𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒' 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘 | As a veteran AR60 player of Genshin Impact, you pride yourself as someone who knows the ins and outs of Teyvat, even studiously completing Spiral Abyss every reset, and having 100% exploration to some, if not all, of the released regions so far. Everything is fun and enjoyable, especially since Sumeru just recently debuted so you still have a lot to do!

All that ends though, when a mysterious passerby pushes you off the building of your university while playing Genshin. But instead of meeting your inevitable end, you find yourself waking up in the very world you were addicted to! 

It's supposed to be a fun dream, right? Something you could laugh at when you wake up? Right?! So, why is that you were back in AR1 with nothing but a dull blade in your inventory?!

…well, at least you still have those 700+ sunsettias and mints, Timmie's fowls…and surprisingly similar game mechanics you used to merely see on the screen before. But what should you do now? Flirt with the Genshin men??? Good lords...

𝐖𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒 | This is a lot harder to write because I established a new plot lmao. And because of Kaveh and Alhaitham it was so hard to write them sjakahs. Also, this was supposed to be posted on Friday last night but I was so tired after a whole day doing god-knows-what outside so I wasn’t able to finish the chapter :( Reblogs and comments are appreciated!

Apparently, today was simply not your day.

Even before you get the chance to leave the blasted scene you found yourself in, you got stuck in the House of Daena together with two potential suspects of book robbery, one is known for being an academia lunatic and one for being a perfectionist architect. Not that you knew that they would do it, of all people, but at this point, you just did not want to give a damn.

Anyway, flashback almost a week prior after your arrival in Teyvat and before all this crazy fiasco happened, it's not everyday that your rationality won over your desire to earn and farm primogems, you know. It's also a near impossible feat to abandon the quest that could potentially help you advance your AR and even more so in pretending that Cyno is not outside, talking to Tighnari over something you wisely choose not to listen to–lest you might incur more suspicions from the both of them.

Which, in fact, is the last thing you wanted to do.

So, ignoring the questline and the angry red mark of the Paimon Menu, you closed the tab and let yourself fall on the soft bed once again with a dejected sigh. You repeatedly told yourself that this decision was the best course of action and you will have no regrets in this route. Still, you didn’t know how many hours had passed since then–all you somehow perceived is falling asleep, being lulled by the hushed whispers of the people outside and the quiet stillness of the Avidya Forest you grew accustomed to in the past months from behind the screen of your device. 

All dreams would soon end. Your hippocampus reminded you, and you agreed. No matter how much this bittersweet reality you found yourself in looks so believable, you couldn’t be far from your own reality…right? 

There has to be a way to go back.

That aside, the past four days you spent in Tighnari’s care was far from not being nerve-wrecking, if you were being honest. The fennec therianthrope seems to like hovering around you a lot, fussing like a distressed mother when you do something that he thought would strain your body and passionately lecturing you about the pros of staying in bed while you rest as if you were a poorly disciplined child.

While you admit that he was a great caregiver and it was endearing seeing a former 2D character worries about you despite literally knowing nothing about you, Tighnari’s inevitable tendencies to get lost in his lectures and fussing made your resolve to go back home hardening even more. 

Though when the sixth day had passed, you were finally allowed a bit more freedom to roam around. During that time, Tighnari had introduced you to Collei, his student and a trainee forest ranger, and it takes you a lot—and really, a lot—not to bawl your eyes out when you see the green-haired girl. You remember when you used to see Collei in the Genshin manga, she was still so small back then! And now, she is all grown up, cheerful despite her life experiences…and even kind-hearted enough to offer to take you to a visit in Sumeru City along with the other forest rangers to fetch some supplies to stock before the start of the heavy rainy season.

It was also on the sixth day when you found a crumpled paper with the word ᛚᚨᛖᚡᚨᛏᛖᛁᚾᚾ written in all bolds and italics using bright green ink in the folds of your clothes. Although you were weirded out and freaked out why, how and who slipped it there, you decided you did not give a damn about it.

Well, that was until you found another crumpled piece of paper under your pillow when you decided to get dinner with Tighnari and Collei outside. This time, ᚷᛚᛖᛁᛈᚾᛁᚱ was written on it using the same bright green ink. 

It doesn't even looked remotely similar to Teyvat's language, as what you've seen in passing when looking at the forest watcher's books on his study table. You have a vague idea what it means, but it was possible that it was one of their ancient languages, too. Since apparently, Alhaitham himself and any other scholars of his Darshan knows at least twenty languages, according to the lore.

But what the hell does it supposed to mean? It gives you the same level of anxiety when you are taking an exam in Foreign Languages. You started to question every motive, every reason why someone would send you, someone not even from this world, a crumpled paper with Earth's Runic inscriptions. Why would they send this to you? Who sent this to you? Do they even know you? A prank, maybe? What do they get from this? What do they want from you?

In any case, you don't want someone out there continuously bullying you, and you don’t have any lawyer here to sue them (unless you count on Yanfei, but that’s beside the point). So, as a last resort, you asked Tighnari if you could join the forest rangers going to Sumeru City because you planned to find your answers, and the possible prankster, in the House of Daena. Plus, you were really itching for a change in scenery!

So, yes, you won't get defeated by the Crumpled Papers of Fate before you could find a way back home!

"—oh, Collei…did I tell you how much I appreciate your existence? How could I cry in reverie for your benevolent acts? Just say the word, and I would do anything for you, you lovely human being."

Collei, probably used to your strange flare for dramatics, giggled in response and tugged your looped arms together. "I just think you need a change of scenery while recovering, and I know Master Tighnari's lectures could be too much sometimes, even if they come in good faith. Especially when you were recu…recu…um, what does he say again?"

"Recuperating?" You wrinkled your nose and Collei modded cheerfully. You can't really blame her for tripping over words, since most of the Genshin characters, especially those with super rich and scholarly background, used to speak formally and use deep words. The first time a curse slip passed your lips about two days ago, you remember seeing Tighnari's scandalous stare as if you offended his whole vocabulary.

It was also a fun way of teasing him. A small payback for all his lectures about flowers and taking care of yourself.

In any case, he begrudgingly allowed you to come see the Sumeru City along with the other forest rangers. It wasn't a long, arduous trek as you expected it to be, despite not using any Teleport Waypoints, maybe because the journey was an eye-opening one (especially when you saw chests and puzzles that you swore you already gotten before) and your group had tried your best from steering clear of any hilichurl or Eremite camps scattered around the forest.

After dropping you off at the Akademiya grounds, Collei and the other forest rangers told you that they will fetch you later after they're done restocking their supplies, you excitedly went inside, hoping to find some sort of lead or help in solving your crumpled paper predicament. 

Although Katayoun, the librarian, had adamantly asked for your credentials and permits before she let you borrow any books. Apparently, only students are allowed to have access here, but thankfully, Tighnari gave you a letter that he said would be enough for the librarian to let you inside, should you give it to her. 

“—what kind of book do you need, anyhow?” Katayoun finally relented.

“Uh, anything about Teyvat’s ancient language. The one with the alphabet similar to this one, if possible.”

The librarian peered into the two crumpled papers you presented to her, before shaking her head. “Most books about ancient language are strictly available only to students of Haravatat Darshan, and since your permit is from an alumni from Amurta, I apologise if I cannot comply with your request.” 

As she said with no room to complain, you had no choice but to pick other possible books to read that were available for you, stomping and frowning in defeat. But just as you sat on a chair in the farthest corner of the grandest library you ever saw in your life (it was even bigger than the one in-game!!), someone walked towards the seat across yours, waving his hand to you to get your attention.

"Hello! Do you mind if I sit here?" 

You felt as if you had a sudden epiphany, hearing a familiar voice that made your head snapped to him in surprise. You even almost knocked the pile of books you borrowed earlier when your eyes met a pair of sharp, mystic red irises and a tuft of fluffy-looking dirty blond hair. 

You resisted the urge to scream in both panic and excitement as you stiffly shook your head at him. IT'S KAVEH…?!

He coughed to gain your attention. "Ahem, I know it's very unbecoming for a gentleman such as myself but I couldn't help but to…overhear your conversation with our resident lovely librarian earlier. You were looking for books about ancient languages, correct?"

You blinked out of your reverie, slowly nodding at him. "Um, yes. I just need to find some references about…something. Unfortunately, I'm not a scholar from Haravatat to borrow the books I need."

His face lightened up, as if he, too, was hit by epiphany just like you. "Say, Mx…?"

"[Name]..."

"Mx. [Name], did you, perchance, recognise this?" Kaveh fished out something from his pocket and slid it across the table to you. Your eyes widened like saucers when you saw the familiar inscriptions of Runes written into three separate pieces of paper.

"The Crumpled Papers of Fate!" You hissed. "You have it, too?!"

"Yes!" He exclaimed in the same amount of enthusiasm as yours.

"But who the hell sent this?!" 

Kaveh shrugged his shoulders elegantly before resting his elbows on the table and leaning close to you. He playfully beckoned you to inch closer as if he's conspiring something with you. "That's what I want to know as well. All I realised is that the Crumpled Paper of Fate is some sort of code that gives us symbolism over something."

Your brows raised in curiosity. "Symbolism?" 

"It looks like you got two pieces. Though somehow, I got three." He tapped his gloveless finger on the table, the corner of his mouth turning downwards. "One in my pocket, the other was clipped together with my roommate's book in our living room, and the last was stuck in the door of my room. I even accidentally smack my head—"

"—which proves my point that your eyes are made of marbles if you didn't notice the door in your face."

Both you and Kaveh almost jumped from your seats when a deep voice spoke from behind you. Your jaw dropped when you caught sight of the Akademiya's Grand Scribe pulling the chair on your right side before getting himself comfortable on it, placing the books he held on his hands on the table with a soft thud.

WHAT IS ALHAITHAM DOING HERE THIS TIME?!

You were near hyperventilating near two handsome—and former 2D—dudes that was now glaring at each other. Well, more like Kaveh killing Alhaitham with his glares because the Scribe just leisurely opened his book and crossed his legs, seemingly adamant in ignoring his roommate.

And just like every playable character you met so far, and even the NPCs themselves, these two looked so human and real to someone from a game. The finer details from their designs and splash arts were more highlighted and even the contours in their faces are too detailed to be true.

Your eyes briefly glanced at the scribe's arm, and you inwardly whistled in amusement. Wow, those muscular arms could crush my skull. Lololol.

"Oi, Alhaitham! What in Teyvat are you doing here?" Kaveh asked in irritation, his former cool-ish aura vanishing in the instant.

He ignored Kaveh, his light turquoise eyes, highlighted with orange pupils, looked at you for a second and your breath hitched at its intensity. "...I overheard you two talking about the ancient scriptures and codes from the crumpled papers."

Your brows furrowed. "Huh…do you guys have something for eavesdropping or something?" 

He ignored you, too, and fished out three very familiar pieces of paper and slid it together with yours and Kaveh's. "....I suppose this is the reason why you want to borrow books of ancient languages, no? I will give you a hint. All of our papers are written in Runic inscriptions."

"Yeah, yeah, you the great scribe of the Akademiya from the Haravatat Darshan surely knows what it means." Kaveh said, sarcasm lacing his tone like a venom.

You grew more curious. "Where did you find yours?"

"Does it matter?"

You tried again. "And what does the Runic mean?" 

"Kaveh's Crumpled Paper of Fate means Ship, Blind, Light—which is rather suspicious, especially given that Kaveh found one of his papers in my book." Alhaitham said in a matter-of-fact tone, tapping his said book, that made Kaveh rolled his eyes in exasperation. 

"As a matter of fact, the only suspicious thing about that book," the architect scoffed. "...is that it's being held by a drama queen."

The last thing I remember, Kaveh's Vision is Dendro, not Pyro. Lol.

Alhaitham gave an unimpressed, humourless stare at his roommate's spiteful words and you tried suppressing your laughter, remembering Alhaitham's Oscar-like performance in the Archon Quest.

"Anyhow, back to the topic before someone rudely interrupted me. Mine was translated to Eye, Knowledge and Ravens." 

"But what does mine—"

You suddenly halted when a loud thump echoed across the library, and then there's screaming. Before you knew it, several Matra of the Akademiya flooded across the room, startling everyone who was inside.

"A book robbery took place in the library's restricted section. Everyone that stayed in the House of Daena between six in the morning until now, we are expecting your cooperation."

So, that's what happened to your supposedly peaceful morning. You were suddenly caught in the apparent book robbery in the restricted section, and you heard the General Mahamatra was going to interrogate every single person that the Matra caught.

This is not freaking good.

The prospect of meeting Cyno should be wonderful, right? BUT NO. You were on the receiving end of his job right now. And it's not even close to thrilling at all knowing the side of Cyno working that you honestly, do not wish to know.

Well, at least Kaveh and Alhaitham were with you right now. Though with the way they were bickering nonstop, you suddenly wished you could tell them to shut up.

"Theory number ten," Alhaitham muttered to himself; he was sitting so comfortably beside you as if they weren't on your way to the interrogation room. 

"You seriously reached theory ten with your nonsense?" Kaveh bited.

The scribe fished out a notebook from who-knows-where, looking for something. You tried to peek a little, but his muscular arms were in the way and it's embarrassing to inch closer when they didn't even bother introducing themselves to you. "It's possible that whoever sent this has the connection with the three of us—or at least, knows us to some extent. Perhaps wanting to measure our intelligence? For what?"

"Isn't that already obvious?" His roommate impatiently said. "[Name] got their Crumpled Paper of Fate in their own home, we got ours in your dorm, which by the way, only the two of us have access to. Whoever did this surely knew us pretty well."

"This is the reason why you didn't pass in anything other than your courses in Kshahrewar." Alhaitham said. "You always assume things."

"Excuse me, I'm not assuming. I am concluding!" He defended, apparently offended.

"Then don't jump into conclusions even if that's the only workout you do."

"Why you—"

As much as their banter was so amusing to watch, there are more pressing matters you had to know. "But that's impossible. I don't know anyone in this place aside from the Forest Rangers in the Avidya Forest, you know. It's nearly impossible that Tighnari and Collei would do this just to prank us. Though, I always had someone with me, so it's not possible that someone I don't know snuck into my room either…"

"You seem like you always have a witness with you?" Kaveh turned to you.

Alhaitham paused for a second. He blinked slowly, before a subtle smirk slowly pulled from the corner of his lips. "That's it."

"Huh?"

He stood up from his seat. "A witness." He vaguely replied before he went through the door faster than you could blink.

You and Kaveh stared at the door.

Then you two realised what Alhaitham just did.

"Oi, he just ran off without us!" Kaveh exclaimed in anger before tugging your hand to follow his roommate outside. "[Name], let's go before the Matra catches us!"

What in the world did you got yourself into?

Route 1.2.1: Stop Kaveh from escaping. You had a feeling that escaping isn't a good thing, especially since Cyno would probably hunt you down later. What's there to fear when you're innocent, no?

Fun fact about me; I lucid dream, but I'm also a big daydreamer and most of my ideas come from either lucid dreaming or daydreaming! Being so in sync with your creator that you become one with it, sounds like something that'd happen to me.

I chose The One because of:

I was hesitating between this one and Normalcy, but the freedom to choose whatever path I pursue of abandon is nice. Honestly, I probably won’t go crazy as this one suggests one would. I’d be a lone wolf amongst the other gods. Instead of hunger for more power, I’d create worlds that I’d love till the end of time, and perhaps I’d even walk amongst my creations at one point.

We always need a Mentor in the heroes journey. Someone to guide me through my powers and help me become more powerful. My mentor would learn me things I didn’t know and help me control my powers. 

The Herald. Someone strong by my side is always helpful. I feel like we’d start out as a boss-employer relationship but then we’d become trusted buddies. I know that the Herald would always have my back, so I can relax around them. 

The Consort, cause being as powerful as this character I created must be lonely. Having a consort by my side would keep me from going insane. Everyone needs a hug now and then.

Guys, do I really need to explain how it’s useful to have someone like Satheth the Seer? Man would literally tell me if I’d win a war or not. He gives me doctor strange vibes in the way that he can see all possible outcomes and guide me through the best one. 

The Seraph because they’re like my second herald but less mortal XD 

I feel like it's a mentor arc but I'm the mentor for the Wayward Crusader instead.

Princess Lily of the Manalim sounds like the cutest side story but it also gives me elf vibes, and I can’t resist elf cities and such. 

I mainly chose Serenity the Soul Huntress because she has great connections and could "track even the tiniest beetle across six dimensions, let alone a man".

G E N E R A L  —

NAME.         his full birth name is august ahn-evergreene, his last names being a combination of his maternal and paternal last names because his mother wasn’t going to allow her children to not have her last name in some fashion. however, in his twenties he drops evergreene and only uses ahn as his last name due to a rift with his mother / wanting an identity separate from her ( he’s not fond of his father either but he has a habit of leaving town so it’s easier for august to distance himself from that part of his family’s ‘legacy’ ).

AGE.         he appears in his late 20s ( 27-30 ) but is around 60 years old due to the extended lifespan of a mage.

HEIGHT.          he stands at 6′1 ( 185.42 ). no, he’s not a sloucher and is the type to internally judge people who do because stand up straight wtf?

WEIGHT.          170 pounds ( 77.1kg ). he’s lean and not overly muscular; doesn’t do much heavy physical activity anymore due to his current ‘condition’.

ETHNICITY.         korean-filipino american mage. he comes from a bloodline of magic-users. if commenting on his natural magical prowess, expect a dry ‘of course, i was breed to be.’ in response.

OCCUPATION.           he is what the people of crescent creek call ‘the overseer’, the highest sitting member of the council of novema ( or just ‘the council’ for short ). they are the ones who ‘govern’ the town and its people, establishing laws and stepping in to resolve high-level matters between residents if it should come to it. with the council needing to hear matters from the magi, vampires, fae, werewolves, and other beings, august has a constant headache.

GENDER.          cis-male.

SEXUAL & ROMANTIC ORIENTATION.         he would state that he’s heterosexual but admittedly he’s never fully explored his sexuality enough for that to be a definite statement. he hasn’t seriously dated in a very long time™ and it isn’t interested in changing that.

FAVOURITE  FOOD.           he’s very particular about getting his three meals a day in if he can but he probably has the most fondest for food that was often served at dinner time with his family or when all his cousins spent time at his lola’s house when they visited her. dishes such as bopis, kimchi, pancit canton, tocino and rice, korean styled steak, etc. are personal favorites.

FAVOURITE  DRINK.           his day isn’t complete without having a nice, chilled glass of vintage red wine during dinner ( and maybe just drinking straight from the bottle by the end of the night ). he does enjoy drinking rosé during a nice breakfast or lunch depending on the bottle.

FAVOURITE  HOBBY.          brooding. joking aside, he does enjoy sparring matches, ‘magical’ based sparring matches. he does practice taekkyeon ( korean martial arts ) and enjoys mixing spells in by shocking opponents, blocking their spells with his own wards, etc.

FAVOURITE  SCENT.             the smell of freshly cut grass as well as the scent of pomegranates, vanilla, cinnamon, and musk. the former is bittersweet and nostalgic, reminding of his years as a teen: when he was young, oblivious, and only had to be concerned about being late to football / soccer practice. the latter reminds him of someone he would rather forget.

FAVOURITE  PERSON.        i. his twin brother, ansel ahn. his death still hurts and he’ll always partially blame himself for it - despite the fact that there would’ve been nothing he could’ve done to change it. ( this is the part where that wand.avision quote is inserted in ). the loss of his brother dramatically changes the course of his life. ii. his lola, nora evergreene. she grounds him a lot. one of the few times he’s at peace is when he visits her for brunch every third saturday of the month. iii. his ex, audrey cramer. he would never admit it out loud though - at least not anymore.

he’s well versed in magical creatures : one of the 'gifts’ of being the overseer is the ability to traverse pass the veil - a barrier / entry way that exist between ‘earth’ and the many dimensions that exist beyond it. this ability, however, is one that has fallen out of use over the past few decades. ever the abnormally, august makes use of this ability for his own personal agenda. outside of the different races that already live within crescent creek ( witches, vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc. ), there are those that prefer to live freely in their own worlds rather than live in secrecy on earth. so yes, he has met unicorns and he thinks most of them are actually assholes.

on the nature of the veil : the origin of the veil itself is a mystery. all that is known that about its existence is that many millennium ago, those from different dimensions ( or ‘worlds’ ) were able to freely pass through it without the need of assistance or a spell. as time progressed and humanity began to rise, passage through the veil became increasingly more restricted, leading to entry ways within the veil being sealed and only accessible through the leader in each world ( ex. the overseer in crescent creek ). although the town of crescent creek has always traded with other towns, cities, etc. pass the veil, many of those trades have slowed to a stop entirely as those dimensions have become inaccessible. to somewhat ease panic and concern, the council has framed the issue being due to other dimensions permanently closing themselves off from earth ( a situation that has previously happened some worlds ). in truth, the veil itself has become 'infected’ by a foreign spell that’s led to the blocking of entry ways that lead into other worlds. due to not knowing the source of the spell and its affect on the veil, the knowledge of its presence is unknown to most people in crescent creek. // note: this is more of an overall ‘lore’ fact that explains the backdrop of what’s going on in this ‘world’ to understand other facts about him. in the grand scheme of things, this wouldn’t come up when interacting with him.

he doesn’t believe in astrologists, psychics, fortune tellers, etc. : which may seem contradictory considering he’s a literal magical being but in his experience, it’s typically humans pushing pseudoscience or mages using their magic to con clueless humans. people in that line of ‘work’ are hacks to him - especially since he’s seen it first hand with his own father’s profession.

over the past twenty years, he’s been continuing his brother’s research : ansel, his older, twin brother, had been studying the distortions within the veil in secret before his death a decade prior. although the status of the veil was supposed to be concealed to those outside of the council’s reach, ansel confided in his brother before his death. in august’s eyes, whatever spell that’s taken over the veil is an active threat and with the backing of onyx crane, a vampire on the council, and his cousin, faye evergreene, he began an almost obsessive-like determination to complete his brother’s work and find answers - even if it’s to his own detriment. // *note: with a big soap opera trope being people returning from the dead, it shouldn’t be shocking to discover that ansel, is in fact, not actually dead. he used a storm that hit the town as a means to fake his own death ( disasters that kill off characters is usually a soap opera storyline that happens during ‘sweeps’ period ) and left town for his own agenda.

the youngest overseer to sit in the council : his status as the overseer is one steeped in controversy due to...a variety of reasons: an overseer typically is replaced by another council member by vote or an apprentice to the overseer should they have one after an overseer’s death, resignation, or if they’ve been forcefully discharged from the position. none of these things applied to august’s own mother, tala ahn-evergreene, when he usurped her - blackmailing the council by threatening to expose the truth about the current threat of the veil. // *note: in every ( american ) soap opera, it is a staple to have a ‘thing’, whether it be a business, a central institution in town ( ex. a hospital ), or a position ( CEO of a company, chief of staff at a hospital, etc. ) that many of the characters are tied to or even fighting for control over. ELQ, the quartermaine’s family business on general hospital, often have storylines where family members are fighting over shares of the company, who should run it, or the family teaming up to oust an outsider that’s taken over the company ( funnily enough, there is a story like the latter happening on the show right now ). the point here is that being the overseer or even sitting on the council of novema is that ‘thing’ that people fight over to be on for various reason. 

he takes his personal upkeep very seriously : there’s a lot of things one could say about crescent creek’s current overseer but no one can ever say they’ve seen august ahn not look put together when he’s out and about ( this is him going out publicly basically ). as someone who values consistency and control in his life but pretty much never has it, august actually highly treasures the time spent doing his morning / nightly skincare routines, getting his acupuncture treatments, and so on. he supports the self care movement essentially.

he ( as well as his siblings ) once witnessed one of his father’s affairs : it was an awful experience. -10/10. doesn’t recommend. this incident shapes his attitude towards relationships in general and how he operates within them. august has a very black and white attitude about relationships: you are either with him 100% or you’re not with him at all. it’s unhealthy and he has to unpack that. // *fun fact: this is actually a real event that happened with this family back in the sims 2 over ten years ago - they just all had different names, were a different race, and so on at that point.. they’ve changed a lot:tm:. 

may be an active suspect for murder : it happens. when marlena cramer, a former council member, suddenly passes on, the town is overtaken by a wave of a grief...that soon becomes shock and suspicion when her death is rules to be from unnatural causes. between being one of the last people to see her alive and reports of him wanting her off the council, august becomes one of the prime suspects for her murder case. // *note: whodunit’s are probably up there with ‘who’s the daddy’ storylines in terms of being the most common soap opera staple ( ex. who shot j.r. on dallas ).

voted most likely to be successful in his HS yearbook : august was the picture perfect prom king, the jock that was friends with everyone on campus, and the one everyone expected ride off into the sunset with his hs sweetheart. on paper, august was well rounded - some would say outright perfect. today, those who knew him in high school would shake their heads and ask themselves what happened to the boy who always smiled at them when he passed you by in the hallway or whose laughter could easily be heard the loudest in a classroom. august, as he is now, is a stranger to those that once knew him.

it’s happening gradually but he is, in fact, dying : many of the worlds that had become unaccessible were not only blocked off but were actively decaying - many of its residents fleeing to other worlds before they were forever trapped in a dying one while others locked their entry ways to stop the spell from spreading to their own homes. the overseers in crescent creek were restricted from traversing the veil themselves due to the unknown risk of the spell, a rule that august actively ignores. every time he travels through the veil, the more the spell slowly eats away at him - a fact that he is well aware of and he has no desire to stop. he will keep traveling worlds ( and helping those he can ) until he finds the source of the spell and kills its caster himself.

COMMON  WORDS / PHRASES  THAT  ANNOY  THEM.         during a misunderstanding or argument, the worst thing to tell him is that he ‘doesn’t understand’. even if the person is somewhat correct, august is a person that prides himself on being an objective observer of a situation, rational in his thinking, and not someone who lets his emotions dictate his choices. saying something like that to him would just further annoy him.

PERSONALITY  TYPES  THEY  PREFER.        those who are smart, loyal, and efficient. those who are willing to dirty their hands on occasion, and believe that the ends do justify the means.

PERSONALITY  TYPES  THEY  AVOID.       selfish and incompetent people, those who proceed to waste his time, useless people in positions of powers, jerky unicorns.

WHAT  DO  YOU  FIND  DIFFERENT / DISTINCT  ABOUT  YOUR  PORTRAYAL?

         the whole concept of this ‘world’ is based around soap opera cliches and tropes so the character is intentionally ‘tropey’ and meant to pull from different fictional men from the genre - as well as outside of it. i would say him being the leading man is unique within itself because people of color in soaps ( at least within american soaps which this is all inspired by ) are generally never the leads or involved in what i actually watch soaps for: the drama, the love stories, the scheming, the cheating, etc. they’re usually the straight men to the white characters; living well off but boring lives and are rarely given front burner stories. all black people in a soap opera are usually always going to somehow know each other, only date each other, etc. you can switch black people out with latinos, asians, etc. and it would still be true. the characters of color are easily written off as a result of this.

        in general, soap operas are very white - and still are today. they have a history of casting white people as mexican characters, ex. lindsay hartley as theresa on passions. asian american soap characters are severly lacking - i could probably count the amount of i’ve seen on screen. a black actress formerly on general hospital mentioned how people jokingly called the show ‘generally white hospital’ behind the scenes. chad.wick bos.eman left all my children because of how much of a stereotype his character was - and he was right ( ironically, michael b. jord.an was his recast ). some shows are getting better, bold and beautiful currently has a story involving two characters cheating ( one of which is black ) and it’s hot af but it’s still not enough for the times we’re in. this isn’t a problem exclusive to soaps either - most media has a problem with this. people of color aren’t getting lead roles and especially not romantic lead roles - even if they do, the shows always make it a interracial romance with a white person ( ex. bridg/erton ) as if people of color of different races are incapable of dating each other.

         finally, i’ve noticed that you rarely see asian american men portrayed as romantic leads or desirable ( at least in a non-fetishized way ) in western media. that’s pretty lame:tm: so that was also a factor when i revamped audrey’s love interest ( parts of ‘old’ him still exist, ex. him being a jock / king of the school as a teen, a complicated relationship with his brother, etc ). anyway, stan august uwu.

                            the unofficial biography -

Grayson king was the only child to a french princess and a stern navy colonel - something that gave him the inability to really ever get in touch with his feelings or ever make a solid decision. sure, he had the life of a prince - no pun intended - but when everyone wants to either be you or be with you, what really brings you happiness? 

for grayson, it was usually his two best friends - the queen bee and the golden girl. the three of them were inseparable from an early age, and when puberty hit, it became incredibly obvious that hormones and emotions were suddenly at the forefront of all three of their minds. how was he supposed to choose between them, though, when they both clearly had the hots for him? like so much else, the choice was basically made for him - the queen bee made her move, and grayson just never fought it. the two were happy together - mostly - and despite a brief dalliance with the golden girl, he was mostly faithful. but when their brief tryst came out upon the golden girls return, everything fell apart.  suddenly he was facing choices unlike he’d ever have to before : did his fate lie with one of the two girls he’d loved his whole life, or maybe in the form of someone he’d never seen before, like the dreamer? and where was he supposed to go to college - brown, where his father had attended, yale, like his girlfriend wanted, or somewhere else altogether? did he even want to go to college?  after graduation, with everyone on the high of freedom, he left. grabbed the boat named for his paternal grandmother and disappeared into the ocean to try and find a level head. for almost six months, he stopped only along small coastal towns, trying to figure out what the future meant for him. just him, a joint, and the waves of the atlantic.  he had to return eventually, though, and a year later than all the rest of his friends, he started at harvard in their architecture program - building boats up at his family’s compound in maine had really been the only time he was ever at peace - and now he’s found himself a low level job in an architecture firm, working on designing ships of all sizes. he came back to new york, alone and clear headed, and laid low while others flitted in and out of the city - but now that everyone’s coming back, his quiet life feels like it’s about to be blown apart once again.

adelaide laurent - while it was adelaide who made the first move, grayson and her spent the better part of their high school years in a series of on again / off again relationships. there’s not a lot grayson understands about life - he spent a lot of that time getting high in the park with his other friends, after all - but once upon a time, he knew everything that made adelaide tick, down to the distinct nail shades that reflected her moods.  they never actually officially ended things, but when adelaide went off to yale and grayson went off to sail the world, they fell apart. even upon his return - and subsequent years at harvard - they never came back together - at least until a few months ago. adelaide’s been hard at work making a name for herself, and while grayson’s been trying to work his way up the ladder of his architecture firm, he can’t help but feeling a little lost. adelaide was always good at giving him direction - and reaching out to her for drinks now and again doesn’t need to mean anything more than old friends reconnecting, right?  theodore cunningham - opposites of the same side of the coin, theodore was everything grayson wasn’t. outspoken, arrogant, and rude to anyone he deemed unworthy, theodore was everyone’s least favorite member of their little crew. except for grayson, who generally found him hilarious.  maybe it was the weed, or maybe it was the fact that theodore just never wanted anything from him, but the two were strange bedfellows. when he was wallowing over his many girl problems, theodore was pointing him in the direction of someone new - or giving him perspective. they were young, hot, and rich - who needed to settle down with any one specific girl when the world was their oyster, and they had so much left to live?  other quick connections : ophelia carmichael ( ex-girlfriend / best friend ), alfie fitzwilliam ( friend ), waverly fox ( ex-girlfriend ), connor reid ( enemies). more listed here.

Oxford Brookes University spotlights 11 student architectural projects

A workspace on the limestone coast of Majorca and the headquarters for the Wildlife Trust within a disused industrial site feature in Dezeen's latest school show from students at Oxford Brookes University.

Also included is a council-funded facility for repurposing local waste and a co-living space informed by the design of high streets.

"This proposal looks at developing a Council-funded facility for repurposing local waste in public use workshops. Industrialisation has left us big cities, factories, canals and railroads. Post-war global capitalism has added high rises, airports, highways and glass fibre cables.

"The Westway in Notting Hill is an excellent example location to explore what infrastructure we will leave behind. Europe's biggest purpose-built flyover is currently under review. Our aim is to design the supporting infrastructure needed to make the Westway area more healthy, accessible, and resilient for the immediate and long term future."

Lichen Sinus Clinic by Patrick Kotowski

"This project is an accumulation of lichen, smell, water, minimalist design and health. One of the most underappreciated luxuries we have is the ability to smell. Some people don't, either through Covid-19 or another condition.

"The Lichen Sinus Clinic is the symbolic reflection of the multi-organism, lichen. It has the ability to purify the local condition for optimal biological growth and is a sign of ideal conditions.

"Heating local, freshwater to create steam indoors allows the patient's blocked sinus to open once again, or for the first time, through the experience of a 'clean line', symbolic architecture."

"Unit H is focused on the city as a never-ending conversation, a place of conflict and resolution, where people's ideas are tested and nurtured, adopted and displaced. Not a place to be rationalised, but a tangled dialogue that architects can learn to negotiate.

"This year, we investigated the role architecture and design can play as the mediator between local eccentricities, idiosyncrasies and perceptions, in conflict with national/global trends. Driven by the emergence of the experience economy, we explored how an architectural ecology of 'amusement' could begin to take priority in our cities."

"Rash's mechanical brewery project provides an intelligent and highly sensitive response to the local historical, physical and social context of Norwich, located by the River Wensum and within an ex-industrial area of the city. His proposal draws upon the brewing history of the local area, intricately connecting the processes of making lambic beer and fishing.

"In addition to providing an educational environment in which these processes are made visible to the public, and local communities, his intensely detailed and exceptionally well-researched proposal engages with the wider ecology of Norfolk, where local farmers share their growing, fertilisation and harvesting procedures in exchange for spent grain, a byproduct from the brewing process, which can be used for animal feed."

"One of the most significant innovations in eighteenth-century leisure was the pleasure garden: a dedicated outdoor space for entertainment. London's pleasure gardens defined the city’s night-life in the 18th and 19th centuries.

"They were sites for music, dancing, eating and drinking, regular fireworks, operas, masquerades and illuminations. Approaching Vauxhall, Unit K was seeking to unearth the layers of the lost city as well as the living one, and re-establish a space for public celebration, starting by collectively designing structures for an open-air performance, and later developing it into a new kind of cultural or performance venue or institution."

A Co-Living Sanctuary-Designing for Spiritual Wellbeing by Holly Moroney

"This project is a conversion of two semi-detached houses in Jericho, Oxford into Co-Living shared accommodation.

"The brief aims to appropriate a relatively new housing typology (Co-Living) in the context of a deliberate rehabilitation of existing housing stocks. The transformation should substantially increase the density of occupation while providing a suitable alternative approach to living arrangements with its blend of private and collective spaces structured around shared activities.

"Domesticity, in this case, is explored as a tool to reach a higher level of spiritual wellbeing. The technical considerations and design strategies aim to provoke a higher level of wholeness and enriched lifestyles between the users. The concept of 'mindful moments' interprets into the design as spaces to contemplate, rest, and re-connect to the present; alone or with others."

Music Review: Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel

Charli XCX Number 1 Angel [Asylum; 2017] Rating: 4/5 ARE YOU WASTING MY TIME? ARE YOU JUST BEING KIND? The crunch of car on car is scraping metals and peeled-off paints, but it may as well be the sound of our fleshy bodies in collision. “I didn’t see you there!” the drivers say, “Your body, my body/ We were close, but still so far away” or worse: “I didn’t mean to hurt you.” We’re always rubbing up against each other, taking turns too tight and colliding our selves together, then apart, always surprised that there’s another body, a different life, a separate existence in our path, that prayer like Madonna, the coo husk “Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide/ That’s how I feel: Don’t fog my mind.” We’re masses of flesh and bone and neuron and we supposed we would strike out on the terms of our own individualities: we terraformed something called a self out of the oppressing forces of time and physics and scrutinized our own country of “I” against outer-infrastructures, riding out the individual shiftings and erosions in the days that became what we called lives. Maintaining our countries of self is the only and hardest thing we’ll all do, maintaining feels improbable in optimals, impossible in winters. Engaging in our humanity is hard. And then there’s everybody else’s car on the highway, everybody else’s everybody, bumping colliding, crossing our skin and brain’s borders, violating our selves with waves of thems. Everybody lives alone together; no humanity in a vacuum. Engaging in our humanity is hard. Engaging in someone else’s humanity is life stuff, raw divine and wrenching pain, the flower and the petals pulled off. Engaging hurts. “Are you wasting my time? ” I ask you. “Are you just being kind?” I ask myself. Like Madonna’s “Love Song” for impassioned relating and the two humans arguing over whose car hit whose, Charli XCX’s Number 1 Angel is a text for mitigating engagements. Charli’s language — whether it’s a stutter boom of drum and vocal fry, the automobile verse-chasing ecstasy on “Dreamer,” or the heart-pumping pink gasoline into da-doo trance on “Pull Up” — is the language of pop music always becoming pop music. Number 1 Angel is a maybe mixtape, sorta free, but released by a voice that’s constantly solving life’s real problems with the imagined solutions of pop music. “I’m a dreamer,” Charli reminds us. Pop is dream stuff for bodies. --- IT’S NATURAL, IT’S CHEMICAL, IT’S LOGICAL, HABITUAL: CAN WE DO IT? The promise of pop is that all the traumas and collisions in life and parking lots can be ameliorated in the three-and-a-half-minute hit; like humanity, there’s no pop without engaging in other voices and ears. “You know I never really thought about/ How it feels to say these words aloud,”” Charli confesses on the blip-glitter-blip of “Ily2,” a song for swaying shaking before it bottoms out in a screaming lipstick guitar squeal, a soliloquy like screaming at the club floor. Number 1 Angel is music for ears, proof for engaging, and its sonics follows Charli’s Vroom Vroom; this is pop as excision, removal of nicety, addition of excess. But pop music has always been a language of both engaging with (M’s manifesto: “I wanna dedicate it, infiltrate it/ Everybody made it, activate it”) and engaging out (M’s make-it-up: “Shoobie doobie doo-wop/ Bop bop shoo-wop””). And Number 1 Angel — the pop-rotting root-canalled “Lip Gloss,” the bare-stare numbing “Drugs” — is music for moving that makes you a little afraid that you wanna move this much. It kisses us, and it rots our teeth. “There’s things that you guess and things that you know,” and pop knows that you’re both those things. Pop music and Number 1 Angel needs our ears, chooses to engage our faculties in pleasure; without us, pop is mute and without pleasure, pop is oblivion. But its best architects (George Michael: “Somewhere along the way, pop lost all its respect. And I think I kind of stubbornly stick up for all of that.”) know that the whole of the thing is chasing wholeness in itself. Pop music has to be the boom, and the clap, the bigness of the hit (dual languages of physical pummeling and quantifiable mass) followed by the imploding clap. George Michael’s faith reversed the revered object: the lust-object, formerly just your ears and attentions, is pop itself. The pronouns, the muse Charli and George seduce and can’t resist, are the sugar apocalypses of pop music. “It’s natural, it’s chemical: can we do it? ” and Charli and all her angels know: “I went to go get it, I get it, I got it, I went to go get it, I get it, I got it.” Pop as apocalypse orgasm (all-consuming never-ending nothing-elsing until the song is over) is its natural state. “Uh-huh, so good, but I know you’re bad for me/ You got control, and you love the game,” Charli bangs out on “Blame it On You,” leveling: “with you I’m an addict” over the throb of A. G. Cook, of blood hitting all the extremities. The you is pop music; the muse we’re all trying to get with is the art itself. Number 1 Angel cracks some of Vroom Vroom’s cerebral ice to follow that heat source before it recedes a little, un-resolves. Pop needs you and your sex, and pop needs itself always to be never ending. “Emotional” is that perfect pop moment, the beginning of ending “All over, deep under my skin,” the body being wanted and the pulling, engaging, “You got me so emotional,” the bottom-out bass dropped admission: “We had something that never happened.” And then the song is over, three minutes and fifty-four seconds. Number 1 Angel makes me feel like I don’t ever want to say goodbye, but I can’t not. --- YOU MAKE ME FEEL GOOD, COME ON TO ME COME ON TO ME NOW It’s tempting, too easy, to slide Number 1 Angel in as an inevitable Charli release, impossible accessible, unable to hear too much of — the pop for us, the pop wanting itself. That possible narrative postulates pop as result-based, almost automatic, and would have our ears buy Number 1 Angel as a next step after Vroom Vroom, after everything that already happened. Pop is always validation, and it doesn’t need lines of occasion or inevitables. The genes and vulgarities are there, the knuckle curves and diving slider sounds of A. G. Cook and SOPHIE and Danny L Harle distorting the warm crackle of knowable features by Abra and Starrah and Raye. But the pop model of mythologies has always disserviced its architects (Madonna: “I’ll stop doing everything that I do when I don’t want to do it anymore. I’ll stop when I run out of ideas. I’ll stop when you fucking kill me.”) Mythology proposes Number 1 Angel as the weird in-between moment, an improper release that weirds out as a reaction to “Fancy” and “I Love It” being bank, to Sucker’s comparable stalling after a darling Nuclear Season. But pop music, like the way human beings talk to/crash into human beings, like Charli XCX, doesn’t occur in a straight line because “the beat goes on and on and on and on and— ” It’s the dipping and sharp turns and the collisions that inform an art, give our bodies reason to move and live. Number 1 Angel: the un-mixtape before the who knows what is out of time, already after “After the Afterparty” and done before “1 Night.” It’s non-linear Technicolor, an ode to you and me and pop music and, ultimately, to Charli XCX: “It’s Charli, baby/ It’s Charli.” We’re all always colliding, peeling our petals together: pop music always sounds like love, because how else do we ever really get together? It’s messy and it’s unsavory, sounding this good, this “Babygirl” fever: “Think about us, we could burn up the second we fuck.” It’s the fuck and funk of the individuated humans trying to relate and sound right together alone. “I’m so sick of that same old love/ That shit it tears me up” someone sang. “I don’t care/ I love it,” said someone else. It’s the universal words we all hear together, but the author is Charli, and the love, the it, is giving, reciprocating, growing. There’s no humanity without the thing that we sometimes call engaging, sometimes call colliding; any reason for meaning, for being these bodies with each other, is art. Charli’s art is giving pop away to get back to the Number 1 Angel, which is her, which is me, which is you. It’s pop becoming us for us, and it always has been. “Je suis prete. The Process of Self-discovery, Hindrances and Benefits

Dear friends, the art of gaining insight into one’s weaknesses, strengths, uniqueness, character, life-purpose is what I would like to discuss today.  We are raised to study different subjects in school but no one mentions about the study of SELF.  Then we end up living someone else’s dream, doing courses we are really not interested in, trying to belong to different groups, copying other people and in short living an artificial life!  Each one of us must invest time and resources in discovering ourselves.  This will be the beginning of living and the end of just existing.  

This process of self-discovery can be started by:

1.            Identifying your unique beliefs, values, and strengths

Your strengths are seen in the activities which you are naturally drawn towards, excel in and feel good about.  Your values reveal themselves when you feel strongly about certain things e.g. Society may think that to be beautiful means you must wear revealing or tight clothes, etc. but my own definition of beauty is developing my inner person, my personality.  Do you just agree with your parents’ religious affiliations just because they are your parents or you have come to understand your faith based on personal convictions?

2.            Discover yourself by identifying the people that truly matter to you

Surround yourself with people who love you, motivate and inspire you.  Someone said, “You are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with.”  For the people that truly matter to you, what influence do they have over your life? Consider family, friends, siblings, parents, colleagues, neighbours, mentors, etc. As you continue to linger around them, where do you see yourself in the next two years; will they have influenced you or you have influenced them? And if they are influencing you, then in what direction – positive or negative. Stick with those that bring out the best in you at all costs. Those are the one with your interest at heart.

3.            Identify your source of stress

Adapting a simple lifestyle helps. Things like attending to everybody’s needs but you, financial struggles, health issues – eating and resting well, seek help in these.  Having so many commitments like meetings, activities leaving you too tired and occupied the whole week without ‘me-time’.  These can be as a result of poor time management skills or poor financial management and there are short courses that one can invest in to gain the necessary skills, other means can be asking for help from people who are successful in an area you are failing. Also, for self-education, there are free videos one can watch from YouTube.

4.            Discover your individuality and uniqueness.  

Mahatma Gandhi said, “He who loses his individuality loses all.” What makes you stand out, different from others? Knowing that is knowing YOU.  It is that uniqueness that one needs to build on and showcase to the world.

5.            Discover your vulnerability and insecurities –

“All men should strive to learn before they die what they are running from, and to, and why” – James Thurber. This is a sobering question because we need to ask ourselves why we are running from or to certain things.  This will open our eyes to what is really going on within us.  Once the problem is known, the solution can be found.  Another question to ask is, “What triggers your anger, hatred, jealousy, ego and what are the causes of that lack of self-confidence?  Drop any negative thoughts and habits that are affecting your health, relationships, finances, studies, career, etc.

6.            Start to rely on yourself

This boosts confidence, self-worth, self-belief, and trust in yourself.  You will not always get this right, so this is the time to learn to be patient with yourself and build confidence in your abilities and judgments. Taking on the responsibility for your household matters, budgeting, planning the future, etc. is a good way to practice. Relying on yourself will also help you to learn to let go of the need to please everyone.

7.            Organise your life and therefore your world

Have a daily plan, weekly schedule, know when to switch off the phone to concentrate on a task, keep a calendar where all your tasks and appointments are logged, set alarms when necessary, have ‘me-time’, social time, quiet time, etc.  Organised people are more productive and tend to live balanced lives – they create time for themselves, self-development, family, and social events.

8.            Wake up to be a thinking person

It does not take much to be a thinking person; think before you act, recall past events in your life that have shaped or affected you, seek clarification and identification of issues. This is much needed because major events in your past can be formation blocks for your future goals.  Also, negative experiences shape us, so do not ignore these, focus on what you learned from them

9.            Have regular retreats

Have some time and space away from expectations, conversations, noise, media, pressure, family, etc. to connect with your core during that time, listen to inspirational teachings, music, reading books, pray, sleep/rest (that is okay too!).  Invest time to re-awaken your creativity and passions, so form a system to work on your passion each day.

10.         Seek mentorship

Believe me, friends, we all need somebody more experienced, knowledgeable than we are. They make us escape mistakes and life becomes much easier.  It is a fact that we cannot go far on our own, we need to ride on the shoulders of others, avoid some mistakes, etc.

11.         Ask yourself questions:

These are just three of the main questions that anyone desiring to discover themselves can ask:

•         If I had all the resources, what would I still be doing with my life and why?

•         What do I want to be remembered for?

•         Looking back at my life, what is that thing that I can never regret?

Having looked at some of the steps we can take to self-discovery, let us now see what can stand in the way of achieving that:

a)              Environment - in this context, I am referring to the influence of family, friends, what we read, listen to or watch, societal and cultural beliefs.  Another form of ‘environment’ can be depicted from the Bible – Matthew Chapter 13 which talks about The Parable of the Sower, describing the different types of environment that we (the seeds) can find ourselves in. These types of ‘environments’ can either promote or kill our self-development, for example:

•       Pathway – represents the lack of understanding exposes us to all forms of attacks – mental, physical, and emotional, etc. To get a form of ‘covering’, we need mentors in our lives or learn from others by listening to sound teachings, widening our worldview and mindset.

•       Rocky way – represents the lack of depth – do not be a surface person, expose yourself to knowledge,

•       Thorns – represent the worries of life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and other distractions.  Overcome this environment by rebuilding your life, become an architect of your life, develop new values and systems to ensure that you live by that e.g. consciously deciding to think about a specific thing during the day and nothing outside of this

•       Good soil – represents one having a right understanding of life and purpose of life, has deeper knowledge and application of life principles.

b)            Slave to one’s job - when we allow jobs to tie us down, to the extent of not having the time to discover ourselves, then we stand a big chance of never being fulfilled in life. The job just remains as a means of earning a living and not something we are passionate about.

c)            Ignorance – this is especially magnified in the developing world where illiteracy levels are very high. Ignorance can rob one of every opportunity.  For example, the free resources on the internet cannot be accessed nor understood.  We need to seek education at all costs!

d)            Lack of self-discipline – this affects self-education and time-management, without which one cannot achieve anything, talk less of self-discovery.

e)            Not being in the ‘Here and Now’ as termed by a great mentor Dr. Sunday Adelaja. This means not being conscious of what is happening around you, but being a day-dreamer. When we are fully awake and are aware of what is happening around us makes us effective people – this is part of self-development.  This means that when you are in a seminar, listening to a talk, you are 100% engaged and maximising the moment, and hereby being effective of your time.

f)             Religiosity and miracle-mindedness – this robs us of our personal responsibility in getting the things we need in life.  This ‘prison’ makes one think that they have to wait on God to do everything for them, yet the power is actually in their hands. When one says, “my life is in God’s hands”, it means that they cannot even read hard at school to pass their exams, they cannot go to hospital for treatment, they cannot acquire new skills, etc., all because they things should miraculously come in place or drop down from heaven – what an illusion! God has given us all the resources we need for life and it is up to us to realise and utilise them in order to make our lives count.

g)            Lack of boundaries – set boundaries to safeguard your time, you will not have time for self-discovery exercises if you are working 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, attending different kinds of meetings throughout the week, watching TV for hours, partying every weekend, etc. Set boundaries can be switching off your phone when busy, having some free days in a week when you are off-work, having a set time frame for sleeping, being selective in what meeting you attend – you are not needed in all of these.  Choose the meetings where you are intentional e.g. the need to talk to someone about something important, impacting lives, and so on.

h)            Under a manipulative and abusive relationship – sometimes we can subject ourselves to a toxic environment e.g. with a spouse, family members or any leader, where we are not growing intellectually, mentally, socially, financially, spiritually and other areas of our life to help us discover ourselves.  We need to check-out! We need to develop your emotional muscles and a thick skin, when we have set our mind on a thing, other ‘voices’ are irrelevant!

i)             Being in your comfort zone – when one settles in their comfort zone, there is no drive to seek for more knowledge, one becomes content with where they are at, and this is the most dangerous state. Find a new challenge, cultivate self-motivation, and establish a support system where you have an accountability partner, in that which you want to accomplish in life.

j)             Lack of critical thinking, reasoning and a culture of questioning – we need to learn to ask questions. A developing mind is one that is curious.  Inventors, researchers, innovators all ask questions and pursue answers.

k)            Other hindrances can be

·         Being stuck in the past, superstitions, unforgiveness, etc.

·         Fear of past failures and future uncertainties

Starting and being committed to the journey of self-discovery has many benefits, and these include:

·         It helps you to gain a sense of self-awareness by identifying your own values and strengths.  Can easily attain happiness and satisfaction when you are utilizing your strength in the service of a cause that you believe in

·         One can escape being a victim of superstitions, manipulations and societal expectations

·         It prevents burn-out – when one’s strength, interest, and values do not correspond to the scope of their work, it results to stress!

·         When you know who you are, you look through the right ‘lenses’ and easily see opportunities that fit you e.g. you go for the right training, studies, mentors, etc. You easily see the options that support your goals and desires

·         You become more productive; it allows you to tap into that inner energy of inspiration

·         One becomes a personality and not just a population ‘statistic’ – your life counts and you leave a mark in the ‘sand of history’. You start to live and not merely exist.

·         When we give space to who you are, you gain access to hidden insights, wisdom, ideas, gifts, and talents. This is how innovators and inventors arise.

·         Making decisions becomes easier for us.  We struggle mainly because we consider how others will feel, how the culture perceives something, to please others, etc.

·         You become a role model for others, those around you admire your strong personality and can want to emulate you.  

·         Heaven comes down!  If all of us embark on this journey of self-discovery, people would discover that the purpose of their lives is not to cause pain but bring life; then there would be fewer crimes, happier homes, fulfilled lives, fewer street children and school drop-outs. The world becomes a better place for everyone

·         You become a problem solver and thereby famous, sort after, history-maker

In conclusion, self-discovery allows us to know who we are.  Then we can easily see and know what we want in life, and not what others want for ourselves.  When we know who we are, we can easily choose or create work that is aligned with us – this is life-fulfilling! It is your calling which will give you both the greatest fulfillment and the most prosperous rewards.

008: How do I dream?

  A dream can simply be defined as the longing and desires of your heart, an aspiration, a goal or a passion. They are the blueprints of things seen in our hearts, but are still to be manifest into reality.  Everything you and I see or touch is the manifestation of someone’s dream.  As an architect, the concept of taking ideas and putting them on paper is a natural part of my profession. Translating the ideas onto paper is a key step to those ideas actually becoming a reality. As a dreamer, I have to get as comfortable being able to articulate what is in my heart so that I can start bringing them into reality.  When I have met with clients to design something, I find that too often the constraints of their circumstances or a past experience, prevent them from freely dreaming about what they want or need. I tell them that the process of design requires a ‘blue-sky reality’. The constraints of life will in time impose themselves on the process, but we must start with out the imitations of our circumstances dictating or restricting the possibilities of what could be.

 The same applies to our dreams. The older and more established we get, the harder we find it is to step out of our circumstances and into the obscurity of the desires and dreams of our hearts. Life has a way of doing that to us. As kids we had no problem dreaming, but over time the concept of dreaming gives way to the pragmatism of life and all its associated challenges. Do you find yourself in that place where you have forgotten how to dream and don’t know where to begin? Perhaps shattered dreams in your past prevent you from going there again. The question is how do we set aside the constraints of our circumstances to dream again? How do we set aside the disappointment of past shattered dreams to dare to dream again?

 So where do I start? How do I dream? Here are a few simple thoughts:

1.     Your dreams are a gift to you and to those around you. Give yourself grace and enjoy the process.  

2.     Dream without limitations. It costs nothing to dream, but costs you everything not to dream.

3.     Dream big dreams that require God’s partnership to make them come true.

4.     Get yourself a dream journal and start writing down everything that comes to mind. Don’t over analysis it. You can organize your thoughts later. The idea is to stimulate the dreamer inside you. Doesn’t matter how ridiculous it may sound, just write it down! We have found that there is a progressive unfolding of understanding that comes when we start to explore and steward our dreams.  

5.     Ask yourself the following questions… 

a.    What do I want from life?

b.    What do I love to do?

c.     What is driving me? What are the deepest desires of my heart?

d.    What would I do if I had nothing holding me back and I knew I could not fail?

e.    What thoughts, visions or passions are impossible to put out of my mind?

f.      Where would I like to go, what would I do?

g.     What would I give away if I could?

h.    Dream in the different areas of your life. Here are a few examples.

 i.     What are your dreams for your Family?

 ii.     What do you want your Legacy to be?

 iii.     Your Health. 

 iv.     Your relationship with God.

 v.     What kind of Influence / impact do you want to have on others. 

 vi.     What are your dreams for you in your finances?

Once you have defined your dream…and can articulate it with clarity and confidence…it will begin to work and empower your life! It activates your faith, adjusts your thinking, awakens you to action and gives you a boldness to risk. Psalm 37:4 states: ‘Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires (dreams) of your heart’ When you break that word desire down, ‘de’ means of and ‘sire’ means father. Simply translated the word ‘desire’ means ‘of the father’. The desires of our hearts are the by-product of intimacy with the Father. I have found that to be the #1 key for me in this journey. The closer I draw to Him, the more my heart unlocks and the more I find myself dreaming.  

It’s time to unlock the dreamer in you. The world needs you dreaming!.
