me when season five airs and The Big Reveals are mike's sexuality and will's love for mike bc mike has always known he's loved will but he hasn't always been comfortable with his sexuality and will has always known what he is but he didn't always know that what he felt for mike was that kind of love until it was already too late and thus the source of his pain has been jealousy + unrequited love

Au where Sydney Poindexter really likes superheroes but like 1950s superheroes because that's when he was alive so when all the ghost starts appearing he decides to become a cheesy 1950s superhero. He does this surprisingly well and because Danny doesn't need to protect people he gets into significantly less ghost fights and just becomes a kid with superpowers who isn't a hero. Sydney's of (living?) the dream while Danny gets to be a teenager. Danny sometimes helps if the foes really stronger and will defend himself in those accounts if a ghost shows up but he leaves it to Sydney most of the time.

Sydney looks and acts like a parody of 1950's Superman and Batman but none of the Town wanted to tell him cuz he's some dead kid protecting them they arent going to ruin his fun. He really enjoys protecting people and he really likes being popular.

Vlad and skulker specifically still fix it on Danny for his halfa status but Poindexter does his best to protect him.

Danny is definitely stronger than Poindexter (and most ghosts) but he steadfastly refuses to get sucked into heroing. Tucker doesn't get this ands always pestering him about "his cool powers"

Sam and Sydney have some friction over his outdated ideas. See at the start Sydney's well at best a little sexist. He's actually progressive for the time he came from but he's still a white teenager from the 1950s. He's really excited about a lot of rights but really confused about a few others. Like everyone being able to live by there own means (women and black people having the freedom to get any job they want) is super exciting but he still thinks women are weaker than men and need extra protection. He's fine with gay ppl but he doesn't get it. And transitioning goes right over his head. Alot of his biases are subconscious and over time he actually becomes more open-minded.

tbh the whole mike hate is kinda getting annoying. and it's kinda also very... bad? because in the next season, he's going to be hated more. especially when Byler becomes canon, you can expect many fans to turn on him when that happens. because how many ppl like mike as a character now anyways? most GA dislikes him, there's some mlbns who like him but those mlvns will turn on him once byler becomes canon. so i just think bylers hating on mike this much is kinda weird. and i am worried because once s5 rolls and ppl just start hating on him more just because things did not exactly turn out to be the way they wished....? it will be bad lmao

i really think that mike's popularity is at its worst right now even with mlvns turning on him (it's not like they're particularly influential) i don't see it being worse for him. like yeah people are gonna be mad, which is terrible but like...inevitable? i do think homophobes will hate him for well being gay but also for dating a girl and they'll think he led her on and was an awful person for that no matter how the breakup goes blah blah blah but idk. maybe i'm being overly optimistic but i don't think the average non-homophobic person will hate him. the ones that like don't care that much will probably be like oh that's why he was acting like that he was just going through something. maybe some of them will still be like will deserves better but if they really think that after processing what mike went through dealing with his own sexuality then they're just not smart and obviously people who will hate him for being gay aren't smart either but idk... i feel like if they understand him and what he's gone through more they'll inevitably warm up to him. not everyone of course but yk. he'll get more hate than will did because will is like...well he never dated the show's star character and he didn't have a superhero girlfriend for years and even if people didn't want to see it gayness has been in the will byers semantic field from the very beginning.

bylers who hate on mike are boring it's literally june again (you sent this in may i'm very sorry...) let's do something else let's find something new let's move on.

it will be bad but i also don't think it'll be THAT bad. but it probably will be bad. but also not. it'll be fine. probably. but people will hate him.

i think it’s genuinely bizarre and funny how many ppl think kr*pke would have a mental breakdown if he knew there was a fandom for his extremely popular well-watched and well-received superhero show. no sure he’s completely ignorant to fandom and its working after making television for 20 years you’re so right

i also think it’s funny when ppl think the boys is “supposed” to predominantly appeal to a white young male demographic like obviously it does and some of the marketing esp early on was skewed in that direction but how do you watch this show and go “oh this show thinks gay people don’t watch it” or whatever while it specifically has a three-season-long story regarding a bisexual woman’s struggle w/self acceptance in the face of male sexual violence like what

annie is one of the major protagonists! this show is ALSO ABOUT HER! y’all wild sometimes

This take someone had with me because I posted queer Joker art is sending me. I agree that there needs to be new, queer superheros but what this person fails to understand is that if you keep all the more popular, mainstream heroes as straight then the queer heroes have less of an impact. If you make an established superhero queer it will be more in the public eye. I'm so tired of ppl saying "stop making straight heroes gay" when THEYVE BEEN QUEERCODED FOR YEARS IN THE FRIST PLACE.

don’t worry, I totally get it and understand where you’re coming from! I’m also honestly not a fan of all interracial ships having one white person x a poc, but I do think WA are different in the sense that they came at a time where the most popular and iconic ships were predominantly just white people, and managed to pave the way for actresses of colour to take on these iconic roles, like with the dceu iris/dinah, titans kory and even ariel in the little mermaid. So like, we have to give them credit where it’s due and acknowledge what WA and especially iris/candice have done for the genre. Like I’m still not a fan of gr*nt or most of the white arrowverse cast tbh but the dumbass shit he said shouldnt diminish the importance of WA ykwim? I still would much rather have two poc in a relationship and think it’s time we move away from the white x poc m/f ship mould, but that would be something to look for moving forward. And on that note if you don’t already know you should watch The Half of It on Netflix tomorrow cause it’s a romantic coming of age story featuring 2 sapphic woc thats also directed by a gay woc, so it’s exactly the type of thing we’re looking for :)

okay so listen.

1. When Lonnie was still around and was being a dick Will would call Mike over the walkie and ask him to meet him at castle byers. MIKE WOULD DROP LITERALLY EVERYTHING and go as quickly as he could

2. BEFORE WILL HAD A BIKE OF HIS OWN HE WOULD RIDE ON THE BACK OF MIKES

3. In college they dorm the first year and save up money to they a small apartment off of campus for the following years

4. in hs Will works at an art store that opens up and Mike comes in before his shifts at the arcade down the road to ‘bother’ him

5. Sometimes when it’s just the two of them they often find themselves laying on the floor in deep conversation

I also have a few that go in hand with Modern Day

1. Will runs an art Instagram with a decent amount of followers, often he post drawings of mike that he’s does to the point where ppl ask if mike is his bf and Will is like “NO WTF” because his (not so secret) crush must remain a secret 😔

2. Mike & Will make a webcomic that has superhero’s & gay characters & strong female leads (inspired by el & max) that becomes so popular that they get made into physical copies that can often be found at a indie bookstore (mikes writing & wills art IS POWERFUL)

3. OMG AN ALTERNATE ‘it’s not my fault you don’t like girls’

(( but since it’s modern day Will is already probably out to a few people so the line would probably be different lol ))

SCENE WHERE AFTER THE LINE WILL IS JUST LIKE “WELL MAYBE IT IS SINCE I LIKE YOU.” mike is just like gobsmacked and will is just like “OH FUCK” because he just EXPOSED HIMSELF so hard

(( but it doesn’t end with Will smashing castle byers because that made me want to die ))

4. They just move out of hawkins, go to college where mike does something in science (creative writing minor) and Will is a double in art & education, they’re happy and in love, there’s a cat 😔😔 everything is just nice. Will is a plant mom and mike takes up cooking.

I was going to explain why this is an ugly, untrue ask and how that phrase is exclusionary, but you know what, the posts I linked to did a great job explaining it, and I know there are definitely more out there explaining why this is. And just to nip this in the bud, any discourse asks will immediately be deleted. This blog is meant for celebrating rep, and if needed, pointing out how representation can be better portrayed. It is not, and will never become a discourse blog.

So, instead, I’d like to take this time to remind my followers that asexuality, aromanticism, and all a-spec identities are not straight and that all people who identify as a-spec are a part of the community!

And, for any followers who are curious, here’s an extra special list of characters who are a-spec, and I hope you all have at least one that you enjoy reading or watching:

Canon A-spec Characters:

Todd Chavez - Bojack Horseman: came out as asexual in this season, and the show also explains aromanticism to Todd!) It’s a popular idea that Todd may learn more about aromanticism in the next season and use that label as well, but for now that’s just speculation amongst a few fans.

Jughead Jones - Archie Comics: explicitly stated as asexual in this comic, but this isn’t new. He has been coded as ace throughout Archie history and is seen by many (including myself) as aro as well!

Valentina “Voodoo” Dunacci - Sirens USA: romantic asexual, the show was unfortunately canceled but it was a great first start at showing people what asexuality was and providing rep

Raphael Santiago - Shadowhunters: confirmed in-show and by the author that he’s ace! CC also stated that he is aro. He’s also racial rep, which is awesome!

One issue I must note this is an author who changed a character’s identity from bi to pan in a tweet, and has had more problems with rep, making it hard for people to take her word, but in Raphael’s case this simply adds on more rep that’s very much needed.

Sherlock Holmes: confirmed as ace by Benedict Cumberbatch and I believe Moffat.

Issue: the show and actor’s comments can be more than a little problematic, there are also the books and various other versions of Sherlock.

Varys - Game of Thrones: Aroace. Unfortunately he’s never labeled because in the GOT world these terms do not exist, but in the show he explicitly states that he has never been interested in people in any romantic/sexual way.

Gerald Tippett - Shortland Street: Unfortunately I don’t know much about this character beyond him being asexual.

Daryl Dixon - The Walking Dead: confirmed as asexual by the show’s creator.

Issue: The creator also described him as “straight”, and “somewhat” asexual, making me worry that he doesn’t (or to be fair, since this is from 2014, that 3 years ago he didn’t) have a good grasp on what asexuality is, but Daryl is still confirmed as ace.

Sally Grissom - Ars Paradoxica: She’s asexual, and while I don’t listen to the podcast, it’s been described to me in a submission that her fellow LGBTQIA+ friends accept her and her identity.

Roshanna Chatterji - Secret Six (2008)/The Movement (2013): An asexual and Bengali superhero!

Poppy - Huge: Not a character I found a lot on, but she came out as asexual on the show.

7 Books With Asexual Leads

Coded and/or Seen As A-Spec:

Charlie Weasley - Harry Potter: while a minor character, JKR stated that he’s not gay, but not interested romantic relationships/”just more interested in dragons”, leading many to headcanon him as aro and/or ace.

Castiel - Supernatural: commonly headcanoned as asexual by members of fandom.

Most of the Doctors - Doctor Who: most of the threads I’ve seen have described his versions as being coded as asexual.

Daniela Velazquez - Sense8: admittedly my own personal headcanon, but Dani is shown to not be romantically attracted to any character on the show. She shows sexual attractions, but has no interest in romance and is in a functional dynamic with two gay men in the show, and they describe themselves as a trio and act, in my opinion, as an example of a QPR.

Sheldon Cooper - The Big Bang Theory: many articles are written about it, here’s one speaking about his identity and another that explains one of the issues with the way the show has gone.

Issues: The show is incredibly problematic, and there are different posts on why it’s sexist and written poorly.

Books with asexuality (contains a mix of characters who are explicitly asexual, or could be read as asexual).

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

Honestly I don’t even consider this an OTP bc I’m so ??? but like….phl/int?? I just. Do not understand. And to this day. Still do not. And yet it’s sUCH a huge one in the fandom???? somehow??????

Honestly I kind of have an idea of some of the impetus but that is something I don’t even want to get into right now lmao.

5.Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?

oH BOY, has it 8) 8). e.g. I literally Cannot with st*cky bc of the shit some of the nastier ppl put us (st/ony/tony fans through) back in the day. Like…..I literally had to blacklist bc I cannot even look at them 8) and every time I wanted to find Steve meta it was all st*cky stuff somehow. Plus, there was a time when the prevailing characterization (or at least that I saw) was really REALLY like……codependent and stuff? Like honestly I didn’t even hate/dislike any other ships at first, I even watched Kings just for Seb Stan?? Who I thought was great in it, he’s got a real way of angsting wordlessly that’s really effective. And also benefited him as the Winter Soldier. But like……I have him blacklisted now because I just 8) 8) when I see that/stucky stuff.

19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?

the fact that canon is just so *massages temples* like all the time? Like honestly, on one hand I get the whole “ignore canon and enjoy it anyway” dealio, but on the other hand, I actually AM really resentful that I was trying to get into comics RIGHT as there was just…so much shit going on? Like I think one big moment I remember was during AXIS, which is…yikes. and then SIM, which we don’t talk about, which is more yikes? And then idk some other stuff, and incursions and prevailing grimdark culture (like it was all “hah, you thought superheroes would save you? Think again, NO ONE can save ANYONE!” like. c’mon, guys. You still WANT to make money, right?), and then whatever the heck secret wars/battleworld was. And then CWII???? and then Neo-Nazis Everywhere now. So like. y i kes.

and I wasn’t even really around during the first CW, and I’m already incredibly tired of it everywhere, including in MCU. Plus, I feel like Steve has been REALLY getting the short end of the stick with regards to everything. He’s sort of been at the mercy of whoever’s writing, and I kind of get the feeling ppl have just been sublimating their own vision of who the Captain America ideal should be (or subverting it for grimdark ~gritty~ ~realism~) and then extrapolating Steve from that, even though they COULD have done interesting stuff with juxtaposing those standards, Steve’s own moral standards, and maybe the conflict between him being a symbol for people but having his own views and stuff. I only just now in CW feel like I REALLY got a sense of who Steve is as a character, but unfortunately what coalesced is hardly flattering to the character :/

And like……honestly there’s a lot of stuff fandom-side, too. Off hand, I don’t think there’s much I hate about the Stevetony fandom? but I guess in terms of who I think about for that, it’s a specific subset of people I’ve seen around and interacted with or have followed for a bit. Like I haven’t really followed anyone new for a while now. but the marvel fandom at large….like….yike…………..the MCU fandom…… so much yike there. That specific subset of shippers who still think shipping is a great expression of LGBT allyship, who are the ones going “who do people even ship xxx??”, or just like….hating on people lmao.

Another thing I lowkey hate that isn’t necessarily directed at individual ppl is like….when non-Stevetony/tony fans are like “wow why are stevetony/tony fans so hateful/mean, they keep calling Steve a snake” or w.e Like….I get it bc they’re part of, e.g. the stucky fandom, and they’ve had the blessing of only coming into contact with nice ppl and never was on the receiving end of attacks or bullshit. But boy howdy, have Stevetony/Tony fans Been Through Some Shit. There’s a lot of, honestly, hurt there, and part of it is we spent so much time like mild about it and apologetic and we want some turnabout. It’s like that one tumblr post that’s like “fuck anyone who says forgive them ‘for my sake’ I’ve worked hard to hate them,” like for a LONG time, we were like “yes we love Tony, yes we know he’s not perfect, yes we acknowledge his flaws,” like we couldn’t just straight-up say we loved him as a character, we had to caveat it, and it was seen as a perfectly normalized part of the experience, to expect someone to come like “okay but also he’s evil because xxx” and have to be like “yeah okay we acknowledge xxxx but xxx.” Honestly I will fight for the right of ppl to their salt and try to contextualize as much as I can when I see stuff like that. bc you may not know but we haven’t forgotten :’)

There’s also a thing where I can’t tell if they’re in the stevetony fandom or they just….make posts, but those like …. “relatable” shipping posts that I sometimes will see bc mobile will rec it? Like I honestly hate those lmao. I find them cringey and painful to see. (those ones that are like “people think I’m so sweet and innocent but really I’m thinking of my gay ship fucking” or w.e like. maybe at some point I was like “omg same!” but now I’m like “please get this away from my face.” Or those ones where it’s like chat format like “isn’t xx sad?” “yeah isn’t it sad my ship isn’t canon?” or whatever like. D: D: that just makes me nnnoOOOOooooOOOOOooo inside. If you search a smattering of tumblr popular ships in tumb search You Will See Them. like, if you search johnlock destiel sterek or something like that. bc these ppl tag them with a million ship tags)

on that vein, really anyone tagging stuff with like character/ship tags that, imo, really....aren’t so much abt the ship but about themselves? Like, someone tagged their salt ask answer post with the character tags and I had to see someone say they don’t like stevetony and think comics Tony is a dick. Can You Think Before You Goddamn Tag pls and just Not. like ppl who bARELY mention Tony and still tag him in the tags........you realize it’s all going in a page right? it’s not just for your own blog? I think honestly the closest is probably Coulson lmao. Like. I just. Don’t see the appeal in him as a character at all. And recently I was watching a bunch of vid compilations for Iron Man and EVERY TIME there was like “and there’s someone else you pissed off. his name is phil” i”m like “:/ :/ but did that part REALLY have to be there??” like sure I get it it’s their vid compilation. But just. What Is The Appeal.

And honestly……I’m kind of :/ about MCU Clint, too? Like, Fraction’s Hawkeye is awesome, but somehow that doesn’t really register as Clint to me. AA’s Clint is fine, but for some reason my mind tends to default to MCU Clint unless there’s further elaboration, and I just :/ :/ >:( re: him.

comic book superheroes and characters are so funny to me sometimes because they’re so blatantly homoerotic…. like wow superman/batman swole as fuck manly as hell in these skin-tight get ups… suspiciously accentuating and showing off thems #muscles. but they became popular and flourished in a time when it was fashionable to lure your local gay out to the cornfields and light them on fire. i try to stay off the bandwagons for the most part but damn straight ppl are just fucked up if you give things at least half of a thought. y'all nasty

Honestly if u don’t like the new Power Rangers movie then its fine BC maybe the movie’s not for u but u can’t deny that the representation was really amazing like besides the mostly POC cast, having Billy be a black autistic character is so important since black people don’t have much rep for autism (mainly shown with white kids) ,and in real life, are diagnosed much later, and have a harder time getting help. Billy isn’t just a token for representation. He actually says he’s on the spectrum n was explaining to Jason on why he does things a certain way and Jason, who is a popular jock, had his back the whole time and none of the rangers looked down on him or acted like he was less than them. IN FACT THERE’S NO DENYING THAT BILLY CRANSTON IS THE HEART N SOUL OF THE TEAM !!

for Trini and the gay rep: I personally think it was fine. It could’ve been more but I didn’t hate the way they did it and knowing

she doesn’t like ppl getting to know her so she wouldn’t upfront say it n she said she never told anyone anything like that made sense. Its just the first movie, I'm sure in the sequel(s) they will have her figure her sexuality out more and if not then ill fite them tbh. To be fair, if u watched interviews directly from the cast they never make it seem more than it is , they usually just say Trini is confused n still figuring herself out but has a sweet moment. Its the press mostly who blows it up to "FIRST LGBT SUPERHERO IN A FILM ", which is not wrong but wasnt what everyone thought it would be exactly. Like the writers seem to listen to the audience (like them taking out the str8 kiss) n like in general I didn’t think the movie would be that deep so I do think they will care enough to have trini be good sapphic rep in the future.

And truly the cast make it clear in every interview that they’re not trying to replace the original cast n they are a “reimagined” version of the rangers so ppl who r mad BC “they ruined the power rangers” are wild . like its called a reboot for a reason. They never sold it as the same as the original so ppl r freaking out BC its different for no reason. And generally, reboots aren’t supposed to be exactly the same as the original but are still inspired by it so like??? Why r ppl mad? The old power rangers were good BC the cheesy-ness n tbh I was expecting that a little more in the new movie but it still was an amazing movie.

'Power Rangers' Reboot Director On The Impact Of A Ranger With Autism

In an important move for inclusion, the new “Power Rangers” movie features a character with autism.

RJ Cyler stars in the reboot of “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” and plays Billy who learns he is the Blue Ranger. Billy is a person of color who has autism, a move director Dean Israelite said was “important” to ensure his take on the popular franchise was diverse.

Israelite told Teen Vogue he wanted to show the impact of Billy and his abilities on his team of fellow Rangers.

“We wanted to take a character like Billy and celebrate those abilities and manifest in a movie the idea that without Billy and without the qualities he has, this team would never be victorious,” he said.

Along with having a character with autism, “Power Rangers” features a queer superhero, played by singer and actress Becky G.

Since the film debuted on March 24, many fans took note of Billy’s disorder and shared their praise online.

At the movie’s premiere, screenplay writer John Gatins explained to Variety the motivation behind its characters and said that the creators kept in mind the sort of social issues teens face now, including “the LGBTQ community, the autism spectrum, cyber bullying and social media.”

“I feel like, it’s 2017 and we need to reflect 2017,” he said.

In another huge win for representation, “Sesame Street” announced earlier this month that its Muppet with autism, Julia, would make her TV debut.

The character’s puppeteer, Stacey Gordon, said she wished Julia had been around for her son with autism when he was younger to let him know that playing “in a different way” is OK. Similarly, Israelite told Teen Vogue he hopes Billy will let others with autism know that “they too can be superheroes metaphorically.”
