My Terraria battle mini-game is essentially finished at this point.
The only things I could potentially do left is make a second tier of classes or something to that effect, but honestly I do not want to bother with making *and* play testing all of them to make sure they are balanced, so I will be sticking with the one tier of six classes.
Anyway! Here is the overview of the game so far!!
Tumblr media
The arena is meant to look like a spaceship, I have not done much consideration into if layouts would be actually practical for a spaceship honestly lol, but it makes for a good little battle arena.
Tumblr media
And here is all the wiring in place, yes I am aware it is a load of spaghetti but in fairness it is pretty difficult to lay out 18 different spawn points and have all of the different music boxes with only five different colours of wire.
Tumblr media
The main lobby! Here player would teleport in from spawn with the left platform. Instructions on how to play are on the red signs and then there are teleporters into the six different player rooms (the game can be played with 2 to 6 players)
Tumblr media
Player rooms! From the main lobby the player is sent to the right teleporter. The player is able to set their spawn and flip the lever to indicate they are ready. The top six chests are filled with the various classes; the bottom left chest has additional ammo, potions, etc to restock after playing. The right chests are where players can empty their inventory before choosing their class.
Tumblr media
Here is the first class, Recon! This class is intended to be used across long range and relies heavily on the drone and invisibility (my personal favourite too lol) it is quite weak to close range classes and will almost always lose encounters with the Spy. This class, along with Spy, is also the only one to have no healing items.
Tumblr media
The second class is the Fighter. This class has the highest defense and is intended primarily for close range combat, it also has a medium range attack with the yoyo. Because usage of the gravity potions are heavily encouraged this class needs to be careful with fall damage as it does not have a horseshoe like the Recon class.
Tumblr media
Mage is the third class! A class that is mostly focused on playing defensively. It is able to set physical barricades using the Ice Rod and is able to set damaging barricades using the Nimbus Rod. This class has its ups and downs against all the other classes and it not particularly weak or strong against any. Mage is able to block against close range using the Ice Rod and block lines of sight as well.
Tumblr media
The Ranger is the fourth class. It has moderately high defense and can do well long range and semi decently in medium range with the usage of Javelins and Beenades.
Tumblr media
The fifth class, the Spy, is one of the scarier classes in the lineup. This class actually needed to be modified due to how overpowered it was otherwise, it now has a Damaged Psycho Knife:
Tumblr media
This class relies heavily on close range, maneuverability, and the element of surprise. It has a decoy drone to use to cause dread in other players, making them think a Recon user may be nearby. This class has close range with the Psycho Knife and medium range using the Chain Knife, Throwing Knives, and Spike Balls.
Tumblr media
The sixth and final class, the Poisoner is a very involved class that requires constantly checking your inventory to make sure you are using the correct ammunition type. This class is good in both long and short range with it's two guns and whip. With the Djinn's Curse this class is immune to fall damage but is vulnerable while in the air. This class is able to apply status effects across a long range but due to the Ankh Charm it is protected from other Poisoner users.
And that is about all for now! There are probably some more things that slipped my mind to mention (because of course there would be lol) so if you are interested in anything at all about this please tell me, I would love to talk more about it!!
Thank you for taking the time to read through my nonsense hahaha.

Hey Genshin community, I want to hear from you!
I could use some help from the large community of Genshin. Im making a game series, and I really want to hear from you guys!
first and foremost, tell me about mechanics Genshin impact has that you like and dislike. I want to keep as many notes as possible as to things the players like.
I want to know how you guys would feel about a game with combat, open world and style similar to Genshin but it was rated mature. Of course with a way different story. I have at least 73 characters designed for this so far. Let me hear from you!
I’ve been working on this story since 2015. It’s a dream to make it a reality. If you want to hear more about it, please feel free to ask. It would make my day.

Don't know if Archipel has any official presence on Tumblr, but their video on Kenji Eno just dropped and it's a beautiful tribute to a fascinating creator. I recommend all the videos by this team, but this one is special.

Little Idle Animation
I did a bit of work on a walk cycle and an idle animation, both for a small game I’ve been trying to make gradual progress on.  The first, the walk cycle, was already sketched out. I just wanted to neaten it up and add color, which, although tedious, made it feel like it’s beginning to come together. While I was doing the lineart, I tried to correct inconsistencies. I wasn’t super thorough, but…

Character Creation
My first attempt at drawing a game character and doing pixel art from 64x64 to 2x2. My favorite character is 32x32 because it requires less details than what a 64x64 piece needs and provides the classic game style look but still carries the detail needed and allows more complex design than 16x16 would.

You know what I love?
Levels in video games that mess with the mechanics.
Like the level where you lose your camera in outlast? Stunning.
It can be anything from losing your weapons or powers to not being able to run, and will adore it, not only for how much fun it is, but also for the storytelling potential.
Just, forcing players to puzzle around problems in a new way is.. fantastic.

Inspiration
I've talked vaguely about what I want from my game, how I'm planning on making it an RPG with deckbuilding aspects in it. But damn if that is vague. So, I'm sharing a few of my inspirations and How I plan on implementing elements of them into may game.
The Legend of Zelda Series, Octopath Traveler, and Child of Light: These are probably the biggest three inspirations I have, with the Zelda series being my favorite game series of all time. As a series, all the Zelda games share an incredible message, that in times of darkness and despair, when all hope looks lost in the world, there is still kindness to be found and that hope that will rise up to vanquish the darkness, steeling the world for whatever might next be thrown its way. Its a theme that I love, and if I could incorporate even a fraction of the hope that the Zelda series gives me in anything that I were to create, I would find that project complete.
Octopath Traveler and Child of Light are the two series where I am trying to build my games combat to be like. Both games use a pseudo turn based system that designates which characters move before others, Child of Light has a timeline, where each character's speed represents how fast they move on across a line, and when they get to the end of the line, they take their turn. This is how I plan on implementing turns into my game, with abilities and effects that alter how fast a character moves on the timeline.
What I plan on taking inspiration from in Octopath Traveler, and actually a lot of other RPG titles such a Bravely Default, Xenoblade X and 3, Fire Emblem, and some Final Fantasy games and making a bit of a job system that lets the characters get access to different cards to add to their deck and skills they can activate. Plus, I've always loved the look of Octopath Traveler and and going to try and make something similar.
One thing that all three of these games share, is a large, explorable world that houses lore and secrets wherever one might look.
Below the read more are a few other games that I enjoy that inspire me to make this game.
The Mario and Luigi Series: The series is entertaining and exciting that give a spin on existing characters, and add new, standout characters to the cast of the Mario games, Fawful is one of my favorite Villains in all of gaming.
Persona 4: Golden: Probably my favorite JRPG period. its a game I can pick up and lose hours in with its compelling characters that drive the story forward, and each with their own side story you can experience.
Slay the Spire: This is the game where I found that a single-player game about building a deck of cards to fight enemies can have infinite possibilities and can actually be fun, and without it, I probably would have never started this project in the first place.
All the Card Games I've ever Played: From my first card game in Yu-Gi-Oh, to Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Hearthstone, 5 Minute Dungeon, Gwent, Legends of Runeterra, and all the games you can play with a standard deck of cards, I've enjoyed every moment I've had a card in my hand or on my screen.
