Hello!!! How is everything? I wanted to ask you if you are still writing I loved and love the gabrily you did (specially pre chot) and wanted to know if you would write more, some months ago you said you had some pieces stared
and could you share some snippets maybe?
Cheers :)
Hello!! I'm busy as always hahah
I must admit, when you sent this, I didn't have anything written that I really wanted to work on, but I did have this idea running circles around my head for a while now, so I decided to write it down. So you are allowed to take full credit for prompting my to write this.
We Are What We Love
“It’s all right, darling.” Gabriel said, more to himself than his wife. “You are going to be just fine. We’re almost at the institute.”
Gabriel spared a glance at Cecily, as he tore down London alleyways with her nestled in his arms. Cecily and Gabriel had encountered a pack of Raum demons on their patrol, and had it not been for a slip on the cobblestone (which, thanks to London weather, was wet enough to be incredibly slippery), she most likely wouldn’t have gotten bitten and scratched by the two demons she had been battling. Gabriel, having been facing in the other direction, didn’t know that his wife was in danger until she called out in pain. Gabriel—most likely in a fury driven craze, from seeing that the demons had struck down and were attacking not just his wife but the mother of his children—managed to slay them with two arrows. The arrows met their mark, though there was no time to admire such shots; once the demons had disappeared, Gabriel immediately threw down his arrow and rushed to kneel down beside Cecily, who was bleeding freely on the street.
“Cecy,” he said, putting a hand to her cheek, while checking for her wounds. “Where does it hurt, darling?”
The look Cecily gave him was enough for him to let out a curse and carefully scoop her up in his arms before sprinting towards the institute.
The look of Cecily’s face now did nothing to raise Gabriel’s spirits: her lips were blue, her face a ghostly parlor to it. Her eyes began to shut.
“No! No, Cecy. Open your eyes.”
Cecily’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, her eyes fluttering open slightly. She moved her lips to form words, but no voice came out.
Thankfully, Gabriel had reached the institute. Bounding up the steps and shouldering open the heavy doors, he called out for Will and Tessa.
They appeared by the stairwell, the children trailing behind Tessa curiously. Will took one glance at Cecily and bounded down the institute staircase as quickly as possible. Gabriel could see Tessa out of the corner of his eye, herding away the children.
“I’m calling the Silent Brothers,” Will said. “take her to the infirmary and do what you can.”
Usually Gabriel would do the exact opposite of whatever Will told him to do, but now he didn’t hesitate to follow Will’s orders.
Once in the infirmary, Gabriel laid Cecily on one of the beds gently, quickly taking a basin and a cloth to clean her wounds. Gabriel was cutting off her gear jacket, when he felt her place her hand over his forearm.
“My leg,” she said so softly, he barely heard her.
Gabriel’s eyes slowly travelled down to her leg. Once he caught sight of it, he could have sworn he was hit with a wave of dizziness.
“By the angel, Cecy.” He whispered.
Gabriel stayed in the infirmary the entire time the silent brothers worked to heal his wife. It was all he could do. When they finished, Brother Enoch took him aside and told him that they were hopeful that Cecily would be alright, though if she didn’t show signs of recovering, the Institute should let them know.
And just like that, they were gone. Gabriel walked up to Cecily’s beside. He’d never seen her look so sick. He sank down in the chair beside her bed and clutched her hand. Even with her sickly appearance, her veins dark against her extremely pale skin, she was the most beautiful woman in the world to him. She was everything to him, and more so now that they had children together. Gabriel didn’t think he could tolerate losing her.
“Gabriel.”
He looked up and saw Tessa standing by the doorway.
“She will be alright. How about you take off your gear and go to bed?”
Gabriel glanced at Cecily.
“I’ll watch her,” Tessa said. “While you’re gone. If it makes you feel more confortable.”
“No, it’s alright, Tessa.” Gabriel said.
He leaned over to kiss Cecily’s forehead goodnight and left the infirmary. Gabriel went through the typical motions of peeling off his gear, washing himself clean of demon ichor and grime from the messy battle.
Once he was in his night clothes—despite the fact that he was utterly exhausted—he forced himself to go down the hall to Anna’s room. As he approached the door (which had been left ajar), he wasn’t surprised to hear his daughter speaking with her brother, telling him a story about—from what Gabriel could gather— a very naughty spider.
When Gabriel cracked open the door, ever so slightly, Anna’s voice trailed off immediately, and he found two pairs of incredibly dark blue eyes blinking at him.
“You two should be asleep.” Gabriel said, though he couldn’t find it in himself to sound stern.
“Papa!” Anna said, trying to look behind him. “Where’s Mam?”
“She’s resting,” Gabriel said, coming inside.
“Will she be alright?” Anna asked quietly.
Gabriel smiled down at her. She looked so much like her mother, Gabriel had trouble believing he had any part in her constitution. He sat down on the bed, in front of them. “Yes, she will be perfectly fine.”
Anna nodded, relieved. Gabriel thought wistfully of a time where every single worry could be dispelled by a parent’s reassurance. Well…Gabriel’s father had never been reassuring, but Gabriel did remember a simpler time, where everything his father said was true, and that was all there really was too it. Now that Gabriel is an adult himself, he found that the black and white did not exist it the world: it was only a mix of different shades of gray that one simply had to try to make sense of.
“Could you stay here, Papa?” Anna said, her eyes wide. “Only for a little while.”
Christopher nodded beside her.
Gabriel smiled. How could he deny them?
“All right, but only if you promise to try to get some sleep.”
“Yes, Papa.” They both said simultaneously.
Gabriel sat in between them, his back against the headboard.
“I was telling Christopher about the spider I saw this morning.” Anna said, yawning. “You should have seen it, Papa. It was quite big. Bigger than any I’d ever seen.”
Gabriel listened to Anna, even as her words started to slur together, pauses in her speech being longer. Christopher was already curled up beside him, sleeping peacefully. Gabriel barely registered Anna’s heavy breathing, before falling asleep as well.
…
Gabriel woke up with his neck screaming in pain. He winced as he tried to relieve the stiffness by rolling his head. He felt it crack loudly and looked down to make sure he didn’t wake the children. Anna was unbothered, sleeping soundly on her side, her thumb close to her slightly parted lips.
The only time you’ll ever see her completely still, Gabriel remembered Cecily saying with a laugh.
Gabriel looked to his left and was surprised to find that Christopher was not there. He got up quickly, his pulse increasing significantly.
Maybe he went back to his room? But when Gabriel checked, his son was nowhere to be seen.
After a couple of minutes spent searching (rather frantically) Gabriel finally found him in the infirmary, cross legged beside Cecily’s bedside. His tiny back slumping, his head tilted upwards as if he were looking at his mother (though Gabriel knew he wouldn’t be able to see much from down there). A memory flashed before his eyes, one that he had long forgotten until that very moment. Gabriel had been a small child himself, standing by his mother’s bedside as she breathed slowly and raggedly.
“I love you,” she had said to him, her voice barely a whisper. “I love you, Gabriel.”
Gabriel had very few memories of his mother; when he had been an adolescent, he had only one. Now as an adult, as a father, there were certain situations that brought back flashes of his mother.
Snapping out of his haze, he walked towards his son; Gabriel could see his droopy eyelids threatening to close any minute.
“Kit,” he said.
Christopher rubbed his eyes. “Hello, papa. I came to see Mam.”
“Yes, I can see that.”
Kit yawned and lifted his arms, holding them out to Gabriel. His eyes were fluttering closed and he could barely manage to sit straight.
Gabriel lifted him in his arms and Kit immediately snuggled close to his chest.
“Goodnight, Mam.” Kit said suddenly, waving to his mother.
At first Gabriel thought he was only saying because he’d become accustomed to it; however, upon turning around, Gabriel found that Cecily had woken, her dark blue eyes smiling at Christopher and Gabriel, before slipping back into sleep. Gabriel stood still for a while, before looking down at Christopher. The small boy had rested his head on Gabriel’s collarbone, and was already sleeping soundingly. Gabriel took that as a cue to leave the room. He kissed the top of Kit’s head and left the room.
It was many days before Cecily was sitting up once more. Her mangled leg was still too injured to put weight on it, but the poison had slowly left her bloodstream. She had lost a lot of weight in the lapse of time that she was fighting the demon poison and her skin had taken a paler sheen than usual.
Beside her sickly appearance, Cecily made up for it with her usual bright character, that had seemed to remain untouched by the misfortunes for the demon poisoning. She neatly plaited Anna’s unruly dark hair every morning, as she always does and played chess with the children while Gabriel was training. She wistfully spoke about how she missed playing the harp (beside the fact that she was in no condition to play) and going to sleep beside her husband (she only said this when she was alone with Gabriel, though).
Gabriel had gotten used to having to stay up late with the children, waiting for them to drift off to sleep. This left a lot of time for Gabriel to reflect. On the nights where Cecily had been in a more worrying state, he couldn’t help but think of his own father, who had been left a widow with three young children. Except, Benedict had never comforted Gabriel and Gideon when their mother had died. Gabriel was quite sure he never stayed up late to make sure they felt loved and reassured before they fell asleep. He couldn’t comprehend how something so intuitive, something that came so naturally to him, didn’t even ocurre to Benedict to do. Or maybe he had thought of it, but didn’t care enough to act upon it.
“The brothers come tomorrow.” Gabriel said now to Cecily. “We can ask them if you can go back to our room, instead of staying here until you recover.”
“And if they refuse,” Cecily said. “We ignore them, and you take me upstairs anyway.”
Gabriel chuckled. “I can’t refuse you, can I?”
Cecily only shook her head.
Luckily, the Silent Brothers let Cecily go back to her room. The second they left, both Gabriel and Cecily laughed like children as he carried her bridal-style up down the hall and up the stairs to their bedroom.
“Hello again, beautiful bedroom!” Cecily said. “Oh how I missed your oversized windows and tiny automaton. I even missed the mysterious bloodstain on the wallpaper!”
Gabriel shuddered. “We must get rid of that.”
“I must admit, I’ve become quite fond of it,” Cecily said.
Gabriel gave her a pointed look, which earned him a laugh and a kiss on the cheek.
“But most of all, I missed you.” she said.
“I was always here.” Gabriel said, kissing her forehead.
“I know,” She replied. “But I missed you all the same."

Im happy but Im sad cassie feels tid couples dont have room for telling stories, I feel gabrily is very incomplete and needed more plot, we just saw them kissing and then when they had three kids but not what happened, we didnt even get Wills reaction to them dating :(
Tumblr media
The infernal devices couples got devoured by herongratstairs, I'll always be mad at how Cassie acts like no one but them exists in TID. Though she did give some material for minor ships in other TSC series.
Sophideon wedding mention where? Did Sophie change after transformation ceremony? What was it like for her? How did her and Gideon's relationship develop after she stopped being a servant? Her pregnancy issues. Where why what how. I only know that they had a cat in Chain of Thorns
Gabrily probably did something bad to Cassie, cause we barely saw them together even in TLH. What their relationship was like? Did they have any dates? How did he propose her? What do they love doing together? Hello? Hi? How r u, r u guys alive out there? Because I bet they had a wild life, Gabriel threw some man out of the window because he mostly wanted to impress Cecily. Where's that now?
AH Charlotte x Henry.... Do they even have a ship name? Who knows. They're chaotic ones, he got her pregnant BEFORE they confessed their feelings for each other. And y'all keep wondering why Matthew is the way he is. Because his parents are sluts. Working sluts. How are they doing? How did their relationship change after they found out about each other's feelings? What was her first pregnancy like? How was basically everything?
My only hope is the fact that we have 1) Matthew's extra story 2) Anna & Ari story 3) Thomastair story and MAYBE IF GOD EXISTS AND HE WISHES KINDNESS UPON US we'll get some of their parents crumbs.

Dinner Night With the Herondales
Pairing: Gabriel Lightwood & Cecily Herondale
Summary: The title is pretty self-explanatory. Plus baby Anna is a little thunderstorm and her family loves her a lot.
Length: +2k
CW: none
It's a fic for my dearest friend and one of the coolest people I know. happy late birthday!! <3
The lightwood Townhouse, London 1886
Two-year-old Anna Lightwood marches from the nursery, eyes twinkling. She walks across the lounge as her father follows her, trying half-heartedly to retrieve his stolen hat. "Mam!"
Gabriel puts no real effort into it, more concerned Anna doesn't crush into a wall. He seems amused if anything, and by the mischievous smile plastered to Cecily's little girl's face, it's clear she's quite enjoying herself too.
She only stops pacing around the room when she's in front of her, Gabriel on her heels. Bright, eager blue eyes look at her, a replica of her own.
"Ma," Anna says, in that childish, high-pitched voice of hers. Cecily smiles and crouches down so Anna doesn't have to tilt her head so high. Cecily wouldn't be able to do it soon.
The hat was far too wide on her small head, falling forward and covering her eyes. The dark-haired woman fixed it for her daughter. "What a lovely hat you have there, cariad bach."
Anna touches it, pleased with the compliment, and giggles. Her chubby hands grasp the brims of Gabriel's hat – with effort, as it was huge on her – and tilting it as if she's in a show, bowing to her crowd. It only results in the hat falling on her face again. Cecily's heart fills with warmth as she laughs. So confident her daughter is, making mischief and standing for what she wants. Even if it was her husband's hat.
Cecily finds it hard to believe one can possibly love so hard. But she looks at her husband, his green eyes meeting hers. There's this undeniable emotion in his eyes as he looks at her and their daughter, pride and adoration and happiness she feels just as much.
While she gets back on her feet, Gabriel swoops Anna into his arms. The toddler squeals and squirms, her dark hair is revealed when he lifts the hat from her face and puts it neatly on his head. Anna, in an instant, retreats to kicking her arms and legs in protest. The maid enters the lounge just a moment after, quick to bring Anna a hat fitting her size. It matches her dress, a blue shade or two lighter than Cecily's own outing dress.
Gabriel thanks the maid while Anna, still not satisfied, attempts to steal his hat once again. The pout on her face makes it hard to do anything but laugh. "You're a little troublemaker, aren't you?" He says, arching an amused eyebrow at his oldest daughter. Anna, ever unapologetic and confident, puts her hands on her waist and makes a sound of pure dissatisfaction.
"You two, stop it," Cecily sighs. Inside, however, she finds it very entertaining. Being done herself, she takes Anna from Gabriel so he can finish the last touches on his appearance.
"Well," he says with a broad grin, finished fastening his cuffs. He gestures broadly to the door as he links his and his wife's arms together. The graze is gentle and warm. "Off to Wales, we go."
*
"I can't believe it," Gabriel grumbles. It's the fifth time he says this sentence accompanied by a grumpy face he wears ever since they entered the carriage.
"Oh, hush," Cecily says. "There are worse things than that."
"It’s the third time this week!" Gabriel proclaims, visibly annoyed. "And it is only Wednesday." The blue-eyed woman presses her lips at his words, adjusting the toddler on her lap as he continues. "I have never," Gabriel huffed, "ever imagined I'd be subscribed to the `steal-your-in-law's carriage` membership."
Much to their surprise, when they left their townhouse earlier they found the carriage raider – without the carriage and with a note. Soon Gabriel came to the realization his dear in-law, Will, had 'borrowed' his carriage to a visitor of the Institute that wished to go to town but had no carriage available. Had Gabriel's brother lived far from them, they would have gotten stuck.
"I don't believe you had much of an option," Cecily responds, biting down a snort. She seems hardly as irked by her brother's antics. It only agitates him more. "Not that you were asked, for the matter."
The carriage comes to a halt in front of the London Institute. After climbing the stone stairs leading to the door, the three Lightwoods are ushered inside by a maid. She offers to take Gabriel's hat. He refuses, instead letting Ana toy with it like she so loves to do.
The maid bows and quietly rushes to call her masters. No longer than a few minutes later, Tessa Herondale steps into the room.
"Cecily, Gabriel," she welcomes them warmly with open arms, a smile tugged on her lips. They rise from their seats to embrace her. Cecily presses a kiss to her cheek as well, and Tessa kisses Anna's forehead. "It's been some time, hasn't it?"
"Indeed," Cecily agrees, putting her hand on her sister-in-law's forearm. They met in enclave meetings and when they had to visit the institute from time to time, of course, but nothing other than work for the past month. "We've been so caught up with tending to Anna, we barely had time for anything else."
Tessa smiles kindly at them. "The joys of parenthood, I suppose."
Gabriel glances at Tessa's hand, resting on her swollen belly, pregnant with her and Will's first child. "Is it truly safe for you to travel through portals?" he asks. "Do pregnant women suffer any kind of side effects from it?"
Tessa waves her hand dismissively, clearly unbothered by his concern. "Frequent travels through portals are not recommended, but there's no real harm. Besides," she adds as if in an afterthought, "Charlotte is the consul and she visits Idris and London regularly. I doubt she – or Henry, frankly – would have put the fetus in danger if that was the case."
"Oh," Gabriel seems and sounds relieved. The tension set in his shoulders loosens by a fraction. "Right, of course."
Tessa eyes him suspiciously. Before she can query him about that, he changes the subject. "If we're yet at the topic of children," Gabriel grimaces. "You should know that dear husband of yours is one, too. And a thief."
Tessa raises her eyebrows in question, so the green-eyed man elaborates. "He stole our carriage."
"Again?"
"Exactly what I was saying," Gabriel nods. He looks at Cecily who just rolls her eyes. He sighs, and Tessa sighs, and if Church – who is asleep on the lounge's window - could sigh, he would have done that too.
Tessa shakes her head, but shrugs. "William," she says if it solves all Gabriel's problems. "I'll have a word with him."
"I hope your baby won't grow up to be a thief like their father," Gabriel murmurs. "I hold high hopes for it, considering it shares at least half your genes." He'll love the child nonetheless even if they would be an immaculate copy of Will, and all three of them know that. Still, he wishes his nephew would be a bit less impish. Wistful thinking, he knows.
Tessa pushes back brown curls behind her ear. "No matter, now. Shall we go to the portal?"
They agree, so Gabriel picks up little Anna, still fiddling with his hat, and together they go towards the portal of the London institute.

Heronadle estate, North Wales
"Oh my," Linette Herondale says when they appeared on her estate's doorstep. "My beautiful granddaughter, how much you've grown!"
"Hello to you too, Mother," Will jokes, then lets himself be swept into a tight hug. "We’ve come for the food."
"I'm sure you did, cariad, " Will and Cecily's mother says in a lighthearted tone as Edmund opens his arms to welcome his family as well.
Cecily hugs them and watches as her parents hug her husband and daughter just as firmly. After they all get inside, they sit around the broad dinner table. Scents of Cecily's childhood food flare her nostrils. It's been too long since she had a meal of her homeland - the maids serve them cawl, and bara brith, and she feels so nostalgic she almost burst into tears. She concentrates on eating, meanwhile keeping a watch Anna doesn't devour anything she shouldn't. Gabriel, on his part, concentrates on bantering with Will and discussing the latest events of the London Enclave. He asks for a napkin and Will throws it at him.
"Anna, aren’t your father and uncle ridiculous?" Cecily smiles softly at her daughter. She points her finger up, then continues, "Please, never learn from them."
Anna burst out laughing. Gabriel shakes his head at the accusation. It's hardly his fault he has Will as his brother-in-law.
"Why are you so cruel, younger sister, despite we share the same blood?" Will chuckles, just as Gabriel says, "Well, you still married me."
"Not much I can do about the first thing, " Cecily drawls. The people around the table laugh, while Gabriel seems pleased with himself and Anna babbles happily for no reason.
At one point, once they finish dinner and drank some wine - except for Tessa, who's pregnant, and Cecily who said she doesn't feel like it - they settle in front of the fireplace. Cecily and Gabriel sit on the loveseat in front of Cecily's parents, Tessa in the armchair while her husband plays with Anna on the rug.
They brought various toys Anna enjoys with them to dinner, but she is entirely fascinated by a new game her grandparents brought her. It was a colored wooden train carriage, big enough to not be a hazard to Anna's safety.
"Ai'n," she says to Will, pointing at the train. He grins, nodding. The toddler then yawns, so Gabriel gets up to pull her into his arms. It was soon her bedtime, and his parents-in-law made sure to have a bassinet in cases like this. Before he turns to go, Anna protests. Pushing her palms on his chest to get his attention, she looks her father in the eye. "Ta'ain," she demands.
"The young lady got some attitude," Edmund points out, amused.
"Like mother, like daughter," Will muses as Anna says gibberish to Gabriel, to which he nods. She looks very grave and demanding, probably in an attempt to tell him what she wants.
Cecily's about to remark back to her older brother when Gabriel lands his eyes on Cecily, and there's only admiration in them. "I agree. And aren't they perfect?"
He flushes at the realization of his saying, catching the train toy before quickly disappearing out of the room. When he finally returns, Anna is not with him and his cheeks are just slightly less red.
"Rydw i'n dy garu di," Cecily whispers to him when he takes his seat next to her. Gabriel turns away, mostly so they wouldn't see how he fails to repress a wide grin.
"So, Tessa, how much longer it is until you're due?" Linette asks, sipping from her tea. Her legs are crossed and her other hand rests on Edmund's.
They were always affectionate like that, and Cecily has always viewed them as the perfect couple. She grew out of this, learning no marriage is perfect, but she still sees the way they look at each other with love, even after all those years.
"A few weeks," Tessa replies, leaning back against the armchair. Her voice softens, and Gabriel can't describe the emotion written on her face. "I cannot wrap it around my mind. It's something I feel I still ought to get used to."
"We weren't sure we could ever have this," Will comments. He reaches to caress the back of his fingers against Tessa's belly, no longer a bump like it was a few months ago. "It's still difficult to comprehend, you know? That we're creating life."
Cecily and Gabriel look at each other and smile quietly. They watch the other couple have this moment together. They discussed their lives and their loved ones before Linette lifts herself up from the coach.
"Cecily, annwyl," she says, "can you help me with something in the kitchen?"
Cecily obliges and follows her mother until they reach the small space of the kitchen. When they're inside and there's no one to hear, the older woman starts, 'Is there anything going on?"
Cecily frowns. "What do you mean?"
"You might be a grown woman now, and a mother," Linette crosses her arms, "but you're my daughter, and the fact remains intact. There's something you want to tell us, I've noticed it all evening. What is it?"
Cecily levels her eyes with her mother, the same dark blue both her and her brother share. "Nothing bad, I promise," she brushes dust off her blue skirt and straightens up. "Just wait."
She walks back to the parlor, her mother next to her. Gabriel gazes at her as she sits down next to him with a quizzical look. "I think it's time," she concedes, taking Gabriel's hand in hers.
"Time for what?" Tessa quirks an eyebrow at her, and Cecily takes a breath before nodding toward Gabriel.
"We didn't come just the three of us. Cecily, myself, and Anna, that is."
"Oh?" Edmund looks puzzled. "Who else? I've seen no other come through the portal?"
"Well…" Gabriel and Cecily both turn their gaze down.
To Cecily's flat stomach.
"Don't tell me…" Tessa's voice trails off. Cecily's gleaming eyes are her answer.
"Heavens!" Linette puts her hands over her mouth. "Are you pregnant?"
Cecily nods, letting Gabriel rest a protective hand on her stomach. She doesn't need it, and he knows she can handle it on her own just fine, but he also wants to be close to the baby, to her.
It follows a few reactions from all four of the other people in the toom:
"Pregnant!"
"How long have you known?"
"Oh, angels, another Herondale."
"I'm going to have another grandchild?"
They let themselves be surrounded by the love and questions of their family, smiling the whole time.
*
When they returned home with sleeping Anna, Cecily throws her hands around Gabriel. He wraps his hands around her immediately, holding her close. She says the same thing she has said earlier, and on their wedding night, and when he's done something stupid, and when their Anna was born. "Rydw i'n dy garu di."

guess who finally finished chain of thorns over a week later 🤩 my completely unorganized thoughts for the general public anyways chain of thorns spoilers ahead bros
- ghostwriter is the relationship i love them more than i love my life it's just like the cute little moments between them like when lucie was nervous before her parabatai ceremony with cordelia and he was holding her and comforting her i melted
- i honestly think james and matthews relationship was dealt with really well we know nobody is ever gonna top jem and will but i think they were written really well and them in edom together was so emotional to me
- tell me why i was so heartbroken when christopher died but i only cried when grace sent that fire message and wrote that it was created by kit 🥺lol i'll tell you why it's because we got zero real reaction about it
i wanted anna's pov as her baby brother died in her arms
i wanted cecily and gabriel seeing their sons body taken into idris and realizing what happened
where was sophie and gideon who also lost a child comforting them?!?!?
honestly i think that since christopher did die there was a lot of potential there
-i hated the love triangle and felt awful for matthew the entire time cause like didn't we all know jordelia was endgame i meannnn
literally love jordelia tho and i we'll never not think of james saying "sod that" and shooting the door open like sir 🫣also them traveling is something that is so personal to me i am in love with the idea of james and cordelia going all around the world and then taking their kids with them 😍
-after this book i feel like grace is a lost kitten and i want literally nothing more than to adopt her also did anyone else catch at the end when they said that grace doesn't talk much idk but i would like to give her a home
-the thomastair content 🤩🤩🤩 i love them so much i love that they're moving in together i love alastair with his baby brother i love eugenia saying she's gonna renounce her family if they don't accept thomas when he came out. every scene with them was a masterpiece
also alastair's personality like my boy is sassy and sarcastic and i would die for him
-i think the anna and ari's storylines progressed really well and they've come so far since we've first met them 🥺
-anyways my #1 ship matthew x sobriety came true and i could not be more thrilled
the moral of my rant here was that i really loved it and i think it's just cause im so in love with each of the characters but i loved almost every second of this book and didn't want it to end my only complaint would be how christopher's death and other potentially emotional topics (will and tessa crying when they found out the kids were stuck in london) were kind of just glossed over but overall i was in love with them all and i don't think i can accurately describe my feelings so that was my jumbled mess of thoughts
also can we talk about the fairchild twins please

After letting this book stew in the back of my mind a couple days, I've come to add some more points that I was thinking about after I first managed to unload most of my thoughts.
i. In one of the many examples of characters telling each other how much they've changed, Thomas tells Alastair that Alastair is not the same he was before. That Alastair wouldn't have rushed to help Thomas when he was arrested. Wouldn’t have followed Thomas the first place and to make sure he was safe. The person Alastair used to be wouldn’t have looked after Matthew and wouldn’t be reading book after book about paladins to try to help his sister. The first two, three points I can agree on, but that last part. Either Thomas knows nothing about Alastair and Cordelia's relationship, or the writing knows nothing about Alastair who did his everything so Cordelia had happy childhood with a loving father without the darkness behind it all. Seriously.
ii. In the end, it is told that Anna and Ari are looking to adopt kid(s) because there are many Nephilim orphans. Thomas and Alastair talk how they will never get to have kids, but it is never addressed why they couldn't adopt also.
iii. Jesse trains vigorously in order to build up strength, James is looking to train with someone else than Matthew. Why do we never see any adult Shadowhunters train in the series? As if they do not need to maintain and preserve their skills and strength.
iv. James and Alastair never conclude their feud or arrive to a truce.
v. James and Grace never arrive to any conclusion either with each other.
vi. James' story was so tied to Cordelia, Matthew, and Belial that all the other conflicts that were previously introduced weren't properly concluded. Just because James tells Cordelia he isn't angry and no longer cares or thinks about that stuff, in the narrative sense they still remain open with the characters he does not even interact with.
vii. Additionally to the Lightwoods not getting to grieve their children: When Gideon and Sophie appeared at the Iron Tombs, the writing didn't acknowledge them any more than making them present. No reaction, no emotion, nothing that even remotely touched the fact that their nephew had just died by Tatiana, that Gabriel and Cecily have now gone through the same incredibly awful loss as they had right before.
viii. There is similar passiveness in the narrative seen in Queen of Air and Darkness: When Robert has died, Alec rises from beside Robert's body and basically throws himself at Magnus, but Magnus isn't a participant in the action/has no reaction (for instance, doesn't hold Alec or embrace him back). When Isabelle cries because of Robert's death, she is sitting on a couch with Alec and is clinging to him and sobbing against his shoulder, but Alec, like Magnus in that scene mentioned above, isn't written doing anything. His lack of action (for instance, holding his arms around Isabelle or consoling her) just gives the image of him passively sitting there while Isabelle cries her heart out. Similarly Gabriel does have no reaction to Alex's kidnapping, he just holds Cecily who does. But then Cecily or Gabriel aren't allowed to have reaction to Kit actually dying.
ix. Cecily's absence in the final battle could be read as that she remained in Idris because of Alexander (and Kit's death), but having no mention of her or how she is fairing in the rest of the book is just insanely callous.
x. Lucie's secret about the ghosts in their parabatai ceremony rehearsal came out of nowhere since Lucie never really did show any apprehension for any reason becoming parabatai with Cordelia?
xi. The characters are once again attracted to each other's appearance.
xii. Anna's "slim curves" being a constant aspect told about her looks.
xiii. Why is that the Herondale kids (excluding the other part of the pair) are the only ones to have parabatai? It's so strange that such concept as parabatai is "rare" among the Nephilim when they could just benefit greatly from warrior partners who can draw strength from one another, draw stronger runes on one another, and just in general be stronger in battles.
xiv. Thomas is constantly comparing himself to James and Matthew (and no one else) :/ Wonder why...
xv. What meaningful thing did Matthew's character actually do as to the plot in this book? He had no integral part other than being James' voice after James is being possessed by Belial.
xvi. Why was the Blackthorn sword such a huge deal anyway? Wasn't there suppose to be a name for it?
xvii. Jesse's "stolen" runes are never addressed again, neither whether he got them stripped. Which either way raises the question of whether Shadowhunters stripped from their runes (which is told to be a painful procedure) and send into exile could have then reapplied just as well? Could someone like Edmund Herondale who was stripped of his Marks technically become a Shadowhunter once more?
xviii. Why were Lucie's and James' respective powers tied to Belial himself? Belial had no use for Lucie and says as such that he holds no interest over her. Why there is no actual consequence of having 1/4 of Greater Demon blood since their powers disappeared with Belial?
xix. Similarly to Gabriel and Cecily, Kit and Grace had more authentic build-up to a possible relationship whereas all the others were incredibly fabricated and contrived.
xx. There was an illustration (collector's first edition) of Cordelia holding the ice sword. It was supposed to be a tease for the readers waiting for the publication of the book, but then it was just one scene and didn't even really matter even though Cordelia slew Tatiana in Lilith's name.
xxi. Jesse berates and blames Grace for having a choice and making the wrong one as to the whole bracelet mess, but what would've become of Grace had she refused? This is never thought of or addressed by anyone, the least by Jesse. No one but Kit was interested in Grace's victimhood and healing.
xxii. Jesse and Grace's relationship is just left unaddressed the rest of the book (Aside that everyone is looking for James to know how to feel their independent feelings and ganging up on her) after Jesse gets mad at her. They become closer once more towards the end but the writing still rather leaves all things unsaid, so unconcluded.
xxiii. Alastair doesn't bond with anyone else than Thomas. Everyone is doing their missions with their romantic partners because that's how things always go in this series. Why care about mixing things up a bit and have different character interactions?
xxiv. Things that disappeared from previous installment: Ari's wish to befriend Grace, Grace's secret about Tatiana wanting her to seduce Jesse, the rumor/supposition/fact that Grace was bought by Tatiana.
xxv. James barely, if at all, grieves Kit or acknowledges his passing. Cordelia is the same. Matthew does a few times. Thomas was the only one to carry Kit's death with him to the end. It was absurd how quickly Kit's death was brushed aside. He didn't even get a funeral nor even as little as a mention of such.
xxvi. Kit and Grace would've become revolutionary inventors in the Shadowhunter spheres but that would've been too powerful, I guess. (Also great how the only big character described as not conventionally attractive dies??)
xxvii. James and Cordelia's relationship leans heavily on previously established feelings and lacks substance and chemistry, just words and physical desire.
xxviii. If Cordelia's bond with Lilith is ended the moment Belial dies by her blade, then how was she able to heal James with paladin sword?
xxix. Do all the protagonist need to go dimension-hopping as if not to be lesser than the previous ones? No matter, the TMI gang still holds the crown since they've been to Edom and Diyu. TID zero.
xxx. I'm assuming Clare thought it was better that Alec descended from Alex (just assuming since I don't yet know what the "real" family tree looks like), probably also because Kit and Grace don't have the HERONDALE HAIR and obviously their children possibly couldn't.
xxxi. All the unnecessary things in this book greatly outweigh the necessary ones. I don't see any re-read value in any of this. And I still don't know what the series name refers to.

Do you like tid secondary couples? And if so who is your favourite?
As someone who has read TID all the way through nearly ten times now, I’m pretty solid on all my opinions regarding secondary ships in the series. I’ll go through the following:
Henry X Charlotte
Gideon X Sophie
Gabriel X Cecily
Jessamine X Nate… lol jk
To answer your first question generally, YES, I do love and adore all three of the secondary couples, though I’ll go more in-depth just for fun.
To start with… Henry and Charlotte! Alright, these two are EXTREMELY adorable and I love them with all my being. I’ll answer your second question now: these two have to be my favorite secondary TID ship. Their arc together is so wholesome, going from unsure if the other loves them, to realizing that they do indeed love each other and have always loved each other, to working through a pregnancy… my gosh, I could gush about these two for hours. Though Henry and Charlotte are well-loved by the fandom for how genuine and wholesome their connection is, I do think their relationship arc is extremely underrated and dismissed. The “marriage of convenience” trope suddenly turning around and having been about love the entire time not only makes them an amazing couple in literature but also connects to the TID theme of hidden love. Love these two ❤️
Next, I’ll talk about Gideon and Sophie. I’ll be honest, I can’t rant much about these two. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE them and their relationship, but there isn’t much to talk about. They’re amazingly wonderful together, and their little side plot of Sophie being a servant and Gideon being a shadowhunter was intriguing, and I remember wondering what would happen between them when I first read TID six years ago. The scone scene is nothing short of iconic, and the love between them is genuinely beautiful. These two are simple but great!
Then there’s Gabriel and Cecily! I’m going to be honest, the first few times I read TID, I was a bit weirded out by this pairing. I couldn’t quite understand the reasoning behind Cassie matching them up besides a convenient “everyone falls in love with everyone at the end” trope that TID seems to have. The fact that he was 18 when she was 15 also creeped me out, and it wasn’t like I was that fond of Gabriel as a character in the first place. But I believe as I started growing older, and especially after I read TLH for the first time, I could find something to love about these two. Their interactions are quite silly and entertaining in Clockwork Princess, and Gabriel as a character has really warmed up to me, too, which subsequently helped this couple warm up to me. I think the hilarious impossibility of these two being together is what makes me appreciate them the most, more than anything- I mean, who would have thought Gabriel would end up marrying Will’s sister… after Will constantly taunted Gabriel about Tatiana? I think it’s funny as hell.

Gabrily family fic for all of you!! This was originally an ask, but there were so complications, so I'm posting it separately!
...
Though Gabriel was reading, he could see little Christopher out of the corner of his eye as his son tried to climb over his leg. He found that, as a father of two mischievous children, he could already foresee the disaster before it struck. In this case, Kit falling off of the bed.
Gabriel smirked as he dragged his leg away from the edge, towards the middle of the bed, dragging Christopher along with it.
Christopher looked to where Gabriel’s leg was now and where it was before in confusion. The small boy began crawling towards his father’s leg again, only to be pushed back towards the middle. Christopher looked at the leg and then at his father. Gabriel couldn’t help but laugh. “What’s the matter, Kit?”
Christopher began crawling back to Gabriel’s leg, but this time, when Gabriel pushed him back, the small boy laughed in delight. He crawled back quickly to Gabriel’s leg and waited for his father to push him again and again. Gabriel smiled as his son giggled at the simple game until his leg began to feel fatigued; he’d gone on a busy patrol last night and his muscles were still still trying to recover.
So when Christopher sat beside Gabriel’s leg to be pushed again, Gabriel instead used his feet to lift Kit. Cecily, who was knitting something for baby Lucie glanced at Gabriel.
“Please refrain from dropping our son, Gabriel.”
“I used to do this with Anna all of the time, Cecy,” Gabriel said, though he reached up his hand to grab Christopher. “I’ve had plenty of practice.”
Cecily shook her head, though there was a faint smile on her lips.
Gabriel settled his son on his chest. Cecily, upon hearing the sudden silence, flickered her eyes towards them again and burst out laughing.
“Why are you both staring at me like that?” She asked.
They were both peering at her with the same wide eyed expression.
“We feel ignored,” Gabriel said. She could see the faint hint of a smile on his lips.
Cecily chuckled. “Are you trying to make me feel guilty for knitting while you two were playing?”
Gabriel nodded which caused Christopher, who was prone to mimicking everything his father did, to nod as well.
“The two of you are unbelievable,” she said, sighing dramatically.
Christopher laughed at her reaction and Cecily took the opportunity to sweep him into her arms.
“How could you laugh at your own mother?” She said, tickling him. “How cruel you have become, my little Kitten. I feel betrayed.”
Kit, who didn’t understand half of the words coming out of her mouth, only giggled back at her.
“Papa?”
Gabriel, who had been watching Kit and Cecily, startled, having at least enough self control to not holler. He turned his left to find two deep blue orbs peering up at him.
Anna, like Cecily, had the tendency to slip into rooms, unnoticed. Gabriel should be used to it by now, after years of knowing Cecily and for the most part, he was. Yet, with Anna being so small, it was especially difficult to notice when she was right beside him. Gabriel had rather begun to suspect that she could disapparate and later materialize wherever she pleased.
“Anna,” Gabriel said now, rather breathlessly, “You scared me.”
Anna pressed her lips together, already used to this reaction of her father’s. “Papa, could I borrow one of your hats?”
Gabriel shook his head. “Where is the one I let you borrow?”
Anna blinked up at him with wide eyes, her expression catlike. “I may have lost it. But,” she added, before Gabriel could reply, “it wasn’t very stylish, Papa.”
Gabriel blinked at her, before bursting out laughing. It’s true: the hat had been very old and had in fact belonged to his grandfather. Gabriel found it in the attic a short while ago and had thought to gift it to Anna, so that she would stop stealing his current hats. While it used to be endearing to find his hats missing, knowing that Anna was playing with them, it was now becoming quite a major inconvenience, especially when he was in a rush to get to a Clave meeting.
But, of course, he should have foreseen that Anna had quite an eye for fashion and wouldn’t consider that old hat to be suitable. Come to think of it, that fact that she happened to lose it seemed like too much of a coincidence…
“It’s nice to see that you’re at least asking for permission though, Anna.” Cecily chimed in. “Usually you just steal your father’s hats.”
Anna stood on her tiptoes, placing her chin on her parent’s bed. Her dark hair spilled like ink over the white sheets. “It’s only because I can’t reach them. Someone moved the hat stand and now they’re too far to reach from the staircase.”
“So that’s how she managed to steal them,” Gabriel thought out loud. He looked back down at Anna, who was still blinking at him like pleading eyes. “Isn’t it too late to be playing dress up?”
Anna shook her head. “It can’t be too late, I’m not tired at all.”
Just then, however, Anna stifled a yawn, as if the mere thought of sleep was enough to make her tired.
Gabriel swooped her up in his arms and placed her in between himself and Cecily. “Well, it is quite late. How about I tell you a story in the meantime, to help you fall asleep?”
Anna nodded eagerly and cuddled up next to her father, hugging the blankets to her chest.
“Just as long as you don’t tell them about the battle against a certain demon worm.” Cecily said, tucking Kit under her chin and giving Gabriel a pointed look. “That one tends to get them more excited than sleepy.”
Gabriel grinned at her, “Alright then. I guess I’ll tell them about the time we ‘caught’ Jack the Ripper.” Gabriel lightly pinched one of Anna’s rosy cheeks with his knuckles. “You are in it, ducks.”
Anna’s eyes lit up, excited at the idea of being a part of one of her parents' many brave endeavors. As Gabriel told the story, Anna felt her eyes begin to droop, though she couldn’t wipe the smile off her face; she fought against sleep, even as her father’s words became muddled and incoherent. One day, Anna thought to herself, just before slipping into a deep sleep, she would be as brave as her parents and fight just as many scary demons. She would make them very proud.

Chain of Thorns spoilers
I would rather read 300 pages of Cecily, Gabriel, Anna, Henry, Grace and Merry thieves grieving Christopher (which would break me but still) than 300 pages of Matthew x Cordelia and James not being able to tell his wife the truth that we knew since book one

DALLIANCE || Matthew Fairchild
Tumblr media
Matthew Fairchild x Fem!OC
Warnings: mentions of alcoholism. mentions of injury and blood. mild sexism.
Summary: Delilah Lightwood, daughter of Cecily and Gabriel Lightwood, has spent her whole life wanting to be something more than she was born to be. As a Shadowhunter, Delilah's path was written for her before she was even born. However, Delilah wants to to more with her life, prove that Shadowhunters can do more than their legacy written in the history books.
At seventeen years old, Delilah follows in the footsteps of her older sister, Anna. She doesn't necessarily conform to typical societal standards. Drinking away at Downworlder parties, pursuing the artistic career she wants to make for herself, normally attending these alongside herself and her sister, is Matthew Fairchild.
Matthew Fairchild. Someone Delilah had been close with since the academy and someone she shares a special bond with. Not a romance. Not a parabatai bond like Matthew and James share. Their bond is different, a type of bond that cannot be explained.
With Cordelia Carstairs arriving in London, Delilah is delighted, wanting to get to know the girl more. However with the arrival of The Carstairs family comes the Blackthorn family, leaving one James Herondale pining over the mysterious Grace Blackthorn.
With a looming threat over the Shadowhunter world, Delilah finally realises what it means to be a true Shadowhunter...and what her bond with Matthew Fairchild really is.

What other TSC ships do you ship?
I'm not sure which ones you know about besides Clace in my username and icon, but I'm just going to list everything❤️ it's not fully in order, but my favorites are the top one of each
The Infernal Devices:
Will x Tessa
Jem x Tessa
I'm fine with Herongraystairs as a whole when I see it because I love Will and Jem dynamic, but I don't typically go searching for it. I just love to stumble upon it
Sophie x Gideon
Henry x Charlotte
Cecily x Gabriel
The Last Hours
James x Cordelia
Lucie x Jesse
Matthew x James
Anna x Ariadne
Thomas x Alastair
I don't mind Cordelia x Lucie either but it's not so much as shipping as it is not not shipping. I just don't mind it.
The Mortal Instruments
Clace of course
Simon x Izzy
Alec x Magnus
Jocelyn x Luke
Maia x Jordan
Maia x Bat
There are some ships I don't mind seeing but don't really ship. But for the most part, the above is it.
The Dark Artifices
Julian x Emma
Mark x Kieran x Christina
Kit x Ty
I havent actually finished this series, though I've skimmed through the last book for information on certain topics. I need to read the whole series again. It's been a while since I finished book 2.
Favorite Ships
Clace
Herondaisy
Malec
Sizzy
Julian x Emma
Herongraystairs
I tend to love the main ships the most because they give the most content. And I tend to prefer main characters so my heart is more attached to the main ships because it's more attached to the mains. And since The Mortal Instruments is the main TSC series, Clace, Sizzy, and Malec all hold a special place in my heart. Even if I mostly post about Clace over the other two. Clace is one of my all time favorite ships

and one more ask about the gabrily mature fic, in this situation does Cecily know what to expect of sex? or is she like other girls her era where they just knew they had to lay back and let the man do whatever he wanted
tw s*x talk
I planned to write a scene where she has a casual girls' talk with Tessa and Sophie so she probably knows what to expect but at the same time, she doesn't. After all, every experience is different hehe we know that by the time Cecily marries Gabriel (so between 1881-1883), both Tessa and Sophie already had their physical experiences. Wessa's first time happened in canon while Sophideon's first time happened offscreen but we know that Barbara was born in 1880 and they were the first ones to get married so among the group of girls Cecily was the only one who still hadn't had any experience. I mean, she probably made out with Gabriel but nothing much. I think Gabriel was a gentleman and followed the etiquette, especially since they lived with Will and I bet Will must've kept an eye on engaged Gabrily to see if Gabriel was out of line (kinda like what CC implied Wessa are doing after CoT with Blackdale). And I think that being this a tough topic for a lot of people and imagining Cecily is somewhat curious but she doesn't dare to ask anyone openly because she has her own fears about it, makese sense that her chance at knowing stuff is through books or through casual talk with the other girls. I believe she was very anxious leading to her wedding. Talking about it with her friends and with her future husband could relieve her stress a bit so she would go into this new experience with happiness instead of worry because after all, she was going to marry a man she loved and who loved her back with whom she wanted to build a family so it was something she wanted so bad.
