Getting back to normal || Fabrevans
Involved: Quinn and Sam
When: Tuesday evening
Quinn wasn't sure how well this evening with Sam would go. They hadn't been on the best of terms since the whole Santana/him thing and she did want to get back their friendship, but she had a feeling it was still going to be awkward, especially now that her and Alex were a thing. Officially a thing. Well, to her understanding. Walking outside, she waited for Sam.
Sam was pretty nervous about hanging out with Quinn due to the fact that the last time he'd saw her face to face ended up with her in tears, storming out of his apartment. Still, she'd been right when she said that a week without seeing each other was long enough and Sam didn't want to wait anymore to see her. Once things with Santana were settled, he head outside and tucked his phone in his pockets, smiling warmly as he saw her. He really had missed her. "Hey, stranger."
Quinn turned around when she heard his voice and gave him a small smile. "Hi back."
Sam didn't know what exactly was acceptable around her anymore but reached over to give her a quick gentle one-armed hug, not wanting to push it. "Ready for me to be your stylist?"
Quinn returned the hug briefly before pulling back. "Yeah, let's go," she said, heading for her car.
Sam slid his hands into his pockets and followed her over to her car, slipping into the passenger side as she unlocked it.
Quinn got into the car and started up the engine, pulling out of the spot once he was settled. "So, is everything better?" she asked, figuring she'd get it out of the way sooner rather than later.
Sam buckled himself in and shrugged a little. "It's not as bad as it was last night, at least."
Quinn nodded her head as she drove down the road towards the mall. "Glad to hear it."
Sam cleared his throat a little, looking out of the window. "And things with you and Alex...? They're good?"
Quinn "Perfect," she said, grinning from ear to ear as she recounted their past few nights together and what had transpired between them.
Sam smiled softly, nodding his head. "I'm glad things are working out for you." He told her sincerely. "And we're here today for date number three outfit, right?"
Quinn "Me too," she said, nodding. Date number three. Although I guess there's no need to keep count anymore."
Sam 's brow furrowed slightly. "What do you mean?"
Quinn "We're not waiting for any sort of finish line, I guess. Not any more," she tried to explain.
Sam "Oh?" He continued before raising his eyebrows once the realization hit. "O-oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to...y'know." He continued, clearing his throat awkwardly.
Quinn shook her head with a laugh. "It's fine... That doesn't.. make you uncomfortable, right? 'Cause we're just friends.."
Sam shook his head quickly, making the point clear. "No, no, no. No. No. No. No, no, no," he rambled. "Why would it? We're friends, y'know? We...do stuff with others. It's cool. It's good. You know, for you. Good for you!"
Quinn had a feeling he wasn't being completely honest with her but maybe it was for the best. "Your drawing you posted today was really pretty," she said, opting for a change of subject.
Sam clasped his hands together with a small smile. "Thanks," he replied. "Result of a 3-5 shift on a relatively slow day."
Quinn "Who was the inspiration?" she asked, pulling into a spot at the mall.
Sam furrowed his brow a little bit, not entirely sure himself. "I don't know, actually..." he shrugged. "I didn't even think about it. Pencil to paper and that's what I got."
Quinn "Huh," she said. "Must have been someone subconsciously on your mind or something." Getting out of the car, she waited for him before heading inside. "So, I think Express would have something nice..." she said, leading him to the store.
Sam nodded. "That's usually the case," he shrugged, getting out of the car. Meeting up with her at the front of the car, he followed her to whatever in the hell place they were headed to. "Express...okay."
Quinn rolled her eyes with a laugh. "Just tell me what dresses look best," she said, pulling a few off the racks and heading to the dressing room. She came out a moment later in a tight blue one.
Sam nodded. "I can do that." He smirked a little, aimlessly browsing as she went to change. He got a few odd looks from the other customers in the store as he picked out a leather dress but put it back quickly when he saw her leave her dressing room. In fact, he was pretty sure his mouth made an audible popping noise. "Wow."
Quinn did a little twirl, stopping and resting her hands on her hips. "Was that a good wow?"
Sam nodded, scanning over her. "Very good. You look like Supergirl."
Quinn "Thank you," she said, turning to glance at her ass in the mirror. He was right - it was very good. "Alright, I have three more. One sec," she said, disappearing and returning a moment later in a red one, which cut very low at her chest.
Sam gulped as she left and simply whistled, looking around his surroundings as he waited for her. As soon as she walked back out, his eyes seemed to narrow in at her chest first before they grew wide and looked away. "Uh....yeah. Pretty. Nice and chest. I mean, red. Yeah, awesome, next dress now. Please."
Quinn pursed her lips at his comment. "This was a bad idea," she said, walking into her dressing room and returning to her original clothing rather than trying on the next dress. She'd just take the red one. It seemed to have the desired effect anyway. Walking back out with just the dress, she head for the cashier. "I'll buy this and we can get going. Sorry for dragging you along."
Sam ran his hands through his hair as she walked away, internally cursing himself. "No, no, I'm really sorry," he shook his head apologetically. "Look, that would have happened with any dude. I mean, that's what you want to happen to Alex anyway, right? Buy the dress and we'll grab some food or something...please?"
Quinn shrugged at his question, pressing her lips together as she glanced away, considering. What were they even going to talk about for the rest of the day, when the only thing they have to talk about were their respective significant others and that just made everything awkward? Sighing, she handed the dress to the cashier with her credit card, receiving a bag in return. "Yeah, whatever. Let's go."
Sam nodded, happy that she wasn't going to bail and slid his hands into his pockets. "So, have you heard anything back from FIT?"
Quinn led the way out of the store and towards the food court. "No. I have another week or so."
Sam "Have you told your family?" He asked, wondering if she ever brought it up to her mom.
Quinn shook her head. "What type of food do you want?"
Sam thought over it for a moment. "Uh...Chinese. Always."
Quinn let out a laugh. "See, that makes sense. I had to introduce Alex to mall Chinese food the other day," she explained, leading him to the correct booth. "You wouldn't believe how adorable it all was, though."
Sam "He's never had mall Chinese food!?" Sam asked in outrage. "What do you mean adorable? Did he have a heart attack when you took him to the food court?"
Quinn shook her head with a small smile. "I mean, he paid way too much for it, and he was all wary with eating it. It was cute," she shrugged. "And no, he didn't. He suggested it, actually."
Sam smiled a little as he watched her explain. She looked...happy. Actually happy. "You're really starting to like this guy, huh?"
Quinn nodded her head. "More than anyone before," she admitted.
Sam felt that one sting but kept a good poker face. She was moving on and he was glad for her. "You deserve it. All of it. I'm glad he's giving it to you."
Quinn "Thanks," she said, before ordering her food. Turning back to Sam as she paid, she smiled. "I think it might last past the summer. We just get each other," she said, taking her food and eyeing the area for an empty table.
Sam ordered after her and paid for his own, eyes glancing her way as she continued. "Really? You think this thing is like...long-term?" He asked, spotting an empty table for the two of them. Leading the way, he sat down and looked back up to her. "Will that be long distance or...?"
Quinn shrugged. "Anything is possible, right?" she asked, taking a seat and having a bite of her food immediately. "Well, he's from North Carolina, so probably. Unless I don't get into FIT and there's a fashion design school by him."
Sam nodded. "Right, right. Of course," he smiled, digging into his food. "Wow...that sounds...serious."
Quinn shrugged again, taking another bite. "Like I said, I really like him. You wouldn't do that for Santana?"
Sam thought about it for a second before nodding. "Yeah. Yeah, I would."
Quinn couldn't help the small frown that formed on her lips for a millisecond, before she remembered the origin of this conversation. "Well, there you go."
Sam continued eating for a moment before looking up to her again. He really had missed spending time with her. Just looking over to her formed a smile on his lips.
Quinn felt his eyes on her as they ate and looked up, making a face. "What? Is there something in my teeth?"
Sam laughed a little, shaking his head. "No, I just...missed you."
Quinn gave him a smile. "I missed you too, Sam."
Sam 's smile grew wider. "For a while there I thought I'd lost you for good."
Quinn shook her head. "As if. We made all of those plans for the future, remember? Texting, skyping, calling, snail mail..."
Sam laughed a little, nodding. "Yeah, yeah, how could I forget?" He grinned. "That was an unbreakable promise."
Quinn "Good. I'm holding you to it," she said, giving him a pointed look as she finished off her food.
Sam smirked and finished off his food. "I wouldn't wanna feel the Fabray wrath by breaking it."
Quinn laughed."It's intense, you definitely don't," she told him, taking a sip of her drink.
Sam winced playfully at the thought of it. "Are we talking Superman infected with red kryptonite intense?"
Quinn nodded seriously. "Just like that."
Sam kept his eyes wide, blinking for a few moments. "...I'm suddenly terrified."
Quinn "As you should be," she said with a chuckle.
Sam "Trust me, I'm terrified," he laughed a little, glad that she seemed to be comfortable around him again.
Quinn nodded her head with a laugh, reaching over to toss her stuff in the nearby trash can. The mall trip was a success - she got to fill up her tummy and buy a sexy dress for date number three.
Sam "So, what's on the cards for date number three anyway?" he asked, tossing his trash.
Quinn "I'm making him dinner. Penne all'arrabbiata."
Sam "I didn't know you cooked," he smiled. "...Or can you not and this is gonna be a total disaster?"
Quinn shook her head. "I know how to cook plenty of things," she said with a shrug. "There's a lot we don't know about each other."
Sam "Spaghetti and meatballs is about the best I can do. Unless we're talking barbecue," he chuckled. "Me and you or you and Alex...?"
Quinn "I make a mean rack of ribs," she said with a smirk. "Me and you, goof."
Sam laughed, raising his eyebrows in surprise. "Really? Damn...well, you can't bring them to Finn and Tina's party, 'cause I'm barbecuing." He told her playfully. "Ohh. Right. Well, yeah, I guess we really don't. We should fix that, though."
Quinn "I have no idea what I
Quinn "I have no idea what I'm bringing, if I even go," she shrugged. "Yeah, sure."
Sam pursed his lips. "What's a Florida specialty?" He asked. "Don't sound so enthusiastic there, Fabass."
Quinn "I dunno. Oranges," she said, wondering what she could make from what. "I just don't think we'll have that many opportunities to hang out."
Sam laughed a little. "Make some...kind of drink? That's pretty easy, right?" He suggested. "Why's that?"
Quinn nodded her head. "I could do that. Or orange juice popsicles," she said, pursing her lips. "Well, you've got Santana, I've got Alex, and it's not like we all mesh that well."
Sam "Orange juice popsicles! There we go. It'll take, like, five minutes to make but will still be delicious," he smirked. Shrugging a little as she continued, the blonde frowned a little. "We're not with them all of the time, though. I hang out with Harmony the same amount I did before Santana and I got together.2
Quinn "Exactly," she agreed with a nod, before sighing. "Yeah, but Santana likes Harmony."
Sam "Santana knows I'm here with you right now. She didn't have a bad word to say or bad look to give..." he reasoned. "I mean, unless Alex would be against it."
Quinn shook her head. "Okay then," she conceded.
Sam smiled and nodded. "Okay then."
Quinn "So..." she said, glancing around the food court. "Now what?" She asked, a little depressed. It had never been this hard to hang out or find something to talk about with him before.
Sam "Now...if you don't mind, maybe we could go get my weekly comic fill?" He asked, looking to her hopefully.
Quinn nodded her head. "Let's go."
Sam lead the way to the store and began to peer in the Marvel section, flicking through random pages.
Quinn walked in with him and stood off to the side, watching him enjoy his comics. There was something annoyingly cute about the smile on his face as he flicked through them and she made a conscious effort to walk away and explore on her own.
Sam 's eyes flickered up as he saw her moving and smiled a little. "Thinking about getting into comics over there, Fabray?"
Quinn shook her head. "Haven't been interested since my Archie comic days. Sorry to burst your bubble, Sammy."
Sam sighed out, shaking his head. "That's just a darn shame."
Quinn "I think you'll be okay," she countered, her eyes glancing up at a poster on the wall.
Sam "I'm not so sure," he looked down and picked up his regular favorite before heading over to pay for them.
Quinn rolled her eyes and followed him over to the counter, playing with a random toy while she waited for him to pay.
Sam paid up and handed her a separate bag. "Supergirl," he told her with a warm smile. "You reminded me of her before...she's pretty kickass. It's a good place to warm-up your comic book reading."
Quinn glanced in the bag, a smile reaching her lips and her cheeks growing faintly pink. "I'll read it the second I get home," she promised.
Sam grinned happily and was glad that she liked it. "Good," he nodded, reaching a hand up to squeeze her shoulder gently. "Let your education begin."
Quinn shook her head with a laugh. "Trying to turn everyone over to the dork side, are you?"
Sam laughed, nodding his head as they exited the store. "The dork side. I like it. And yes, I plan on total dork domination."
Quinn "I thought so," she said with a smile. He was so cute, in a totally dorky, friendly sort of way.
Sam "Well, you know me, Fabass. I'm not a hard guy to read."
Quinn scrunched up her nose as the familiar weekend, wondering if it was past it's expiration. Perhaps they should have found new nicknames for each other now.
Sam raised an eyebrow at her expression. "I /am/ a hard guy to read..?"
Quinn shook her head. "No, no. Well, yes, a little bit, sometimes, but no."
Sam "A little bit sometimes, huh?" He asked playfully. "Gives me a little mystery. A little Batman swag."
Quinn "You know, you can't be every superhero, right? You're gonna have to choose one eventually," she pointed out.
Sam sighed out dramatically. The blonde closed his eyes and shook his head. "You're ruining the dream for me, Fabray."
Quinn leaned in to him, bumping her arm against his playfully. "I'll make it up to you. Follow me," she said, leading him into the music store.
Sam opened his eyes as she bumped into him but frowned at her words. Following her nonetheless, the blonde grinned as they reached the music store. "And how are you gonna make it up to me in here, huh?"
Quinn turned to look at him, tilting her head to the side. "You bought me something, I'm returning the favor," she paused, glancing around the store for the right section. "Just a little something to remind you of me after the summer ends," Quinn explained further, going to pick up a Train CD and handing it to him.
Sam smiled warmly and simply followed her around the store. "Train?" He asked, looking up to her. "You like these?"
Quinn nodded. "It's one of my favorite CDs right now."
Sam grinned a little bit. "Well, now they remind me of you."
Quinn "Just because I mentioned them?" she asked, a little unconvinced.
Sam shook his head. "Their songs make me happy."
Quinn furrowed her brow. "I'm sorry. I don't follow."
Sam shrugged a little. "Their songs make me happy, just like hanging out with you does." He smiled a little. "Now that you mentioned 'em it's like, you two match up, y'know?"
Quinn nodded. "I get it know," she said with a smile. "It works."
Sam laughed a little, bumping her with his elbow gently. "It definitely works."
Quinn glanced down at the CD and then back up at him. "I guess you don't really need this if you've already got it, then."
Sam shook his head. "I'm gonna keep it and label it Quinn. Then I'll be reminded of the awesome girl I met in Canada who makes me feel like Train songs do."
Quinn grinned immediately, her cheeks flushing pink. Despite being in the middle of the store, she reached out for him and pulled him close, hugging him for the first time since their argument.
Sam was surprised to say the least as she pulled him into a hug but wrapped his arms around her gently. "What's all this, huh?" He asked with a quiet laugh.
Quinn "Just missed you," she whispered, burying her head into his neck for a moment.
Sam made no move to let go and hugged her tighter to him. "Missed you more."
Quinn shook her head. "I doubt that," she said, because it was true. She still had a hard time keeping her distance from him, just on a friendly level. Slowly, she pulled back and let go of him, not wanting to draw too much attention to themselves.
Sam "I don't," he replied quietly, knowing how much of a hard time he'd had not being able to talk to her like usual. As she pulled back, the blonde wrapped his arm over her shoulder gently. "C'mon, let's go buy this."
Quinn frowned at his words, wondering why it was so hard for either of them to just let go of the other. She nodded her head, leaning into his side and walking over with him to the cashier. After purchasing the disc, she handed the bag to Sam with a smile. "Now we each have a little piece of one another," she said with a grin.
Sam smiled widely at her words and nodded. "That's true. A successful shopping trip, huh?" He asked playfully. "Not only do you leave with a dress, you leave with a little piece of the Sam Evans."
Quinn nodded. "I sure think so," she told him, resting her head on his shoulder momentarily, before directing him out of the store.
Sam leaned his head against hers gently for a moment before pulling away as she did. "All done?"
Quinn "All done. Let's bring you home to the old lady," she said with a laugh, breaking away from the hold of his arm and heading for the mall exit.
Sam frowned in confusion. "Who's the old lady?"
Quinn "Santana," she explained. "It's an expression. I figured you'd be hanging out with her tonight."
Sam "Oh!" He said with a laugh. "Yeah, probably a little later on. You seeing Alex tonight?"
Quinn nodded. "Most likely. We spend every night together now."
Sam raised his eyebrows. "Really? He doesn't seem like the cuddling type."
Quinn shrugged. "He cuddles with me," she told him.
Sam "That's a good sign then, huh?"
Quinn nodded with a bright smile. "Definitely. I told you."
Sam nodded, sucking in his lower lip. "Yep. You did. Guess you're just always right."
Quinn caught his expression and tone of voice and frowned. "Why do you always get like this when we talk about Alex?"
Sam raised his eyebrows. "Like what?"
Quinn "Uncomfortable," she sighed. "And I know you think he's a bad guy, but what if it wasn't Alex?"
Sam licked his lips, avoiding her eyes at all costs. "What do you mean, what if it wasn't him?"
Quinn "Like, even if it was another guy, who was completely opposite of Alex, more like you, that you'd still dislike him."
Sam shook his head. "I liked Mike, didn't I?"
Quinn pressed her lips together, wondering if she should say what was on her mind. "Forget it. Let's go."
Sam pulled her back by the hand to look at him. "Say it."
Quinn glanced down at her hand and sighed. "That was before you and I kissed."
Sam exhaled out sharply before tugging her a little closer to wrap his arms around her again. "I know this is weird," he mumbled into her shoulder. "Just...let me just hug you again, okay?"
Quinn frowned as she hugged him back. "Okay..." she said warily, wondering where that had come from.
Sam hugged her a little tighter, not really knowing how he could ever apologize for hurting her the way he did. Right now this was all he had.
Quinn shook her head. "Sam, it's fine," she said, trying to pull back a bit.
Sam pulled back a little and looked down to her. "It's not," he continued. "Quinn, I think about it everyday. I'm so, so sorry."
Quinn shook her head once more. "You and I were just friends, right? It's not like we had any serious feelings for each other, whereas you wanted Santana from the get-go."
Sam bit on his lip and looked down to the space between them. "Mhm."
Quinn "Unless... I'm wrong?" she asked, slightly hopeful.
Sam pursed his lips slightly before looking up at her. "You know we had feelings for each other," he said quietly. "No point pretending like we didn't."
Quinn turned away from him. "Makes it easier that way."
Sam sighed out, moving over to squeeze her shoulder. "C'mon. Let's go."
Quinn nodded, heading towards the exit silently.
Sam scoped out Quinn's car as they reached the parking lot and waited for her to unlock it.
Quinn unlocked the door and got in, starting up the engine. She waited for him before backing out and heading back to the apartments.
Sam sighed out as they began to head back to the apartments, feeling as though things would get weird again. "You think we'll ever be the same with each other again?"
Quinn shook her head with a frown, trying not to think about it too much.
Sam nodded sadly, feeling terrible about it all. "Do you think there's anything I can do - we can do to fix that?"
Quinn "I don't know, Sam. You're just... it's really unfair, the way you're so happy with Santana and then it's like, you don't want me to have that with Alex."
Sam shook his head. "I want you to be happy. Trust me, I do. I'm just cautious of this guy, is all."
Quinn "Well he makes me happy and he's good to me, so just trust me on that," she said angrily, pulling into her spot at the apartments.
Sam "Okay, okay," he nodded quickly, not wanting to anger her. "I will."
Quinn "Thanks," she said, grabbing her things and getting out after turning off the car.
Sam got out of the car and followed her over to the apartments. "Thanks for asking me to come along."
Quinn "No problem. Like I said, I missed you," she said, walking towards the door.
Sam bumped her with his elbow. "Missed you, too," he smiled softly before heading to his apartment. "We'll hang out soon?"
Quinn nodded. "Sure thing," she said, before hugging him quickly. "See you," she said, dipping into her apartment quickly.
