My mom loves gangster/mafia movies but has never seen Goncharov. What a poser

I know it was only on the UK blu-ray (and even then, limited edition) but Scorsese's commentary for Goncharov puts SO MUCH into perspective! The influence of Luchino Visconti, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Franco Zeffirelli is so CLEAR! Martin Scorsese bringing these Italian sensibilities to the material really brings out the sensual side of Ivan Goncharov's original novel. Not to discredit Matteo JWHJ0715's script (which is gorgeous if you haven't read, I have a friend who works in archive shit in Europe who sent me a couple of pictures of it 😍) but the direction and the production design really make the film FEEL sensual.

Okay y’all you’ve done it: I’m now so obsessed with gangster mafia movies that I devour anything about it that crosses my way.
