thinking about queen’s dedication to audience participation. starting with in the lap of the gods revisited which didn��t get as far as they maybe hoped, taking over the entire world with we will rock you just three years later, even continuing with the radio gaga arms and freddie’s ay-oh segment at live aid etc. I remember hearing about how fans used to go to shows just to hear music but not to sing along but queen got fans to sing along, to stomp stomp clap and perform freddie’s vocal exercises. including the fans, letting them be seen and heard was a priority for them, and it’s magical, being at a concert where the whole crowd is singing and moving in unison and you feel connected to every person in the room. and queen always wanted that. they did that for us

#yes ​I’m snobby about people covering queen and I bag on we will rock you all the time #but the audience and the fans have always been important to queen #there’s a really interesting dichotomy in their discography of songs that are so complex that even they can’t perform them live #and songs that are ridiculously simple bc their impact comes from the audience participating. from including everyone #idk it’s just wild that I’ve been to two queen + al shows where a bunch of people weren’t participating during wwry or radio gaga #bc those songs were made for the very purpose of making everyone feel included #they did this for you. show some gratitude #g
