“What is honor compared to a woman's love? What is duty against the feel of a newborn son in your arms, or the memory of a brother's smile? Wind and words. Wind and words. We are only human, and the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory, and our great tragedy.” — G.R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓖𝓲𝓻𝓵𝓼 𝓪𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓑𝓪𝓬𝓴 | Prologue
TGATB Playlist / Series Masterlist / Chapter I
Summary: Since first grade, more than 15 years ago, the five girls — Strie (Reader), Helaena, Baela, Rhaena and Sara — have been inseparable, from the very moment they were put together in the back row of the class. Then, ever since they became adults, they have religiously gone on a week-long trip by themselves every summer. But this year is different, as one of them has recently been diagnosed with cancer and a group of boys — their brothers and their friends — have decided to join them.
Pairings: Aemond Targaryen x Strong!Fem!Reader, Helaena Targaryen x Fem!Reader, Aemond Targaryen x Alys Rivers, more to confirm… (Poll at the end of the post!)
A/N: English is not my mother tongue. This story is inspired and based on the netflix series 'Las de la ultima fila', the plot of the story will be similar, but all the changes are ideas that have occurred to me / The characters do not belong to me, they are from G.R.R. Martin.
Series Tag-list: Open! (If you are interested just let me know!)
Tumblr media
“What are you looking at, eh!?" exclaimed a young woman, no more than 23 years old, as she approached the group of men who kept staring at her and her friends. "You've never seen a group of bald women before or what!? Your parents didn't teach you any manners, hm?"
"Strie! Strong!" Baela mumbled as she went to her friend and grabbed her arm, pulling her away from the group of men, as smoke continued to pour from her ears. Strie was furious, to day the least.
"Ladies, let's go over the rules of the trip one last time." Helaena spoke as she closed the circle of friends, not before looking at each and every one of them. Baela, Rhaena, Sara and Strie, she let out a small chuckle as she saw the last one scowling and giving the finger to the group of men she had precisely faced. "Strie, the rules are?" She asked her friend, trying to hide her small smile.
"Girls be for fucking for real, we have the letter 'C' tattooed on our foreheads." Strie said as she made a 'C' with her fingers and brought it to her forehead. “It’s stupid how people—“
"Hey, that's the golden rule. We've agreed that we don't talk about it." Rhaena pointed at her friend and lowered her hand. "We don't talk about cancer or anything related with it. We're going to ignore it completely for a week. As long as the trip lasts."
"Strie is right. You tell me how we're going to ignore the little thing when the five of us are so bald, they can almost see our brains, and everyone's looking at us." Sara spoke as she rested her arm on the Strong girl’s shoulder, with whom she agreed.
"We ignored the little thing and that's it. Heads high, my friend. We've come to enjoy the trip and above all, each other’s company."
"Well said Baela." Helaena nodded and gave a nod of agreement to her cousin. "Well, and the second rule. There's one piece of paper with a challenge to complete. Daily. The sooner we get it out, the more time we have to do what it says."
"Remind me why we do those?" Baela said as she pulled her water bottle out of her bag.
"It's a challenge, a to-do thing, that we have not dared to explore for fear of the consequences..." Explained Strie looking at her friend with a small smile. "...with other people or oneself." She finished saying as she ran a hand over her shaved head.
It still felt weird to feel her head like this. All of them would agree with that.
"I think it's a great game, but can you explain to me WHY THE HELL ARE THEY HERE!?" Baela asked as she pointed her head in Strie's direction, who confusedly followed her friend's gaze and turned around.
Her jaw dropped as she saw a group of five guys, very well known to them. Jace, Cregan, Criston, Aegon and... Aemond. All five came with a suitcase or backpack slung over their shoulders. Jace and Aegon wore amused, mocking smiles on their faces when they saw the group of you women by the gate.
"We had said you weren't coming to Menorca, that it was our holiday destination. Not yours. That's how we decided." Helaena said, crossing her arms as she reproached her older brother.
"It was your decision, Hel." Aegon said, plopping down in one of the seats near the group.
"Of all the places — of all the holiday destinations in the whole world? You have to come to the same one? Gods! How you love to be a pain in the ass." Mumbled the last part Cregan's little sister, frowning.
"Are we really going to keep ignoring the elephant in the room?" asked Jace, looking around at everyone present, especially the women. "Why the fuck are you all bald?" He said running a hand over his older sister’s head.
“Jace, goddammit! Stop that!”
After that, the five girls looked at each other and silently nodded, having come to an agreement without needing to say anything.
"We'll explain it once, we won't repeat it. You will not be able to ask questions for the duration of our holiday." Rhaena said as she looked at the new arrivals, who seemed to be full of questions and curiosity.
"That is the golden rule. You promise to abide by it, each and every one of you." Sara pointed her finger in warning, passing her gaze first to her brother and then to the rest of the boys.
They all nodded, reluctantly.
"Well? Why are you five bald?" Criston Cole broke the silence.
"One of us... has cancer. We're going on a trip just before the first cycle of chemo." Helaena spoke with a sad smile adorning her face, as she took Strie's hand, who in turn took Sara's too.
"Cancer? Who is the one who is sick? Why didn't you tell us anything?" Aemond spoke for the first time, glancing at his sister fleetingly, to focus all his attention then on Strie, who for the first time in six months was able to look him in the eye.
"No questions asked, as we had told you. Not until our holiday is over." Strie pointed out, as she rested her head on Helaena's shoulder, with whom he was still holding hands.
Chaos erupted. All the boys demanded answers, while the girls tried to park the subject. Aemond and Strie remained silent, looking at each other.
He was preparing a mental list of questions he would ask both her and his sister in a week's time.
She, meanwhile, with her heart pounding against her chest and echoing in her ears, could only think of the precise reason why their friendship had gone to shit.
"Remember how we said that between us, the truth always comes first?"
"Yes, of course. What is it Alys? Is there something I can help you with?"
"I find Aemond hot, i like him too. Aaaannd I think he is so into me.”
Even though it had been a bit over six months since that day, the young woman couldn't stop thinking about that New Year's Eve. The cold tone with which Alys, whom she had considered her friend since her first year of university, had said those words, along with the small, smug and arrogant smile she had accompanied them with.
She broke eye contact with him and wished with all her heart that things weren't going to get out of hand that week.

Can we appreciate for a moment the talent of Aemond and Criston as actual leaders.
Spoilers Ahead.
People often times forget because of Aemond's major fuck ups toward the end of the war.
But Criston and Aemond did the Lord's work for a good portion of the conflict.
One cannot impress how undermanned the Greens were for the entire war. The Greens only ever fielded two dragon riders at a time. Aemond on Vhagar and a shifting roster of either Aegon on Sunfyre - for the early stages of the war - and Daeron on Tessarion who was always kept in reserve till at utmost need.
Through a good portion of the war Aemond was the Greens only Dragon Rider in active combat. While Aegon was so badly wounded that he was barely alive and Daeron was left to guard King's Landing and Alicent - also because Aemond and Criston were super protective of him.
Also, House Hightower is a collection of soft boy fuck ups. They had the largest house with the biggest army and they couldn't even get their men out of Oldtown. They were getting rocked monthly by smaller armies from the Tarlys and Rowans, it's fucking embarrassing. For the duration of the war, till they were forced to send Daeron south to take over and reorganize the Hightower forces into a cohesive army, there was no help from Oldtown.
Don't get me wrong, when Daeron finally got them moving, they ate and oh did they fuck. But that's after the disasters of the "Butcher's Ball" and the fall of King's Landing.
In the meantime they were going against an enemy with twelve - TWELVE - dragons and the support of three of the largest houses in the realm. Meanwhile your main support is with the Common People and your most powerful ally is buried by bureaucracy in Oldtown.
And even then - EVEN THEN - Aemond and Criston outfoxed Daemon for most of the war, continued to keep the realm together and rule it deftly, and even - at one point - caused the Blacks to almost give up, despite their dragon advantage.
Daemon is like 'we need Harrenhal to cut off King's Landing.' And Criston is like 'Yeah, you do ... that's why we're here' and they fuck the Blackwoods and Daemon, sending them scurrying away. Making Daemon realize that they need Dragon Riders, cause they can't beat Criston and Aemond in the field.
Cause my boys are just. that. good. at this business.
Also I love the Pokemon battle at Harrenhal between Alys and Criston.
"Alys uses "Sexy Booby Magic" - Criston is unaffected."
"Criston uses "Devoted Piety toward his Queen""
"Alys is confused and attacks herself"
Even with plot armor and G.R.R. Martin's blessings as being his fave, the Blacks still couldn't overcome Alicent's boys.
Of course, then Aemond got cocky, and Daemon taunted him into acting without thinking - Sexy Booby Magic will do that to a man. And the whole thing slipped away.
But for a moment there, even with the Dragon Seed Riders. Aemond being actually a good and popular regent. Criston holding it down on the field of battle as Hand and field marshal, and Daeron destroying all the Black forces in the South in one decisive blow - and all on his own - made the Blacks almost throw in the towel.
Listen, it's in the book. When they found out that our boy Daeron was in Oldtown and was rebuilding that Hightower army from the ground up. They all knew on Dragonstone that they were straight fucked.
If Aemond had only listened to Alicent and Criston, man. If they had just waited for Daeron to get those good old southern boys up and moving to join the Lannisters, Daemon would've been done, and it would be a wrap for Team Black.
The Tullys and the Starks would've been no match against Daeron and Tessarion - They weren't at Tumblestone. And especially not with the full might of his elite forces and the Lannister host combined. I mean, yeah, maybe the Blacks would've still beaten Criston, maybe Aemond would've still chased Daemon, leaving Criston twisting in the wind. But the entire Black Army would've been caught between Daeron and Criston in the Riverlands. And Rhaenyra would've never been able to hold King's Landing long without the main Black forces who would've been surrounded at Harrenhal.
Love, guys ...
Aemond out there looking for redemption for "Blood & Cheese" running off half-cocked to rescue Alys from Daemon - remembering what happened to Helaena. Criston running headlong into a trap with his men outside of King's Landing trying to rescue Alicent. And Daeron (Maybe or Maybe not) dying in an act of supreme gallantry at the very end of the war by saving his men and his foes lives by going toe to toe with Vermethor (The Bronze Terror) when the largest dragon on earth goes crazy and starts killing everything and everyone.
Them Green boys, Alicent's boys, man ...
They love too hard.

As we said, House of the Dragon is based on Fire & Blood, which Martin has called a “fake history” book. It’s not a novel where the story is told start to finish. Rather, the book is “written” by Archmaester Gyldayn, a historian born many years after the events he’s writing about. As such, he’s working with different primary sources, some of which conflict with each other. What really happened during the Dance of the Dragons? The sources aren’t clear, so neither are we.
Martin got the idea for telling a story with conflicting perspectives many years ago while doing research for a book about journalism. He was trying to find out the number of stories in a certain building long since razed, and found that different books said different things.
That said, the TV version of Fire & Blood won’t have conflicting perspectives — the writers chose which version is the “real” one — although Martin and the rest of the team did consider framing the story with Archmaester Gyldayn writing 200 years later, which would have allowed for us to see different versions of the same events. “Sort of a Rashômon approach,” as Martin put it.

House of the Dragon is a “dark…complex…very human” story

For the ask bingo: Jinchuriki Temari & Shikadai (need a good mother son tale with a splash of drama) <333
Thank you for joining my 60 sub challenge ask bingo 🖤
This is PART TWO of my newly created jinchuuriki Temari AU. Part one is linked below, and is attached to another ask.
Read down below ✨❣
BLOOD AND GOLD
part one | part two
Word count: 739 words
Tags: Canon divergence. "If G.R.R Martin can then so can I". War.
Shikadai’s favourite sensory games when he was a child was bringing his soft fingers over the rough, scarred wrists of Temari’s. It was something alluring in it, the difference in texture and colour, and it was the perfect distraction when he needed to calm down for bed. Then Temari would hold him in her lap and feed him milky rice as a night snack while he was busy letting his fingers follow trails of scars that powerful chakra cuffs once had created in her wrists.
He often asked where they came from and Temari would tell him that she used to be chained in a cave. And so followed a ton of ‘whys’, which Temari would sometimes reply to, and sometimes not, depending on how fast Shikadai fell asleep after the warm milk and rice combo.
He got to know mother was a jinchuuriki early on, it was as clear at the fact that the sun is hot, and the desert is dangerous. He never got to see Shukaku, only know of the Tailed Beast’s existence on an abstract level. Temari preferred to keep her powers a private matter, and that privacy extended to her son too. Only Shikamaru knew the extension of her being.
It wasn’t until many years later, after Temari had ruled Sunakagure with an, according to Shikamaru, iron fist to avoid the looming civil war, when it wasn’t possible to avoid conflict anymore, that Shikadai got to see her full powers.
The apple didn’t fall too far from the tree and Temari had tried her best after succeeding her father’s seat on the Kage throne after assassinating him with the help of Shikamaru when she was twenty. Was she popular for it among the citizens of Suna? Her existence divided the people, and her murder divided the opinions of her brothers too, even far over a decade after the deed was done. Yet, she didn’t regret anything and, according to herself, did her absolute best in ruling a totalitarian military village.
Too bad her citizens were uncontrollable, like this night when the moon was at its brightest. The guerillas had decided to strike and Temari’s temper burned short. In one single dramatic decent, she flew down from the Kazekage’s tower down to the burning streets of her village, her jewel.
“Shikadai, are you okay?” she screamed when Shikadai managed to shut the fire by the tents in the outskirt of the village. Whatever scraps remained of the tents had disintegrated into powder from his wind attack on it, but the fire was gone. “Where’s Shinki? Are you alone?”
Shikadai’s face was black with soot, but his gaze was hard and sure. He wasn’t afraid. He had grown up as the prince of Suna, the son of the Sunese jinchuuriki, and he had been tested since he was young. He could handle it. Ever since he had learned what his mother’s huge scars on her wrists were of, he could handle anything.
“Shinki’s outside the gates,” Shikadai said, throat hurting and voice raw from inhaling smoke.
“Drink water,” Temari ordered after stroking his shoulder. “You did well. Thank you for helping me.”
“It’s my duty,” Shikadai got out before coughing so much he almost shredded blood out of his windpipe.
“You’ve done more than enough,” Temari assured, stroking his back even more. Her son, her most beloved jewel. “It’s time for you to rest now, my jewel. It’s time for me to put an end to this fucking ruckus.”
Shikadai looked up at her, even if he was just as tall as her now. Still, he looked up.
“Are you sure you can – “ he asked, and the worry in his voice was real. “They’re so many – and not even Dad could stop them last time.“ Shikadai has been deadly terrified of his father’s possible death since Shikamaru stood on the doorstep of death a few months ago. The Kazekage’s husband was strong, but even this turned out to be too much when he tried.
“My jewel,” Temari said and wiped some soot from Shikadai’s cheek. “You’ve forgotten that I am never alone.”
There it was, the grin filled with razor sharp canines.
“Rest, my sweet boy,” Temari repeated. “I will handle it. I will bring peace back to our village.”
The last thing Shikadai saw before Temari turned around and a tail emerged from her back at will was the black eyes shining with gold.

Being in the Rick and Morty fandom is so relaxing in comparison to other current fandoms because our fave can commit literal genocide on screen and we go: “still would” but a man described in G.R.R. Martin’s books as the “most dangerous man in Westeros” does something remotely bad on screen and the writers of the show are bombarded with hate on social media from fans because it doesn’t line up with their romantic fantasy of what an asshole should be.

Sansa & Catelyn Reunion
This is an idea based on this post of mine.
I was trying to imagine what their reunion would look like.
Arya has soo many connections to death, she’s been exposed to death and violence and war for so long, she’s killed people and she’s currently an acolyte for the house of black and white. Not to mention already having met Beric Dondarion. I think she will be way more open and accepting of LSH.
Sansa on the other hand hasn’t been exposed to death like this or even magic and this will be a completely new and shocking experience for her, if G.R.R. Martin even let’s her reunite with her mother.

So i love how everyone accuses Vizzy T of being a shit father. I just rewatched Driftmark and the Princess and the Queen episode and noticed.
When Alicent says that Jace and Luke are savages for bullying Aemond (after harassing Rhaenyra right after birth), Viserys asks if Aegon was the mastermind/instigator. She avoids the question and tries to place blame in the Velaryon boys again.
In the next episode he never harms or scream or bashes Aemond for claiming the dragon of his sister in law in the night of her funeral, insulting Rhaena, Lord Corlys and Rhaenys, nor he does bashes Aemond for aiming a rock at Rhaenyra's heir.
He was literally dying and losing his sanity in the same episode (coincidentally right after Otto became Hand again, how convenient, no? Especially when he was very lucid when Lyonel was Hand and his death happened a little before Laena's funeral)
Vizzy T is not the BEST dad, but a lame one. But you can not tell me he neglected his kids. He already seemed to know Aegon in the Queen and the Princess episode, in the next one he started to lose reason and Otto was back (same Otto who in Lord of Driftmark incentivated him to drink milk of the Poppy, and i believe this caused an addiction who made his frail body go into shock after the Last Supper). In the next episode Viserys was literally rotting alive and his only frail moment of sanity was full of pain and agony, yet he used to defend his heir and ask for union of his family.
In the matters of succession laws, Maegor the Cruel had made his niece Aera his heir before Viserys did, cases of female ruling Lords or Paramounts were not unheard as seen with Jeyne Arryn and Rhea Royce. The previous liege will of succession is the law, like old time feudalism like G.R.R. Martin stated and based the universe.

Doc's Quarterly Patreon Book Thing: Fantasy
Okay, so, I've been trying to think about how I want to do this, which is basically letting my patreons force me to read a book. I have picked three genres I would say I do not read a lot of, but I know y'all do, and then the fourth quarter will be either open season or as a children's book for children, I haven't decided.
SO. Nominations will be opened on the Patreon Feb 1st. RULES AND THINGS TO KNOW/HOW THIS WILL WORK:
It will be pitchless. You don't need to pitch me! Just Title, Author.
One nomination per person. Your first nom will be considered your nomination, all others will be ignored.
Must be available in print
For this quarter, the genre must be FANTASY. Below, I point out some fantasy novels I have enjoyed and negative-enjoyed, which'll give you both an idea of what i like and what I might consider fantasy. Just good faith effort.
Must think I would like it. You don't have to think it'll slay me and change my life, but this isn't 'let's clown on Doc'. I am doing this in good faith and I assume you will nominate in good faith.
I will RANDOMLY DRAW FIVE of the novels. These five will then be PUT TO A VOTE on patreon. I will not read the comments so if you want to pitch, the comments on that poll will be a good place to do it.
Whatever wins the vote, I'll read.
Okay, then, FANTASY BOOKS I REMEMBER TRULY ENJOYING OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, AS AN ADULT
The Once and Future King by T.H. White
His Dark Materials Series by Phillip Pullman
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher (the first 4 or 5 anyway)
A Song of Ice and Fire Series by G.R.R. Martin (the first 4)
The Gunslinger by Stephen King
The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter
FANTASY BOOKS I REMEMBER DISTINCTLY NOT-ENJOYING OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD
Eragon By Chistopher Paolini
Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling (This is 10000% not a solidarity thing or anything, I fucking hate these books and think they are Not Good. I would not put something I decided to hate for author's politics in a guide for recommendation)
A Wizard of Earthsea by Urusla LeGuin
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan
The Night Circus by Erin Morganstern (In full fairness, i loved this one until the fucking bullshit eyerolling ending)
See?? Despite being an insufferable hater, I do like things! This list of course doesn't include anything where I was like, "That was perfectly fine!" It's made to show the highs and lows.
Does this make sense? I'll put the nomination post on Patreon Feb 1!
