Anyways, it’s been a hot minute. I was admittedly skeptical when I first heard about Promare, but I went to see it anyways solely because the animation looked cool. (I then proceeded to watch it 4 more times then paid an absurd amount of money to see it in 4DX). I’m really glad I gave it a chance because the entire movie is SO hype and such a huge serotonin rush!

I drew these about 3 years ago (realizing this made me shrivel into dust), but burnout and quarantine depression made me reluctant to compile any of my sketchdumps, much less draw at all. I’m hoping to slowly get back into the swing of things, but in the meantime, I hope you’re all being kind to yourselves and staying safe.

And lastly, my URL doesn't actually have a story behind it! It's basically just my life, haha. “Extant” is an adjective meaning “ongoing/still in existence” and “exhaustion” is pretty obvious. Essentially, I like alliteration and thought it sounded better than "tired 100% of the time."

Propaganda for Xingqiu and Chongyun: "They have several matching design elements that balance each other out, with Xingqiu being associated with dark blue and black while Chongyun is associated with light blue and white. Chongyun uses the ice element, while Xingqiu uses the water element, which makes them formidable (or at least troublesome, since they freeze the enemies constantly) in a team together in game. They're commonly seen or mentioned together, and while Chongyun occasionally complains about Xingqiu's pranks, they get along well enough that an entire section of Chongyun's character story (in his profile) is dedicated to his friendship with Xingqiu, and vice versa with Xingqiu's story. Propaganda for Mabel and Dipper: "They're the bestest siblings ever. They're twins and have such a wonderful beautiful relationship. Their relationship so important for the show as a whole and Gravity Falls wouldn't be what it is if not for them. They're the reason why I strive to be a good sibling to my own brother. I've been obsessed with this show and them for so many years. They're my favourite and I love them so so much."

Propaganda for Lio and Galo: "First, the obvious- they literally co-pilot a mech during the movie, and them being in sync is required for it to function: the more they understand each other, the better they fight. Also, they're very effective foils: The ice-cold arsonist and the burning-hot firefighter, who are also (as close to canonically as Studio Trigger can get) in gay love."

Something I’ve been spinning around in my brain for the past few weeks is the similarities and differences between galo and laios

And maybe that’s just me being silly about characters I like but like

They both share a lot of qualities but one thing I feel like they are opposite ends of the scale on is being able to read people and their reaction to that

Like laios seems to have a very very hard time understanding people’s feelings, especially towards him, and is distraught to find out when people don’t actually like him because they never outright said so. He doesn’t see how his interests would be off putting to other people, which isn’t inherently bad, but the whole situation seems to cause friction between him and other people. But like he obviously cares about people. He has animosity towards humanity for leaving him and his sisiter behind on a structural level, but he cares for his friends even when they hurt him. He deserves a better, more understanding world frankly lol

Galo on the other hand, to me, seems like he can read people better than I think people give him credit for. He could tell when Aina was kinda backhandedly calling him stupid for being brash, and he could tell when lios dragon was crying for gods sake. It’s not that he doesn’t understand what people feel about him, it’s that he has a pretty high level of not caring what people think of him, cus at the end of the day he’s got a job to do and that’s the most important thing to him. There’s still some things he’s oblivious about, but to me most of what people I think view as him being oblivious to is actually him just having a very high opinion of himself.

The only thing I can say he may be entirely oblivious to is Aina having a small crush on him, and I chalk that up to him seeing aina more like a sister and him being gay lol

But back to the point, aside from the reading people thing, I think laios and galo would infodump about their special interests to each other for hours cus it’s a nice thought. They could like exchange tips for each others professions and eat lots of monster pizza and stuff lol

Hi! Thanks for your ask! This is a good question, and this is my first ask so don’t apologize! Currently my mains are

Dazai/Chuuya aka Soukoku from BSD, I really like their dynamic, just the familiarity they had when they came on screen for the first time together. I think Bungou is really well execute though, so S2 showing that they still can come together and pretty much treat each other the same way / exasperation with no heat? And then the light novels are soo helpful too! I really think they’re sweet for each other, and I just think that’s neat! Plus there’s so much to unpack with their relationship! Yeah Chuuya wasn’t happy when Dazai left, but did he really resent him for it? Did he take it personally? What are they going to do now? All they do whenever they’re together is their best to protect each other.

Gojo Satoru / Geto Suguru from Jujutsu Kaisen, the tragedy! Oh man! It took me a bit to get on board with this, but I’m in for life now. It was the “My six eyes tell me your Geto but my soul knows otherwise.” I haven’t looked back. Gojo so shamelessly admitted that and Geto fighting back? They actually remind me a lot of Soukoku, with the obvious being Gojo = Dazai and Geto = Chuuya, but also Gojo was the one who got left just like Chuuya. So much went wrong for these two when it didn’t have to! If Geto had just took the time to explain, if he didn’t stubbornly try to rationalize his mistake, if Gojo had not taken Geto’s words at face value, if he’d’ve pushed a little more. I really love the impact they had in each other. Geto is the reason Gojo pushes for a better future for young sorcerers (does not seem like it’s going that well) and Gojo was the reason Geto wanted to make the world a better place for sorcerers.

Sun Jing / Qiu Tong from Tamen De Gushi (Their Story), a Chinese manhua. The story is just so cute, innocent, and straight forward. No screwing around, misunderstandings, annoying drama, etc.

Galo / Lio from Promare - this movie was so good! These two are really cute! I’m gonna say they’re semi-canon …

Hua Cheng / Xie Lian Heaven Official’s Blessing. Tragic characters when separated but together work towards their best future! Love it.

Cheng Xiaoshi / Lu Guan from Link Click I watched this on a whim and was so impressed by the characters and story! Im super interested to see where their relationship will take them, especially after what’s been revealed in S2, which I’m still reeling from! I am eagerly waiting for season 3!

Honorable Mentions in no particular order below the cut

Yeong-sin and Seo-bi from Kingdom (kdrama) even though they don’t interact much, them being the only two survivors of the zombie epidemic in Jiyulheon is really what sets them a part for me although anytime they’re around others they act like they don’t know each oher.

TodoDeku was super cute in a very innocent kind of way. I liked that Todoroki was the first person who wasn’t Izuku’s friend who to saw his potential and see him as competition. I haven’t followed My Hero since S4 tho.

Yoruichi / Soi Fon Bleach; I felt Soi Fon’s devastation, to be joined at the hip and devoted and then abandoned and left behind. Yoruichi is merciless, she didn’t gaf lol.

Speed / Trixie sealed in by the 2008 Speed Racer live actions. They were crazy in the anime.

Astrid / Hiccup from the HTTYD film franchise, what a power couple.

Nancy / Edward from Enchanted, they are wasted by Disney but they’re oh so cute!

Aurora / Phillip from Sleeping Beauty, they are also wasted by Disney.

Goku/Chichi Dragon Ball, Chichi is wasted by Akira.

Steve / Bucky too, from Captain America, the way Steve was constantly ready to raise hell for Bucky got me. I pretend anything Phase 3 and after didn’t happen.

long post ahead about triggerverse au

Triggerverse AU [alternate universe] is an AU of an AU is the best way to put it. It was a joke between a friend at first because we noticed some similarities between different shows that trigger has specifically worked on [animation quirks etc etc] and were like "lol what if theres a cinematic universe" but then we thought too hard about it.

You might've noticed the 4 main girls [Seraphine, Thyma, Ren, and Kamiko] are together. This is because, in this AU, a certain goopy guy [Xuihcoatl, who's a longtime OC of mine] comes back AGAIN after the events that happens specifically in the Years Later AU [lwa]. He ends up splicing the 4 different universes together into one in search of the lwa world and chaos ensues because that's not supposed to happen. This also gets the attention of Luluco because shes, yknow, a space cop.

tl;dr for Xuihcoatl. He's gotten many revisions over the years as he's my oldest OC to date. He's the embodiment of Death itself, seeing as he was once the God of Death a long time ago. But when his brothers felt he was too strong, they banished him to the real world. He terrorized humans until a Sorcerer with a certain rod 'killed' him. But his soul was still intact, and he vowed from then on that he'd destroy humanity, no matter how long it took. He eventually holes himself up into the lwa world and the rest is history. In triggerverse, he gathers enough magical energy to regain his old body back, so he appears as an actual dragon in this story. He's just a strong dude basically.

Triggerverse takes place like several years later after any canon story. The girls are well into their late teens [or 20 for Thyma and Ren], making any canon cast characters older adults. For newcomers;

Seraphine is the adopted daughter of Akko Kagari and Diana Cavendish. [She appears heavily in my Years Later AU, she is the Shiny Rod's next holder as well]

Thyma is the adopted daughter of Galo Thymos and Lio Fotia. [She's one of the few remaining humans to still have promare, she got the mutation when she was an infant, and her power is almost identical to what Lio once had.]

Ren is one of the Ryuko and human!Senketsu's children. [Ren has already been in an adventure type scenario, as human!Junketsu came back so life fibers could take their hold on earth again using her little brother, Kenta as a catalyst. But she ends up saving him and stopping Junketsu. I don't have any updated material to give out on this, its over 8 years old and needs to be heavily revised]

Kamiko is the daughter of Michiru Kagemori and Nazuna Hiwatashi. She is the youngest member at the age of 16 and most inexperienced.

Putting a massive cast of different characters together also just seemed fun, the interactions would be whacky and hilarious.

The whole AU is centered around stopping Xuihcoatl from causing anymore problems, but he's a very difficult enemy to face. He goes as far as to bring back human!Junketsu, steal beastmen blood, promare fire, and the Sorcerer's Stone for his own gain. It's up to the cast of the 4 different universes to work together to stop him [in usual trigger fashion] before the fate of their worlds fall into ruin due to the space paradox he caused.

For context as far as the comic you saw;

Xuihcoatl set up base on an dormant volcano, planning to reawaken it once he can grow the promare fire once more. He captured all 4 girls as well as some other characters, like Galo and Lio. He plans to use human's life essence to boost his own magical abilities, as the human soul is strong no matter what. However, seeing her family and friends in danger, Thyma overpowers herself and goes into a rage similar to what Lio was capable of a long time ago. She ultimately blows up the entire mountain using her fire, destroying Xuihcoatl's base and saving her friends and family but she almost dies from it.

What's your favorite Galo moment? Mine is when he says that he'll even save Kray, too. And then punching him in the face. It was a very satisfying one-two punch.

YES yes that one is up there for me, that might be my favorite moment too. Just, everything in the engine room was great, but that specific moment, that moment where he makes it clear that it doesn't matter what happens, who he's saving, he's going to save every last person every single time, because that's just who he is.

I was watching Promare with my friends because one of them hadn't seen Promare yet and we were getting so rowdy, and half of them were like "You know what I think Galo deserves to kill, I think Lio deserves to kill" and I absolutely get there, there are a lot of times in these kinds of movies where you can argue killing someone is a moral good. But you know, A) at that point, it's clear that Kray is no longer an actual threat anymore, unlike, I dunno, the Joker mid-rampage in the Dark Knight, and B) It's a really good encapsulation of Galo's personality.

Like. He's very shonen protagonist. He's very hot headed, act first think later. Plus I'm sure he has a lot of complicated emotions to unpack about Kray, but in that moment he still wanted nothing more than to punch him, so he did. But Galo takes his job so seriously, because it's his passion, and his passion is saving lives No Matter What. (This post makes some really good points on this too, got me thinking about this big time.) Sure, he enjoys the attention it gets him, he enjoys the praise and the respect. He's a bit of an egomaniac, and there's no taking that away from him. But at his heart, he cares about humanity as a whole, and if that means saving bad people as well as good people he will do it. And there is nothing that will ever, ever make him change his mind and compromise that belief, certainly not Kray Foresight.

You know what other Galo bit I love? And I can't call it a moment because it's kind of spread out, but it starts when Galo's first freed from prison, and he sees the Lio Dragon destroying the city, and the first thing he says is "He's crying." And he decides then and there that he's going to save the city AND save Lio. Because Galo loves fighting and beating up the bad guys, he would've been so happy to kick Lio's ass if he thought Lio was a monster. But he'd spoken to Lio, he knew that Lio had that same belief as him, that Lio wanted to save everyone no matter what happened. And when he's talking Lio down in the helicopter, that's what gets through to him, that he saved Lio because he knows Lio would be devastated if he realized he was turning into the monster that people saw him as.
