Avra Helvaçi, former field agent of the Arasti Ministry of Intelligence, has accidentally stolen the single most expensive secret in the world―and the only place to flee with a secret that big is the open sea. To find a buyer with deep enough pockets, Avra must ask for help from his on-again, off-again ex, the pirate Captain Teveri az-Haffar. They are far from happy to see him, but together, they hatch a plan: take the information to the isolated pirate republic of the Isles of Lost Souls, fence it, profit. The only things in their way? A calculating new Arasti ambassador to the Isles of Lost Souls who's got his eyes on Avra's every move; Brother Julian, a beautiful, mysterious new member of the crew with secrets of his own and a frankly inconvenient vow of celibacy; the fact that they're sailing straight into sea serpent breeding season and almost certain doom. But if they can find a way to survive and sell the secret on the black market, they’ll all be as wealthy as kings―and, more importantly, they'll be legends.
My thanks to the author for providing an ARC copy.
Alexandra Rowland's Running Close to the Wind is a cozy low-stakes pirate adventure set in the same world of the excellent A Taste of Gold and Iron, loosely connected to it by a plot point. The two books couldn’t be more different, as Running Close to the Wind is funny. Hysterically, being-in-stitches, laughing-on-the-floor funny. It’s so funny that it’s too funny sometimes, but it’s a joy to read a book that doesn’t take itself so seriously while simultaneously delivering some very profound reflections in the more serious segments.
The trio of main characters is a delight, their banter on point as the dynamic between Avra and Teveri expands with the arrival of the mysterious Julian and his wiles. The characters are unapologetically horny, but the book is surprisingly chaste in that regard, while also being incredibly tender in parts. I especially enjoyed the few conversations about having and defending one’s boundaries. The rest of the cast, from the colorful crew to the pirates on the island, were all painted in deft strokes, resulting in vivid characters with so much to say. It really was reminiscent of Our Flag Means Death, as it was pitched, and it was an absolute romp.
The world gets expanded in a really clever subversion of what we know from A Taste of Gold and Iron, showing what the outside world thinks exactly of the choice to keep for themselves the only way to sail safely during a certain time of the year. There’s sea serpents and giant turtles and ghosts that need a complex reference guide to be handled, and it’s all so delightful. This choice to have loosely interconnected stories where the world is explored more and more is an intriguing one, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Running Close to the Wind is a fun adventure with hidden depths.
✨ 4 stars

Rules: tag 9 people you want to get to know better/catch up with and answer the questions below
Last song: The Carpal Tunnel of Love - Fallout Boy (I picked a great band to be into as someone with Auditory Processing Disorder lol)
Last movie: Shutter Island (I know it has a lot wrong with it, but I love movies that delve into the psyche of their characters. Horror has a lot of capability to provide catharsis for dealing with the messy emotions that a lot of other genres avoid)
Currently reading: The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, & Healing in a Toxic Culture by Gabor Maté and Daniel Maté (I love Dr. Maté's writing; it's very informative and enlightening. I've read his book on ADHD [Scattered] and the one exploring the relationship between autoimmune diseases/chronic illnesses and a person's ability to cope with stress and negativity in their lives [When the Body Says No] )
Three ships: Bullsnikt (I can't help myself; I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers and the romance of being accepted as you are [even if what you are is a remorseless killer])
Akihiro/Aurora/Carl (Akihiro has two hands, Marvel) (Something about someone you spent a lifetime with despite not knowing that was what you wanted/needed is just -chef's kiss- and add in someone who you can relate to and who can love you now... The juxtaposition of past lover and current lover, but make it work)
Jubilee/Laura (they were so cute in the X-23 run I wish they were being written by almost literally anyone other than fuckin Leah Williams right now I've been waiting for them to get back together)
Craving: nothing, currently. Am sick 😷 usually craving spicy foods, though
Tagging: @manicr @honmyoseagull @gealach-in-a-misty-world @paigeartsaround @thisiswhatwereupagainst @urgoingtohell @vortalchorus @bothsidesofaquestion @cykelops and whoever wants to join :3

Here are the protagonists to my far middle grade series, Sol and Gealach. They're twin brothers and faes. I recently finished writing book 1 in this series and wanted to draw my boys finally. I plan to do one for each important character in the book. In fact, when I'm done I'm hoping to commission @kalisdice to draw my fae princes. Her art style is just so cute and gorgeous and AH! I'm so looking forward to it now haha, but I gotta control myself and wait. I don't have a lot of characters but they're all so different and their designs might be tricky for me, but I'm hoping to try anyway. Anyway, I hope you'll like Sol and Gealach, I'm working on their cousin right now, her name is Lucera. Sol and Gealach are from my #Writergram account @a_j_torres0 #AmDrawing #ConceptArt #CharacterConcept #Procreate #AnimeArt #AnimeStyleArtist #OC #OriginalCharacter #Fantasy #Faes #AnimeArtist #ArtistOfInstagram #ArtistOfIg #Artgram #ProcreateArt #ProcreateArtist #WIP #Doodles #Sketch #Princes #FaeMagic #Faeries #FaeCourts #MiddleGrade #MG https://www.instagram.com/p/CgCuzPhOTD4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

WIP Tag Game
WIP Challenge 😁❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍❤😁🤩🤩 Rules: tell us the titles of all the WIPs you are currently working on right now and a little about them. Then tag five other writers.
@impishtubist tagged anyone who wanted to do it, and i decided to publically humiliate myself by showing you all how disorganised my writing process is
I tag @irolltwenties, @starcityrebels @gealach-in-a-misty-world, @kiseiakhun & @kittyaugust, and anyone else who sees this and thinks it would be fun!
Unnamed Sterek Remix
I realised Feels Good Doesn't It, one of the first multi-chapter fics I ever finished, was literally a decade old this year, and I thought it would be a fun excercise to try rewriting it and seeing how my writing has improved. And then I reread it and realised that, while there is still a lot about it I like, I had absolutely no idea how to construct a plot back then. So then I spent several hours pouring water into the plot of season 2 to see where it leaked, and ended up a fic that is half 'what if stiles got turned into a creature' AU and half 'what if season 2 made sense though' AU. I have no idea when (if ever) it will be finished, but it's colonised my brain like cordyceps spores and shows no sign of leaving, so maybe it will actually see the light of day eventually.
Unnamed Gotham Ghoul sequel
This one has been 90% done for at least a year, but won't tell me what it needs to actually wrap up the plot. It's an exploration of tim's mental health issues, because that seems to be all I write these days, although being the GG universe this time it has a fun cannibalism twist on the formula! Plus it's dick POV, which I don't write nearly often enough.
Back to the future didn't prepare me for this
The not!fic part of this project is chugging along, but that mostly just exists to advertise the larger (as yet unpublished) project of creating an in-world wiki for an alternate timeline version of the MCU. It's unquestionable the largest thing I've ever written, 200,000 words and counting, and it's going to appeal pretty much exclusively to whatever the crossover of mcu fic readers and blazeball fans is, but i have loved writing it so much that i don't even care that that's probably about 1 person.
the boy with a crooked shadow
this is a dead dove batman/robin vampire AU that wasn't supposed to be an anne rice homage but has definitely turned into an anne rice homage, and i have no idea if i'll ever finish it, but i think what i have so far is some of the best stuff i've ever written
Dick Goes Deep on Daddy Issues
I promise I'm not actually going to call it that, although it's been 10,000 words and well over a year without any better ideas, so maybe I don't promise that. Either way, it's the Dick/Midnighter prequel/side-quel to Pretty Boy, aka 21 pages of dick fucking his own demons for fun and profit
Untitled Constantine de-aging fic
sometimes i write happy fic, and sometimes i write zatanna having to babysit a version of john who hasn't even met her yet and has no idea why talking to him makes her cry. this is one of many WIPs that has a delicious set up and a great opening and yet it steadfastly refuses to develope any actual plot
untitled first time spike/angel/drusilla fic
i hate writing porn, i really do, so why are so many of my best ideas entirely centered around me having to write porn? but spike and angel are so repressed, and so convinced they're the least repressed people on earth, and i'm completely obsessed with the toxic and yet genuinely affectionate family dynamic the whirlwind have, so maybe having to write all that sex will be worth it
untitled tim & dana angst
i just wanted to write tim having a breakdown tbh and the period where he's not robin makes such a good setting for that, and i think dana's a really interesting character, and she makes a good foil for tim in this setting, but unfortunately i need a way for their conversation to end that isn't dana putting tim on house arrest or tim just throwing himself out of the window and i'm not actually sure that's possible, i completely understand why this scene didn't happen in the comics now.
And I Would Die For You A Thousand Times
I'm being optimistic, counting this as a WIP, but I want to be the sort of person who could finish it. that's who i aspire to be as a writer. it's a bbc musketeers athos/porthos/aramis fic with a merlin/every other character in merlin backstory, because lancelot was never actually confirmed to be properly dead and maybe walking through tears in reality makes you immortal, and maybe if you were immortal you'd seek out a regiment and soldiers who remind you of the knights you knew long ago, and then maybe you'd completely fail to tell them you were imortal while also falling despierately in love with them, and maybe, one day, i'll be the kind of writer who can actually write chapters and chapters of pining without it just getting boring.
untitled (and largely unstarted) teen wolf nailbiter au
the universes mesh so well, i don't even really have a plot, i just have the certain knowledge that these universes were meant to be glued together
An embarrasment of sequel ideas for just about every fic i've ever written
i've got let me take you by the hand sequels (and AUs), i've got joyce byers home for wayward teens sequels, i've got way way too many gotham ghoul sequels, i've got serial fiction sequels, i've got together sequels. if you want sequels... probably don't come to be because the chances of me finishing any of them are laughable
this is by no means all of them (my HP critique-as-fic ron x draco story is getting prodded at, and the gotham garage jaytim fic, and i know no one believes me any more but i promise not a catholic thing isn't actually dead!) but it's the most interesting ones, I think.

My characters in my Castle Gealach series are in the UK, so I have to remind myself to use “whisky” and not “whiskey.” Another interesting alcohol fact from my former life as a hotel F&B manager is about champagne. Champagne is a term that can only be used for sparkling wines made in Champagne, France. If it’s not, it’s just sparkling wine.
Hope this helps bring some authenticity to your novels. Happy writing!

gealach-in-a-misty-world replied to your post “I'm a little disappointed in the X-Men & mutant fandom. With Dawn of X...”
For my part I'm far too busy with Ties that bind but I do love the mutant nation premise, I'd love to write something That said: write, dear, it's going to be amazing ❤
I get writer’s block at the drop of a hat these days but I’m staring to feel I should power through on principle XD

Gealach De Mo Shaol (Moon of My Life) A Love and Gang Warfare drabble
@mondaynightrollynch @the-beastslayers-queen @swifteforeverandalways @finnsauroraborealis
(Takes place about a month after Seth set off Sellout and left the Authority. Probably the closest thing to smut I’ll ever write)
Seth watched the LA skylines, almost able to pin point Heaven Court, his heart growing heavy.  “Hey” Finn walked up to him, holding a glass of wine, out of his normal black suit for casual wear.
“H-hey” Seth stuttered, wondering how someone could look so goddamn attractive without trying.
“You ok?” “As much as I can be, wondering about...them” Seth admitted, no point in trying to hide it.
“Ah” Ffinn replied, not really paying attention, watching Violet dancing in their living room, swaying to the music, her blonde hair flying.
All the good girls go to hell 'Cause even God herself has enemies And once the water starts to rise And heaven's out of sight She'll want the devil on her team
“How did you guys meet?” Seth asked, Finn staring into his brown eyes filled with broken innocence.
“My birthday party. Luke hired dancers, I saw her, she saw me. I asked her who she was. She said ‘Anything I wanted her to be’. I told her I wanted her to be my queen” Finn explained, keeping it short.
He remembered every detail. The smell of sex, how tight she was around his cock. Fuck, he loved her from that minute.
Looking back at Seth, who resumed staring out the window with a heartbreaking expression of longing, he knew he wanted to make Seth his prince.
He just needed to be patient

any advice for leaving cert irish?
Hey there! I only did ordinary level so as for higher level I’m not so familiar with the syllabus. I’ll write some posts about it and give you as much help as I can :) The main thing is I think to be enthusiastic. It’s hard when you have six other subjects and all you can think about is passing! But yes try to enjoy what you’re going if you can. Otherwise it’s just boring/your brain shuts off and you don’t remember anything.
The brain learns better when it thinks what it’s learning is important - not just “oh my god i have an exam i have to learn this” - but important for communication. That’s why we always remember how to ask “can I use to bathroom” because if we couldn’t remember how to say it in Irish we couldn’t be allowed go! So you gotta make your brain believe what it’s learning is important.
Also make it memorable. E.g. the word for moon is “gealach” and the word for bright is “geal”, I always remember that now cause the moon is bright. Little things like that, look up word origins, anything that makes things memorable. finally, keep it simple. there could be five ways to say something but you’re better off learning the one that makes the most sense to you / is memorable. don’t try to be too fancy. Anyway I’ll definitely write up some proper posts to help, if there’s anything specific you need let me know!
(also try to make your friends speak irish with you as much as possible, make it fun! this makes the oral exam so much easier. i wish i had done it!)

Chapter 32 of the Ties that bind sequel is now available to read on my AO3 account ^-^
[Read it HERE]
Remember to leave a comment! I do need feedback ^-^
They had an easy enough dynamic in text, but it didn’t fully translate in person, perhaps simply because she regretted begging so unashamedly for help at a time of crisis for his family. Akihiro had always seen her as very proper, a martial and composed leader, building on discipline and self-restraint. One had to be, to survive in an environment like that of the Hand, to excel in it and become an elite assassin. He knew how hard she had driven herself, because he had done the same. And he could glimpse the trauma underneath the facade, beyond what he already knew of her daughter’s death. On an island where almost everyone was severely traumatized, they were kindred spirits.
Chapters: 32/37 Fandom: Marvel (Comics), Marvel 616, X-Men (Comicverse) Rating: Mature Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Daken Akihiro/Johnny Storm Characters: Daken Akihiro, Johnny Storm, Laura Kinney, Gabrielle Kinney, Logan (X-Men), Bellona Kinney, Itsu (X-Men), Romulus (Marvel), Remus (Marvel), Lorna Dane, Carl Valentino, Susan Storm (Fantastic Four)

So uh, a long time ago i got the nickname of Demigod of AUs in the Skype Chat and I made a new one for The Glass Scientists.
Long story short, Hyde is Jekyll’s super hero alter ego and the Society is a bunch of super hero vigilantes trying to protect London. There was this thing called the Nova Core at a science expo and it blew up, infecting the scientists and a chunk of the populace with Nova radiation and thus mutating them. In that explosion, Jekyll should’ve died but Morcant, a different kind of mutant, showed up and saved his life, saying something cryptic about them needing him later. But what for?
Honestly? I don’t know but I’m writing the fic to find out!
Bonus powers under the cut.
Jekyll/Hyde: Wall climbing, spiderman style, switching between two forms, accelerated healing, incredible agility, speed, and strength, slight glow
Lanyon/Tailor: Healing abilities varying from shrinking cancers to suturing wounds with the drawback of exhausting him ridiculously
Rachel/Ninjabread: Can melt into shadows, move silent, and take more hits than a human should be able to
Jasper/Gealach: can shapeshift into any animal, favors wolf and doglike forms
Morcant: Can shapeshift into any material and remain conscious, can also alter materials into whatever she chooses at the molecular level, including healing wounds and stabilizing organs or forms
Griffin: Invisibility, sometimes unpredictable

fic titles meme
I wasn’t tagged by @morethanonepage but I’m doing it anyway.
Look at the most recent 20 (or however many!) fanwork titles on your AO3 account and answer the questions below.
Highschool Never Ends
A Brief History of Gotham City
Together
The Anatomy of a Robin
Serial Fiction
Leprechaun
Mechanic
Halogen
Popsicle
What did the fox say?
Known Me Better
Of Stray Cats & Sharp Suits
Human, Or Something Like It
The Narrow Edge
Pretty Boy
The Light That’s Coming In The Morning
Insert Hell Pun Here
Two Things In Life
The Gaslight Saga
Three Droids Walk Into A Bar
1. How many are you happy with?
I’d say most of them, honestly. Human or something like it I’m genuinely proud of, and the Gaslight Saga still makes me snicker (it’s a batfam twilight au notfic, so the awful pun is definitely the right tone).
2. How many are…not great?
6-9 were written for an event, and I made a concious choice that they would have one-word titles that I wouldn’t think about too hard, because picking titles is really hard and I wanted to get them up as quickly as possible, so they’re not good but I don’t feel too bad about it. What Did The Fox Say is an objectively terrible title, but at the same time I feel like it fits the tone of the fic pretty well.
3. How many did you scramble for at the last minute?
Most of them, honestly. Pretty Boy got named literally as I was uploading it, because titles are hard. Highchool Never Ends I didn’t decide on until pretty much the upload stage, but honestly, it was never going to be called anything else. Insert Hell Pun Here was supposed to have an actual name, but I wrote it as part of the@wipbigbang and they put the placeholder title on the artist sign-up sheet and it just kind of stuck. I even ended up working a reference to it into the fic itself.
4. How many did you know before you started writing/creating, or near the beginning?
Human or Something Like It was named fairly early in the writing process, as was A Brief History of Gotham (although that doesn’t really count because it is in fact just a brief history of gotham, so it’s not so much a name as it is a description). Generally I don’t have titles until very near the end of the process, although I’m working on two unposted WIPs which have actual titles at the moment which exciting.
5. How many are quotes from songs or poems?
Just the three; The Light That’s Coming In The Morning comes from the folk song Sing John Ball, and I still to this day don’t know why it feels appropriate for that fic, but it does. Highschool Never Ends and What Did The Fox Say are both pretty obvious!
6. How many are other quotes?
The Narrow Edge comes from a Cicero quote (”so near is truth to falsehood that a wise man would do well not to trust himself on the narrow edge”) because in as much as there’s a theme at all to it, the theme is false presentation of the self.
Know Me Better is from the Voyage of the Dawntreader, it’s Aslan talking about Jesus, because the fic is about the Pevensie children finding their faith(s) in the real world.
Two Things In Life is from the famous quote “there are two things in life that are inevitable, death and taxes”, but it’s kind of a riff on it because it’s a crackfic about the Malfoy family getting tv liscence fee demands, which as any british person will tell you are far more inescapable and ubiquitous than mere death.
And finally the anatomy of a robin is a misquote but I haven’t been able to work out which of the many books called ‘the anatomy of a ...’ was the original. Possibly it was the anatomy of a murder?
7. Which best reflects the plot of the story/content of the fanwork?
I mean ‘a brief history of gotham city’ is about as on the nose as you can get. Aside from that it’s probably ‘human or something like it’, because it’s a story about a cyborg and a deeply damaged teenager talking about what it means to be a person.
8. Which best reflects the theme of the story?
Despite the fact that I was deliberately going for the easy pickings, title wise, I have a real soft spot for ‘Hallogen’, because I think the simplicity of the title reflects the starkness of the fic. Anatomy of a Robin is pretty good thematically, since the fic is all about what Robin means to Dick, and all the ways that’s different from what Batman and Nightwing mean. The Narrow Edge and Human or Something Like It I’ve talked about already.
Pretty Boy doesn’t relfect the themes of the story but I kind of like that about it, because it’s a title that seems like it tells you exactly what you’re getting, and then you open the fic and find it’s actually a lot of talking and character work mixed in with all the fucking and that’s not really what you ordered, which is pretty much how Midnighter’s feeling about his role in the story and I like that parrallel.
9. Which best reflects the character voice of the story/pov of the fanwork?
Human or something like it is a title Tim Drake would definitely approve of, and Insert Hell Pun Here is actually said by one of the characters (I think it’s Xander but I actually can’t remember) so I guess that reflects the voice pretty well!
10. Which is your favourite title?
Oh gods that’s a hard one. Um, honestly? Probably the Gaslight Saga. It’s such a stupid pun and I’m genuinely proud of it. After that it’s probably Anatomy of a Robin. Probably my favourite fic title I’ve ever written predates this list, and it’s ‘things lost to the fire’ which is a weird nothing of a fic about Cap & Widow wrestling with the legacy of WWII which I’m genuinely proud of. I think what I’ve learned today is that I like my fic titles stark and kind of depressing.
I’m tagging @irolltwenties @starcityrebels @gealach-in-a-misty-world @kittyaugust @kiseiakhun
I’m really bad at remembering which of my tumblr mutuals are also people I follow on AO3 unless the username is the exact same, so if any writers see this and think it would be fun consider yourselves tagged!

Writing Sample: Castle Gealach Series Book 1
Seth was the first to break the silence.
“Now that we’re done, we’d better get back before Daisy’s late to her own wedding!” Seth snickered from beneath his hood.
She shot a dark look at Seth, whose laugh echoed in the evening breeze. Seth pulled down his hood to reveal his sandy hair, which was sideswept across his forehead. His hazel eyes met Daisy’s glare with a bemused, cocky expression. They appeared to be about the same age.
“That’s enough, Seth,” scolded the other figure, lowering his hood. He seemed only a few years older than the other two, but exuded an air of being the one in charge. He had olive skin and thick, dark hair that hung around his face the length of his chin. His dark, brown eyes glanced over to Daisy, who had wrapped her arms around her chest and was shivering slightly. He pulled another cloak out from underneath his and draped it over her shoulders protectively.
“Gracias, Marco,” said Daisy quietly in Spanish, her tongue naturally rolling the “r” consonant. She wrapped the cloak even tighter around herself, despite it being summer.
“Of course. Are you ready to get back?”
Daisy sighed, closing her eyes as if mentally preparing herself. A few moments of silence passed before she opened her eyes and spoke, her tone flat and resigned.
“Seth’s right. I can’t be late to my own wedding.”

About me
This is a side blog; if you get a follow from @ultron-diva, that’s me, it’s my main blog.
Ok, my name is Micaela, but you can call me Mica. I’m 25 years old and I’m from Argentina, though I plan to move somewhere in Europe with my partner once we get our plan sorted. I’m a Sagittarius Sun, Libra Moon and Scorpio Ascendant and INFP :)
My Practice
I’m a Irish Pagan, eclectic witch and diviner, newbie devotee to Na Morrigna and Brighid. I’ve been reading and learning since 2012 more or less... I also like doing DIYs (I’m a crafty person). I also dabble in these areas:
Divination

Runes 🀄️
Pendulums 📿
Tasseomancy ☕️
General spellwork ⚱️
Herbal stuff 🌱
Candle work 🕯
Crystals 💎
Moon workings 🌙
Sigilcraft 🌀
I want to start doing these too:
Scrying 🔮
Automatic Writing 📝
Astragalomancy 🎲
Energy Work⚡️
Spirit Work 👻
Astral travelling 🌅
Lucid Dreaming & dream work 💤💭
Astrology ✨💫
Meditation (trying to do it regularly) 💆🏻
My Shop
I have a small Storenvy called An Gealach where I sell my readings in case you wanted something! Here go the links for all the social media and stuff:

👩🏻‍💻 Facebook
An important note:
Though my username is wiccanery, I am not Wiccan, at least not anymore (I started as a Wiccan here, hence the initial choice). I don’t want to change it because I like the way it sounds and I have countless things linked across my blog (plus many know me as wiccanery so idk I feel a bit iffy changing it). I like to see my username now as a mix between wicce (witch, and not wicca) and the -anery ending because it sounded nice (also the initial reason of choice tbh) xD
Other media
You can also find me as tarot.along on instagram too! More about me in this tag just fyi.

Finally, you can ask me whatever you want, about my beliefs, my opinion on certain topic, or even if you just want to know something about me… I’m open to anything! :)
