set up a bigger tank for the two hainanensis Chinese cave geckos I got from Pangea this weekend at NARBC (still gonna be adding stuff to it but its livable for them atm). really kinda hoping those two are girls so that I can buy an adult male later on from another breeder, but I never see cave geckos at my local shows so I couldn't pass them up. actually I have seen cave geckos locally but they were from people I consider somewhat sketchy and I didn't trust that they were captive bred. all the ones I got this weekend definitely were.
speaking of not being able to pass them up, I also got a bigger tank for the bawanglingensis Chinese cave gecko I also got this weekend but I'm not sure if I'm gonna put the little guy in it quite yet because he's so tiny and he might be more secure in the critter carrier. I'll probably get it set up this week regardless and then see how I feel about it.
I honestly wasn't looking to get into two different species of Chinese cave gecko, but I saw the little bawanglingensis guy the second day of NARBC and I couldn't pass him up, and like I said I never see ANY cave geckos (that I know aren't wild caught) at my local shows. I might see which species I prefer and consider breeding that one, or I might get into both. either way, I'm gonna need more adults down the line, but I got time to figure that out

Hello! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and excitement! :)
I am a new gargoyle gecko owner (new to all reptile husbandry, actually) and I’m often very nervous about doing things ‘wrong’ and accidentally harming the amazing new friend living with me.
Do you have any easy advice or mistakes to avoid? I have a terrarium with isopoda and living plants and I’m feeding Pangea and live crickets twice a week. Or do you have any good resources/accounts you’d trust for advice on gargs?
Thank you so much and thank you for your care and the love you have for these amazing beings!
—Isy
Hi Isy!
It sounds like you're doing good with your gargoyle already!
Here's a rough care guide for how we do it in case there's anything you're missing or could change 😊 this also serves as a guide to others with gargoyles and also crested geckos since their care is identical
- Minimum enclosure size for an adult 45x45x60cm (18x18x24in)
- Overhead heating and lighting, including UVB
- temperature around 26°C and humidity between 60-80% (drops to around 40% are fine but mostly should be 60-80%)
- decor like branches, plants (live or fake), bridges and ledges, making sure to have enough horizontal spaces to reduce chances of floppy tail syndrome
- feeding complete gecko diet like Pangea or Repashy every 2-3 days, and every 3rd or 4th feeding giving live insects dusted in multivitamin powder
- provide a shallow water dish at all times, but make sure it's shallow since new caledonian geckos are prone to drowning in water that's not actually that deep, around 2cm of water is enough!
- with a cleanup crew like isopods and springtails you don't need to do spot checks that often, but without them spot checks should be every week
- take out fake decor and clean it using reptile safe cleaning products like F10 disinfectant, white vinegar, rubbing alcohol or original scent dish soap

Hello hi I come with a geck ask: that one hidey hole you have for biscotti, that has part of it outside, I assume it is magnetic? Do you remember where you got it? Cuz I think my gargs would kill for that 🥰😂 thank U so much & have a lovely day !!!
Hi!
So, we were initially looking at magnatural hides, since they have magnets that are strong enough to hold the whole hide up. However, they're kind of expensive... We had previously gotten the Exo Terra Canopy Cave, but it kept falling down, even after all kinds of replacements and extras we received from Exo Terra (the humidity is too high).
At that point I was kind of just like... "OK... These ones have the hide on the inside, they have the one wall you can open to look inside, but they're not going to stay up on their own." So although it has the magnetic door, it's just resting on the substrate, which I shifted and dug into more to bring the hide up higher, etc.
They're great hides, most geckos seem to love them, although they might be awkward for quite chunky geckos, you can look inside, it's easy to clean, it's easy to move, and so forth, but they're not actually hanging on their own 😔
I hope you can forgive me for deceiving you! 🙏

Have you thought about Gargoyle Gecko stickers? I have two and can't find much content for them.
Heya! I have some washi tape with gargs on it, and there are some on my redbubble shop. Honestly through, I haven't had many garg commissions come through so I haven't had the opportunity to draw many of them! 🥺

gecko plan update: weird rusty water leaking from the bioactive 😭 so it looks like im ripping everything out and resealing it / using their bio basin which hurts me but ill live. As such.... Thordak is not going full bioactive with all live plants- hes moving into the empty 2x2x2 so he can finally have uvb and a space upgrade, but he will be on mostly faux plants / enrichment bc bioactive is seriously stressing me out 😂 idk i just feel like this will improve qol for both me and him, so I should worry less about ~bioactive~. the other tank will end up as the garg tank down the line once I reseal it and plants re acclimate
