Headcanon ask :
Hacker Kim Gaon x Chief Judge Kang Yohan (Also Elijah & Gaon are you know, hacker friends. Since Elijah is also a good hacker) Yohan seeks help from gaon and they sort of become friends? And you know........
Ik you're busy due to your finals? Finals right? So, you can do this headcanon anytime. I'm totally okay with it.
Btw, all the best on your finals. (Fighting!!)
Ah, thank you. My last final is next week, so I have some time this week to just sort of relax
Kim Gaon is an incredibly talented hacker...probably the best in Korea. He can hack into any network he wants without leaving a trace...and can also shut down networks if necessary (especially if he feels like the people behind the network are corrupt)
He never leaves a calling card or like a "name" so no one really knows who he is, save for one little girl named Elijah, who somehow hacks his computer camera/skype and is now talking with him face to face. Or screen to screen
Gaon freaks out because how the fuck did this kid find him and hack him and Elijah just laughs and teases him, saying that he's not the greatest hacker in Korea, she is
Gaon's then like...should you be talking to a stranger like this and Elijah's like "oh I hack people's web cameras all the time to see if they're really who they say they are". Gaon's a little bit more afraid of this teenager than he was a few seconds ago
Elijah then explains that she only accessed Gaon's web camera because she's lonely and wants someone to talk to because no one understands her hobbies and hacking...they just think she's weird and creepy for hacking into other people's servers, systems, networks, etc.
Gaon feels bad as he knows what it's like to be lonely so he decides to befriend Elijah and they talk almost every day. They get along quite well and Gaon notices that Elijah smiles a lot more than the first day he met her
Then one day a man walks into Elijah's room when she's on a call with Gaon and Gaon pauses because he doesn't know if the man is a family member or what but Elijah assures him that this is her uncle, Chief Judge Kang Yohan. Gaon blinks in surprise and Yohan greets him politely before he asks Elijah if she'd be willing to hack a network for him
Elijah nods before she looks at Gaon and soon both of them have their fingers flying over the keys, Yohan watching with a raised eyebrow as they work. Soon they have what he's looking for and Yohan hums before he thanks both of them and leaves
After that one instance, anytime Yohan needs some hacking done, he asks for both Elijah and Gaon's help because having two hackers is always better than one, in his opinion
And sometimes he stays, sometimes he doesn't because he's busy with other things. If he does, he asks Gaon about himself and how he met Elijah because you know, she's his only niece, she's practically his daughter, he's a little protective of her
Gaon just assures him that he's not a creep, it was Elijah who connected with him first. He does tell him a little about himself, but like...not everything. Since he doesn't know Yohan that well, he doesn't need to know everything
Over time, the three slowly become closer until one day when Gaon calls Elijah for their daily video calls, Elijah doesn't answer, Yohan does
"Kim Gaon"
"Sir? Is there something wrong?"
"It's Elijah. I think something happened to her"
Gaon frowns
"But Elijah doesn't...leave the house, right?"
Yohan huffs and pinches the bridge of his nose
"Normally she doesn't, but she was meeting up with some school friends that came to visit Korea so she wanted to hang out with them. I let her go but then when I came to pick her up, she wasn't where I dropped her off and she's not answering her phone"
Gaon nods before his fingers fly over his keyboard, searching for Elijah's location before he smiles and looks at Yohan
"I'll send her your location and meet you"
Yohan blinks in confusion before his phone buzzes and he looks at the location Gaon sent him as Gaon ends the video call
Gaon then gets ready, quickly changing his clothes into something nice and brushing his hair before he heads out, catching a cab to the location he sent Yohan
When he arrives at the park, he finds a black Escalade waiting in the parking lot and the minute he gets out of the cab, Yohan steps out of the Escalade and walks over to him, eyeing him up and down
"It's nice to meet you in the flesh, Kim Gaon"
"I could say the same thing about you, Kang Yohan"
Yohan chuckles before he huffs
"Where's Elijah?"
Gaon smiles before he motions for Yohan to follow him as they head through the park until they find Elijah laughing with a few of her friends that she made from school
Gaon then looks over at Yohan and smirks
"See? She's perfectly fine"
Yohan huffs before he walks over to Elijah, Gaon following him, as Elijah turns and smiles at them
"Yohan!" *sees Gaon in person* "GAON!"
She then wheels over to Gaon and hugs him tightly, Gaon laughing as he pets her hair
"Hello Elijah"
Elijah then pulls away as she looks up at him
"I've always wanted to hug you and now I can!"
Gaon laughs and gives her another hug as Yohan watches them with a fond look on his face. When Gaon and Elijah pull away again, Gaon smiles
"Take your time. Your uncle and I won't be too far away, k?"
Elijah nods and lets go of Gaon as she turns and wheels back to her friends while Gaon takes Yohan's arm and guides him to a park bench that's not too far so that Elijah and her friends are within their sights
As both men sit and watch Elijah with her friends, Yohan looks over at Gaon, eying him up and down, causing Gaon to look back him with a raised eyebrow
"What?"
"Nothing. You're just much more handsome in person"
Gaon blushes and Yohan chuckles before they go back to watch Elijah laugh and have a good time with her friends

Gaon to Yohan: “Please let me take care of you.” Hurt/comfort please! Thank you!
(So many moments in the series to use this... Also, love how I said "lil" and it turned into this. I really can't stop myself sometimes...)
Ga-on's ribs hurt. There's an ache across his shoulders too, where he'd taken some sort of blunt object to the back. He doesn't let any of that stop him though hastily enters the code to the Kang’s manor and heads for the stairs taking the steps, two at a time, to get to Yo-han's room.
Soo-hyun telling him the truth once she'd rescued him, that the Chief had called her, sounding out of sorts but making it clear that Ga-on needed help, had been surprising. He’d watched her hesitate out of the corner of his eye when he'd asked how she'd known where he was and then she'd met his gaze as the car drew to a stop and told him.
Immediately worry sprang up between his ribs like tangling vines, Soo-hyun had said Yo-han sounded... off. That hadn't sat right with him. If there was one thing Yo-han was a master of it was controlling how others saw him and Ga-on was sure that the man would have never willfully shown Soo-hyun any such weakness.
Ga-on had wanted immediately to go to the Kang's, fear in his lungs, but had acquiesced when Soo-hyun urged that they, at the very least, get him cleaned up.
"What use will you be to them if you can hardly stand on your own huh?"
She'd been right of course and Ga-on was anxious, knee jumping up and down, the entire time Soo-hyun had carefully wrapped his torso with wide bandages, unable to properly meet his eyes. Ga-on could only imagine what was going on in her head. It was no secret her vehement mistrust of Kang Yo-han. Hell, Ga-on himself still isn't sure if he fully trusts the Chief. But regardless of that and where their last fight might have left them, he cares. Frankly, he’s quite sure he’s one of the only ones, Elijah excluded, who might.
Soo-hyun had barely finished taping him up, her fingers lingering on the covered bruises before Ga-on was up and reaching for a new shirt, one that wasn't covered in dust and sweat, maybe even a little blood. It's a bit heartless, he knew, after everything his childhood best friend had done for him, but the weight of something being wrong made his chest feel concave and twisted and the only way it would clear was by seeing Kang Yo-han with his own eyes.
Ga-on had turned back to her, to at least offer the courtesy of a thanks, but the heavy look Soo-hyun leveled him with only made his throat close tighter. He was hovering between two choices, two paths… Soo-hyun's eyes asked him to stay, to keep himself safe, to let her make sure of it... But Ga-on knew what the pang in his chest was telling him to do and he’d watched, eyes stinging, as Soo-hyun realize it too.
She’d offered him a wobbling smile and a shaky reminder to be careful as he rushed out the front door of his own home.
Now, as Ga-on rounds the banister of second-story landing, he hardly catches Elijah out of the corner of his eye. He stops and turns to her, catching his breath, chest heaving from taking the stairs too quickly. She looks unharmed, but there's something clearly weighing down on her shoulders, and the expression pinching her normally soft and neutral features is cloudy. She doesn't offer him a hello, just tells him where Yo-han is.
Ga-on had only been highly suspicious something was wrong but now he knows it's true and that fuels him the rest of the way to where Yo-han's room is.
He doesn't bother with politeness by announcing his entry, just pushes his way inside like he's been doing since the beginning really. The sight that greets him makes Ga-on's blood freeze, eyes going wide at Kang Yo-han, doubled over on the floor, groaning in agony, hooked up to an IV bag as the news drones from the television in front of him.
Ga-on jerks forward when Yo-han's head turns toward him. It's those eyes, fiery and pained, that snap Ga-on out of his temporary stupor.
"Chief," Ga-on chokes as he falls forward onto his knees, hands hovering, not sure where to touch first- if he even should. He settles for Yo-han's shoulders, as it seems that's where the older man is trying to grab as he shakes and gasps. The moment Ga-on’s fingers brush over the area Yo-han is practically throwing himself away from the contact.
"Don't-!" Whatever else Yo-han is trying to say gets cut off by a sharp cry when he sits up too quickly. Ga-on’s hands hang uselessly between them while his eyes wildly search for the cause of all this distress and hurt.
When he catches the sight of bandages through the deep opening of Yo-han’s robe it turns Ga-on into stone. There’s a rust-colored blot in the center of the thickest padding and Ga-on, hardly stupid, knows its blood. Unwillingly, Ga-on is dragged backward in time. The memory is of a younger, even more foolish version of himself, following a trail of curious red dots from his parent's room to the shared bathroom. They’d been the same color as the stain on Yo-han's stomach and the dread that rears up is a learned reaction.
Distantly, Ga-on knows that Yo-han is probably speaking, commanding him to leave, but his eyes are fixed on that spot and all that's in his ears is a high-pitched ringing. Gone from the Chief's side for hardly a day and this is what happens? The damned clog is back in Ga-on's throat. He looks back up to Yo-han and whatever expression he's wearing is apparently drastic enough to shut the other up, if only temporarily.
Ga-on reaches out again, more tentative, gentler, this time. Yo-han shifts, trying to inch back again, but Ga-on doesn't let him. Instead, he swallows hard and grasps the edge of Yo-han's robe, eyes falling back on the bandages. He feels childish, gripping at the fabric with a tight and trembling fist.
A silence lapses over them, the President shouting nonsense from the television, when a hand carefully drops on top of his own. Ga-on looks up again and the eyes, half-hidden behind Yo-han's hair are unusually soft, even with the traces of hurt that lingers.
"Ga-on-" Yo-han's voice is graveled and tired. Ga-on lets out a shuddering breath, close to a gasp, realizing he'd momentarily forgotten to breathe. The grip he has on Yo-han's robe tightens, tugging, silencing Yo-han.
"Please..." There's so much going on in his head right now, between what's happening in the outside world and what's happening here with Yo-han, between the two of them even, Ga-on needs a point of focus, a compass needle in the sudden storm of his life.
"Ga-on..." Yo-han says his name again with a sigh, on the verge of either saying something that effectively puts his foot in his mouth (as he often does) or dismissive and tone-deaf for the tense circumstance. Ga-on isn't going to let him.
“Please let me take care of you.”
They fall into silence again and Ga-on wonders if the widening of Yo-han's eyes is from the offer of care or how earnest, desperate, Ga-on knows he sounds. Yo-han’s expression goes blank again and there's a horrible moment, Ga-on sure that Yo-han will insult the vulnerability he’s so willing to share, as he often does, but it never comes. Instead, Yo-han seems to let his whole body go slack, swaying slightly with exhaustion from where he's sat back on his knees.
Resigned, Ga-on's brain offers.
Eyes still closed Yo-han pats Ga-on's hand, the one still threatening to tear the delicate silk of Yo-han's robe.
"Help me up."
Ga-on does that, scrambling to his feet and then supports Yo-han to his own, letting the older man use him as a crutch, leaning heavily into his side as Ga-on lays him down on the mussed covers of the bed.
Once Yo-han's settled Ga-on hovers, unsure how to be useful now that it seems the worst of the pain has passed. When Yo-han sighs and grabs his wrist, pulling him down to sit by his thighs Ga-on goes willingly. Ga-on pretends he can’t still feel the heat of Yo-han’s hand from where it rests close to his own.
"Sit. Stay." Yo-han's eyes are shut again as he relaxes back into his pillows, the commands sounding more like light suggestions. When Ga-on doesn't speak but also doesn't leave, those eyes slide half-open. "Good boy." It's said teasingly and even though there are still questions running like off rail trains in Ga-on's head, the tone is a lifeline to pull him clear from any impending crashes. It makes Ga-on flush, but he bites off the reaction and chooses instead to scowl, sliding back into more comfortable, safe, territory for them.
Reaching for the bedside table where a bowl of cool water and a clean towel sit, Ga-on dampens the towel and leans up to drag the cloth across Yo-han's sweat-damp fringe. The other's sharp gaze tracks him but Ga-on is undeterred and Yo-han doesn't protest.
Ga-on will ask questions later, he'll probably shout and Yo-han will make light of every new horror and injustice he makes him aware of, talk in circles, and make Ga-on swallow bile and acid and all the bad feelings living in his chest, but for now... for now, Yo-han is complacent in Ga-on showing kindness and that will have to be enough.
(And a gif just for funsies)

Here I am again with my TDJ conspiracy theories 🤡
Tumblr media
This time I want to touch on two subjects/theories that I've seen a lot on Twitter and Reddit and I'd like to offer my own input. The first one is:
Yohan invited Gaon to the event with him because he wanted to see if the people that were in the church fire would remember Isaac when seeing Gaon's face and make any comment on it, so it would justify and reinforce his reason for revenge because none of them cared enough to remember the face of the person that almost donated his money to them and was left behind to die.
Alright, it could be, but I'm not convinced because of one simple reason: these people already saw Gaon's face on national TV through the live court trials and were aware of his existence since episode 1. So Yohan would already have his answer to that because he talked to each one of them in some scene or other after Gaon's face was in two of the trials and no one said a thing about it, he wouldn't need to confirm it again. I think the reason he invited Gaon to accompany him was explained in the car by Yohan himself and he just wants Gaon to stay close and where he wants Gaon to be (by his side) as soon as he can.
The second topic is about the homoerotic vibes of TDJ.
Some people are afraid of our lawful husbands being related and some are saying they would drop the show even if they aren't related because "it does seem to have something there but it would be weird AF if it turned out to have something romantic between them because Gaon is Yohan's brother spitted image."
True and I understand, to some extent. BUT.
He's not Yohan's relative as of right now (unless said otherwise and I can only hope I'm not wrong but who knows), they don't share the same blood. In my opinion Gaon is just a doppelganger, it wouldn't be the first time it happens in kdramas, it's pretty common actually and that's why not even Gaon reacted to it when seeing Isaac's picture. The only people that seemed to comment on it were the ones who were close to Isaac and would be affected to some degree in a good or bad way (Yohan, Elijah and the nanny) but it still wasn't portrayed as a big deal enough to make them question it any further or have scenes of them screaming and thinking Gaon is Isaac's ghost, twin or son. They quickly get used to that and move on, it doesn't look like an opportunity for a plot twist of Gaon being part of the Kang family by this point or they're committing serious plot holes already bc c'mon, at least Gaon should have said something about it too and feel the urge to find out the reason why he has the same face as Isaac.
Now, if we consider that I am right and they're not related by blood, it wouldn't be that weird for Yohan to feel attracted to someone that reminds him of a close relative that was essentially his parental figure when his real father didn't want anything to do with him. Why? Oedipus Complex. A psychoanalytic theory that some people end up marrying other people who resemble their parents, parental figure or anyone that helped raise them/was some kind of constant presence from early days in their life (the original theory is too heteronormative/outdated in my opinion, so I said it with my own words and vision, but I'm no psychologist, I can be wrong. I hope the general idea is what counts for the subject discussed here).
It doesn’t mean anything gross. If you love someone, you normally think their traits are good and attractive. Isaac practically raised Yohan, it doesn't mean Yohan feels sexual attraction for his brother but that his brother "brainwashed" him into thinking that his physical appearance and/or personality would be a good trait in any type of relationship.
For example, If you have a good father/mother and they have a nice relationship with each other, you will most likely want to have the same thing they have and find someone like one or both of them to make it work for you like it worked for them. It would make Yohan feel comfortable around Gaon and relax enough to maybe feel more than something platonic, like a romantic/sexual attraction too.
On the other hand, when answering this ask I mention the book by Yohan's feet after he narrates his story to Gaon. The book is called The God of Small Things and I researched about it's plot and ending. Don't read my next words if you pretend to read this book someday and don't want any spoilers.
Three things stand out to me from the wikipedia page:
It is a story about the childhood experiences of fraternal twins whose lives are destroyed by the "Love Laws" that lay down "who should be loved, and how. And how much." The book explores how the small things affect people's behavior and their lives.
The book starts at their "present year" with questions of what happened with the characters and the situations they are in, and the story goes all the way back through the years and ends in the year where it should have been the real start of the book, when everything was fine and happy. There's a lot of family problems, conflicts, abuse, forbidden love and an accidental death to say the least.
Ammu (their mother) blames the twins for her misfortune and calls them "millstones around her neck". Distraught, Rahel and Estha (the name of the twins) decide to run away. Their cousin, Sophie also joins them. During the night, as they try to reach an abandoned house across the river, their boat capsizes and Sophie drowns. When Margaret and Chacko return from a trip, they see Sophie's body laid out on the sofa.
The aunt of the twins and let's say "the main villain" in the book, accused falsely a person she hated for petty reasons as the one that killed Sophie and by doing so, she ends up involving all the characters in the mess and making everyone lie and pay the consequences in her place because she only cares about herself and doesn't want to take the blame. Sophie made me think of Isaac and the aunt would be the villains and powerful people who play with the law, deceiving everyone in the Dystopia.
Anyway, the twins were separated after the whole mess and reunited years later. And guess what? Be warned, it's disturbing.
Rahel and Estha, now 31, are reunited for the first time since they were children. They had been haunted by their guilt and their grief-ridden pasts. It becomes apparent that neither twin ever found another person who understood them in the way they understand each other. Toward the end of the novel, the twins have sex.
Yikes. 😬
Yes, incest happens in the book. But like I said earlier, I don't think it's the case for TDJ. Excluding this part, this description of the twins screamed Yohan and Gaon to me. Yohan, who after years of his brother's passing, reunited with someone that is just like him in many ways. Both are haunted by guilt and grief of their pasts, they share the same hate for powerful people that ruined their lives and took away the person/family they had. They understand each other like no one else can. If that means they will have a romantic closeness too, we will have to wait and find out... after all The Devil Judge is categorized under lgbt on iqiyi and:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the day theories are just that: theories, it doesn't mean I'm right or it's the truth. I might laugh at myself in the future when reading this again after the show ends. 😂
With that, I rest my case.

I took a nap, and my brain decided to mess with me.
I had a dream about Gaon calling Yohan, hyung.
GOD HELP ME PLEASE HE BETTER CALL HIM HYUNG IN THE ENDDDDDD!!!
Can you imagine it? I'd be so sweet! Just imagine it:
Gaon walks into the study, steps hesitant and unsure. He didn't know if he was allowed here, not after everything he's done, but he steels himself and goes in anyway. He's greeted to the familiar(oh so familiar) sight of the esteemed chief judge Kang Yohan in a cosy-looking gown with his hair falling on his forehead, a sight that made Gaon just want to melt in a puddle because he just felt so fond-
He shakes himself out of it and reminds himself why he's there in the first place. Taking a deep breath he strides towards his desk and waits. Yohan hasn’t said anything yet, despite surely having noticed that he was present. Gaon knows why, and he is again assaulted with a wave of regret. Resolve already shaking, he starts off:
“Bujangnim....”
Yohan looks up at last and hums. He looks as if they were just having a normal conversation and as if he actually has no idea what he's here for. His eyes, however, were a different story entirely. They bore into his very soul with an emotional intensity that he couldn't quite describe. Gaon swallows his nerves away, and whispers, “Sorry. I’m so so sorry-!” he chokes up, tears already starting to fall. Berating himself because he didn't have the guts to apologise to the man who really deserved it.
Yohan immediately drops the act and rushes over to him, patting him on the shoulder and looking so, so worried, which just made Gaon so much more upset because he didn't deserve this man. Not after he betrayed him like that. His voice dropped to nearly incoherent mumbles in between his sobs, apologising over and over again.
All of a sudden, he felt strong and warm hands encapsulating him, and he let out a shiver. A firm hand rubbed his back, while one pushed his head into the crook of his shoulder, all the while whispering words of comfort. He nearly sobbed again, unbelieving of this kindness that was so, so unlike his Yohan that he couldn't help but feel even more regret.
An eternity passed before Gaon calmed down and let go of his shoulder. His face was tear stricken and swollen and he couldn't meet Yohan’s eyes. “ I'll get you a glass of water.” with that Yohan was walking away but Gaon grabbed his hand. Yohan stopped and waited. Gaon started again:
“I really am sorry, bujangnim. I...know what I did was wrong, but I couldn't think and you were hurting-I could see it and I didn't- couldn't let you go on like that. I shouldn't have done that to you, not when we were finally-” and here he stopped again, but powered through.
“We were finally getting somewhere and I just ruined that. I hurt you and I hurt Elijah and everything was a mess because of me!” he wailed. “Im sorry hyungie-” and he gasped. He quickly whipped his head up to see Yohan’s face, worried that he overstepped again but all he could see was...a quiet shock. His face was slack, his eyes wide open and his mouth slightly ajar.
But his eyes, they were so expressive. Gaon saw a mix of emotions, flurrying about in his eyes, as if he was feeling a hundred things all at once before they all melded into one, concrete feeling. Joy. Utter joy that was tinged with disbelief that Gaon said such a thing, and in wonder Gaon couldn't speak. Slowly, Yohan stepped towards him and grabbed his arms.
“Say that again.” Still amazed and a little shy, Gaon mumbled, “ Hyung.”
“Louder.”
“Yohan hyung.” and then he was wrapped in warm arms once more, Yohan giving a disbelieving chuckle at his shoulder as if he couldn't quite grasp what was happening. They stayed that way for a while, before Yohan mumbled, “I was really hurt. I didn't expect that from you...but you were right too. If I continued, I might have really gone insane.”
Gaon felt many emotions all at once. Relief, incredulity, happiness but most of all regret. Regret that he let this happen, let them fall this far but he couldn't bring himself to think more on it as his body felt heavy, lulled to a state of relaxation by the loving arms surrounding him. All he could think was,
“How could I have ever thought that someone so safe could be the devil?”

Hi! I love reading your thoughts on devil judge. After I watched ep 12 today, i was wondering if yohan sees gaon as gaon or isaac. He seemed to be so desperate for gaon to choose and stay with him and... i just started to question what does yohan see in gaon. A new different person as he is, or a reflection of his own brother? Does he chase the real gaon or is he grasping on the remaining of his brother that he doesnt wanna lose again? I just wanna know your thoughts on this :)
Hi anon <3 my opinion is that Yohan has stopped seeing Gaon as Isaac for some time now, if he ever actually did. Gaon reminds Yohan of Isaac (reminding is different from replacing) and Yohan sees some similarities in Gaon's actions that sometimes he comments on them when it happens (like judging things based on what they see or the face thing) but with everything else, Yohan never showed any signs of acting suspicious and weird as if he's using or seeing Gaon as a substitute for Isaac. People comment a lot of similarities between me and my siblings, including face and mannerisms, but it's not in a bad way and they don't see me as their replacement or clone. It's more like Gaon triggers his last memories of Isaac when he had the same face as Gaon, but not that he was like "this dude is totally Isaac that came back from the dead and he shall be my second brother, Isaac 2.0".
He acts like someone that recognizes Gaon's existence and likes Gaon as the new different person he is, like you said. The guy that slowly entered their family and hearts and became a second parental figure to Elijah and love interest friend to Yohan hehe It's normal that after losing someone so important to him and having another person that is just as important like his brother was and his niece is, makes Yohan afraid and traumatized of feeling this loss all over again, but it doesn't mean Yohan is afraid bc Gaon is Isaac's replacement and he's losing "Isaac" for a second time. If Gaon had a face that looks like Isaac's adult one or not, Yohan would still be losing someone called Gaon that he is fond of, right? He doesn't let new people in so easily precisely for that and the fear of being betrayed or hurt for their money like before, it's a coping mechanism.
Just like Gaon was afraid of losing Soohyun and now is afraid of never being able to contact Yohan again or see them/be with them after not choosing them because he has lost his parents/family before and they are each other's found family.
I hope I helped with my thoughts, so don't worry your cute head too much with that. But bear in mind that ya'll can still have your own opinion and if people think that's the case, then it is! Let's wait to see in the other episodes!
