So. I started working on assets for a horror game for the NES. I'm going to post the asset pack on my itch.io at some point this, but for now here is a sneak peak of the art I've been working on. Heavily inspired by Vermis I, metroid, Cronenberg, HR giger, clowns? puppets? I have zero clue what gameplay would be like, maybe JRPG. possibly just a text game, probably some strange avant-garde mess that's hard to understand knowing me.

Hello!
Tumblr media
I'm Maddy! My pronouns are they/them. I'm a sound designer and TTRPG performer with a ridiculous number of podcast credits in various roles, both fiction and non-fiction.
You can find out all about the things I do at my Linktree, but here are some highlights.
I'm a cast member over at the actual play podcast Realms of Peril and Glory (@realmspod) where I am a player and GM across a bunch of incredible campaigns and one-shots!
As a freelancer I made/make a few podcasts under the name Snazzy Tapir Productions, including the actual play podcast A Game of One's Own, the Doctor Who podcast The Empty Children, and the audio drama The Prickwillow Papers. You can find out about my past podcast projects at my podcast studio website, snazzytapir.com.
You can often find me on TTRPG actual play streams like GirlsRunTheseWorlds and ActualPlayUK.
I'm also an occasional game designer, and you can find my TTRPGs Vampire Cowboys and I'm Not Lion over at my itch.io.

The April Animals Jam has begun! Rawrrrr
Tumblr media
Welcome to the 2nd monthly game jam that will be hosted on my itch.io page!
In this game jam, your objective is to create a game where animals are its main focus. What does that mean?
Well, you could create a game where the player plays as an anthropomorphic character, you could make it about helping the wilderness, or you could make it a rebellion story about animals rising up against polluters to fight for their land! It's up to you!
Your games can be tabletop games OR digital games. Anything that gets your mind in the realm of game design is all that matters to me!
IMPORTANT: Please only begin making a game when you hear of this game jam. No previously made games please! ANY GAMES THAT WERE MADE BEFORE THIS JAM WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
ALSO IMPORTANT: Under no circumstances are people who submit games with bigoted tones, ideologies, or dogwhistles allowed in this game jam. If your work is bigoted in any way, it can and will be rejected for submission. You have no place in my community, and please do not play my games at your tables. Also, please no NSFW submissions (you know what I mean by that).
(This is part of a game jam series where, every month, I will host a game jam focused on a theme that begins with the same letter as the month. Please feel free, even after the game jam ends, to make your game if you didn’t meet the deadline. I believe in you!)

PILLS of a BORED GAME DESIGNER #2:
Rich gold in his work on creativity said that when the artist finishes a painting they says "that's the perfect representation of my ideas". When the designer finishes their painting instead they turns around asking people "do you like it? do you? i can change it if you don't".
Now continuing the metaphor myself, the indie Game Designer finishes a painting, turns around and says to the people around: "hey do you know some 2D artist that can animate, do cartoonish sprite, and pixel art? Oh man this sucks". Don't be like the average Indie Game Designer.
>Love for rich gold ❤❤ (on his works obviously specify that there are many type of artists even some that do things for the pop culture and so on)

Is this thing on? Hello?
We’re back, blowing the dust off this old account since Twitter has become (more) of a trash fire. We’ll be putting all our episodes here, as we work on getting them onto YouTube.
In the meantime, enjoy the first episode of our current season.
Welcome to Season Six! Rai is retiring from permanent co-host duty so you're all stuck with me (Monica) and a rotating door of our friends. Fear not, Rai will still join us from time to time. And don't worry - we remain two queer people speaking with authority about games, and we absolutely will still swear (die mad about it). In today's episode D and Monica sit down to really get into the ins and outs of designing good resource management games. We talk about what you need to consider as a designer and break down how you can avoid common pitfalls. We also cite a handful of excellent games you can try that use their resources extremely well.
 In the Extended Cut:
Starting the work day, weird dreams, and a good sandwich
Behind the scenes of Scion 2e
The mysteries of PEMDAS
More fun rules from The Other Side

Mastering Isometric & Isomorphic Game Design: A Quickstart Guide to Unlocking 3D Potential in 2D Worlds
We say that: “oh I love that Baldur Gate, let’s crack out an isometric.” Or, “oh, digging this Final Fantasy Tactics stuff, let’s do that sideways angle thing.” But what does that mean? Let’s break it down mathematical. T:(X,∥⋅∥X)→(Y,∥⋅∥Y) is a isometric isomorphism if it is a linear isomorphism, and it is an isometry, that is ∥T(x)∥Y=∥x∥X∀x∈X; T:(X,∥⋅∥X)→(Y,∥⋅∥Y) is a topological…

A little sneak preview of the mission I’m working on for FIST.
The Melting of West Harrison takes place in an isolated, barricaded New England port town where enigmatic scientist Dr. Howard Powell has rearranged the atoms of its inhabitants. Despite the horrific incident the residents, freed from judgment, work and competition, blocked off the town and existed as though nothing had happened.  Powell, seeing this “leveling” of ego, class and race, decided the entire world would be better if it went through the same thing.
FIST scouts were sent to investigate and were welcomed by the people of West Harrison who can communicate telepathically, a side effect of what FIST calls “The Melting.” The agents were eventually convinced of Dr. Powell’s mission and agreed to being melted themselves. They have been assimilated into the West Harrison community. That was FIST’s last known contact with them.
It is to be assumed that the former FIST operatives have bought into Howard Powell’s vision. And that Powell is aware that more are probably coming. You are tasked with entering West Harrison, locating the scouts and stopping Howard Powell’s experiments by any means necessary.
Coming to itch.io soon!

This 2022 interview video goes into detail regarding various aspects of the development of Rampage arcade and Rampage World Tour along with other games Brian Colin designed. It's mostly old information, though there are some cool tidbits.
youtube
33:21 Apparently while developing the story for Rampage World Tour, Dr. Betty Veronica was intended to be Eustace DeMonic's daughter. Nothing in the game itself indicates any relationship besides her speaking on the phone with him at some points, indicated by the music from his cutscenes. She may even be speaking with him the whole time as opposed to anyone else in her phone cutscenes. That would certainly explain her authority telling either Eustace or some other employee to clean up a toxin due to its unknown effects (in reference to the V.E.R.N. mutation) and why she's being made privy to information about secret weapons as she's the CEO's daughter.
51:59 Rampage 3D: the unmade Rampage World Tour sequel concept. This one is interesting, though I feel like it would've been better as its own property. It's still more creative than simply adding new characters though, even if I do love all the various new characters that got added over the years.
54:27 Brian offered up story ideas for the Rampage movie, only to be turned down. Which sucks but not surprising.
55:22 Brian talks about filming his cameo, meeting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the set of the Rampage movie and going to the film's premiere, finding out his cameo was cut from the film and a mention of his interview in the DVD extras. Even if the cameo was cut, Brian was basically treated like royalty from the sound of it and that's saying something compared to how many other creators are treated when adaptations of their properties are made.
58:56 Brian's thoughts on how the film was faithful in spirit to his game stories. He makes a fair point, I'll admit.
59:26 Brian gushes about Dwayne being a Rampage fanboy. It's cute and I'm glad they got to meet.
