The Day Before The First Day
Aziraphale perched near the front of a crowded classroom, surrounded by his peers. Not a seat was open, and angels lined the circular stone walls. White drapes fluttered in the windows, overlooking a glorious mountainscape. There was no ceiling, only a gentle glow from above that suffused the room with peace and elegance. Aziraphale and his classmates wore matching robes of white and gold. Their wings rustled; harps strummed in the background.
“The Almighty is working on something new.” Gabriel stood tall and unflappable at the front of the room. “She has devoted all Her energies into it with a tireless, single-minded focus— for a whole half hour!” He allowed that to sink in. The angels murmured, hooked.
“This project, which we are calling the Great Experiment— my idea by the way— will take place between Heaven and Hell, on a wet spinny rock called Earth. The Almighty plans to give this rock to the favorite of her new Creations: humanity.”
“Why?” demanded one of Aziraphale’s classmates, a blunt-eyed knucklehead named Sandolphon.
Gabriel shrugged. “Who knows? Something to do with free will and the discovery of purpose through suffering and imperfect love.” He waved his hand. “But that’s not important, not to us. We are angels, and our divine purpose comes directly from above.”
Aziraphale glanced upward as a reflex. He’d had few run-ins with the Alpha and Omega personally, but he liked to imagine Heaven’s light emanated from Her wise and all-knowing heart. He shivered in awe.
“Our purpose is to keep the legions of Hell at bay,” Gabriel continued. The lines of his face hardened like stone. “Until the Great War, when we will shatter their defenses and grind their bones into dust.”
Aziraphale shifted uncomfortably at his desk. He’d only ever been in one war before, and he hadn’t liked it at all. He didn’t understand why Lucifer’s minions had to leave Heaven in the first place. Surely there was room enough for everyone, if they could just get along. God’s love was infinite, after all.
Sandolphon grinned. “I like war,” he said. “I think I’ll like a Great War even more. When will that be?”
Gabriel pointed at him. “Sandolphon, I love your enthusiasm, but interrupt me again and I’ll throw you off that balcony.” His face creased in a smile that did not at all undermine his threat. Sandolphon leaned back in his seat. “I don’t know when the Great War will be. No one does. I suppose we’ll get more clues along the way, like a scavenger hunt that goes on for all eternity. Fun, right?” He clapped his hands. “The point is, we have to be ready at all times to serve God’s ineffable plans.”
Aziraphale, who fancied himself a lover of words, repeated this one to himself. Rather less than twenty books had yet been written, and Aziraphale had read all of them at least twice, even The Maintenance Manual for Conscientious Harpists. He’d not heard or read this word before, though, and he didn’t know what it meant, but it sent a little thrill in his heart just the same. ‘Ineffable,’ he mouthed and wiggled, pleased.
Gabriel noticed his lexical rapture and paced between the rows to his desk. Aziraphale sat up straighter, surprised.
“Do you like that word, Aziraphale?” Gabriel tipped his head, lips curled upward in polite amusement.
Aziraphale nodded, wide-eyed.
“Do you know what it means?”
Aziraphale shook his head.
“It means God’s plans are not effable,” Gabriel explained magnanimously. Upon seeing this did not diminish Aziraphale’s confusion like he’d expected, he added with just a touch of asperity, “They cannot be spoken. They are too big for words.”
“Too big for words?” Aziraphale’s first instinct was dismay, but that was quickly swept aside by a crashing wave of wonder. He was bright enough to understand just how little he knew of the great beyond. “Oh my.”
“That’s right.” Gabriel nodded with approval. He said the word again, like he almost understood it.
“More fun news,” he continued, turning to the rest of the class. “One among you will be the first to serve God’s plans on Earth.”
The class tittered. Aziraphale glanced around, wondering who the lucky sod might be.
He looked up again and startled to find Gabriel still standing beside his desk, gazing down at him.
Aziraphale’s heart skipped. “Me?”
Gabriel’s smile was bland. “The Almighty asked for you by name.”
“But…” Aziraphale blinked, utterly confused. There must have been a mistake, some other Aziraphale the Almighty surely meant. “Why?”
“Better not to ask.” Gabriel flashed his teeth. “It’s ineffable.”
Crawly lounged at the back of a dilapidated classroom crowded with gray floors and filing cabinets. Fluorescent lights flickered from a low ceiling. His robe bunched at the knee when he kicked his legs up on the seatback in front of him, flashing black sandals that criss-crossed up his calves. The demon occupying his footrest flicked his head and growled, so Crawly poked him in the neck with a toe. The demon ground his teeth but leaned forward, giving Crawly more room to recline, which he did, indecently.
The classroom was even more claustrophobic than usual, buzzing with the ever-present anticipation of general destruction. Crawly’s fellow demons grunted amongst themselves and paid little attention to the figure standing at the front of the room.
Beelzebub spoke in a monotone, making no attempt to be compelling. Her eyes crossed as she swayed on her feet. Crawly lent half an ear— more than his classmates— and scribbled a quick note on a piece of parchment. He breathed on the drying ink, then folded the paper in half and waved it enticingly at the demon sitting next to him.
“Run this up to Hastur,” he said, just enough of a caress in his voice to keep it from an outright demand. The demon glared at him, suspicious, but took the note like Crawly knew she would and slithered two rows over and several desks up to drop it in Hastur’s lap.
The duke glared at the parchment then twisted around in his seat. Crawly waggled his eyebrows at him. He willed Hastur to take the bait and open the letter— have his wig snatched—
“Surveillance reports say the unbenevolent despot known as the Almighty is working on something new called Earth,” Beelzebub droned. “Where creations made in Her image will walk upon two feet with five toes each, and arms and legs, and all the rest.” A spitball whizzed past her head and landed with a splat on the dusty chalkboard. “She plans to test them with something unpleasant called free will. “
“God’s gotten bored of the angels, has She?” Crawly piped up from the back of the room, interest piqued. His voice cut through the drone. Conversations died out, and Crawly’s peers glanced from him to Beelzebub, taking notice that something if not iniquitous at least moderately irritating was about to happen.
“Can’t say I blame Her,” he drawled, glancing around hopefully for agreement. “Boring, uppity sods without an ounce of imagination between them, am I right?” His question hung in the air, unanswered.
Beelzebub blinked. “I’m talking,” she said, bemused. “Why are you also talking?”
Crawly swung his legs to the floor and unfurled himself from the desk. “Did you say free will?” His voice rose, intrigued. “What’s that?”
Beelzebub rolled her eyes, all of them, even the ones poking out from her kneecaps. She answered in her long-suffering monotone. “It’s space enough from God to choose their own actions, right or wrong, without interference.” At this, she scoffed. “So She says, anyway; we’ll see how long that lasts.”
Crawly’s mind raced. “Well, that’s...” A warm surge of curiosity fizzed in his chest. “...pretty neat.”
Beelzebub’s brow lifted with incredulity. She turned away from Crawly, clearly a lost cause. “The Almighty is sending an angel to watch over the humans and guide them toward righteousness.” Her mouth puckered on the word, and she retched just the slightest bit.
“Hang on,” Crawly interrupted again. “How’s that fair? I thought the point was for them to make their own decisions—”
“Since when has the Almighty acted with consistency?” Beelzebub said. Her eyes blazed briefly, but then she settled back and shrugged. “I suppose encompassing all of existence must get a bit confusing at times.” She lifted a hand to forestall any argument. “I’m not saying I agree with Her, I’m just saying She’s got a lot on her plate, that’s all.”
“But why should the angels have all the fun?” Crawly argued. “Shouldn’t we have some representation up there? Show the humans what a heinous transgression is all about?”
Beelzebub glared at him. “I was getting to that,” she snapped. “Satan, you are annoying.”
Crawly smirked, tossing his hair at the compliment.
“The gates to Earth are equally balanced between Heaven and Hell,” Beelzebub said. “Whatever powers they send, we may send an equal and opposing force, to tempt the humans toward vice and corruption, etcetera etcetera. That way the experiment can remain—” she twirled her hands— “nonpartisan.”
Crawly shrugged. Seemed to him it would make more sense for everyone to stay out of it. He wisely kept this observation to himself.
“So we are sending a demon to Earth to oppose their angel, and more when we get wind of Heaven sending more. As for the first demon to go—” She looked at Crawly, who’s heart began to flutter in spite of himself. “Crawly, you’ve been by far the most irritating demon here today, so I’m sending you.” She glanced around at his classmates, unimpressed. “Really, it’s like the rest of you aren’t even trying.”
“Me?” Crawly blinked, dazed. “Go to Earth? Leave Hell?”
A shriek drew their attention. Hastur leapt from his chair, swatting frantically at the top of his head, which had abruptly caught on fire. Flames licked away his tangled mop-head hair, while Crawly’s note floated innocently to the floor and disintegrated. Crawly glanced at him, then back at Beelzebub, too gobsmacked to appreciate his own prank.
Beelzebub strode forward and clasped his hand in hers. “Don’t thank me,” she said. “You’ve earned it. Now, get up there and make some trouble.”
Stonehenge - 3100 B.C.
Aziraphale stood on a misty moor and watched the humans lug another mammoth stone into place. The current generation used ropes, levers and no small amount of cleverness to manipulate mass far greater than they could hope with only their own strength. Aziraphale watched them with pride. What an exciting time to be on Earth! He sent his thanks to the Almighty for allowing him to witness it.
“What do you suppose the circles mean?” a voice inquired in his ear. “Reckon they even know?”
Aziraphale startled. The demon Crawly slithered from the mist to stand beside him, squinting at the humans.
“Oh. Hello,” Aziraphale said with a small tilt of the head, alight with suspicion but determined to be courteous. The demon turned his slit-eyed gaze upon him. “My, we do seem to cross paths. And how have you been? Still, ah, compelled to acts of base villainy?”
Crawly flashed his incisors. “The basest.”
Aziraphale sighed, his disappointment sincere. “We are all bound to our functions. And what sort of villainy are you instigating here?” he asked, hardly expecting a straightforward answer.
The demon’s features twisted with bemusement. “Tried to convince them this was an alien landing pad,” he said, flicking a hand as the humans hauled another slab across the moor. “But they just keep using it to honor their dead.”
“Alien landing pad?” Aziraphale scoffed. “That’s ridiculous.”
Crawly glanced at him. “It’s a big universe, angel,” he said. “Awfully short-sighted of you to think Earth is the only planet with a bit of life going on.”
“But we know it is,” Aziraphale argued. “Surely Heaven would know if the Almighty was running multiple experiments.”
Crawly shrugged. “Don’t you ever wonder…”
“What?” Aziraphale asked when he trailed off, intrigued despite himself. He often found himself like this, hanging to the demon’s every word. He supposed it was a trick he’d mastered to catch the humans’ attention while tempting them toward vice and corruption. It was just that Crawly’s conversation was so much more interesting than that of his fellow angels. They talked about the humans, mostly, but also placed they’d visited, agriculture, the fermentation of grapes, and stars. It was a far cry from his typical conversation with the other angels, who mostly liked to talk about smiting and their blasted harps.
The demon elected not to finish his question. “What are you doing in this part of the world, anyway?” he asked instead. “I thought you were watching over Enoch the sourpuss.”
“Ah, yes.” He grimaced a smile. “Enoch has seen fit to continue his ministry without, uhm, day-to-day celestial oversight.”
“Hm.” Crawly’s lips twitched. “So, here for pleasure, then?”
Aziraphale bristled. “Certainly not!” He fussed at the neck of his perfectly creased robes. “I am here on very important business in pursuit of the salvation and betterment of humanity— not that you would know anything about that.”
Crawly shuddered in disgust. “I’d rather be cooked in spider stew than know anything about that.” He picked at his chin. “Sympathetic creatures, spiders.”
Aziraphale took a deep, calming breath of the fresh country air. “I like this place,” he declared. “I’ve been here once before, after that dreadful business with Adam’s sons.” His face fell, but then his eyes softened, roaming over the rolling green hills and bluebird sky. “I was called over to direct a bit of glacial melt— ended up creating the English Channel, if you’d believe it— and found the whole experience quite reviving. I think I’d like to settle down here sometime before it’s all over.”
“Before what’s all over?” Crawly said.
Aziraphale’s lips pursed. “Well— all this.” He gestured helpfully at the landscape. “The Earth has to end someday,” he said, like it was common knowledge.
“It does?” Crawly asked. Aziraphale tipped back on his feet and nodded, musing.
“I imagine once the Almighty has finished Her experiment with the humans and decided whether they’re good or bad, She’ll want to dispense with Earth; tidy up her laboratory, as it were.”
“So God created Earth just to destroy it in the end?” Crawly clarified.
Aziraphale stiffened. He liked Crawly’s inquisitive nature, even if he did rather put him on the spot with his questions.
“Of course, one can’t know for sure,” he said with a touch of haughtiness. “God’s plans are ineffable, after all.”
Crawly regarded him with strange yellow eyes. “You really like that word, don’t you?”
Aziraphale picked at his fingernails, ignoring him.
“How can an ineffable plan have an end, anyway? Isn’t saying that it has an end saying something about it, which can’t be done because it’s too big for words?” He tilted his head and repeated it, mocking. “Ineffable.”
“Don’t worry,” Aziraphale reassured him. “Even if the plan does have an end, it’s going to be quite a long time from now.”

July 27: Fusion AU
Jesse hasn't spent much time outside of fusions during this adventure.
(Adventure isn't the best word for it, though.
Nightmare?
Disaster?
Armageddon?
Jesse wouldn't normally go with the last word, but Lukas has a different, more extensive and poetic vocabulary, and they both like the suggestion.)
Fusions require cooperation and are best done when the involved people aren't stressed out of their minds and ready to hide in the dirt forever, but there's enough trust between them that they can manage even during the end of the world.
There's a comfort in that.
Fusions are also almost necessary at this point, capable of doing more than one or two people by themselves, able to run faster, carry more, and do more damage.
Jesse knows some of the worse things that could be said of that, that the group is too weak to function on their own and needs to fuse, that Jesse must need to fuse to be useful since Jesse's been the one doing the most fusing, but there's also the fact that Jesse might just be one of the only things holding the group together.
That's not meant to be bragging, because it's exhausting and not fun in any way, and it does make things harder sometimes, when Jesse has to pull out of a fusion to stop more fighting or make a decision not meant for the others.
Not that they wouldn't be capable, or that fusions couldn't still get the job done, but sometimes it's stuff like the F-Bomb, deadly and dangerous, and Jesse refuses to let anyone else throw themselves in harm's way. Not everyone agrees with that idea, but, well, fusion is usually at least a two way street.
Neither Axel or Olivia would try to keep Jesse in a fusion, make it a trap instead of an experience or make their fusions unstable, and so it only really takes Jesse's refusal.
Maybe they want to help, but Jesse would never let them run into danger if there's a way around it.
Jesse survives the Formidi-Bomb, anyhow, even if the Witherstorm depressingly does too, and the following group hug is tight and relieved enough that Jesse's surprised a fusion doesn't happen then and there.
It gets significantly less joyful once Ellegaard dies.
(Soren tries to get her to fuse with him then and there, insistent that fusing would increase her chances of surviving, but Ellegaard refuses to let him risk himself, giving the same refusal to Magnus and Gabriel afterwards.
She says something about wanting to die as who she is at her core, as a real hero for once, and while that might cover not wanting to kill her friends and their fusions with her injuries, there's more to the statement that gets the Order members to stop arguing, to watch quietly as her breathing shudders, chest heaving one last time, before she goes limp.)
There's yelling and fighting after that, after they try to move on only for the storm, the storms, to rise and shriek and destroy what Ellegaard died for.
That makes fusion both desirable and the last thing Jesse needs, because hiding away, becoming more, sound perfect and also too much like cowering when there's things Jesse has to argue for, has to think over. Arguing with Soren one on one, pushing against his fury, instead of becoming a different person feels like the right thing to do.
Just like going out in the snow, both to comfort Reuben and figure out where to go next, feels right when done alone.
Jesse wants some alone time in general, to process how Ellegaard's death is on Jesse's hands, the same as the trauma of all the people they couldn't save, how Gabriel's condition is only getting worse and Petra's memory of anything to with all of them is entirely gone is also entirely Jesse's fault.
Until Jesse runs into Lukas, at least, bright eyed and worrying his horse's reins between his fingers as he glances between the world outside, a flurry of slowly falling snow and quickly escalating mayhem, and the rest of the group huddled within the cave.
The long and the short of it is that he wants to go after the Ocelots, Petra's description too close to them for it to be anybody else, and he wants to go after them, to find them.
Jesse can't blame him for that and doesn't. Lukas, despite his best efforts and all the help he's given them, has been the outsider, blamed at first for losing Petra and then slowly accepted, with guarded looks and more of a weary agreement to let things lie from Axel than a warming up to.
There's probably also something to be said for how, for all their fusing, none of them have fused with Lukas. They haven't had the history with him that they've had with each other, used to him being a rival and looking down on them and what they do. It can be hard to open up to somebody like that, especially someone they used to compete with and definitely during the end of the world, and fusion requires that kind of bond.
Every fusion has been a reminder that Lukas isn't part of the group, not really part of the team, and it's a reminder of the people he has fused with, the friends he thought he lost until now.
Jesse won't try to hold any of that against him. When none of them know what to do next, at least Lukas has an idea, a plan.
He wants to be with his friends and make sure they're okay.
Those friends might be people Jesse has never gotten along with, but Jesse's not petty enough for that, not now when everything's gone wrong and everyone's so tired.
The hug is short but warm, and understood by both to likely be the last they'll see each other in a while, if not the last time altogether.
Except that when Jesse's eyes open, Lukas isn't there, the cave is considerably more cramped than they would like, and they're stumbling into the snow before they realize they'd even begun to move.
Strike that.
Jesse knows exactly where Lukas is, because he's where Jesse is. He's what Jesse is now, who they are.
An odd time to fuse, maybe, but Jesse's sense of being is melting quickly into Lukas's own and the wonder of existing at all, of being whoever they are. A small chuckle, made more out of surprise than humor, bubbles its way out their throat as they clutch at their hair, one hand going there while the other covers their mouth.
Others, actually. There's a third arm, as lanky as the other two, the hand attached to it shifting quickly to busy itself with prodding at their clothing and the rest of their body.
The lock of hair they manage to grab, pulling into view, is curly, looping between their fingers and easily tugged at by the wind. The bright and pale blond, almost more silver than Lukas's nearly golden hair, stands out well against the dark clouds, rumbling in the distance with thunder, heavy snow, and the screams of a monster.
They would have thought their hair would be dirty blond, a mix of Lukas's hair color and Jesse's brown.
There's another comfort in realizing they'd both already wondered what their fusion what look like, and that they'd both come to the same conclusion on at least a few details.
Being proven wrong by the reality doesn't bother them at all, not any more than it's pleasantly surprising.
It doesn't take long to figure out there are two tongues inside their mouth, lined with smooth teeth that grow sharper the further back they are, or that they now have a long scarf, useful against the current weather and curled around their neck, the flesh there oddly icy. They're tall, though there are far taller fusions out there; this is just one that gives both of them a chance to be at eye level with Axel, if maybe a bit lankier.
They're both startled and not shocked at all when Reuben nudges their leg, tilting his head as he looks up at them.
They'd both forgotten he was there and never stopped thinking about it, and their attention easily shifts to him, his skin oddly warm as they scratch behind both his ears.
Maybe that's them, then?
Their body that's cold, instead of his being toasty, or maybe it has something to do with the environment they fused in, or how they've never fused before.
Another chuckle, this one filled with more warmth, escapes them as Reuben leans into their touch after stiffening for a moment, and there's something to be said for how he'll take attention, even if it's cold. They don't mind crouching more, getting onto their knees even as snow clings to the worn kneecaps of their jeans, to better let him get comfortable with them, to know they don't mind being there for him.
The amusement dies then and there as they're reminded of where they are, who they are, the soft crunch of feet trudging through the snow behind them having them spin around as they draw themselves to their full height again.
There's panic and considerably surprise then, protests about how they don't want to keep Lukas from leaving, or force Jesse to go with, dying on their tongues as they freeze up.
It's just Axel and Olivia, but it's also the end of the world and they're far more Jesse's friends than they are Lukas's.
"Hey, if you want to go, then get. But give Jesse back first." Axel's voice is worn, defeated and tired as the flat looks he levels at them, and they don't miss the way his jaw clenches or how his fingers curl into fists.
Neither does Olivia, if her tugging on the elbow of his sleeve and hissing back at him is any indication.
"Axel, you know that's not how it works."
Whether that's how it works normally or not, it's enough in this case, and he gets what he asked for.
It may be the shock and panic of being caught, of being viewed as a trap, or it may be the faint but steadily growing argument, Ivor and Soren sniping at each other with hardly a pause between words, which is equally startling, but whatever's the reason, they unfuse as quickly as they came into existence, Lukas and Jesse both staggering into the snow as they pull away from each other.

Okay, so this is an excerpt from the third chapter of a fic I am writing. The whole thing is posted on Ao3 right now, but I kind of wanted to post this separately in the hopes of getting feedback specifically on this part. It is an action scene and I am trying to get better at those because I have very little practice with them.
The context necessary to understand this scene is pretty simple. After the explosion at Zurich, Gabriel became Reaper and started his life as a vigilante while Jack became 76 and became a terrorist that works with Talon. The two of them have fought twice before, with Gabriel escaping each time. They don't know each other's identities. Reaper and Ana rejoined the newly recalled Overwatch and no one but Ana knows who Reaper is. Its an r76 thing that will eventually get to a reunion of some kind.
If anyone has any thoughts on it, good and bad, I would love to hear it to try to improve my flow and style when it comes to fight scenes/action scenes. Thank you for the consideration :)
The Past Haunts Chapter 3
They had just begun to get a feel for the other members, just begun to learn how to work together on the field when Reaper was sent out on a retrieval mission. McCree, Lucio, Hanzo, Genji, Lena and Reinhardt accompanied him. They expected heavy resistance, hence sending along the crusader with the rest of the rather large team, but everything started out really well. They were coordinated, everyone listened as McCree led them; he made a great leader when he stopped acting like an idiot. Talon hadn’t expected them and they managed to blow through their grunts with ease and take the package, some kind of computer core in a thick briefcase.
They were awaiting their evac, package in tow, when it happened. Reaper felt a slight pain in his chest briefly before his entire body exploded in agony. He fell to his knees as he tried desperately to break himself apart and escape whatever was causing him this pain, but no matter how hard he tried, he stayed solid, rooted to the spot.
Before he could even begin to figure out what to do he heard two gunshots and a loud pained scream, Lucio. He turned to face where the scream had come from with great effort, only to come face to face with a familiar mask. The rest of his team must have also turned towards the intruder. Reinhardt charged the man before anyone could speak or even really react. Lucio screaming in pain was all he needed to react.
Jesse called out to him clearly noticing, at about the same time Gabriel did, that the response had been expected, goaded even. 76 walked forward calmly as a rocket powered metal giant flew towards him in a frenzy. The mercenary was dragging Lucio along the ground behind him by the hair, Gabriel could see him bleeding. The poor kid’s kneecaps were blown out so he couldn’t skate around. Reinhardt reacted predictably as the masked man held the bleeding, whimpering DJ between him and the rushing crusader. The rocket booster cut off before he accidentally hurt Lucio and the large man stumbled to stop and regain control of himself.
76 dropped the Brazilian, who fell to the floor in a pained heap. The terrorist took advantage of the crusader’s momentum and lack of balance and bodily threw him over his shoulders where the old German hit the ground with a loud thud, dazed for the moment. An arrow shot down from Hanzo’s perch, atop the nearby roof as 76 made swift work of removing Reinhardt’s helmet, the archer being the first person to react sensibly to the situation. The masked man nimbly dodged the silent projectile. Spinning swiftly, a strange mechanical bar glowing in front of his eyes. The damn mask was a tactical visor, of course it was, that was how he noticed the damn arrow in time.
With mechanically enhanced aim his rifle shot a trio of missiles at the building the sniper was perched on. Debris flew everywhere as an explosion rocked the building’s foundation and the portion of it the sniper was on collapsed. Hanzo lept away from the roof to avoid being buried by the collapsing structure, a mistake as three quick pulse rounds found purchase in his body, one in his dominant shoulder, one in the stomach and the last in the chest, inches from his heart. The archer fell heavily from the air, facing the ground bleeding and unmoving.
Reaper growled as he struggled to move. This was bad, the kid was their medic and he was down while the elder Shimada was bleeding out very quickly. McCree, Tracer and Genji all reacted in near unison. The gunslinger was forced to roll away from the falling debris to get a clear shot, bringing his gun out as he did so. Genji unsheathed his sword with a roar and dashed nimbly towards the man who had just shot the cyborg’s brother. All the while Tracer pulls her own pistols out and rapidly blinks to the other side of the masked man, checking up on the still dazed Reinhardt.
76 didn't even bother to dodge the sword being aimed at him. Instead, he used his arm to catch it, the blade sinking down into his forearm, through the armored jacket, stopping only once it hit bone. He staggered back, but no pained sounds escaped from behind that mask. McCree followed up with a quick shot that lodged itself in 76’s shoulder instead of his heart as the staggering back threw his aim off slightly. The gunslinger regained his bearings, recovering from his roll and lined up a shot straight to the bastards head.
Jesse pulled the trigger, the mercenary spun as he and the ninja grappled and suddenly Genji was his target instead. The cyborg reacted quickly, his sword dislodging itself and with a quick spin he deflected the bullet away from himself. A swift hard kick to the back his legs collapsed Genji to his knees as 76 plunged a combat knife into his right shoulder in the perfect spot to render it nonfunctional. A shot caught the mercenary right between the eyes, his mask chipped slightly but held against the revolver’s shot.
The gunslinger adjusted, aiming instead for the man’s heart. The next shot impacted, right in the sternum, as the masked man brought the butt of his rifle down hard on the side of the cyborg’s head. The ninja fell to the ground stunned as three more shots rang out. 76 could not dodge the cowboy’s bullets entirely, but none of them found the target they were actually looking for. Anyone else would have gone down after 4 bullets to the chest, but this man hardly seemed bothered by it as he brought his rifle to bare.
Tracer was back in the fight, Reinhardt climbing to his feet behind her. She was on their assailant in a split second, though not fast enough to stop the first shot out of that rifle. It found purchase in McCree’s mechanical shoulder with a loud clatter, rendering the entire contraption useless, his gun falling from the metal hand. Tracer interrupted any plan to follow up as her guns firing forced the man with the rifle to dodge away.
She blinked around him dodging and shooting, his armor absorbing her individual shots much more effectively than the cowboy’s. After a few seconds of this treatment 76 brought his rifle to bear at an empty spot and fired another trio of rockets. Moments before they exploded against the ground Tracer blinked nearby. The edge of the explosion caught her and she lost her footing. She reversed herself in time a few seconds before the man could get a good shot at her, but he seemed to have been expecting that. As soon as she reappeared a short distance away the butt of his rifle made contact with her chest with a loud crack. She attempted to blink away, but when she vanished this time she did not reappear.
76’s attention strayed too far from the big German man behind him as a massive hammer swung down at him. The mercenary had only a split second to move his arms to take the brunt of the hit as it sent him flying several feet through the air. A soft grunt of pain escaped the masked man for the first time in the fight when he landed with a thud. There was no time to celebrate anything at the sight as 76 recovered quickly to toss a grenade into the center of the group of fallen agents.
The crusader did exactly what his namesake would imply the moment he realized that his friends were in danger. He threw himself on the grenade so it would only harm him. His armor was thick and he was tough, he could take it. There was no explosion, merely a discharge of electricity that easily wound its way along the surface of Reinhardt's armor and into his body through hole where his helmet should have been. His body convulsed briefly and then was completely still.
“Don't move,” Jesse’s voice called out as 76 rose back to his feet. The mercenary ignored him, instead moving to reclaim his rifle. The cowboy shot, his aim wide. “I said freeze,” The man’s voice was somewhere between pained and seething with hatred.
“You're the only one left,” That distorted voice taunted Jesse. “Think you can do this on your own?” McCree didn’t respond and the mercenary ignored his gun. “Do you know what this is?” He asked holding up a metallic cylinder to the cowboy. Reaper recognized it immediately and from the looks of it so did the gunslinger.
“Biotic emitter,” Jesse replied quickly, suddenly unsure of himself. The device could deploy specially engineered nanites that very effectively healed wounds in the field. The nanites were very expensive and had a very short life span once the field was activated, so these devices  were rare and expensive.
“That's right,” His tone was condescending, Gabriel could just imagine the smirk beneath the mask. “Your archer friend is bleeding out quickly and the kid is not doing much better. You give me what I came for willingly and this little trinket makes sure they don’t have to die right now,” Reaper knew McCree well enough to know what he would do. The thought confirmed when the cowboy slowly lowered his gun. “Now drop it,” McCree did as he was told, it was stupid to give up his only weapon against the mercenary, but he wouldn’t let his teammates die if he could help it. “Good boy, now get me that computer core you stole.”
Jesse did as he was told, the case was not really hidden, in fact 76 could probably see the damn thing from where he had stood. It sounded like he simply wanted to gloat. Reaper watched the exchange, watched as the mercenary smashed the butt of his rifle into Jesse’s temple and he fell to the ground unconscious once the handoff was complete. He watched in stunned silence as the masked man dropped the biotic emitter to the ground between Lucio and Hanzo and a soft yellow glow enveloped them, surprised that he kept his end of the bargain.
He stood in the middle of the biotic field himself, stretching his arms and legs as the nanites worked to repair the damage done to his body as well. Once he was satisfied with their progress he turned to face Reaper for the first time since the encounter began. He sauntered over to where Reaper still fought to move his body, the briefcase holding the computer core in one hand, rifle lazily held over his shoulder with his other hand. The man suddenly turned his head slightly to the side and he spoke to someone who was likely monitoring his progress.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, your agents were worthless, but I got the package. I'll be at the extraction point in ten. Don't make me wait,” The mercenary’s attention returned to the only conscious opponent he had left. “Nice team you've got here Reaper,” The wraith growled in response, still unable to actually form words. “This new Overwatch is, at the very least, entertaining. Can't say I've had this much fun in years,”
Gabriel did not understand why this asshole hadn’t killed his teammates, why he was wasting time right now. It only infuriated him more. This man was toying with him, with all of them. If he didn’t kill Reaper right now there was no way in hell the wraith was going to return the favor when the tables were turned. Being merciful was never his strong suit.
“This brings the score in our little game to me with one win and you with two,” 76 squatted down to bring his mask level with Reaper’s own. “It would be a waste to kill you and your friends while I am currently losing,” Was this asshole really treating their fights like it was some damn game? “I'll tie up the score next time, after that I won't have any reason to let you and your heroic little friends live. Consider it incentive to improve your performance,” There was a short pause as those red glowing eyes stared at Reaper. “I'm tempted to take off that mask and see what's underneath it, but i suppose that would be unsportsmanlike right now. I am losing after all,”
76 turned away with a cruel laugh, it sounded inhuman through the mechanical filter he used. Gabriel could only watch helplessly as the man calmly walked away, his prize in hand. Several minutes passed and the buzz that held his body agonizingly in place faded away. He moved rapidly the moment he could, ignoring the agony left behind that still attacked his form. Hanzo had a pulse, was breathing, same with Lucio who must have blacked out at some point because he was also unconscious. He let out a sigh of relief before calling back to HQ.

no no wait
ladybug and chat noir's love did not break the world.
what broke the world was gabriel agreste's victim complex and manipulative as hell tendencies that took advantage of his son and his girlfriend, who were so avidly in love and happy.
the bigger the light, the darker the shadow, and the heavier darkness it leaves behind if it's taken away.
gabriel agreste saw that and forcibly removed marinette from adrien, ultimately learning that his son was one half of Paris' superhero couple, deducing the girl in question must be the other.
gabriel saw a great opportunity, only for it to turn into an even greater one in the span of a few lucky seconds.
it backfired later, ironically because adrien is so good of a person, but that only further proves that this boy and this girl with a feeling so pure and mutual in the meddling hands of a man so desperate to get back what was lost he'd stomp all over his or anyone else's moral compass is the bad part.
so
lovesquare later
stop Hawkmoth/Gabriel agreste now
but that makes fake dating/secret dating aus superior nd either they're gonna make the lovesquare Happen after Hawkmoth, leading up to his demise, or just before he falls idk
idk
esp. because there have been talks about 5 seasons!! and for that im heavily hoping for the latter two but who knows
also i know a lot of ppl saying their love broke the world are just joke posts but i wanted to clarify and then ramble into s4 predictions^^
and also i needed another excuse to complain abt gabriel agreste

we all know that gabriel wouldn't akumatize adrien
bc either
A. He wouldn't risk putting his own son in danger
or
2. he's really just not paying attention to his son's emotions as it is :)
