3: what random objects do you use to bookmark your books?

Usually I have bookmarks from the bookstores, or I’ll use the receipt. Or a ticket stub. I keep concert ticket stubs in a box by the bed, which is handy.

11: what’s an inner joke you have with your friends?

Ok - here’s one that will take a little setup.

At the beginning of my big epic D&D campaign set in an alternate-reality Europe. The party is part of a mercenary company that’s maintaining the peace in English-occupied Gascony during the early part of the Hundred Years War. The party is approached by the retinue of a Milanese nobleman making his way back home, escorting his brother’s prospective bride there - they want some additional security making the journey back over land. The terms of the agreement are going to be worked out over a dinner hosted by the nearby convent of Ste. Therèse, dedicated to the worship of Seraphel, the goddess of love and beauty, and the party is invited as the honor guard for their captain and his officers. They’re advised by their captain to behave themselves, say please and thank you, etc. to keep on their hosts’ good side.

Now - adherents of Seraphel are encouraged by their faith to be free and generous with love and affection, and many of them are remarkably pretty. So when the party arrives, and sees who’s hosting and are greeted by them, the men in the party get shit-eating grins on their faces and say “please?” just like they were told.

So now, within our group of friends, when the conversation starts getting peppered with innuendo, someone inevitably says “please?” and everyone cracks up.

18: tell us about something dumb/funny you did that has since gone down in history between you and your friends and is always brought up.

The “please?” story is funny and gets brought up often, but another one would be the story where I tried to make bacon for the first time at Nikki’s shared house during college. I naively turned up the heat to the highest setting because more heat means it cooks faster, right? So Nikki comes back in from the adjoining balcony to a house full of greasy smoke and me holding up a long, thin charcoal briquette and asking… “is this done?” Will never live that down.

21: talk about your favorite bag, the one that’s been to hell and back with you and that you love to pieces.

I’m rather fond of my N7 (Mass Effect) messenger bag, which I take pretty much everywhere, generally either carrying my laptop or geeky RPG books, as well as a zillion charging cables. It’s been to so many gaming conventions now I’ve lost count - and because it goes where the target audience is, it always gets rave reviews.

29: what’s something really cute that one of your friends does and is totally endearing?

Someone very special to me gets kinda bouncy when she’s happy. It’s totally adorable.

36: which band’s sound would fit your mood right now?

I’m going to say Steve Vai - something particularly in a major key.

44: when was the last time you remember feeling completely serene and at peace with everything?

I can only really get that away from work and can be made to forget that work is there. Getting away from home helps sometimes, because that puts chores out of sight and out of mind. But the last vacation time for Christmas was pretty good for just chilling out and feeling right about things.

59: what’s your favorite myth?

It’s something Greek, I’m pretty sure. Not sure if it’s Heracles or Perseus.

Representation In Media

From things that have happened and from things as they exist and from all things that you know and all those you cannot know, you make something through your invention that is not a representation but a whole new thing truer than anything true and alive, and you make it alive, and if you make it well enough, you give it immortality. -Ernest Hemingway

When growing up I barely found many role models who talked like me, looked like me, or acted like me. I didn't see through representation until 6th grade. Granted that's better than many women, but they didn't come from your regular characters. The characters that had the most impact on me were cartoons. Cartoons like Fillmore, Total Drama, sixteen, and other numerous shows that turned me into the person I currently am: A headstrong goth, geeky, black, female. The showed representation of the role-models I wanted to become and who I am. I also started to understand how these groups in the media are portrayed.

BEING A BLACK FEMALE

One of the most interesting things I have observed (In my short period of life) is the change of how black women are shown in media. I remember learning in elementary school that my Afro or my braids were seen as messy or not seen as beautiful and so for a while I would resolve to straighten my hair. Then, in 7th grade, the way my natural hair was seen, changed. People started to see my coils and braids as desirable. My conclusion at this age was that famous celebrities started to wear their hair with pride. And how non-black or people not of color would wear it as a trend. Controversial but, that's what I saw as a young girl of color. I was confused because I was used to not seeing my hair in the media or girls with curvy builds. I wonder during that time period what did others see? I started to see shows with black supporting characters wearing curls. So what happened? When did my hair in mass media become a trend? This question and more became frequent in my middle school years. Of course, it wasn't like I never saw people who looked like me in media. I saw Beyonce, Tiffany Haddish, Nikki Minaj, and even Michelle Obama; but even though I saw them in real life how I saw them in movies, and social media I saw arguments from both sides. For example, In 5th grade, I had a project I had two people I wanted to be Mae C. Jemison and Michelle Obama. I chose Michelle because of how powerful and smart she is and how beautiful she was. However, I was surprised when I heard people called her "ugly" or how she "looked" like a man. I was distraught and hurt to hear my classmates and their parents saying such rude things about my role-model. I was distraught. I was used to hearing people in my community saying only good things about Mrs.Obama. I decided to let this go because I knew how I saw her. But, I wanted to know why people said that, after all, I never heard anyone saying such things about Jackie Kennedy or any first lady previously. This question of how black people are perceived in the media re-surfaced later in 8th grade. I was having a conversation in the car with my aunt. She asked when in movies how are black women seen in movies (when they aren't made to pander to the black community). Her friend said they are seen as loud, talkative, and hot-tempered. I thought about this. When I saw a movie with a black female they were always seen as the best friend. They were shown as smart; I saw them as the classic black girl stereotype. They tended to not be in high paying jobs, they shouted, they would curse, they would be lustful. Not, that there is anything wrong with this arch type in media they tend to add personality to a show or film. However, I rarely saw a black female in film or TV often stray from this. And shows kids in my generations see as revolutionary like That's So Raven would also fall back to this character type. Me being the nerd I am I had to also analyze cartoons as well. However, this is when my search became foggy and convoluted. Black female characters in cartoons were rare. This started a whole new discussion.

BLACK FEMALES IN CARTOONS

Hi, I am a cartoon addict. I admit it. Whether they be Japanese, French, Canadian, or American I love them. But, I rarely see myself in them. Even if Black female characters exist in a cartoon show, they are often voiced by the same person: Cree Summer. Look at your favorite shows with a black female: Rugrats, Bratz, Code name: Kids Next Door, Danny Phantom, The Proud Family, and etc. Look in the imdb I posted below.

It makes me think how rare they are. And I don't recall many shows with one of the lead characters being a black female. Maybe Keesha from Magic School bus, Valerie from Josie and the Pussycats, Susie Carmichael from Rugrats, Shana from Jem, Storm from X-men, or any black female in The Proud Family. Makes you think.

These are characters are so rare and often aren't seen in every episode. So to see a female of color in a show makes me want to watch just to see someone who looks like me. Which is why I ended up getting into the show Wakfu. Amalia is a woman of color and a princess. For anyone who likes adventure cartoons with a hero's quest I highly recommend Wakfu (watch it in the original language: French. It's so much better than any of the dubs). Amalia is a princess and a prominent leader in her kingdom: Sadida. Not only that she fights in battle with her friends and is a lead character. She's a great role model but, I didn't watch this as a younger kid but, a high schooler. Isn't it important as a child to see yourself in the shows you watch? This is why a character like Garnet is so important! Even if she is an alien, she is presented as a woman of color with an Afro. To see yourself in a show gives self-worth, confidence, and self-identity. SELF IDENTITY IN CHARACTERS

As I said earlier cartoons helped shape me as a person. I loved shows Like The Addams Family, the Munsters, and Sabrina The Teenage Witch. I do say cartoon characters like Raven from Teen Titans, Penny from the Proud Family, Nikki from Sixteen helped make the person I am. These characters ended up being the people I related to the most because they had the persona I was and still am. I am an edgy teen who loves candelabras like Raven. I am a try hard like Penny. And I sound like Nikki vocal and speech pattern-wise. These cartoon characters were who I ended up identified with not my role-models, not the stereotypical characters in movies or TV. I liked cartoons, I liked Sam from Danny Phantom because she was funny, caring, and headstrong. As kids grow up (including me now) we must find people we want to be who we connect to. They don’t need to be found in a history book they can be a man-made creation like a cartoon. A cartoon was made for somebody, so enjoy them. If you find someone you identify with it will tell you more about yourself then you may realize. For example how I entered the Gothic community was through TV and literature and then I researched stumbled upon the music this sub-culture loves and I fell in love with it. It started with Morticia Addams Sam, Gwen, and Raven; this ended with me becoming what I loved.

CONCLUSION

So, the importance of variety in media is important. Not just cartoons; you should want to see yourself in media and there is nothing wrong with identifying with characters. It’s okay to want to be represented in media. A show like The Boondocks is revolutionary, Michiko & Hatchin are important, shows like American Dragon are important, movies like Crazy Rich Asians are important because they represent YOU. They are society. Not everyone is a mainstream, heterosexual, cis-gendered, male (If you are that’s pretty neat!), so the representation of YOU is important in media. I’m glad people love my hair and I see it in films and other mass media. I am happy I see bisexuals in TV shows like because I feel less stigmatized when I see bisexual on the screen( if you didn’t know Eleanor is a bisexual). I am happy to see me in the media and I am happy to see YOU in the media. Representation in the media is important.

A little dive into Ashton’s pinterest

I’m not sure if anyone is going to be interested in this long long loooooooong rant ... but if ever.. !

Well if it’s really Ashton’s.... Cause I can’t be 100% sure, but if it’s not him let just say it’s a very good imitation. In case it’s actually his I won’t give the link, but i don’t think it’s too hard to find anyway... (i wasn’t even really looking for it....)

Aesthetic Board Analysis

All of the Pins below are directly from a the Board called “//SOUL OF ASH//”. There is much more, and i just picked a few that sparkled my very own interest, so i wouldn’t say it’s necessarily representative, but the whole aesthetic theme is there.

The description of this Board goes as : “A misunderstood mind with the catastrophe that was his mentality, formed by stardust and in love with the galaxy. | Black and Red. Some pictures belong to me. Aesthetic board for myself. Skulls, crowns, kings, wolves, Lana Del Rey, leather jackets, spray paint, feathers, birds(ravens, sparrows, doves), cameras, royalty, polaroids, black and white photos, green eyes, motorcycles, books, glasses, pianos, roses, strong coffee and coffee shops, cafes in cities, rings, strong alcohol, crosses, occasional trench coats/blazers, chess, smoke/fog, dark hotel rooms, unfinished handwritten letters, science, sarcasm, lighters, neon”

A lot of the pins are directly uploaded by the user and a large part of the rest comes from tumblr (and Ashton said he had a private tumblr and that we would never find it, so maybe it’s actually him?), the others comes from random website or are re-pinned.

First things first, I was a bit surprised by the amount of “daddy” pins. I mean we joke about him being “daddy” all the time and all the sexual connotation behind it too, but I wasn’t expecting him to be so blunt about it and so ... into it? (Once again, if it’s really him, that is...)

Another theme that is largely present in his pins, is this tormented love. Kinda trapped between ardent desire and unrequited feelings. Although the pronoun ‘her’ is present a couple of time, i notice some “he/him” as well, but i don’t know if he’s referring to himself or someone else.

There are quite a lot of dark messages spread around this board too. like “I laugh with many but don’t trust any” or “Pain is fuel”, “Endure & survive”, “LOST”, “I’ve been having a bad day for the past several years”, “we grow from the worst”, etc. Which sounds like him quite a lot, in his dark hours, and this board is pretty dark.

A few Pins also acknowledge his fear of being or becoming addict to alcohol, but also a pessimist state of mind like ‘fuck this i’d rather been drunk’ and present aesthetic pictures of strong alcohols...

A couple of coffee related Pins as well, because hey, it’s definitely not Ashton if there’s no mention of coffee somewhere.

You also get he wants to be a good man, but don’t want his kindness to be taken for granted or abused. So it’s like a battle in himself between being good and being strong.

‘Ashton’ (once again not 100% sure) refer to himself as a wolf and a lone wolf a lot in his Board. And there not a lot of people in it. There are aesthetic picture of him in black and white (that have been seen elsewhere, so it’s no proof). But there’s only two pictures of him with other people. One at a party with Ivy Levan and Zakk Cervini. And the other... Is this famous Lashton one :

I grouped it with a couple of other pins that made me think about Luke or Lashton. And we know since Nikki’s (lashtondaydream) fanart that Ashton does like this picture a lot. Plus, while all the other pins have no caption at all, this one does. and say “// my brother //”. And that’s why i think it might actually be Ashton’s account. And i’m really glad that he pined this!

Last, but not least !

He has another board which is called “// dances with tears in his eyes //”, that remind me of Luke a lot. The aesthetic is pretty different from the rest, it’s GOLD. I’m pretty sure i’m not the only one who associates Luke with gold... The Board is very small, only 6 pins, but there’s a lot.

So the title directly come this latter pin, but he changed the ‘your’ into ‘his’ which accentuates my believes that it’s about Luke. And I think it’s really cute that he has like “capsule of luke” on his board. (and of course, he doesn’t have one for anyone else) and that it features two red roses...! just saying

There are other board with other topic, one about “geeky stuff” like comic and tv shows, another one about fashion and style, one with only cute animals! etc. but it doesn’t serve my speech here so i won’t comment it. There’s a board with quotes from books that can be pretty interesting, but it’s also very cryptic.

This is already too long. I don’t know if anyone has read it up to here ^^’ i’m sorry. I had quite a lot of fun digging into this account and i wanted to share it with you. Tell me what you think about it? Do you think it’s his account? Let’s talk ! :)

Now, I know that no one really wants to join a brand new association, I get that. It may take you a little longer, at first, to get all the co-op or workshop suits while we’re still trying to fill our ranks and grow. BUT it’s our genuine hope that if you give us a chance, that along the way you find yourself in a warm, welcoming community with some awesome, geeky friends.

We’re a new association. But we’re not new to Love Nikki and we’re not new to associations in general.

Coming into a new guild also means that you can help shape the future of it. We’re always looking for new suggestions and ideas and there’s a constant survey link open in our discord for feedback. So if you love geeky things (or even if you don’t that’s okay), want to be active (but without the stress of top guilds), and if the idea of a fun, friendly community seems like something you want, please apply!

—We’re a growing association currently on level 9 and growing every day.

—We aim to maintain a minimum of 60-77 association activity in-game. Which you can obtain by doing your free tries every day.

—If you can’t make it, you can just tell us, we get that this is just a game and that life comes first.

—No minimum level/wardrobe requirement, as long as you’re dedicated to being active in-game. Beginners are more than welcome here, and there will always be someone to help answer any questions you might have!

—Currently, we have a five star ranking daily on the commissions.

—Making it to at least one Styling contest per week is a requirement.

—Saturdays and Sundays 12:30 to 13:30 server time.

ONE DAY AT A TIME:

my all-time ultimate fave character: I’m completely obsessed with Schneider but also Penelope means so much to me, I can’t pick

a character I didn’t used to like but now do: Schneider. i didn’t hate him but for a lot of S1 he just did not impress me much

a character I used to like but now don’t: Victor

a character I’m indifferent about: Jill

a character who deserved better: most of them? Schneider from his parents, Penelope and Elena from Victor, all the Alvarezes from a stupid racist world…I love them all so much. gonna go with Carmen, though, who lost her parents and also just never came back :(

a ship I’ve never been able to get into: Penelope/Jill

a ship I’ve never been able to get over: Penelope/Schneider HELLO

a cute, low-key ship: Elena/Syd are my adorable geeky faves

an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it: I actually liked Pen/Victor right up until I didn’t. They have good chemistry and you can see why they worked, before it fell apart.

a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened: Schneider/Nikki

my favourite storyline/moment: Penelope’s mental health arc in 2x09. They handle it so beautifully and it hurts me to watch it and I cry every time. Just like the season 2 finale, it also reveals great new layers for the characters, which I adore: Schneider turns out to be the kind of friend who doesn’t lash out in a fight, Lydia struggles hard to understand her daughter and keeps trying to help, and Penelope becomes everything to me and shows who she trusts and why.

a storyline that never should have been written: Nikki is ick. But mostly, I still wish Victor’s S2 return hadn’t involved him convincing Alex to lie to everybody and see him in secret. I get that he used their time together to try and talk sense into his father, but it still just bothers me.

my first thoughts on the show: hey this is cute why am i crying?

my thoughts now: the world and most of all me NEEDS this show to exist and if it doesn’t get a S3 i’m gonna pull a penelope and ‘accidentally’ set something on fire.

GILMORE GIRLS:

my all-time ultimate fave character: Lorelai

a character I didn’t used to like but now do: Logan

a character I used to like but now don’t: Christopher

a character I’m indifferent about: Taylor

a character who deserved better: April

a ship I’ve never been able to get into: Rory/Dean

an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it: both Max/Lorelai and Christopher/Lorelai even though I can also give you the itemized list of why they’re objectively horrible

a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened: Marty/Rory, I know it didn’t actually happen but I would like to remove that entire arc anyway thank you it’s so annoying

my favourite storyline/moment: the Luke/Lorelai arc from 1x01 to 4x22. makes me ridiculously, endlessly happy

a storyline that never should have been written: basically Rory’s entire story in AYITL. I don’t agree with any of it? though the Life or Death Brigade reunion scene was astoundingly gorgeous in a movie musical way

my first thoughts on the show: wait how does everything about this season 4 finale make perfect sense to me when i’ve never seen this show before? i love this weird town and these fast talking women and THEY’RE KISSING OMG

my thoughts now: if you don’t know this is one of my top two shows for life then you’ve never spoken to me before or glanced at my url and if you give me too much of an opening i will spend the next week telling you why

I was tagged by a couple people in this. It’s been sitting in my box for a couple weeks as well. I just finished up my studio session so I figure I’ll answer this before logging out.

1. what season did you start watching supernatural? - During season 10, but I started from season 1 on Netflix

2. who was the first character you fell in love with? - Sam

3. who was a character that you hated at first but grew to love? - Meg...I hated the first Meg (no offence to Nikki Aycox, i love her), I fell in love with Meg after Rachel Miner began playing her and where her storyline took her.

4. which character would you most want to be in a long-term relationship with? I love Cas but I would have to say Sam for long term relationship material.

5. if you could go on just one date with one character, which one would you choose? Crowley, I mean come on, the conversation alone would be amazing

6. what would you do on the date? - Dinner, drink and annoy people who annoy us

7. which character would you most want to be like? - Donna, she’s just so bubbly but can kick ass

8. which character would you most like to see brought back from the dead? -Okay....this is tough. I refuse to believe that Cas is dead, I would say Meg but Rachel is happy with her ending. Crowley BUT Mark wanted to leave, so......currently....Eileen. Definitely Eileen

19. who’s your favorite evil character? - Dick Roman and Ketch are tied. They were both so sassy and delicious, (I don’t consider Crowley and Meg evil so they don’t count lol)

20. do you have any supernatural ships? - This is almost a carbon copy of whoever I pasted this off of. Canon: Dean/Lisa, Sam/Eileen (yes i think it was canon), Garth/Bess, Charlie/Dorothy, Jesse/Cesar, Cas/Meg, Bobby/Ellen. Non-canon: Destiel, Megstiel, Dean/Cas/Jimmy, Sabriel....honestly I’m not snooty about ships, if I don’t like it i ignore it.

21. who’s your favorite supporting actor? - Currently David Haydn-Jones

22. what’s your favorite quote from the show? - When Castiel tells Claire: “We’re all just people just trying to do their best in a world where it’s far to easy to do your worst” (or something to that affect)

23. if you could cast one famous actor in an episode of spn, who would you chose? Nathan Fillion, just to see who or what he would play

24. if you could write your own episode, what kind of creature would you like to see included? I honestly have no clue

25. who’s your favorite girl that dean’s hooked up with? - Lisa, I think she was laid back enough to accept Dean’s life and they fit well together.

26. who’s your favorite girl that sam’s hooked up with? - Eileen, assuming they hooked up. Besides Sarah she’s been the only woman I haven’t hated that crossed Sam’s path. We didn’t see much of Jess to be honest.

27. what are some of your favorite convention moments? - “I love anytime they talk about the technical aspects of the show, the writing, the crew, what it takes to bring the whole thing together. Jensen especially gets really into that, and I could listen for hours. It’s fascinating in a nerdy sort of way.”--Again copied from whoever tagged me in this, but i feel the EXACT same way.

When they talk about their families, I love seeing the actors light up when they talk about their family.

28. if you were going to guest star (or be a recurring guest star) on spn, how would you want your character described? - The kickass little sister they never wanted....but they tend to die, still.....it would be a good role.

As much as I’d love to be the one to give Cas heart eyes, or Crowley’s apprentice, I couldn’t pull those roles off.

29. what do you hope to see in the next season? - I’m in it until the end, no matter what characters they kill off.....I just want to see where they’re taking the Nephilim story....

The Perfect Affair (TH)

Chapter 2

Y/N: Hey, Stanley! Thanks for your help!

Stanley (aka Tom): Np! I’m going to be in the city C/N with my mate. Care to join?

Y/N: Sure what time?

Stanley: How about 7?

Y/N: 7? Isn’t that a time for dates?

Stanley: Maybe… listen I gotta go! I got an… appointment for 3 hours today.

Y/N: 3 hours? Wow good luck!

Stanley: Thanks babe.

I looked up at the text. Did he just call me “babe”? We just met yesterday. Well, kind of met. Well, it’s probably an auto-correct error and he’s probably just kicking himself right now.

~~~5 hours later~~~

“Hey R/M? What do I wear?”

“Is it a date?”

“I don’t know. He told me to meet at 7.”

“It’s definitely a date then.”

“How so?”

“Everyone knows that 7 o'clock is basically a date.”

“What do I wear? It could just be a friend hang out, you know?”

“Just dress up semi-formal since you’re not sure if it’s a date.” she winked.

“Okay– like this?”

I pulled out a pair of dark skinny jeans and a cranberry top. I added some brown booties a gold necklace. Classic fall look. It’s already November!

“Why do you seem so nervous Y/N?”

I gulped. I couldn’t tell her why exactly.

“Maybe because it’s my first date?”

R/M blanky stared at me and then suddenly gaped her mouth open.

“OMG is this like your first date EVER?!” she emphasized on the word “ever”. I’ve never been on a date before okay? I spent most of high school studying because I wanted to attend D/N, which I finally am happy to attend currently.

“You’re a total virgin, Y/N!”

“Yup.” I pronounced the “p” with an accent.

“But you had kissed a boy before, right?”

Shoot.

“…Right.” I answered quickly.

“Holy shit! You are a virgin!” she blinked.

“You already said that.”

“I meant was a dating virgin! You literally are a virgin!” she laughed.

Umm, what other definition of virgin is there?

“Do you need me to teach you to kiss?”

“What? No!”

“Don’t worry! I’m bi so I’m comfortable with it.”

“No, no it’s not that. You’re my R/M and that’s kind of weird.”

“Suit yourself.” I chuckled internally. R/M is really quirky and funny and I know she has good intentions. If B/M, my high school best friend, was here I’d probably be more comfortable talking to her.

I drove to the little restaurant Stanley had texted me. Nice, it’s a little Hibachi Japanese restaurant. I didn’t know Stanley liked Japanese food.

“Hey Y/N!”

I turned around to see the most beautiful creature that my eyes ever beheld. His chocolatey eyes glistened in the moonlight and the little curl in his bounced around. He was really cute and hot at the same time (which I don’t understand how that is possible).

“Stanley.” I greeted back.

“You look sexy.”

“This? This is my casual clothes.” I nervously responded. He thought I was sexy? He should look in the mirror more often! I mean, HOT DAMN.

“Still. Sexy,” he whispered into my ear.

“Excuse me, sir? I have a reservation under the name Frost.” (Nikki Holland’s maiden name is Frost.)

“Wait like Robert Frost the poet? Are you related?” I gleefully asked. I loved Robert Frost’s poems because they’re so well written and resonated with me.

“Umm my grandpa’s name is Robert Frost but not the Frost you’re thinking about.” he smiled.

He looked at me in the eye as we talked. I felt as if he were my long lost boyfriend or a close friend from my childhood. Although I’ve known him for a few days, it felt like years. As we conversed, I realized his little sweet smile he always put on whenever we talked about his family. I could tell that he loves his brothers and his dog, Tessa, so much. His eyes always light up whenever we talked about Marvel and how his favorite superhero was Spider-Man. Stanley was full of life, love, and hope. The date was only 2 hours in and I could feel my affection for him.

Just from the corner of my eye I think I saw a blonde boy with blue eyes walking over to our table. He looks so familiar…

“Hey mate! To-” the blonde boy stated.

“I’m Stanley! You’re Sam and she’s Y/N.” Stanley jumped up. I gestured my hello

“Hi Sam.” I nodded.

“Right… Sam.” Sam glanced at Stanley.

“I was just telling Y/N here about you.”

“Really? Like my name?”

“What? No.” Stanley shrugged off.

I sensed that something was off. It could be just nothing. Probably happens all the time right? I mean, this is my first date ever. Sam and Stanley glanced at each other throughout our whole date as I chowed down on my rice.

As we finished our meals, Stanley, Sam, and I walked to my dorm.

“Thank you so much for the date. Was it a date?”

“If you want it to be.”

“Okay. It’s a date.”

Stanley reached for my waist and I subconsciously placed my hand on his hard pectoral muscles. His lips met mine and I realized that I was kissing a beautiful man. What on earth! He slid his tongue into my mouth, caressing me. I first thought he was advancing too soon, but he was soft and tender almost in a very caring and longing way. I thought French kissing would feel like slugs hugging together, but this felt like heaven. I felt his heart beat faster as we deepened the kiss. Oh shit. I’m definitely falling head over heels for this man.

Luckily he broke off from the kiss and placed his forehead on mine. We both were trying to catch our breath.

“I love you babe.”

That “babe” from the text was intentional. Is it too early to say that I loved him back? I do feel a connection but it’s too early. My geeky side of me responded with a quote from Star Wars.

“I know.”

Love Nikki - Dress UP Queen - Anime Mobile Dressup Game Review

Nikki is back in an all new game, and this time, it even has English voice acting. As you may recall, I reviewed Hello Nikki Let’s Beauty Up awhile back on my blog. Sadly, that game closed its doors a few months ago. As I mentioned in that original review, there were a ton of other Nikki dressup games available in the app store, but none of them had the gacha, rpg, and quest mechanics that I enjoyed so much in Hello Nikki – Let’s Beauty Up.

So I was left Nikkiless for a long time; until one day, I saw a Facebook ad for a new Nikki Game, Love Nikki Dress UP Queen. Love Nikki Dress Up Queen is extremely similar to the old Hello Nikki – Let’s Beauty Up. It’s also extremely similar to Romantic Diary, much more similar to Romantic Diary when compared to the similarities between Romantic Diary and the old Hello Nikki – Let’s Beauty Up, which were admittedly, already pretty similar.

Overall Score: 66/80 83% B “Very Good Game for Girls”

Geeky: 1/5 – The only real reason to play this game is because it’s so mind numbingly cute. Cute as it may be, it is full of bugs – It actually does not run well on my Iphone 6S with IOS operating system 10.3.2 – I can’t see the menus in the dressup, and can’t view tips. I can only access clothes by searching for them by name. Because of this, I play, whenever I can on my PC with a bluestacks emulator to play the android version. I could not get past the tutorial on my Iphone because I couldn’t click where it wanted me to click. And there are still times when I will click and it will be nonresponsive.

If they fix that IOS issue (and yes, I’ve already tried the built in fix utilities), then I’d probably be inclined to give the Geek score a 3/5 because it does feature online play, ranked leader boards, events and quest mechanics, and other interesting features to make it much more than “just” a dressup game.

Edit: Geeky 3/5 – They have fixed the above mentioned bugs (awhile ago, I just forgot to update this). As mentioned the game is more than “just” a dressup game, it features tons of events and online play with other players, as well as limited edition items, a story, quests, and crafting and other features.

Sweetie: 5/5 – So many cute outfits, events, and the characters are all cute. Just packed to the brim with cuteness.

Overview: 10/10 – Love Nikki Dress UP Queen takes a lot of what made Hello Nikki Let’s Beauty Up so much fun and throws in a few new surprises as well. If you login each day you get all kinds of rewards, basic login rewards, as well as ongoing event rewards, and other goodies. If you compete in the Stylist Arena you can get ranked against others and earn more rewards. The Arena is broken into seasons and the scores reset with new seasons which help new players catch up. You can enjoy the story mode by challenging various NPCs, or you can dress up freely – the choice is yours. With so many ways to play, Love Nikki Dress UP Queen is sure to keep you coming back.

Gameplay: 7/10 — This would be close to a perfect 10 if they could fix the game breaking bugs that exist on the IOS version right now. If you’re playing the android version, then you don’t need to worry about the negatives I’ve mentioned earlier in this review. I just can’t give “gameplay” a high score in good faith, when the game is so buggy (almost unplayable) for IOS users right now. Your Mileage May Vary depending on your device and what version of IOS you’re running. You can also switch freely between both the Android and IOS versions by linking your facebook account and have access to your same account and items in both versions of the game.

Edit: 10/10 The Above Bugs Have Been Fixed.

The actual gameplay itself is super solid. As mentioned under overview, there’s several different gameplay modes to choose from, and you can also craft, decompose, dye, and modify your clothes.

Like Hello Nikki Let’s Beauty Up, the main objective of the game is to collect different articles of clothing, and layer and combine them to create new outfits.

In the Story Mode, you will explore various maps; each point on the map presenting a brief story and new dressup challenge. You will be shown tips as to what styles or feelings your outfits should evoke, then you will face off with the NPC where your outfits will be scored on various standards such as warmth, liveliness, purity, maturity, sexiness, casualness, etc. depending on what the challenge calls for.

You’re also able to learn new skills as you level up which boost your score, or negatively impact your opponent’s scores when used in battle.

You will receive a letter grade and corresponding reward F through S rank for each challenge. Some maps may require you have a high amount of high ranked challenges to progress to the next map. Other maps may let you by with a C or higher.

In the Stylist Arena, you are paired with other real people playing from all around the world. Unlike Romantic Diary, there is no limit to how many pieces of clothing you can carry into the challenge. You (and your opponent) will have access to all of your items in every arena battle. You can rise to the top of the leader boards each Arena “Season” to get top rewards.

In Free Dress you can just put together whatever outfits you would like and have fun without worrying about meeting certain challenge requirements.

Be sure you look at the events, quests, and get your sign in bonuses every day. Click everything you can click; there’s so many rewards that it can be easy to miss some awesome freebies here.

Don’t forget to also collect your free gacha items each day. This is your chance for free rare items! Treasured items are good, but Super Treasured items are even better!

You can also earn retired / out of print outfits for linking your Facebook account or referring friends! So many ways to get free stuff – YAY.

Story: 7/10 Love Nikki Dress UP Queen has a new story to explore. Legend tells of a kingdom ruled by fashion battles. These fashion battles even have the ability to determine who will rule each kingdom as its king or queen. In the latest fashion battle, there was a tie, between a Princess, and a common girl. The Princess was very beautiful and refined with dark hair. The common girl had long pink hair, after the last fashion battle, the pink haired girl mysteriously disappeared, and the Princess became the new Queen. She ruled her kingdom harshly and brought about an age ruled by her cold blade. Nikki finds herself somehow in this strange kingdom, with her talking cat, Momo. Nikki shares an uncanny resemblance to the pink haired girl of legend who could challenge the current queen. Nikki will make her way to meet the queen while encountering strange new characters who either want fashion advice, or want to battle (in a fashion battle that is). – The story is there, and this time it’s even fully voiced, but it’s still not terribly interesting or engaging

Characters: 7/10 – all of the characters are voiced, have their own unique sense of style, and all of them are super cute, but it feels like they’re just there to keep you moving from point a to b, and of little story significance.

Graphics: 10/10 – Pastel pink is everywhere. Everything about this game is girly, feminine, charming, cute, and kawaii AF. The ability to layer items, from dozens of different “item slots” makes the dressup possibilities almost endless. The amount of different items also is mind boggling.

Music:5/10 – Meh, just average. It’s there, it exists, I just don’t pay much attention to it. It doesn’t get on my nerves, unlike many mobile games that I have to play on mute, but it’s nothing too impressive or memorable either.

Voice Acting: 8/10 – I’m torn on this — It’s the first Nikki game to have voice acting in English — or “first English Nikki Game to Have Voice Acting” period – by that, I mean that Hello Nikki Let’s Beauty Up removed ALL the voice acting from the original game before bringing it to North America – not only did it not have English Voice Acting, but it also removed the original Japanese Voice Acting as well! I was really disappointed by this.

So I’m really really happy that the new Nikki game is fully voiced – I would have liked for it to have included an option to keep the Japanese voice acting — Or if I could only choose one or the other, I would’ve preferred the Japanese voices. But I know there are royalties and licensing fees associated with doing so…

The English voice acting is actually… for the most part… not bad…. I’ve met a few questionable characters but on the whole, overall, most of the characters’ voices seem to fit well and deliver a decent performance that is not cringe worthy or over dramatic. I actually kind of really like some of the characters’ voices in fact. So yeah, we have voice acting, and it doesn’t totally suck, so yay lol.

Overall Score: 66/80 83% B “Very Good Game for Girls”

NOTE: if playing the Android version or if they ever fix the bugs in the IOS version, the score would be closer to: 66/80 or 83% “Very Good Game for Girls”

Keep your Enemies Closer (Chapter 1)

P.o.v Amy

I was running down the hall of the school 5 minutes late for class on the first day of the semester. I was panicking because I hear the teacher I have for home room is a total bitch. I ran into class and just like I predicted he started yelling at me. I stood there awkwardly while she yelled at me and I could hear quiet laughter. I looked over to see who it was. It was my crush, Rydel Mary Lynch. I know you are probably thinking something along the lines of "oh my god! She's gay?" If are thinking that then yes you are right. I am in love with Rydel Mary Lynch. I don't exactly understand why though because we are complete opposites, she's the most popular girl in school,and I'm that geeky nerd that nobody talks to. Anyways I looked over and Rydel was laughing at me. After I was done being yelled at I went and sat in the only empty seat in the room.

P.o.v Rydel

I was sitting in class talking to my friends when all of a sudden this girl came bursting through the door and the teacher started yelling at her. I couldn't stop myself from giggling because I always find it kind of funny when the teacher yells at someone considering it's like never me being yelled at. Eventually the teacher stopped yelling at her and she sat down in the only empty seat in the room. After she sat down the teacher started going on about this week long assignment that will be done in partners. After the teacher explained what we will be doing the project on he told us who our partners will be "Morgan and Brandon, colt and Stevie, Nikki and maya, Amy and Rydel." That is when I just stopped listening because I was too mad at the teacher right now. After the teacher told us who our partners were we had to begin brainstorming ideas for the project.

P.o.v Amy

I wasn't exactly thrilled with the pair choices but then again I was kind of happy about it. I know it seems confusing but I mean I love her because she is gorgeous and perfect for the most part. But I also don't exactly want to do this project with her because I know she is going to be rude to me the whole time and barely let me do any of it. We then found each other and began to brainstorm ideas for this project. At first I was listening to what she was saying but then I kinda zoned out because of how mesmerized by her I was. Thank god I wasn't zoned out for that long because that could have ended completely awkwardly if she had noticed that I was staring at her. Anyways the kind of project that this is, is a theatre type project so you would choose whether you were going to dance or act and I would imagine that we would be dancing because I have heard from people that Rydel is a really good dancer. Anyways we picked a song and She began to show me some moves that she had learned at the Rage while she was there. I was getting better and better at the moves as I went, well I would assume anyways because Rydel wasn't getting mad and yelling at me nearly as much anymore. Thank god. After home room I went to my locker to meet up with my only friend, Rose Sebastian. I got to my locker and rose was there already. I walked up and before she even got the chance to say anything I said "well Rydel and I are partners for a week long drama project" I said with slightly mixed emotions. "Is that good or bad?" She asked, considering she is the only person that knows I'm bisexual other than my mother. "Well it's kinda both" I began. "How is it both?" She asked now confused. "Well it's bad because I'm pretty sure she hates me and it's good because even though she probably hates me I love her."

P.o.v Rose

I met Amy at her locker after home room. Before I even got the chance to talk she said "well Rydel and I are partners for a week long drama project" I looked at her kind of confused. "Is that good or bad?" I asked confused. "Well it's kind of both" she said which made me even more confused. "How is it both?" I asked really really confused at this point. Well it's bad because I'm pretty sure she hates me and it's good because even though she probably hates me I love her." I thought it was both cute and odd. I thought it was cute because you have to admit it's always cute when your best friend is in love, and I find it odd because I don't understand how Amy loves Rydel when Rydel hates her. After we talked about that for ten minutes the warning bell went and I headed off to my second period class which was tech. I got to tech right before the bell went off and I sat down in my seat. The class was going by really really slowly because I had no friends in this class with me which is really disappointing. To top it off my crush Joseph isn't in any of my classes this semester. I met him last semester in music class. He is just the sweetest guy ever and to top it off he is pretty attractive, but best of all he's British. After tech I met Amy in the foyer for lunch and Joseph even came to talk to us which made me really happy. After lunch my last two classes flew by for some odd reason.

P.o.v Amy

I was on my way to foods class when all of a sudden Rydel stopped me. "You should probably come over to my house after school so we can practice the dance routine for Friday." When she said Friday I was instantly reminded that it was only Monday. After she walked away I noticed she was also headed to the foods room 'great! Just great!' I said to myself sarcastically while walking into foods. surprisingly foods went by really fast. It was odd though because Rydel wasn't mean to me at all. After foods I headed to the parking lot of the school and found Her. Before I walked up to Rydel I pulled out my phone and texted Rose telling her I was going to Rydel's and to wish me good luck. With that I got into Rydel's car and we were on our way.

There are so many tidbits of every decade that are of cultural significance and impact us personally. And when you’re a nostalgic geek, you tend to focus in on the things not many others would.

This is one of those times, and this is one of those tributes.

1992:

I have this crazy memory for things that happened many years ago. It is often described as a “gift,” but I believe it can also be a curse. For the sake of writing pieces like this, it actually tends to be more of a gift.

In the spring of 1992, during Easter break from school, my parents took my brother and myself to the movies. They told us we were seeing a movie called Wayne’s World. I’m not sure who picked the movie, but I’m pretty sure we saw the trailer, and my parents thought it would be a great movie to take their nine-year-old kids to see.

I’m not sure if they realized they would be hearing their kids saying “ribbed for her pleasure…ewww!” constantly.

Anyway, my parents took us to see this movie. We all laughed, and we all enjoyed it. What I would never have realized in 1992 was that this would become one of my absolute favorite movies. I also didn’t know that the movie was based on a sketch on the show Saturday Night Live, which I was too young to watch in 1992. I may not have even been aware of that show yet. I also didn’t know these guys didn’t look like this, that wasn’t their real hair, and quite a few of the jokes were things I would only come to know as I got older. So was it an appropriate movie for a nine-year-old? Nope! Did we love it? OMG yes!

To say there is any one scene in this movie that sticks out as “my favorite” would be a total lie. There isn’t any moment in this movie found particularly weak. It’s a comedy, and yes it is silly, but the movie is so much fun, I’d be hard-pressed to find a scene I didn’t find funny.

But if I have to choose four (yes, four) scenes I loved the most (fine, I think I can do it!), they would have to be:

Bohemian Rhapsody

Who hasn’t imitated the head-banging portion of the song, sung along with Freddy Mercury, and wanted to ride in the Mirthmobile (or wondered what a “Mirthmobile” was?)? And since you raised your hand, then congratulations, you are a geek.

It’s ok, I did this in the movie theater last night. I’m not ashamed at all. :-)

The Twlight Zone Episode That Doesn’t Exist…

The night before the Stargate Convention started in 2015, my friends (a large group) and I went to a restaurant called the Sugar Factory, and two members of the group ordered these really large drinks that contained dry ice and involved a dramatic moment of pouring the drink at the table. The result was all this lovely smoke coming from the drinks, clapping, and memories of that ginormous drink Garth drinks in the Hawaiian restaurant. My friend Nikki and I called it immediately.

Of course, that moment with the drink was a mere footnote of the actual scene, which involves Garth breaking the fourth wall to tell us this little observational tidbit:

I remember finding out years later that this is merely creative writing, and not an actual Twilight Zone episode. Thankfully, I found this out years before I was invited to do the Halloween podcast about the show. Because it would have been so interesting had I sought this episode out.

Well, it would have been embarrassing. Or interestingly embarrassing?

The Scene Where I Fell In Love With Garth…

I don’t really have to explain it, but it certainly meant I was geeky long before I knew what that was, before it was cool (to quote my friend Marc’s book title), or would have ever believed it.

“I’d like to get by now…”

I was nine, guys. That would have been wrong!

“If she were President, she’d be Baberaham Lincoln!”

Wayne, Garth, Mirthmobile, a starry sky, the Star Trek theme whistled (seriously, geeky vibes anyone?), the epic laugh, and that exact moment you wanted to park outside an airport.

True fact (that you probably already know): The scene was shot late at night, and our duo were so tired, they could barely talk. The random discussion was actually improvised between the two actors. Likewise, the laugh was 100% not scripted. Dana Carvey and Mike Myers were joking around and an off-camera joke Carvey made caused Myers to laugh (you can hear Dana Carvey laughing off-camera). The reaction to the Bugs Bunny question (which is unrelated to the joke being told off-camera) looks so genuine that the laugh made it into the movie. And that plane…was a two-foot model.

Admit it, you laughed super hard over the question the first time you heard it!

I could go on and on, but in the interest of actually keeping this (and you!) interested, I’ll stop at four.

(The original challenge was three.)

Over Your Head…

When I was nine years old, I didn’t know what a condom was. Call me crazy, call me oblivious, but it is an absolute true story. So when I first saw the scene in Benjamin’s apartment and Garth rooted through his drawers, revealing a box of “ribbed for her pleasure,” I actually laughed at the fact that Garth said “ewwww,” and not because he found a box of condoms stashed in a drawer.

Two years later, I found out what he was referring to, and well, I still laugh at the joke to this day. I can largely attribute the giggles to me initially not knowing the bigger joke, but it is still worthy of a laugh.

“We’ll Hang Out With Ya…With Alice Cooper…”

I worked at my last job until February 2010 (I was laid off beginning in October 2009), and one of my final (and most enduring) memories of my time there was the time in late September 2009 that Alice Cooper and his band golfed with several casino high rollers. Each group consisted of three golfers and a band member serving as the fourth member, with Cooper himself rotating in as a fifth player for each group. That alone is awesome, but coming on to my afternoon shift and seeing his band coming in after finishing their rounds was nothing short of surreal.

Truth be told, I had never heard of Alice Cooper before seeing this movie (lest I remind you of my age again!), but came to know not only his music over the years, but also his love for black eye makeup. I also found out during my time at the golf course that Alice was actually a passionate golfer.

So he’s not just good at historical facts about Milwaukee…

Still Worthy After All These Years…

Years pass, movies get older, they get upconverts in physical formats (videocassettes and laserdiscs become DVDs, Blu-Rays, and digital downloads/media). Kids who saw the movie for the first time as kids eventually grow up, have kids of their own, and you almost hope they will eventually introduce their kids to movies they loved. You also hope those kids may laugh a little, or in the very least, appreciate what mom or dad introduced them to.

Wayne’s World, in my eyes, is a product of its time. It is a product of 1990s culture – clothing styles, music, slang, but also a relic of the television show it was lifted from. It doesn’t matter that the film started its life as the last sketch on Saturday Night Live way back in 1989, that it had to work its way up in both writing, style, and tinkering. What matters is that it gained ground, moved up to the first half of the show (and by 1991-1992, it was the show’s cold opening), and had enough substance to become a full-length movie.

I could never not have enough to say about this movie – it still makes me laugh, I still love the sketches, and I even like the sequel. It’s not great, but it isn’t terrible or unwatchable. And I’ll always have my nine-year-old love of Garth.

It’s a geek thing, trust me.

So I've been seeing a lot of ads for "Shining Nikki" on here and, as the person who got me into Love Nikki, I was wondering what your thoughts on it are? I haven't played LN since... last year, I think? So I wasn't sure if they were replacing LN, or what, and if it's worth looking into.

So, I have to preface this by saying that I have played this but only in Chinese. As in, when the game first came out over a year ago, I found the Chinese app and installed it and played it not knowing what anything said and having to rely on fellow fans to translate for me. So that's obviously going to inform my perception of the game.

Shining Nikki is a sequel/prequel/au of Love Nikki. (It's a sequel to LN but it's set before LN but what happens in SN might not lead to LN and it's like, guys, let's just say it's an AU and move on with our lives, please?) Love Nikki is still going strong (aka making them lots of money) and I hope it does for a while because who would I even be without my pixel fashion game to coo over.

Anyway, on to the actual question: No, in my opinion it's not worth looking into.

There are a lot of small things that didn't draw me in but the reason I quit was not the inability to read the text nor even that I hated the fashion (though I personally find it pretty meh). It was how unfriendly it was to free players. It felt like pulling teeth to get anything in the game. About a month in, it started to feel like a chore and not a game and, even then, I still couldn't get anything good, so I noped out. Now, there is the caveat that this could very well have changed in the year plus since I've last played as they figured out what worked or not. But what was there when I left didn't interest me near enough to try again.

THAT BEING SAID because I'm a basic bitch who falls for mobile game ads, if you're looking for a good story with a side of 3D fashion, I'd recommend Time Princess. I've been playing it for a little over a month and have been really enjoying it. However, this is already really long so I won't go into detail but if you want to know why I like it and the basic premise, let me know!
