Bandai Gashapon Ringcolle! Tamagotchi Rings
Tumblr media
Tamagotchi is getting even more love from Bandai’s Gashapon! Gashapon is known for those iconic capsules that are loaded into a Gashapon machine where you insert your money, rotate the dial, and get a random prize. This iteration is a bit different as it involves Bandai’s Ringcolle! brand and different a distribution method. Bandai has created Tamagotchi Original rings in six styles which are identical to P1 shells. They even come in adorable packaging that looks just like the original Tamagotchi packaging from 1996 in Japan.
These rings won’t be available in Gashapon machines throughout Japan, but instead available on the Gashapon Online website starting on May 26th, 2023 for ¥400 including tax.

G-ROSSO Super Sentai stage show guide (7/2023)
Theatre G-Rosso is located within the theme park Tokyo Dome City. The theme park had a long history of Hero Shows running back to the 70s. The theatre was established in 2009 as a permanent indoor stage. There are 4 seasons each year with showings on weekends and holidays. Suidobashi station is a little closer than Korakuen/Kasuga subway. I visited it for the first time in July 2023.

TICKETING
G-rosso ticketing depends on which seasons really. Tickets should be plentiful for the first two seasons, especially S2/August when they show every day. S3 and S4 with the face actors might be harder but the show runs for 3 months too so it should be possible.
ticket types + availibility / show schedule
There are three classes of G-rosso tickets (single adult admission) :
Premium (¥2500): first 3 rows + special gift
General (¥1900): rest of the theatre
Free Seating (¥1500): same-day showings for the last 5 rows at the end of the theatre. cash only, vending machine at the door.
You can of course book online through a proxy (bypassing japanse phone verification) but I think you can save that fee especially if you're staying for more than a week in Japan. For S2, I was able to buy the last Premium ticket for the next day (Saturday), and there were enough general seats available. Can't say for sure the same applies to S3/4 with face actors. As a foreigner, the most convenient way is to buy a ticket is from the convenience store Family Mart. Find any store with the photocopier-looking machine and follow the instructions to choose the show times and pricing, pay with cash at the counter and the staff will print you a paper ticket. same go for photo ops and handshake.
(Free Seating vending machine, photo ops ticket)

CHOOSING A SEAT
The theatre is two stories high and you can see the seating plan here. I was in the third row mid-right. What surprised me was how close to the stage the first rows are, barely an arm's distance. At one point Kuwagata Ohger leaned on the railing of the first row. The actors would also walk up to interact with the audience.
I think if you want to enjoy the whole stage and not aiming at the special gift, you can skip the Premium ticket and get a few rows further back. Another recommended seat is Row L just between the two blocks. That's where Spider Kumonos descends UPSIDE DOWN from the sky right in front of your eyes.
If for some reason you g-rosso on a whim / sneaked it into the schedule, the free entry ticket is available only at the vending machine on-site with cash. It's designated to the last rows but staff aren't strict on you moving if the theatre is not crowded.
(view from middle block)
Tumblr media
PHOTO OPS & HANDSHAKE
as you'd've seen in commercials, you can pay extra to take a photo (with red only!) (¥1100) and shake hands (with all six) of the heroes (¥600) after the show. The tickets for those are available prior online and in convenience stores too, but if you ask the staff, they'll let you buy one with cash on an old-fashioned vending machine. Since it's my first time attending G-rosso, I did the whole package with birthday perks (no id checked).
A new backstage tour is available since August. Lottery ticketing required.
(merch haul)
Tumblr media
MERCH
The most iconic G-rosso exclusive merch is probably the hero hand light. I didn't really see a lot of kids holding it so I kinda forgot about it in the rush. the other true exclusive is a wooden plaque gashapon machine (¥300). There were booths for name badges for kids and you can get a bromide for ¥440. There was a cart selling DX toys and plushies. The special stuff is some toei online store acrylic stands, the muffler towel, cup and plate. Outside you'd find the food stall with collab items like popcorns and drinks with an original coaster.

REVIEW
As a kid's show the japanese won't be too difficult but I was so captivated by the action I wasn't really listening to the words. The plot is easy enough to follow though, and the website says an English pamphlet is available for borrowing (but I forgot to ask). It feels so professional compared to park stage shows but so tangible compared to tv. They make good use of the space with an under-stage pit/trampoline and the high ceiling with platforms and wires. my eyes were busy darting when the action was in one corner and then next. childhood wonder!!
leaving the theatre is a row of gashapon machines and a kids' play area with all the DX toys (:( no adults) and when you go up the escalator, on the side of the theatre entrance is a wall of pass hero show posters!
(i barely have any coherent notes about this) the plot is there's a cicada MOTW and he is brainwashed to make the earth's temperature rise and make evil clones of the team. Rita, raised in the land of snow, is bad at heat and went to sit in a corner and covered their head with the mantle. When facing their/Gira's evil clone, they said 'i'll just cut down both of them'. My notes said 'someday Rita is even gonna plead innocence for the bugs'. six of them roll call together with jeramie!! i was watching papillon-sama's fight style the whole time. and there were trampolines and flips and cartwheels and white spider man falling from the sky while the digital background zooms in and out and legit tears when we started cheering for the heroes. it's an experience okay.
(outside the theatre)

welcome to another episode of silver's merch mysteries!
remember those zoobles plush posts i made a few months ago? well i think i might turn it into a series on here, where i will post about obscure/unreleased merch that interests me. today we have the mystery of the spacy brothers tamagotchi friends figure.
tamagotchi friends was a very short lived figure line for the very short lived tamagotchi friends release in the us. they were released in 2014 and only at toys r us. some figures came in playsets, some in single packs, and there was one(?) pack that had 5 characters in it. some characters are harder to find now than others, yumecantchi being the rarest in my opinion since i rarely see her go up for sale. i loved this figure line and i got into the tamagotchi anime on the tail end of this release, meaning a lot of these figures were now super cheap because the line flopped in america. but one thing that i always thought was weird were the choices of characters they made figures of. main characters like memetchi and kuchipatchi didn't receive figures yet characters like harptchi got figures? very strange. however, a while ago, i stumbled upon this image:
Tumblr media
originally posted by tumblr user ashkeilolita in 2015, this image shows the collectors guide packaged with every tamagotchi friends release, with a few differences: kuchipatchi and spacytchi, two characters that did not receive figures, have figures shown on this guide. spacytchi replaces the character juilietchi and kuchipatchi replaces yumecantchi.
as i said before, this line did not do well in america and was forgotten about pretty quickly. so my first thought was "well, since this didn't do well, these are probably prototypes that were never released." but do you see the set below spacytchi? the "dream school classmates" set? that was released.
Tumblr media
here's an ebay listing from last year that hasn't sold. and there's another on ebay from this year that also hasn't sold. (probably because they're both over 80 bucks....)
so if these released, what about kuchipatchi and spacytchi? i have yet to see any photos of spacytchi or kuchipatchi online. it could be possible that they released but have little to no documentation online.
while making this post, i also thought that it may be possible that this set released because they are just variants of already existing figures with different faces. (julietchi and himespetchi are the exact same figures). i also noticed that i have never seen the single pack for mametchi online anywhere, so that leads me to believe only this set was released.
and again while making this post i went back to the original post from ashkeilolita, and i found a comment from user auronsgirl saying the following: Someone asked about these figures on the Tamagotchi Friends FB page. And they said they were figures they were planning on releasing but no stores wanted to pick them up to sell them. So they won’t be getting made and sold at all now.
so... i guess that solves that mystery :(.
BUT, maybe there are unreleased figures out there? kuchipatchi has plenty of figures, but spacytchi only has one (a rare gashapon) and his brothers don't have any. it sucks these didn't end up releasing, but i can kinda see why. i would rather tamagotchi made new characters like these rather than rereleases but oh well.
what did yall think? i wanna do more of these so let me know if you have any ideas for things i should look into!

Eyeshield 21 Tactics Mascots
Original tweet | Pre-order
Bandai has (finally) officially put these gashapon figures based on Hiruma's little chess-piece scale models up for pre-order.
The pre-order period has already started and ends Monday, Sept. 26th 23:00 (JST), with expected shipping in December 2022. Bandai may close pre-orders early if a certain quota is sold, so dates are subject to change.
More information for purchasing (from overseas) under the cut.
Bandai's website is heavily region-locked, so if you're not in Japan and aren't using a VPN with a Japanese server, you'll likely get redirected to the International Shipping Page of Doom trying to get to the actual pre-order webpage
These aren't available for direct intl. shipping, so a proxy purchasing service is needed to buy, unless you have friends living in Japan (I used Treasure Japan to buy these, but I've seen other proxies succeed too!)
For those of you who can't view the page, here's the information your proxy service will likely require:
URL: https://p-bandai.jp/item/item-1000177724/
Product name: アイシールド21 タクティクスマスコット
Price (per unit): 500円 (including tax; this is just under $4 USD as of writing this)
Purchases are (as far as I can find) only available through online gashapon, so you can't buy specific characters - the website will choose randomly when you buy and only tell you what you got afterwards. The chances of getting any one character are pretty much equal:

I would love to see your kiyo merchandise. I want to get some if my own, but it's hard as a lesbian to justify getting pretty boy merchandise and also without context he looks like a nazi which doesn't help. But let me gaze upon your shrine. I would like to see him.
;;;ok but only for you anon nobody else look
Tumblr media
added nagito for filler and clout - wasn’t a very planned purchase, but i came across a local seller and a very good deal, so here we are. it Is the nicest figure i own, the base and pose are both fantastic.
i’ve got the vivimus keychain - i’m really satisfied with the quality and design, but it’s pretty huge! i’m used to like, gashapon sized rubber straps, and the vivimus line is just reasonably bigger.
i also have the kiyo acrylic charm from the halloween themed stellamap cafe collab - generally speaking, stellamap cafe collabs are my favorites when it comes to v3 merch, because the illustrations are just SO cute. and it is no different this time!! i really like this one, and the reference to his execution is just, funny in a very morbid kinda way.
alsooo have two shinsai fancomics. i’m a huge fan of miu miura’s art (right) and this one’s holding up too - they portray emotions and horror so well, and they really did kiyo justice in this one. sadly they only have one other kiyo focused comic and i’m on the edge with picking that up because i’m not huge into the angie kiyo ship. they did a lot of komaeda/komahina focused comics though, and i’ll probably pick up a couple more of those in the future.
rou’s style is very different with a much heavier BL touch, but i liked the comic well enough for the ship. will probably pick part 2 up if i see it on a reasonable price in the future.
not pictured is stuff i was able to bag in recent months but is yet to arrive!!
Tumblr media
generally speaking, i’m not huge on suya chara, the illustrations are very hit or miss for me - but this drv3 lineup they did came out super cute imo, and i love this kiyo :’] i wasn’t looking for this one in particular but it popped up for a very good price.
Tumblr media
super excited for this one though!! i’ve been on the lookout for this doujinshi for a while. i couldn’t find much info about it online other than the sample images and a vague description, but the art seems gorgeous and i’m always up for gen kiyo stuff. there’s not a ton of it - most doujinshi understandably is either at least vaguely ship based or just porn, which is not the kind of thing i collect.
i am also trying SO hard to find the sanrio collab kiyo standee under 1000 yen, but no luck so far. fingers crossed, they are VERY cute.
as far as being a lesbian and hating kiyo’s fit goes - i completely feel you on both of those points!!!! being a lesbian and curating a collection that may involve pretty boy merch - my general rule of thumb has been only getting merch of gay people which. worked so far - though most of my collection is of girl characters (which is its own challenge entirely because this hobby comes with built in creepy male gaze bullshit). as a lesbian who relates to male characters but not on a level of attraction it’s really a niche.
also god, don’t get me started on kiyo’s outfit;;; there’s a reason i hadn’t drawn it proper despite having made fanart. i wouldn’t even mind the milita/bdsm inspiration, there’s an interesting cross-section to note between those sub-cultures as well if you wanna go there, but rui really just didn’t try. as much as i’ve looked at his silly outfit enough to distinguish it, it really gives a nazi vibe at first glance (which REMAINS stupid because it in no way ties into kiyo as a character. i’m ripping my hair out). either way though, if you dislike the outfit, there’s a fair amount of merch with alt outfits! (several of the graffart collabs and the sweets paradise collab comes to mind)

Work's been hell and there's a lot of shit in the world and I'm having one of those "I hate everything and everyone" sort of weeks.
So here's pics of recent Moomin gashapon I found. BF actually found this one and told me about it offhand, "Oh, I saw the Moomins you like at the gashapon by a store we passed earlier," and I was like !!! how could you wait till now to tell me x'D (He was smart to do so or I'd have gone straight there lol.) So we backtracked I bought these... it cost 900yen hahaha I'm an idiot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(that's stinky lying on his side in the sexy pose *wink*)
Was really happy to get Moomintroll and Little My. Wanted Snufkin of course... but guess what...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
today I got him ^^ They are cable accessories but I'm just gotta put them on a shelf :P
Found another Moomin gashapon at a restaurant I like, it's one where they are taking a nap "hiding" under something (a hat, or a wreath of flowers) but I didn't have enough 100yen coins. I will try next time I go if it's still there. But it's probably better just to buy the ones I want from online sellers... pricey but gashapon will be pricey no matter what, which is why I never buy them. Seriously, I bought these, but before that I only bought two gashapon in the last six years. Moomins are my weakness :P
(Digimon Adventure would be too but I never see any cute Digimon gashapon)
Looking at these silly toys makes me feel slightly better about all the Everything. even though they just made me spend money that could undoubtedly have been spend better elsewhere

hi i think awhile back you posted where you normally buy gashapon .. or i'm thinking of someone else so feel free to ignore this but if it was you do you mind linking the site again ?
hi ! i used to get gashapon from 'candysan' and that was where i recommended at the time, but this was around 5-6 yrs ago. when checking the site today, i don't see gashapon anywhere and they've switched to only candy subscription boxes. such a shame <: ( used to be a great spot for buying capsules internationally in terms of price & variety.
while i still like to keep up with what new series come out here and there, i'm not in the market 4 em any more so not sure if someone has since replaced that niche online effectively..sorry i couldn't be of more help for a current day vendor !

Gasshpon Vacation
---
Is it really the holiday season without family drama
It's almost Christmas time in Mt Komorebi and the long-estranged son of the Shin family has returned with his family in tow.
Yuri, the eldest of the grandchildren, watches as the tension between her uncle Yejun and grandfather unfolds.
---
I had been wrapping up a special holiday edition of “How to Spice Up Your School Uniform” try-on haul Livestream when I heard the doorbell ring and saw the unread message on my phone.
[Seohyun] Lookout. Dad and I are inbound. See you in 10!
“Shibal (씨발/Fuck),” I swore under my breath, quickly ended the stream and threw on something reasonable. To make a three-generational story short, my Uncle Yejun is the blackest of black sheep in our very traditional Korean family. Granted there are a few (I'm not the snowest white there is and my cousin Youngsol the snowboard model is no angel either) but my Uncle Yejun really pissed off my halmi and halbi (grandma and grandpa for you westerners).
My family is the founder of WestEnd Co; one of the leading export businesses in all of Japan. Yep, that WestEnd Co. The one that you order all of your books, electronics, and upgrade parts from online. Who do you think sends out all the free Hitz Earbuds? Anyway, WestEnd Co has been a family-run business for almost 75 years. Each time the CEO of the company retires, the eldest son of the next generation takes over. It's been like that for the whole of WestEnd Co’s history. Even the branch office in Seoul is headed by my halbi’s youngest brother and his sons. Next in line would have been my Uncle Yejun but he didn’t return home after attending university in America.
Home is Mt Komorebi; specifically the Wakaba district. My family has lived in this area for the past ten generations. Most have moved back to South Korea or elsewhere on the globe but some still live here. Two of my cousins' on my father’s side of the family live down the road, another cousin lives in Senbamachi, and Youngsol’s family had moved to Osaka after he graduated.
It's not as if it's odd that my Uncle went to university outside of the country. My halmi and halbi had three kids; my mother the eldest, Uncle Yejun, and Aunt Minso the youngest. All three of them went to university out of the country. My mother went to Cambridge in England where she met my father. My uncle and my aunt both went to university in Britechester (that’s somewhere in the states); Uncle Yejun went to Foxbury double majoring in business and technology, and Aunt Minso went to the University of Britechester for law.
The big difference between my mother and her siblings is that she came back. After my father proposed (with my halbi’s permission of course), Mom came back home to get married and to start a family, i.e. to have cute little baby me. My aunt seems like she plans to come back home when she’s done interning but my uncle continually refuses to come back. I think this is the first time he’s been back home since he left when he was still a teenager.
Uncle Yejun was expected to be groomed to take over from my halbi after he finished school. From what I know, he’s totally uninterested in running the family business. Right now my mother is the Vice President while my halbi is still the CEO. Almost every day I overhear my mother arguing with my halbi asking him when he is going to retire. He usually responds with some sort of grunting sound, basically meaning that he doesn't want to talk about it and he goes off to play the piano. The whole conversation makes my inner feminist rage rise. It’s not like my mother doesn't have an MBA from one of the best universities ever! I know my family is well soaked in traditions but it’s not like my mother is gonna have a “wild female mood swing” and sell the company. Like, okay boomer.
I lowkey understand why my uncle doesn't want to run the company, truly. If and that's a big if I have any sons I'd have no desire to have my children more or less chain ganged into joining the "family business" like their last name was Winchester. Honestly, it seems as if my uncle is doing better now that my halbi cut him off. Oh yeah, my halbi cut him off when it became clear that he wasn't coming back. To make this whole thing worse for my uncle he started a family with a "nyeon (년/whore) that he is still not married to”. Not my words. I’m just quoting my halbi. Let’s also not forget Uncle Yejun covered in tattoos that my halbi also disapproves of.
Basically, my halbi has disowned my Uncle more or less for living the life he wants for himself and has refused to talk to him for nearly my whole life. The only reason why I even met my cousin Seohyun was from a Christmas visit to my aunt's apartment when I was a kid. Aunt Minseo is G.O.A.T. She’s always snatched, so stylish, so smart, and a really great lawyer. The last time I visited we both got our hair dyed ginger (she kept her hair darker and short while I got mine ombre). My mom blew a gasket when I got home but at least my school didn’t make me change it back.
Aunt Minseo's also my favorite more or less down to the fact that I didn't know I had any other option until I met the rest of my family that Christmas. Both Seohyun and my Uncle came over for Christmas dinner. It had been my first time out of Japan to anywhere besides Korea. I had been hooked up on Christmas joy and barely paid any attention to the extra people opening presents. I'm never gonna forget how shocked I was meeting a little blonde-haired, white girl that speaks Korean and learning that I had more family in America!
As I raced down the stairs, I could hear the piano from the study. Good, that would mean my halbi was in the study playing the piano. The study was just off of the living room but behind doors so he wouldn’t see Uncle Yejun and Seohyun right away but he’d hear them eventually. I found my father talking to Uncle Yejun and Seohyun in the foyer. My father, the typical professor he is, was just commenting on Seohyun’s Korean when I walked up to join them, “Your Korean is very good but I think it hasn’t been that helpful on your first trip to Japan.”
Everyone laughed andEveryone laughed and Yejun simply said, “Didn't think about that one. Maybe the little one will learn Japanese. I'm sure Hoesung, our second eldest, will learn Japanese in a weekend. He's so smart. Smarter than me I think. Not that you aren't, sweetheart," he chuckled and then continued, "I probably could have been clearer on the 'where I grew up’ location when I told the kids where we were going on vacation.”
"They raised us speaking English and Korean at home and the first place they take us is Japan," Seohyun teased, making everyone laugh again and she came over to hug me. Our fathers busied themselves catching up with each other (Like what? They know each other?) so I pulled Seohyun to the side and asked her what was going on.
"Um, has your dad forgotten that our halbi mostly hates him?" I quietly asked in English. Both of our dads speak English but I exactly wasn't trying to keep our conversation from them.
"My parents brought us here for a pre-Christmas vacation. We've been here four days and my dad hasn't relaxed once. You should have seen him. The first day we were here he took us on a hike to an echoing cave. It was supposed to be a relaxing meditative walk but he was as jittery as if he had a Denkimushi in his shirt," she whispered back. "Yesterday night after dinner, I heard my mom say that my siblings and I at least deserve to know our grandmother so here we are."
"Why didn’t she come then? Halbi is going to lose his mind once he realizes…" I started to say but just then I realized that the piano had stopped playing. Seohyun had turned her attention to someone standing behind me and was beginning to bow as she introduced herself in Korean...

We went to Kyoto and Tokyo!!! It was truly lovely. People were friendly (and patient!), and it was so easy to get around.
Kyoto we of course mostly did temples and other famous spots since it was our first time - Kyoto Imperial Palace and Gardens, Fushimi Inari, Kyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji, Philosopher's Path, Nanzen-ji, Byodo-in, etc etc. People online were complaining about how overrun everything was, but we never experienced this (except near Senso-ji in Tokyo...). Even Fushimi Inari was fairly quiet, so we got lots of cool pics of the empty path. Granted we were very jet-lagged - 12 hour difference :( - so we usually showed up at like 8am to everything. I'm wondering if the time of year we chose (after monsoon season but before peak autumn leaf season) helped us here.
Tokyo was cool! We visited the KING at SEGA Joypolis in Odaiba, saw the Gundam, went to MANY crane game places and the massive gashapon place in Ikebukuro Sunshine City. Mostly ate tons of good food. In general, went to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Akihabara, Asakusa, Shimokitazawa, Odaiba, Ikebukuro and Nakano. There was also some large cultural festival happening all over Tokyo while we were there, so we got to see lots of cool demonstrations (aikido, mounted archery, dance groups) and events.
We did 6 days in Kyoto, which was perfect, and 7 days in Tokyo, which was a little too much city after a while. We will absolutely be going again, but probably doing less in Tokyo and travel a little further out instead.
Google Translate and Google Maps were all we needed to do pretty much anything, and everything EXCEPT the flights was very affordable.
