ROTTMNT Boys x GN! Leo-esque reader who enjoys drama, making jokes, and being overall awesome
Summary: The Hamato brothers unexpectedly fall for the smug, but genuine, fun-loving reader despite their egocentric habits Headcanons for: Donnie
GN! Reader; Romantic; Fluff || Words: 1.6k
Raph | Leo | Mikey | Bonus!!
Donnie:
Tumblr media
his first thoughts upon meeting y/n is that literally nothing could be worse. he could be boiling alive in one of meatsweat's fancy culinary stews and be less bothered by that than having to endure not one, but TWO LEOS
there goes the fleeting days of being able to complete his work in peace and quiet; o call back yesterday, bid time return
really tho, all his eye rolling and indifference is just an act that he refuses to let up on (he has a REPUTATION to uphold after all!!)
it doesn't take much time for donnie to warm up to y/n though; he's more or less used to his twin's antics and smug behavior and with y/n being almost exactly the same, it's like they've known each other their whole lives
he chalks it up to being comfortable with the familiar, but his brothers can definitely see it for what it is: a crush
he enjoys the competitive tension between y/n and him, it keeps him on his toes and gives him a boost when he feels out of it and needs the motivation
doesn't much care for the whole ego thing, but it doesn't bother him as bad as leo's does; at least y/n has good reason to be as cocky as they are. they're funny, they're charming, they're cool, they're incredibly perceptive
in fact, he's secretly made a list of all the good qualities y/n has and all the things he likes about them… it's like a whole 10 spreadsheets worth of data
to be fair, he does keep a similar list for his brothers and april, so it's not like he's stalking y/n or anything; it's just his way of "bonding" with his loved ones
but y/n's list is a lot longer than anyone else's; there's just so much to like about them. it only makes sense that their list of good traits happens to match up pretty well with his list of "things to look for in a potential mate" (a secret list that he will take to his grave)
whenever they go on missions, he makes sure to fit y/n in all his latest gear he's made them for their protection; they might talk big game, but donnie still has to take precautions!
he may or may not have taken y/n on a few purple dragon-related missions - AKA "let's go put whipped cream in all of their hard drives and cover their hideout in tinfoil wrapping just to fuck with them"; turns out that the police do not find it funny
"let me just say for the record that nothing's illegal unless it can be proven beyond reasonable doubt. and you can't prove that y/n and i were there so…"
y/n ain't no snitch, so don can trust them to keep their mouth shut if anyone ever gets suspicious of their misdeeds; this also makes them his go-to for some of the more emotionally heavier things that he can't talk to his brothers about
yeah, donnie's not great with emotions, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel them - he genuinely finds y/n to be a comforting presence, especially considering their amazing emotional perception and how well they can read him
he finds it much easier to work when y/n's hanging around the lab with him; they don't have to interact much, all it takes is a visit from y/n and he's hit with a burst of motivation
gets more work done with y/n around than he usually does and takes advantage of this productivity by making y/n stay with him for literal hours even if they don't actively take part in his work
he's even made them a little corner with all of their favorite things in the lab so they can keep busy while he works; they might be good for motivation and all, but he knows better than to leave y/n alone with one of his inventions considering their… impulsive behavior (rip stun-bo feature, we hardly knew ya)
"w-what, leaving? you can't leave yet! i've only just started on this upgraded micro-transmitter for the tank and i need your help! what do you mean you just sit there for hours doing nothing? that's entirely false, you are helping me out immensely! now sit right there and don't touch anything until i tell you to-"
their easy-going nature really complements his more rigid and particular personality; together, they are an unstoppable and wildly chaotic duo
he might be the funniest turtle of the group, but y/n has him in tears with their lame little jokes and one-liners; he mostly only laughs at the roasts and teases directed at his brothers though
overall, his brothers have an ongoing bet over how long it'll be before donnie finally realizes he has a MAJOR crush on y/n; leo has his bets on "not in my lifetime", april predicts it'll be sometime after casey jr's time, mikey's a little more generous and says "maybe in the next decade or two", and raph is just fed up with it and wants it over with NOW
Tumblr media
The buzzing and whirring of various tools occupied the otherwise silently uneventful lab as Donatello worked away on his latest project, completely absorbed in his work. Tucked away in the corner, sitting snug in the soft embrace of a plush beanbag, Y/N busied themselves with another round of Smash Bros on their purple (totally not Genius Built branded) Switch. Most days in the lab were spent in comfortable silence, as the purple coded brother did his best work when there were minimal distractions. But for Y/N, that meant keeping all audible cries of excitement or groans of defeat to a minimum while gaming. And sure, that was a reasonable request for a while, but had it really already been four hours?! As Y/N glanced down at their phone for the time, they let out a loud, heavy sigh as boredom overwhelmed their usually active mind.
"Don, how much longer do I gotta sit here? I'm practically dying of boredom. I'm terminal now. Terminal!" They slumped themselves back over the cushion, causing it to wheeze under the shifted weight.
"Just a few minor adjustments left and we'll be as good as gold." Donnie hadn't even looked up from the tester bot he was tinkering with, something which Y/N met with a frustrated scowl.
"And by a few, you mean…?"
"I still need to work on recalibrating the external displays to account for the large-"
"UUUGH, no, how long! I've been here so long that my leg's've atro- asta-… ASTROFIELD!"
Donnie could hardly contain the snort that sounded from under his welding mask.
"I think the term you're looking for is 'atrophied' and no, I seriously doubt that the mere act of sitting is enough to deteriorate muscle tissue."
"Whatever. I'm dying here and you wanna lecture me on-"
They were interrupted by the soft thudding of approaching footsteps, the unmistakable sound of Raph entering the lab.
"Heya, D. Y/N. Sorry to barge in on y'all, just wanted to check in and see if y'guys needed anything. It's been, uh… A while and it's gettin' dark so-"
"Raph, will you tell Dorkie here to quit holdin' me hostage and let me go? He's been keeping me prisoner here and I haven't even gotten my one phone call!" Y/N teased. Their moniker was successful in tearing Donnie's attention away from his desk across the room to shoot them a bitter glare.
"Heh, y'know Y/N, you could leave anytime you wanted, right? It's not like he's actually gonna trap you here. Er… Right?" Raphael's playful expression tinged itself with a hint of concern as he, for a moment, considered the possibility of a hostage negotiation with his little brother.
"Nah, I'm actually good here. I just want something more to DO when I'm here. I can't just be here for moral support, y'know." They stuck their tongue out at the softshell as they rolled themselves off the bag and plopped softly onto the tile floor.
The eldest mutant scratched at the back of his neck with a chuckle. Of course Donnie would tell them it's for 'moral support'.
"Uh, Y/N. You do know he only really keeps you in here because he's got a thing for you, right? That whole moral support thing's a load of crock."
It was at that moment that the ambient hum of tools stopped and tense silence flooded in its place. Y/N propped themselves up on elbows and craned their neck towards Donatello who sat faced away from them with tense shoulders bunched up.
Sensing the awkward situation he'd now put them in, Raph let out a small hiss of regret between his teeth and slowly shuffled his feet back towards the door.
"Riiight… So, you guys good? Yeah? Yeah. I'm gonna just-"
And with that, he practically bolted for the door, leaving Y/N and Donnie to stew in the thick air of their own embarrassment.
"D-Donnie…" Y/N could barely squeak, their eyes fixed to the empty doorway as if they were pleading for Raph to come back and take the awkward with him.
Donnie took in a sharp breath and in one swift motion, pushed his work chair back and spun to face his companion with only his iron-will keeping him from running out of the lab himself.
"I-" He started, his face dark red and his lip quivering with anxiety as his mind parsed through the many scenarios in which this sort of confession could've gone.
"I knew it couldn't have been just for my good looks." Y/N's smug grin and flirtatious wink did little to alleviate the mutant's humiliation.
"Huh?"
"For the record…" Scooting up to Donnie's hunched form, Y/N gently took his hands into theirs and kept their gaze locked to the floor as the faintest blush dusted their cheeks, "I have a thing for you too."
Out of every scenario he'd managed to file through, this one was one outcome he didn't anticipate. But one he would happily accept.

“Celebration.”
So’lek x Na’vi!reader
No use of Y/n. Read in the second person. Gender neutral reader
Tumblr media
Tonight was the night all of the na’vi celebrated, it was the end of the great hunt. Hunters had gathered bountiful game, everyone had been busy, and successful. this would be the first time you were participating in such a celebration. The Hunt Festival. Teylan looked nervous, fidgeting with his walkie talkie and his gaze flitting around. You sighed softly, a fond smile crossing over your lips as you rested a hand on his arm “There’s nothing to be nervous about, Teylan. It’s like…” you trailed off trying to find a comparison to the celebration. “Like those parties that some of the humans spoke about on earth. Remember it’s just for fun. You don’t need to worry about it too much.”
Teylan’s eyes shifted towards you and gave a lopsided grin, although it was clear he didn’t believe you “I know. What if they don’t like us? We’re different.. we don’t know how to do these kinds of things.” You shook your head and gently squeezed him “we will learn. You’re good at learning Teylan, you’ll pick it up in no time. Nefika will surely tell you whatever you need to know.” You shared a soft smile with him, and he bowed his head in thanks before leaving, Ri’nela calling for him.
Later, So’lek had approached you. It was a little while until the actual festivities, though you had expected him to leave already. You gave him a confused look as he stood in front of you. He cleared his throat, “have you learned how to do body paint by yourself?” You’d been wearing it more often, on your hunts, or whenever you were somewhere other than HQ, though you usually asked help from one of the na’vi close by. You shook your head slightly, “not really. I’m trying though.” You told him, resting your hand on your hip. He hummed softly, a sound of disappointment or acknowledgement, you couldn’t tell. You could never really tell with So’lek, with his slightly monotone voice and micro expressions. You were learning how to read him, but he proved more difficult than the others.
“I’ll help you, then. Come.” He said finally, motioning you to follow him as he disappeared around a corner. You couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle, jogging slightly to catch up with him. He lead you down the many twists and turns of headquarters before stopping in his own little quarters. He usually stayed in camps just outside of base, however he did have his own area here just as many of the others did. You hesitantly followed him inside, the door softly shhking closed behind you. You looked around, finding small wooden bowls of body paint on the ground, along with some of his own hunting gear and gun ammunition. He guided you to stand in the middle of the room, and you held your hands awkwardly behind you.
“If you do mine,” you started as he picked up a bowl of paint after considering the color. “Will you let me do yours?” You asked as a joke, at first, however he rose a shoulder in a half shrug before nodding “I cannot see why not. Stand still, I do not want to mess up. Paint is very hard to fix.” He said, a soft smile etched on his lips before he dipped his fingers into the paint. So’lek went to press his fingers to your skin, but hesitated, golden eyes flicking to yours. “It’ll be cold.” He warned you. You nodded slightly and braced yourself, trying to ignore the way your heart pounded in your chest at acknowledging how close he would actually be once he started to help you with your body paint.
So’lek finally pressed his colored fingers against your arm, and though he had warned you, you still felt a shiver run through your body from the coldness of the paint. You had to find something to keep your eyes on, so first you looked at the paint he carefully dragged down your blue skin. You recognized the color and smiled “It reminds me of my ikrans color.” He nodded slightly, and you noticed the gentle smile growing on his lips “that is what I was going for.” Your brows furrowed in slight surprise as you replied “you remember the color of my Ikran?” He glanced up at you as if the question was strange, like anyone would remember the specific color of an Ikran. “I do. She is breathtaking, as is her rider. when we fly through the winds together I cannot help but stare.” Your cheeks heat. You knew he was always blunt with compliments, upfront, because he believed it was better to say what you mean than tip-toe around it. It always caught you off guard. You mumbled a semblance of a thank you, and he just chuckled in response.
His touches continued, careful and confident. Swift strokes, the colored paint decorating your skin beautifully. He was mimicking your ikrans pattern, almost perfectly. It was astonishing, to say the least. So’lek had done both of your arms all the way up to your shoulders, and then shifted to your chest. He carefully brushed bits of your hair out of the way and continued his work of art, his thumb tracing over the shape of your collar bone, and almost lingering. His gentle, brief touches became longer, his brows furrowed in focus, his tail flicking behind him as it usually did when he www trying to perfect something. You tried your hardest not to move, your eyes settling on his face. It was nice to look at, he had sharp features, and soft eyes. Many people assumed he was hard to talk to, however you spoke with him just fine. Perhaps they were the ones hard to talk to.
He did this with every paint he added, long bold stripes of paint, whirling around you. Your heart especially raced when he had trailed down your sides and decorated your waist with such concentration. And you studied him the whole time. The way his eyes narrowed, his ears twitched when he was trying not to mess up. The way his lids would fall slightly as he let himself linger somewhere, his breath even and slow, as if he were counting them out every time. When he did your face, he leaned in slightly, dragging his fingers across your forehead, along your cheeks, down your lips and chin. Perhaps he didn’t mean to, but he paused, slowing as he trailed the multi colored paint down your soft lips. You swore he even stared. Once he was done, he backed away to admire the masterpiece he had just finished.
“My turn.” You mused, to which he smiled softly and nodded “indeed it is. Don’t do too bad now.” He teased you, wiping the paint off of his hands onto a towel and tossing it to the floor before you had started to paint him. You decided to do the same for him, the pattern of his Ikran, and tried to implement colors you thought matched his personality. It was silly but it was nice, to think about something like that. You traced your fingers over his arms, the dips of his shoulders, along his chest. You had painted every where he had on you, however your strokes were less confident. He had watched you the entire time, eyes half lidded as he looked down at you. You swore his lips quirked in amusement, but gone too fast for another look. Down his neck, along the notch between his collar bone. Along his eyebrows, down his nose, cheeks. Finally your thumbs rested against his lips, warm, and as soft as you had imagined them to be. He looked at you, pupils dilating slowly, lips parting. You chuckled softly, pausing just as he did before dragging them down, and finally finally finishing. He grinned, looking enchanted before giving a soft thank you.
He had walked with you to the feast. He sat with you in a less crowded area, but that didn’t stop the others from approaching you. A na’vi smiled and offered their hand towards the two of you, “come dance! Come!” They urged. You smiled and looked at So’lek, who seemed indifferent to the na’vis offer. You gently tugged him up by his wrist as you stood, “Come dance with me so’lek. It’s my first festival.” You grinned, and you saw amusement creep over his expression. He nodded, allowing you to pull him into the dancing circle around the fire. Many na’vi had costumes, dressed as animals and they were beautiful.
You didn’t know the dances for this night but you followed your heart and that seemed to work out just fine. The night was filled with glee and laughter filled the night air, you swore the songs could have been heard miles out from the home tree. So’lek danced with you, at first he didn’t try, however upon seeing the pure joy on your face he had finally allowed himself to enjoy the night. With you. He reached out, his hand finding yours and you held onto them tightly, your eyes twinkling in the firelight as you looked at him. Your smile was so wide, So’lek thought your face would split at any moment. You would admit, your cheeks hurt, but it was a good kind of hurt. Smiling too hard and wide was going to make your face sore through tomorrow, but it would be worth it. In fact, it crossed your mind that your entire body would be sore by the end of the celebrations, because all you wanted to do was dance, but you didn’t mind. You would, in the morning, but again, it was worth it all the same. “You are a wonderful dancer!” So’lek shouted over the music, a laugh caught within his words as you spun together, hand in hand. You could barely hear him over all of the noise. you laughed with him and nodded “So are you! The mighty warrior, who knew he could dance?” You teased, to which he rolled his eyes. You would continue to giggle and joke around the fire, for quite some time.
As the energy calmed, his hand had found itself against your lower back as you finally listened to your aching limbs and walked with him to your seats once more. At first it had hovered, and then when you had to get through the crowd, it first pressed against your back, and then he tightly held onto your hip as if to not loose you in all of the commotion. You collapsed onto the pillows in your little nook, and he smiled fondly, settling down beside you and leaning back against his arms. “What do you think?” He asked. Uou were silent for a moment, closing your eyes and catching your breath. Even with your eyes closed you could feel his eyes on you, always watching. He always did that.
“This is the most fun I’ve had in a very long time. Nothing compares to this.” You told him finally, your eyes fluttering open as you looked at him. You finally saw the look on his face. It was a mix of fondness and adoration, his eyes twinkling with that sort of light you only saw in someone’s who loved someone, very much. “Is it?” He asked, wanting you to talk more. He wouldn’t say it aloud but great mother did he love the sound of your voice. It didn’t matter what you were feeling, happy, frustrated, if you were talking softly or letting all of the excitement out in fast loud words, he loved it all. You nodded, listening to the thumping of your heart against your ribs. “I think it’s even more so, because of the company.” You looked at each other for a while as you said that, in silence. His lips quirked up, his eyes softened.
And his hand had slowly intertwined with yours. “I am honored you think so.” He said, and you shifted closer. You briefly pressed your forehead against his, something the both of you have started doing as an expression of affection. He wasn’t as fond as affection as you were, but he would allow you this. And, as you pulled away, he pressed a kiss against your hand, smudging the paint there onto his lips, mixing with the white and dark blues already there. You giggled softly, “you messed your paint up.” You told him, reaching out and ghosting your thumb over his lips.
They parted, and you felt his soft breath against your skin. “Ah..” he hummed softly, not trying to pretend like he cared. “what a shame.” He muttered, glancing over at the crowd that was dispersing to their own quiet areas, and then returned to your eyes, which put him under a spell every time he looked into them. He slowly leaned in, eyes flitting towards your own paint-covered lips. You found yourself leaning in as well, meeting him half way. The kiss was firm, and yet gentle at the same time. The hand that wasn’t holding onto yours rested against your side, mixing your paints even more. When he leaned away, he looked more than pleased as he said “look at that. we match now.”
You rolled your eyes, grinning at what a fool he was, before pressing a sweet brief kiss to the flat of his nose. “I suppose we do.”

Two player world building games?
THEME: Two-Player Worldbuilders
Hello there! Almost everything I found for this request required a deck of cards of some kind, so I hope you like card games!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Strata, by Vincenzo Ferriero.
A Mythopoeia Micro-RPG
Welcome fine archaeologist to your new digging ground! Strata is a tabletop role-playing game where you dig to uncover the history hidden under the many layers of rock that have formed over the millennia. Hope you brought along your Equipment!
A fairly simple one-page game, Strata mostly consists of rolling for random discoveries as you dig through each layer of rock. You’re also responsible for naming each age, usually after something you discover there. While this game looks like it could be played solo, with two people you’d be able to bounce ideas off of each-other as to what each discovery means about the age you’re digging through.
HOME, by Deep Dark Games.
HOME is a roleplaying and mapmaking game for 1 to 4 players.
You are a Mech pilot who must protect their home from Kaiju. Explore and map an alien realm as you search for the source of the Kaiju. Prepare for battle by gearing up, building bases, and uniting the world against the terrifying monster. And when the moment of truth arrives, clash against increasingly dangerous Kaiju that will destroy your home if you fail.
Important relationships keep you going in your darkest hour, veteran pilots make sacrifices for the greater good, and you must decide whether to protect important military locations or cherished cities.
This game is much more focused on action, moving your characters through a battlefield using d6’s to determine what boons and banes will help or hinder you in your battle across an alien space. While you’re going to be spending a considerable amount of time in battle, the game’s map is meant to be added to and elaborated upon as you play.
The link above is for the Kickstarter page, but the Quickstart is available now on Itch if you’re interested.
The Whimsy Collectors, by Stori_Lundi.
The Whimsy Collectors is a cooperative game for two people about exploring a fantastical universe together, finding unique items, and selling them to their special customers. You'll need a tarot deck, 2 tokens, and 2d6.
Using a tarot deck, this game uses the cards as locations where your characters can search for items and add them to their bag. You’ll also use the cards to represent customers and their wants; but be careful, your characters can only carry so much. As a result you’ll have to manage your resources carefully. You’ll tally up points according to how well your finds are suited to your customers.
The game comes with a chart to help you determine what members of the Major Arcana are like as customers, as well as a worksheet where you can record what you find where. The game also comes with two pre-generated characters with special abilities, which you can use to move strategically across the map. If you like a game that the two of you can huddle over while drawing cards, this might be your game.
This Old House, by CarrionComfort.
This Old House is a GMless game for 1 to 4 players that uses the act of building a House of Cards to tell the story of just that, a house. You will use a standard deck of playing cards, a 4-sided die, and prompts to tell the story of a home, the family and things that inhabit it, and the land it sits on.
These stories will be crafted by you, even with some friends, as a way for you to create land, give it life, and then tell the full history of a single home. From the first piece of lumber laid, through its first family celebrating new life, mourning death, and dealing with heartbreak. Then that story ends with the house being consumed by fire, lost in foreclosure, or just left vacant depending on whether the House of Cards tumbles or if a Joker is pulled.
This game looks like a good option for games that zoom in on the personal and intimate. You will focus on a house throughout its life, using playing cards as a construction material as well as a game oracle. If you want a game with an unexpected ending, this might be the game for you.
The Ground Itself, by Everest Pipkin.
The Ground Itself is a one-session storytelling game for 2-5 players, played with household materials (a coin, a six-sided die, and a deck of cards).
Focusing on place- one specific place, chosen by the group - The Ground Itself unfolds over radically disparate time periods that may range from 4 days to 18,000 years. By casting wildly into time, it considers how places both change and remember themselves. Fundamentally, The Ground Itself is about the echoes and traces we leave for others after we are gone.
This game is a reflection on a place that 2 or more people create together, using playing cards to generate questions about the location. Time may pass by as days, years, or even millennia. Players can choose when to zoom in onto what the game describes as a “focused situation”, allowing them to add an omen, a party, or some other narrative element to the story.
The game is meant to be played in a single session, so at the end you should find yourself with a location that bears the meaning of a number of events. The designer has also added a number of ways to change the game, such as using tarot cards instead of playing cards, playing places that have no inhabitants, or changing how much time passes in between each round of play.
A Traveller in the City, by Palleon Press.
A Traveller in the City is a collaborative map-drawing game in which you (& any friends you bring along) visit a CITY from your own imagination, drawing it out step-by-step! All you need is a deck of standard playing cards, a single six-sided die, & some stuff to draw with.
Work together to guide the solitary TRAVELLER thru their stroll. Picture the sights they see, the people they meet. Gradually, sketch a map– not of the place itself, but of your own memory of it. For you are not its creator, nor any kind of expert. You are a visitor. How well will you know this place, when it’s already time to leave?
This is based on the Carta system, which involves using a series of cards to represent a map that your character will explore. In this game, both players will control the same traveller, and draw on a grid to represent what this traveller discovers while exploring the city.
The game itself is rather small, and can be printed as a pocket zine for easy of transport - great for just carrying in a pocket for a spur-of-the-moment game.
Aurora, by World Champ Game Co.
Aurora is a tabletop roleplaying game for 2-6 players. This game is deliberately designed to be played comfortably while practicing social distancing or together around a communal table when the necessity for distancing has ceased. Aurora uses 3 phases or modes of play, each of which can be used or removed from the entirety of the game, depending on how the group wants to play. In the first phase, players mail blank cards to another, which will be turned into a custom deck using the zip codes and other numbers. I can see using 5d10 as another way to generate random numbers to help create your custom cards.
In the second phase, city creation begins. Regardless of the setting you decide to create, the city is going to be torn between a Darkness and a Light. Your cards will help determine both of these, as well as the map of the city and the people who live there. If you don’t use the first phase, a deck of tarot cards might work as a good substitute for the oracle.
The final phase uses the map and the cards to generate a story inside the city that you’ve just created. Each player may be responsible for their own character, or they might take ownership of a faction or a number of characters - which might be a good option if there’s just two of you.
If what you want is a lot of room for creativity, this might be for you.

Hurricanes’ Seth Jarvis leans into status as an honorary Harvard grad
By: Luke Decock, April 24, 2024
When Tripp Tracy was asked to speak at a meeting of the Harvard Club of the Research Triangle last week, he naturally invited the Carolina Hurricanes’ two other Harvard Men to join him. Jack Drury, owner of a Harvard diploma, class of 2023. Seth Jarvis, owner of a “Harvard Alumni” T-shirt, class of not quite veritas.
Neither Drury nor Jarvis could attend because of the team’s pre-playoff dinner gathering, but Jarvis was nevertheless welcome despite his self-proclaimed “Grade 6” education, because if there’s one thing that’s true about the Hurricanes’ third-year forward above all else, it’s that if you try to make him the butt of a joke, even a heartfelt, good-natured one, he’ll find a way to turn it back around on you.
When Drury returned from his Cambridge graduation last summer with the crimson T-shirt as a gift for Jarvis, he never expected Jarvis to cut off the sleeves.
He never expected Jarvis to make it his undershirt and wear it under his shoulder pads every single day of the season. For every practice. Every game. Every postgame interview.
“I thought, there’s no better way to put it to use than cut it into a tank top and wear it under my gear,” Jarvis said.
Seth Jarvis. Harvard alum. The shirt says so.
“There have been a few people who have seriously asked me if I went to Harvard,” Jarvis said, “and they’ve obviously never had a conversation with me.”
The Hurricanes have always had a strong connection to Harvard, through Tracy and his youth teammate and future front-office executive Jason Karmanos, through players like Craig MacDonald and Craig Adams.
They’ve had players from the rest of the hockey-playing Ivy League schools as well, other than Brown: Jeff Hamilton (Yale), Kevin Westgarth (Princeton), Lee Stempniak (Dartmouth), Riley Nash (Cornell). Now Drury. And, apparently, Jarvis.
“I think it’s been awesome,” Tracy said. “I would have liked to have had him on the roster.”
Even within the hockey world, it’s hard to imagine two teammates as different as the goofy Manitoban and the cosmopolitan Harvard grad becoming so close. Jarvis left home at 14 to play junior hockey in the Western Hockey League and was in the NHL by age 18.
Drury, scion of a prominent hockey family, spent two years at Harvard and another year overseas in Sweden; even though Drury is two years older than Jarvis, Jarvis has played more than 100 more NHL games than Drury.
The two are akin to brothers as much as they are friends or teammates, so when Drury gave Jarvis the shirt, it was with the best of intentions. Still, give Jarvis an inch or two, he’ll take all 200 feet, same in the dressing room as on the rink.
“I got it for him hoping he would wear it,” Drury said. “Using it as the undershirt, I love that. I didn’t know he’d do that. Once he started to do it, I thought it was awesome. He’s a character. But you couldn’t have a better guy around the room.”
Every single day, the shirt goes into his laundry bag to be laundered with the rest of the team’s base layers, an old-school throwback amid the sweat-wicking, high-tech gear.
By now, seven months into the season, as the Hurricanes head north for Thursday’s Game 3 against the New York Islanders with a 2-0 lead in their first-round series, the T-shirt should probably be in tatters. It looks just fine. Other than the missing sleeves.
“It’s hung on,” Jarvis said. “It’s high quality. Only the best at Harvard.”
At the end of the regular season, when Jarvis sat in on the Bally Sports broadcast with Tracy and Mike Mansicalco while sitting out Game 82, he told Tracy he would have liked to major in “micro-macro engineering” at Harvard, which sounds like a typical Jarvis malaprop, mishmashing economics and engineering. But it also could very well be somebody’s bespoke “special concentration” in Harvard’s engineering school, studying “theories of engineering principles” or the “interactions between microscopic innovation and large system models.”
Jarvis, with his elite hockey IQ and even quicker wit, may be more evidence that you don’t have to be book smart to be smart. He plays up the dopey-goofball angle because it gets laughs — “There’s still a lot of stupidity going on throughout my day,” Jarvis said — and won the Josef Vasicek Award this season for his quotability, but he’s the son of two educators, and there’s a spark that animates both his personality and his game, burning bright under all the self-deprecating humor.
“He plays a little dumb, but he’s pretty smart actually,” Martin Necas said. “I’m positive. He’s pretty smart. He just makes himself look like it on purpose, sometimes.”
Watching his game grow over the past two seasons, as he spent last year becoming a two-way player and this season reaping the rewards, it’s fair to wonder what would happen if he applied himself in the classroom as he has to his hockey career. Who knows what might be possible.
“It’s never too late,” Drury said. “He plays it up a little bit but he’s smarter than people realize. He’s got a good head on his shoulders.”
And the T-shirt over his shoulders to sort-of prove it.

Hawks Headcanons
Because I hyperfixate, and write, I have compiled a list of what Keigo/Hawks is like in my head. This is so I can reference it back and not keep changing things in the stories. I like consistency.
Tumblr media
So, here we go, the list of head canons that I have for my beloved boy.
General
Yes, he has flown into a window. No he will not admit it.
Hawks can’t cook. He is used to microwave meals and quick meals like eggs, pancakes, bacon, ramen, spaghetti, and the like. Hence his love for chicken.
He has collapsed into bed without removing his gear more times than he would care to admit.
He is a bookworm. He loves to read. It’s one of his escapes.
His preferred genre is adventure, action, fantasy. Picture lotr, or noble knights doing good for their kingdom.
He likes to game. I would think Assassins creed, Witcher, LoZ, maybe even pokemon. He's not a hard-core gamer, but he dabbles in it.
He will zone out in a warm shower.
He loves sitting up high and looking at the stars and sky. His favorite place is the Kyushu tower.
He loves peace and quiet. It helps to calm his mind and allows him to think without outside stimuli.
His favorite pastime is allowing his mind to wander.
If he finds anything interesting or that he likes, he will research it to death.
He has RAD, depression, ADHD, hypervigilance, and hyper independence. Most of these are due to the upbringing of the commission. He also has abandonment issues. He hates leaving anything unfinished.
He DOES NOT trust people; this is due to the Commission. He always believes people are two faced. Even if people believe they are close to him, they really aren’t.
He has many layers to him. He is very complex. Most of the layers are barriers meant to keep people out and away.
He is insanely smart, despite acting oblivious.
He catches on quickly. Quick learner.
He has standards and morals, despite being morally grey.
Despite having rigorous training to control his features when emotions hit, some do slip. These micro-movements are specifically his wings and feathers. Puffing up, roosting, sharpening. These will give away his thoughts and feelings while his face is neutral. Only those close to him really notice it.
He has a mouth, and he uses it. It gets him into trouble. His wings and feathers usually get him out of it.
He will shut down and recharge after strenuous missions. This is the time when he likes to be alone and decompress, mostly sleep.
He has a soft spot for animals. He likes cats and dogs. He would love to have one day, but with his changing schedule, it would be hard to keep them. So, he sticks to the strays and the neighbors’ pets.
He would rather deal with kids than adults. Kids are much easier to deal with and honest vs adults who are shady and two-faced.
Despite being a ray of happy sunshine in public, Hawks is actually fairly quiet.
Hawks gets even quieter when tired. And it is noticeable. He doesn’t want to use the energy he has left. He also doesn’t want to say anything he would regret later. His filter is usually less during this time and he may say something that would sound mean when in reality it isn’t.
Despite being fast and quick, he is relatively patient. He doesn’t mind waiting, as long as it is for something he likes.
While praise is nice, from outsiders, it isn’t rewarding. But from someone he knows is genuine, then that is something.
Telling him thank you always makes him smile. Gratitude goes a long way with him.
He has Endeavor merch, but not as much as you think. A couple of t-shirts, a poster, and signed photo, plus a figure or two. But not a whole wall or closet filled.
Hawks is the kind of guy who is self-conscious about his wings. It has always been about his wings and what he can do, never him. He doesn’t like it when people see him and his wings or as his wings. He would rather have someone who can separate the two, and just see him as a human rather than his wings.
He sometimes uses his wings to his advantage and tries to make his personal bubble a little bigger.
His earrings are a sign of rebellion against the commission. Basically, saying you can’t control me or my body to them by doing it.
He would duck out of a massive party any chance he got. Whether it would be saying his partner was tired or phone call or whatever. He gets slightly overstimulated in large crowds, on the count of his wings picking up vibrations constantly, along with his wings also being big and not the best at keeping himself small and unnoticed.
Tumblr media
Now for the fun random bits!
Hygiene
He smells like Marble. Beneath ozone and coffee.
He uses 3 in 1 body and shampoo when in a rush. But on days off he actually uses different soap and shampoo.
When in a hurry, he will usually shed his feathers so he can dry faster.
Hairbrush? What's that? He rarely styles his hair or brushes it. Usually one or two swipes with his hand and he's good.
Mint or spearmint toothpaste.
Quick rinse with mouthwash.
Food
He has a sweet tooth. He LOVES sweet coffee.
His go to is always chicken.
He is more of a savory kind of person.
He is a glutton when it comes to the food he loves.
Alcohol
He isn't an alcoholic. He drinks socially. He may have a beer or ale or cider every now and then, but he really doesn't drink. At parties he will have a wine or champagne. If it is a fancier party then a scotch, bourbon, or whiskey. Sometimes he will have a shot of sake.
Work and workplace
He is the kind of guy to give his employees merch as gifts. He will if he really doesn’t know what to get them.
He usually pawns new merch to try on his employees for feedback.
He does get to know his employees.
Sleep
He sleeps on his stomach or side. It is hard to sleep on his back with his wings, but he does sometimes. It is just uncomfortable. And gets wing cramps when he falls asleep with his wings bunched up.
He will sometimes shed most if not all of his feathers to sleep on his back.
His bedding is soft and fluffy. He has multiple pillows. He loves snuggling under his covers and duvet cover.
He is a pillow hugger. He loves his body pillows.
He sleeps in a loose t-shirt and boxers. Usually. He will sometimes go for sweatpants and a long sleeve shirt when it gets colder.
He is a furnace. He radiates heat.
Tumblr media
I have more. Let me know if anyone would like the other lists.
This guy lives in my mind rent free... I do have a love/hate relationship with him.

LobCorp Recommended Mod Guide (One-step install modpacks now linked below 1 for QoL but close to vanilla, and one to smooth over the progression curve/reduce grind)
As someone who played LobCorp vanilla (and strongly adovcate aganist it unmodded even for the theme of the story) these are my mod recommendations. I don't have the time to actually test these but these are what I think would help a lot of people play this game.
Basemod is a mod management platform that allows LobCorp to be modded - and because the game has a lot of jank that don't really speak to the game's actual difficulty curve a lot of it is worth modding out or adjusting even if you don't want to reduce the difficulty bad QoL is not an actual difficulty curve so some of the time you spend in this game is a result of jank and not actual mechanical depth or challenges. More below.
Original Basemod 5.1.1 guide (explains in simple terms how to install it in 2nd paragraph, unlinked mods are in here. This is the most popular mod guide afaik). A lot of the mods are translated/adapted from the forum DC Inside from the original BM creator abcdcode. Basemod 5.2 (unofficial) guide (maybe check this if some older ver. mods don't work) NexusMods (for most English mods that might help).
Make the game playable [QOL Focused, does not actually functionally change anything about the game's actual mechanics] (the game will still be hard as nails but without the jank that should be in the game):
Infinite Rerolls (95% of lategame difficulty is being trolled by RNG, if you don't want to use this mod, you can hit "return to menu" in the vanilla game to retry from last day without repo rewinding). [Checked]
Employee Group Select (the base game makes it really hard to micro departments unless you really like RTS) [Broken For Me]
Detailed Work-Related Stats (see discrete success chances as opposed to vague wording). [Checked]
Work Macro (holding Shift Auto-repeats work, great for mindlessly farming when all ordeals for a day are over). [Checked]
Agent List (Hitting TAB shows department select as opposed to an ordeal being required to do this). [Checked]
Shield Health Viewer (Shields actually show how much mitigation is remaining, notably absent from vanilla). [Checked]
Agent Recustomization (no longer costs 1 LOB to make your OCs or friends). [OLD] Have not found a working version.
Make the game approachable for all to enjoy [Removing constraints but still keeping MOST difficulty in but respecting your time because the game is absurdly grindy]:
Full-Time Employees (Your units remain if you go back to day 1) <== super good if you dont want to re-grind units every time you rewind. This means yo uwon't have to go through the bs of re-farming stats and can focus solely on gear-farm & doing the story while optimizing your Abno picks with infinite rerolls). [checked]
Overtime Pay (stat-grinding now gives extra points) [checked]
Instant Stat Gains (don't have to end a day to get rewarded with stat increases) [arguably a QoL mod too not gamebreaking]
Rewarding Ordeals (boosted EGO gift odds and stat growths after ordeals killed) [untested]
Extra Justice Attribute (justice now scales DPS) [works somewhat]
Increase Max EGO to 5 (reduces the re-roll grinding substantially) [Checked]
Speedup (increase game speed to 5 if you want) [OLD]
Suppress Leveling (suppressions actually give XP for combat). [Unsure but it seems to work for me]
Sticky Agents (agents no longer wander back & forth, caution this may make certain animation dodges very precise but will more often than not be helpful if you hate the wandering idle anims). [Checked]
Better Central Command Architecture (this department just has a bad layout imo) [Checked]
Flatten the curve to make the game reasonable [I just want to read the cutscenes but still play the game]:
Unsure if Super Agents works because it is old but if it does you will basically be invulnerable to ordeals/suppressions [OLD, replies seem to suggest it doesn't work but worth a try].
"Casual Mode Mod", a 2023 mod that makes daily energy lower and substantially reduces meltdowns to cut down the time of the grind. +100% exp rate, and LOB rewards increase. This mod alone doesn't make the game free but it cuts down the bizarrely high time requirement to play LobCorp which is one of the most substantial barriers to entry. (I'm about to beat it at around 150h). Combine this with the red and green mods and you'll basically have a great time.
Guaranteed Gifts (abno gifts will 100% trigger)
Overlapping Gifts (gifts no longer are 1 per slot)
There are mods to boost stats and EGOs, I suggest you find working ones on Reddit or NM.
I recommend looking around on Nexus Mods or even on reddit for other useful mod recommendations, but be careful, some mods will spoil you. The ones I suggested and recommended here do not contain any - but some on Nexus Mods definitely will.
If any mods don't work please check the Nexus Mods link for any similar mods that are from 2020, the 2019 ones seem to not be working as consistently or at all.
I can't attest that all the mods listed play nicely with each other but please give them a try if you find the base game too daunting, trust me, I went through the grinder and vanilla is fundamentally missing the green mods I listed here at the very least. The ones in the 1st document indicate which Basemod versions and above it will work with so if you have compatibility troubles just use the google doc that is first.
STEAM VISUAL GUIDE FOR MOD INSTALLATION:
The TL;DR for installing Basemod into the "Basemods" folder is that you need to make sure every mod has its own dedicated folder if the download itself doesn't come with one. This is an example layout where none of the mods have files outside of the folders they have dedicated to them. If they don't have an included folder, just name it after whatever the dll file is so you can tell what's in there. It will work nonetheless.
Tumblr media
I have added the tag #lobcorpguide to make this post easier to find if it updates since tumblr hates proper-clickthroughs now. So you can find the updated details.
One-click installations (drag the files to the steam installation location and drop the minside the folder called LobotomyCorp_Data).
QoL only & Progression focused. Let me know if it works! The guide/readme file is in the "Basemods" with an s folder along with each mod. I explain what each does, and you can delete or add more at your leisure to that folder, just make sure it has a dedicated folder for each specific mod.

i've noticed an increasing trend in game names that are like
TITLE OF GAME: ENTIRE OTHER SEPARATE TITLE OF GAME
and it's kinda fascinating to see! i'm a little obsessed with naming trends, names themselves, and their natures, being a subject of endless personal fascination; for most of my entire life, works of media in the US were typically given just a single TITLE. if you make a sequel, that's TITLE 2. if you make a spinoff? sometimes it's a different TITLE, but sometimes it's TITLE: SUBTITLE.
except now we have tons of games in the public space that are called TITLE: SUBTITLE as singular works!
Tumblr media
the evolution of the SUBTITLE component of these names is so interesting. usually it was something descriptive that hinted the work was derivative (The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall; Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts; Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty; etc.), but the SUBTITLE's role is changing.
here's a fun trend: games with simplistic (possibly difficult to trademark) names, with a tacked-on subtitle whose job it is to better illustrate the primary title
Tumblr media Tumblr media
is "smalland" the actual name of the game, or do we say "smalland: survive the wilds" every time in accordance with the 2005 Pimp Named Slickback ruling? do you say "divinity original sin" as a singular noun or are you meant to inject a little micro-pause where the colon should be?
better yet though, what if the SUBTITLE didn't have to clarify the TITLE? what if it could just be a whole-ass other name for the game?
Tumblr media
i totally get why you can't just name your game "metal," that isn't what makes this game name so deliciously weird. the name's components are clearly related, but they seem to point to different spheres of information.
what is this game actually called? do you just call it "metal hellsinger"?
is "metal" meant to hint at the musical lexicon and the game is just "hellsinger"?
is the main character the hellsinger and is she herself implied to hellsing?
does "metal:" imply that this is a singular title in the Metal series?
what if they make a sequel with an EDM or a rap soundtrack? do we get "Drill: Barspitter"? actually i'd play the shit out of that.
btw you should try this game, it fucking rips and it's on sale for like USD$12 right now
Tumblr media
by this point i think i got across what i was going for, so now we're just taking a tour. this one's fun because both of these are pretty good names for games, but they couldn't seem to settle on one so they just took both. i respect it!
Tumblr media
bleak faith is a game of putting on airs; it wears the trappings of a soulsborne but like most derivative soulsbornes, it assigns its own rules to combat, character building, etc.
it also wears the trappings of my favorite TITLE: SECOND TITLE naming convention, but decides to toss the rules out the fucking window. there is no other Bleak Faith game, so this isn't simply the "Forsaken" offering of that series. and "Forsaken" kinda illustrates "Bleak Faith" like, a little? it pays lip service to it? they both give vaguely Judeo-Christian vibes but honestly the Forsaken bit isn't pulling a lot of weight here.
if Read Only Memories glommed on to two perfectly serviceable titles, this is a great example of a game that really only needed one. "Bleak Faith" sounds pretty cool; "Bleak Faith: Forsaken" sounds like i'm about to enjoy 2-3 hours of a 20-hour indie title
Tumblr media
and yet Faith: The Unholy Trinity says "ah but what if the game's primary title was so meaningless you literally couldn't even hold it in your head?" i don't know about you but i am looking at this screenshot i took from Steam myself, i'm reading the name, and my brain is still telling me that this game is called "The Unholy Trinity."
Tumblr media
now we're talking! these ones are fun because the subtitle isn't a subtitle at all, it's describing what the game is like - and yet you gotta have it there. it's a style thing.
remember when you'd fire up Metal Gear Solid and it'd SLAM the title on the screen and then there was that stylish "TACTICAL ESPIONAGE ACTION" thing at the bottom alongside some minimal katakana? fucking peak aesthetics
Tumblr media
this is a game name that feels like there should be a colon there. it absolutely should be called "Bomb Rush: Cyberfunk". artistic integrity, and a less-than-subtle nod to the precursor (Jet Set Radio) have rescued this title from the Tyranny of the Colon.
unfortunately the latte i made this morning has not rescued me from the Tyranny of the Colon, so if you'll excuse me this is probably a good place to stop

Got off my butt and finally read the origins for the public domain superheroes Micro-Face and Zippo. Both came from Hillman Periodicals and premiered in Clue Comics No 1 along with the more famous public domain hero Boy King and his Giant. Unlike then, Micro-Face and Zippo are inventors who built their powers. Zippo is pictured above, he’s a low level speedster whose max speed is like 65 mph to 85 mph. (I do not recall it coming up in his origin, but I saw both numbers cited on the public domain superheroes wikia) Micro-Face works more from the shadows, his mask has a microphone built in to broadcast his voice, and it also enhances his hearing and gives him telescopic and x- ray vision. He’s more the type to play mind games, confusing his enemies to have them turn on each other.
Micro-Face’s story is the worst aged of the two in my eyes, for one thing a gangster gets called the G-slur by a cop, and Micro-Face is the brother of a cop and my gut says ACAB. Also the villain’s plan is … weird. His gang randomly kills one cop at a time, and then use the dead guy’s badge for the winning number an underground lottery, then the winner of the lottery gets the money only to be later assassinated by the gang so they can take the money back. It is bizarre and complicated and I don’t get it. I do appreciate how distinct Micro-Face looks, and the idea of him listening in from afar and then broadcasting messages to confuse his enemies is unique in a book where punching is more the style, but his fight scenes then end up being not very dynamic. Likewise Micro-Face does not have much of a supporting cast in his origin, his brother dies and he’s like the only named character in his life. On the contrary, Zippo has a secretary, she’s barely in it and I cannot remember her name, but that’s still a bit meater.
Zippo is better in terms of aging, no slurs that I noticed. The plot of his is also a little weird but it felt more coherent, I believe the villain (who has a theme unlike Micro-Face’s gangsters) is using rumors to make factory workers jump ship from war plant to war plant, and the villain gets a cut of the profits for recruiting them. Meanwhile, the original factories have to rehire employees and those new worker have to be retrained so even though the experienced workers are still employed, it slows production. I think that’s a plot. I am not a fan of the war industry, (feels like there ain’t a war crime the U.S. hasn’t done) and it does get a bit “patriotic,” but the comic came out in 1943 so it was during WWII, so I will make an exception. Admittedly Zippo is a PI and that’s borderline ACAB in my gut, but the comic actually addresses that he’s a bit out of the system, and it does give his civilian identity a plausible reason to be investigating, and a reason people would ask him for help. His design is more generic superhero than Micro-Face save for the wheels on his boots, (head gear is fun though) but his action scenes are far more dynamic, and he uses his tech in unique ways. I mean yeah he can move fast, but as a minor spoiler, his wheels can work as sawblades. Also his enemy in this story is called the Pirate and after he kills his doubting henchmen there is actual blood on his sword. The Pirate instantly was more threatening than Big Boston or whatever the name of the gangster in Micro-Face’s story was, tell the truth I kind of already forgot it. But the Pirate, I would say he is an actual supervillain. Overall, Zippo’s origin was a good enough story, maybe not the best, but perfectly fine. And apparently his story got reprinted seven or so years back, so I might want to look that up. Could be cool to have a physical copy.
So yeah, enjoy these thoughts on the first appearances of two Golden Age inventor superheroes. And again, they both are in the public domain and are free to use for anyone. And that’s kind of why I looked into them, to see if I would want to use them in my original superhero stuff. I have kind of a rough concept for them crossing over with some of my characters, long story.
Tagging @espanolbot2 @nitpickrider @majingojira @paulsebert @akirakan @thefingerfuckingfemalefury @bear-of-mirrors @renaroo @heckcareoxytwit and anyone else who might be interested in my thoughts for the origin of two tech superheroes. Of them, I might try to check out Zippo’s next appearance the next time I get spellslots/spoons, as you might notice I vibed with his story more.

🤩 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Yuan He Hello everyone! It's time to direct the spotlight toward our community members, and today we will get to know better Yuan He!
"Hi, my name is Yuan He, also known as lego_nuts in the AFOL community.
I began my LEGO photography journey in 2018. Initially, I just wanted to take photos of minifigures and official sets, creating interesting stories.
Tumblr media
Later, I got into the MOC (My own creation) game, so to have full control of my stories and build more unique scenes, and to me is the best way to explore my creativity.
Tumblr media
My works includes various themes, but as previously mentioned, storytelling remains at the heart of my creations and because of that I’m always trying to create the perfect moment for my stories and capture them through my camera lens.
Tumblr media
I love using lightings to create different vibes on my projects. My favorite lighting setups are sunset and nighttime, where I appreciate the captivating drama and striking contrasts they can offer to viewers.
Tumblr media
I would say the combination of environment, character and lighting is the key of my photos. I used to love shooting and building sci-fi themes, and I still do, but I don’t want to be limited in specific fields, that’s why I love exploring something that I have never tried.
Tumblr media
I’ve been using SONY A7R2 camera since the beginning. Initially, I relied heavily on a 70mm macro lens, as I focused on capturing intricate minifigure scenes. However, as I started to make my own creation which became bigger and bigger, I found that wide-angle focal lengths such as 35mm and 24mm became more versatile lenses to use. They allow me to capture a wider field of view and better accommodate the scale of my scenes.
Tumblr media
As I mentioned before, I firmly believe that good lighting plays a crucial role, even more so than the camera gear itself. For this reason, I have a collection of various lighting equipment. Among them, my go-to lighting fixtures are RGB LED lights. Their versatility allows me to mimic real-world lighting conditions with great convenience, resulting in more realistic and immersive scenes.
Tumblr media
In my workflow, since I primarily focus on LEGO MOCs, I tend to envision the final shot of my projects during the planning stage. This allows me to strategically incorporate elements such as windows, doors, or hidden spaces that facilitate optimal placement of micro lamps and wiring. Once the project is completed, I typically experiment with various lighting combinations to achieve the desired overall atmosphere. This process often involves taking multiple shots, sometimes dozens, until I capture the perfect image that brings my vision to life.
Tumblr media
I use Camera Raw in Photoshop to edit my photos, and the editing process is not as long as you may think. If the lighting is right, normally I would only spend like 10 minutes to clean up some dusts or exposed lighting wires."
Thank you for accepting our invitation and let the community knows you better!
