with bandits and a gold mine. Maybe not all of them, but it’s possible.
Whatever. Jasmine might be dreaming about this whole thing anyway. Someone probably slipped something into his food and he’ll wake up back in Moominvalley before he leaves for the South. By time morning comes, things will be back to normal.
Hopefully.

SO! I finished the game, and here are my thoughts.
As stated previously--and I'm sure a lot of people have already given praise for--the art and music are just...beautiful. It's a simple game with a simple story, and yet it drives home this warm and fuzzy feeling that makes a home in your core. It's very sweet.
Playing from Snufkin's perspective as opposed to the moomin family really does provide us with a different viewpoint and there are pros and cons to it. He's very sassy and has little patience for anyone who gets in the way of his mission, though he remains kind to people in need of help.
Now there is a con I have that is more of a personal gripe than one that hurts the game. If you know me by now, you probably know that I don't care much for snufmin. I think it's sweet, and admittedly I thought playing from Snufkin's pov and how he was focused on saving Moomin helped the ship feel a little more balanced to me. It was nice to see Snufkin express a similar amount of love and care for Moomin that Moomin would show should the roles have been reversed. Having said that, I'm still very mid about it, especially when the narrative feels like everyone gets pushed aside for them to reunite/be together. I'm not saying that the game completely shoved everyone aside though, I loved adventuring with My and Sniff, and being able to do little quests for the rest of the valley-goers. Not gonna lie, though, kinda miffed about Snorkmaiden being one of the lesser characters in the story. Including her in the game at all felt more like an obligation since she's one of the main cast, and it's sad to think that the game wouldn't change at all if she were excluded. Even from a fandom shipping standpoint, I kinda hate the exclusion of Snorkmaiden especially, but that's a whole different spiel. I would've loved more with her and Snufkin, maybe even if they teamed up to help Moomin, but it's whatever I guess..
Overall it was aesthetically beautiful, the story was simple and cute, as was the gameplay. It's an E for Everyone game that was intended for not only fans to enjoy, but parents playing with their kids too, so it's not too complex and it makes for a nice shared adventure.
I will definitely go back and work on getting the rest of the achievements, and I still need to snag some screencaps I missed. Interacting with Little My as Snufkin was always hilarious, like they're so sassy with each other and Snufkin's patience is already thin with everything going on. Little My is legit a mood though:
Snufkin: "They took Moomin! We have to save Moomin!"
Little My: "SCREW THAT NOISE I'M GETTING TREASURE!"
They had their moments and it was delightful xD

let me show you a Snufkin and Little My doodle sketchbook page
Tumblr media
you can take a closer look here (and read my silly descriptions):
there's a whole Snufkin who wasn't supposed to be a Snufkin at first but here we are
then there's a Snufkin from moomins on the rivera and below i drew him a red outfit because i saw this post (hope the link works) and thought it looks fun
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
and now we have the bottom part
Tumblr media
so after i drew that red-dress Snufkin i thought he matches with Little My so here they are and of course if they have red outfits they have to get green.
then i though it'll be fun if they got an outfit swap and Snufkin looks like Mymble there. probably so many people have done this type of thing before but who cares yippee
anyway here's that little My from the right corner (i took the inspiration for her dress from the fuzzy felt version)
Tumblr media
damn this was a long post

Just dumping some old fanart here, I did this one in I think early June? I replaced 60s Snufkin with comic Snufkin because at the time I thought his design was too similar to the 70s one oof
Still pretty happy with how 70s and 90s Snuf turned out though, I should definitely draw them more often
