In My San Diego Garden and Kitchen

A late spring salad for a gathering of friends utilizing a glut of lettuce with additions of garden carrots, radishes and calendula petals.

Garden gifts as the mesclun lettuce and arugula finish their run.

The season of apricots begins slowly and later than usual this year. The crop appears to be significantly smaller than the 120 pound yield of 2022 but we’ll savor whatever comes.

Keeping the color theme going, I’ll insert a favorite bouquet from last week here.

The Italian purple artichokes come to an end and prepped to cook become a work of art by knife.

Small but treasured harvests.

my parents got me a "flower of the month" subscription, and I have to say, I'm really digging the opportunity to take dramatic photos without leaving my apartment.

best prank my nan ever pulled was getting my granddad a pack of 100 cigarettes (if you've never smoked, you can buy 100 packs which is 5 packets of 20 encased in a plastic wrap, or a box)

she very carefully unstuck the outer covering and slid out all the packets

then she equally carefully undid the individual plastic wraps on the packets from the bottom (again, if you've never smoked, there is one of those little pull tabs at the top to take the top part off, but the bottom is folded over and stuck)

doing this without ripping the plastic is very difficult

she slid out all of the packets from their plastic gowns

she very carefully opened each box so as to not rip or damage it

she carefully folded back the inner paper

she removed every single cigarette

in one box, she replaced the contents with candy cigarettes

and then, painstakingly, she slid each box back into its plastic wrap

re-folded and stuck the plastic at the bottom

put them back in the outer plastic, with the candy cigarette one at the bottom (so as to be last) and restuck that

and gave the cigrarettes to my granddad

#the patience and dexterity to pull that one off #not a prank: but for xmas one year her best friend remarked she wished money grew on trees #so my nan got a little sapling tree from the garden centre #and spent all day wrapping 2P COINS in foil so they looked like the chocolate coins you get at xmas #and tied them all on to the tree #and gifted her a 'money tree'#which had about 50p on it lmao #with a note that said it was budding but if you wait it'll flower into £5 notes

Here are the Mother’s Day garden gifts for my daughter-in-law, Sarah.. She is a committed, caring and creative mom to our two under five grandsons. She’s also an amazing cook. I wonder what she’s do with these.
