a (very rare) math/science post.
Tumblr media
hey! so i'm a british student but you'll see me putting things in brackets to help clarify things for my non british readers. so i did my GCSEs (i think the american equivalent is SATs?) back in may and june and one thing about me during my last year of school is i was in some deep shit. so i didn't really do that well. I got a bunch of 6s (B+s) and7 (A) in eng lit. i found i was couple marks off of a grade 7 (A ) in almost all my subjects including math and science. now i can deal with a B in art and a B in sociology because I'm doing them for A levels ( google tells me the americn equivalent is AP examinations) so doing well in them means that my gcse grade will be dismissed since i did better at A level today i asked my math teacher if there was any way i could resit and he cut me the following deal: if i resat my exams in either november or june of next year and got a better grade then he'd cover the fees and same goes for science. now, i just started sixth form/college so i'd have to learn in my own time somehow. i don't have anyone to teach me and i can't afford tutoring but i was offered to sit in the back of lessons during my free period every tuesday and that afterschool i can ask whatever available teacher for help for anything i really really can't teach myself should i go for it? please interact and tell me what you think.

As exam season is upon us, I know that many of you are anxious (like myself). I would like you to know that you are okay. You are enough. You have survived this far. You have learnt so much for the how many ever years you have learnt leading up to this point in your life. You have come so far and you will do some great things in the future once your exams are over. A sense of relief will come washing over you once you finish. Life will look up.
You are enough. You are okay, and always will be. You are safe and you are loved. I want you to know that.

When you love An Inspector Calls but you also love A Christmas Carol
Tumblr media
CROSSOVER ANYONE???
Also if anyone HASN'T seen it, I highly suggest watching either BBCs 2015 movie of An Inspector Calls and/or the 1954 version with Alastair Sim as Inspector Goole (Poole in that movie, for some reason)
I love the 2015 one SOLELY because the actors are just… AMAZING in that.
(Curse you, copyright laws. Give me AIC public domain NOW instead of having to wait 30 years for it ddi T_T)

GCSE results day 2022: Third of students failed to achieve standard pass grade of 4 in English and Maths
This article is apparently written by someone who doesn't understand how grade boundaries work in England 🙄
There's not a specific pass mark that students have to hit to get a 4, or a certain number of skills they have to demonstrate.
In England, what happens is that everyone takes the exam, the papers are marked, and then grade boundaries are determined, this year I believe these were pinned to 2020 and 2019, but regardless, the point is every year a proportion of students will get less than a 4 because the exam boards have to allocate grades 1, 2 and 3 to some students.
If you want a system where everyone can pass, which yes, would be a great thing, then GCSEs need to change radically. And this article implies it's down to students lacking skills, poor teaching, the economic conditions of students... No, this is the system working as intended...

Geography Paper 2 Tips (based on my past tests):
- If required, always explain the reasoning behind your points (e.g. Why is there no way to dispose of waste?)
- LINK TO THE QUESTION
- Use specific data/stats when you can
- EXPLAIN IMPACTS
- DON'T SKIP GRAPH QUESTIONS ACCIDENTALLY
- Aid: Give more than ONE example... always
- CASE STUDIES >>>>>
- Transport: Always link to air quality and CO2 emissions
- USE THE FIGURES
- Don't just infodump - use the information to LINK BACK TO THE FUCKING QUESTION!!!
- Development = not just economic!!! Talk about changes to infrastructure, education, hospitals etc

i don't think there are words to express the feeling you get when a key topic in an exam that you spent hours learning is only one multiple choice mark.
YES I AM TALKING ABOUT THE FUCKING FOOD TESTS.
