Safe - (Ghost Adventures Crew x Reader)
Request: How about a platonic GAC x non-binary reader, where R is like the younger sibling of the group and all the guys are super overprotective of them, and so like the R is very much an empath and when they are investigating an old hospital R is hit by an overwhelming amount of residual emotions that they like start sobbing and trying to explain to the guys what happened there (the hospital). If you're not feeling this request I get it - mildly annoyed dragon

Being a member of the Ghost Adventures Crew has been a thrill. Like them, you enjoy working to uncover the mysteries of the paranormal. On top of that, you’re an empath. So, having you on the team is nothing but helpful in the discovery of proof. You met the group when you overheard them talking about a haunted house in your hometown. They were discussing the need to find more information. You lived in the neighborhood of the house and decided to fill them in on what you knew. That fateful day, they asked you to join their investigation. You gleefully, albeit nervously, accepted their offer. And the rest is history.
Now, you’re a valued member of the crew. The boys adore you and you’ve become a younger sibling to them. With your adoption into their family, came the overprotectiveness. It was sometimes annoying, but you also understood their nature. This line of work comes with risks. It also serves as a reminder of their love and care. Overall, it’s definitely worth it.
Right now, you’re in the midst of a lockdown. The location is an old hospital that stopped operating in the 50s. Many inhabitants died in these rooms; their bodies riddled with disease not yet curable. Suffering is the main thing you’ve felt throughout this investigation. It’s been bearable so far until it suddenly becomes more.
You walk down the corridor, Nick and Zak in front of you, Aaron behind you. Each of you has cameras grasped in your hands, using them as your eyes. Zak drones on, asking the spirits questions, mildly provoking. Then he halts in the middle of the hallway, turning to face you, Nick, and Aaron.
“I’m going to start an EVP session,” he announces. “Make sure your visual and audio are good. Be alert.” Zak starts the digital recorder, the red light signaling it’s ready. All of you stand where you’ve stopped, surveying the surrounding rooms. You tune Zak out, focusing on the task at hand. You freeze, feeling a breeze shift in the still air.
“Guys,” you warn. “I’m feeling a cold wind around me.” Nick rushes to you, sticking his arm out near you.
“Yeah, I feel it too,” he confirms. Aaron and Zak don’t move from their spots.
“Who’s around Y/N right now?” Zak asks.
“Whoa, Y/N, an orb just flew into you,” Aaron says. At that exact moment, you a wave of sadness and pain engulfs you.
“Ah!” you gasp. The camera in your hand clatters to the floor. Your back collides with the wall behind you and you slide down it. Nick, Aaron, and Zak panic at your collapse. Their commotion falls on deaf ears. You’re so overwhelmed by the emotion flowing through you, their voices are nothing but white noise. Nick, who is closest to you, reaches out and gently grabs your arms.
“Aaron, turn on your flashlight!” he commands. The man does as he’s told. When the light shines on you, they see your visible distress.
“They’re crying!” Nick shouts. Zak practically shoves Nick out of the way and hands him the recording device. He cradles your face in his hands, moving you to look at him.
“Y/N! Can you hear me?” he questions. You don’t answer, continuing to breathe heavily. He removes his hands from your face and places them on your shoulders, lightly shaking you. The sudden motion releases you from your state. You stare wildly at the men in front of you.
“Hey, hey, hey, what happened?” Zak wonders, concerned. You blink slowly, concentrating on catching your breath before answering.
“I-I felt this wall of emotion hit me,” you explain. “A patient’s residual sadness and-and anguish. I felt it take over me and I guess I needed to sit down.”
“Are you okay now?” Aaron speaks. You nod up at him. Zak extends a hand towards you and you let him help you up. The three of them give you a round of hugs, expressing their relief.
“I’m okay. I’m okay,” you smile.
