"Blue Crisp Autumn at Walcot Mill"
Oil painting 24" x 18"
"They said the ghost of the old farmer would stalk around the buildings, move a tool here or there or sweep the dust across the floor leaving the broom leaning at some new point along the wall. On the outside, the stark white-washed barn presented a range of colors on the bright neutral surfaces of the building. In the dance of shadows, the October light was speaking in colors. It gave no hint of the inside where the shadows were deep and rich and gave room for your imagination to roam. . ."

Silent Night Bobcat at Indian Lake
Number eleven in the series shows a full moon rising behind a red lynx nestled in the crook of a buttonwood tree. The sighting of a shy lynx is as fleeting as the gloaming when the light of day fades to give way to the veil of night and the shadows become iridescent and shadows fill with light.

“Buddy Rich on Fire”
"When I look think of Buddy Rich on fire at the drums it reminds me of why I create art. His joyful intensity on the drums is how I feel on a good day, when an invisible voice seems to have whispered into my ear, and said Go!, and the brush or the pen swings free, without restraint, without limits. I remember hearing and seeing him on the Johnny Carson Show. His was a wild abandon of the soul, a divine madness of creation. You can see it in his face, in the explosive expression of the boy artist never grown up. The joy was palpable and Johnny who was a drummer, loved to have him on the show for just that reason. He would always bring the house down."

"The Pine Barrens"
"Along the low ridge just before the path reached the creek there was this stand of red and white pines tightly packed causing the air to hush in the needles and drop to a silent calm at ground level. If there was ever a point along the path that would raise the hair on the back of your neck this was the spot, so silent you just had to stop and stand still waiting for any sound like the friendly chirp of a bird or a squirrel gnawing on a nut, but there was nothing. . ."

Silent Night Jack Pine RabbitI
I picked a good subject for a truly wintery Christmas night of 2022 along the shores of Lake Michigan. Only a random rabbit in its full winter coat might be out in the bitter cold of a Michigan Jack Pine forest on a night like this.

Burning Off the Fog
One of two paintings from my latest workshop in early August. This 16" x 12" acrylic painting on wood panel shows the view looking up toward the dunes from Oval Beach in Saugatuck. The clouds were fascinating. This is a small companion painting to a larger painting I am completing this week from a scene on Oval Beach from the same day.
