#game adaptation
Text
After The Last of Us, the Sonic movies, and the Mario movie, there really is no excuse for a bad video game-to-live action adaptation anymore.
The Last of Us showed that a game with a deep, complex story can be translated on screen.
The Sonic movies showed that games that are on the fantastical, whacky side can work on screen.
The Mario movie showed that game franchises that don’t really have a storyline can still work.
The days of video game franchises being an adaptation graveyard are pretty much over.

☆ KUNG FU PANDA 4 ☆
OK, I just finished the new kung Fu Panda movie, and it actually wasn't that bad. I initially went because Jack black was in it, but it turned out pretty good, I didn't like some of the jokes, but it's a kids' film so I guess that's bound to happen. But more importantly, when I was watching the film with my little sister, I thought this would make a great co-op game, like both po and zhen travelling to defeat ' the shapshifting Chameleons sage ' even po's dads could also be a level.
MY IDEA FOR KUNG FU PANDA 4 GAME
( Rough idea ) Warning: SPOLIERS !!
Tumblr media
OK, so my idea is that it's a co-op game at the start. You choose whether you are playing as po and zhen (main storyline) or you travelling as po's dads or you unlock them after completing the main storyline.
Then the game just goes like the movies. The fight between zhen and Po could be a tutorial on the fight mechanics.
FIGHTING. Idk how I would do the actual fighting mechanics, but the openings for each fight are already there in the movie and look good.
THE VILLAINS LARE. OK, the Chameleons (idk if they gave her a name) lair would be an amazing put in video game form. The scene when poh and zhen are jumping through those gates is so cool.
FINAL BOSS. So it is obvious if you watched the movie, but it would be 'The Chameleon.' I mean, in the movie, she goes through stages, and each stage, she transforms into a different form.
Tumblr media
OK, sorry for the rant, but @dreamworksanimation is never going to see this, but in summary, this would make a killer game, and I'd for sure buy it!

The Ultimate Guide to Solo Board Games
In recent years, solo board gaming has quietly emerged from the shadows of its multiplayer counterparts, carving out a distinct and vibrant niche within the board game community. Once considered a pastime for the introverted or those struggling to find a gaming group, solo board gaming has transcended these stereotypes to become a celebrated and integral aspect of the hobby. Whether due to the…

Shinta Reviews: Tekken 2: Kazuyas Revenge
We're taken to Tekken, where one Amnesia-suffering man is abducted by a cult...for reasons the movie itself fails to explain. We swear we know that guy from somewhere...

Mortal Kombat (2021)
The champions of Earth are being hunted down before the tournament can begin but they may be saved by the last descendent of a bloodline thought destroyed.
Although it’s largely an action movie based around fantastical fights, this installment of the franchise included some good character-based storyline. The family of the protagonist was fairly generic although one got a good hit in. The effects easily maintain the entertainment value and there’s range to the classic characters without using them all in one go.
There are many fights of varying kinds but we don’t actually get to the kombat arena which doesn’t matter terribly but does suggest for some time that it’s leading up to something that doesn’t occur. Similarly, the main villain doesn’t get a proper fight scene, being spirited off at the end so that he can be addressed more in a possible sequel, which is a lot to promise in uncertain times.
The actors all suit the roles very well and some even succeed in making the roles their own. There is some development and twists for the characters, unlike earlier attempts, which makes this possibly the best Mortal Kombat so far. It held out and chose the right moments for some of the iconic lines and they worked effectively.
Even though there is a good deal of the franchise already explored, the film could have easily stood more explanation for some of the lore and rules involved, although more time would have been needed for it and it’d have had to be worked in intelligently. In particular, why did Sonya work out her power so quickly? Also, in this reviewer’s humble opinion, they didn’t milk the theme for long enough or heavily enough; a metal version could have banged.
4/10 -It’s below average, but only just!-
-When being led through the tunnels, the group pass Kitana’s fan, a reference to when Kitana led a group through the tunnels in the 1995 film.
-Sub-Zero’s regular name, “bi han” is Chinese for “to keep out the cold”.
-The ice blade was made of resin with a plastic wrap so it appeared to glisten in light like ice.

I do not understand peoples problem with Bella Ramsey as Ellie in the new Last of Us show on HBO. what? they aren’t a carbon copy of Ellie in the game (who I remind you had to be changed cause she looked too much like Elliot Page when he was in Beyond Two Souls which was supposed to come out the same year and they wanted to avoid being sued?)
Really the only deal breaker for me for a reboot of a popular franchise is if they can’t act the part. and from what I’ve seen so far, Bella does a DAMNED good job bringing Ellie justice (and no I’m not being paid to say this like how people have been accusing Ashley Johnson (the OG actress for Ellie) of doing in interviews about the show) and Pedro Pascal already has “grumpy dad character” down to a science after portraying the same character in “The Mandalorian” (cause that’s what he plays. “grumpy dad character to Grogu” you can’t convince me otherwise)
cause honestly, it comes off as two things to me: 1) toddlers complaining that something isn’t perfectly perfect (even though they have like shot for shot frames of the game in the show, yes I noticed and if you didn’t go rewatch a playthrough of TLoU part 1) and 2) grown ass men complaining about Bella Ramsey “not being as conventionally attractive as their animated counterpart” and overall sexualizing Ellie who I REMIND you is THIRTEEN during this part of the story so just... gross.  (also I remind you that Ellie is indeed a lesbian however that’s not the point of this)
Honestly if you’re complaining about something as little as a change in the characters hairstyle then we aren’t going to get adaptations again. (not to mention that if the game had actual hair physics her hair would be in her face ALL THE FUCKING TIME so having it pulled back ‘specially in a zombie apocalypse setting makes more sense) you know cause why would they spend all this time/money/and research if people are just going to complain and not watch it?
(Also, if you’re going to accuse the show of lazy casting and say “these are the same people who casted Uncharted” at the Very least get your facts straight cause Uncharted and The Last of Us didn’t have any of the same people doing the casting the only thing these two have in common is that they’re video game adaptations made by Naughty Dog and Naughty Dog really only had major input for The Last of Us and you REALLY see that)
That’s all I have to say, I’m going to go back and rewatch the episode again (and cry again cause I’m an emotional mess). goodbye.  (Also I Just learned that Bella Ramsey is genderfluid so excuse me while I excitedly squeal in the corner)

Welcome!
What is this blog?
This blog will feature polls testing to see what version of a piece of media people generally prefer, with each poll consisting of the original work and at least one adaptation, which may include direct adaptations as well as re-imaginings and other slightly looser adaptations. For things with lots of different re-adaptations, polls won't be able to be comprehensive, and if there is enough content multiple polls that feature the same original work may be posted!
For what counts as an independent adaptation, I'll for now say the guideline is: anything that basically has its own "continuity" separate from the original/previous version. So, basic adaptations, re-tellings, remakes, perspective swaps by a different creator, etc probably will count; things that are direct spin-offs, (same continuity) reboots, continuations, canonical expanded universe material, etc probably won't. Things do not need to be changed into a different medium to count as an adaptation here. So for example, a film that is remaking another film could still be counted.
To be clear, this is not a tournament. Winners of polls won't be proceeding to go against other winners; its just about polling to see which version of individual properties people like best.
Want to request something?
Send me an ask the original work title, what medium it is in (i.e. book, movie, play, etc), and if there's a specific adaptation you want to make sure makes it into the poll, please make sure you note that as well (otherwise I'll default to including the most popular adaptations/whichever ones I can find, which, as noted above, might mean for works that have been adapted a ton of times that some adaptations are left out). Additional adaptations beyond the one(s) specifically requested may also be included, if they exist.
That's it for now!

Out of curiosity I’d like to know how y’all feel about adaptations. Which is worse for you when a beloved book, game, animated series, etc, gets adapted? Is a total trash fire adaptation worse or is it worse when they get some things right but completely miss on other elements?
