controversial opinion: I liked Gamora’s arc in GOTG vol. 3
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
she isn’t the same Gamora. she had none of the same formative experiences from vols. 1 and 2, and if they had molded her to become that Gamora it would’ve fallen flat. but it was important for her to interact with Quill so that they could establish an understanding.
i totally understand why Quill was so bad at every interaction, and i loved that we got basically an entire movie of GOTG vol. 1 scene 1 Gamora. and then I’m so glad she didn’t join them. the Ravagers MISSED her. she has FRIENDS and a HOME. she has a LIFE. we didn’t see her build that life, but that doesn’t make it any less important to her.

They all took a beating, some a bit worse than the others but nothing the Guardians couldn't handle. At least that's what Peter had told Gamora after she'd realised the extent of his injuries.
I tried writing a fic it's too short but it's my first one so bear with me 🙏 I'll do better next time!

If you change your mind
Pairing: Gamora/Peter Quill
Note: English is not my first language. Sorry for the sappy and rushed one shot. I had to write it to get it all out for my own mental health. 🥲
-
The planet Terra from the ship looks like a giant crystal sphere in the sky. Gamora takes a few moments to consider, questioning her decision that drove her there in the first place. She fidgets with the blade in her hands as an uneasy feeling sets deep inside of her. There is no way to understand what impulse took her to the conclusion that she needed this, but she was never the type to back away from a battle.
Many things were not clear about who she had been in the future. Nebula mentioned a few things, but they always sounded unrealistic and quite dumb. It was so unlike herself, yet everyday after saving Rocket and the children… it started to sound more like her. After Peter had showed her a way of humanity in what they do — in what they did — something started to change. Like said before, Nebula had told her some things… but this time she needed to hear them from him. Five years had passed since they last had seen each other, and she was surprised how long and how little time it took her to get here.
Harkening to the sound of the engines she makes the final decision and without further debating she makes her way into Terra. She knows exactly where she needs to be thanks to her sister and it doesn’t take her long to find the place she needs to be.
——
A loud banging on the door disturbs Peter from his place on the couch in the middle of the night as his grandfather sleeps upstairs. He quickly makes his way to the door to avoid waking the elder man already sound asleep. He takes a moment to get ready to face whoever is behind the door; holding one hand up in the air in defense and his free one grabbing a lamp near the entrance.
“Peter are you there?!”
The first thing to hit him was confusion, and then nostalgia. He knows that voice, yet it seems impossible. There was no way to be awake right now and it was all a dream, or so he thought. But he opens the door quickly before his grandfather wakes up for real and causes him discomfort. And there she is, standing under the street lights with a look he once knew very well. His eyes softens at her sight and so does hers.
“Gamora?” He ask whispers with a tilt to his head.
“Peter.” She nods.
He feels light headed surrounded in clouds of heaven.
“Gamora?!” He asks snapping back to reality putting down the lamp on the floor. “What are you doing here?”
She closes her eyes for a moment with an almost forming pout and frown that never shows up, an expression he knows too well that means she is being serious.
“Do come in.” Peter says rather quickly, his heart beating quicker than usual.
He feels a rush of happiness he has not felt in a long time, and makes way for Gamora to get inside the house. She walks past him staring into his face, before looking around and catching small glimpses of the barely lit house. There is a soft blue glowing from a flat screen barely lighting the room with sounds coming from it before Peter walks past her. With no hesitation she follows him as he turns on the lights and turns off the screen with a device, he signals for her to sit down on the couch and she does so. Peter takes a sit next to her with enough space between them.
She looks around not avoiding his gaze, but finding more pictures of the little boy she saw in a picture many years ago. A reminder of the exact moment she found the empathetic side in her that deep down always longed to explore. When she looks back at him, he is staring at her with the same dreamy eyes from the other times they had met.
“Peter,” she begins with a serious tone.
“Gamora,” he interrupts, “I don’t know why you are here yet, but you have no idea the out of body experience I am going through right now. Please, let it not be a dream.”
“You are not dreaming, but…” she pauses, “I am not her.”
Peter frowns.
“And you know what I mean. I am so sorry for your loss, but understand that the Gamora you knew died all those years ago.”
Peter looks away and gets ready to protest before Gamora gets in his space and covers his mouth with her hand to hush him. She closes her eyes and tilts down her head a bit more. And he shuts up recognizing that gesture from another time, from before she was taken away.
“But, also, I am not who I was before.” She speaks confidently before showing vulnerability in the next sentence, “And it’s all thanks to you.”
His gaze softens for a few moments before frowning again, thinking over what she is saying. He takes her hand from his face, and holds it down softly, she lets him.
“Gamora…” he realizes how many times he has said her name, “I remember seeing a new person forming the last time we saw each other. That was all you.”
“With your help I realized that I always fought against my fath- Thanos for a better outcome. For those little girls that were in the same position as me.” She reveals, “Saving your friend and those children, reminded me of every deed I did under his orders and how much I wished things were different.”
That sounds more like the Gamora he knew, and he can’t help but smile. “That has always been you.”
“I think, Peter,” her droppy eyes look more empathic than the last time he saw them, “that you bring out a better person in me. I spent five years doing things I am not much proud of. But,“ she looks into his eyes, “everyday I tried to be better. And I don’t want you to tell me everything about you and… that Gamora just yet. But tell me if I’m right about what I just said: you make me a better person.”
He thinks for a moment and takes this time to admire her there, sitting right in front of him. A sight that not even in his wildest dreams would think it would become true. He notices he is still holding her hand, and realizes how far she has come.
“The family we created was what made all of us better. You made me a better person.” Peter reveals watching her open her mouth a little in a small ‘o’ as she takes in what he just said. “What makes us better is company and love; we loved each other deeply and passionately.”
Gamora looks down pursing her lips and eyes lost in thought. “I think I felt it.”
Peter feels his body relaxing, letting all the tension go. Almost healing losing her in the first place. He knows what she means and that is enough.
“I am willing, Peter.” She looks up as she needs him to see her honesty. “To try and see where this goes. Friendship or anything-“
“Anything.” He interrupts her pulling her close as she almost fights his embrace. “It is time for us to go home.”
“Home.” A faint smile appears in her face as she accepts his affection. “I’ll follow your lead, Starlord.”

Quill realizing that in a way what he was doing to Gamora was similar to what The High Evolutionary did to Rocket aka trying to change someone into something that he thought was better (in this case, trying to make this Gamora into the one he loved without taking into account who she actually is) and seeing how cruel and hurtful it is and then just accepting that his Gamora really died and that this new Gamora is her own person...
