꒰🎹꒱・Having been raised as a member of the aristocracy, the idea of marrying a person for ‘love’ has always been unthinkable to Frederick. A common belief among people of his status, the only real motivation to wed a person was for the sake of bettering your social standing—more so a business transaction than anything even remotely romantic. His exile from the Kreiburg lineage would plague him with the idea that he’d be destined to remain a bachelor until death, losing both the money and status that his fellow nobles sought after. Those notions would be very quickly redefined once you’d entered his life, the thought of proposing to you becoming more and more alluring as your relationship progressed.

꒰🎹꒱・He’s got a minimum of twenty pieces dedicated solely to you, and it’d really only make sense for him to incorporate them into his proposal! Bits and pieces of melodies that you’d helped him refine, motifs from your favorite songs, cute jingles and chimes that you’ve heard whilst walking with him—it’s the composition he’s worked both the longest and hardest on, wanting to perfectly convey just how happy you make him; how much better his life is, thanks to you. His intentions are clear as crystal when he asks you to listen to a ‘special’ piece, his face matching the hue of his garnet coat as he slides the engagement ring onto your finger.

꒰🎹꒱・The two of you would live in an apartment somewhere in the heart of Paris. Small but cozy, sheet music in nearly every corner with a balcony that overlooks the rest of the city. Frederick is initially rather discontented by this living situation, a sense of shame for only being able to afford something so small. He’ll make a few off-handed comments, saying that it’d be better for you to “marry a man that can buy you a house instead of this shoddy apartment,” but he’s secretly relieved when you reassure him that he’s the one for you. There’s something so… comforting about knowing you love him regardless of financial status—even when he feels most others consider him to be a failure.

꒰🎹꒱・He becomes far more open and affectionate after the wedding. While not necessarily the best at singing your praises, there’s a very noticeable improvement in his abilities to express affection verbally. He’s far more straightforward with his compliments, gaining the confidence to directly comment on something you do well or something as simple as how gorgeous you look while going about your day. Frederick also opens up more about the issues he faces with his family, who ꒰unsurprisingly꒱ didn’t show up to your wedding. Your friends and family make quick work of saving the mood, but he writes his parents a very strongly worded letter once you both return from the honeymoon. Even more, he swears off all contact with them until they apologize, a decision that you never would’ve expected him to make.

꒰🎹꒱・Still, he continues to remain shy when it comes to more intimate forms of affection, like kissing. ꒰Something you get great joy in teasing him about.꒱ As such, the ones he gives you tend to be rather chaste in nature, like quick kisses on the cheek—or lips, if he’s feeling bold—before he rushes away to continue working on compositions. You’ll have to initiate anything more than that, something he’s eternally grateful for—even if he is too embarrassed to admit it. He’ll also always make sure to give you a quick smooch before heading on stage for any performances, regarding it as good luck. Although he appears straight-faced to the audience, you’re able to catch sight of the faint blush dusting his cheeks from your spot behind the curtains.

꒰🎹꒱・Frederick’s a bit of a hit or mess when it comes to housework. Having lived independent of his family for some time before meeting you, he does have the capability to take care of himself..! Though there are times where you’re reminded that he never grew up having to do any sorts of chores. He hates having to deal with anything dirty, meaning that there’s a fair amount of collaboration between the both of you. He’ll cook the food, and you’ll do the dishes afterwards. Whenever you wash the clothes, he’s the one that puts them up to dry. He’ll do some light dusting and cleaning, but larger messes scare him off.

꒰🎹꒱・At some point, he just comes to accept how much he adores cuddling with you. A workaholic since his youth, he’d never exactly been able to understand how people could content themselves to just… sit back and do absolutely nothing—finding the idea boring enough to drive him mad. But, wow. He absolutely understands it now. Lying in bed while the first rays of sunlight sneak through the blinds, casting an ethereal glow on your hair and face as he holds you in his arms… Normally, he’d already be out of bed by dawn—even on days when his psychasthenia decided to have mercy and allow him a good night’s rest. But seeing just how adorable you look… Well, the idea of leaving you so soon just seems outright cruel.

꒰🎹꒱・Frederick’s weak spot is his hair, a fact you’d discovered accidentally whilst drifting off to sleep with him. A particularly bad bout of writer’s block certainly didn’t mix well with his insomnia, forcing him to remain awake as the both of you idly chatted and hummed tunes in an attempt to restore his creative spark. At some point, you’d started to massage his scalp—the sensation initially causing him to stiffen beneath your touch. Your attempt to pull away and check in on him was quickly interrupted as he pressed your hand back into his hair, asking you to continue. The stresses of his day-to-day life just seem to melt away with your touch, it seems.

꒰BONUS꒱・Although he considered it cheesy, he often regards your wedding day as the best day of his life—and he keeps the wedding attire in pristine condition. They sit in the back of your shared closet, the thought of them becoming dirty or damaged utterly devastating him. While you’d lived long enough to know of canes marking members of the nobility, it’d been the very first time that you’d seen him using one of his own. Considering the other costs of the wedding, it hadn’t exactly been all that luxurious ꒰a fact that he quietly keeps to himself꒱—though you might just see him using it more often if you tell him you like it. Don’t mention it, really. He’ll get flustered.

Napoleon's Marshals and their Birthstones Part 1

This is a three-part series where I'll be listing the birthstones of all 26 marshals. Part one will cover months January-April, the next post will cover March-August and the last post will cover the remaining 4 months. I'll mainly be focusing on the gemstone's physical and chemical properties as well as writing "short" facts about each gemstone. Before starting the list, I'll provide the definitions of some terms that will be used through the post.

Mineral: A naturally occurring solid which contains a crystalline structure that is made up of a single native element or multiple chemical compounds.

Mohs Scale: A scale system used to measure the scratch resistance of a mineral ranging from 1 (softest) to 10 (hardest). This is done by scratching a mineral with another mineral or with another object like a penny or nail.

Cleavage: The way in which a mineral breaks along the softest plane. Classification of a cleavage ranges from perfect, good, poor, indistinct, to none. A mineral can have a basal, prismatic, cubic, rhomboherdal, octahedral, or dodecahedral cleavage.

Fracture: The texture or shape of a mineral's surface. Some types of fractures are described as conchoidal (ripples), earthy (resembles broken soil), hackly (jagged fractures), uneven, and splintery (resembles splinters).

Luster: The way which light reflects off of a mineral. Minerals can have vitreous (glassy), dull (earthy), adamantine (shiny), greasy, silky, metallic, non-metallic, pearly, resinous, or waxy lusters.

Streak: The color of the powder left behind by a mineral when it is scratched on a piece of unglazed porcelain. The color of the powder is usually different from the mineral's color.

Garnet (January)

Type: Mineral

Group: Silicate (SiO₄)₃

Color: red, orange, pink, green, yellow blue (rare)

Cleavage: Indistict

Fracture: Conchoidal to uneven

Mohs Scale: 6.5-7.5

Luster: Vitreous

Streak: White

Fun Fact: Garnet is its own family that contains six main species divided into two groups: pyrope, almandine, and spessartine species, which are part of the aluminum group (aluminum is present in its structure). Colors in the Aluminum group range from red to pink; these are the garnet species people think of when looking for jewelry. When pyrope is mixed with almandine, it creates rhodolite, and when mixed with spessartine, it creates malaya. Grossular, uvarovite, and andradite species are part of the calcium group (Calcium is present in structure) and are composed of green to yellow garnet. Uvarovite is the rarest of the calcium group because it grows in small chunks, making it hard to work with when making it into a gemstone.

Amethyst (February)

Type: Mineral

Group: Silicate (SiO₂)

Color: Purple to Violet

Cleavage: Indistict to none

Fracture: Conchoidal

Mohs Scale: 7

Luster: Vitreous

Streak: White

Fun Fact: Amethyst is part of the quartz family and it used to be part of the cardinal or most valuable gemstones, along with diamonds, rubies, and sapphires, because it was available in small amounts. Its value dropped after large deposits were discovered in Brazil during the 18th century, making it one of the more affordable gemstones.

Aquamarine (March)

Marshals- Brune, Murat, Soult, Suchet

Type: Mineral

Group: Beryl (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈)

Color: Pale blue, light green, bluish-green, sometimes yellow

Cleavage: Indisticnt to none

Fracture: Conchoidal to uneven

Mohs Scale: 7.5-8

Luster: Vitreous

Streak: White

Fun Fact: Aquamarine got its name because its color resembles the sea. It contains small traces of iron, which (depending on the oxidation state) can change its bluish color to green or yellow. These oxidation states are ferrous iron, which gives Aquamarine its blue color, and ferric iron, which gives it a greenish/yellowish color. Heating the mineral removes the greenish color to restore its blue color[1]. Aquamarine also has weak to moderate flourescent properties under UV light [2].

Diamond (April)

Marshals- Jourdan, Lannes, Oudinot, and Saint-Cyr

Type: Mineral

Group: Native mineral (Carbon (C))

Color: Yellow, brown, gray, white, colorless,

Cleavage: Octahedral, Perfect on all sides

Fracture: Uneven

Mohs Scale: 10

Luster: Adamantine

Steak: Colorless

Fun Facts: Diamonds are formed within the Earth's mantle when carbon-rich materials or carbon dioxide are subjected to extreme temperatures and pressure. It reaches the surface via volcanic eruption and gets trapped inside igneous rocks after the magma cools off. The formation of diamonds takes thousands of years, contributing to their high value [3]. Diamonds seen as potential gemstones have little to no impurities or foreign objects within their structure. In contrast, diamonds with high impurities, irregular shapes, and defects are used in commercial industries due to their durability and hardness. Diamonds are the hardest minerals, and are very difficult to scratch or break, but it's not impossible to do so. They also has a high dispersion of white light that creates a rainbow-like effects, also known as 'fire.[4]'

I'd say that I had other asks, but then I would be lying 🥲. I think that this is such an amazing ask, so I'll try my hardest for you, you amazing anon!!! (I'm in a really good mood too, I just got a good score on my ACTs!!!)

To begin, Joseph isn't a stranger to extravagant things.

He was literally born into the French Nobility!!! He knows his way around some precious metals and gemstones.

His favorite as a child was garnet. The deep red was always a good accessory. It contrasted the blue in his eyes nicely.

He had pearls too, but never paid them any attention. He thought they were a bit plain, to be honest.

So when Joseph sat in his room, simply drinking his favorite wine and thinking, he never expected you to come in with a small box, wrapped as a gift.

You had attempted to hide the present from him, yet even in his tipsy state, he could see small glimpses of pretty ribbon from behind you.

You weren't very good at this, were you?

Joseph hobbled up, still a bit unbalanced from his latest activity. He couldn't just continue on drinking when you were right there, now could he? Certainly not.

It took him a minute though. Please help him up, he's a bit delirious...

He says he's got it, but it taking a while, it's better to just pull him up if you want to give your gift anytime soon.

After Joseph's up, you have his full attention. Especially when you announce you have a gift for him.

He's more of a "quality time" kinda guy, but you can never go wrong with presents!

When you hand over the gift, Joseph can hardly contain his excitement. He's usually more composed than this. (He's not, he's just good at hiding it when he's not drunk)

But anyway-

When Joseph (eventually) opens the present, he's a bit confused. You've given him a pearl necklace? How sweet.

But why?

And that's when you explain.

As your explaining your meaning to him, Joseph's eyes widen.

When you say to him that you've given him the necklace because of how it represents preservation and everlasting, Joseph feels like he might cry.

(He does. You don't even get a chance to comfort him before he jumps on you and smothers you in appreciation and kisses.)

Sure, Joseph isn't heartless and cold, but he is determined to preserve life. Both his own and those of his loved ones. It's what he dedicated his life to when Claude died! It's why he went to the manor in the first place!

So receiving this gift from you is something he sees as a sign of support.

He's so touched that he sobers up real quick. He's shocked. The servants feared his work, and then abandoned him when he needed them most.

But he knows that you would never.

Over the next couple of days, Joseph never drinks. And you often see him doing something, anything with his cameras. They must be perfect after all.

Though, he never neglects you. He'd never dare. In actuality, he gives you more affection and attention than you've ever been given before.

Little do you know, Joseph has procured a matching pearl ring for you. Take this information as you'd like :)

The Anniversary (Steven Universe; Ruby x Sapphire)

(Setting: Set during S2 and takes place a month after Message Received.)

It was a peaceful day in Beach City, the home of Steven Universe and The Crystal Gems: Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, and Peridot. Today, nothing much was going on in the small city except for Steven, Amethyst, and Peridot as the young kid was watching the plump, purple gem and the short, green gem battling it out on one of his favorite video games.

"And the winner is Amethyst!" The game's announcer exclaimed.

"Woohoo, three times in a row!" An excited Amethyst shouted with rave.

"Blast this game!" Peridot croaked with mild annoyance since she lost. Steven chuckled.

"Oh relax, Peridot, it's only just a game. Nothing to freak over about." The happy kid gently smiled. "My turn!" Steven picked up the game controller and looked over at Amethyst.

"One on one," Steven politely asked his gem friend.

"One on one, it is!" Amethyst excitedly agreed.

"Round one, fight!" The video game’s VA announced and the battle began. While the two allies battled it out on the game, Peridot just watched them with an annoyed look on her, which caught Steven's eye.

"What's wrong Peridot," the hybrid asked. "Still salty that you lost?" Steven chuckled, but the green gem rolled her eyes in response.

"No, I'm instead disgusted with the way human technology looks and works compared to Homeworld's." When the cynical gem revealed her answer, the young half-human, half-gem looked disappointed while the immature gem this time rolled her eyes.

"Oh come on," Amethyst groaned. "Seriously, you been here with us for a while now." The purple gem paused the game and stood up.

"Amethyst," concerned Steven. Amethyst just ignored him.

"You've been on Earth for a month now, you began to see and understand why the Crystal Gems came to me; and you even called out your now ex-leader; and yet you're still not pleased?!" The short, purple Crystal Gem ranted to her short, green counterpart who just rolled her eyes before she continued.

"No, that's not yet," Steven sighed in relief, but it wasn't over yet. Peridot walked over to the game's cover and picked it up bitterly.

"It's just how is this technology way much different than all the other technology that you have shown me since my time on Earth?" Seeing her question now, Steven tried his hardest to respond to his little, green friend.

“Well, uh it’s a video game?” That was the only answer the half gem child could say, but just vaguely. Once more, Peridot was just annoyed and scoffed at him.

“I meant,” The genius gem started to debate with Steven by first walking up to the video game’s cover, and picking it up. “Like how are the designs and graphics considered, as you guys put it, “hip and new?” Peridot grunted as she pointed to one of the game’s quoted reviews on the cover. Now understanding what she meant, Steven and even Amethyst felt completely confident to finally answer her question.

“Oh, well that’s pretty simple.” Steven began to teach his little green friend the world of video games and its technology.

Later on, Amethyst and Peridot were sitting in desks as the plus-size, purple gem had a big grin spread all over her face, while her slim, but short green counterpart looked more irritated than usual as if she thought if any of this was going anywhere. Steven himself was now dressed in a white, buttoned-up polo shirt with glasses and black pants, along with brown, steel toe shoes. Basically, he looked almost like a teacher.

“Alright, class is now in session students!” The kid laughed while Amethyst still kept grinning, but only Peridot could keep rolling her eyes in displeasure.

“Just get on with it.” The green gem’s impatience spared, but Steven wasn’t too bugged by it.

“Ahem, now then.” The hybrid offspring got out a chalkboard as he began to teach and write down the origins of video games. “Video games all started way back in the early 1970s, most noticeably with Pong back in 1972.” Steven began his lecture while he wrote down information on his chalkboard. “However, much earlier examples include Space War in 1962, Tennis for Two in 1958, and even a tic-tac-toe inspired one back in 1952.” The donut-loving kid teacher explained with big confidence.

“Eventually, both the popularity of Pong as well as the increase of video games led to the video game crash of 198-”

“Boring!” Peridot finally couldn’t take it anymore and led out her frustration. Steven began to feel concern.

“What, what did I-” Amethyst came to his defense.

“Oh come on, what was that all about?” asked the purple companion with her own exasperation. “He was doing a good job. You couldn’t be patient for one minute?” Peridot scoffed.

“Says the pot.” She then went back to Steven. “I’m not here to hear the origins of Ping or whatever you call it, I want to know why on gem colonization is Earth's technology more advanced looking and well used compared to Homeworld’s technology!” All Steven and Amethyst could do was raise an eyebrow and share a glance with one another.

“What are you talking about?” That’s all the purple one could say; which only led Peridot to facepalm.

“I meant compared to Homeworld, what makes the technology on Earth more reliable and useful?” The little green gem began to rant.

“Sure in Homeworld, we have space travel, teleportation, stuff you’ve seen in those moving picture thingies.”

“Movies,” Steven corrected her.

“Right, but it doesn’t matter.” Peridot concluded her speech now. “The technology we have on Homeworld, while useful and much more advanced, it’s not that comparable when it comes to Earth’s!” Even after they tried to understand her side of the story, neither Steven or Amethyst were still able to understand their green friend.

“Uh yeah, still not understanding dude.” That was all the purple one could say.

“Oh for Gem’s sake,” Peridot finally reached her breaking point.

“I meant like even though the technology on Homeworld has been known to be very advanced due to the creations we made, it’s either all old, unoriginal, and very archaic!” The green one at last revealed her frustration.

“It’s much less superior than the stuff we left on Earth, but compared to over the 5,000 years when our planet began, both Earth’s and Homeworld’s technology can be seen as pretty new and original than Ruby and Sapphire first getting together and becoming Garnet!” Once Peridot concluded her rant, the last sentence struck Steven as if a lightning bolt hit him.

“Wait,” gasped Steven. “So Ruby and Sapphire have been together for that long?!”

“Uh yeah, so?” This statement made the child gasp again.

“Then, that means,” the hybrid finally began to panic.

“They probably never once had an anniversary!” Steven looked over at Amethyst and grabbed her hand as he began to drag her out of the house.

Outside of the temple, Pearl and Garnet have just finished their latest mission, which was to collect as many crystal rocks to summarize what has Homeworld been up to lately knowing at any time, they can attack them.

“Phew, if I saw one more white zircon or another aqua variscite, I was gonna lose it!” Pearl chuckled at her partner, whom just replied in a stoic way as always.

“Right,”

“Garnet, Garnet!” Steven started to cry out for his mentor.

“Steven?” Pearl replied, concerned. The two Crystal Gems then spotted the young hybrid with the plump purple gem who looked all annoyed now.

“Hey, what gives Steven?” Amethyst finally asked, all irritated. The hybrid kid just ignored her.

“Garnet, there you are!” Steven cheered, but Pearl, feeling anxious due to his calling, talked to him instead.

“Steven, are you okay? Are you hurt?!”

“I’m fine, Pearl, but I need Garnet.” The hybrid briefly paused. “In fact, I need Ruby and Sapphire to be exact.”

“What,” both the strong gem and the slender gem asked all confused.

“I do, it’s a very important question!” The young kid kept chirping. The two other gems just looked at their purple ally, who only shrugged back.

“Steven,” Garnet began. “Whatever you have to ask, you can always say it to me. You know that, right?”

“Okay then,” Steven grinned excitedly. “How come Ruby and Sapphire never had an anniversary?”

“WHAT?!” shrieked Pearl, but Garnet just told her to calm down.

“I got this,” the dark red leader looked down at her student. “Steven, Ruby and Sapphire never once had an anniversary because it’s just like birthdays, they don’t need one in the end.” Steven began to argue.

“I understand that, but romantic anniversaries are much more important than birthdays!”

“Steven,” Pearl tried to explain, but the hybrid child couldn’t contain his eagerness.

“They symbolize love, memories, the important person in your life!”

“Yeah, so do birthdays.” Amethyst rolled her eyes.

“But that’s not important,” Steven glued his eyes towards the dark red mentor of his once more. “Oh please Garnet,” the child began to beg. “You have to have Ruby and Sapphire celebrate an anniversary! Steven listed off a few examples. “It will help them remember the good times, it will strengthen their bond!” He then paused for a second. “Not to mention, I’ll do most of the organizing!” Garnet briefly froze.

“You’ll do most of the organizing?” She stoically asked. The apprentice nodded.

“Ruby and Sapphire won’t have to worry about a thing,” Steven flashed a big grin. “In fact, I’ll even be their chauffeur!” After the child gave out his valid reasons, he, along with Pearl and Amethyst, waited for an answer from their leader. A few seconds later, a hand was placed on Steven’s shoulder.

“We’ll discuss plans tomorrow; right now, get a goodnight sleep; chauffeur.” Garnet answered with a wink.

I write about a character per day

Day 18: Luz Noceda

Not my last essay posts, I saved 2 special characters for last.

Gonna get this out of the way first. My favourite Luz ship? Not Lumity, Lunter, Willuz. It's Luney (Luz x Viney) platonically. We cool? Cool.

How far can I talk about the biggest protagonist and main character of the show? I don't know, but it's already in the draft, so going with the flow, just like Luz, it is.

I think one of the aspects of Luz that is very heavily overlooked, is that she is really good at communicating, but sometimes really bad at communicating at the same time. Let me explain.

No matter how difference the themes of different cartoons and shows are, The Owl House, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Milo Murphy's Law (I haven't watched Amphibia), no matter how you think of it, fighting is not the main theme. Say all you want, you can't change my mind on it. Fighting doesn't result in you gaining more allies, it only get rid of them. Communication. Is. The. Key. If you can get someone who's on the other side or indecisive to your side without violence, it's incredibly impressive.

Adventures are where allies understand each other better, the one main fight doesn't matter if the allies still can't align. I didn't pull this out of nowhere, remember when Stan and Ford almost got everyone harmed because they can't agree on a grammar mistake, or Steven got his dad kidnapped because Garnet doesn't want to tell. Communication doesn't mean "just talk it out". Communication means an unconditional negotiation that you gain the ally without the risk of them being your enemy again, get rid of the ill-gotten purpose of them being your enemy. How bad was Luz's miscommunication? Well...that may be a really long list, from running away from her mom, almost got her and Amity sowed in a book, and so on and so on.

Luz despite all that bad communication, she still managed to fix everything and get along well with everyone, by...communication. I know, too many times, sorry not sorry. Bad communications lead to division, good communications result in better understanding and sensibility. Communication is the key of change. Luz did not get a cute purple hair girlfriend out of nowhere, so much communication happened. The times Luz and Amity on the brink of collapse because Luz refused to opening up to Amity, but then when she opened up they just got even closer (I like Lumity, just not my all time favourite). Luz changed Amity so drastically we sometimes forgot how much of a brat Amity was in Season 1.

I'm just going through all the recipients of Luz's sensibility. Starting with Camila. Camila and Luz had a massive rift in the beginning, and Luz being really anxious towards her mom? No problem, Luz just need to run away to realize Camila really loved her and wanted things to get better for them. Seriously that scene when Camila holding Luz before she got pulled away made me cry a bit. Even got a cool new snakeshifter by opening up to Camila. Both Camila and Luz were direct victims of an ableist society. Camila hided away her past, Luz tried escapism. But only when they decided to opening up to the other is when they finally found each other. The neurodivergent representation in the show is quite impressive, and I'm giving it where it deserves.

You might think you can't just magically get a right hand man of an imperial overlord on your side by just communicating, but Luz did. Luz recognized the low point of Hunter, and decided to get them to their side. Luz helped Hunter realizing what Belos really is, slowly but surely it made Hunter doubting what he's doing, and finally get him to his side, even called him a brother to her. From trucing against a common enemy, to actually worked together. The hardest part which is shifting Hunter away from Belos' side, she had done, and Hexside was there to finally get Hunter to her side.

Even her allies from the beginning got a lot better with her. Collector said "she's cold-hearted but actually cares a lot". Who made her care a lot? Luz. Luz helped her find her purpose. Luz is her purpose. Every time Luz disagreed with Eda, she got herself into trouble. But every time like that, Eda understood Luz more and more. Luz's desire to live in the Isles and go on adventure had beaten minor disagreements with her new mom. Or Willow, who got so much more confident ever since Luz been around. Gus started getting the respect he deserves by hanging with Luz.

And finally let's get to the one that Luz's enemy that she can't get through, Belos. I'm going to repeat this once again, redemption and changes must come from both side. No matter how much convincing and talking, it wouldn't work if the other side aren't desire to change. Belos didn't see where he did wrong, nor was he wanting to change either. No more comparing The Owl House with Steven Universe or any other cartoons or I'll block you on sight. I do find it funny that the end of each season was Luz tricking Belos into disadvantage. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me thrice, just skill issue at that point.

Luz Noceda is a great protagonist. Hero of the Isles. One with a hella cool Titan form, 2 moms, 1 girlfriend, and finally found herself where she belongs and being understood. I'll miss her a lot, 15 minutes of her Titan form is precious.

Christmas in Devildom with the two older bros

I'm planning on finishing this prompt either today or tomorrow and then moving on to write something for some idv ans genshin characters so stay tuned (✯ᴗ✯)

you treasured the moments you got to spend with your family. holidays, birthdays, celebrations, these were all special memories you wouldn't forget. watching your parents open the gifts you had tried so hard to get them, seeing what other people got you. it was a thrilling experience.

on this particular year, however, you were spending your christmas holidays in your temporary residence, the house of lamentation.

it was lucifer, believe it or not, who had invited you. he had prefaced by saving how holidays were hectic at the HOL (wasn't everything hectic there-?) but that he and his brothers would greatly enjoy your presence.

and finally... the precious day came!

lucifer gave you his gift when you woke up on the morning of christmas. after he had gotten ready for the day ahead, he had stopped by the bedroom once more to see if you had stirred. and to his surprise, you were up and dressed.

"my, you're up early, aren't you?" he mused, walking over to your sitting figure. you looked up from your d.d.d. and nodded. jumping up and hugging him as tightly as you could muster.

"yes! lucifer, it's christmas!" you cheered.

he laughed in response. his laugh was so warm, it stuck to you like honey. a thought crossed your mind, how long had it been since the brothers had heard such a laugh? especially from their dearest older brother.

to your surprise, he pulled out a small box, not covered in wrapping paper. it was a deep red shade of scarlet, and covered in velvet.

as he handed it to you, he urged you to open the small box. inside of it was a garnet necklace, with the pendant made to look similar to the symbol of pride. lucifer's symbol.

"this is..." you trailed off, unsure of how to finish the sentence. beautiful was not a good enough description, it was magnificent- no- perfect!

"thank you, lucifer." you managed to whisper. it was an amazing gift, that's for sure.

"allow me to put it on you?" he asked, his hand outstretched. you nodded and handed the box back to him.

he put the necklace around your neck, and you quickly walked to the mirror in the bathroom, eyes curiously searching it. in the mirror, it complimented you perfectly.

to lucifer, however, it did one of two things. compliment your gorgeous exterior, and also allow everyone to know just who you belonged to.

mammon was too impatient to wait for christmas day, so at ten or eleven at night on christmas eve, he ran into your room, and burst open the door.

"come on and open yer present already!" he nearly shouted as you opened the door. you couldn't help but giggle at the sight in front of you.

mammon was standing in his pajamas, and a pair of slippers holding what you presumed was your present. it was poorly wrapped, but you could tell mammon had really tried his hardest on this one. the perfect bow atop the mess was just the cherry on top.

mammon shoved the present in your face as you let him in and lead him to your bed. he was red in the face and wasn't making eye contact.

as per his request, you opened the gift. although there wasn't much to open, since the majority was ripped already.

but inside, you found that pair of shoes you wanted for so long. it was the exact pair you had been looking at for nearly months now! debating on whether or not to splurge on the hefty price, mammon had decided to make the decision for you.

"try 'em on!" he urged. you listened, pulling them out of the box they were in and sliding them on your feet. to no surprise, they were a perfect fit, with a little bit of wiggle room left as well.

"you kept on mentionin' how much you wanted 'em," he shyly explained. "so... merry christmas."

you abandoned the other shoe and jumped on mammon in a big hug. although you couldn't see it , the smile on your face was worth every penny had had to save.

"merry christmas mammon!"

Birthstone Legacy Challenge

Ok, I don’t post a lot on here, but I’m a huge fan of the sims. I’ve been playing it since gen 1 back in 2000. So, I’ve been having fun with challenges, especially the past couple years with 100 Baby, and I’ve found online. And after reading hearing and reading up on Lilsimsie’s Not So Berry Challenge, I had an idea of my own challenge. So, I thought I’d share if anyone else wanted to play along.

Disclaimer: These challenges mean nothing in regards to people born in that month. I simply took symbolism and cultural aspects of each stone to create a challenging and interesting playthroughs you might not think to do.

Lifespan requirements: Normal (not sure if it’s possible on Short, but if you want hard mode, do it).

The idea is to start with your month’s birthstone, then each generation is the next month’s stone for either 10 generations (traditional Legacy), or 12 if you wan to do the full year. You could also start on the month after your birth month with a full year play-through, so your birth month acts as a “finale”. Might be helpful if say your birth month is April, and you know your month’s stone is Diamond and to you it sounds like a finisher, or if your birth month is December, and you’d just prefer to start with January’s stone. It’s up to you.

These will just be listed month by month, so they are easy to find.

Like in the other color challenges, you want to model your sim with the stone’s colors in mind. You should also build their house with their stone’s color in mind.

1. January stone: GARNET

Color: Dark Red

Garnets have a high refractive index, which causes them to look as if they are emitting light. Due to this phenomenon, travelers during the crusades would carry them to ward off evil. The stone represents Faith, Love and Constance.

Traits: Good, Ambitious, Cheerful

Goals:

- Complete the Soulmate aspiration

- Complete the Law career as a judge.

- Must maintain career until death (meaning no retirement, quitting, or being fired).

- Must have at least 2 kids after the soulmate aspiration is fulfilled.

- All children must be raised with all green character values and no lower than Bs in school.

2. February stone: AMETHYST

Color: Purple

The word Amethyst comes from the Greek word, amethystos, meaning “not drunken.” This comes from a myth where Dionysus was so enraged, he vowed his wrath on the next human he saw, which was a young woman, Amethystos. To “save” this woman, Artemis turned her to stone (note to self, don’t ask Artemis to save you ever, because her track record sucks). Dionysus calmed at seeing the stone’s beauty, and poured his wine on it, giving the stone it’s purple color. In more recent centuries, amethysts have been associated with piety and rank in the Catholic Church, as bishops are given amethysts when they are appointed.

Traits: Genius, Bookworm, Snob (If you have Snowy escape, replace one of these with Proper).

Goals:

-Complete the Knowledge - Renaissance Sim aspiration.

-Complete the Education Career as a Professor.

-Can not go to bars or nightclubs

-Max out Logic, Writing, and a musical skill (Violin, Guitar, Piano, or Singing)

-Can never marry or enter into an official dating relationship; HOWEVER must have at least 1 kid at some point to continue the legacy. This can be through adoption, which is more likely if you want to play pure piety or you have an Ace sim in mind, and the adoptee must be a child or teen. The other option is through secret woohoos if you want to play the more historically accurate, seedy way. **If you are playing with Risky Woohoos, you can have max 2 kids living with you. All others children must be removed from the house and into a Townie’s home once they become toddlers.

3. March stone: AQUAMARINE

Color: Light Blue

Due to aquamarine’s sea-like color, they’ve long been associated with traveling and the sea. Sailors used to put them under their pillows to calm themselves. They are said to inspire peace and ward off poisons.

Traits: Loves Outdoors, Glutton, Loner

Goals:

-Complete Angling Ace aspiration.

-Eat out of the trash 5 times without getting sick.

-Have an aquarium with 10 fish.

-Catch a vampire squid. ** Or if you have Island Living, you must become a mermaid.

-Must eat and learn to make Pufferfish Nigiri.

4. April stone: DIAMOND

Color: White/Silver

Diamond is the hardest stone on Earth, and is often associated with wealth and treasures. The word diamond comes from the greek word adamas, meaning unconquerable. They are the most popular of the stones, and so recently have been “Lab Grown.”

Traits: Ambitious, Insider, Perfectionist

Goals:

-Complete the Scientist career.

-Complete Leader of the Pack aspiration.

-Find all the crystals.

-Must clone a diamond.

-Become best friends with Judith Ward and have a framed selfie with her in your house.

-Date/marry someone in the Style-influencer career.

5. May stone: EMERALD

Color: Dark Green

Emeralds are an old stone, first mined in ancient Egypt. Cleopatra was known to wear them frequently. They are said to symbolize fertility, wisdom, and Spring. It’s also said to heal heartbreak.

Traits: Jealous, Romantic, Materialistic

Goals:

-Master Gardening skill.

-Date and 100% romance a politician, then break up with them.

-Have at least 3 kids from multiple partners (each must have reached 100% romance first).

-Breed a frog worth over $100

-Must complete Fabulously Wealthy aspiration

-Does not marry, UNLESS you have Strangerville, and can marry an Officer in the Military Branch. However, when they die, so does your sim.

6. June stone: PEARL

Color: White/Cream

Pearls are created by oysters and are considered the “perfect” gem, as it needs no man-mad alterations. Pearls are often attributed to wisdom through experience, as well as innocence and fertility.

Traits: Childish, Perfectionist, Family-oriented

Goals:

-Must have 5 kids before becoming an adult.

-Must complete the Curator aspiration.

-Must master 10 skills. ** If you are using Tiny House perks, 15 skills.

7. July stone: RUBY

Color: Bright Red

Rubies are well known for their blood-red color, earning their association with health and vitality. They are also symbols of love, passion, and prosperity.

Traits: Self-Assured, Romantic, Self-Absorbed

Goals:

-Complete Serial Romantic aspiration.

-Master Cooking, Athletic, and Charisma skills.

-Complete Doctor Career.

-Must Woohoo at least once in each: Closet, Jacuzzi, Observatory, Bush, Spaceship, Lighthouse, Pile of leaves, Shower, Coffin.

8. August stone: PERIDOT

Color: Light Green

Peridot is the stone of compassion, bringing health and peace to emotions and the mind. It inspires eloquence, creativity, and good cheer.

Traits: Creative, Vegetarian, Goofball

Goals:

-Complete the Painter Career.

-Master Painting, Photography, and Handiness skills.

-Paint 5 Masterpieces.

-Craft a bathtub of excellent quality.

-Complete Painter Extraordinaire aspiration.

9. September stone: SAPPHIRE

Color: Royal Blue

With the most famous sapphires being Princess Diana’s iconic engagement ring and The Heart of the Ocean in Titanic, it’s now wonder Sapphires hue long been associated with nobility and power. The stone symbolizes strength, loyalty, and focus through self-discipline.

Traits: Materialistic, Genius, Insider ** If you have snowy escape, Proper takes place for Materialistic.

Goals:

-Complete the Law Career as a Private Attorney.

-Complete the Mansion Baron aspiration.

-Must start a club with Wealthy requirement ($30,000+). *If you start a fraternity/sorority in University, it counts if wealthy is listed as a requirement.

-Max out Charisma, Logic, and Writing skills.

-Must marry another club leader.

-Must get Gold in Wedding Social Event, and pay full $1750. Minimum of 10 guests.

-Must have a son. (He does not HAVE to be the continuation of the Legacy, but he can if you want. Also, if you have a born daughter, but decide to transition her, that does not count. Since it’s a click of a button without game mechanic influence, it’s kind of cheating. HOWEVER, if you decide your born son should transition, it still counts. This is mostly to take the steps during pregnancy to make a boy (since we’ve all watched others influence for a girl 1000x), That or to keep going until “the odds are in your favor.”)

10. October stone: PINK TOURMALINE

Color: Pink

Pink Tourmaline, also known as October rose, represents humanity, sympathy to others, and humanitarian work. It’s believed to carry the virtue of love that is unconditional, offering comfort to children and lasting friendships.

Traits: Unflirty, Gloomy, Outgoing

Goals:

-Complete the Politician career as a Charity Organizer.

-Complete Friend to the World aspiration.

-Adopt 2 kids (Do not have to be legacy continuation).

-Max out friendship/be best friends with 4 sims before becoming an Adult. The friendship must be maintained throughout life.

-Have a rose garden.

-Write 5 Children’s books.

-Volunteer with family 5 times.

*If you get the pop-up asking to donate to charity, you must if you have the money.

11. November stone: CITRINE

Color: Dark Yellow (almost Gold)

Citrine’s yellow stone radiates happiness, creativity, and wealth. Named for it’s citrus like color, it’s no wonder it’s the stone for a month known for it’s food. Citrine is known also as the Merchant’s stone for it’s golden color.

Traits: Cheerful, Foodie, Creative

Goals:

-Complete Culinary Career.

-Complete Culinary aspiration.

-Master Cooking and baking skills.

-Own a fruit and vegetable garden with every possible fruit and veggie in your game.

-Own a Bakery or Restaurant.

-Cook an Excellent quality Grand Meal.

-Learn 10 Food Stall recipes.

12. December stone: Turquoise

Color: Blue/Green (Teal)

Turquoise is an odd one. In European cultures, it’s the stone of friendship and attracts money and luck, but is also frequently used in Evil Eye talismans. Historically, Montezuma II gifted these gems to Cortez, the Spanish Conquistador. The Apache used turquoise as well, as a charm on their bows for better aim.

Traits: Evil, Outgoing, Kleptomaniac

Goals:

-Max out Mischief and Charisma skills.

-Complete the Criminal Career.

-Complete Public Enemy aspiration.

-Start a Kleptomaniac club.

-Steal an object worth $10,000

-Marry someone with the Good trait, and cheat on them 5 times.

HEY FOLKS! So yeah that took forever and I have four more prompts. Anon, I do apologize greatly for how long this took. Going to school in your country’s top university apparently means no time for anything else eyyy (I’m dying someone punch college in the face for me). Anyway aaaa I hope you still enjoy it even if took so long. Love y’all!

Feelings of the Mind, Thoughts of the Heart

Logan would rather fade than admit that he was this close to breaking.

He didn’t mean the kind that made his face heat up or his nostrils flare while his taut knuckles shook at his side and his teeth clashed with each other. Though he might have just preferred that. Unfortunately when Logan said “breaking,” he meant it in a way that left an uncomfortable mini-hurricane wreaking havoc within his ribcage while he tried his hardest to contain it inside.

Logan’s entire frame shook from the effort it took to maintain his composure in front of his fellow sides; not that they were paying attention in the first place, anyway. He didn’t really quite understand why he was having such a reaction right now when this blatant disregard for him, this… this ignorance was something he encountered every single day.

And so he left.

He was willing to bet that no one even noticed him sinking out. If they did, They probably would have just chalked it off to his reputation for having such a short fuse. He could barely make out the room around him as he blindly made his way towards the bed; the tears welling up in his eyes doing nothing to help his vision. He never remembered the bed being that far from his door before, nor his floor being carpeted and soft enough that it silenced his footsteps, but that was the least of his concerns.

If he could scold himself, he would. He felt pathetic and weak and emotional and disgusting as he closed his eyes and released the contents of his tear ducts the second he came into contact with the unrealistic softness of the bed. Eyes still wrenched shut, Logan leaned forward, desperate to find any form of solace or comfort; or at the very least anything he could use to muffle his cries. He felt very much like the polar opposite of logic as his damp forehead finally came into contact with an unidentifiable something, his glasses pushing uncomfortably against the frame of his eyes and the bridge of his nose.

His vision stayed dark as he forced himself to take any semblance of logic he could. He clasped a hand over his mouth as he buried his face into the smooth, fragrant fabric of this… pillow? Curtain? Blanket? Sheet? Stuffed toy? He wasn’t exactly certain. All that mattered was that he was Logan. Logical, calculated, reserved, put-together, proper, objective Logan; and crying was not something the embodiment of logic should be doing. So he stayed there doing his best to muffle his cries, never daring to open his eyes. He hiccupped, gasped, and heaved in the lowest volume he could. He fisted his hands on the sheets below him and held his mouth as tight as he could.

Logan tried remembering methods of calming an individual down. They could point out all his errors, but he would never allow them to take his identity from him. He scoured the filing cabinets of his mind ‘till he found a suitable suggestion. Focus. He needed to focus. Logan zeroed in on the feeling of the cloth in his hand. He let it slide through his fingers as he crumpled it, allowing his fingertips to recognize the material -- satin. Wait… satin? His sheets weren’t satin. His sheets were cotton. The thin kind of cotton that felt cool against his skin, comfortable and not all at once.

He internally winced as a particularly loud sob pushed past his lips, and so he put his focus back on the softness he was leaning on. It simultaneously felt all too cold but oh, so warm. It smelled of flowers; of chrysanthemums and daffodils swaying along a gentle breeze. He took the hand on his mouth away and placed it on the material in front of him. He rubbed the cloth on his fingertips and identified it as...silk. But that… didn’t make sense. Not at all. As he brought up hypotheses in his head and sifted through possibilities, he felt a little pinprick of dread. He looked back on all the little pieces. The carpeted floor, the distance of the bed, the satin sheets and the silky material of--

All the thoughts died down like a flat-lining cardiogram when he felt a tentative hand rub against his back.

Logan dared to lift his forehead off the comfortable something to open his eyes, breath hitching in the process, and all he saw was red. There were many, many shades of red. There was maroon, rose, cherry, garnet, scarlet, currant, and a whole variety more that probably didn’t even have proper names. But Logan recognized the rich crimson of this red all too well; knew how the familiar color matched perfectly with the smoothness of the silk. He’d be an imbecile if he didn’t recognize Roman’s sash by now.

And maybe he already was, considering he made it this far without realizing he sank down into the wrong room. And maybe he was more than just an imbecile for forgetting that Roman had not been summoned for this session, and that’s why he wasn’t up there with the others at the moment. Maybe he was positively beyond an imbecile if he’d been cryi-- trying to stop himself from crying against Roman that entire time.

Logan shot up, consequentially bumping Roman’s hand away, his probably red eyes lookin at the prince’s own wide irises, creased forehead, and damp sash through fogged up spectacles.

“Roman! I-- I deeply apologize. I had not realized-- I should’ve checked first-- It was faulty of me to sink down into the wrong room I apologize greatly, I--”

His stream of words and possibly his airflow were cut off by the same hand coming to rest on Logan’s shoulder and Roman’s eyes looking back at him with such an indistinguishable amount of emotion locked up inside the hues of his iris.

“Logan, it’s okay. I don’t mind. Really.”

He… what? He didn’t mind what?

“I-- I don’t understand--”

Roman’s brows only furrowed further and the hand squeezed his shoulder just the slightest bit harder. “Logan. Let go.”

For a long stretch of time they simply sat facing each other, one cross-legged on the bed and the other with his knees folded in; waiting for… anything to happen. But nothing needed to happen because the sheer weight of Roman’s words digging into Logan’s chest and the warmth of his hand seeping through his black polo was enough to break cracks into the meticulously put up walls around his heart.

It started with a singular sob and a hand unconsciously flying to his mouth. When Roman gently took that hand off Logan’s lips and held it within his own, the walls crumbled down.

This cry was far from the soft, held-back sobs from minutes ago. This one was loud, messy, hoarse, pitiful, and ugly. Before he knew it, his eyes were back closed as he shuddered and snivelled before the fanciful side who was more than willing to take the logical side in his arms.

Roman scooted closer to Logan, allowing him to melt and break within the embrace, both uncaring for the mess it’ll leave on the prince’s clothes. He continued to run his hands in circles on Logan’s back, making every hicc and whimper heard. It terrified Logan, honestly; opening up to someone like this, making every vulnerability known and presenting his lowest points for all the world, or Roman in this case, to see. The terror was suffocating, the shame was unbearable, and the regret was overwhelming, but Logan couldn’t stop the tears even if he tried.

A long, soft, gentle shush came from Roman as one of his hands lightly set on the back of Logan’s head; his fingers absentmindedly playing with the strands. The shush soon turned into a low hum, and Logan found himself drowning in the waves of Roman’s voice. He recognized the tune, even as he bawled the eyes out of his muddy brain. It was a piece by Chopin-- Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2. The dynamics and the anatomy of the piece often took Logan’s breath away as it did, but something about the fact that it was Roman, Roman who always seemed to strike every chord and make anything sound infinitely more pleasing made the composition sound like an entirely different thing. It wasn’t perfect, no; as the human voice can never truly replicate the delicate sounds of the piano. But the lullaby-esque hum still resonated just as sweetly in Logan’s mind and sent ripples of comfort in his chest that spread to the rest of him.

And when the last sigh finally left Logan’s lungs, and he finally had the energy to lift his head back up to meet the prince’s eyes once more, he found he felt lighter than he ever did before. He thought maybe that’s what releasing approximately months or years worth of locked up sentiments within an hour did to an individual. Perhaps that hypothesis could be put on hold ‘till another opportunity.

Later that day they’d talk about that. They’d discuss the sheer ridiculousness of Logan stumbling into the wrong room, Logan mistaking Roman for a stuffed toy, and Roman letting all of it happen without complaint. They’d talk, share, and open up about insecurities, sensitivities, exhaustion, and frustration. They’d exchange “thank you’s,” “sorry’s,” but also laughter and banter. Later in the day they’d take a long, much-needed walk in the imagination while they poked fun at the other sides and named every creature they encountered and every flower they walked past by.

But for now they were here, in Roman’s room, with a tissue box being handed over by a Roman who had a hint of a genuine smile grazing his lips to a swollen-eyed Logan whose face was caked with dry tears.

For now, Logan was glad he stumbled into the wrong room. For now, Logan allowed himself to be a little less than who he was.

For now, Logan allowed himself not to think, but to feel.

Hello Garnet!!

I'm so excited for this question because music plays such a big part in my writing process, thank you for asking! I use it as a means to get the right mood, but I also enjoy matching lyrics to emotions of the characters.

I made a Spotify playlist (and a playlist commentary) for the story -- there are a few key songs that I listened to as I was writing it: Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop; Can You Stay; Anchor; This is How You Fall in Love; and Little Death. The others were songs that fit the narrative well so they were added later.

The hardest part to write from an emotional standpoint was the confession -- I have to tell you that when I was writing the part where Jean confesses and he thinks reader doesn't return it, I was listening to Anchor and I cried at least three times writing that scene. My heart just hurt for him after what he'd been through with the breakup with Mikasa and missing his best friend.

As far as writing itself, the part I struggled with was when Jean was crafting the bracelet -- I had a very clear image in my head of the scene, the shells, how it should look when it was finished... but explaining how he made it without getting into boring craft details wasn't fun. That's when I decided to just simplify it and ask my son to make some art for me XD

Why Lapis and Pearl Could Work As A Great Pairing

It is without a doubt that most people agree that Lapis and Pearl would do absolutely anything for Steven. Maybe not anything as Lapis jumped off to the nearest solar system to get away from conflict, but he is in fact the one person she would indefinitely pull out extra stops for (ie; willing to indulge befriending Peridot, live on and try earth, go into the ocean once more, etc) . But I do not think that would be the one of the driving forces between their relation but it might be one of the factors to goad them into trying and befriending each other. And perhaps…. More.

Similarities On a surface level you can perhaps glean several similarities, perhaps similar shadow and body type, sasuke pointing hair… And then another layer and find their personalities are vastly different. Pearl is very educated, prefers order, dramatic, emotional, enjoys engaging in combat, very forgiving (ex; is quick to forgive Peridot once she actually makes the amends to not call her an object), and does her best to make up for mistakes (ex; several episodes of making it up to Garnet).

Lapis is very lazy and blase, the barn she and Peridot have formed together has no sense of order and moreso chaos, she instantly flies at the first sight of conflict, is the least forgiving gem out there (ex; holds it against the crystal gems for pretty much the entirety of the series, and Peridot goes lengths and miles to try and get Lapis forgive her and still is unable to and it takes Steven to intervene and scold her to make an attempt), and honestly? Lapis hardly ever apologizes for her mistakes versus Pearl. She shows signs of guilt but she never really apologizes to Peridot for anything she’s done to her nor Steven nor… Well, really anyone else, except in Future.

But that aside, it’s when you think about their more lighthearted sides and trauma is where most of their similarities lie.

Hobbies

As off as it sounds, it’s fairly essential in pretty much any relationship to cross over a few hobbies, even if you don’t share everything, it often all starts with something along those lines. And Pearl and Lapis share a huge chunk of their hobbies, believe it or not.

Both Lapis and Pearl definitely enjoy reading, Pearl being the educational beast she is and Lapis probably enjoys the relaxed activity. In fact their genres might be even similar as Lapis and Pearl enjoy reading odd textbooks (ex; The hairstyles book for Lapis, and the engineering book for Pearl) and both enjoy dramas (albeit, perhaps this might be different) like Camp Pining Hearts and Pearl was willing to write a play and overseer one in Jamie’s case. This perhaps is b-level canon however, in the comic issue Camp Pining Play, Lapis is willingly engaging in participating and acting out in a play, she even enjoys it.

If given incentive of enjoying the subject already, Lapis is willing to perhaps enjoy the drama of things along with Pearl.

Both enjoy singing, if we’re going off Lapis was previously like other Lapis, that would mean singing and dancing is looked down upon on her caste. So the fact she even makes the attempt to do so in Distant Shore means she’s practicing in it, and if we want to add another layer of it, in the game Unleash the Light, one of Lapis’s key items is the Crying Breakfast Friends Sing-Along. And who else enjoys karaoke? Pearl (ie; the commercial karaoke). Also Lapis does it in Future so like if you want canon material it’s right there in Why So Blue.

This is a bit of a stretch but it’s clear that Lapis enjoys the arts which her participation in the class and what the heck else she does with Peridot in the barn, and Pearl has at the very least has experience in it. (ex; the drawing she makes, despite her humble opinion, makes it clear she’s done it before, in fact I’m willing to bet she even painted that fucking painting of Rose Quartz) It perhaps could lead to some more experience and artworks together if you know what I mean…

Casting that aside, it’s clear the two have a main stream of things to enjoy together should they choose to versus some other couples. (And different ones should they choose to introduce the other, Pearl with baking and sword fighting and Lapis with farming and flying, etc)

Traumas

Now this is the important part, I’m willing to argue they both can share extremely similar and relate to each other’s problems. They just have vastly different ways of coping with it, or well… They both have some similarities there as well, but we’ll address that in the next paragraph-ish.

But the biggest one? Both miss their homeworld. Dearly.

In fact it’s the driving force for Lapis’s introductory episodes and one of Pearl’s where she tries to get Steven into a rocketship back to her home. Both are ancient and dusty as fuck, or well, at least heavily implied to be ancient with the fact of Pearl commenting she learned the sword when she was only ten thousand years old (Sworn to the Sword iirc), the war was six thousand which implies Pearl learned before it. And Lapis, it’s merely conjecture however the fact that Lapis isn’t a vegetable after and still has a strong sense of identity after being in the mirror for 4 thousand years says something (ie; My name is LAPIS LAZULI!), the likely conclusion is the fact it’s because that’s not even close to how old she is. It’s only a fraction of her lifetime, which means both are… Well, old as hell. And even more likely? They come from the same ‘homeworld’ unlike Peridot or Amethyst who were made after and Garnet who has herself.

The second one is the one both of them likely have their divisive opinions on, especially as they were from opposing sides of it, is that they were both part of the War.

Both obviously have their trauma’s from it, as shown as Pearl in ‘A Single Pale Rose’ she’s still traumatized over the thousands of shattered gems (which is essentially corpses to her) she was forced to witness right after the war, and Lapis being forced to watch inside the mirror as everyone condemns her to being a crystal gem. I’m willing to bet she saw everyone die while inside the thing as well. As well as considering Lapis never really got over anything as she was gonna literally yeet herself away at the mere IDEA of the war… Well, who else could help her but another person who knows the horrors as well? And Pearl has experience as she had a support system unlike Lapis who got worse and worse purely just by being herself.

Moving on as I don’t have a cool and smooth transition... This might be a bit of a stretch, but the last thing they both share very heavily over is the fact both were objectified.

Pearl was born to be an object, whereas Lapis was forced to become one, the mirror. And both consistently fight over the fact throughout most of the series. In the movie, the thing that makes Pearl remember herself is the freedom to be herself, and when she returns to her homeworld she’s forced to be reminded of her place when she talks to Holly Blue and returns to Steven in the final season. Lapis is obviously shook over it and holds it against the fact she always feels like she’s being used, (‘[...] AND YOU CAN’T KEEP ME TRAPPED ANYMORE!’) she longs for a safe place and to be free just as well just as Pearl does and the freedom to express herself (ie; her art). And who else but Pearl----- *coughcouhgcough*

Differences

I covered this in the first part where it's obvious the two have very vast differences when it comes to their personalities. But I find it important to have differences as both have something to bring to the table with their differences, no? Another essential part of a working couple.

And to quickly cover what I had before, their personalities. Pearl is literal and Lapis is sarcastic, Pearl is outwardly emotional and sobs and Lapis moodily and angrily exists, so on and so forth. How does this work? It’s also one of the hardest parts of their relationship, should they ever try it out because one of their biggest differences, is one of their flaws in a relationship as proven over and over.

Pearl is all give and no take, and Lapis is all take and no give. Which is a mix for a toxic relationship, as Pearl would constantly be giving to Lapis as Pearl’s entire worth as shown in her previous relation was all about what she would give to Rose, or else she was nothing. Even by the end of the main series she still needs to be reminded she’s still something without her. And Lapis’s emotional baggage? Let’s face it, Lapis is selfish and it’s all about her. She’s angry? She’s gonna fuck you up (ie; Jasper and the two Lapis), Lapis doesn’t want to deal with war? She doesn’t even think twice about what Peridot wants, and jumps away despite Steven calling out towards her.

But, but, but, but… It’s also a mix for something amazing as after their development, they’re kind of the perfect people to call each other out. In theory of course should they communicate.

Lapis would teach Pearl to be a little more selfish and care about her own needs, whereas Lapis needs constant reminders to actually take notice about what others want and feel (ex; the way she immediately rushes in and notices Steven’s expression at the last moment). It’s clear that Pearl isn’t willing to be treated that way should Lapis do so (ex; the way she snapped back at Peridot and towards Holly Blue) and Lapis upon caring enough? Is in fact willing to try to do better (ex; Why so blue, and Alone at Sea). It’s just that Lapis is farther behind on maturity (considering she ran away and panics instantly twice in a row). They can strike a perfect balance should they put the effort to do so, which would lead to the possible second problem they might have and would need to work through.

And the second difference the two of them have?

Fusion.

It’s the one trauma Lapis has that Pearl wouldn’t understand, and, it’s something Pearl clearly finds something addicting or to use above others. In fact she needed a crash course on it with the string of episodes of what she did to Garnet. Because Pearl is the kind of person who would desperately try so hard to not repeat the same mistake, she’s probably she’s willing to wait a millennia about it or even be fine with never fusing with Lapis. Because consent is important, but I think because of her actual experience with good and loving fusions? She might not be actually be a bad candidate for helping Lapis should she ever want to try again.

The Biggest Conflict

Now, for the biggest problem of the relationship. Uh, let’s be real here…. Despite all these arguments and nice claims and all.

Lapis doesn’t like Pearl, at all. Perhaps she even holds the biggest grudge against Pearl because Pearl was the one who literally carried her around in the mirror for a good chunk of time, doesn’t even bother to learn who she was, and even was willing to bubble her and trap her further. And Lapis probably has incentive to keep it against her for purely that fact as she was holding it against Peridot for the same fact, except for the fact Pearl has made zero amends to apologize for it. So why would Lapis ever want to talk to her?

You might consider the possibility of Steven but it’s not his job to make them friends. The only thing the two of them would do for him is to pretend to be friends, as shown in ‘Hit the Diamond’ and ‘Gem Harvest’ but otherwise, there’s clear distaste from Lapis’s side (ie; The New Crystal Gems) and her consistent ‘fuck the crystal gems’ attitude from the beginning. Maybe for him they might try something however I doubt it’s enough.

Regardless, I do believe an apology is due on both sides whenever they are ready. And that would be the start of perhaps their romantic relationship shenanigans which I consistently desire. Also I’m a slut for tense relationships to friendship to lovers if people would just---

Anyway I think there’s a lot more material for them to work with and they might actually be a pretty awesome couple

Final Fantasy IX Review

Year: 2000

Original Platform: PlayStation One

Synopsis:

Zidane Tribal is a thief whose troupe is hired to kidnap princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII. The world is in the midst of a war, and Garnet is pleading with her mother, Queen Brahne, to stop it.

Gameplay:

Final Fantasy IX returns to more traditional gameplay. Active Time Battle. Each character has a unique ability. Summons come in the form of “eidolons.” Limit Breaks are now called Trance Modes.

There’s also a mini card game called Tetra Master – which is super fun. Final Fantasy VIII also had a card game named Triple Triad, which I think gamers like more, but I never touched it.

I have very fond memories of Final Fantasy IX, both in gameplay and story. I devoured this game throughout my entire junior year of college. As such, I associate this game with many fond memories. I finished this game on literally the final day of junior year as people were packing up to leave.

This game as often been referred to as the prime example of Final Fantasy – again, both in gameplay and story. It has the highest metacritic score of all the Final Fantasy games. Yet at the same time, it’s sorely underrated. Not many people talk about it.

The difficulty wasn’t hard to grasp – at least for me. I didn’t die until the penultimate battle. I would suggest it as an option for a beginner.

Graphics:

Imagine Final Fantasy VII but way more defined. Square returned to the cartoonish world and left the realistic world from Final Fantasy VIII alone. The graphics and style are awesome. Each town is so pretty and cozy.

Final Fantasy IX wraps up the series for the PlayStation One – and it’s a blast. It went all out with the system’s capabilities.

Story:

Final Fantasy IX goes back to the basics after Final Fantasy VIII. It’s also quite refreshing. Final Fantasy VIII was written so bland and without depth, whereas Final Fantasy IX is alive with colors, characters and stories. It has the most diverse cast in the series – just look at these dudes:

All of them have something to offer. The fan favorite is typically the black mage Vivi – whose backstory is memorable for the philosophical questions it poses.

The story is a perfect example of how tropes can still feel refreshing because of how the story is told. I like how the story’s biggest themes deal with the nature of a soul. Out of all the Final Fantasy games, the existential crisis here hits the hardest, like a thesis for a philosophy class.

Zidane hearkens back to the friendlier protagonists rather than the standoffish, brooding types seen in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII. However, while Bartz from Final Fantasy V was a goofy drifter and Locke from Final Fantasy VI was a charming rogue, Zidane introduces the cheeky and H O R N Y protagonist. This can make you roll your eyes as he constantly tries to hit on the main female lead, Garnet. This one scene in particular didn’t age well.

The romance between him and Garnet is the exact opposite of the romances in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII. Instead of the female lead flirting with the male lead, being the one to change his life, the male lead flirts with the female lead. Zidane's role as a romantic is to “show her the world” á la Aladdin and Jasmine. Zidane is a devil-may-care thief with his band of rogues, wishing to show Garnet an exciting life by his side.

It was unclear to me at the time why Final Fantasy IX fell into the more underrated side of Final Fantasy. In retrospect, Final Fantasy VII still took the world by storm, and Final Fantasy VIII still came off as a lot “cooler”. Some critics complain how the main villain, Kuja, is the least threatening villain of the entire series. Kuja’s bishonen level is over 9,000. Look at this guy. He belongs on the cover of Vogue or something.

Gamers at the time probably felt that Final Fantasy IX wasn’t as amazing or intriguing since it returned to the tropey elements of the series, after we had seen two big games set in a modern technological world.

But like I said, Final Fantasy IX manages to use these tropes and make them entertaining. Vivi’s character arc? Oh man. I really don’t want to ruin it. It’s that good. They say Final Fantasy IX is the closest to how the developers originally envisioned the world of Final Fantasy. The definitive version of Final Fantasy.

Music:

Surprisingly, the music is the weakest part of the game. When I thought about what to write about for the music section for this game, I stared into space as crickets chirped in my head. I can only think of the title theme (”The Place I’ll Return to Someday”) and “Melodies of Life”, another pop song.

I like “You’re Not Alone” but I didn’t pay attention to it until I listened to the orchestrated version on the Distant Worlds album.

The answer then hit me as to why the soundtrack flew under my radar – the score takes an almost purely instrumental route, drawing inspiration from classical music. Most of the inspiration is specifically from medieval music, given the setting of the game. It’s not a bad thing, but Nobuo Uematsu’s signature progressive rock style is notably absent in everything except the battle theme. As such, nothing struck out at me. Nothing told me, “WOW. You just HAVE to listen to THIS!” I hate to say it, especially because Uematsu himself has stated that this soundtrack is his favorite work and the one he is proudest of.

The next time I play this game, I will pay more attention to the soundtrack.

Notable Theme:

As I said before, I associate Final Fantasy IX with fond memories of my junior year in college. “Melodies of Life” gives me all the feels. It has that late ‘90’s slow-dance feel.

Verdict:

Great game. Underrated. I can sum it up by saying - it doesn’t do anything new per se – it just shines as a Final Fantasy game using all of the series’ classic elements. It doesn’t do anything crazy, but it creates a lush vibrant world of pure medieval fantasy, and its characters go through a lot of depth.

Direct Sequel?

Nope.
