I am SO EXCITED for Tales of the Empire to come out but also…I’ve been writing a multi chapter fanfic about Barriss Offee becoming an inquisitor. Starting with her in the prison cell and being brought before the grand inquisitor by clones (It’s about her internal struggle and ultimately trying to leave the empire. I’m a perfectionist so I don’t know when im going to post it but if your interested in emotionally nuanced Barriss and lesbian Ahsoka lmk and I’ll try to push it out). So now I’m going to be a copy cat but I’ve had this idea for a while!!!

Like a Bantha
Cassian x Melshi oneshot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mostly fluff. TW suicidal ideation sort of. Not a fun time on Narkina Five.
——————————————————————————
Real, proper darkness. Cassian tried to remember it. The kind of dense blackness that made his eyes feel like they were seeing through static, the kind that invited him to rest his eyes and seek new sights in his dreams. When he was small, that sort of darkness scared him. He remembered looking out into the trees and fearing that he saw figures looming towards him, though that feeling of uneasiness was often remedied quickly by a reassuring word or touch from his first mother, his first father. He grew out of his fear for a time and felt brave, emboldened enough to offer that same reassurance to his sister when she made herself small in the night. He remembered his relationship to the dark changing that first night after they were gone, the thick layer of dust in the air from the mine doing nothing to help him distinguish what was a tree and what was a threat.
Now, in this cage of constant oppression, Cassian missed the darkness. The white and red lights lining the floor of the dorm constantly illuminated his mind, reminding him of where he was. The decision to keep them on round the clock must have been an intentional one, he thought. Even when his eyelids pressed together, the dull red permeated his vision and threatened to shock him. Thirty days in, it terrified him, sleeping as close to the inner wall of his cell as possible. Ninety days in, it entranced him, invited him to end his suffering.
“Keef,” he hears, just barely audible from across the floor, from Melshi’s cell. “Stop looking at the lights. They’ll worm their way into your head just the same as your number.”
“Right,” Cassian mutters. He’s thankful for the interruption from his own stream of thoughts, which had been roiling more intensely the longer he was entranced by the red glow, soon to become a rushing river that he wasn’t sure he’d be able to stay afloat in. Melshi had a habit of rescuing Cassian, even in this prison they were stuck in together.
“What’s keeping you up?” Melshi asked, gently.
“I keep trying to imagine that I’m home, so that I can sleep. But I can’t anymore, I feel like I’m starting to forget what it was like,” he admitted.
“Try. Tell me about it, then I can help you remember when you forget,” Melshi whispered as he scooted closer to the edge of his cell, closer to the man who leaned on him for brief seconds at their table, chronically drained from lack of sleep. He was still unsure if it was out of a genuine need for support, from an inability to stay standing- or if maybe Cassian appreciated his unwavering stability for more sentimental reasons.
Cassian took a moment to think of his old room on Ferrix, where he had lived with Maarva and Clem for so many years. “I had a bantha,” he says.
“A bantha?” he hears in response.
Chuckling quietly, he clarifies “It was a toy, my father gave it to me when I was very small, I think I must’ve been only six or seven- but I still have it now. I was so scared of the dark as a boy. He told me that banthas live in herds, they take care of each other, and that my little bantha would watch over me while I slept. I think it did.”
“I can be your bantha,” he is barely able to hear from the ten-foot divide, as if Melshi wasn’t completely sure of himself, but the honest care and concern was evident in his voice. “Watch over you while you try to rest.”
Cassian felt stirring in his stomach, his heartbeat was more pronounced. “I’d like that,” he replied softly, his eyes smiling, the white lights reflecting in them, not the red.
           “Goodnight, Keef.”
“Cassian- my name is Cassian. I want you to know that, I need someone here to know who I am,” he cautiously spoke.
“Goodnight, Cassian,” he hears in response.
Before he closes his eyes, he looks over to Melshi and sees the white lights reflected in his eyes as well, sees how soft they are when looking back at him.
That night, Cassian doesn’t sleep pressed against the wall, but as close as he can safely get to the edge, with his arm outstretched towards this man who made him feel safe in this horrible place.
When he finally rests his eyes, he sees that Melshi has reached out his hand, too. He wishes he could hold it, wishes he could have his sturdy arm wrapped around him all through the night. He finds that maybe the lights aren’t so bad, because if it was dark in the dormitory he wouldn’t be able to see Melshi’s peaceful, beautiful face.
           “Goodnight, bantha.”

next fic in the series:
This is my first fic, and I really enjoyed writing it. I think these two are so sweet. More to come, I think.

More Thranto. This time the Grand Admiral is being a bit less civilized and cordial with his gentleman lover, Eli. I know I just posted a couple of Call of Duty ones with this reference, but I made some variations, so the work was definitely put in to make it unique to my other ones. ;)

I was gonna be in a Star Wars campaign that fizzled out, so here’s my character concept: Master Tweripel Lokoy, a smoky-voiced older woman with biting wit and undeniable sex appeal, a Sigourney Weaver type, but a Jawa. Imagine mommy voice coming out of a totally obscuring hood two and a half feet off the ground. It would have been such a moment. Ah well, this is the risk run by ttrpg.
