Just read a letter-to-the-editor in Gay Community News that said, as an aside, that S&M lesbians must really be bisexual, since they clearly don’t love women the way a lesbian does.
Don’t have much to say about it other than “that’s a bad take”, but damn if it isn’t a bad take

Members of the Fort Hill Faggots for Freedom, featured in the pages of Boston’s Gay Community News in 1976 | ph: Jane Picard
The Faggots were a militant commune and activist group consisting largely of draft dodgers, closely associated with the adjacent anarchist collective and zine publishers FagRag, who lived communally not only for economic purposes but also to “overcome [their] heterosexual conditioning as men” through domestic work. They are known for a number of actions, including picketing a local gay bar that refused service to drag queens and dykes who attempted to enter.
In one flyer passed around during Pride month, they wrote under the masthead REMEMBER STONEWALL calling for a return to radical solidarity. “…Even the most conservative demands of civil rights have not been met, let alone the more radical demands of gay liberationists. We cannot accept non-commitment. To the straight community we, the Fort Hill Faggots for Freedom are presenting a posture of militant solidarity. To the gay community, we are making a show of support and reacting to differences in a spirit of loving confrontation.”

A page in issue #9 of Gay Community News (1988) detailing Halloween events, with the main attraction of course being the Annual Halloween Ball hosted by the former staff of Flikkers Dance Club of the Hirschfeld Centre. The 6th iteration of the legendary ball would be held at the Irish Film Institute, 6 Eustace Street, Dublin 2.
If you're searching for costume inspiration this year, look to the photos from these incredible balls - my favourite image is of a man dressed as a gin and tonic, complete with bubbles and a lemon wedge!
Happy Halloween!

Friday, February 16.
Some good news.
News of a good disposition seems more than a little sparse right now, so you really have to make the most of it, as and when.
There is some news, however, from Greece. And this news is pretty, pretty good. So we are going to break this particularly good news to you the only way we know how. Enjoy it y'all.

"Lawmakers in Thailand’s lower house of Parliament overwhelmingly approved a marriage equality bill on Wednesday that would make the country the first in Southeast Asia to legalize equal rights for marriage partners of any gender.
The bill passed its final reading with the approval of 400 of the 415 members of the House of Representatives in attendance, with 10 voting against it, two abstaining and three not voting.
Thailand has a reputation for acceptance and inclusivity but has struggled for decades to pass a marriage equality law. Thai society largely holds conservative values, and members of the LGBTQ+ community say they face discrimination in everyday life. The government and state agencies are also historically conservative, and advocates for gender equality have had a hard time pushing lawmakers and civil servants to accept change.
[Note: As always, worth noting that all of those things can be said about the US and plenty of Western countries too. The West isn't magically non-homophobic.]
The bill now goes to the Senate, which rarely rejects any legislation that passes the lower house, and then to the king for royal endorsement. This would make Thailand the first country or region in Southeast Asia to pass such a law and the third in Asia, after Taiwan and Nepal.
The bill amends the Civil and Commercial Code to change the words “men and women” and “husband and wife” to “individuals” and “marriage partners.” It would open up access to full legal, financial and medical rights for LGBTQ+ couples...
The new government led by Pheu Thai, which took office last year, has made marriage equality one of its main goals."

Ya'll want to know the funniest shit?
I'm researching the era when Alastor was alive right now to get a better idea of both his character, the life he lived before Hell, and to hash out a backstory for him.
And so, apparently, Alastor lived through the Prohibition (which was basically the United States government illegalizing the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcohol because they thought it was the cause of a lot of domestic violence and child abandonment).
Alastor canonically died in 1933.
Do you know how long the Prohibition lasted?
From 1920-1933.
ALASTOR LITERALLY DIED THE SAME YEAR ALCOHOL BECAME LEGAL AGAIN. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW BITTER HE MUST'VE BEEN?
The Prohibition officially ended on December 5, 1933, and now my headcanon is that Alastor died December 6, 1933. Literally the day after he could legally drink all the booze he wanted.
I am learning a LOT about New Orleans and the era Alastor lived through (including the gay community in the city at the time) which has been a lot of fun, and I just wanted to share that tidbit because it is so fucking funny to me.

If anyone reading this is a fan of people not getting executed and is in the market for 30 pounds of lobster, this seems like a golden opportunity. Unfortunately you missed it by 45 years.

"Russia’s highest court found in favour of a motion filed by the Ministry of Justice which claimed the LGBTQ community risked “inciting social and religious discord”, in violation of Russia’s Law on Countering Extremism, according to a statement from the UN condemning the decision."

i’m so fucking done with people. The fact that he was literally forced to come out, bullying him and calling him a queerbaiter every day until he couldn’t keep it to himself anymore. Imagine being 18 and having the entire internet forcing you to come out and straight up labelling you.
I remember a few months back when Kit talked about his RIGHT to keep his sexuality private, and what makes it even worse is that the “hearstopper fans” were the ones harassing him and assuming his sexuality every fucking day, to the point he left twitter so he wouldn’t see all of it and not only that but literally made him address it.
And he’s right, some of you did miss the point of Heartstopper, LIKE DID WE WATCH THE SAME SHOW?? DID YOU LEARN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING?? and honestly it’s not something that can get lost in translation, it’s right fucking there, but some people just choose to ignore it and for what.
That being said, i just wanna share this quote from the comic, it’s so important for everyone to understand that NOBODY owes us anything when it comes to them figuring their sexuality or just wanting to keep it to themselves, if someone chooses to have that part of themselves private it doesn’t immediately invalidates them, it doesn’t mean it’s not real and it does NOT give anyone the right to force it out or assume something.
