devastating that you can live somewhere and then move away and someone else moves in and they live there and you don’t live there anymore but you lived there once

*i am suddenly transported back to an 18th century sailing vessel*
sailor: aye there lass you’ll want to watch yer balance as the sea rages
me: i appreciate the warning but i am well accustomed to being so tossed about as there is a creature in my time that behaves in much the same manner. having mastered it even the sea holds little fear for me!
sailor: tell me of this beast, for i have never heard of such an animal!
me: it is known as a ‘bus’ and it carries people to and fro across vast distances. it is driven forward by a great and fearless master who navigates the creature. many a bus have I ridden, and as such have an acute sense of- *we are both swept overboard*

going to start texting like a medieval monk… Woe! my brother in christ the line at the banking house has by the will of our Lord God in Heaven taken longer than I had previously in my mortal folly predicted. A lesson to us to remember our own shortcomings and that our Lord is the only Being able to understand in full the world He has blessed us with. Pray that I shall be released so that I may sooner join you. May God Bless and Keep You. - anno domini nostri Jesu Christi MMXXII

the thing about daud is he had absolutely nailed down this grand metaphor with the masks, the whaling knives, living in the flooded and abandoned financial district he’s really successfully hitting the whaling metaphor of bloody slaughter for financial profit that the city runs on. he’s putting on a sort of tongue in cheek show for the city of pseudo respectability (except not really because he doesnt really ever seem or want to seem respectable hes just making. A Joke.) in that hes pretending at having this societally important profession while the people who hire him like burrows have this. barely concealed disgust and open fear of him. And he does this juuuuuust to be petty. And then like a tiny bit of the reality behind the metaphor hits him (maybe the whales suffer daud!), not even the whole force of it (endless bloodshed isnt a stable way to run a society!) and he absolutely loses his fucking mind and does the dunwall equivalent of selling off all your things and emptying your bank account to go live hashtag off the grid combined with a little saint augustine confessions rp. and we see the start of the manifestation of this breakdown. In a whale oil factory. Knife of dunwall truly game of all time.

But Rebecca would never grow old. Rebecca would always be the same. And her I could not fight. She was too strong for me.

thinking about this post from last night and why the idea of a utopia has been so uninteresting to me but is interesting in that context and again i think it's because often the utopia is a front for a dystopia or the utopia is an ending and doesnt offered any examination of what it would be like to actually live in a world where enormous life defining issues just. dont exist. in a utopia where there is death how is grief changed by its context, in a utopia where everyone lives forever dont people feel robbed of a 'life' as the conceived of it? those are just the tip of the iceberg but for me a utopia by nature must be so intrinsically different than our world and therefore the ways to live in it must also be different. not to say that the same emotions dont exist but the ways to reach said emotions are running on inherently different tracks than the ones we're used to. anyway fundamentally for me it does all come down to what if this is heaven and heaven is scary and this part from Anne of the Island

okay have now seen poor things thought it was fun! wish it actually dug into any of the ideas it touched on more deeply i think it was being pulled in a few too many directions. like if we're doing gothic patriarchal horror DO the gothic patriarchal horror. you know? i do think the people complaining about it having a significant focus on sex are being a little silly like i think that one of the topics it approached best was a semi-deconstruction or. mmmm not deconstruction. re-centering? of the born sexy yesterday trope through bella in that the focus was on her sexuality and desires instead of others desires for her. ultimately my thoughts are that the real movie that this movie could have been was the two minutes of bella arriving at the general's house being told that he's her husband and seeing like. the dead quiet servants and the indents of victoria writing 'fuck' over and over on a page that's been tossed out and the lingering sense of something deeply deeply wrong. victorian marriage is a horror movie. to me <3
