Second, bitch wtf? How was he a shitty friend, when he literally saved her and her family's life multiple times? And he was a teenager with *GASP 😱* reactions of a teenager, he saw the love of his life, the only women he'd ever love, kiss another man and he had every right to be jealous. He obliviously didn't hold it against her personally if he managed to find time to be with her, along with working 12 hours a day, six days a week. And you're pretending as if Peeta didn't do the very same thing by saying "aLmOsT tHoUgHt ThAt KiSs WaS rEaL" and don't you dare say that Peeta apologized and Gale didn't because Gale might've not apologized with words, but actions.
And third, Gale knows a LOT about survival. He did not blame her, if he blamed her than why would he constantly be with and around her, he was jealous and apparently his crime is that he wasn't completely okay with the girl he loved kissing another dude, the dude who, let's not forget, stalked her for yearsl
okay one yes he did save her and her family's lies but other than that he wasn't really a good or supportive friend. second yes he's jealous but that's not the problem the problem is is that he's mad that she had to kiss penis to survive and he's making her feel guilty about it. I mean he even said it himself "I told you he hated me," I say.
"It's the way he hates you. It's so...familiar. I used to feel like that," he admits. "When I'd watch you kissing him on the screen. Only I knew I wasn't being entirely fair. He can't see that."
Yes Peter was just too but the difference is he realized it was wrong of him to hold it against her for doing what she had to do to survive and that's the difference Peeta take accountability and Gale does not. also Gale just tries to pressure kindness into choosing between him and Peeta even though she tells him multiple times that she can't think about a relationship right now because of her fear of being killed and he doesn't listen and he keeps bringing this up again again I'm going to give you a good example of this
"I knew you'd kiss me."
"How?" I say. Because I didn't know myself.
"Because I'm in pain," he says. "That's the only way I get your attention." He picks up the box. "Don't worry, Katniss. It'll pass."
this is what I'm talking about he literally admitted to making katniss to feel guilty and to kiss him oh and then he complains about her kissing him it's one of my most hated Gale moments because this it's just pure manipulation there's no ifs and their buts about it he knew how she was going to react feeling to him rejected and feeling like he doesn't have a chance with her romantically and he did it anyway and that to me is gross.
here's another example of him being manipulative and blaming katniss.
"I thought...I'll never compete with that. No matter how much pain I'm in." He spins the feather between his thumb and forefinger. "I don't stand a chance if he doesn't get better. You'll never be able to let him go. You'll always feel wrong about being with me."
This is blame. Straight up, Grade A premium blame being put on Katniss because OMG she has strong feelings for someone NOT Gale. This isn’t about her feelings. This is all about him and how he’s been ‘mistreated’ by her. He’s laying all this guilt on her because he can’t handle
I hate that he was making someone else’s pain all about himself. Seriously, your “rival” has been tortured and brainwashed and all you can think about is how this affects you? While your supposed best friend is clearly miserable about this, and all you can do is just add to her emotional turmoil instead of making any kind of attempt at being a supportive friend?
what other example of this type of stuff but these two are the ones that piss me off the most and it really just shows to me that gale would never be a good match for katniss and Peeta is 100 times more better because like even though he's jealous he still a good friend the kindness he is there to support her and be there for her and coming her through nightmares I mean this man literally gives her a locket with Gale in it and so hopes that the create a life together this man is so selfless.
"she had to kiss penis to survive" IM SORRY I'M NOT JUDGING YOU FOR A TYPO BUT THIS HAS ME ROLLING ON THE FLOOR IN TEARS 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Anyways back to the point, as I said, Gale doesn't apologize with words but over time admits he was wrong with his actions.
Second he doesn't push her into a relationship when she isn't ready, that would be Peeta, Gale saw she didn't want it and then backed off after he kissed her, she is the one who continued something romantic. He didn't manipulate her. He was insecure. He was jealous. You can't say he manipulated her just because he loved her in a different way than Peeta.
And while we're on the subject, yes, sometimes people think about how a worse situation for someone else affects them negatively. Gale didn't praise The Capitol for what they did to Peeta, he cooperated with him while still trying to protect Katniss.
Gale was a morally gray character. He wasn't perfect, nobody's saying that he is. But he was realistic and complex and different and he sure as hell was better than Peeta. His motives and actions are much deeper than even Katniss' so I understand how most people can't even comprehend how morally complex he was.
Also you didn't answer why you're following me, like, genuine confusion and no hate but your shitty English made me not understand some of the things you said.

Does anyone else ever notice how Gale is sometimes depicted in Hunger Games stories as an abusive jerk to Katniss or a controlling manipulative bastard(get real people, like she would let him) OR a jealous prick who sets out intentionally to sabotage her relationship with Peeta? Just to name a few.
Why? To justify Everlark. (Luckily lots of Everlark stories don’t actually do this but I still see it and it’s irritating hence this rant)
Gale is actually written OOC a lot just so people can claim that Katniss belongs with Peeta who is apparently so perfect. And I hate it. That’s right up there with (likely) these same people who completely ignore the fact that Peeta manipulated Katniss into a relationship with him prior to the 74th Games during the interviews. (As I said in an earlier post too, the fact that Peeta kept pressuring her after the rebellion to have kids until she gave in just… that bothers me. But I digress.)
Yes, his feelings were probably genuine and yes, Haymitch also played a role in this but it was honestly a d*ck move for him to pull especially since neither of them told her this is what was gonna happen. So she faked it through the 74th Games. And Snow made her continue after while forcing Gale into the role of her cousin instead, something that neither Gale or Katniss liked, as it made them uncomfortable.
I feel that she was with Peeta at the end because she needed hope and he was almost like another Prim for her. Someone she needed to protect. But what happens once she feels like she can stand on her own again? And don’t even get me started on how wildly Gale’s characterization veers into left field upon arrival at District 13. That whole bit made little to no sense to me. Then there’s the end where Collins writes him off by “he goes to District 2 and no one sees him again”. Really.
Everyone in Twelve also probably believed that Everthorne was endgame as the two were seen constantly together and obviously cared about the other and their families very much. Until the reaping happened. As I said before, Katniss’s true love is her sister Prim but Peeta ultimately was Snow’s choice for her. Katniss’s choice was Gale and she even said so in Catching Fire. “Gale is mine and I am his. Anything else is unthinkable”.
So I hate that Suzanne Collins ultimately didn’t have the guts to follow through with that.

Re-reading The Hunger Games trilogy and I just had to talk about this moment:
"The thought of losing him forever, (Gale) my best friend, the only person I trusted with my secrets, was so painful I couldn’t stand it. I could feel my eyes tearing up and my throat starting to close the way it does when I get upset. Then I looked up and there he was, ten feet away, just watching me. Without even thinking, I jumped up and threw my arms around him, making some weird sound that combined laughing, choking, and crying. He was holding me so tightly that I couldn’t see his face, but it was a really long time before he let me go and then he didn’t have much choice, because I’d gotten this unbelievably loud case of the hiccups and had to get a drink."
I remember I started shipping Gale/Katniss in Catching Fire, and omg this scene!! God damn, if this isn’t one of the cutest reunions of people, I don’t know what else is. And around this part there’s also this exchange with Katniss and Hazelle
“He only has Sundays off, and I think he likes saving them for you”. Gale was working in the mines for 12 hours 6 days a week, and he STILL made time just to hang out with Katniss. “If he wanted to he would”, and look at Gale! I just absolutely love them, but I know the ending is going to be heartbreaking for me.

Just finished The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and I'm so hyped for the movie. Here's hoping that in 10 years time this website won't be overrun with people shitting on fans for liking a romantic subplot that was both very prominent and relevant to the narrative because "it's not the point."

Now I want to know what point of Galeniss which almost convince you.
The fact that Gale loved her when she was just Katniss. Not the Girl on Fire, not the Mockingjay, not a Girl from His Class, he fell in love with a girl who has a good aim, sharp attitude, and in a similar position as him.
Gale fell in love with Katniss, but they changed a lot and were no longer compatible. He became angrier at the Capital and was willing to make harder and harder desicions, to save the majority, while Katniss became more and more disturbed by even the smaller deaths and sacrifices. (Which I understand. Not bashing her for that.)
Gale and Katniss loved each other in some way at least, but became two very different people over the course of the story because Gale was a hero and Katniss was a figurehead for the hero. (I can elaborate on that).
Also, I love Childhood Friends to Lovers.

Question #1
Do you have any opinion about *fandom obsession* with Everlark and Galeniss?
Especially during the release of thg movies.
One point we can blame is marketing of the movies, but we can not deny the existence of *semi love triangle* in the novel (we can blame Suzanne Collins' editor too for this point).
Thoughts?

TW: this post contains mentions of severe abuse, trauma and grooming
Am I the only one that thinks that Coin groomed Gale? First off, no, you don't have to be in a relationship with someone to be groomed by them. And grooming does NOT have to be sexual. Please go research it a bit further before commenting.
So if you are familiar with what grooming let's talk about why I think Coin groomed Gale. So basically, she used his trauma and age in a toxic way against him so he would work for her and eventually make the bombs. She saw how young and traumatized he was and she saw how he would to anything to help them win the war and so she used that in her own use which is literal definition of grooming.
And before y'all come saying that he knew what he was doing, he was a child, barely 19, he wasn't aware of the harm his actions were doing and he was very apologetic and blamed himself for all the deaths the bombs caused which doesn't make any sense because Coin was the one who gave out the orders and he was just a child with an idea and wish for a better life for his people. Coin saw that and used it.
Also while we're on the subject I think she used Wiress' death to motivate Beetee, she obvi didn't groom him, but I think she used the death of his wife and the fuel for revenge, but that's a topic for another day.

there's something to be said about gale telling peeta that katniss will choose the person she can't survive without - a sentiment that katniss notices lacks any mention of love or comfort or affection, only partnership and practicality. because survival is the basis of gale and katniss's relationship - their relationship is the product of an oppressive regime where so many people starve and die and suffer. they built a partnership out of pragmatic necessity - friendship and affection and yes, even love, did spring from that, but nevertheless, survival was the foundation for them, and the fact that the majority of their dynamic is spent in the woods and this is the only place gale sees her happy is symbolic of that.
but her relationship with peeta is extremely different. he gives her laughter and comfort and joy no matter where they are. he balances out the temperamental and volatile nature (a characteristic she shares with gale as a result of their conditions) with peacefulness and an appreciation for beauty and goodness. they have a trust and camaraderie and friendship that extends far beyond the need for survival, a bond that connects them beyond merely the need to stay alive and protect their loved ones. it is with peeta that she truly lives and laughs and loves and betters herself. peeta notices and brings out the most wonderful parts of her cold, dispassionate exterior (mockingjay, suzanne collins), gives her an appreciation for beauty in life (dandelion in the spring, the pearl on the beach, etc). he's the calmness and peacefulness that she needs to truly live and feel free and safe, while gale is violence and storms and outbursts (which she may agree with, but his tendencies to choose violence don't satisfy katniss's emotional needs in a relationship like peeta does).
to gale and katniss, love and relationships and friendships and human connection come second to practical concerns and the mere desire to simply not die. for peeta and katniss, love and life are about far more than just survival, which is why they share an emotionally charged connection that's stronger than what gale and katniss have.

I will never understand people who are team Gale. And it's not because he killed the prim because I don't that was his fault it's because of how much of a shity friend he was the katniss. I mean think about it for a second imagine going through the most traumatic experience of your life being forced to kill people and almost dying. And then come back to your best friend and he's like why did you kiss someone even though it was for your survival cuz that is what Gale rest of series. He is making kind of feel bad about being with Peeta even though it was for on survival. And that's why Peter is better because he actually realize that kind of did what she had to do to survive and he has no grudge against her and he's willing to be her friend and be there for andwant her to be happy even though it's not with him.
Alright before I respond, I just gotta say, the only way you would find my account is if you were deliberately searching for Pro-Gale or Pro-Everthorne Posts. You don’t have to like either, but there is no other way you’d find my account. Anyways, let’s hear it.
You’re argument is that Gale is a bad friend because he ‘blamed’ Katniss for what she did to survive the games. I’ve read Catching Fire the most in the series, and there are a whopping 0 quotes of Gale doing this. Here’s what the text actually says: “He (Gale) only has his Sundays off, and I think he likes saving for you (Katniss)” and Katniss says “Hunting with Gale is still the best part of my week”. If Gale was blaming Katniss for the games, I don’t think he’d be trying his hardest to spend time for her, and I also doubt Katniss would be happy with him constantly blaming her. But wait! Hunting with Gale is still her best part of her week.
Now you’re other argument is that Peeta did not blame Katniss for doing the love act for survival. But, didn’t Peeta literally refuse to interact with Katniss leading up to the victory tour. You can make the argument he apologized, but that’s all the proof I need to show that Peeta DID blame her for the games.
Listen, you don’t have to ship Everthorne. That’s fine! I’m not forcing you too! But please do it based on actually canon. Whether you like it or not, Katniss was thinking about Gale from when she was planning to meet him before the reaping, and right to the end when she hoped he would magically appear next to her on the rock.

backwards into the light
"Her pulse quickens, synchronized with Gale's, as if their hearts couldn't resist beating together once they got a chance to again. After a painful sequence of botched and missed opportunities they somehow ended up here, in a strange and terrible place in the middle of the war. She can't bear to be alone anymore, so she holds onto Gale as if her life depended on it, can’t bring herself to reject his comfort again."
(Alternative District 2 reunion. Going all the way to alternative Mockingjay ending. Everthorne.)

Thinking about how the only three canon romances in the THG outside of Everlark (Snowbaird, Odesta, and Katniss's parents) all mirror or foil Everlark in different ways.
Snowbaird is the foil of what happens when selfishness and distrust break two people apart.
Odesta is a mirror of the slow, unexpected love even in terrible situations and the desperation to protect each other.
Katniss's parents are also a mirror in how their love transcended social class and Katniss acting like her mother after her father died when Peeta was tortured in the Capitol.

God, so much of Peeta and Katniss’s relationship is looked at under such a heternormative/white lens that I’m about to go insane. Their relationship is adamantly looked at under category of romantic love, people insist that any progression of their relationship should follow the dichotomy of marriage, sex and children, with any incurred trauma regarding those things neatly swept away.  When I say I like Peeta and Katniss’ friendship better, it’s because it is actually genuine. Their friendship is genuine. Katniss legitimately likes Peeta as a person when she’s not pretending to french him for the cameras. Their romantic love on the other hand, feels too forced, feels too wanted.  It’s been shown Katniss does not experience/feel romantic love as it is the norm. She is more than capable of loving someone in a way that would lead to her wanting to spend her life with/grow old with that person, but a romantic person she is not. I would say she is ace/demiromantic, in which case it is all the more likely that the person she would have eventually wanted to grow old with was Gale. She even considers having left Twelve and living with him in the woods after Prim and his siblings are grown.  “He is mine and I am his, anything else is unthinkable” is a more solid indicator of a love leading to/wanting a eventual cohabitation and a shared and intimate life than “real or not real“ the latter is acknowledging that she does indeed love Peeta, (but not confirming as such in a romantic sense) while the former is claiming Gale as hers, and her as undeniably his. Again, not and never straight up in your face “I love this boy romantically” but “I love this boy enough to say he’s mine, and I am his, and it has been this way already”. Ouch. Don’t quote me about the “hunger on the beach” I’m not about to get into how having physical attraction can blur into other feelings, or how being under pressure can stir up physical feelings, how that could have been Katniss’s sexual awakening, how reacting physically/wanting physical contact does not denote romantic love, and a myriad of other things I could say everytime someone uses that particular quote.  With Katniss and Gale, their love is built on the basis of a shared fellowship, and their “married” life together would be an extension of the comfort and camaraderie they shared before. It wouldn’t be very romantic, but it would be two people who love each other living life together. Their entire thing is figuring out how to live, and as they once found a way to survive before, they would so again.  Same with Peeta, actually. Everyone is really keen on pointing out how Katniss is not that great with relationships and romance, but then it ends there because when Peeta comes nosing about, Katniss now magically has found her inner romantic because he loves her? Everyone we canonically know about her views/feelings on romance is undermined in favor of putting her and Peeta into the mold of a perfect couple. The only time Katniss considers her and Peeta’s married future is under duress of the capitol, ie. what the Capitol would expect of their married life, up to and including having children. A genuine progression of a situation between them would definitely not play out as your standard nuclear relationship, and I for one am sick of the fandom shoving that down everyone's collective throats. Although most people are swallowing happily, so whatever floats their boat.
