I bet you didn’t see this coming.

Normally I'm not a fan of ships that don't have some basis in canon (unless one of the characters involved is an OC), particularly those that conflict with ships that do have basis in canon. I'm not 100% sure why (although I know some drawings made by @galaxina-the-pyro played a part), but this is one (and so far the only) exception to that.

In case you're wondering, I haven't deleted my BalGinger kid from existence. I had Baljeet and Ginger getting divorced after a few years (but still remaining on good terms) as part of my headcanon long before I was exposed to Ferbinger.

12. Favorite character to write about this year

Isabella, 100%!!!! She’s one of my favorite characters ever, so I really try to go all-out when I write her and make her as fleshed out as possible! I’ll always wish the show had given her more time to shine (and more positive outcomes in her attempts to spend time with Phineas 😅), so I’m trying to do just that in my writing! She deserves only the best 🥺💕

27. Favorite fanfic author of the year

Ooooh this is tough because I’ve read so many great authors this year, but I have to go with FrsdGirl on AO3. She just appeared out of the blue on AO3 one day and then she just! Kept posting gem after gem!! I love the way she characterizes Phineas and Isabella, she writes pining in the sweetest way and it’s just a delight to read 🥺. And we’re friends now! Which is super cool!

(I will also say I haven’t read much of your writing but I really like what I’ve read this far! Your NOTLP piece was really good 👌)

Aaaaand also the lovely @macaronsforchat for miraculous fic! She wrote SO MUCH amazing fanfic for the love square in 2020 and I had so much fun reading what she posted! She’s an amazing writer and an even better friend 🥰

LISTEN, THIS IS THE GOOD STUFF.

This is the kind of positive, soft romance I like seeing in animation aimed at kids? Because children, who are in that phase of life when you do take such things on TV at face value, grow up and shape their idea of romance based on what is presented on media.

And those two! They’re so supportive of each other, they always help each other, they have such a... natural understanding of each other too?

There is no nasty jealousy that causes the girl to act like a jerk, there is no toxic “pulling the girl’s pigtails” nonsense and neither has to seem smaller for the other’s sake; their respective strengths help each other.

Phineas is a genius inventor, but he still needs help and Isabella has the leadership and organization skills necessary to round the majority of Phineas’ projects up. They’re a team, they’re equals to each other - and they have fun doing this with each other!

It’s not just Phineas’ projects and Isabella just does it for his sake; she has fun with it too and she gets to shine and occasionally she actually has gain from it too - when it earns her one of her Girl Scout batches.
