Dragon Sombron vs the Twins.

Sombron looks like a Cobra

Nel looks closer to a traditional depiction of a dragon, wearing a collar like a gecko. She still retain some of Sombron's dragonic form feature like the snake tongue, the hand tail, the wings tied in the arm, but she doesn't looks as sneaky

Rafal bear similar features to Nel and therefore the same features as Sombron but the same features distinguishing Nel from Sombron. He however has horns unlike Nel.

Here we can see that Nel and Sombron's fang are different. Sombron's fang are more spaced and thiner and ressembles that of a royal cobra. Nel's fang are much less thiner and are closer. She also appears to have some teeth in the lower part of her jaw unlike Sombron and her fang doesn't shows up when her mouth remains closed.

This is obvious in that pic. She also have a snake tongue like Sombron's.

As you can see, Nel and Sombron also happens to have slightly different jaws.

All I said about Nel applies to Rafal as well. The twins have traits more alike to a lizard then Sombron, who is designed to look like a snake/cobra.

Their tails is also different the Sombron's as they seems to have some spikes on it whereas Sombron has none

And now finally, the biggest example of the difference between Sombron and the twins, comparing the Great Fell dragon form

As we can see, Rafal and Sombron shares similairties. Their arm are now independent from their wings who have rather similar shapes and they both have a hoodie. However, again Rafal doesn't look like a snake. His jaw is more triangular and massive then's Sombron, his tooth are different, the scales on his hoody are different, he doesn't have any of the pointy tips appearing on Sombron's much wider hoody, Rafal's wings are much wider but also, Sombron don't have whatever is happening to Rafal's lower body that looks like some crystal have been growing on his skin. There is also the horns, obviously.

Comparing the spirte makes it even more obvious

However, I noticed that Rafale in this form happens to have slightly similar features to... Lumera.

Those similarities stops at the shapes of the scales, the jaws being more similar to Lumera's, same for the horns and the teeth. And because of this, you might find some similar features to the statues of Lythos garden and the Brodian Bridge supposed to depict Divine dragons.

Those similar features are because of how the Fell twins bear many more similarities to lizard. I didn't managed to identify a proper species, however from what I already noticed : snake/cobra featured are supposed to something reserved to Fell dragon, lizard one to Divine dragons, and the Twins have both.

Now, fresh reminder. At the begining of the Fell Xenologue, Nel says this.

This world was originally a dragon less continent. 1 000 years ago, a dragon was born, the divine ancestor of the Divine dragon and the Fell dragon tribe

In the world where they hail from, Divine dragon and Fell dragon are relative tribe. We don't know what kind of species this first dragon belonged to, however he is called "the Divine ancestor". That aside, Sombron and Lumera are both related as long distant relative through a same ancestor in this world, explaining why they can share some feature. This obviously doesn't apply to our Sombron as he is from another world, therefore, how could he be related in any way to Lumera ? Sombron's comment on comming in Elyos where he mentionned how Elyos was already ruled by dragon treated like gods in his arrival seems to infer that the rival tribe of his world wasn't composed of Divine dragon. I think Sombron's form as a cobra is meant to stand out as pointing him as a stranger.

Nel and Rafal's form having more similar features with lizards would therefore shows that they aren't strangers, but are born to their Elyos as they are canonically representing the entirety of the alternate continent. So I think that Nel and Rafal's dragonic from is supposed to be remniscent of the fact that in this world, they share a blood link with the Divine dragon tribe, unlike our Sombron. Also, I know we don't know how the other Sombron looks like as a dragon since the only way to signify that he is a different Sombron is that his face is never properly depicted (like other Alear) but as far as I recall, Nel comment that Rafal's appearance and hers are supposed to look like Sombron's but we just saw that they are very different and in the boss fight of chapter 26, the boss conversation with Sombron only happens with Sombron in his.... humanoid form. Rafal and Nel obvioulsy recognize his appearance has being similar to the one of their father while Sombron, as always, shows he doesn't give a singly flying sommie as he fails to to identify Nel and Rafal as looking like one of his dead kids. So that's a question that's not going to be answered.

Another thing. Neither Veyle and Alear can turn into dragon and that's because they are hybrid. Remember ? Nel and Rafal have more chance to be pure fell blood. Veyle and Alear have none as Sombron was the sole representant of his species, therefore I think the lack of dragon form for Alear and Veyle is because of their hybrid nature whereas Rafal and Nel's dragon form is one way to assert that they are like Sombron : pure fell blood.

In a nutshell, Nel and Rafal's dragonic form shows that they are like Sombron pure fell blood. However, the different features is supposed to be remniscent of the fact they hail from a universe where Divine and Fell dragon share a common heritage. In this aspect they are different from Sombron who doesn't share such a thing with our Divine dragon and the likes of Alear and Veyle. Sombron's serpentine form is way for him to stand out as comming from another world, the Fell twins as a way for them to be pointed out as being native to Elyos and sharing those features with the native tribe in both universe : Divine one.

As a conclusion.... Fell dragon cools.

The first thing she thinks, sliding into the cab, is that he wasn’t kidding about the horse.

Which, y’know, Shiv doesn’t know why she’s surprised by that, because Kendall wouldn’t know a joke if it stuck its finger in his eye and its dick up his ass. Kendall never grew a funny bone, never inherited Dad’s hard wit or their mother’s snide one, and it was always a point of pride for her. Always felt like it meant something that she could prize a smile from the maws of monsters while Kendall was only ever offered scorn. A gecko that thought it was king cobra. Flat toothed and soft jawed while she was the one with fangs, and she’d loved it as a girl, when she was young and stupid enough to think it meant anything.

The thought now makes her sniff, push herself back into the cracked leather seats, try to remember the instructions the woman on the phone had given her, and yeah, she thinks, Kendall’s not funny, but maybe life is, because it’s there, in the back of that shitty yellow cab at two in the morning, that she feels it move for the first time.

My original folkpunk song Train Track Diorama

its about how my bus stop was being redone so they keep skipping it now when im taking the bus home, so instead i have to take a route where i take the train tracks home.

When walking home i like to listen to folkpunk and sing as loud I want cause ill often be heading home at 1am and be like ah yes karaoke time on the train tracks.

But when its not 1am and brighr out I'll hunt for train spikes since i think they look cool. The most I collected was twenty in one day but i changed it to nineteen because i enjoy lying and think its a funner number to say. I think I have about 30 spikes total. I keep 4 spikes in my bedroom inside the diorma box that i keep random crap i find. Sometimes i take photos and draw whats there. I also pick up random thrown away toys, art supplies and bits and bobs :3

the chorus is kiss me with teeth, rip into me and take a bite, show me a fight. i like to bite :33 monch monch I'm a puppy girl i bite what can i say. I guess its kind of an exploration into my own repressed sexuality of growing up in singapore and having so much of sexuality being taboo, to the point where if i kissed ppl with teeth theyd always be like woah omg ive never kissed someone like that ur such a violent kisser and its just so weird. oh but im new to spiders because in singapore our lil bug eater is a gecko! So growing up in the tropics ur little geckos live in ur house year round and eat ur bugs hide behind paintings and stuff. I was going to add a verse about how my dad tried to train a gecko in his room by killing ants for it and leaving them out and leaving bottle caps woth water out for it. My dad was not a fan of ants. It was very silly of him.

❥You're a fire gecko humanoid, which means you're both fire resistant and also able to head outside the fire kingdom without issue.

❥Turns out your family is indebted to the royal family so you're unfairly sent out to serve them as payment from their behalf.

❥It's terrifying™ since you've heard stories about how evil and malicious the royal family is, not only to each other, but especially to their staff.

❥You're practically fearing for your life by the time you reach the castle grounds. Upon crossing the thresholds you're sent to the prince's chambers as his own personal servant since the last one mysteriously disappeared.

❥There's nothing but bad thoughts flowing through your mind, what kind of terrors does he have in store for you? Make you walk over needles for his entertainment? Clean his shelf stacked with skulls of his enemies? Wash his toilet with nothing but a toothbrush??

❥You're met with he sight of a young man encased inside a glass lantern, it didn't last long since you immediately bow in front of him, anything to avoid upsetting him somehow.

❥"My prince, I present myself as a feeble servant to follow your orders, your cripsy highness... Uh, crispy-ness." Yeah, you'll need to work on that.

❥He eyes you up and down with disinterest, that was until a thought came to mind. "You don't look like you're made of lava, how are you fire resistant without magic?" he asks of you, to which you reply. "I'm a fire gecko your highness, I can walk in these lands as much as I can wander into other territories without flames."

❥This give him an idea. "As your first task I order you to fetch me something..."

❥You're mentally praying to the patron saints of geckoes that wherever he's sending you isn't plagued with monsters or ice, imagine the suprise when the location on your map leads you to Turtle Prince's library.

❥You walk up to the desk with shaking knees, hoping you don't screw this up. "I'm here looking for..." you squint at your own messy handwriting.

❥It takes a few attempts but you manage to sneak back into the Prince's chambers with the book he requests intact, you wanted to ask about it but his expression wasn't friendly in the slightest.

❥He basically orders you to read to him, a task you would've done anyway if he asked nicely. But manners don't seem to be part of his lingo.

❥"And they lived happily ever after, the end." you close the book as you reach the last page.

❥After this single reading seesion the prince mellowed out and made small talk with you about the story. "Do you think they stayed together? There was that one plot hole with the rival but..."

❥He's asking for your opinion?! You? Basically a commoner turned servant.

"I think the rival was more of a metaphor, his death felt so abrupt and nonsensical." you bring out your own headcannons. The prince gives you a glare, almost like saying 'how dare you have an opinion unlike mine' but he then turns thoughtful. "I never thought about it that way." he rubs his chin.

❥It soon became routine, you would fetch items for the prince like a bookclub and in exchange he didn't make you do tedious tasks like wash his floors with a toothbrush. But eventually it wasn't just books, it was sometimes scented candles, or dry twigs, pinecones and grass from the outside world just so he could burn them himself.

❥The more you read to him the more open he became with you, the flame Prince talks to you about his interests, how he ended up in a lamp and the kind of things he'd want to do if he ever got out.

❥"Like what?" you ask.

"Well, I've always heard the Birchwood forests burn lovely at this time of year, it would be nice to spread my legs a little, pick out and smell some wildflowers while I'm at it."

"Kind of drastic, but it sounds nice."

You've grown to appreciate the young man. He's kind of destructive, no thanks to his family locking him up, but he's also very curious about the world around him and it's kinda endearing.

"My prince I have an idea, if I may."

"Go ahead." he allows you to speak.

"What if... We, break you out and have that walk together...?" you twiddle with your fingers as he contemplates the thought.

Flam Prince had a serious expression as he slowly stood up in his lamp shaped prison, resting his hands against the glass. "Are you aware of what my father will do if he catches you?" he warns. You start shaking but still nod relentlessly. "He'll dip you in ice water!" the prince keeps fueling your fear, but you don't go back on your idea. The prince sees enough, relaxing his body along with his facial features that always look so sad and annoyed, but now he's giving you a proper smile. "There's no one else I'd share a stroll with."

Ok so how do you think scientifically accurate irkens would look like?

To give you a little bit of an idea I was talking with my dad the other day and I was explaining what the fandom currently knows about irken anatomy and then he pointed out some inaccurate things in their biology for example being so similar to insects even in metabolism but have cheeks and tongue and teeth, the tallest getting their thumb cut off but still grab things etc… so I wanted to know what were your takes on realistic irkens.

Realistic Irken anatomy is interesting. Because Irkens have a lot of stuff that’s comparable to animals on Earth, but a lot of their biology simply has no comparison.

Irkens are bug-LIKE, but they can’t be bugs. Same goes for every single Earth animal classification because Irkens aren’t a creature native to Earth. Irk is completely different and unlike any biomes found on Earth, so it’s impossible to fit Irkens into an Earth-based classification system. They’re simply too different and have origins that are way too separate from anything on Earth.

Irkens have a lot of biology traits associated with bugs, like the antenna, eyes and strength for example, but at the same time Irkens have multiple things that go against them being bugs. For example, Irkens can sweat, are (presumably) warm-blooded and are made for living in cold environments (going off of how quickly Zim succumbed to the heat in Door To Door while the humans around him were completely fine) and don’t have exoskeletons like you’d normally see on an insect. Irkens have bones inside them.

There’s also the things like the mouth and teeth. Like you said, Irkens have cheeks and tongues and teeth, which bugs don’t have. But at the same time, Irken mouths seem to be very different compared to animals that DO have those things, with Zipper shaped teeth that seem to be all fused together into two teeth, one large zipper tooth on top and one on the bottom. Smeets also only have one singular tooth when they’re born, implying that the smeet tooth eventually falls out and is replaced by the adult zipper teeth.

Irkens also have those worm-like tongues, and they seem to have a lot more control over their tongues than something like a human. Irken tongues aren’t prehensile, but they’re close.

For the Tallest being able to grab things with only two fingers, I’d have to explain that using my headcanons for Irken origins, mostly them descending from winged cave-dwellers that grabbed onto and climbed the rock walls of their cave home used clawed hands and tiny hairs on their hands very similar to how geckos stick to surfaces. Modern Irkens still have these traits and the Tallest, being the only members of Irken society that are allowed to keep their fingers exposed, can use them to effectively grab things without thumbs.

And that’s without getting into detail over things like Irken blood colour and organs. Irken blood is canonically pink, a trait that Irkens share only with a type of undersea worm. And in terms of organs, Irkens have exactly one: the Squeedlyspooch. A superorgan containing everything that the body needs to live including the digestive system, lungs, and heart. I’m like 99.9% sure we don’t have any creatures on Earth with anything similar to a Squeedlyspooch.

Speaking of organs, the Irken respiratory system is very similar to ours judging by how Zim can breath on Earth without needing a spacesuit. So Irkens breathe oxygen just like humans.

Irken skin is capable of killing parasites like lice and ticks, presumably being coated in or secreting something that’s toxic to them, but is harmed by the pollutants found in most Earth liquids and the preservatives in meat.

Irken muscles are also very different from anything on Earth. In canon, an Irken can lift over three times it’s body weight with no upper limit being specified. I headcanon that upper limit as being about four times the Irken’s body weight. I also headcanon Irk as having twice the gravity of Earth. So Irkens evolved to deal with much higher gravity than anything did on Earth, and their muscles reflect that, being far more efficient and effective than the muscles of any creature on Earth simply because those extra efficient muscles are a necessity to any life on Irk. They probably look completely different compared to human muscles.

Irken ears are also pretty much unique. Irkens have an inner ear that they use to hear things, but they have no earholes, implying that the inner ear doesn’t have or need any. I headcanon that Irkens can also hear using their antenna, but it’s more of a redundant, secondary way of hearing that isn’t as effective as the inner ear.

So to sum up my vision of a scientifically accurate Irken:

A whole bunch of bug traits (antenna, simple eyes like a spider and a diet consisting primarily of sugar and other raw carbohydrates for example), but they aren’t bugs

Clawed hands and feet originally meant to grab onto rock walls when Irkens were cave-dwellers

Hands also have microscopic gecko-like hairs on them that were also originally meant to grab onto rock walls, but nowadays are only really used by the Tallest to grab things without thumbs

Warm-blooded and made for cold temperatures, with the Irken quickly overheating if placed in an environment that’s too hot

Capable of sweating to cool down, but this looses effectiveness at a lower temperature compared to human sweat

Smeets are born with one tooth that eventually falls out and is replaced by the Irken’s adult, zipper-shaped teeth

Has a lot of control over its tongue. It isn’t prehensile, but it’s close

Pink blood

One superorgan that preforms all the actions needed to keep the body alive

Breathes oxygen and is perfectly fine in Earth’s atmosphere

Muscles are specifically designed for an environment with way more gravity than Earth and are extremely powerful when compared to the muscles of an Earth creature, being able to lift up to four times the Irken’s body weight

Inner ear with no earhole

Skin is somehow toxic to small parasites like ticks, fleas and lice

Skin also burns upon contact with the toxins in Earth water and meat

Generally has a wide variety of different traits from all sorts of different creatures that make Irkens unclassifiable as one singular type of animal or insect. They’re too different and separate from anything on Earth, primarily because they aren’t native to Earth to begin with

I think the ending + movie of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is interesting from a Doylist perspective partly because of how rushed it was - sad as that is from a fan perspective.

In the same way filler and gecko endings came from anime being made from manga that hadn't finished yet, we're seeing storytelling happen under constraints of a) stories with ongoing arcs and character development being popular in western animation right now b) studios still cancelling them with no warning and leaving a minimal amount of episodes to wrap up. We're seeing a lot of slow build up to suddenly fast-paced endings.

So rottmnt goes from being halfway through the second season of a three season story to having six episodes to wrap up. Under those circumstances it does remarkably well! A lot of minor threads - Dr Noe's quest for Raph's tooth, whatever was up with Jupiter Jim's working movie props and yokai sidekick - simply get dropped, but the overall emotional arc of Splinter reconciling with his own mistakes and with his family both past and present comes through loud and clear. The tales of the hidden city episodes coming so soon before the end set up Splinter having reconciled with Draxum and his own feelings about being a mutant too, a good thing to get in before the finale.

Talking of tales of the hidden city, this also lands us on a fairly complete arc for Donnie, almost by chance. Witch Town both contextualised the issues he'd been having with mystic and let him move on from them. I think in a less rushed ending he would have starting working on getting used to mystic powers rather than gone straight to using ninpo with no problem having always used tech before - but on an emotional level it works. It means Donnie is going into learning ninpo without hang ups about it so the fact that he uses it with ease doesn't feel wrong.

Mikey's arc also ends in... kiiiind of not a bad place. We learn why he's so intent on redeeming Draxum, that he feels like he needs to justify his own creation, and he manages to make Splinter understand and get his parents to reconcile. We don't deal with whether Mikey really needs to justify his existence, or whether he's being too hard on the rest of his family by pushing this on them for his peace of mind. Worse, the movie can't even hint at resolutions here because Netflix wanted to focus on characters that were franchise wide and not Rise specific so Draxum gets at most a cameo.

Raph and Leo's hidden city episodes aren't as deep and we end with them in an interesting place because they're mid character arc. Season two was, iirc, meant to end with Raph and Leo as co-leaders. Maybe season three would have worked towards Leo taking leadership alone. The result is that they're in an emotional place where that would make sense as a solution but not yet in a place where the solution has even started to present itself.

Raph starts the series pretty gung-ho about leadership. It's a chance to boss his little brothers around! He gets comments about being "the guy who's always telling us he's our leader" from Donnie. Then the show wears on. Villains get more dangerous. Leo nearly dies in Bug Busters from a call Raph makes. The consequences of failing missions get worse, too. Raph starts taking it all more seriously, becoming increasingly anxious about his brothers and less able to trust that they'll be okay if he's not right there to pick up the slack. He also gets more resentful towards them for making him worry like this. Pizza Puffs shows it best. Raph's feeling trapped by the role he started out wanting.

Leo's behaviour meanwhile is getting increasingly wild. I wish we had had an equivalent to Donnie and Mikey's hidden city episodes where he explained what was going on with him, because it's hard to parse exactly where he's coming from. But he's picking fights with Donnie in a way he didn't in season one. He's refusing to communicate with the team, sometimes outright lying to them. If he's upset that they don't trust him he seems to be dealing with it by being as untrustworthy as possible.

I do think it's a set up for Leo moving towards finding a role on the team that a) makes him feel fully part of it b) requires him to behave more responsibly. Currently he's pulling away, trying to be better than his brothers instead of work with them, and that's what he needs to deal with.

Then the series ends and the focus is necessarily on wrapping up the plot, plus Splinter's relationship with his sons which has been shown as loving but somewhat broken throughout the show. We're rooting for them to understand each other better and pull through to win together and they do. In the most literal-symbolic way possible.

Raph also gets his feelings dealt with as part of the ending. We had him in a bad place and then - since we get no time for anyone, including Leo himself, to realise he's capable of leading - Raph has to remain the leader through the finale. We see him deal with his belief that he has to take care of everyone and how isolated it makes him feel, and learn to open up to his brothers more and rely on them too.

This does have the odd side-effect that the finale seems to show Raph becoming a better leader right before leadership is taken away from him. But the fact that Raph was overwhelmed and stressed by the job is made evident.

Then the movie gets used to tie up the emotional loose ends Raph and Leo's interrupted arc gave us.

One interesting thing about the movie is that despite a lot of its plot being based in this struggle over leadership and Raph and Leo's feelings about it no one ever mentions who the leader is. After seeing one of the deleted scene animatics I kind of get that, though.

The animatic has Raph claiming he never wanted to be leader and just felt he needed to take care of his brothers - which is very much a retcon of Raph's arc in season one. I think ultimately everyone's feelings about leadership were just too complicated to sum up in the movie in a way that wasn't reductive.

Or maybe Netflix just didn't want series specific plot points referenced. Especially since Raph having been the leader until recently is very much a Rise thing, whereas Leo and Raph having fights about Leo's leadership ability is very franchise wide. Even if it's not usually about Leo failing to take things seriously.

But the movie does, imo, a very good job of condensing the story and making the character arcs make sense despite the finale and the declaration of Leo as leader having happened in the middle of them.

Leo's wild behaviour - put on hold for the finale - returns, with the defeat of Shredder and being named leader now being added to outwitting Big Mama as reasons he's riding high. The degree to which it's driven by arrogance, insecurity, or a mixture of the two is still debatable, but it's the continuation of the arc he was on.

Raph's anxious resentment is still there, amplified by the fact that he should be able to get a break now he's not leader, but Leo won't step up and take the weight off his shoulders.

It moves things around. Leo gets thrown in at the deep end and has to realise that he's capable of being a good leader after he's already been leader for a few months. As well as learning that he has to work with his team instead of measuring himself against them and judging who did "better" at everything.

In the end I think it's fascinating how they told a good story around so many constraints.

Green Guardians: Peppermint Patties

Did you know? MCC 7’s Green Guardians hold the current record for most coins scored in a single event, with 25’346!

Time for another MCC dessert: Green Guardians Peppermint Patties!

They may be the Green Geckos now, but my idea for this predates the change so I’m considering it valid lmao. This was a lot of fun to make and introduced me to coloured melting chocolate and candy food dye.

The white chocolate makes these a little sweeter than you would expect for a peppermint patty and they go great with a hot cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate!

Prep: 20 mins*            Cook: 1h 40mins            Total: 2 hrs     

* Can vary based on how fast you can trace the pattern at the end. I recommend doing this before you start.

Ingredients (makes ~28):

½ cup (120 ml) sweetened condensed milk

½ tsp. (2 ml) peppermint extract

2 ½ cups (300 g) powdered sugar

2 cups (340 g) bright white melting chocolate wafers*

3 tbsp. (44 g) all-vegetable shortening

40 dark green melting chocolate wafers**

7 orange chocolate melting wafers**

10 white chocolate melting wafers**

Black candy colouring or ~6 black chocolate melting wafers

* I used Sweet Tooth Fairy brand.

** I used Merkens brand.

Prepare a baking tray with a piece of parchment paper.

Combine the sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract in a medium bowl (left).

Using an electric mixer on medium-low speed, add the powdered sugar until it comes together into a non-sticky workable dough (right).

NOTE: The dough cannot be sticky at all for this. Any amount of stickiness will make it a nightmare to cut out the circles in the next step. This should take most if not all of the 2 ½ cups of powdered sugar.

Lay out a piece of parchment paper as a work surface and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Place the dough on the parchment and sprinkle a little more powdered sugar on top.

Roll out the dough into a ½ -inch (~1.5 cm) thick circle. Using a 2-inch (5 cm) diameter circular cookie cutter, cut out as many peppermint circles as possible (top).

Transfer the peppermint circles to the prepared baking skeet (bottom left). Cover and place the tray in the freezer to chill for at least 10 minutes.

After chilling, cut each patty in half (bottom right).

While waiting for the patties to chill, melt the bright white melting chocolate wafers and shortening using either a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl. To melt them in the microwave, follow package directions.

Dip each patty in the chocolate one at a time. To dip them, submerge the bottom half of one in the chocolate and drizzle more on top. Lift the patty out of the chocolate with a fork and tap the side of the bowl to create a smooth surface. Scrape the fork against the lip of the bowl to remove excess chocolate. 

Return the dipped patties to the prepared baking sheet (left). Once they’ve all been coated, return the tray to the freezer until the chocolate has set, ~15 mins.

Once the chocolate has set, trim the edges of the patties using a knife (right).

Flip the parchment with the traced pattern (see end of post) over so side with the pen/pencil/sharpie is on the bottom. Lay it flat on a movable (if possible) lighter surface so the pattern is visible and tape down the corners to keep it from moving.

To make the dark green: melt together 30 dark green, 6 orange, and all black chocolate wafers in the microwave in 10 second bursts for 30 seconds, stirring each time.

If using black dye instead, melt the dark green and orange wafers together and then stir in 7 drops of black candy dye (top left).

Let the melted chocolate sit for 10 minutes to cool down and let the colour set. After cooling, transfer 2 tbsp. into a decorating bag or into the corner of a ziplock bag. Snip the bag just enough for the chocolate to flow easily when you squeeze the bag, then snip off a little bit more.

Keeping constant pressure on the bag, trace the pattern on the template, going around the edge first. For a smooth look, try not to spread the chocolate too much with the piping bag. Instead, once the border has been traced, pipe a larger line of chocolate in the middle and lightly tap the parchment paper to let the chocolate spread (top right).

You’ll likely still need to spread the chocolate a little using the piping bag, but try not to do it much.

Transfer the parchment paper, and the surface it’s on, if possible, to the fridge to set while you prepare the light green.

To make the light green: melt together 10 dark green, 10 white, and 1 orange chocolate wafers using the same method as the dark green (bottom left).

Let the melted chocolate sit for 10 minutes to cool down and let the colour set. After cooling, transfer all of it into a decorating bag or into the corner of a ziplock bag. Snip the bag just enough for the chocolate to flow easily when you squeeze the bag.

Keeping constant pressure on the bag, trace the pattern on the parchment with only one line of lighter green (bottom right).

Return the parchment paper, and the surface it’s on, if possible, to the fridge to set, about 5 mins.

TIP: You can try and use a toothpick to smooth the ends of the line of light green against the dark green.

Remove the patties from the freezer and dip just the edge of the flat side in the remaining dark green, re-melting the chocolate in the microwave if needed (left).

Attach the chocolate irises to the rest of the eye using a little bit of melted chocolate (right).

And then you’re done, enjoy!

I’m really happy with how these turned out! It’s surprisingly easy to make peppermint patties and I loved being able to put my spin on them and make another dessert for MCC.

The dark green I made is a little darker then I would like, but I think I fixed it in the instructions given.

Catfishing, a Shallura Fic

Here’s a shallura fic that I’m working on~ I’ve been pulling it up every October or so and keep getting stalled, so here’s the opening. I hope you like it!

Quick summary: Witch!Allura summons Cat!Shiro to be her Familiar. But of course, he lied on his online profile. Still, she tries to keep her head up.

Allura read the directions three times over.

There was always a nervous pit in her stomach when it came to new spells. A frizzle of excitement at her fingertips; like her powers were ready to pour out of her at any moment. Allura knelt down on a blanket, as to not hurt her knees. She inhaled, steadying her hands before drawing the circle. She put the sigils on the inside, then laid alternating tributes of snowflake obsidian and Oreos over them.

Allura was glad her potential partner had sweet tooth like she did. The online profile was fitting most of her criteria in a Familiar; not too old to feel babysat by them, not too young she feels like a babysitter, a shared interest in astrology, a patient disposition, and experience in potion making.

Her dear Uncle Coran would complain that there was no fun in it anymore. The elder used to slapdash a Summoning together just to see whatever popped up. While ignoring whatever popped up was angry they were pulled away from something.

The internet expanded their worlds, yet made it seem so much smaller. Modern society didn’t know about the actual power she could wield; and Allura liked it that way. She was merely a young woman who practiced her religion. It was comforting, keeping the rituals passed down from her mother and grandmother. If the key-chains she made were never lost, or her mugs kept tea at just the right temperature, that was just a bonus.

There was only so much one could do alone, which was why she sought a Familiar. Their heightened senses and connection to magic itself aided a witch in their studies. A partner that understood their ability in its fullest, and helped it grow.

She had been trying with several these past few months. Her poor neighbors thought she was bringing her veterinary work home with her; an absentminded parrot, an overactive Xoloitzcuintle dog, a string of indecisive geckos and distracting budgies. But as Coran pointed out; Allura was a traditionalist. When she saw the listing for a house cat, it was like fate.

Allura chanted the spell softly under her breath, and placed her hands on the markings. There was a surge of power in her hands, the vertigo made her head spin. And suddenly it was over. Allura opened her eyes.

A black and white cat was in the center of the circle, as promised. Wide gray eyes were looking at her, it’s body tensed for a moment, as if ready to jump away. The profile may need updating – the picture promised a classic tuxedo, but she could see sprinklings of white hairs here and there. She could chalk it up to stress, or an outdated photo. Then she saw his front paws. There was a prosthetic made of gray and black plastic, with a shield up to his shoulder, and small parts molded to look like toes. That wasn’t typical, most feline prosthesis only had a nub to walk on. The problem was that he didn’t let her know.

She’s met with her share of liars over the internet. The Xolo dog “forgetting to mention” he hadn’t had experience in potions, a Witch and Familiar trying to add a third, an errant Demon Hunter (as if Demons existed)...it was a wonder she still tried at all.

An injury like that would require some permanent changes to her home, even if he keep his prosthetic on. Ergonomic door handles, specialized cutting boards, maybe even a shower chair? At least she already had an electric jar opener. (And Coran said it was a waste! Well, it paid for itself in pickles and kimchi more than a partner ever could!)

Allura was getting ahead of herself, as usual. She turned to the side, picking up the contract she had prepared. The unusual terms made even more sense now. “Good afternoon,” she bowed politely. “I am Allura of Clan Altea, and I ask for your partnership as a Familiar. I understand your request and have modified the standard terms.”

The Familiar blinked, then seemed to recover and bowed in turn. “Good morning Allura.” his voice was deep, held steady by composure. “I am Shiro, and I...would like a minute.” he backed up, picking up the Oreos and the contract. They seemed to disappear out of view behind him. An essential trait of a Familiar. “Do you have a bathroom I could use?”

Her welcoming smile didn’t falter, “Yes, through that hallway, first on the right.”

Shiro nodded, his feline body gracefully dipping before nearly running out of sight.

Allura waited until she heard the door close and then she sighed and stood up. This was starting out spectacularly. .
